Well, you've read the notes, you know all the things we're celebrating on this celebratory day, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which might just be thirty years from today.

Jackie Wayne aka KXN's Jack Salvatore - sent me a couple of pictures from his performing days.  He was one of the teen agers in the first tour of BYE BYE BIRDIE, and also appeared in the show with Selma Diamond in stock.

He also played "the Kid" in DAMN YANKEES and sent a nice photo of the cast taken shortly before Gwen left.

Most of my "cult" favorites are of the sci-fi variety that have several fans.

I would guess that one film that I like that is NOT so well known or liked would be SHOCK TREATMENT, which is the sequel to ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.  It has been mentioned here before.  I really like the score!  And the premise is very funny.

Here is the link to the home page. Click on Listen Again and you can have a weekly radio dose of your beloved Bollywood!

I mentioned this film a couple of days ago. I don't know if it's a cult film in the genre of Rocky Horror or the like but I know that many people have never heard of it. The movie is The Ruling Class and it stars the wonderful Peter O'Toole.

TFNM deserves every bit of success it has had over the years.  Of the over 300 DVDs in my collection (some of which I have never had the time to watch) it is still the most played.  And all the success that BK has had stems from that wonderful film.

9:00 am!  Oy!  I really slept in this morning.  My body refused to move at 7:00 am, and now I've lost a couple of hours.  Today's a work at home day for me:  I've got to get most of my homework done before the surgery, since most of June and July will be occupied with getting (hopefully) BABES IN TOYLAND ready for release and THE GOLDEN APPLE ready for concert.

DRAnn, so what is the job?   Did you tell us your new career move and I missed it?

DRGeorge, I believe DRFrancois is also a fan of the new cast recording.

DRMattH, I beg to differ with you about Miss Lansbury on LAW & ORDER; I didn't believe for one second the woman was blind to her son's actions.  She was pure evil and aware of everything, probably behind the painting of epithets on the walls of the raped girl's apartment.

Dear Friend BK, I am thrilled to be sharing the 30th anniversary of one of my favorite movies, which was the reason I first called you.  Of course, I didn't see it until August, 1979, at the 94th Street Thalia; I'm not suire I was even aware of it before Aug. 1979, but it's certainly my favorite cult film.

Happy Birthday George!

Oddly, that has become a real catchphrase since my trip to Canada. The groom-to-be was called onto the stage for a dance for what I'll call a bit of burlesque. At some point late in the "routine", the p.a. announcer is going on in French, saying something none of us can understand, which he concludes with, "Happy Birthday, George!!"

Something had gotten lost in the translation as my pal's name is Josh, and it was not his birthday. Of course, he became "George" from that point on.

But to DR George, a sincere Happy Birthday!

Cult films. Well, something like VALLEY OF THE DOLLS was too big a hit in its day to be called a true cult film, but it has become one over the years due to its camp value.

I guess THIS IS SPINAL TAP would also be my choice or, if it counts, MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL.

I never really got into the cult movies that used to play the midnight circuit: HAROLD & MAUDE, KING OF HEARTS, ROCKY HORROR, KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE.

Oh, yeah, she was definitely evil!  Perhaps not so wicked as her role in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, but that maternal sweetness she put in on public was quite an act.

DR MattH RE: ALIAS (don't read if you don't want to know).

I'm curious which part you were referring to (the interesting developments from last night's show).

I actually enjoyed the episode very much.  Especially the scene with Jack and Syd in the kitchen.  It made me teary!

And btw, I was extremely unhappy to see a healthy Jack in upcoming previews.  Granted I gathered he wasn't going anywhere.  But still, I don't think they should have done that!

Btw2, did anything happen between the part when Sophia was at the safe to when Nadia & boyfriend walked in.   I was changing tapes, so all I saw was Sophia and glasses guy breaking in, and then next second Nadia and boyfriend were coming in.

LOL! That's exactly why CHITTY CHITTY is there instead of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, though I read it's playing until September, but I wasn't taking any chances. The cast recording of PIAZZA will have to suffice.

BTW, SPAMALOT was the hardest to get tickets for without question. I got 2nd row for SPELLING BEE (though in the Circle in the Square, that's probably no great accomplishment.), 4th row for CHITTY, and 10th row for SCOUNDRELS.

ALIAS spoilers

DR Jennifer, I was referring to Jack's hallucinations early in the show making us think he was in a real clinic getting treatment instead of in a dingy warehouse injecting himself. That took me totally by surprise. Then, bringing in the doctor who he was hallucinating about (albeit a much older looking version of him, an inspired stroke) after that elaborate set-up where Sydney played her mother to get Jack to reveal the doctor's whereabouts. Very usual episode.

Yep, Garner and Garber played that scene beautifully.

One of the by-products of the remake of THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE is that idiot reviewers have now begun to write that Angela Lansbury played Eleanor Iselin - when of course in the book and the original (superior) film, the character NEVER was referred to by a first name, but always as Mrs. Iseling OR Raymond's mother.

So Many Big Actors, So Few Tony Slots By JESSE McKINLEY

Very interesting NY Times article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/04/theater/newsandfeatures/04tony.html?

Here's a bit of it:
Take the Hollywood names in the running: James Earl Jones ("On Golden Pond"), Denzel Washington ("Julius Caesar"), Alan Alda ("Glengarry Glen Ross"), John C. Reilly ("A Streetcar Named Desire"), Jeff Goldblum and Billy Crudup (both from "The Pillowman"). Add to that list respected stage actors like James Naughton and Richard Thomas (both from "Democracy"), Adam Arkin ("Brooklyn Boy"), Bill Irwin ("Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"), Boyd Gaines and Philip Bosco (two of the "Twelve Angry Men"), and Brian F. O'Byrne ("Doubt"), and you have more than a dozen leading men for five slots.

I first became aware of TFNM when many years ago I read the infamous movie magazine article about Cindy Williams' "nudie" past, and what man would have her now....

I then read about it in Danny Peary's Cult Films book - then found a video in a $5 bin - so I purchased it.  This was sometime in the 1980's, I would guess.  I didn't watch it for quite some time, but when I did, I laughed so hard, I watched it again.

Fast forward to being on the site for awhile, and TFNM DVD 2-disk set arrived, and I bought my very own AUTOGRAPHED copy!  The commentaries and documentary are as funny as the movie!

Question, did any Idol fans see the PrimeTime expose on Paula Abdul?
I just fast forwarded through it.  And while I find Corey Clark to be slightly creepy and not that credible, I think that he backed up his story fairly well.

His friends knew about it and met Paula.  His parents knew and his mom spoke to her.  They were at a club together.  The sprint guy remembered paula buying corey a phone (and going to the store together).  Corey had phone logs (which i presume were proven to be to her phone number).  And he had messages left by her on his cell.

Anybody have any idea what is gonna happen to Paula now?

The story follows the likeable, if slightly shallow, high school student Jack Patterson in his quest to defeat his opponent for student council president. Jack's main problem is that kids in the school don't think he's as smart as the other candidate. In an attempt to prove them wrong, Jack takes up a dare from a teacher to teach the class about John Kennedy. Through the help of a dedicated librarian and other friends, Jack spends a night finding out about the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs... and more than a little about leadership and himself.

HAPPY B-DAY, GEORGE.  I looked and looked for you in the background of Antiques Roadshow, but never saw you.

My TFNM Story:  Well, believe it or not, there is a great synchronicity in how I first became aware of BK's film.  I went to see a double feature at a little art house here in Portland.  That double feature would change my life forevermore.  It was the Jessica Lange feature Frances coupled with Frances' own Come and Get It.  Upon leaving the theater in the window box outside was the one sheet for the next attraction.  You guessed it:  The First Nudie Musical!!

Has it been thirty years of nudity already? Time flies when you're naked.

What am I talking about? I had to get up so early after only four hours of sleep that I don't even know what I'm saying any more. Scary to think that I just finished up taking an essay test. I got to school to take my first final and went over to the quickie mart to get a Cherry Coke, only to find out that it didn't open for another half hour. So I sat on the sidewalk for half an hour waiting.

Happy birthday, Dear Reader George! May your day be filled with Cherry Coke that you don't have to sit on a sidewalk for half an hour for.

Like Michael Jackson, probably nothing.

Happy B'day, George!

Happy Anniversary, BK!

BK, do you ever wonder what might have happened if you had taken Roger Corman's offer?  Do you think you might have ended up in his stable of directors, cranking out low-budget horrors and biker films and working your way up to esteemed auteur like Coppola and others did?

I'll have to think about counter-culture films...don't know if I have any...though I liked Ben's choice of THE RULING CLASS...But is it a counter-culture movie?  Probably for Britain.

DRJennifer, I believe Michael Jackson will be acquitted, even though I think he's a mess and totally guilty.  I believe Ms Abdul is equally guilty, not of child molestation or pedophilia, but of lack of ethics and probably lack of taste.  Do I believe she'll be bounced off the moronic AMERICAN IDOL?  Probably not, although she deserves to be.

Good Afternoon!

The local, production of Seussical that I saw this morning - 10:15AM curtain(?!?!?) - was wonderful.  They really pulled out all the stops in regards to the set, costumes and lighting.  The pit was great.  And, best of all, and most importantly the cast was great!  It was comprised of a bunch of the "Richmond All-Stars" as well as some wonderful new faces and voices.

I ended up with a seat in the front row.  Center.  It was a student matinee so the rest of the theatre was full, but they were able to squeeze me in.  It was nice being that close to the action and the actors.  Lots of friends on that stage.

And, yes, I cried.  A few times.  Yes, the book is a mess in places, but the score has some wonderful moments.  *And as someone pointed out to me afterwards, it's strangely absent of an extended solo ballad for one character, any character.  But I found myself tearing up a few times during the show - as well as a few times after the show...

...It's all begun to sink in.  I'm leaving Richmond.  My home (on and off) for the past 19 years(!) will no longer be my home.  But in my heart...

-At least it's a "good sad".

EATING RAOUL - And how I still want to do the musical version some day!  I need me some "Hot Monkey Love".
THE PRINCESS BRIDE - Yes, I know this is not a true cult movie, but since it's shown as a Midnight Movie at the Byrd here in Richmond every few weeks...

I have one of those single aisle at the wall seats in the orchestra (row J). Singles are always the hardest to sell since most people go to the theater in couples or groups. My two friends who are coming with me also will have single seats at the wall. All the other seats are center orchestra together.

I'll be there August 4-7, so a brunch one day would be great. It would nice to meet some of you lovely folks.

Past tense now.  Griff's was a leather bar, noted for it's Full Moon parties and Sunday Beer Busts.  They also sponsored the top gay softball team for several years.  Sadly, the owners have both passed on.  They also owned the Bunkhouse, which was a country-themed bar on Santa Monica Blvd., but is also no longer in existance.

I found the entire Corey Clark affair (pun intended) very suspicious. I have no doubt that Paula, in wanting to play starmaker, probably championed him. Shows her total lack of taste that she'd choose someone so lacking in talent and charisma. I never thought he should have made it to the finals and was glad I didn't have to listen to him any longer when he was bounced from the show.

But why did he wait *2* years to reveal all this? Is he just now getting a book and CD deal and needs the publicity to launch it since there's obviously no talent there? Also, in the clips I saw, his parents seemed rehearsed and merely following orders on what to say.

Again, I didn't watch the show, just judging by what I've read and the clips from it I've seen.

At first there showed sufficiently inoffensive on the the present of merkam.Proposing the concept:) films with a large quantity of exposed "actresses" and the simulation of sexual reports, but nearer to the eightieth people was already "radiated" so, that into the rental went valuable hardcore-porno. Softcore'nye the films of the beginning of the seventieth were often characterized by the madly wild names (type "I it ended to the bus";)) and by the cheapness of the production, when as the commonplace it was considered not to stop the working camera, even if "actor" turns himself to the director for the council - dispatch all these moments without any installation into the finished film, since retake or serious assembly period cost money, but why to expend the money, when people then brings down to look to naked telesa of starletok (but "subject" and the quality of "game" this public clearly they do not interest). Part Two of Review:

In similar extreme situations the brain of man works especially intensively, and grandiose idea shaded Garry - it is necessary to remove porno- musical! Investors did not at first voice large enthusiasm, but young person in the paints and the details painted by it, as noticeably everything in it will come out and what immense success this project awaits - indeed this there will be the first film of this type! After consulting, starikany agreed to give to young fellow last chance, but immediately was placed drakonovskiye.Orgasm...;) the condition: the first - half of money they invest, and they give half to fellow into the debt; the second - director must be nephew of one of the investors; and the third - entire film must be taken in two weeks, and not it is in the daytime more! Selection Garry not had, and it agreed. And from this point on, obviously, begins the most interesting. To the hearing it appeared more than different coat public, by "director" proved to be that complexed of dvadtsatitrekhletniy of devstvennik, and music and songs for the "picture" were written by aged negro directly on surveying area... What came out from entire this disgrace - you look the film:) It is necessary to give credit to the talent of Bruce kimmel - in fact, it only extended on itself entire picture, and it boldly it is possible to compare with another young gift of that time - By melom by Brooks, in seven years thus far placed immense comedy on the similar theme by the name Lesbian, Butch, Dyke...;)"Prodyusery" (The Producers (1968)). Bruce, as Brooks, not only wrote outstanding scenario and he became the to- director of picture, but also magnificently played the role "of director -devstvennika" John smiti (surname Smithee it must much say to amateurs and experts of cinematography...;)), and it also wrote entire music and songs to the picture (here already truly - man of many-sided talents),!

Part Three of Review:

Because of the efforts Of kimmela, the film came out very ridiculous, extraordinarily entertaining and it excellently parodied many "behind the scene" moments of the entertainment industries, inaccessible to the view of usual spectator. Especially strongly it was reached, certainly, to the process of the production of low-budgetary pictures, about which by hearsay he did not know Kimmel, since itself removed the low-budgetary picture (producer it initially allocated only of 125 thousand dollars):) "as to become director?" - it is necessary altogether to only be nephew or son of one of the producers. "where to find artists?" - give declaration into the newspapers, and at the doors of studio will very soon stand the different coat crowd, in which mozhno.Shriting the music on the stage:) to meet and beginning pornozvezd, and modest shy girls from the province with the large dream "to subjugate Hollywood". "where to find composer?" - it is necessary simply to ring its old friend and to ask him to write music for the film, that it will make directly on surveying area in the interruptions between the doubles. "as to calm the raged on area" star "? - nothing complex, it is simple to otvet' by reciprocity to its solicitations:) "what to make, if" director "- dvadtsatitrekhletniy of devstvennik, which nothing knows about the cinematography generally and the process of the production of films in particular?" - to try so that it would conduct as less than the time on area, as possible more frequently send it into the store after the dumplings, and when dumplings will covered entire studio - show out it to the "copying of scenario" into the public house... "I finally, that to make, when in the hearts you discharged capricious" star "in the last day of surveys, and it is necessary to remove still several important scenes" - this simplest, leave because of the camera and make entire itself, indeed you already in this business very long ago and know the routine...;) As you see, to remove low-budgetary cinema complex, but since you already became acquainted with the answers to the majority of production questions, then can boldly take up the creation of your own masterpieces, indeed, at the end Dancing dildos of;)kontsov, the same so is gay! And actually, film came out very merry and fervid, with an enormous quantity of obnazhenki and the super-musical numbers, type "Lesbian, Butch, Dyke", "Orgasm", "Perversion" and, it is certain, shedevral'nym "Dancing Dildos"! :) At least only for one "Dancing Dildos" this film already is worth looking, and indeed besides this number there there is still much what interesting...;) In spite of its obvious creative success, the rolling fate of picture was added sufficiently complex. Even during the production of film was signed agreement with studio Paramount to wide reliz of tape in the states. During the production and the installation the studio was very contented by result, but... here burst out thunder among the clear sky - one of the basic stars of picture, Sindi Williams, it began to be removed in the popular "family" television series Paramount Networks "Laverne & Shirley", and studio solved, that its participation in "The First Nudie Musical" negative will affect the ratings of series and on the image of paramount itself. Trying as peace history, na".Stunt dick" working;) the matter itself, but it does not cease to astonish. However, simply so "to get rid" of the picture studio not could - since it had to fulfill contractual obligations on the rental and distributions of film.

Last part of review:

As a result - Paramount went "to the craftiness" - without any press- demonstrations (so that not there would be reviews in the press, it understands) and the advertisements film they released on the screens of the provincial small towns of America, without having released picture into the large cities and the large populated areas. However, even during this "distribution" film they noted, and tape began to bring to the rollers of money. But here was agitated Bruce kimel, who appeared in the press with the open turning to management Paramount and required normal rotation with his creation, especially as public was clearly in the enthusiasm from the picture. Ended this all by the fact that Paramount sold rights to the film conversely to the authors, thus after getting rid of the "undesirable" picture in its catalog and after making possible To kimelu to make with the tape everything that it will wish. But it wished to find another distrib'yutora, which soon and organized the worthy The closing number:)reklamnuyu and rolling company of film in the states. And this, it goes without saying, it gave its fruits, since picture not only in the course of THREE MONTHS successfully went in the cinemas of New York, but also several weeks entered into national charty of boxing- office on the fifth position (!), after proving to be in the company of such mastodons of rental as "Star Wars" and "The Spy Who Loved Me". The audience success of picture was present and caused it, certainly, by the fact that the film is actually very amusing and is ridiculous, is working and as ingenious comedy, and as successful parody to porno, musicals and film production as a whole. Sufficiently expected became the fact that in the course of time the film acquired steadfast cult status and mass of new worshippers, who saw picture already on video. Everything, who loves exceptionally successful parodies, ridiculous comedies, on top of that and away not to look to many exposed female teles - good to grant on "The First Nudie Musical"! Parents, remove from the screen of children...;) Sergey merenkov Rating - 5 rating - 5 rating - 5 rating - 5 rating - 5 Memorable quotations: [ being turned to the shy provincial girl on hearing ] of Garry shekter: Well, I do hope, you do understand that for you it is necessary to be removed by that exposed, this will be for you normally? DR MattH, I agree that Corey Clark is doing this to publicize his book and cd.  And I also agree that I never liked him.  And I think he comes across as shady.  However, he definitely had many facts (that i listed in my other post) to prove his claim.

I don't think his parents could have made this up.  If they did that would be pretty horrible.

Sure the evidence is mostly circumstantial.  And yes voice clips can be doctored to make it seem like Paula sent those messages.  But from what we were shown, his claim seems to have some merit.

Although I think the fact that he would do this to someone he claimed to love (paula) shows complete lack of class and character.

My first exposure to FIRST NUDIE was on the Showtime Channel back around 1987 or so. Late night, they would play an odd assortment of softcore stuff like GOODBYE EMMANUEL, which I would enjoy, provided my dad hadn't fallen asleep in the room (Okay, sometimes even if he had). I never caught the whole movie, though the song "Lesbian-Butch-Dyke" always stayed with me. Then a few years ago, a pal of mine is raving about a film called SPACESHIP, simulatneously, I was enjoying the Danny Peary Cult Movies Books. Hey, this same guy directed both. My pal brought SPACESHIP over, we rented NUDIE and had a heck of a time laughing at both.
Kudos BK!

If you go to AltaVista's Babel Fish Translation Page (http://babelfish.altavista.com/), you can enter a foreign language website address and it'll translate the whole page!  They have many languages to choose from!  And you can translate into English or from English!

The fact that Corey Clark has said he will not cooperate with Fox to help them investigate his claims makes me have suspicions about ALL of its truth. As I said, I've always found Corey Clark to be slightly creepy.  And I agree, I think he wants to cash in from this story.  Also, I would not tend to believe anything he would say, since I like Paula (and find him to act and sound less than reliable).

However that said,  I wonder if he doesn't want to help FOX simply because he doesn't want to get Paula fired.  He kept saying last night (when asked why he was doing this) that he simply wanted to tell the truth.   And it did seem like he was in love with her (listen to the lyrics of the "politics" song/not sure how that is spelled, since it's about paula).

He had huge phone records from his parents house to paula (i'd assume ABC would have verified this). Although he made it sound like paula initiated the calls (but then how could they appear on his phone bill).  That and his parents knowing about this (and his mom talking to paula a number of times, make me think some of what he says is probably true.

I wonder what the ratings were for the Primetime special.

Happy Anniversary to our own BK!  I know this won’t sound right but I’m glad that things worked out the way they did.  Why?  Because if they did, there may never have been a Haines His Way site and I never would have met some of the best people ever.

I have a crisis!  Neil Diamond is coming to town in…… October!  Tickets go on sale on MONDAY!   I don’t want to buy a ticket if Girls Night Out is still on and since we don’t have a date but I REALLY like Neil Diamond.

You know, I can’t help it--can’t we ask the guys if they want to go as well?  I know it defeats the purpose of “Girls Night” but I’m awfully fond of those NY Guys (and anyone else who might be in town at the time) and I want them to share the fun.  Just a thought…..

Maisie

Der Brucer and I had had word on this transport job a few days early.  We were to pick up a pregnant dog and take her north to Smyrna, where we would be met by a member of another rescue group that specializes in puppies and their mothers.  It sounded simple.

Just to be on the safe side, I checked a few on-line sites for details about dogs giving birth, and what to do when it happens.  Among the factoids were that many dogs get nervous when they're about due, particularly if it's their first time.  Their temperature drops, if you happen to have a rectal thermometer.  They start lactating.  And they're likely to pant.

About noon or so, der B gets a call.  The girl we were to pick up was getting very nervous, probably from being in the SPCA kennel with all the other dogs.  Could we pick her up a little early, please?

So of course we drive on over.  "She" was indeed nervous, but a lovely black Lab mix, still fairly young.  I arranged the blankets on the back seat for her to lay down upon, and moved my normal shotgun seat up as far as I could so there would be legroom for me to join the lass in the back.  She was skittish but not hostile, and glad to be out of the pound, accepting my petting her gracefully.

About five minutes into the ride back home, I decided to call her Maisey, mainly because it's May and it seemed like a good name for her.  About ten minutes into the ride back home, Maisey gave a big smile, looking around happily...and started to pant.

Once we got to our home, Maisey quite happily followed us to the basement entrance in back.  At this point we didn't really want to introduce her to the other dogs, so keeping her downstairs was the best location for her until we were scheduled to head north.  Marty, Buster and Fletcher did not agree with our plan, of course; they knew there was someone interesting downstairs, and all three had their noses to the crack under the door, trying to get as much information as they could about her.

You know, I can’t help it--can’t we ask the guys if they want to go as well?  I know it defeats the purpose of “Girls Night” but I’m awfully fond of those NY Guys (and anyone else who might be in town at the time) and I want them to share the fun.  Just a thought…..
I am certain that many of the NY Guys would be proud to be included with the "Girls," and the rest would gladly fake it.

Maisie, continued.

Came the appointed hour for us to leave, der Brucer sent me downstairs to take Maisie back to the car.  She wasn't too sure about leaving, however.  She circled around the downstairs twice, with me following...and then she disappeared!  I mean, it was like she totally vanished, not a trace, not a sound.  I spent at least ten minutes searching through the basement, which is admittedly filled with clutter.  I'm just glad der B decided against bring the big green dragon costume east with us when we moved.

Finally, I checked under the stairs themselves, behind the water heater.  There she was, hiding, not hostile but wanting to be left alone.  She accepted the leash being put on her again, however, and followed me out to the car.  Der Brucer was waiting there for us, and soon we were on the road again, me in the back seat once more with Maisie.

Again, she settled down fairly quickly.  We hadn't taken her temperature, but she still seemed nervous, and was panting again, but less than before.  She even napped a little.

In less than an hour, we were at the rest stop, the same one where we'd delivered Cici and Coco, the Pointer sisters, a few months earlier.  Our contact, an enthusiastic brunette named Diane, was already there.  She noted now Maisie was quivering, and panting, and reached down to check one of her teats.  "Yep, I'd say she'll be giving birth in a day, two at the most."

Der Brucer leaned down to pet Maisie one more time, and she gave his hand a lick.  She did the same when I leaned down.  "Have a good life, Maisie," I told her.

And we drove south again, while Diane drove Maisie north.  Tomorrow we get up early, to take a boxer lass to the same exchange point.

SWW I thought for sure the story was going to end with a litter of newborns in your basement. Maisie is a cute name.  Did you tell Diane her name?

Danise it will be awhile before I get my appointment at the NIH.  If all goes well I should be there during the first half of the month.

If I had my choice I would go to the NIH on the 10th & 11th and go to NY after.  However the 10th is Columbus Day & I believe they are closed.  This means I will go there, if possible, on the Monday & Tuesday prior followed by a trip to NY.  Or I will go to NY followed by an appointment at the NIH on the 17th & 18th.

Did that help at all?

Yes, we did tell her.  All right, der B is the big talker of the two of us (Elmore and BK can attest to that), and he told her the name.  Seems like it's going to stick.

Maybe later we'll go through helping with a birth.  Not yet.

Good Evening!

Sheesh!  I think I've had enough of these "getting up before noon" days!  I'm just sooo tired now even before midnight rolls around.  What's up with that?  HUH?!?!?

;)

In any case... Another good show.  It's kind of "nice" knowing that I'm at the point where I don't have to count the number of measures of rest I have from time to time - I just "feel" them now.  Of course, being "comfortable" can be, well, let's just say, a little too comfortable at times.

Strange audience tonight too.  We could tell they liked it, but they just weren't responsive.  And hardly anyone stood during the curtain call either.  Very strange.  But, then again, very Richmond.  So...

*I also noticed tonight that I have a "nice" bruise on my left arm.  I guess I got it sometime during the move.  It only hurts when I touch it, but it's getting to that dark-purple stage..  :-\

Jennifer, the FALLEN IDOL special report on ABC finished first in the time slot last night (of course). CSI: NY finished second, and LAW & ORDER came in third.

Scott finished in the top three on IDOL last week, and this week he came in last in the voting. What made the difference, especially since his was not the worst singing of the night?

Basically, arrogance. At one point Ryan asked him what he thought about the judges' opinions, and he said, "I'm just thinking about what song I'm going to sing next week."

You can be untalented and remain in the running on IDOL, but the one thing the public does not seem to tolerate is out of control ego. I believe Scott thought he was invincible, and it backfired on him.

I finally got around to checking out THE BARKLEYS OF BROADWAY which I had DVRed earlier in the week. My videotape of it looks rather pale and lifeless. The TCM broadcast was very richly saturated and pretty sharp, so I went ahead and burned a DVD-R of it.

I think I read somewhere that THE BARKLEYS OF BROADWAY will be a part of the Astaire-Rogers boxed set coming out in the fall, and I'm sure the commercial DVD will be even better looking, but at least for now I have a watchable copy of the film.

Re Idol: There is also the "Vote for the Worst" controversy lingering in the background, recently picked up by a few newssites (such as the Chicago Trib (http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/chi-050504idol,1,1367011.story?coll=chi-homepagenews2-utl&ctrack=1&cset=true)).

Fortunately, I've got better things to do with my time, and on my phone.

Michael Shayne gets the final sparkling prize - send address.

Back from a marvelous working dinner.

Pogue - hard to know what would have happened.  The main thing is if we'd given it to him I don't know that it would have gone on to the kind of cult status it has now.  But, I'm sure you're right on at least one front - he would have let me direct some low-budget features and that would have been fun.

I had always heard about the First Nudie Musical way before I met BK and always wanted to see it. But I don't think it ever made it to Montreal. Even if I was under age at the time I still was able to get into 18 years and over as I looked order so I could have seen it. But had to settle for the LP

Are there such a thing as cult movies today? I don't think so. Where are the unusual Robert Altman films like Three Women or Brewster McLoud? Or a Harold and Maude?

Although I think the movie Reefer Madness recently on showtime mighty have a chance at it.

Well, my birthday dinner at Applebee's (http://www.applebees.com/) was partially successful (fortunately, more successful than not :)).  The successful part was that the food was very good.  I had the Oriental chicken salad, my dad had the chicken fried steak (which I almost got instead of the salad), my mom got one of the other salads (I forget which), my sister got some fajita-like dish, her boyfriend got the salmon and I totally forget what my niece got.  Everyone loved the food.  For dessert, I had the Apple Chimicheesecake, my sister and her boyfriend shared and my niece got her own Maple Butter Blondie and my dad had the Sizzling Apple Pie.  Very good!

The not so successful part was our waitperson.  Don't get me wrong, she was a very nice person, but she took just a little too long to get things to us.  Not so long that it was distracting, but we'd ask for something and then not see her for just enough time for us to notice that it took a little too long.  Otherwise, she did get us everything that we asked for and like I said, she was very nice.

For my presents, I previously got the tickets to Patti LuPone in Concert, that I went to last month, so I only got a card from my sister and Larry (her boyfriend)...not a problem, at all!  My niece gave me a card and $20 cash (even though I owe her $8.50). ::) And my parents gave me a check (I won't say how much, though). ;)

And with all the very Special Birthday Wishes from HHW, I have had a wonderful day!  Thank you all!!

Since I'm stuffed with lots of food (including an Apple Chimicheesecake with lots of caramel sauce), I can barely stay awake.  I'm going to pull the Wussburger thing and say goodnight to all! ;D

It's my party and I'll sleep if I want to!
