Whilst we are all propagating, let us post until the cows come home as we get ready for our huge Sunday celebration. If you haven't read the notes, please do so - if you haven't propagated yet you'll just have to do one little click to be redirected to the new server - once there, read notes and click as usual after them to come back to the discussion board (at our new home).

Hi Ron!
-
I'm so confused. Is this where I'm supposed to be?
:(
I'm the only one here...online...at this time.
And there's almost always a few right after midnight.
Alas, alack, achoo.
-
Hi, Donna. Thank goodness someone else is online.
I thought I was at a dead end and there was a whole 'nother board I should be at.
Oddly enough, I read BK's notes, clicked at the bottom of them, and found myself on a strange page directing me to "log in." It wouldn't accept anything from me.
All's well that ends well, however.
-
Okay. I reset my bookmark and had to log in again - but at last things are fine! :)
Friday at last.
In my CD player JEEPERS CREEPERS!
In my DVD player THE TOWERING INFERNO.
In my VCR THE ROAD TO ZANZIBAR.
In my car - me heading for work. >:(
-
Hey good morning.
Okay I'm trying to remember what time I posted at last night. I know it was after 9pm ET (which could be in the window of lost posts). I don't see my post. Oh well.
I probably won't be able to post much. But hopefully everyone will have a good Friday!
-
Btw, how come we can't get any more stars for posting more? Or additional incentive. It was so fun getting to full membership and 3 stars. But is that all there is? :(
-
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]Friday! Friday! Friday![/move]
And a 4 day weekend! YaY! :) :) ;D ;D
Be well, BK. Soup, herbal tea and rest today for you my lad!
Have a good and happy day all!
D

Good Florida Morning.
Since cold front that arrived here last Sunday and will return this Sunday. My Mother has taken over the DVD player and been borrowing the car.
DVD player: The Ten Commandments (bittersweet memories for her. She was there)
CD player: Lawrence Welk Time, The Great Polka Accordian and Other Greatest Hits
VCR: My Bar Mitzvah. (You were such a nice kid. What happened???)
but seriously folks. ;D
My mother has been here since last Sunday and she rented two movies this week from Blockbuster. I guess none of my DVDs interested here. Can't remember the first one, but currently in the player is the OScar Winner from last year Nowhere in Africa. I saw it in the theaters. It was interesting to see that in the deleted scenes on the 2nd dvd must have been in the German release version because there are German subtitles when the characters speak languages other than German (English and whatever tribal language the natives speak.)
CD player Car. Pam Myers solo album (Thought I give it a 2nd chance) and the OC of Anyone Can Whistle.
CD player house: Jeepers Creepers. Really enjoying it.
-
Wow, you go away for a day and what happens? Servers change, you have to re-log in, and most disheartening is the news from WFO. So sorry to hear about that. Hope the appeal goes a different way.
Well, I'm here and logged in and re-bookmarked and ready to go. Nothing in work computer right now. Nothing in the VCR, mainly because the abomination that is called Time-Warner Cable of NYC is causing havoc in our lives >:(
Kerry & MG, great news about Sugar. My sister named one of her dogs Sugar also. She looks like a fun little girl.
Well, I'll be in and out all day. And yes, from what I've heard on the street, Taboo is this season's DOTV.
-
As the day progresses, I will probably listen to, at work, Michael Feinstein-Isn't It Romantic, Barbara Cook-Close as Pages in a Book, The Most Happy Fella (1992 w/Liz Larsen et al), Marry Me a Little-Off-Broadway cast w/Craig Lucas and Suzanne Henry.
I needs must up my posting quotient, not only to keep BK amused whilst he is under the weather (get out from there, don't stay under the weather, get on top of it) but for my own statistical enjoyment. I will post early and often (as they used to say about voting in Chicago).
-
And in the midst of my posting frenzy, I must attend to work, since I am at a desk paid for by my employer, listening to CDs on a computer provided by my employer, visiting HHW (at http://208.50.7.254/) on time paid for by my employer. I must do something to recompense my employer, so off to work, at least for a while. ;)
-
It seems to me that things are loading faster. I've never had a big problem at work (at home I'm on dial-up) but there were times when things lagged a bit, but today, on the new server, it seems things are operating at a much faster pace. Computers are amazing when they work! Hope this helps those DRs who have slow loads.
-
Yes, things are faster. I went back to the Saturday notes which had a plethora of pictures and lo and behold (dloheb dna ol - this is a mirror site after all) things loaded in a snap! Hoo and Ray and Yar dna Ooh.
-
Wondering. I edited my profile yesterday and now it is back to the way it was. And their is an error box at the bottom of the profiles so you cannot change everything. Also I noticed that if you click on the the link for today's collumn it takes you to the form ISP and then you have to click to get to the new one. Just thought I'd you know as I am sure there will be kinks to be worked out.
-
Just posted a note in the Tech Board about the problem accessing the profile so Mr MB (that's Mark Bakalor in Internet Lingo) can check it out.
-
CD: Clifton Chenier Bayou Blues; Dinah Washington Jazz Round Midnight; Swingers soundtrack
DVD: The Hours
VCR: Wednesday's Law & Order and West Wing
The latter written by an old friend and collaborator.
I wasn't impressed by Bruce Villanch in Hairspray. But when a lead role is given to someone who's never acted, danced or sung on stage before, expectations can't be too high.
-
Has anyone else tried to post a photo? I posted the error message I received on the tech board. Someone else please try one.
-
DVD - "The Jolson Story" & "Jolson Sings Again" - 2 highly fictionalized but still entertaining films that introduced clichés still in use today.
CD - The original Public Theatre recording of HAIR finally released on CD as a bonus disc to the umpteenth release of the inferior Broadway version. Jill O'Hara's voice alone makes the Public recording a must-have.
VHS - At some time this week I want to watch the NYCO TURANDOT since I'll be seeing it next weekend.
Question for BK, Donald, Bark Makalor or whomever might know: When changes in the site were initially mentioned, one of the changes was going to be the ability to go into an archive of the radio show and listen to older programs one might have missed or wanted to hear again. Is this still going to happen?
-
WEL-
That will be happening in the very near future. Switching to a new host is part of that transition to make it happen (and sooner rather than later)
-
Good Morning!!! Media rundown:
CD in car - Lorelei
CD near bed - Disk two of The Carpenters "Yesterday Once More"
CD in living room - Jeepers Creepers
DVD - The Lion King
VHS - The North Avenue Irregulars
Things seem to be loading quicker, lightning speed now with DSL, before it wasn't as lightning.
-
Good Morning esteemed, sniffly, achy, La-Grippe-wridden, but still ever dashing BK --
It indeed sounds like you have picked up a bug of some sort, rather than just allergies. It probably calls for some good, full-strength chicken soup, shrimp cocktail shrimp, and the best miracle healing and comfort food of all.....ice cream. You really gave my taste buds a major pang of nostalgia when you mentioned C.C. Brown's.
Our biggest heartfelt thoughts and vibes to WFO & little Joe; the legal system these days, often, seems to have little to do with what is actually right or fair. I'm so glad that DR Kerry got out of it years ago.
Media check:
-
well, that was sucky....I wasn't done, and something jumped the gun!! I had to put a hose with cold water on both the gun, and something. ....anyway,
VCR -- "Two For The Road"
car CD player -- Jeepers Creepers, and both Kritzer CDs
DVD -- YEA !!! Our 4th season of The Sopranos arrived, and we watched the first episode.
-
Has anyone else tried to post a photo? I posted the error message I received on the tech board. Someone else please try one.
Not sure why this is a problem but we're looking into the issue here at the new host.
-
Just posted a note in the Tech Board about the problem accessing the profile so Mr MB (that's Mark Bakalor in Internet Lingo) can check it out.
This problem should now be fixed.
-
Thanks! You KNOW people are anxious for their Allison Hayes picture of the day!
-
Greetings fellow Haineses & Kimletts! Ah, the weekend is here! Zippo in the DVD player & VCR as I will be trekking around the Valley, but I shall have a plethora of showtunes in the car.
-
Sorry to hear about your illness, bk. I remember it well (Lerner and Loewe reference) going to school to teach when I was sick many times. It was easier to just go and work the best I could rather than get up sub plans that basically marked time with my students until I could return. Yep, lots of soup and rest when you get home. Tear yourself away from the DVD machine if you can.
Media alert for today:
CD - I'm going back to SATINS AND SPURS with Betty Hutton. I was distracted by learning TITANIC when I last put it in, so without distractions, let's see how I like it. I'd also like to reinvestigate NO STRINGS (OCR) as I said I'd do yesterday.
VHS - last night's WILL & GRACE and SCRUBS
DVD - INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM.
-
Well. possums, tomorrow night we are seeing Dame Edna: The Show That Cares!
-
Good morning all.
Thank god it's Friday...what a crazy week it's been.
In VCR - Muppet Christmas Carol...a classic
In DVD - Harry Potter, Chamber of Secrets, the extras DVD
In car CD - Rent, disc 2
I just heard on the news that our Washington State Ferry system is selling one of the ferries on ebay. Minimum bid of 500,000. Remind me not to tell my father...
Have I mentioned how glad I am that it's Friday?
-
The add photo function does not seem to work at this time.
-
Interestingly, my HHW board has propagated but my direct link to haineshisway.com has not. So, propagation is happening. As I said, the only difference you will see is that you may have to re-log in, and there may be an occasional hiccup as things get settled in. One such hiccup is still the ability to post photos. Also, if you click to go to the notes from HERE you will be taken to the old site (where you'll click again to get to the new server - simple as pie) until propagation is complete. Can someone go to haineshisway.com and get to the new server and try out the radio show? Don't do it from here - do it from the new bk's notes page "A General Malaise" is what you should see.
-
I heard that story on the news also, Ann, but I thought they meant that Washington was selling one of our fairies.
MattH: I'll bet you were a great teacher. I will be interested to hear what you think about last night's WILL & GRACE.
Media Check: Another week of OLIVER, OLIVER, AND OLIVER (we are off book next week). The DVD player is currently empty in anticipation of FINDING NEMO.

A longish appreciation of a Way Off-Broadway Production.
Wagon Trails Revue
Well, dear readers, last night I attended the annual show put on by the Mooresville High School Annual Staff...the book is called Wagon Trails - since we are the Mooresville Pioneers. I say "we", because yes I graduated from this public school some years ago.
As in most schools - I assume - there are many vocal groups & choirs. Some are mixed, some are boys or girls only. The absolutely tippy top of vocal musical achievement at my alma mater is a group called The Spotlighters - the stage crew is of course called The Spot Removers.
On to the show. It began ON TIME with a slide show of the previous production particularly featuring those Seniors whose last show this would be. Karen Carpenter singing "We've Only Just Begun" was played under the presentation.
The show proper began with the introduction of the Yearbook staff who were called onstage from different parts of the auditorium on cell phones with the oft repeated phrase "can you hear me now?"
The first number - or the first I remember - were three girls dressed in Britney Spears short plaid skirts and tied white blouses, etc, singing 'Three Little Maids' from <The Mikado. It was a cute idea, but because I couldn't understand what they were saying and the staging was so dreadful, I quickly lost interest.
Another comedy skit encouraged us to order our new Wagon Trails.
Then some mixed groups sang, and I couldn't understand them...does NO ONE teach diction along with singing? I thought they were singing a song about Indiana and then checked the program to find out they were singing "In Vienna"! Then there was the Jazz Band which did a very nice version of "Sing Sing Sing" which I enjoyed very much.
Another comedy sketch. I guess they were determined that I would order Wagon Trails. This sketch had a "survivor" theme. Would that I could, I was hoping.
Then came the Madrigals. They were wonderful. I could understand what they were singing, and the staging was very clever. They sang an "amen" song and then one called "Throw Another Log on the Fire, Uncle John."
More "comedy" involving walking furniture reading Wagon Trails.
A jazz dance solo number that was VERY GOOD.
Then came two boys dressed in drag who were very funny - one looked like Edna Turnblad and the other dressed like Madonna. They were introducing an all girl group Finesse....or as the heavy set boy said....in an exagerrated lisp: Finessssssssssssssse. Very funny.
Well this group was great! They sang a song about angels and a couple of other rock songs with some really great choreography. They used the stage and all of the members got to be in front for a least part of the numbers. It was very good. They were dressed in butter yellow short dresses with full chiffon skirts and lots of bugle beads, small straps with a yellow silk fold over at the bustline. Really beautiful dresses and some good singing.
Then something else happened and it was intermission.
After that - a drum trio that rocked with the only imaginative lighting of the evening - black lights on white tee shirts, etc. A couple of solos - most of these sung nasally. One boy sang a lot of his song falsetto which was very irritating.
A duet - the "Elephant" duet from Moulin Rouge that includes many songs. It was done well - but there was a lot of noise on other open mikes around the theatre. A bit of better staging would have saved the number, as it was, it entertained. I am not sure I believed the boy and girl singing it felt anything about each other.
Then came the orchestra to do two pieces: Danse Cardinale (?) and The Rosin Eating Zombie. Okay, interesting and they were all together. Would rather hear something I knew, but that's okay. They did a nice job tempo wise.
Next up more "comedy" Yearbook Eye for the Nerd Guy.
Then "Genesis", my nephews group. Freshmen boys and girls. Cute routine...they did some really nice dance steps and moved a LOT! Their second number was "Middle" about their lot in life and it was very funny. I could understand them, and there was always something to look at.
The the Nerd Guys came back all dressed up and introduced The Spotlighters.
This mixed group really does some nice work. They did three songs - middle number "A Little Less Conversation" was my favorite. They ended with a gospel number that was well staged, but not their strongest suit.
ANYWAY show over....THREE HOURS AFTER IT STARTED!!
I don't have my Wagon Trails - I don't even think I have one from my High School Days.
Please if you are learning to sing - learn to enunciate! And at least once every ten years, attend a high school choir show! ;D It will be a great reminder or a sobering eye-opener! :P
-
Good morning! Good Yawning!
It is 11:47 EST and I have already had three fullll cups of coffee! Including and espresso from Second Cup! Yippee! I am "Excited Espresso Emily" today! ;)
I am typing this in the arts undergraduate lounge and computer centre as DR Andrea frantically works on her The Age of Innocence paper for some God-awful English class. She is frantic. Almost as frantic as if she had drunk far more than one espresso. She says hello between frantic screams.
DR Ann: The Muppet Christmas carol is a TRADITION among my sisters and I. We can sing the entire score off by heart! "No cheeses for us meeces!" Ha! "Even the vegetables don't like him!" Guffaw! :)
I have nothing new in my VCR or DVD player and since I got the new computer I am far too scared to install Kazaa (it brought a TON of viruses to the old family 'puter) so I am also pretty stagnant when it comes to MP3s. I am listening to "Zanna Don't" though still. It has to be one the most perfect public transportation travel cast albums ever. I mean - it's loud enough to be heard over the métro and it's upbeat enough to not make you want to throw yourself at an incoming train or bus. ;)
Speaking of public transportation, the STM (that's the Société de transport de la ville de Montréal for all of you are not Jennifer or Andrea or Angela) is planning a massive strike for Nov. 16 and onwards. I have no idea what I'm going to do seeing as I don't drive and I have no money for taxis. Do you think my gun control bosses would shell out for a taxi to take me to and from work and school and work and home (all of which are of course on opposite sides of the Island)!? I hope so, because otherwise I am screwed with a capital $. :(
-
Noel already told you what's in the various media outlets, so...
Since I missed Ask BK day: BK, have you ever read the book "TeeVee Humphrey"? The Kritzer books reminded of it. It's not the same story, but it has that nostalgic feel to it. It's about a boy who wants to work in TV and his many amusing adventures thereof.
-
OMG DR Joy - I haven't thought of TeeVee Humphrey for many years....LOL.
And you are right TeeVee and Benjamin share many things in common. Most of all, they make me laugh! LOL...
-
In CD player: PARADISE HONOLULU -The Hawaii Shochiku Orchestra. This is one of a series of CDs of 1940s Japanese-American Big Bands. Great music!!
DVD Player: Have been having a Brad Harris film festival as I prepare to do an interview with him. Watched SO DARLING, SO DEADLY and DEATH IS NIMBLE, DEATH IS QUICK last night. Today will be SAMSON and THE FURY OF HERCULES.
Still sick. Blah.
-
Wow, my Karma has almost doubled! That makes me very, very happy!
-
DR MBarnum our Karma is identical!
-
DR MBarnum our Karma is identical!
Now boys, no measuring each other's karma in public!
-
lol TCB.
DR Emily - perhaps you should dust off your skateboard.
-
Never read TeeVee Humphrey. Still way under the weather, but the viewing situation for both today and tomorrow is much lighter than I thought it would be. I thought I'd have fifteen tapes per day, and it looks more like six and five, so I might try to view all eleven tapes today, and then use tomorrow to start outlining the first show.
-
I can't recall a time since the new board went up (except after midnight) when there's only been one person perusing the board. Really, let's not have one of THOSE Fridays - I'm much too sick and I want stuff to read while I'm going blind viewing tapes.
-
WEL-
That will be happening in the very near future. Switching to a new host is part of that transition to make it happen (and sooner rather than later)
Does this mean that Donald Feltham is [sniff] [gulp] leaving???????
-
In my CD player at work: Brownstone with Liz Callaway, Brian D'Arcy James, Debbie Gravitte, Rebecca Luker and Kevin Reed.
In my (region-code-free) DVD player at home: By Jeeves written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Alan Ayckbourn...only available in a region 2 DVD from England, but it was the Canadian production that was filmed.
In my record player: Candide. I was supposed to make CDs of two different versions of this show for a friend of mine, but I didn't...yet. Maybe this weekend.
In my VCR: nothing.
-
I heard that story on the news also, Ann, but I thought they meant that Washington was selling one of our fairies.
LOL. This reminds me of one of my first days on an aircraft carrier I served on that was homeported here in the Bay Area in the mid-80s. One of the boys in my new shop was regaling me with stories of what it had been like when the ship had sailed around the world from Newport News, VA to Alameda CA.
After he detailed all the hoopla and fuss made over the ship as it moored at Alameda and hosted tons of press and family, he told me how excited he was to be here.
What I thought he said next was that he went into San Francisco, hopped on a fairy and rode him all the way to Sausalito.
I was a bit appalled, but fascinated. Then it became clear, after a few more uses of the word, that he was pronouncing "ferry" as "fairy."
;D
-
In the CD player: Wagner's Siegfried.
-
Jrand: LOVED the report of the Mooresville High presentation!
It was Indiana quaint.
I also loved the way it perked up as you were describing the outfits of the two guys in drag! ;D
Mary Tyler Moore it was fabulous!
-
Ron: Hope you're kidding about Donald, otherwise I don't know why you would think that. Donald is here and will continue to be here until the cows come home.
-
Hello DR's!
CD--Gypsy OCR, Avenue Q OCR
Record--Mack and Mabel OCR...can you believe I found the LP for like $2...maybe I should just by LPs from now on.
DVD and VHS--nothing lately...I haven't had much time...though I may be seeing Pulp Fiction for the first time later in the day!
BK--I'm so sorry that you're sick! Would sending more pretty multicolored health vibes be effective at all? Hell, you're getting them anyway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emily--My KaZaa days are also no more! I'm completely paranoid now that if I download so much as one song, I'll be arrested and have to pay the equivalent of my entire college tuition for the next 2 years. So I'm back to the good old-fashioned practice of paying for all (or at least most--I have some nice friends) of my music!
Jrand--Thanks for the account! Talent shows and choir shows are always so much fun!
Ron--LOL! I didn't even know there was a difference in the pronunciations of ferry and fairy until a few years ago!
-
Craig said the archives will be made available when you guys get a new host. Donald is the current host. What else was I to think?
-
EEEE! I am vexed!( Stanley Holloway reference...Albert and the Lion). So I come on the boards last night and this morning. And suddenly there are no pictures along the side, no karma points, no astrological signs, no little quotes. No quick post box at the bottom. Then I decide to post a message about all this. They tell me I have to log in. Now I had pressed the permanent log-in button and have for the past several days had no problem at all. But I log in (with my new password) and now all the pics and quotes and karma points are back.
But "consistency is all I ask" (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead reference). I hate computers. If you're going to make a product for the mass consumer, it should be as easy to operate as your TV set (and some of them are getting damned complex). It shouldn't take an engineering degree to operate all these so-called "conveniences" that are supposed to make our lives run easier. I'm an old man. I'm tired of being behind the curve all the time. I don't want to have to learn anything NEW. I want to rest on my laurels, dammit! My life is not being made easier. In fact, I have a theory that all this technology and all this access to an excess of information and diversion is why we as a nation are so totally stressed out. We all need to partake of Li'l Abner's druthers more often. End of rant! Where's my hammock?
In the car tape player: Righteous Bros.
In the CD player: Warriors of the Silver Screen, soundtracks from swashbucklers and costume epics.
DVD: THE SEAGULL, Frank Langella & Blythe Danner
-
The "host" of the radio show is of course a different species than the "host" of HHW - a computer somewhere that keeps track of everything on the site, so that when we log on it is here!
Host: Human. Stay. Host: Website. New.
-
Craig said the archives will be made available when you guys get a new host. Donald is the current host. What else was I to think?
Er, no.
Craig said:
That will be happening in the very near future. Switching to a new host is part of that transition to make it happen (and sooner rather than later)
That is to say that we had just changed web hosts and that should allow us to get more shows up from the archives.
-
Dear Reader Charles Pogue--
Methinks you should switch to decaf coffee.
-
What happened was we in a sense shut down the community on the old server. Last night when you accessed the site you were accessing the copy of the site on the old server. This is why you were unable to login and post.
However, had you read the news and announcements posted in several places on that page you would have seen that you could instantly get to the site on the new host by clicking one link. For some reason you just assumed things were broken and waited until you logged in this morning.
Then, when you came this morning the host change had propogated and you were finally accessing us from the new server. Because it was at a new server the cookie that had been set to remember your login information didn't work. That means you had to log in once again but now, as always, it should remember your login information next time you access the site.
-
I’m in. That was easy.
Jennifer, at least you made it to full member. Others of us are stuck at newbie with no idea of our progress.
-
But it still won't figure my income tax!
-
Jane...50 posts (or thereabouts) gets you to Jr. Member. 100 posts gets you to full member. I have no clue about the star system
-
The Karma has returned. It wasn't there a minute ago, on my computer anyway.
-
although it makes sense that you gain a star each time you gain a level...reminds me of a computer game I used to be addicted to...
Remember: Everything is the same - only different.
Mr. Mark Bakalor: Is the photo function working yet?
-
Have I mentioned how glad I am that it's Friday? ;D
-
Computers are a lot like two year olds...they throw fits for no reason whatsoever, and any information has to be repeated several times for it to sink in. I wonder if we can send our server to bed without dessert tonight...
-
DR Jane - you are only 11 posts away from Jr. Membership!
-
Hey, BK!
Treat yourself to a grog!
Grog
1 shot rum
1 teaspoon sugar (preferably superfine)
Squeeze of lime juice
Cinnamon stick
Boiling water
Stir all ingredients, adding enough boiling water to fill mug or glass.
Is it just me, or don't you think that Mark-You're-All-Crazy-Bakalor looks darn cute on that pic of his??? :-*
More later!
-
Thanks Ann. I should just keep on posting but I must go read The Sparrow or I won't be prepared to lead the discussion on it.
-
Hey Bruce, I can just picture you drinking that-LOL.
-
Well, I've just been perusing some of the old pages that I hadn't seen until now, so I'm finally going to clear up an age-old mystery:
WEL, my Sondheim vibes were for WFO.
There.
Maya, are you auditioning anywhere else besides JMU? Did you look at Shenandoah? If so, what did you think? If not, why not?
-
Ann!
It's FRIDAY!
Aren't you glad??
If it's Friday... it must be Belgium!
-
Remember: Everything is the same - only different.
Mr. Mark Bakalor: Is the photo function working yet?
Nope. For some reason it appears the new host isn't set up to allow users to upload files through this software. We'll have to look into how to fix this problem. When we have a solution I'll let everyone know.
-
Poor Allison will be stacked up.
-
So to speak.
-
DR Jay ;D
-
Jay, I don't drink coffee...period.
-
DR Charles Pogue - did you get your new issue of Scarlet Street yet?
-
I just received a very interesting letter. A portion of the profits from my father’s casket has gone to a children’s organization called York Children’s Foundation. Over the past 10 years the foundation has donated more than $1.8 million to children’s organizations nationwide, helping in every area of child welfare. I find this very comforting.
-
Oh, and Charles Pogue, I thought your rant was hilarious
-
Joy--well, right now JMU is definitely my #1 choice. They're a good strong liberal arts school with the option of getting a BA in musical theatre (as opposed to just theatre), they're affordable and I have a couple of friends who go there already.
I have looked into Shenandoah, but even if I did get in, there's really no way my family and I could pay for it, even with partial scholarships. I hear they have an excellent program, but I do have to be realistic about the economic factors of what school I should transfer to.
I do have a few back-ups in case I somehow screw up my audition and don't get into JMU's musical theatre program. I'm also looking into Mary Washington College and I've started researching Nothern Kentucky University. They're supposedly very affordable for an out of state school and also have a very strong musical theatre program.
Sorry I turned this into an essay! Joy (or any other DRs), do you have any recommendations for schools I should look into? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
François--Are you the only one who thinks Mark Bakalor looks adorable in his pic? Yes.
Just kidding! Mark, I think you are the bee's knees! :-* And they are cute knees too.
Forgive the vanity post. And now please excuse me as I go into my Full Member dance...
When I saw the word SHENENDOAH I thought you were refering to the musical (which it turns out you were not). Still it got me thinking. This is one of those musicals that I really changed my mind about. I saw the original production the same week I saw A CHORUS LINE at the Public, CHICAGO with Gwen and Chita, et. al. and at the time I felt SHENENDOAH was a little too old fashioned. When I saw the revival about fifteen years later I realized that not only was it not old fashioned, but also it was the kind of show Broadway needed and was better than 90% of the shows that opened between the original and revival. Or to paraphrase Cole Porter - "Make It Another Old Fashioned, Please". Do other DRs know this show, and if so what do you think of it?
-
Pre Breakfast post: CDs: "Les Parapluies De Cherbourg" (1980 French cast). "Philemon" (OBC) and "Cry For Us All" (OBC). I think the score for CFUA is a beautiful piece of work indeed. Thank to the WWB of generous people (New York Branch) for my CDs this week.
DVD: The delightful UK film "Green Fingers" (Helen Mirran).
-
Maya: What about Macbeth's family? Do they have money? I mean if the dude is going to steal you away from us, the least he can do is send you to a good school.
-
WEL: no-one is ever game enough to stage "Shenendoah" in Oz (Too American) but I find the score quite moving. I always thought that the Udell/Geld song "I'm Afraid To Go Home" (Gene Pitney) sounded like it was written for the show. A great song writing duo that is sadly neglected. As well as their three Broadway musicals, they wrote wonderful pop songs for Pitney, Jackie Wilson, The Carpenters etc.
-
I think I should play the Andrews sisters recoding of "FAIRY Boat Serenade" today.
-
Mr. Oz: Green Fingers? is that the anti-war film with Dean Stockwell?
Ah, Gene Pitney. I absolutely love his music.
-
WEL--I haven't heard the entire Shenandoah score, but I think "We Make a Beautiful Pair" is a lovely song!
TCB--LOL...awww, he could never steal me away from you guys! Unfortunately though, Macbeth is not doing very well moneywise. He just got into a car wreck, and although he is fine, his car isn't, and he may have to end up paying a couple grand.
If I could right now, I would help him out!!
-
TCB - I think you are thinking of The Boy With Green Hair.
-
Speaking of Bic Mac, Maya, my dear. When is opening night?
-
In less than a week right now, TCB, Nov. 13th we open (but not in Venice, Verona or Cremona etc.)!
Should I bother with putting it on the calender I wonder??
-
Ohhhhhh!
-
No it is a slightly tarnished version of the James Bond movie. It does also star the lovely Clive Owen (Gosford Park). It is about Prison gardening!
-
LOL, such an expressive response!
When does Oliver open??
-
Of course you should list it on the calendar, Maya. We want to know all about the play, as well as the boyfriend in the dress.
-
TCB--hahaha. Well, due to the accident, the dress has been postponed. I'm hoping it'll happen at the cast party!!
The thought of him in a dress is so making me want to buy a scanner!
-
Wow, Tom!
Don't you think that the 1980 Cast of CHERBOURG is terrific?
I have it on a reel to reel tape; the original LP is somewhere in Florida with someone who was "dying" to have it! 8)
Baretta and Bi Michelin were the stars, if I do remember well.
There also was a Broadway prod almost at the same time but I don't believe they made a recording of it!
Anyone knows? ???
-
Why thank you for asking, Maya (your check is in the mail). "Oliver open on December 12th in Gig Harbor, Washington's Encore Theatre.
It's nice that we can help plug each other's show.
-
So you will be picking pockets on my birthday TCB. I must shop for candy.
-
DR François - your umbrella will be mailed this week.
-
The board is tricontinental at the moment.
-
Tommy. I think we're alone now.
-
I think all DR Opening Nights should be on the Calendar!
-
I believe the attachment problem has been fixed. Let me know if you have trouble uploading files to posts.
-
Ooh, where's Jrand when you need him? Somebody, quick, put up a photo!
I had a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. I had cole slaw. I feel logey and bad, but my chills have abated and I'm not sneezing.
-
here I am! ;D
And here is your Allison Hayes Picture of the Day. The lovely Miss Hayes as the leader of a crime racket in The High Powered Rifle, a movie that has disappeared from the face of the earth.
-
This is a test... it is only a test
-
Thank you Mark Bakalor!
-
Excellent. We iz stylin'. Soon we will all be propagated and won't that be fun and a half?
-
OMG I am a SENIOR MEMBER! 250 must be the magic number for the 4th star!
-
Let me be the first to THANK Mark Bakalor for fixing the slight glitches we have had today since switching to the new server.
Mark AND Russell have both done a fine job.
Personally I didn't miss seeing dozens of photos posted in today's notes. It was actually nice to just read people's thoughts.
I do love the occasional image now and then..
-
Thanks, you two. It's nice to know many appreciate the work that goes into maintaining projects such as this.
-
BK - feed a cold... a very good reason to eat :)
-
Hey what ever DID happen to Russell? He stopped posting all of a sudden!
Maybe we scared him away... :)
BTW - I think I may have to stop checking HHW from work if we keep posting imgaes of women, pistols drawn and the large caption "High Powered Rifle"! Think of me in my firearm free zone!
:)
-
Well, well...the message board seems to be loading much faster now.
JRand, nope, haven't got my Scarlet Street yet. Why?Should I be shocked by anything? Mr. Valley, had me correct and proof the copy, so I'm not expecting any surprises.
Maya, having grown up in Northern Kentucky, I have followed the progress of NKU over the years since its inception (1968...the year I graduated from High School). I have heard good things the last few years about its theatre program. I was there just last week (My brother lives right behind the school). I suspect you could do a lot worse and there is lots to do in the Greater Cincinnati area.
-
Yes, Mark and Russell deserve a big thanks for staying on top of everything as we made the switch. I can be fairly vile when I'm frustrated, but we really do appreciate the hard work.
-
BK - make soup. Lots of soup. :)
And the best soup for colds has to be (drumroll please)...
FRENCH ONION SOUP (please note that THIS IS NOT my family's centuries old recipe - gotta love that French Canadian blood coursing through my veins - but a very close version I took off of the net. The secret ingredient = a strong beer, preferably stout but really any kind gives a nice flavor!)
Serves 8 to 12 hungry people
3 pounds mixed onions, chopped thick (i.e. red, Spanish white, yellow, etc.)
4 oz (1 stick) butter
6 oz double or triple boch beer or strong stout
1 lb bread, broken into medium chunks
Chunks and slices of Swiss, Gruyere, or Monterey Jack cheese
64 oz veal stock or 32 oz beef stock and 32 oz chicken stock
Pour stock into large pot. Heat until boiling and then simmer.
In large pan, melt the butter then add onions. If not all of the onions will fit into the pan at once, make two batches and split the butter accordingly. Fry the onions until medium brown and an obvious aroma is detected. *Do not* clean the pan and put onions into already simmering stock. Without cleaning the pan, pour the 6 oz. of beer . Heat on low until the alcohol starts to burn off and "scrape" the residue from the onions into the beer solution. Let the solution sit on the heat for several minutes, until even darker and more aromatic. Add only enough of the beer solution to the rest of the soup according to your taste. I gave 6 oz. because this is usually sufficient, but you may prefer less. Add seasonings to soup according your taste. For example, I prefer ground black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and a little salt -- no big deal.
Preheat oven to broil (500F or 260C). Let soup sit on low heat to give the flavors a chance to fuse together... this should not take too long. Keep tasting the soup to judge as to when it's done!
Place chunks of bread into oven-safe bowls. Pour soup into bowls and layer the cheese on top of soup, completely covering the soup.
In heated oven, set the filled bowls until cheese is lightly brown (or hey, dark brown, depending on your taste). This usually takes only about ten minutes but this will depend on the type of cheese you're using. Keep an eye on it.
This soup is perfect for colds because it is hot, yummy and the onion flavour is strong enough that you can actually taste them with a stuffed nose! :)
-
and by the way... use the beef stock. The others are very non-authentic.
-
Well, my goodness - our latest registered user is Mr. John Doe. Isn't that interesting? Why people would bother to register under John Doe is rather strange, given that they could just lurk and read. But, I guess some people don't "get" it - we don't use pseudonyms here like on other boards - we are one big happy family unlike other boards. Well, perhaps Mr. Doe will post.
-
Faster loading down in OZ too. I appreciate all the work too. Like Craig though It was good not have to have so many photos. I enjoy them but will be pleased when the novelty wears off a bit.
-
In the CD player: Wagner's Siegfried.
What about his sequel: Roy?
-
John Does is a registered user I created to test some things in the background. However, I don't see anything wrong with readers creating accounts even if they don't intend to post. There are quite a few features not available to lurkers unless they register.
-
Sorry, Emily. Just keep saying to yourself, it's only a movie...it's only a movie!
No nothing surprising or shocking in SS, DR Charles Pogue!
John Doe, I think the police are looking for you!
-
So, Mr. Mark Bakalor is John Doe. Shocking. I am naturally suspicious, oh, yes, I am naturally suspicious when I see a John Doe registering, and Mr. Mark Bakalor, you would think, would know this. I like when people register, I just don't like it when I don't know who they are. Capiche?
Re photos: I like them when someone is sharing something that's fun. I could live without the male and female beef and cheesecake, but that's just me. For example, I like sharing my art with you. I like seeing lobby cards sometimes, and interesting photos - anything where folks are sharing something personal. Photos just to have photos will disappear after the novelty wears off.
-
Reading others talking about THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL being a tradition reminds me I've already watched two of my CHristmas traditions well before Halloween: SCROOGE and A CHRISTMAS STORY, thanks to their distributors issuing the sparkling new DVDs so early. Ah, well, there's always IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.
-
I played Jacob Anderson (the oldest son) in a 1982 production of SHENANDOAH here in Charlotte. The "Next to Lovin'" number was staged with all this knockabout dancing and romping like something from SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, and wouldn't you know my character had HIS verse of the song AFTER all that dancing. Thankfully, I was MUCH younger then and in much better shape.
Thanks DR TCB. I haven't gotten around to W&G yet (kudos to DR Ron for a scentillating conversation today that kept me away from it), but I'll log back on later tonight and give you my feelings.
-
A smelly conversation from DRRon. Was it "fishy"? He is an old sailor after all.
-
Hey, all...just checking in to say hello. I have several things to do tonight, so I may not be on much. I was supposed to see a lot of shows this weekend, including WICKED tonight, but plans were changed, much to my chagrin. Oh, well... I'm supposed to see WONDERFUL TOWN on Sunday afternoon, though...assuming Ms. Murphy is feeling better. I've heard performances are cancelled through Sat. night...
-
I feel that Jason has been far too errant and truant lately, don't you? Now that his plans are canceled, he can be with us on the weekend, posting until the cows come home.
-
Yes, I know DR Ron is an "old" sailor. All I can say is that he's the salt of the earth.
[no groaning allowed at HHW.]
-
I know what you mean Matt H! It's like being a waiter in Hello, Dolly! and having to sing the last verse after all that dancing and a kick line! OR, thank you Jerry Herman - singing that last note in MAME!
Whew.....who needs aerobics? Just do a musical!
-
Now you've done it! I simply have to pull out my DVD of "Hello, Dolly!" right this minute and watch the "Waiters' Galop"!
Shoot!
-
I had fun reading the posts, especially the banter between Maya and TCB.
Back to my book.
-
DRs Emily and Maya, have you tried Kazaa Lite (http://k-litetk.com/index.asp)? It is the same thing as Kazaa, only without the spyware, ads, and viruses. Very handy little program.
DR Tom - I love the movie Greenfingers. Clive Owen is great! Also, are you a Hayao Miyazaki fan? When Spirited Away came out on DVD here, they also released Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service, so I bought all three and like them very much.
I have just come from seeing "Love Actually" which was a cute little film - it's put me very much in the holiday spirit. There were a little too many characters and plots for my taste, but it was a fun movie.
CD player - nothing
DVD player - Millennium Actress
VHS - nothing
It's a slow day for my multimedia apparently!
-
It seems that the server switch has made for faster loading on dial-up as well as T1 lines. My home service is faster and easier. Glad to see it.
I hope Ms. Murphy recovers soon. I heard wonderful things about her performance from a friend who saw Wonderful Town on Wednesday. Now, she is ill. She's a strong girl. She'll be better.
-
85 posts until Senior Membership. Oh, my. It's a goal to work toward. I will have to interrupt my work this weekend to post early and often, though I must do the laundry tomorrow. I also must spend time putting my presentation together for Cleveland on November 19 and 20. Flying by the seat of my pants. I hope my pants don't rip. That would be unseemly
-
JRand, you need to see if anything happens at 300, only 40 to go (for you that is).
-
No, Ben!
When it comes to pants it's... unseamly! :)
-
I almost groaned, but then remembered where I was.
-
DR LC. I am never sure if some of those "quiet" UK movies get a release in the USA. GLad you liked "Green Fingers". DR François recommended "Castle In the Sky" but is has not had a release here in OZ. I may import in the New Year as I enjoyed "Spirited" so much. has the UK movie "Calendar Girls" had a USA release yet? I may catch it at our local movies this week. Great cast.
-
Verbosity is my middle name!
-
Tom, I think Calendar Girls is coming out here around Christmas time. It looks so cute - can't wait to see it! There are often "quiet" but adorable UK movies that come out around this time of year, like Waking Ned Devine, Green Fingers, Saving Grace, etc. :)
I think I've gotten to 50 posts. Woo hoo!
-
Another nice film from Studio Ghibli, inho :
The Cat Returns (Neko no Ongaeshi)
-
Oh 250 posts is the magic number. Why didn't anyone announce this. I must see where I am :)
-
Sorry to report this Jason. But PBOL has Murphy out of Wonderful Town Nov 7-9
http://web.playbill.com/news/article/82662.html (http://web.playbill.com/news/article/82662.html)
-
Gee only 85 more posts to go. I feel like a madwoman! :)
-
I have just been absent as I have had my FIRST listen to "Philemon" by Jones & Schmidt. What a charming piece. It may not have met with success but a worthy score - IMHO much better than "Celebration" which I have never really warmed to. ("110 In The Shade" is still far and away their best).
-
Now for some different listening. I am going "Backstage" with Gene Pitney. Can you believe he has no recording contract? He still sounds great and had hit recordings outside of the USA after this glory days of the 60's. Last recording I know of was his "backing vocals" on a Jane Oliver CD a year or so ago. Don't you all feel better knowing that. Of course I realise that some people will now ask "Who is Gene Pitney?"
-
OK Jay & Ben. I can't do it alone. Keep up the posts.
-
Senior membership?!?
Sheesh! I haven't even made it to full membership yet! :)
I just discovered an ab fab summer job possibility as a tour guide on Parliament Hill. A very precise $13.14/hr and all the fun you can possibly muster in Ottawa (Ottawa fun is an oxymoron... but whatever... $13.14!!! That's a lot of moolah!) Oh and Ottawa is only an hour and a half away by car/bus/train from Mtl.
I can sooooo see myself doing this! :)
-
OK, here's my input. We've almost beat yesterday's numbers. I don't think we can hit last Friday's numbers but we must try to get say 175? Bruce is sick, people. Let's post for BK (not Burger King but Bruce Kimmel). We need the pom poms again. I don't look so good in a cheerleader outfit anymore. Maybe 30 years ago in high school, but not now.
-
Well, that was nice. At least on my screen that post popped us over to 6 pages.
-
I have just been absent as I have had my FIRST listen to "Philemon" by Jones & Schmidt. What a charming piece. It may not have met with success but a worthy score - IMHO much better than "Celebration" which I have never really warmed to. ("110 In The Shade" is still far and away their best).
Tom, I won the album of Philemon on eBay last week but I haven't received it yet. Hopefully soon! I also won the London cast (vinyl) album of Where's Charlie from the same seller (to save on shipping), except that I didn't realize that I already have this recording...and on CD! I hate it when I buy something that I already own, especially when I can't back out of the sale (like on eBay). D'oh!
I also have Celebration. I don't love the score, but there are individual songs that I really like. And I agree with you that 110 In the Shade is better than Celebration.
-
It must be late. George is here. I hope we hear from DR Jose this weekend. I guess he is very busy despite it not being the merry month of May. I hope it will not be long before we gaze at his late night essays again. Enough of my Camelot references, I shall return to doing what simple folk do.
-
So Mr. Oz, you warmed to 110 in the Shade?
I think I will watch the movie Tootsie tonight. I always enjoy that.
-
Oh, I don't know Ben, I would be willing to pay to see you in a cheerleader skirt.
-
I was just thinking of DR Jose, also. It has been quite a while since his late night musings. Camelot must be taking much of his time. I hope he has time to bake, at least. I saw an ad for Camelot at the on-line site of the Washington Post site.
Never have heard Philemon. I should look at Footlight to see if they have it. I know of the show but don't know anything from it. I do love some of the individual songs from Celebration also. Like, I"m Glad to See You Got What You Want. And I do agree w/both Tom and George that 110 in the Shade is better than Celebration. I think I like that show most of all. I like the revue of Jones and Schmidt work mentioned before on this here board, The Show Goes On. I have the DRG recording.
I'm here alone this weekend as Ant is on the Island entertaining children. He will be back on Tuesday. I will spend the weekend working on my presentation for Cleveland (have I mentioned that enough???) something I'm not looking forward to. Oh, well, it's part of the job and it will be over on November 20th and from then till November 26 I have only 3 and a half days left at work and I'm done for the year. A month off and two weeks of that month spent in England. That's what I'm aiming for, Christmas in London!
-
Well, TCB, my legs are still one of my best assets so maybe I'll dig up a cheerleader skirt and take a picture. Or I could just put on those tight lycra pants the cheerleader boys wear.
-
I identified with 110 in the Shade. Sounds like an Oz summer. I won't ask if you identify with "Tootsie" but is was a much better movie than "Mrs Doubtfire". Where are the other two Washington State posters? We need a full house.
-
Legs being "one of my best assets" does sound a little odd - Reminder of Dudley Moore's "One Leg Too Few" Tarzan act.
-
I just checked and Mr. Jose has posted only twice since the new board went up. How unseemly. Meanwhile, our Dear French Cousin, François is approaching his full membership. Only 15 or so more posts to go and he will get another star and full membership. And he only posts on the weekends!
You're right, Tom. It does sound odd. My leg is one of my best features or my legs are two of my best features.
-
Okay, Ben, you talked me into it. I would like to change my vote to the tight lycra pants..
-
DR TCB, my reaction to last night's W&G: I was very angered by the Eric/Dylan storyline. Here they've got two wonderfully handsome eligible gay male characters, and they choose to make Dylan SO dysfunctional that we WANT Will to stay single! I wanted to kick those writers from here to eternity (a James Jones reference).
But kudos to the brilliant Blythe Danner who makes every line a gem. She has the most wonderful way of delivering an acerbic zinger with the sweetest smile on her face. Priceless!
Poor John Cleese did the best he could with weak material. And he countered Megan's scene stealing antics with a very underplayed performance that balanced her over-the-top actions and reactions quite well.
All in all, a disappointing episode for me. I had SUCH hopes for a developing romance.
-
Now this is the time to post photgraphs!
-
Actually, Mr. Oz, there are three (3) additional Washingtonians missing this evening..... Jed, George, and the lovely Ann.
-
$150 No problem François. Now for the airfare. Maybe we should book a table. I have the feeling we we all wait for the TV show.
-
I would pay to see pictures of all of you showing off your legs!
Matt H, I agree with your take on last night's W&G. You summed up my thoughts exactly.
Emily, why $13.14 an hour, exactly?
My Jr. Membership is not showing up, but I would guess it has something to do with being on a mirror site..?
-
Sorry TCB. George was here but has jumped ship. (I hope it wasn't a ferry/fairy)
-
Oh nevermind, there it is. Maybe I had to hit 51.
Puuuush!
-
Thanks LC. Now we may all be able to see Dame Julie.
-
Just wanted to say that I will be E&T for most of tomorrow. I'm leaving town to go see a friend play his first leading role ever - in ARSENIC AND OLD LACE - and unless I can read bk's notes and get a quick post in before my ride gets here tomorrow morning, I may not be able to post at all on Saturday. But I'll return Sunday to join in the anniversary celebration.
-
The mirror site reads your number as 25 LC!
-
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]!moT ,LOL[/move]
-
What did you "say" Ben?
That i was a French cuisine?
-
AAAhhhh, Tom!
This is a BENEFIT showing for OPERATION CALIFORNIA,
not to raise money to send more military to.... well, you get my drift!
Of course, we can't afford attending, but those benefits are not for "poor" people like us!
-
Thank you, Matt H.. My reactions to W&G exactly. As soon as I figured out where the writers were going with Dylan's character, I was ready to throw things at the screen. W&G had a chance to take their program to a new level by showing an honest attraction between two attractive men. Instead they made the whole Dylan McDermott appearance a lame joke.
I also agree with you about Blythe Danner. If Debra Messing should opt out of another season, the producers might want to consider moving Miss Danner in on a permanent basis.
-
Sorry TCB. George was here but has jumped ship. (I hope it wasn't a ferry/fairy)
Only if he's cute! :-*
I haven't jumped ship...yet. I'm still at work and refreshing my browser when I get the chance.
-
I had the pleasure of seeing Blythe Danner in "Follies" - she alone was worth the price of the ticket.
DR Jose did say that he would only be home on Mondays. Camelot is keeping him very busy it seems. I hope a few other things are keeping him busy too.
-
LC: Don't ask me about the very precise pay. I KNOW that Parliament itself had to decide on the pay for the youth programs (of which the tour guide program is one) so maybe it came from some backward committee or such.
I know from experience that politicians often get wayyyy too off track on the sticking details! ;)
-
I would definitely pay to see Ben in a cheerleading outfit! :)
-
oohh... page seven everyone!
-
I, too, saw Blythe Danner in the FOLLIES revival (on the Friday before it closed on Saturday, so I lucked out. Ironically, I saw Eric McCormack in THE MUSIC MAN the next day at the matinee - very impressive). She and Gregory Harrison were the high spots for me of the four principals.
-
Tom!
That must have been the production which also had Gregory Harrison and Treat Williams then?
Just asking!
Don't mind me!
It's chilly here at 5:02 am.
I know no one cares to know that, but I felt like saying it!
Ah, Follies! Liaisons! Ooh, la la! Maurice Chevalier, le 14 juillet, les poissons....
Sorry, Got carried away, carried away.....
-
François you crack me up!
t'es fou ;)
-
Girls, are you nuts?
PAY to see male Kimlets' legs!!!
They would not charge at all!
Don't we have mirth and legs on the most popular with the populace set on the international internet???
-
Oh and I have an announcement to make:
As long as I am stuck in the onslaught of a Canadian winter - none of you (with the exception of the fellow Canucks) are allowed to complain about being cold. Ever.
It is SNOWING right now. As I type. There is accumulation. Until Paris is under blizzard conditions - no more "it's so chilly here" talk from François! :)
-
George -- I usually refresh my browser in the privacy of my bedroom.
-
Yes, Emily! I'm crazy as a loon!
I'm loonatic as the moon in my attic...
As a bat in my battic (?)...
Ah, Emily!
Johnny Mandel wrote such a song about you!
Was he crazy about you?
I'm fou as Fifi D'Orsay frolicing in some frilly frock...
-
Indeed it was that production of "Follies" François. I only new Mr Williams from his performance in "The Ritz" (The movie). Despite all the criticisms of the "dark" version of "Follies" I loved it. I saw "The Producers", "Seusical" and "The Lion King" in the same week. It is "Follies" that lasts in the memory and was the show that made me "feel" for the characters.
-
Has "Emily" been "Americanised"?
-
I've lived in Montréal, Emily, so I know what blizzard conditions means!
All of a sudden I feel colder!
I won't "refresh my browser" then!
Warm me up brother!
Je suis fou and proud of it!
-
Tom... I HAVE to get around to watching that movie... I am an insult to the name Emily, I know :(
-
We are back to being tricontinental again!
-
Weren't Treat Williams and Gregory Harrison a little young for those parts in Follies?
-
Just for you, DR Emily... to warm up your heart ... and the rest of your body too!
It needed to Johnnies to write such a lovely ballad!
Writer(s): johnny mercer - johnny mandel
Emily, Emily, Emily
Has the murmuring sound of May
All silver bells, coral shells, carousels
And the laughter of children at play
Say Emily, Emily, Emily
And we fade to a marvelous view
Two lovers alone and out of sight
Seeing images in the firelight
As my eyes visualize a family
They see Emily, Emily
(and we fade to a marvelous view)
Two lovers alone and out of sight
Seeing images in the firelight
As my eyes visualize a family
They see Emily, Emily
Too
-
The story of my live!
I'm courting Emily... and Tom's getting all the attention!
Tabernacle! :'(
-
aw shucks... that makes me feel so loved François...
I'm sure you quote the johnnies to all the girls ;)
Back to essay writing! Provincial Politics I'm out to get you!
Goo'night all! :)
-
I think Treat and Gregory would be great in SUGAR (SOME LIKE IT HOT!)
But then, who asked me?
-
The age didn't bother me just as the "in concert" version guys were too young too. You playing "Oliver" would be more difficult.
-
ooh... but brownie points to F. for the "tabernacle"
although I prefer "hestie" myself when I'm feeling particularly Québécois.
Or better yet: "Hestie-Seigneur-Câlice-Tabernacle" (all at once of course!)
-
We Toms are indeed attention seeking. And both of us from Washington too!
-
What if I was playing with Oliver?
-
Don't think Artful Dodger would approve, TCB!
-
Only if you were Miss Hannigan! I hope you you can artfully dodge out of this conversation! "Annie" is just "Oliver in drag" after all.
-
15 seconds too late for an Artful Dodger quip. Timing is everything. I've made a right nancy of myself now.
-
I know there is no instant reaction but François has reached 100 posts! At least! Congratulations. I am sure you feel so much better knowing that.
-
Oh I don''t know, looking around at all those young orphhan boys, I sometimes start hearing the theme from Death in Venice.
-
I have been dozing off and on since I got home - I'm totally zoned out - stuffed up and all that. So, imagine my surprise and joy to see all these excellent posts, which has cheered me up threefold, which is better than twofold or onefold. I think this calls for some art, don't you? I won this piece on eBay quite some time ago. The artist is named Schumacher and about two weeks after I won it I received an e-mail from someone who'd seen it on eBay and she told me that she'd been the Schumacher's babysitter and had babsat the girl in the painting, Schumacher's daughter. Isn't that neat? The artist was a very-well thought of illustration artist.
Hey, something's WRONG on this 1984 site!!
Big Brother! Help! :-\
The Karma thing doesn't work for me, and me only!
Not fair! Not fair I say!
Police! Help! :'(
"Art For Art's Sake" - a 10CC reference for the Pop music inclined.
TCB: "Death In Venice" is possible my favourite movie of all time with my favourite actor and what wonderful music. Here's to Mahler.
-
At least you can receive them François.
-
NICE painting, BK!
I'm sure it looks like Emily when she was than age -- last month, that is!!
Well, the good "thing"; no one can take karma away from me, but then no one can add karma either!
Oh well, who cares!!
-
It looks added on this side of the world François.
-
Great painting, BK. I imagine you didn't get it for the minimum bid.
-
Karma 13 Post 97. I don't think that was "A Chorus Line" reference.
Time for a post from JED!
-
I hope all these posts are indeed making you feel better BK. You have celebrations to organise for Sunday. Has anyone found a way to download chocolate or at least cheese and ham.
-
Good evening fellow Dear Readers. I'm afraid I have nothing of interest to say today. So I guess you could say today is just like any other. I believe Brigadoon is in the cd player (everything else is packed). No vcr or dvd players.
I shall be absent from the festivities on Sunday night. Big event at the church I must work on.
-
I'm sure your church thing will keep you busy every minute of every hour all day. Not. I should think you will want to at least drop in and say hello, that is what I should think.
Francois - I see your karma points and you most certainly can get karma - what exactly is your question?
-
Oh thank you Tom from Oz!
Now, i'm confused; we might not be able to see applause & boo on ou own posting!
Confused I am, confused I stay!
13! Oh, it's been so long since i was 13!
DVD player: The 4th season of the Sopranos
VCR: Two for the Road (which I hadn't seen in years)
CD player: Stephen Schwartz's "Uncharted Territory"
and a CD of the Sondheim program DR MusicGuy did a week or so ago with some very gifted performers in the Chicago area (Trevor Loren and Scott Thomas among them). I am STILL waiting for the video of said program. I just MAY have to have words.
SUGAR is doing very well and is very loving AND is asserting herself a little more now. I see we have training in store (all three of us).
-
No, it's ok BK. I guess I'm becoming senile! It makes sense, 'cause one could give oneself karma!!
It's been a long -- and chilly! Sorry Emily! -- night!
6:30 am here, to be exact!
GET WELL SOON, BK!
-
How do I change/edit my quote?
-
"Whenever I behold someone who possesses any talent or displays any dexterity of mind, who can do or say something more appropriately than the rest of the world, I am compelled to fall in love with him... (Michelangelo)"
-
Good to hear that Sugar is settling in well. A Sondheim collection by MusicGuy - will it retail. We have a Wurltizer organisation (or whatever the appreciation society is called) not far from here AND they sell Cds of a certain Mr Larson!
DR Laura: Priorities. The church can not expect you for the whole 24 hours.
-
BK,
Thanks for sharing the painting.
-
LOST: I lost all my email addresses but thought I would get most back quite easily from HHW. I have just realised that DR "Sigerson Holmes" has not signed on to the new format. If you indeed "lurk" out there please come in from the cold.
-
Oh "Coming From The Rain"!!
Lovely song and beautiful rendition of it by Eydie Gormé.....imho bien sûr!
Oh, DR RON cracked me up the other day with Gourmet or Gormet... Thought that was so cute!
-
Oh, what a malaise!
Made a boo boo AGAIN!
Come In From the Rain!!!!
Well, hello there
Good old friend of mine
You've been reaching for yourself
For such a long time
There's so much to say
No need to explain
Just an open door for you
To come in from the rain
It's a long road
When you're all alone
And someone like you
Will always through a long way home
There's no right or wrong
I'm not here to blame
I just want to be the one
Who keep you from the rain
From the rain
And it looks like some disguise
Now that I know you're alright
Time has left us older
Wiser, I know I am
'Cause I think of us
Like an old cliche
But it doesn't matter
'Cause I love you anyway
Coming from the rain
And it looks like some disguise
Now that I know you're alright
Time has left us older
But Wiser, I know I am
And it's good to know
My best friend has come home again
'Cause I think of us
Like an old cliche
But it doesn't matter
'Cause I love you anyway
Coming from the rain
Come in from the rain
Come in from the rain
Karma 13 Post 97. I don't think that was "A Chorus Line" reference.
Time for a post from JED!
Ask and ye shall receive, Tom! I'm here to join the late shift with my Washingtonian comrades. I believe DR Ann had a choir concert of some sort tonight, so that's why she's currently among the E&T.
Media report...
DVD: Sondheim - Celebration at Carnegie Hall
VHS: This week's The West Wing
CD: Putting It Together (Manhattan Theatre Club), She Loves Me (OBC), Billy Joel - Fantasies and Delusions
Ron--LOL! I didn't even know there was a difference in the pronunciations of ferry and fairy until a few years ago!
I didn't know until reading today's posts!!! I've always pronounced them the same, as does everybody I've heard say either word here around the Northwest. What the heck is the difference in their pronunciations?
-
Thanks Jed. I guess we will have to cope without DR Ann as she sings for her supper. I would have to starve if it were my only option. TCB has no doubt gone in search of sustenance too.
-
François: It is indeed a beautiful song.
DR Jed: Accents! No-one would ever confuse the two words in Australia. (You know the South western part of Washington State across that big lake).
-
Congratulations François. I see you have joined the grownups.
-
DR Jed: Accents! No-one would ever confuse the two words in Australia. (You know the South western part of Washington State across that big lake).
I must say I'm fascinated to learn that "ferry" and "fairy" are actually pronounced differently! A casualty of my Northwestern US accent, I guess. But really Tom, if you want to pass yourself off as a Washingtonian, you must learn to make no distinction whatsoever between the two words. :D
-
Hey everyone! Sorry to be posting so late but I just got home!
Tom--I too enjoyed Blythe Danner in the Follies revival. I mean, from what I've read, it was nothing to the original production or even the Paper Mill revival, but I loved the score even before seeing it and it was thrilling to see a production of it. Especially with so many great golden age stars in the supporting roles!
Charles--thanks for the info on NKU! I will definitely be looking into it! :D
LC--We did used to have KaZaA Lite, but I've also been afraid to use that ever since I heard it's illegal to have it (as opposed to merely downloading songs it that makes any sense). Maybe when all the pirating frenzy dies down, I'll go back to downloading music. Arrrrgh. ;)
Goodnight!
-
Now to practise: There are ferries at the bottom of my garden. I shall catch a fairy to the other shore. Gerry & the Pacemakers sang "Fairy 'cross The Mersey" and No-one loves a ferry when she's forty. fortunately I am way past 40 so I have chanced of being loved. Thanks for the advice Jed. I shall practise practise practise until those cows of BK's come home. Are merry and Mary pronounced the same way?
-
I wonder Maya what people would have thought of "Follies" had they not seen the orginal. The memory plays tricks (a "The Happy Time" reference) and there was certainly not the financial excesses of the 70's to splash on the show we saw and enjoyed.
-
TCB you have just replaced Jed or are you indeed the same person? This may be a ferryland full of magic.
-
Are merry and Mary pronounced the same way?
You bet they are! Keep on working, Tom! We'll break you of your lovely dialect and convert you to our oh-so-incredibly-bland one in no time!
-
Good night all. (and of course sundried). I have eating and then viewing of a DVD planned for the evening. Thanks for the support from Washington.
-
I was thinking that the celebration was going to be a live chat in the evening, which I would have to miss, as our event is planned for 6 to 9 pm MST. Of course I can log on during the day (after noon) to join the festivities.
-
We are cookin' with gas, baby! Look at us go! We are the bomb! We are the jiggiest!
-
I assume you turned off the gas BK!
