Well, you're read the notes, the notes served afternoon tea and cucumber sandwiches, and now it is time for you to post until the afternoon cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DARG!
-
And yes, imdb completely wrong on Pay or Die - which opened on August 3rd right after my return from St. Louis and yes I saw it at the Wiltern. The following week, I saw Psycho on its opening day.
-
Three days after Psycho, I saw Around the World in Eighty Days at the Stadium Theater.
-
Meanwhile at the Hollywood Bowl, Dorothy Kirsten was doing Madame Butterfly. And oh the shows I missed in my non-theater going days - Li'l Abner, Judy Holiday in Bells Are Ringing, Flower Drum Song - I should have been taken to every one of those shows, but alas my parents weren't those parents. Can you even imagine. Plus incredible dramas and comedies at the Biltmore and Huntington Hartford with big stars direct from Broadway. In fact, that very week I was seeing Psycho I could have seen The Best Man at the Hartford and The World of Suzie Wong at the Biltmore.
-
Oh, and that very same week I also saw Ocean's 11 at the Wiltern, probably a day or two after Psycho.
-
Psycho did so much business that first week, it moved from the small El Rey on Wilshire to the huge Wilshire Theater (where The Sound of Music would play). That was VERY unusual - no one expected it to go through the roof like it did.
-
Oh, and the second feature with Ocean's 11 was Platinum High School.
-
So George, as I started to ask you last night:
Hypothetically, if someone so desired, is it possible to record on a DVD something off of those streaming services?
-
Meanwhile, a pint of Thrifty ice cream was nineteen cents.
-
Last week of August saw The Crowded Sky at the Wiltern, the weak second cousin of The High and the Mighty.
-
And The Subterraneans at the Beverly - well, half of it, as my mother dragged me out of the theater when something racy happened.
-
So George, as I started to ask you last night:
Hypothetically, if someone so desired, is it possible to record on a DVD something off of those streaming services?
Tom, I sent you a PM, but here's a shorter version of my answer for others who may wonder:
I don't know how to capture videos from streaming services. I can capture YouTube videos, but not from pay streaming services. I don't know some people it, but they do and have shared, and I've benefited from their technical abilities.
-
Last week of August saw The Crowded Sky at the Wiltern, the weak second cousin of The High and the Mighty.
Efrem and Troy?
-
And on Saturday of that final week, The Apartment at the Stadium. I was a busy little moviegoer.
-
First week of September, Psycho is held over for a fifth week, unheard of in a wide run. Yes, Efrem and Troy and Patsy Kelly.
-
Just opened at the Biltmore - A Taste of Honey with Joan Plowright and Angela Lansbury.
-
And on Saturday of that final week, The Apartment at the Stadium. I was a busy little moviegoer.
And did you have a burger and fries before each one of them?
-
Good night, gentlemen.
-
September 21, High Time opens at the Village - I saw it there several weeks prior at a sneak preview and would return at least twice during its run at the Village.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Meanwhile, the amateur theater company, The Toluca Lake Players in Toluca Lake open Gidget, starring a new teen actress called Linda Henning. Soon she'd go on to star in Petticoat Junction.
-
Song without End opens at the Stanley Warner Beverly Hills and I'd see it during its second week.
-
BK, it still amazes me that you can remember all the movies that you've seen and where you saw them. I can barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday. ::)
-
Let's Make Love goes wide after its run at the Chinese and plays the Fox Wilshire, where, on Friday night, I see it with a sneak preview of a Brigitte Bardot movie, Come Dance With Me. My mother drags me out of there when the leading man puts his hand on Ms. Bardot's breast. But I'm wrong on this because it only played the Wilshire for a week but something isn't jibing somewhere. Let's Make Love was also at the Village and they did have a preview that Friday. Hmmm.
-
The Sunday Times has over 500 pages.

How scandalous!! :o
;)
-
And on that note (C#), I must get to bed. It's a work day, and I have reports to compile so that checks can be printed and sent to the library's vendors.
Good night, BK, and have a good day, all!
-
And Come Dance With Me did open at the Wilshire so maybe that's why I'm mixed up?
-
But on Friday night October 21 I saw Bells Are Ringing at the Stadium and that I remember as if it was yesterday.
-
Week of November 16, Midnight Lace at the Picwood. Once Upon a Mattress with Dody Goodman and Buster Keaton is at the Biltmore.
-
The following week I see and love Man in a Cocked Hat with Peter Sellers on a double bill with Fernandel as "Big Chief".
-
At the Shrine - Bruno Walter and Van Cliburn.
-
Good morning to all.
-
Why am I up so early? I’m off to get my second eye operation. This one is on the left eye. I will be able to see clearly now.
-
For Christmas vacation, I immediately see Cinderfella at the Picwood. Don't like it much.
-
And Magnificent Seven at the Stadium.
-
And to close out the year, I see Where the Boys Are at the Four Star and have my first kiss in the back row with Betty Breemer (who I'm still in touch with every now and then). I had just turned thirteen on the 8th.
-
My first two films of 1961, early January, are Inherit the Wind at the Stadium, and then the roadshow 70mm Exodus at the Wilshire.
-
Followed a week later by Village of the Damned at the Stadium.
-
Whew!
-
Oh, and on my twelfth birthday in December of 1959, given the option of taking friends to any movie of my choice, what do I choose? The Angry Red Planet at the Four Star.
-
Good morning, all!
-
This morning is my 2020 tax date with my accountant. Pray for Rosemary's Baby!
-
DR JohnG, look for a We Transfer email today.
-
Thatch does something that I have never seen any other cat do: when he approaches his water dish, he very gently puts a front paw into the dish to check the water level(?) before he drinks. He is such a darling, fastidious little boy.
-
Time for kitty cleanup!
-
Good morning, everyone.
-
Open the door... for your Mystery Date.

~~~TAX VIBE$~~~ for DR elmore3003!
-
~~~EYE VIBES~~~ for DR Michael!
-
Good morning, all.
-
David Raksin was very generous with his time and knowledge. He participated in a few film seminars and other events that I attended, and was always the gentleman.
-
As for the rest of the notes -- If it's all right with y'all, I'm going to go back to 1959 and do it all right this time.
-
So, the Kirk Browning Curse claims another victim: Streetcar.
I watched another Met production the other day that was his. What the hell was it? Oh yes. Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. Shorthand synopses over still photographs throughout the preludes of each opera, and nothing but close-ups of the conductor through the Intermezzo and whatever else he deigned to allow us back into the opera house for. Mind you, I like the conductor. I also like a pit full of some of the best musicians around.
All of BK's other objections apply as well -- the dearth of establishing shots, etc. Wouldn't it be nice if outtakes existed for all of these productions and they could be reedited? Anyway, I need to get into that Streetcar. I have the CD, not the DVD.
-
Context, baby. We need context.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Vibes for Michael.
-
We can't leave it here.
-
When we're so close
-
to PAGE THREE!!!
-
Thank you in advance, Elmore. I have to check out anything lije that on my personal computer, so at lunch or after work.
-
I posted a link to the new Cadbury commercial the other day. The controversy over it is so funny. And the response from one of the guys is wonderful.

Eye vibes for DR MICHAEL.
Tax Vibes for DR ELMORE.
Interview vibes for MR BK.
-
I enjoyed the notes and reading about all the movies.
-
Thanks DR JANE & DR JEANNE - the weather is fine today.....and I expect the appointment to go well this afternoon.
-
I shall have to think about the TOD.
Sophie Tucker, of course.
I lot of those folks were on Ed Sullivan now and then and I usually didn't appreciate what they did.....mostly I thought.....what the hell are they doing?
-
TOD:
W.C. Fields
Burns and Allen
Ethel Merman
Mae West
Victor Moore
Kaye Ballard doing Sophie Tucker (I don’t know Tucker enough)
-
Monday morning greetings! It's very melty here and our snow should be gone in a couple of days.
-
I watched episode one of Farrow vs. Allen last night - and then I had nightmares.
-
Well, the gods are smiling on me today. I will get around $2,000 back from the IRS, but I owe New York State around $175.00. I am very happy at the moment. I hope they keep smiling on my MRI meeting on Thursday!
-
CONGRATULATIONS, SIR!
-
And yes it is snowing, thank you for asking.
We don't seem to be able to have two consecutive days without it.
-
CONGRATULATIONS, SIR!
And more congratulations.
-
Good morning - it's business as usual after a fantastic birthday weekend.
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven-and-a-half hours of sleep. The fellow who I was going to postpone for picking up CDs showed up at eleven and woke me out of a sound sleep. That wasn't fun.
-
He's gone now. Interview is cancelled and will be rescheduled shortly.
-
Re the Farrow vs. Allen doc - won't go near it. A complete hatchet-job from start to finish. Filmmakers with an agenda who did not talk to anyone on Woody's side of things, which is reprehensible. I'm sick of the vilification of this man who has never been charged with a crime (and Dylan could STILL do so, so why hasn't she, I wonder), who was found innocent by two separate investigations, took and passed a lie detector test while Farrow wouldn't (gee, wonder why), and do you think the state of NY would have allowed Allen and Soon-Yi to adopt two children had the state found a hint of anything? No, they would not.
-
Very very happy for DR elmore3003!
-
Well, you're read the notes, the notes served afternoon tea and cucumber sandwiches, and now it is time for you to post until the afternoon cows come home.
I love a British afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches and scones.
-
Why am I up so early? I’m off to get my second eye operation. This one is on the left eye. I will be able to see clearly now.
Best wishes you heal quickly and your vision is perfect.
-
Thanks DR JANE & DR JEANNE - the weather is fine today.....and I expect the appointment to go well this afternoon.
Good.

The entire situation is sad. I do think Dylan believes it happened which is terrible because it probably didn't happen.

I had my second Moderna vaccination this morning.
Cool. How’s your arm?
-
Boil water advisory is still in effect for my area. It’s been lifted for much of the rest of tge city.
-
Murphy’s law, don’t you know.

This is the time of day when the bird shrieks like crazy and the neighborhood dogs are barking up a storm.

Onward

Four!

I had my second Moderna vaccination this morning.

So far about like last time. I am also sleeping, a bit more than last time. That could be that I don't feel well but I think it is unrelated to the vaccine, just my recurring back & stomach ache with really bad timing.
-

It is a good think you have water to boil and bottled water for drinking.
-
Murphy’s law, don’t you know.
Yup ;D

This is the time of day when the bird shrieks like crazy and the neighborhood dogs are barking up a storm.
Oh my, time for ear plugs ;)
-
Do you remember former DR Noel Katz? He's now been added to the long list of us receiving the harassing emails.
-
Congrats to DR ELMORE on the largesse.....
-
I will be interested to hear DR JANE's reactions to the second vaccine shot in the next few days!
-
Thanks to the patented HHW vibes, my dental appointment went very well......I shall get my new bottom choppers on March 4 - and they will be most welcome.
-
Instapots gonna pot...
-
Great news, DR Jrand70!
-
Great news, DR Jane!
-
I liked DR JOHN G's list of old timey powerhouse performers.....
I came along at the last gasp of them.....still trying to remember some others I might have seen on the TeeVee.
-
I think someone should re-record the disco song "Last Dance" as "Last Gasp."
-
Thanks to the patented HHW vibes, my dental appointment went very well......I shall get my new bottom choppers on March 4 - and they will be most welcome.
Excellent!
-
I just tried the Marie Callender CHicken Alfredo Bowl for dinner.
I give it 4 of 5 stars.
440 calories.....enough for dinner......microwaved in 6 minutes.....a bit chalky - but NO cleanup and no delivery fees.
-
I will be interested to hear DR JANE's reactions to the second vaccine shot in the next few days!
I will let you know.

Wonderful. I hope you are very happy with them.
-
Great news, DR Jane!
Thanks.
-
I briefly napped. I still relaxed with a heating pad soothing my stomach. I still believe this is not a side effect to the vaccine.
-
Instead of sleeping I finished reading the delightful memoir This Time Next Year We'll Be Laughing Jacqueline Winspear .
I especially recommend it to fans of the Masie Dobbs books.
-
In revenge, after too many people took my posts regarding Keith's side effects seriously, he put this under my FB that I have been vaccinated.
"Keith here. I've decided to return the favor and chronicle Jane's brush with eternity as her immune system battles the Moderna spike protein. Currently, she's demonstrating fatigue and bossiness. So, no change really. I'll keep posting as long as I can; perhaps another five minutes before she hides my keyboard."

Right. I get more of an impression of her from imitators than from her recordings. I don’t know if they were censored or she needed an audience, but they’re fairly innocuous.
-
I liked DR JOHN G's list of old timey powerhouse performers.....

Thanks. From early TV days, I would add Sid Caesar.

Watching a kind of wWI Christmas story called All Is Calm. Great music, but the cast’s accents are all over the place. It’s better when they sing than speak.
-
Internet is down and they say it might not be back until ten thirty
-
Good night, everyone!
-
Good luck with the internet Bruce.
-
I think we are finally going to watch the ALL CREATURES AND SMALL Christmas episode.
-
If I don't return later it will mean that I got lucky and the vaccine put me to sleep for the night :)
-
It's back and let's hope it stays back!

Connection vibes for BK.

Connection vibes for BK.
~~~Ditto!!~~~
And now, I'm off. I'm going to stop by my sister's for a bit (no light fixture installing, though), then I want to do a little shopping (I need some diet Pepsi...I'm almost out at work!), then home.
Be back later.
-
Watched a fascinating PBS documentary on the TV series Soul! Couldn’t take my eyes from the screen. Dancers like Carmen de Lavallade (sp?), writers including James Baldwin, musical performers (Patti LaBelle, Al Green, Stevie Wonder), politicians, actors. The poet Nikki Giovanni was a big part of the show, and they interviewed her today. I remember interviewing her about 35 years ago, which would have been 10 years after the show. It was a phone interview. We talked for about an hour. But i got to meet her in person for a brief minute later.
-
Good night, all.
-
I hope I can sleep as I am cold and have 100degree temp, something that rarely happens.
-
Socks on my freezing feet has really helped.
-
DR John since I can't sleep I have begun reading THE FOUR WINDS.
-
I hope I can sleep as I am cold and have 100degree temp, something that rarely happens.
New Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is going to be on Late Night with Seth Meyers tonight.
-
Actually, it's tomorrow's episode, but it'll be on in an hour.
