Inside Daisy Clover
The Muppet Movie
Nine (I didn't hate it)
Singin' in the Rain

Sunset Blvd.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit

I have absolutely no plans.  I need to do some Oh, Boy! work, but I have no plans beyond that.  I also need to start tallying my 2020 receipts and make an appointment with my accountant for late Feb, or early March.

I would normally be rarin’ to go when it comes to a movie along the lines of MANK, but it sure sounds like a slog.

Cue marks? I hope he didn’t forget to add the digital scratches and splices!!! And shouldn’t it have been tinted sepia so we’d all know it takes place in the first half of the twentieth century?

George, you mentioned Romance/Romance and Nell Carter in your posts last night. Did you know she recorded the title song? They played it when you entered the theater before the show started. It was nice and bubbly and very Nell.

I saw Romance/Romance on May 10, the eve of Irving Berlin’s 100th birthday. I was living in upstate New York at the time and read that people were going to gather outside his home st midnight to serenade him. Anywhere but NYC, that would be considered disturbing the peace.

Anyway, I drove down after work, found a parking space on the street and went to Romance/Romance to kill time. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Then went off to Berlin’s Beekman Place home.

Saturday afternoon greetings!  I spent my morning on Zoom with 20 or so other AAUW members discussing Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng.  It had been almost 3 years since I read the book, so I didn't have much to contribute.  It was fun to listen in, though.

Thanks to everyone who commented on our new great niece.  Let me clarify, she was due yesterday, but (to my knowledge) has not arrived yet.  I was texting yesterday with her paternal grandmother who did not mention a new baby and I'm pretty sure she would have.

Three finnicky cats are driving me mad over their dinner.  All three turned down chicken hearts and liver, which they usually like, so I tossed it all in the trash and gave them tuna and whitefish.  Thatch and Stella ate, but Annabelle is still being a pain in my butt.

I remember thinking the writer had some life to experience. Her younger characters were fully developed, while the two older women were more interesting but heavily cliched. With two really good actresses playing the mothers in the mini-series, I was thinking the balance might have gone in the opposite direction.

Finished watching Mank, and had a small Caesar from Gelson's. I've also written eight new pages, so that's a good start. I'll take a break for an hour, then try to do the next seven. I know what they are so hopefully they'll go smoothly. But I'm so pleased with today's writing I think I'll go get a sweet treat from Gelson's bakery.

The V.I.P.s has had a more interesting pedigree than I realized before starting. Screenplay by Terrence Rattigan and direction by Anthony Asquith, who joined forces on The Browning Version.

this certainly isn't on that level, but it's all fun soap opera. Margaret Rutherford earned her Oscar. She's a delight.

DSR George, I refused to see the film of Nine, but the stage show which I love takes place in Rome, I believe, not Hollywood.

I like, but certainly don't love Nine, but, of course, it takes place in Rome.  Dopey me!  I was just thinking about movies about making movies in general. ::)

George, you mentioned Romance/Romance and Nell Carter in your posts last night. Did you know she recorded the title song? They played it when you entered the theater before the show started. It was nice and bubbly and very Nell.

That's so cool!

I went on YouTube to see if they had Nell Carter singing Romance/Romance. Couldn’t find it, but found this. It’s from before the Twitter ban, but it’s funny.

That's so funny!  One of the videos in the Up Next section on the side of the screen was this one:

Has anyone else done this before? How are you alerted to the imminent arrival?

There are a good number of suggestions on the internet for a first year baby gift.  I am not sure all of them are age appropriate.

Like baby's first copy of the Martin Scorsese collection? Or baby's first guide to gin? Baby's first Porsche? Baby's first million?

I left my mom's house this afternoon so that I could get home in time to see a reading of a play that friends of mine were in.  I won't say the title because it was a private reading to see if the process is viable. ::) It certainly is, so eventually, they'll raise money to try to get the online rights and do it legitimately for the public.

Three finnicky cats are driving me mad over their dinner.  All three turned down chicken hearts and liver, which they usually like, so I tossed it all in the trash and gave them tuna and whitefish.  Thatch and Stella ate, but Annabelle is still being a pain in my butt.

You are too nice to your finicky kitties.  I give them their can food and then leave it. Usually, if they won’t heat it when it is served, they will come back and eat it later.  They always have dry food, so I am not starving them.

If I didn’t know what it is, “pasta papa in the car“ would sound very strange.

Had a very stressful dream last night in which I was making soup as part of a demonstration. I had to follow the recipe exactly but I got to the end of what was there on the page and the liquid had been left out. Cream or stock? You could use either, but I couldn’t, because it wasn’t written down. And I wasn’t allowed to recommend either or leave or finish up.

What did you think of that book? Have you watched the miniseries?

I don't remember much about the book except that I thought it was just ok.
