Well, you've read the notes, the notes were heading toward a New Year, and now it is time for you to post until the New Year cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FRANCHISE!
-
Hello.
-
Hi, Jane.
-
Today, I have no plans...not even laundry. Well, I do want to watch Grey's Anatomy. The new season has started up and I've only watched the first two-hour episode. I think I have four more episodes recorded. I definitely won't watch all four episodes, but hopefully, I'll watch at least one. I also have two books that I'm reading, so I really should read more of those.

Have a good day, all!

Good morning, all!

All was good until 4:00 when the cats - all three - went batshit crazy. Annabelle came down from her aerie in the bookcase and insisted on sleeping next to out on top of the comforter, while Stella pinned me down by lying on the other side. Thatch decided it was time to rais ther treat box for some food, so I lay pinned to ,my bed and listening to Thatch dragged packages of kitty treats from the treat box in search of his wild salmon bits. Then Stella, who makes this restless sleeper look like a corpse, reacted to every noise in the apartment by jumping up and dashing off to investigate the source before jumping back onto m,y bed and lying down until the next sound prompted another investigation. Then Thatch went to the window and talked to God knows who in his little plaintive voice, so Annabelle had to check that out.
It was hell.

After the usual cleanup, I have packages to bring up from yesterday. I have some Oh, Boy! work to do today, and that's my day.
-
BK, my memory of the original vinyl release of that 1958 Lenya THREEPENNY is that it sounded much better than the CD release. I also remember how wonderful that original booklet was with all the photos from the 1954 Theatre de Lys production. I was given that recording along with the 1954 Off-Broadway recording, for Christmas 1963, and that the vibrancy and sound of the 1954 recording put the Columbia to shame.
-
Sunday morning greetings! We watched TCM’s double feature last night - “Casablanca” and “The Way We Were.”
-
And this morning we’re both wide awake to watch the sun come up. Maybe I’ll make it to Zoom church with Richard.
-
T.O.D.
Peace and quiet.
-
I started writing a new play yesterday.
This will be a "royal" one.

And you love them more than anything.

The family might come over this afternoon. I'm feeling way better. We will all stay outside.
-
Good morning, everyone.
-
I have nothing interesting to report.
-
I know, that usually doesn't stop me.
-
Just finished submitting my 15th take of a virtual choir submission. Tech issues.
-
Good morning!

Postal updates: My sister still hasn't received the package I sent her on December 15th. I did receive a package mailed from NY state on the 16th. I also received a card from the same area that was postmarked December 10th. Most surprising of all, a card mailed from NYC on December 24th arrived yesterday!
-
I can't remember if "Mank" was discussed. Thoughts? I was bored out of my mind.
-
I saw part of it DR KEVIN H.....it seemed very WOKE to me.....
-
I received an envelope in the mail TODAY!
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
A late arrival here because I subbed another church service this morning.
-
Other than that, I have nothing to report either.
-

Now I have to get out my Threepenny records.
My first copy of the Theatre de Lys cast recording was the horrid "Rechanneled Stereo" one, but I played it to death through my high school years after being blown away by the piece when a local theater group did it. It was done with just piano, and on my second visit the pianist let me sit next to him to observe. It was one of those life changing moments. A few years later I discovered the Columbia recording and played that one to death.
I don't remember anything in particular about the sound of the Columbia, so this must be revisited soon.
-
That Anna Moffo / Leinsdorf was my first recording of La Boheme. I later listened to the Toscanini one for quite a while, and I don't remember what followed that one.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
Columbia's releases of many of their cast albums on CD had lousy sound. That Threepenny was only one. I hate the sound of On the 20th Century, which had one of the most glorious vinyl sounds I've ever heard from a record. I lay the blame at the doorstep of Didier Deutsch.
-
Horrible night of allergies. No quality sleep.
-
When we came home from church this morning, I noticed that Mom's mail arrived. It would have been delivered sometime after 7 p.m.
-
I got my Aetna breakdown of what they will cover from my ER visit after the two kidney stones. I think I'll have a bill of about $140 waiting for me.
-
Could have been worse.
-
My sister, brother-in-law, nephew and his girlfriend are coming in today. We're meeting someplace outdoors.
-
I haven't paid attention to the Met's daily streams these past couple of weeks, and this conversation reminded me to take a look. We missed the wonderful 1982 Teresa Stratas (etc.) Boheme on Christmas Eve.
On Monday there's another one -- from March 1977, with Scotto and Pavarotti, and I'm almost positive it's the one that launched the entire series of their PBS telecasts. Levine conducted at the last minute when someone cancelled. I watched it at a friend's apartment just north of Sunset a couple of blocks from the Famous Amos cookie jernt. (The things you remember...)
-
Kathleen Battle alert! :) -- a 1991 L’Elisir d’Amore on Sunday the 3rd.

The family might come over this afternoon. I'm feeling way better. We will all stay outside.
Have a nice visit.

I saw part of it DR KEVIN H.....it seemed very WOKE to me.....
Really. I didn't think that.
-
I can't remember if "Mank" was discussed. Thoughts? I was bored out of my mind.
It kept my attention.

Poor overworked postal carriers. Our regular guy seems happy with his job.

Not bad at all.

Enjoy your outdoor visit.

PBS is showing a 60s folk song program including video clips from the time with various groups and singers still alive and performing today. It's got me in a real nostalgic mood, thinking about those times, school, friends and lovers. I am truly grateful that in the past thirty years I have had the chance to tell Judy Collins and the Chad Mitchell Trio how important they were to my political education and how much I owe them.
Roger McGuinn, who was the main person in The Byrds, began as a guitarist for The Chad Mitchell Trio. He just sang Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages," a wonderful song I had completely forgotten.
-
I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of sleep.
-
In the Didier days, you had not only him but the awful Sony mastering engineers. If you listen to any of the remastering jobs done in the last ten years, they're amazing - it's some guy in Europe doing them and always going from the first-generation tapes, which Didier didn't - he usually went from the album masters, but that wasn't even the problem - no ears is the problem and bad mastering engineer on top of it. One hopes they'll get around to these at some point.

We just watched and enjoyed The Bishop's Wife, which curiously neither of us had ever seen.
-
Earlier, we roasted root vegetables and made more soup.
-
Outside, snow is lightly falling, and we are happy to be comfy and cozy indoors.
-
Tonight, we shall polish off the remains of a Harvey Wallbanger cake.
-
Tomorrow, it's back to work.
-
Tonight, we shall polish off the remains of a Harvey Wallbanger cake.
I used to make that! Wonder if I still have the recipe...
And the Harvey Wallbanger made an appearance in the “Call the Midwife” Christmas special on PBS.
-
At 7pm I’m seeing the Irish Rep “Meet Me in St. Louis.” Anyone want to join me?
-
Dead battery again. I suspected it might happen because when I locked it last night it didn't beep, then I unlocked and locked again and it did, but something is clearly running in the electrical chain and I think this all has to do with the break in - I read up on that last night and it said when they do whatever it is they do it can drain the battery. So, guess I'll go to the nearby mechanic and have him take a gander.
-
AAA on their way and once it's jumped I'll go pick up some mail, I guess.
-

That was surprising and fun.

Apparently this is dead battery day - AAA very busy and won't be here for another fifteen minutes. Once it's jump started I have to let it run fifteen minutes before driving it, so I won't get out of here until three-thirty, which means I won't have food ordered until four, which means I won't eat until five. Quite irritating on every level.
-
I am not a vodka drinker.
-
Bruce did you report the break in? If so, and that caused this problem, maybe your insurance would cover the repairs.
-
The extended weather forecast is rather snowy & icy for Iowa and points East.....through Friday.....

I ordered a package of German dumplings for my mom back in October, and they STILL haven't arrived! :o

That's all? That's great!

We have to assume that the thieves aren't just targeting your car, but others, too. If they're the cause of the dead battery, then it's no wonder lots of other people are having the problem.

I think you need a refund or a new order.

Glad to hear that DR Laura's feeling better.

That opera is pure joy.

Definitely a refund

Did not report the break-in.
-
After the battery was charged, I picked up some packages (apparently the USPS delivered a bunch of very late Amazon packages because I got four that were due some time ago), came home, let the car run for another thirty minutes, then shut it off and locked it (beep heard so hopefully nothing is still running to drain the battery). I ordered from Stanley's - Chinese chicken salad - that wasn't the plan but they sent a 30% off coupon.
-
And since then, I've been listening to a marvelous Weinberger opera - the polar opposite of Schwanda, although the opening chorus piece is very much in the operetta style - but then it gets much more serious and it's really filled with gorgeous music, I must say - it's called Wallenstein. After that it will be Janacek's Kata Kabanova, which I'm looking forward to.
-
Favorite scene?
The boy's choir and the skating scene were definite highlights.
-
Sorry about the car, bk. I went through something similar recently (not from a break-in, though), and finally had to have the entire battery replaced. Your problem sounds like it is more extensive.
-
It's a terrible feeling, not being able to rely on your car.
-
Good evening.
-
I had a dead battery a couple weeks ago, too. It was under warranty, luckily.
-
The family came over this afternoon and we had a lovely time in the carport. Grandson found the child-sized rake I had bought, and that was it. It entertained him all afternoon.
-
I think we got him to open two presents. He was more interested in the rake. And using the rake to dig in the dirt with Grandpa. So we will try again next week, I guess.
We did get some excellent news tonight.
-
Our daughter-in-law took and passed the citizenship test earlier this month. Because of covid, no one was allowed in the building except the applicants, so even my son was not able to watch her take the citizenship oath.

Aww. Did you take photos?

Listening to the Janacek opera Kata Kabanova - it's pretty great.

Welcome to American citizenship, Laura's DIL! Glad to have you.
-
I'm off to bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
It only took 35 years for him to decide to apply
Why now? Are you no longer thinking of retiring in Canada?

Kathleen Battle alert! :) -- a 1991 L’Elisir d’Amore on Sunday the 3rd.
Kathleen Battle! She also sold a complete cutlery line. Her ax was really noteworthy.

What happened to everyone?
-
Is everyone returning home from their holiday visits?
-
Hi Tom.
-
What time is your test tomorrow?
-
Hi Jane.
-
I didn’t see you sneak in the door.
-
I guess it wouldn’t be a door, but an Ethernet cable.
-
I watched the new Disney film this evening. SOUL.
-
It was okay, but I wasn’t crazy about it.
-
I would give it two and one-half stars.
-
Still on page four!
-
What time is your test tomorrow?
10:30 am.
-
One more post.
-
Page five!
-
At long last.
-
Was George getting together with his family again today?
-
Maybe his sister needed some errands run.
-
I guess it wouldn’t be a door, but an Ethernet cable.
;D
-
What time is your test tomorrow?
10:30 am.
Good luck. Do you still feel like you have it?
-
Maybe his sister needed some errands run.
;D 😊
-
What time is your test tomorrow?
10:30 am.
Good luck. Do you still feel like you have it?
No, not at all. But the doctor requires it before my lung tests on Thursday.
-
He said they didn’t want me gunking up their testing equipment.
-
Lung tests? I didn't realize. I thought you were concerned about covid.
MEGA VIBES ON YOUR UPCOMING TESTS!
-
He said they didn’t want me gunking up their testing equipment.
Makes sense.
-
No, he is concerned I have something worse.
-
Makes sense about the covid test. I imagine he is concerned your lung issue is worse. I hope whatever it is, it is easily treated.
-
What happened to everyone?
I watched a Lifetime movie that I recorded last month, One Royal Holiday.
-
It starred a bunch of Broadway actors and actresses: Laura Osnes, Aaron Tveit, Tom McGowan (who was in She Loves Me with Laura Benanti and Zachary Levi), and Larry's most favorite actress (of course, that is ABSOLUTE sarcasm! ;) ), Victoria Clark.
-
It was your typical made-for-TV romantic Lifetime Christmas movie, but it was nice seeing Broadway actors on TV. :)
-
Last night I watched the Royal Ballet’s NUTCRACKER SUITE and tonight I am watching the Royal National Theatre’s OKLAHOMA.
-
Tom, when are the lung tests?
-
This is the synopsis to One Royal Holiday from the IMDb listing (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12773628/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_1): When Anna offers a stranded mother and son shelter in a blizzard, she learns that they are the Royal Family of Galwick. Anna shows the Prince how they do Christmas in her hometown, encouraging him to open his heart and be true to himself.
-
Is everyone returning home from their holiday visits?
I didn't leave my house today. I did, however, at least, take a shower. ;)
-
I saw that Prime Video has the movie version of THE GHOST AND MRS MUIR, but I think you have To sign up for the Hallmark’s new channel to see it.
-
Was George getting together with his family again today?
No, we didn't. I stayed home and watched TV and grazed throughout the day.
-
Maybe his sister needed some errands run.
Even if she needed any, I wouldn't have today.
-
Lung tests? I didn't realize. I thought you were concerned about covid.
MEGA VIBES ON YOUR UPCOMING TESTS!
~~~SUPER DITTO!!~~~
-
Well, I had better get to bed so I will be all ready for my Q-tip brain surgery in the morning.
-
Tom, when are the lung tests?
Thursday.
-
Good night, Tom. And again, Good Luck!!
