Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the closing night of Tonight's the Night, and now it is time for you to post until the closing night cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DURABLE!

And the word of the day is: DURABLE!
Wasn’t the Hindenburg a DURABLE?

A very un-durable durable. ::)

The parking lot of the condos was somewhat passable, but the ramps I need to get off the sidewalk to the parking lot, and visa versa had not been touched. I couldn’t even go and get yesterday’s mail.

That's too bad. Hopefully, the snow will clear up soon.
-
Topic of the Day: my favorite number was the duet where they sang their two parts at the same time. I like that kind of stuff. I think it was Larry who taught me the word "quodlibet." :)
-
Wow! I will have to give the T.O.D. some more thought. I enjoyed all of them. I suppose it would probably be one of their duets. Let me think about it
-
I know what question I wanted to ask, but Eric wasn’t there so I kind of forgot about it.
When Eric is sitting on the couch, he has his hands clasped together a lot of the time. Eventually his hands are clasped so that they form the heart-shape, which has become so “in” lately. I just wondered if that was an intentional move on his part?
-
I hadn't noticed that, Tom.

I don't think it was intentional. His daughter doing it was, though.

I don’t know why I noticed it, but once I did I couldn’t stop looking at it.

I realized that. Maybe I was just thinking it might be a family trait.

Good night, gentlemen.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Power has gone off at least twice during the night.
-
Not fun when you need it to help you sleep.
-
The ground is covered in snow and ice, according to a quick peak outside.
-
And it’s 10 degrees out there.
-
Supposed to be back up to 70 in a week.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept quite well.
Yes, DR Ginny, I was a night owl, but now that I try to be a semi-responsible parent to my three little kittens the dictates of feeding them between 6:00 and 6:30AM have completely changed my schedule.
-
Actually, it began earlier than that. When I was writing for the Men's Chorus and juggling other jobs with The Drama Book Shop, I found that working at home was best early in the morning before the phone started ringing, so I would get up at 5:30 write until 8:00 and get ready to go into the Book Shop.
-
Project One was really One-derful!
At one hearing, my two favorite numbers were the counterpoint duet and Hartley's ballad about waiting for love.
-
While I was watching, I kept thinking about how Hollywood would screw it up and cast glamorous people like George Clooney and Julia Roberts in the roles. What I liked about the piece was that Eric and Hartley were not "glamorous," and their physical changes of the past twenty years weren't an issue.
-
The harassing emails continue: four in this morning's emails.
-
Good morning, everyone.
-
Thoroughly enjoyed TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT last night. Excited to revisit it again eventually on Blu Ray.
-
I have a foot of snow surrounding my Austin, TX, home this morning.
-
Any Fox News morons here? I'd like to hope not, but here's something to ponder:
-
Page 2 Dance!
-
Monday morning greetings! Last night was dee-lightful and I liked the show even more the second time. Thanks, again, to BK and company!
-
What a lovely show again! And it was glorious seeing so many friends from HHW on the ZOOMER.....
DR GINNY's hairstyle is very attractive!
Everybody looked great.
-
DR CHAS SMITH in my ZOOM set up.....down in the tray at the bottom of the screen there is a CAMERA icon....if you click on the little tab on it you get a selection of things.....
Change background etc.....and one of them is Video Filters. If you check the Filters you get a selection of things including hats, glasses, rabbit ears, etc that you can add to your face.
I also always go to the top right and click to get GALLERY VIEW so that I can see everyone in the group.
-
TOD:
I loved the opening number which tells us exactly who they are and what we're going to get.....only we get a LOT more.
I also liked Hartley's love song - Eric's song about how could I do that when he found out what had happened......and the last duet. Of course the script was so very funny.
-
We only got about 1 1/2 inches of snow last night......but the heaviest is predicted starting about 1 p.m.
We shall see.
-
I ended up with about 5 or 6 inches of snow. The storm took down the covers on the fig and the olive trees. Don’t know if either will survive.
-
Good morning, all.

TOD
The counterpoint duet -- one of the great musical comedy devices, expertly composed and put to great use. But this score overall is Grade A merchandise. Every song works perfectly, and there isn't too little or too much of anything.
I also like what DR Elmore said, which I will paraphrase as both Eric and Hartley looking their parts ... AND the fact of the characters' ages and obvious changes over the twenty years not being an issue in this meeting.
And having gotten somewhat more familiar with Hartley over the past year or so, I thought she showed incredible star qualities in this role. This thing is up close and personal due to its very nature, and I was blown away by what she brought to it.
-
The show held up for me just fine through three viewings, and the Zoom sessions were much fun. We will indeed have to have one of our own sometime.
I was a little surprised that Annabelle didn't join, since...you never know...there could have been an agent in our midst.
-
I'd like to join DR Jrand70 and whoever else has asked that a songbook be made available.
In the opening night Zoom session Richard Allen printed and held up one page of one song. Such a tease! I, for one, would always value having the music for this or any other show. The WELCOME TO MY WORLD book is excellent (right down to the spiral binding!), and I can only step up and say, "Please sir, I want some more."
-
TOD:
I think Hartley’s When You’re Looking for Love got me most yesterday. She really does wonders with the song, at times wistful, at times sad, at times realistic, but ever hopeful.
-
I’ve been reading Dolly Parton’s massive Songteller book, which is a collection of more than 200 of her lyrics plus tons of photos and memorabilia. Think of it as a country version of Robert Kimball’s Cole.
She never had anybody correct her imperfect rhymes, so they probably only bother a purist like me. Her craft is certainly there, but at times she seems to be working from a first draft, as if she couldn’t be bothered to polish anything.
Bottom line: it makes me appreciate the hard work and care in Simply even more than I did last year when I read it several times.
-
TOD: I loved all of it, but as has been mentioned, especially the two "interior" songs, one sung by each character apart from the other. Also love the opening number, the closing number, and the counterpoint number. But really, they're all great.
-
And Hartley's character is a bit caustic at first, but you learn why, and the "kid" is the leavening agent.
-
I wonder if you could have had a quartet with the bubble effect! Probably logistically quite difficult.
-

I'll drink to that! I don't think she's ever looked so pretty in her Kritzerland numbers. She's really quite lovely.
-
I wonder if you could have had a quartet with the bubble effect! Probably logistically quite difficult.
That was my favorite number and I liked that the "real" He and She were silent. I felt like there was some growth in their new relationship while we were hearing their inner voices.
That sequence reminded me of a one-act we did when I was in high school. It was called "Overtones" and featured a couple of high-toned ladies having tea together. While they were being very mannerly and cordial, their alter-egos were behind them engaging in a verbal cat fight. I played one of the "ladies."
-
I was a little surprised that Annabelle didn't join, since...you never know...there could have been an agent in our midst.
I was frankly surprised that neither she nor Thatch jumped onto the computer table for some affection. She lay in my director's chair and Thatch kept walking past me and grabbing my knee (those claws!) for attention.
-
What a lovely show again! And it was glorious seeing so many friends from HHW on the ZOOMER.....
I agree, on both counts, and hope we can have an HHW Zoom event some time!
DR GINNY's hairstyle is very attractive!
Thanks, DR JRand. There are good days and bad days...
Everybody looked great.
They certainly did!
-
You know the weather predictions are serious when Miami University closes all campuses. They're closed from noon today to 1pm tomorrow.
-

I am sorry and not really surprised. Our sidewalks have not been shoveled, only enough room for the cars has been plowed. There is only one cleared guest parking spot, and that is because a car was parked there during the snow storm.
-

I hope it isn't icy up there. Maybe it is best to stay inside another day.
-
Keith is scheduled for his 2nd vaccination this morning. We will go a little late since the clinic, which should have opened at 7:00, was postponed until 9:00. Hopefully it really will be opened by then.
-
BK, this Hansel and Gretel from Scottish Opera is so misguided you will bne apoplectic. The Witch thinks she's Carmen Miranda!

Good luck. Stay safe from falls.

I ended up with about 5 or 6 inches of snow. The storm took down the covers on the fig and the olive trees. Don’t know if either will survive.
I am glad you aren't as bad as the headlines regarding Texas. I hope your trees will survive.
-
Thanks DR JANE - I don't plan on going out once I bring the garbage can back up from the street......about 5 p.m.
-
DR ELMORE that clip was awful......I skipped around in it.....

Coworkers have reported being without power for nine hours.
-
The Andrea Marcovicci Kern cabaret is a half hour and it has been posted for regular viewing.

Three!

Kids are now sledding down our street.
Haven't seen this since I was a kid in Seattle when I would sled down our street.
-
Good Morning - I'm bummed to have missed last night's performance as I thought it was at 6:00pm.... anyway, I loved it the first time I saw it. Home for the holiday today. Enjoying the boys!
-
Kenneth Leighton wrote wondrous organ and choral music. I am not familiar with his opera, Columba. It does not appear to have been recorded.
-
Coworkers have reported being without power for nine hours.
Vibes your power stays on.
-
We briefly lost power at 7:30 this morning, and again some time while we were out this morning.
-
Kids are now sledding down our street.
Haven't seen this since I was a kid in Seattle when I would sled down our street.
I remember fun snow days when the kids were young.
-
By arriving an hour late for Keith's appointment we missed the crowd of people after the delayed opening.
The woman who gave him his vaccination told him how sick she was with the second one, including hallucinating. I hope he is no worse than after his first one. So far all is good.
-
Getting there was nerve wracking. At times it felt like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride where we also picked up a 4 foot branch that stayed with us for the next 6 miles.
-
The drive home was easier, still we were very glad to pull into the garage.
-
Hot water is off here
-
No shower for you ;)
-
Hot water is off here
What in the HELL is going on down there, anyway?
(Yes, I know. But I've never heard of all this nightmarish stuff going on in winter in the south.)
-
I'm up, I'm up - a bit over eight hours of sleep.
-
Enjoying your comments!
-
Richard has already begun the sheet music book stuff. That could be ready in a few weeks, I think.
-
Have to go to the mail place anyway - UPS delivered today - it's a screener of some sort.
-
Good afternoon!
-
Lots of very fine blowing snow here right now.....power still on....no street sledding but folks getting home are having difficulty getting ALL the way up their driveways.
-
I do not know if the garbage will be collected today.....but my can is on the street - so to speak.
-
I trudged all the way to the mailbox before remembering that today is a holiday. It’s all the way up to 27 degrees.
-
I wanted 5o watch again last night but one thing led to another and I missed it
-
I will have to wait fir the blu ray
-
The song Eric sang about the woman moving in made me laugh out loud
-
I spent the morning printing out all of my Paypal receipts for 2020 and the afternoon dividing them into categories and putting them into envelopes. Tomorrow, the Amazon receipts.
-
Richard and I have finally taken down our Christmas tree - just in time for Lent!
-
Up from a nap.
-
Have dusted, vacuumed, and am now roasting veggies and making soup.
-
Oh DR VIXMOM I forgot about that song.....yes that was a good one too.
-
Trash can has been retrieved. Lots of snow blowing and very cold....and still falling snow.....
So it's headed your way DR GINNY!
-
Back from picking up not one screener but a whole batch in one package, not a one of which I've seen.
-
Trash can has been retrieved. Lots of snow blowing and very cold....and still falling snow.....

We had pretty snow earlier, but it’s changed to sleet and freezing rain. They’ve reduced our projected snow depth, but now we’re having an ice storm. I’d prefer snow.
-
I trudged all the way to the mailbox before remembering that today is a holiday. It’s all the way up to 27 degrees.
You got your exercise ;)
-
People were out walking this afternoon. Since I only had a mile left to walk I stayed inside. I am sure there are still icy spots out there.
-
So.....
Did anyone buy a mattress today? :)
-
The kitchen is a veritable hub of activity. I've got the oven, the stovetop, and the pressure cooker going.
-
Up from a nap. Have to figure out dinner now.
-
I like a veritable hub now and then.
-
Just ate some leftover Mystic Pizza. Yum.
-
It's Zeffirelli week at the MetOpera.org. Tomorrow is Fastaff.
I think i want to watch his Don Giovanni on Friday.

Cav/Pag on Wednesday, with Troyanos, Domingo, and Stratas.
Yes to Don Giovanni.
And a 1997 Carmen on Saturday that I may not have seen.
Thank you. A very good week.
-
I’ve heard some of those broadcasts but haven’t seen the videos. This is excellent.
-
Just ate some leftover Mystic Pizza. Yum.
I ate there once when we lived in Connecticut.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Stay safe and warm to all of you experiencing bad weather.
-
Bruce, is When You're Waiting for Love a new song? I seem to recall a similar title from many years ago.
-
Where did you live in CT, DR Jane?
I have lived in Norwalk, Weston, and Bethel.
-
I knew from A CAROL CHRISTMAS that Eric had a good voice, but it's better than I knew. He's quite a good actor, too. Hartley, of course, I knew from A CAROL CHRISTMAS also and knew what she could do.
-
John G, I posted about SEASIDE HOTEL a few nights ago. I'll probably watch another episode, but I haven't really warmed to it yet.
-
TTFN.
-
Where did you live in CT, DR Jane?

Woodbridge. We were only there for a year.
-
We ate lots of pizza from New Haven.
-
Where did you live in CT, DR Jane?

I remembered that, but not the Bethel part. Whereabouts?
-
You would have been close to each other.
-
And I wouldn't have been too far away.
-
John G, I posted about SEASIDE HOTEL a few nights ago. I'll probably watch another episode, but I haven't really warmed to it yet.
I must have missed that. Thanks and sorry.

Onward ...
-
Five!
-
Tomorrow is pancake day and this is the recipe I've chosen:

I'm thinking of adding blueberries.
-

That is is.
-
They're already talking about us not being able to work tomorrow because of continued power outages.
My friend Bonnie in San Angelo doesn't have power, but the other side of the street does. That has to hurt.
-
I remembered that, but not the Bethel part. Whereabouts?
We owned a condo in the Kingswood development, on top of the hill. Quite close to downtown.
-
~~~SUPER DUPER VIBES~~~ to all those affected by unseasonal winter weather!
-
The kitchen is only partially cleaned up, but to bed I go! Good night, everyone.
Oh man, I loved that place and would like to have rented there when I first moved here, but the deal with that condo owner didn’t work out. I ended up in Crow’s Nest up the next hill in Danbury, where I lived happily for the next 2-1/2 years.
-
Heated pots of green water and did dishes. Now it’s back to Dolly Parton.
-
Good night, all
-
Jeanne, Eric wasn't in A Carol Christmas. And yes, When You're Waiting for Love is an older song that just happened to fit perfectly. So is She's Moving In, which I wrote for my cabaret act but that no one had ever heard outside of the two or three times I did it - I also talk about it extensively in the book of lyrics because I always felt I failed the song in the ending of it. I end by saying, maybe someday I'll fix it and get it right, and for Tonight's the Night I did - the new ending came quite by surprise during a shower and it just worked perfectly as a capper.
-
Watched one movie and most of another but am taking a break.
I've always loved "When You're Waiting for Love." Hartley sang it wonderfully. ;D
What I liked about the piece was that Eric and Hartley were not "glamorous," and their physical changes of the past twenty years weren't an issue.
Exactly. The characters are essentially real people with typical real people issues. They're not glamorous people. It would be like Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. Edie Falco and Stanley Tucci were in the original Broadway production, but when they made the movie, they cast Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino.
-
This is weird...when I went to www.ibdb.com (http://www.ibdb.com) to look up the original Broadway production (https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-production/frankie-and-johnny-in-the-clair-de-lune-13328), it was taking a long time to get to the page, so I clicked on the page for the revival. That came up without any trouble, but when the original Broadway page finally came up, I literally got this. This is the entire page:
Last year, my friend Mark started up a vocal workshop and I went to a couple of sessions. He used to have these years ago, and I was involved for several years before he moved back to California. We had only two, maybe three sessions this time, and then everything shut down. :P Hopefully, he'll be able to start it back up again.
-
Anyway, I was planning on singing three of BK's songs! "When You're Waiting for Love," "Everything is Gonna Be All Right" (from Welcome To My World) and "Two Roads," cowritten with Richard M. Sherman. :)
I know my version of "When You're Waiting for Love" won't hold a candle to Hartley, but I'll give it my spin. ;)
-
I knew from A CAROL CHRISTMAS that Eric had a good voice, but it's better than I knew. He's quite a good actor, too. Hartley, of course, I knew from A CAROL CHRISTMAS also and knew what she could do.
Eric was in A CAROL CHRISTMAS? What did he play?
By arriving an hour late for Keith's appointment we missed the crowd of people after the delayed opening.
The woman who gave him his vaccination told him how sick she was with the second one, including hallucinating. I hope he is no worse than after his first one. So far all is good.
Oh, my goodness! I hadn't heard any kind of side effects like that! :-\
The Andrea Marcovicci Kern cabaret is a half hour and it has been posted for regular viewing.
Nice! The first suggested video that shows up for me is this rare 2004 TV interview, filmed in black and white with Skip E. Lowe:
Richard has already begun the sheet music book stuff. That could be ready in a few weeks, I think.
That's great!
People were out walking this afternoon. Since I only had a mile left to walk I stayed inside. I am sure there are still icy spots out there.
Jane, if there was one small 3’ X 3’ patch of ice left in the entire state of Washington, you would slip on it.😜
Very likely. I certainly did just that on a well shoveled driveway years ago. ::) ;D
Jeanne, Eric wasn't in A Carol Christmas. And yes, When You're Waiting for Love is an older song that just happened to fit perfectly. So is She's Moving In, which I wrote for my cabaret act but that no one had ever heard outside of the two or three times I did it - I also talk about it extensively in the book of lyrics because I always felt I failed the song in the ending of it. I end by saying, maybe someday I'll fix it and get it right, and for Tonight's the Night I did - the new ending came quite by surprise during a shower and it just worked perfectly as a capper.
Thank you, Bruce. I thought I was going crazy.
Maybe she was exaggerating.
That's pretty cool about "She's Moving In."
Hopefully all the snow and ice will be totally gone by tomorrow.
The first time I heard "When You're Waiting for Love" was in 2004 in BK's What If? revue (https://youtu.be/Ku7PzWGhhB4). I love Alet's interpretation, too.
-
I think I liked the four solos by Eric and Hartley, plus the last duet.
-
But I loved every song in the show.
-
Now I can’t wait for Project 2.
