Well, you've read the notes, the notes had revenge and redux, and now it is time for you to post until the redux cows come home.
-
And the word of the day: BUCOLIC!
-
Happy travels to traveler Jane.
-
Tom and George thanks for the vibes.
-
We leave tomorrow morning.
-
Happy travels to traveler Jane.
Thank you.
-
Listening to Smetana's Dalibor - I like it!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
~~~SAFE AND EASY TRAVEL VIBES~~~ for DR Jane and DH Keith!!!!!
-
I am sorry you got unhappy news, DR Laura.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept very well until 5:00 this morning, when Stella began to pester me and Annabelle leaped onto my bed from her bookcase aerie. Those last 45 minutes were hell.
-
I really enjoyed REVENGE and the Q&A, but there was someone on the talkback who had a radio or TV on that was driving me crazy and then the sound got really wonky for a bit. When I first joined HHW in 2004, we used to have chat nights, and I think a monthly or occasional HHW zoom would be a great deal of fun.
-
My little actress Annabelle and her cohort in crime, Thatch, enjoyed the show with me, and they've been acting the murder over and over again. Watching Annabelle trying to hold a popsicle stick in her paw to stab Thatch is really pathetic.
-
DR ChasSmith, your cat is beautiful, and he looks huge! Do you know his weight? I think Stella's got to be around 15 lbs, and A&T are each around 10 lbs.
-
DR George, I love Our Town, and even a poor high school production can break my heart. There have been a couple of TV broadcasts, and I saw the one from 1977 with Hal Holbrook as the Stage Manager, Robby Benson, Ned Beatty, and others. I haven't seen it since then, but I found it on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEoXuXRoOdY
-
DR JohnG, are they performing the Sophocles tragedy Antigone or Anouih's version? I think either one can be quite wonderful, but I do prefer Anouilh.
-
BK, Encores! did not consider performing The Firebrand of Florence because Ted Sperling's group (Master Voices) performed it in concert with Victoria Clark in the Lenya role. I'm sure there are clips on YouTube from those sad Clark fans.
-
Roland Petit did choreograph a Broadway show, the dreadful 1982(?) revival of Cole Porter's Can-Can with disco arrangements and a cast srarring an over the hill Jeanmaire and Ron Hussman. Petit's choreography looked as if he thought he was doing a Vegas floor show, Jeanmaire's scrawny legs looked absolutely frightening in tights, and the best things about the revival were Avery Schreiber and Pamela Sousa as the artist and his model. I have this distinct memory that Swen Swenson was also in the production, which was beautiful to look at, but it Petit's work was so wrong.
-
I just found the poster on Google, and Swen Swenson was indeed in the show! I think I saw the last preview, and I don't think it ran more than a couple of weeks.
-
Good morning, all.
-
That’s Mikey, an all-American tabby who’s around 12 years old but still acts like a kid, and he is indeed heavy but the vet says he’s at a good weight. And now I forget what it was! Over 15 lbs, though. It’s time for his annual checkup so we’ll know soon. Maybe I can weigh him with me on the scale later. I don’t have a “small item” scale here.
-
Yes, there was extraneous noise coming from someone on the zoom session, like a radio or TV playing. And then the weird echo effect later, but we were winding down then. I agree with DR Elmore that we should have an occasional HHW zoom partay.
Good to see DR Ginny again, and I still forget there’s going to be long hair! :)
-
DR elmore3003, Annabelle has added these refrigerator magnets to your Amazon shopping cart.
-
Good morning, all.
It’s Sophocles.
HA!
We usually sell Season Tickets for $35, which is includes a ticket to each of four shows......your season ticket is always for the same night of the first or second week and it is always the same seat.
This season the tickets are ala carte - and all tickets are $10, our usual single session ticket price.
You choose what night you want to come to ALL shows you want to attend....but you can choose any or ALL of the shows.
The $$ included some folks' annual fund drive donation, so perhaps we'll find out at the ZOOM meeting today exactly how many tickets we have sold and to which shows.....we shall see.
-
I also enjoy OUR TOWN.....I played the choir director in a production. It's a nice part.....and of course he ends up in the cemetery.
You didn’t use a SPOILER ALERT. George hasn’t read it yet. 😜
-
Two!
-
Let's move on.
-
Oh. We already did! :)
-
Just keep moving on.
-
We read Our Town back in 10th grade. I remember writing an essay on the use of Blest Be the Tie that Binds. Don’t remember what I said about it.
-
It's beautifully cool here today. Amongst the chores, I think there will be a walk and a nap.
-
I remember writing an essay on the use of Blest Be the Tie that Binds.
Are you sure you don't have that mixed up with an essay about Frenzy?
-
8)
-
Was DR TCB at the Q&A last night? Was Clayton?
[humming Matchmaker, Matchmaker...]
-
We read a lot that year. Sophocles (Oedipus Rex), Shakespeare (Merchant of Venice), Lord of the Flies, A Separate Peace, Little Big Man and Frances Bacon’s essays are all I remember now. But in those English classes, we read at least 20 books a year.
-
That was the essay for a more private class.
LOL!
Clayton, yes; DR TCB, no.
-
Our high school (not sure which class, I'd have to look it up) did OUR TOWN. That was practically a rite of passage then.
The other play I always remember them doing was PYGMALION.
-
Maybe it was always the senior class, now that I think about it. But I will have to get out the yearbooks.
-
Good morning!
~~~SAFE AND EASY TRAVEL VIBES~~~ for DR Jane and DH Keith!!!!!
Thank you.

DR Jeanne since I don't know if I will be posting this week,
SUPER VIBES FOR YOUR UPCOMING SURGERY!

We didn't have a theater department in my high school, but we did read Pygmalion, too. Ninth grade. Along with My Fair Lady.
-
Finishing up News of the World. Moving. Excellently acted.
-
I don't know that I realized until the end credits that News of the World was based on a Paulette Jiles novel. She lives a couple of hours away near Utopia, Texas. Given how accurate details of the area were, it should be no surprise.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings!
Hope I’m here in time to add my travel vibes for DR Jane and Keith. I KNOW how excited you are!

Travel vibes for Jane and Keith!

Not as long as it was before I had it cut this past Thursday!
I vote for an HHW Zoom, too.

In bk's opera survey, he hasn't mentioned Wagner much.
Here is soprano Birgit Nilsson, singing from the Ring, under Solti's baton, with score.

To THREE!!!

That is very likely from The Golden Ring: The Making of Solti's Ring (https://amzn.to/3mGN56e), a fascinating look into the world of mid-20th-century classical music recording. It's probably well worth seeing even if you're not so much a fan of Wagner.
-
And if the Ring Cycle is of any interest, here's another that I don't remember much about off the top of my head:
Sing Faster - The Stagehands' Ring Cycle (https://amzn.to/3g2wVTq)
-
The past hour has been hell, but I survived, and the cats are fed, which is the most important thing. I'm wondering if these gastrointestinal issues are a symptom of something going wrong with my biopsy rather than with Vaccine #2. Yes, it's been a really bnad hour.
-
FEEL BETTER VIBES!
-
Vibes for Elmore.
-
Up from a nap. Ready for another.
-
I have a set of the Ring on disc and haven’t made the time to watch it. Soon. Maybe.
-
Bring snacks.
-
Bring snacks.
A lot.
-
I used to have somewhere - probably still do - The Ring Disc.
It's a single disc containing the Solti ring (in compressed audio), plus the entire libretti in German and English, plus the entire vocal score, plus a "museum" of costume and set design photographs.
-
I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of sleep.
-
Got up at one, and food just arrived and is sadly a disappointment. Just not up to how good the Cheesecake Factory's salads are and it sure looks like the half-Caesar rather than the one I ordered. Stanley's was much better. I'm realizing that sans croutons it's just not a real Caesar for me. They also included their amazing bread and you have no idea how hard it is not to eat it.
-
Listening to Lakme and enjoying it.
-
I found the Wagner documentary DR ChasSmith referenced above on YouTube. Here is the first of the 6 parts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tPOQKRwdIM
-
Just heard that gorgeous and famous female duet from Lakme -
-
Salad finished. I'll have to go to Gelson's and get something protein-wise for later.
-
Just heard that gorgeous and famous female duet from Lakme -
Which recording did you get?
-
The Met's most famous Lakme was Lily Pons. When she was in Hollywood filming I Dream Too Much," Hedda Hopper interviewed her and inquired about her opera roles.
"You know Lakme?" she asked Hedda.
"Oh, I like you very much," Hedda replied.

;D
-
HA!

When it comes to culture, I'm one of the first hogs to the trough.

Vibes for DR ELMORE.

Traveling vibes for DR JANE.

Sunday afternoon greetings!
Hope I’m here in time to add my travel vibes for DR Jane and Keith. I KNOW how excited you are!
Thanks. We have arrived in Chicago and are waiting for the train to start.
-
Traveling vibes for DR JANE.
Thanks. As the plane left the ground I had a big smile on my face, not that anyone could see it ;;D
-
Hello
-
No posts, I thought maybe I wasn't connected to the hotel wifi
-
Glad you traveled without incident, DR Jane.
I am supposed to fly at the end of July. Even vaccinated, it still makes me nervous.

Moving on...

to FOUR!!!!

It is never comfortable flying and this was worse. Keith got coffee at the airport & it was mask off for a sip then back on. We completey wiped down our personal space on the plane. Again, eating was uncomfortable.

Nor seen it. ::) But don't worry. I'll probably forget that detail when (if) I ever do.

We also flew nonstop.

SUPER VIBES FOR YOUR UPCOMING SURGERY!
~~~SUPER DITTO!!~~~
Fortunately the train into the city wasn't crowded.
-
Gratuitous Post #100!
I recorded a production on PBS and watched it while I was recording it. It was quite good and thoroughly enjoyable.
-
Starting to watch Barb & Star Go to Vista del Mar. Very strange. Parts are fun, though.
-
Had a nice dinner with friends.
-
The sleazy piano play in Barb & Star is named Richard Cheese. That should not be funny, but it is.
-
I took a shower and washed my hair and feel better, except...
-
Just heard that gorgeous and famous female duet from Lakme -
It is gorgeous!
-
As usual I dried my hair starting with ghe high setting.
-
I burned my ears.
-
They are bright red :o
-
I burned my ears.
Oh, no! :(
-
Ouch. Pain-free ear vibes for Jane.
-
Thanks. So far they are only tender. I am more bothered by how they look ;D
-
Well, I just got some (potential) good news about my flash drive that crapped out on me a couple of days ago! My sister's boyfriend has a program (that he paid for, even!) that can sometimes recover corrupted drives, and he tested my flash drive today and it found files! He just needs to renew the license for the program, and then hopefully he can restore my files! A big (but reserved) HOO and RAY!! ;D
-
Vibes it works.
Thanks, Jane!
Wow...how soon they turn on each other: Trump blasts McConnell as ‘dumb son of a b---h’: report (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-blasts-mcconnell-as-dumb-son-of-a-b-h-report/ar-BB1fxgFv?ocid=spartan-ntp-feeds). ::)
-
Of course, I don't think that this was so much a matter of if, but when. ;)
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
Three hours writing liner notes just about did me in - they were hard because I couldn't figure out a way into them and then when I WAS into them I had so little information on the music it was nuts. I Googled it differently and finally found some stuff that I could use, but it was really a slog - I think they came out well.
-
elmore, the Lake is with Joan Sutherland.
-
After I finished them, I went to Gelson's and got some almonds and a small rack of ribs - only four - for my protein. I came home and ate them and they just weren't so hot and certainly not meaty.
-
After that, I watched a movie I hadn't seen in fourteen years, and now I'm listening to the Zemlinsky opera.
-
The past hour has been hell, but I survived, and the cats are fed, which is the most important thing. I'm wondering if these gastrointestinal issues are a symptom of something going wrong with my biopsy rather than with Vaccine #2. Yes, it's been a really bnad hour.
Possibly your own cooking.
I wish I still had the VHS of the OUR TOWN I did. A friend of a friend in the cast got this religious TV station to bring in their entire three camera system and a mixer. They added lovely credits to the show, too. The only problem was that the only time they could come and record the show was our dress rehearsal.
So, we had a lovely film, except zero audience reaction.
That's too bad, Tom. There used to be a theater group here in Olympia called The Abbey Players. They folded almost 20 years ago. :-\ Anyway, they used to have all of their productions videotaped and we actors could get copies. I have a lot (but probably not all) of videos of the shows that I was in with them. Fortunately, the company was a professional company and would schedule the time during our runs, so we always had an audience.
I thought the Lake was with Veronica.
-
So, earlier this evening, I decided to make the strawberry gelatin package that my sister gave me. You'e heard of jelly donuts? Well, let me present "jello" donuts:
-
I had that silicone donut pan and it worked really well! :D
-
This is what my sister gave me. Jane might like it...it's actually vegan! And it tastes pretty good. Not a very strong flavor, but it's pretty good.
-
Just thought I'd share. :)
-
In honor of the Easter season, I watched THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD. I thought I had seen it before but I must have confused it with KING OF KINGS.
-
I enjoyed the film, but there are some really unusual scenes in the movie. There is one scene between Simon Peter and Jesus that looks like it was lifted from a Abbott and Costello routine.
-
Interesting.
-
And the famous scene of John Wayne as The Centurian was disappointin. Even on my big screen TV, The Centurian is way back in the frame, so you can’t even tell if it is Wayne. And the voice, that was dubbed in, sounded like a Rich Little impression rather than Wayne himself.
-
And I never did find Angela Lansbury in the film.
