Well, you've read the notes, you know what you must do, you must do what you must do, and then you must post until the new cows in town come home.

Not a war movies fan either. I did like Mr Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket". I also liked "Glory".(Zwick)

My favourite war movie is "King And Country".

The reason I made war movies the topic is because I'm watching Battle of the Bulge, a movie I've never seen, and I must say, despite its rather bad reputation, I'm really enjoying it.

All I know from war movies is the movie M*A*S*H, from which I don't know very much.

Only six more pages of rhetoric to go. This is shaping up to be a pretty good all-nighter.

Good Morning!

I'm not much a war movie fan either, but the ones that come to mind - which may be the only ones I've ever seen - are:

M*A*S*H*
Saving Private Ryan (as opposed to "Shaving Private Ryan" or "Saving Ryan's Privates" 8)
Apocalypse Now
Empire of the Sun (I think this could qualify as a war movie)

I'm not a big fan of war movies either.  PATHS OF GLORY and IN WHICH WE SERVE ae two I like.  I'm sure there are a few others, but once war moves up into modern times, it becomes to mechanized and mechanical for me. Ah! I also like ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, THE GREAT ESCAPE, and MRS. MINIVER.  My favourite WW II movie is actually about the aftermath...BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES.

The Americanization of Emily
MASH (the film title does not have the *)
Where Eagles Dare
Kelly's Heroes
The Dirty Dozen
Darling Lili (ok that's a stretch)
South Pacific (also a stretch)

Never a fan of the all star war films

and what the heck am I doing up sooooooooooo early??????

What a happy HAPPENSTANCE that we would be discussing war movies today.  I don't like a lot of them, but the ones I enjoy, I like a LOT!

One has already been mentioned:

WHERE EAGLES DARE with Mr Richard Burton & Mr Clint Eastwood, not a logical moment in the movie, but lots of fun.

HELL'S ANGELS - specifically for the dirigible fight.

SAYONARA - sort of a stretch, but a Korean War movie
BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI - with Mr William Holden & Mickey Rooney
STALAG 17 - another Holden drammer

and one I would recommend to those who have not heard of it:

BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL - a Fox DVD, directed by Richard Fleischer, starring Robert Wagner, Buddy Ebsen, Terry Moore, Broderick Crawford, Skip Homeier & Frank Gorshin....terrific film.

Hi all!  I guess I was very tired.  It wasn’t long after I posted that I laid down again and slept the night away!

I feel ever so much better now.  I’m way behind in what I need to do but I feel up to the challenge.

This is my four thirty week at work as well!  Life is good.

Have a wonderful day all!

ICU DR Elmore.  :)   I hope your feeling better as well.  Have a good day.

Good morning, all!  I was awake at 5:30 this morning, and I decided I wouldn't go back to sleep around 6, when I put the coffee on the stove.  I've finished catching up on the posts from last night, read the new notes, and here are my paltry and groggy thoughts.

DRPogue, I believe I was the first poster of "Be afraid . . ." yesterday.  I didn't know that you wrote the line!  I don't believe at this point I could even tell you what it's taken from.  I do, however, think it's great that you've written a line that's become a part of popular culture.

DRozderek, welcome back!

I've heard from DRCillaliz, and she's been busy getting a house ready for sale.  She says she will return when the debris clears.

TOD:
A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE and IRMA LA DOUCE (oh, you said WAR movies! spoo!)
   THE KING OF HEARTS
   SOUTH PACIFIC
   MR ROBERTS
   M*A*S*H
   OH, WHAT A LOVELY WAR!
   FULL METAL JACKET

Good morning all.

Happy return to OzDerek!

I saw A Little of What You Fancy on Friday. It's Anthony's show here in New York before he heads out to the wilds of Virginia.

It was a lovely evening in the theatre. It's a well done pleasant little piece showcasing music which 9 out of 10 people don't know. There are three songs (which are used for audience sing-along) which are well known, but unless you are of a certain age and grew up in England (or you are an afficianado of older music) you probably won't know many of the songs.

The entire cast does a good job in a very small space (the theatre has 50 seats, folding chairs). The costumes are beautiful and the music (arrangements and actual playing of an electronic piano) is well played by a single person, much like our own Jose. Jason Wynn is the music director and musician and does a very good job.

It's A Small World Department: One of the cast members in the show is known to our own BK. Kristopher Monroe, who does the male ingenue tenor songs, was part of BK's reading/singing/signing at Drama Book Shop in March. He sang numbers from the CD of Bus and Truck. What a pleasant surprise.

On that note (C#) I will take my leave for now. I have work waiting for me and since I'm not a fan of war movies (though MASH is quite good) I doubt that I'll post much on that topic.

I will be back later.

Hello, DRBen!

How did Anthony's show go?  I've got to go to a DON GIOVANNI at Manhattan School of Music on Friday night, so I'm going to aim for Anthony's show on Saturday, whether or not DRRodzinski is available!

Well, I see you answered my question while I was asking it.

Good to read the report about Anthony's show Ben.

I used to love a British TV (Yorkshire TV)show called "Old Time Music Hall". The MC was the father (I think) of Manuel from Faulty Towers. There are some wonderful Edwardian songs. Actor Edward Woodward had a delightful album of them "Edwardian Woodward".

Oh  a request to all NYC DR's ...

I received this email today

Quote
We wanted to let all of you know that the Original Cast Recording of "Little Women" is now available for purchase at the theater and online at www.ghostlightrecords.com!  The CD features 20 tracks, and a beautiful 24 page booklet, featuring complete lyrics and full color photos!

We're thrilled with the album, and are proud to have preserved this wonderful musical for generations to come!  The album is also available in stores across the country!  There will be a special CD signing event at the Virginia Theatre in New York City on May 7th, after the matinee performance (4:45pm).  Come by the theatre, pick up a CD and meet the cast!  ALSO... be sure to check out the Little Women blog at http://littlewomen.typepad.com to see cast comments on the CD!

Is there any NYC DR who would be available (and more importantly willing) to go to the signing event?  In the Happentance that you are  (willing and able) I would send you the $$ right away .

The Vixter has a 9 am NYSSMA solo  in Bohemia, a 12 call for the 2 Pm show and a 6 PM call for the 8 PM show so there is no way we can get in there on th 7th.

If no one wishes to brave the hordes of screaming teenage girls and their moms and grandmas
I shall simply get her a CD from the website.

Thanks!!

Vixmom your mailbox is full.

Yes, Anthony's show will still be running on May 14th. The performance will be at 8pm. Since it's a small theatre I suggest calling the theatre and making a reservation. The number is 1-212-288-3246, Ext. 3. The number is a 24-hour answering machine. Leave your name, number of tickets requested, the date and a phone number. If you don't hear back from them your reservation is confirmed. They will only call back if there is a problem.

Sorry, I am unable to help with the CD signing. I would love to help out our budding Musical Theatre star but previous plans prevent me from fullfilling her wish.

Favorite War Films:

ALL QUITE ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930 version)

SUICIDE BATTALION (1958 AIP film starring Touch Conners)

AWAY ALL BOATS (1956) starring George Nader, Lex Barker, Jeff Chandler, William Reynolds, and Keith Andes...in other words, most of Universal's male B-rate movie stars.

And, like JRand54, I like BETWEEN HEAVEN AN HELL...co-starring Mr. Ken Clark!!

THE BEST OF EVERYTHING has some interesting things to recommend it, that's for sure!  As MR BK says,  the locations filming in NYC is very good, and in addition to everything else, the title song sung by MR Johnny Mathis.

DR VIXMOM it sounds like the Vixter's birthday was a whirlwind of fun!  I hope lots of pictures were taken.  And are there any PETER PAN photos online.

And DRBEN thanks for the ANTHONY report.  It sounds like an interesting evening of theatre!  Any photos online?

I really loved John Huston's THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE which I found effective despite MGM's tinkering with it.

I agree that GLORY is very powerful (Matthew Broderick a tad miscast but he tries hard), and I like THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, too, as well as SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

One of the old school war movies I liked was PORK CHOP HILL. I watched it on a TV at the beach one rainy July afternoon and was very impressed with it.

I've never seen BATTLEGROUND but I understand it's wonderful.

Morning all.....

War movies:  I have to say that I am not much of a war movie person, though I will also agree with whoever said (CP?) that THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES is one of the best.  It is.

Speaking of the THE BEST titles, THE BEST OF EVERYTHING is one of my guilty pleasures.  I think the first time I saw it, it was actually on a big screen, coupled with VOTD at the Cinema Village on 12th Street.  It was "3 Career Girls 3" double feature night.  And while Suzy Parker in a back alley has nothing on Patty Duke in a back alley, it still is delightful fun. Great locations, great song, great Joan, great burgundy dress on Miss Parker.

Just had a blustery lunchtime walk over to the box office (several blocks from where I work) to enter negotiations for season tickets to the 2005-06 Broadway Series.  Since they don't sell specific seats, and DH Richard and I are not interested in BAD seats, I only paid the deposit until we are notified of our locations.  3 of the shows (My Fair Lady, Hairspray, Movin' Out) will be in the Schuster Center (new, big) and 4 (Ten Tenors, The Full Monty, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Alone Together) will be in the Victoria Theatre (smaller, refurbished).

Reading through last night's and this morning's posts, I was so glad to hear reports from behind the scenes from DR's Cillaliz and Hisaka.

And welcome back to DR ozderek!

DR JR, no pictures of the show, except on some cast members cameras (not Anthony's). If we get some pictures I will post them. It looks like I will be seeing the show five times. I went opening night, I will go this Saturday May 7th w/Larry (AKA Elmore), I'll go on May 14th with Vixmom and family, I'm going on the 20th with friends from work who have seen Anthony in other shows and want to see him in this and I'm going on May 22 when 12 members of the Morelli clan will take over this small 50 seat theatre to cheer on their cousin. Soon I'll be familiar enough to be an understudy!

When Patton was first released, I went to see it with my grandmother, who had met the man prior to his being sent to Europe during WWII.  She noted that Scott's portrayal was very accurate, although they toned down his language quite a bit.

The upcoming weekend looks to be quite busy.  For example, from Friday through Sunday here in Rehoboth Beach, the Third Annual Rehoboth Beach Cabaret  (http://www.rehomain.com/Cabaret%20Fest.html) Fest will be swinging.

On the other edge of the country, in San Diego, they'll be holding the Gator By the Bay Cajun Zydeco Music and Food Festival (http://www.sandiegofestival.com/).

I got a lovely e-mail from dear reader Hisaka, who says hello to everyone and wants everyone to know she misses them.  Her mother has had some health issues (now feeling better), and she's been working, as well.  She'll be back with us in about a week, and I, for one, say hoo and ray.  Jane, she thanks you for your e-mail.

Thanks for relaying the message.  I was hoping Hisaka was off having fun but I’m pleased to know her mother is improving.

On the 6th and 7th, Huntsville, Alabama is holding the Whistle Stop Festival and Rocket City BBQ Cookoff (http://www.rocketcitybbq.com/).

Same dates, in Dover, Ohio, the Dandelion May Festival  (http://www.breitenbachwine.com/nws_fr.asp?id=55) features a cookoff, wine sampling, and arts and crafts.

And, again same dates, in Hamburg, Arkansas (http://www.arkansas.com/), they're holding the 36th Annual Armadillo Festival.  And in Hundsville, Arkansas, they're holding the 44th Annual Springtime War Eagle Festival.  Not to mention the 9th Annual Whistlestop Festival being held in Ashdown.

Did you like the movie?  We also saw it yesterday and were very disappointed.

The Vixter loved it, but then she had never read the books, seen the TV show or heard the BBC radio show, as Mr. Vixmom & I have.

And they left out my favoritest bit of dialogue from the  book

"It's unpleasantly like being drunk"

"What's unpleasant about being drunk?"

"Ask a glass of water"

I think the dolphin bit went on too long, the John Malcovich character wasn't needed  and therefore that whole sequence could have been cut, the ending was unsatisfatory (and wrong) and I just didn't laugh.  I laughed out loud reading the books.

I was pleased with the casting and the Vogans were well done.  It was nice to see the original  "Arthur Dent" and "Marvin" in cameos.  Beeblebrox's head "creeped me out" as the Vixter would say,  but it was reasonably well done..... I liked Slarty and the planet factory floor

I was hoping they wer lumping some of the books together, I had been looking forward to seeing the Restaurant at the  End of the Universe, it seems they were expecting to do a sequel, but I do not know how well this first one is going to do and so I do not expect to see a sequel....

I seem to have become Ebert & Roebert all of a sudden.....

Anyone who likes "sucking head" should have a good time this weekend.  That's crawfish heads, of course.

The Crawfish Creole Festival (http://www.fiestaoffiveflags.org/crawfish.htm) is being held May 6th-8th in Pensicola, Florida.  Same dates, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival (http://www.bbcrawfest.com/) is being held in that town, in Louisiana.

I don't know if they'll be having any crawfish, but the Savannah Seafood Festival (http://www.savriverstreet.com/schedule.html), in Savannah, Georgia, will also be taking place.

Ah, where else...

In Mansura, Louisiana, they're holding the Cochon de Lait Festival (http://www.cochondelait.com/festival/index.htm) from the 6th thru the 8th.  This features a roast suckling pig festival, a hog calling contest, Men's and Ladie's beer drinking contest, and lots more.

In Richmond, Missouri, same dates for the 25th Mushroom Festival (http://cofcommerce.home.mchsi.com/festival.html), with contests, a crafts fair, etc.

And in Ruskin, Florida, they're holding the Ruskin Tomato and Heritage Festival (http://ruskinfoundation.org/festival.html), on the 7th and 8th.

In Stilton, England, they'll be holding the Stilton Cheese Rolling on the 8th, but their link isn't working so I won't post it.

I can match that story. Discovery Place, our city science museum which contains our city's IMAX theater, refused to book the IMAX feature VOLCANOS for fear of incurring the wrath of the local creationists who have strong feelings about (and against) evolution which is mentioned during the film!

After a scathing editorial in the Charlotte Observer and dozens of letters to the editor rebuking Discovery Place for being a science museum "in name only," the director changed his mind and booked the feature.

You're right; she is a flake, but as she mimicked blowing out a candle in trying to remember if she did or not, somehow I just assumed that meant she had blown it out.

But, that just leaves us with THREE potential perps! I actually kind of figured that Zach did it.

When I was in 7th or 8th grade I had a test on evolution.  My brain went into  "shut down " mode and I could not for the life of me remember anything about which period was what etc.. so I wrote down the beginning of Genesis (which had just been required memorization in confirmation class) and got full credit from a teacher who probably was afraid of a group of holy rollers descending upon him if he marked my answers as incorrect.

(In thinking back on my school career, I realize I was a terrible student! The Vixter must never read these pages!  In my "when I was your age" stories I was a perfect student and model of decorum at all times   ;D)

My church has no problems with the theory of evolution, my Pastor says Science tells us how, the Bible tells us why

No, more obvious.  Dog related.

Our dogs started making a ruckus, barking at something they saw through the front windows.  Der Brucer, looking out, saw another Dalmatian running loose along the street.  No collar, no tags.

So off we ran, after another dog.  Of course.

Der B followed in his car to where he thought the Dal had gone, I followed on foot.  In the process, I spotted the Dal laying next to a truck, which was parked next to a house on our street that is being renovated.  He let me come up, and gave me a sniff, and let me slip a leash around his neck.  Der B came back, amazed that I had caught the Dal so easily.

The Dal got right in the car, no fears.  After driving around the neighborhood, to see if anyone was around and had "lost a Dalmatian," we decided to check with Molly, the local Dalmatian League leader.  Nope, she hadn't seen this new dog, or heard of any other Dals in our neck of the woods.  So, der B and I decided the best idea would be to head back home (with a side-trip to WalMart for a collar for the boy) and, if need be, keep him in the basement while posting signs.

But, driving by the house where I'd caught the Dal, we thought it might be a better idea for me to take another look, to see if there was any signs that someone had left him in the back yard.  Indeed there was, two bowls and a rope, a rope that had clearly been escaped from.

At this moment, the new owner of the house drove up in his truck, very curious as to why I'd been snooping around on his property.  I explained about the Dalmatian, which he recognized as belonging to one of the men working on the property.  So, after a pleasant exchange of information, we agreed to take the Dal with us to our house, much safer than anywhere else.  The Dal's owner should be back within an hour or so, and he has the address where we live.

End of emergency...I think.

But you WERE a perfect student.  You knew exactly how to terrorize the teachers, and got perfect grades as a result!  Right?

My church has no problems with the theory of evolution, my Pastor says Science tells us how, the Bible tells us why

Smart Pastor.  Unfortunately, now that many churches have discovered the power of banding together and bringing "the fear of God" into their battles, that kind of intelligence is in short supply.

The Dalmatian is in our side-yard.  Our dogs are in the house.  Our dogs want to go out and meet the Dalmatian.  The Dalmatian wants to come into our house, to meet our dogs.

That's enough of a dance for anyone.

I'm sticking to just WWI & II movies.

Has the world gone utterly mad?  It's the Scopes Trial all over again in Kansas.  They are actually having hearings against teaching evolution in the public schools there...I have never been to Kansas before.  I now have even more reason never to go there.  What a frightening place that must be!

I got the first season of Penn & Teller's "Bullsh*t" from Netflix and they had a segment on this very topic, but it wasn't in Kansas.  It may have been Florida, but I don't remember.  Anyway, the townsfolk voted on and approved a measure to put stickers in all science books that deal with evolution saying something to the effect that evolution has never been proved and it's only a theory.  The people also talked about "intelligent design" being a "science" and that it needs to be taught as a valid science, also.  Yea, right! :P

Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet.  He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and, with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him a super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

I'm back from our recording session and must get some food into me.  Briefly, Mr. Haines did himself proud, his voice held up remarkably well, as did mine.  We actually got most of the album today - only four more songs tomorrow, plus just a couple of fixes on things we did today.  Favorite track today - I'm Past My Prime with Miss Jessica Rush.  She'd never been in a recording studio, and after one rehearsal and two takes she was done - perfection.

Have eaten and feel great.

Now, if both voice boxes can just hold up until tomorrow afternoon, we'll be in splendidly splendid shape.  All your excellent vibes and xylophones worked wonders, and if we get our dose tomorrow I'm sure all will be well.  The best thing is that we nailed the two hardest songs today - the two really rangy ones.  I was especially happy with the Craig Carnelia song - all we have to do tomorrow is check one section to make sure Mr. Haines sang the proper notes.  The other one, Born Too Late, we basically have the song except for the last four lines, which are very high.  And actually, I could live with three of the four, we really only need the final line.  That said, I think we'll do a safety take tomorrow just to have it.

Other tracks I was especially pleased with - Millions of Men and Getting Away With You.  I have to listen one more time to Second Avenue, but I think we have two good takes plus some line fixes, so I'm fairly certain we have it.

Evening all you wonderful people in the dark!

War Movies, eh?  Well two of my favorites that I can think of are Hanover Street with Harrison Ford and Uncertain Glory with Mr. Errol Flynn.

I wish I was in NY so I could go see Anthony’s show!  Lots of posts and pictures, please!

VixMom the software is called Singing Coach Unlimited.  I only got to work with it about a half hour of Saturday morning.  As you could see from the vocal range screen, I need a LOT of work.   Send me a PM or E-mail and ask me what you will about the software.  I will answer what I can.

I didn’t get to tell you all about the puppies I saw on Saturday.  There was a new PetCo Store that opened so they had some of the rescue groups come in.

There was one puppy.  Oh, how I wish I could have gotten her.  She came right over to me and licked my fingers.   She was black and white in color and  had one blue eye and one brown eye.  But two big dogs are more then enough for me to handle.   The shots and meds and vet visits are all I can afford.

Hi, I'm back.

I've been spending a ton of time working on getting my lake house ready to sell, it's literally taken months. But, now it is on the market and hopefully will sell quickly.

I've also been traveling. I was in Phoenix for a few days and spent a week in New York, but my computer died as soon as I got there, so I was incommunicado while I was there.

I was there for a meeting, but I did manage to see Spamalot and Streetcar Named Desire.  I was planning to see Spelling Bee. I wanted to go to the first Sunday Matinee but it was the only time my friend, Rupert Holmes, could have lunch with me, so I did that instead! It was great to see him again.

Anyway, it's been a very busy Spring.

BK, glad that you and Guy Haines got so much done today...good vocal chord vibes to you......

Good Evening!

Greetings from the lobby of Steve's condo complex - free highspeed wireless and a large screen TV with cable!

I finally hit the wall around 8:30.  Up until that time, I had boxed up the remaining "stuff", sorted out my clothes, brought a bunch of stuff over to the storage unit, vacuumed the whole apartment, washed the dishes, and had a protein bar (my quasi-late lunch/early dinner).

After cleaning the apartment, I cleaned up myself and packed an overnight bag and headed over here.  OH!  And I found my Mamma Mia! keyboard book.  More specifically the one I'm playing this week.  I thought I had found it earlier, but realized it was my other book.  Then, horrors of horrors, I began to think that I had packed it up with all my binders.  Yikes! Thankfully, after calming down for a bit, I found it in the box of stuff that I had set aside for this week - recent mail, bills, etc.

In any case...

I got here about 20 minutes ago.  Steve got in a few minutes after me - he had rehearsal tonight with the Richmond Men's Chorus.  And, right now, he's heating up a frozen pizza, and we shall be having "dinner" in a few...

In the meantime, I've opened up each page of today's posts in a "tab", and I shall read them later.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to respond tonight since I have a feeling I'll be in bed early - maybe even by 11:00!  It's been a long couple of days, and I've gotten about seven hours of sleep over the past two nights.  And since I have a sound check and a show tomorrow... -Plus some more moving stuff to finish up, I really want and need a good night's sleep.

So... Until later...

Laters...

If you read the last few days of posts in one sitting, as I have, you just might come to the conclusion that BK has a "little problem" with EmergenC!

Hey, Rodzinski. Having you back is like jumping rope with an electric eel while eating potato salad. (That's a good thing.) Welcome back!

Glad Rodzinski is finally back!

I have no problem with EmergenC other than having to pee all the time from the amount of water and EmergenC I have been drinking.

I've just had my third cup of EmergenC for the day and am feeling very relaxed and actually quite nice.  A bit later I shall have a steaming shower.

War movies: JRand and MBarnum both named what I thought was a rather rare flick called BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL. Quite a good show. Robert Wagner is this rich Southern silver-spoon type, see. And Buddy Ebsen is in his unit and he's a real, well, hillbilly. Do you think Wagner learns the value of friendship during some rough fighting in Japan? Watch and find out.

I always enjoyed VON RYAN'S EXPRESS, but maybe its a little cheesy now.
I like the film version of CATCH-22 a lot.

A great one I saw last year was called THE LOST SQUADRON with Richard Dix, Joel McCrea and Erich von Stroheim. Three great pilots come back from WWI and can't find a job and end up as hobos till they show up on von Stroheim's movie set where he hires them as stunt pilots, but he is so crazy, he wants only the most dangerous-looking stunts he can get, so he's getting all these guys killed. The only movie I know of from that era that features somebody flipping the bird.

Funny Sandra, potato salad with eels was one of the dishes on the menu in Montreal.

BK, glad to hear. I've heard of EmergenC addictions, people tripping out at clubs and whatnot.

Ah, one more War movie that I love...HELL TO ETERNITY (1960) starring Jeffrey Hunter, David Janseen, Miiko Taka, Michi Kobi, and the lovely Reiko Sato who the following year would co-star as Helen Chao in FLOWER DRUM SONG!

I must now peruse my new issue of CLASSIC IMAGES and then hit the hay.

Really?  I can have an EmergenC on my back?

No, no addiction, and I tell you I cannot wait until tomorrow is done because I shall not be drinking that stuff again for quite some time.

Odd place, Montreal. Okay, I knew they speak French up there. No, this was not lost on me. But they REALLY speak it. It's not just a game to those folks! I had to remember some of the things I learned in high school and college. Came in handy when filling up the gas tank, let me tell you. Although "vingt" Canadian dollars only fills a tank less than halfway...

Anyways, to answer the question posed by TCB, I was not particularly well-behaved on my journey north. Montreal, it turns out, is a town that seems to cater to vices a good bit. Luckily, mine are not as bad as some folks. But a good time was had, I saw some things I'll not soon forget, some I'll never remember, and some I'll just TRY to never remember.

The only legal trouble we had was a ticket for someone talking on his cellphone while driving, and that was two blocks from my apartment!

The only thing I remember about my one trip to Canada when I was three was when we were in a public bathroom somewhere in Quebec and there was this girl in there talking in French to her mom. I was only three, so I didn't realize she was speaking another language and just thought she was crazy.

There's your completely random and irrelevant story for the day.

It's getting hard to tell if this paper is done or not because I'm not really sure what it's about in the first place.

Which reminds me of two Montgomery Clift war movies that are excellent:

THE SEARCH, directed by Fred Zinneman. Really, extremely good, but inexplicably not on video. TCM shows it now and then.

And the underrated THE BIG LIFT, which is available wherever cheap public domain films are sold. I guess both of these are technically postwar films, but they both deal directly with military and the aftermath of WWII.

Not completely irrelevant, because I did get into some trouble at that gas station restroom. At this point, we had just arrived in the country, and all the signs were in both languages and I go to use the restroom, and some guy is standing outside, and he speaks to me in French, and I thought he was mumbling in English and messing with me, then it dawns on me, he's speaking French. So he repeats himself, and I understand, okay, his wife is in the bathroom, so all I wanted to do was say "thanks", and I draw a complete blank. I'm remembering the French word for "ski lift", "butcher shop" everything else, and I can't think of "Merci"!

Okay, enough of my babble. I shall now babble off to sleep. Goodnight Sandra, George, Tomovoz and BK who is likely right now showering under the influence of EmergenC.

"télésiége" is "ski lift", by the way.

Good night!

And I'll remember "telesiege" in case I ever find myself in the bathroom with a girl who only speaks French again. At least we'll have something to talk about.

I might consider Miss Jessica Skerritt as Daisy Mae, but she keeps ignoring us.  We've tried our best to make her a star, but she is blissfully unaware, you see, and the blissfully unaware need to be aware in order for stardom to strike.

I think I'm going to wrap up this paper because I don't really know where I'm going with it any more. I still need to scrape together a presentation for tomorrow. I need a visual aid. Any ideas?

Yes, a Swedish Chef Hat and an epee are fine visual aids.

Oy and vey, the WUSSBURGERING around these here parts from once vital and fun-craving denizens is at an all-time high or low, depending on which way you look at it.
