Title: REVEALING THINGS
Post by: bk on May 19, 2005, 12:00:06 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes have been revealing and yet not revealing, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which will be as soon as they are revealing themselves.

morning all (well, it will be when you receive this) ..

update on Tomvoz ...

- spoke to Tom today.  He had been resting as he did not have a good night last night.  Still not able to eat.  Poor Tom - fading away as we speak.

Have just had a text from him.  Seems the surgeon has results of tests etc. and all seems "ok".  Big hugs for Tom.

Trust DR Elmore is recovering.  Big cheers, hugs and well wishes from both Tomovoz and myself.

A big Ozzie hug to you all.

Bonne Anniversaire to Dear François!

Glad to hear about dear Tom.

I would like to do more world traveling (like Michael Shayne). I haven't because I have this pesky thing called a job and this thing won't let me take weeks (or months) at a time to travel around Europe like a bohemian.

Of the things that are indeed possible (as in not dependent on meeting someone who is no longer alive or moving to Hollywood in the 20's or New York in the 40's), the first thing that comes to mind is scuba diving.

I've always wanted to go scuba diving but haven't gotten around to it.  I haven't been able to coordinate the inspiration, the time and the money to do it.  I suppose when I really get ready to do it, I'll overcome those things no matter what.

I'm very happy to realize that I have done most of what I really wanted to do... and even a lot that I never knew I wanted to do until I did it.

There is something I'd like to wriite someday.  I suppose fear of failure, more than anything, is keeping me from it.

Good morning, all!  I slept better last night than before; perhaps it's the Vicodin?

DRRodzinski, thanks for the sharpmind comment; I have no idea what I might have said that gave you that idea.  I feel as dull as ditchwater.

DRJRand54, one man's whimsy is another man's poison, and I loathed and detested INVASION.  I thought it was a great idea, but I found its archness , deliberate David Lynch quirkiness, and unsubtle humor a total chore.  I felt as though I were watching a cast, which was game and trying hard to be funny, flogging a dead horse and shouting at me "Isn't this hysterical?"  Alas, no it wasn't.

I did love Linda Darnell, even if she's wearing enough makeup to keep the Hilton girls happy for a decade, and the story's denouement was quite quirky.  I'm sure your LITTLE SHOP video was a hoot with the cast; they all seem caught with their pants down (I'm speaking metaphorically, DRJose!) and clearly everyone's having a good time.  My favorite bit from Ed Sullivan was the Everly Brothers.

Dear Friend BK, it was nice to hear your voice on the phone yesterday; did you locate cellist extraordinaire Ted Hoyle?  I'm happy you were pleased with your reading.

Now, how many are showing up at Joe Allen's on Saturday night at 8:15?

I would love to go swimming with the dolphins! I have been fascinated by those animals since I was a child.

I would also, at least once in my life, appear in a motion picture in a small role. I think that would be fun. Of course it would help if I could act.

I have been very pleasead watching ELIZABETH R on the new player.

It's always a dicey proposition with those BBC DVDs. Some have been ported directly from tape masters and look grainy and soft. ELIZABETH R, perhaps along with I CLAUDIUS my favorite BBC miniseries, looks quite wonderful for its age. It is sharp, clear, and with nice color. And the greater size of picture and sharpness makes the overhead mike shadows VERY noticeable now.

Wasn't LOST amazing last night? I got teary-eyed about three times during the show, there were so many backstories crammed into the hour that it constantly kept my brain at attention, and the surprises just keep on coming! The two hour finale next week should be something!

No surprise about who was sent home from IDOL last night. I have to admit, I'd rather it have been a Bo/Vonzell finale. I have never warmed to Carrie, but Carrie is the only one of the people who was never in the bottom three during the finals, so I wasn't surprised to see her stay, and it wouldn't surprise me if she won. She's obviously got a BIG fan base.

There are lots of things I've never done that I'd like to do, but the first one that popped into my head was riding a motorcycle. My eyesight isn't good enough for me to trust myself on a motorcycle, so I've never summoned up enough courage to try, but I think it would be a blast.

Good morning!

I got up about 20 minutes ago because I thought I heard someone say/yell/ask out loud, "Jojo, are you home?"  I thought it was my father - who has been taking advantage of his plethora of vacation days at work lately.  But, nope, when I got up and walked around the house for a bit, no one was there, and I even checked the garage to make sure the cars were their or not there.  Hmm...

In any case... I'm up.  A bit groggy, but I'm up.  Can you say, "Afternoon nap"?

As for things I've never done...

Travel more - Especially Europe, particularly France, Austria and Switzerland.  Not only countries with great music, but great chocolate too!  :)  And I really would like to make to the Great Barrier Reef too.  We shall see what happens come August/September.

Write a book - I actually was approached a few years ago about writing one, and I have a feeling I still may.  Sometimes I'll find myself coming up with the format, or composing a paragraph or two... or three in my head.  We shall see.

As for something I've never done because of the fear factor...  On the "silly side" of things, I've never been to a strip club.  A male strip club at least.  -As for a female establishment, don't ask... Looooong story.  In short, it was a mistake.  Not mine, but a mistake nonetheless.  On the more adventurous and serious side of things, it would have to be either surfing (preferably in Hawaii) or skydiving.

Great Tonya-luggage-props story, DRJOSE!  LOL....I have been on both sides of that particular type of event.

DRRODZINSKI - Mr Arkadin is NOT without some interest, but it is one of those international productions that Welles used to do in which ALL the dialog is looped and it seems to come from everywhere, and the actors are not that skilled at the process....also lots of dialog coming from the backs of heads and people off screen.  Welles is always fun to watch, his wig takes a bit of getting used to.  The young leading lady who is introduced (and as far as I know of never heard from again) tries and fails to look and act like Audrey Hepburn in SABRINA and ROMAN HOLIDAY...but either she is not talented enough or can't dub her lines correctly, or a combination of the two.

"Lost" SPOILERS!

DR George, DO NOT READ THIS -- SKIP OVER IT!

SPOILER

SPOILER

SPOILER

I concur with DR MattH's assessment -- LOST was i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e last night.   Quite a few very realistic and touching (not maudlin) moments.

Between Jack and Sawyer -- that fence is totally mended now!  What a scene.  And perfectly enacted.

Between Shannon and Walt -- very touching to hear Walt tell Shannon why he wants her to take care of his dog.

Between Jin and Sun -- I'm farklempt just thinking about them.

Next week's closer ought to be phenomenal.

I also taped, then watched the season finale to "Smallville" -- wowee!  Totally riveting with unexpected drama, tragedy and the turn-to-evil I've been expecting in Lex Luthor.

Happy birthday DR Francois!

I also was not surprised that Vonzell went home on Idol.

DR MattH re: LOST (don't read if you didn't watch yet).

The one time I got teary was when the Oriental couple (can someone tell me if they are japanese, chinese or what) said goodbye to each other.  That was extremely moving.

I also loved how we saw everyone's airport stories.  Some very interesting events (especially the blonde girl telling the airport official about the arab guy).

I am curious to see the finale, and wonder what the "monster" will turn out to me.  I'm also curious what happens with the raft (will they show them at sea or will they return to the island).

Hell!  I'd enjoy just "auditioning" for a Broadway show!

:)

When I was still toying with the idea of being a chorus gypsy, I would do an audition once or twice or year.  In NYC.  For a Broadway show.  -Usually it was for Miss Saigon since there was always an open, non-union call.  However, sometimes, I would call in a favor to a casting director, and ask to audition at the end of the day.

Talk about humbling.  It was almost, in a sense, self-destructive.  ;)  The nerves I would have to deal with were unlike any nerves I've ever had to deal with.  Of course, it was also made worse by the fact that I usually knew some of the people behind the table - especially the conductor/music director.

But I never fell completely on my face, and I actually garnered an actual callback once!  But it's been years since I've auditioned in that type of situation.  And I have a feeling it will be a long time until my next one.

 :P

...I'm walkin'... yes, indeed, I'm walkin'...

But it also looks like I'll be playin' a lot too.  Which is fine with me.  Hey, being a 'walker' isn't a bad deal at all, but I'd always rather play and be at the theatre each night.

Hmmm...interesting speculation Jennifer...I know that one character is going to kick the bucket on the finale...but that wasn't who I thought it would be...but you never know.

Here are my guesses for that I "think" will happen on DH...just guesses mind you..

I think Paul will die and Mike will be accused of his murder. I also think Mike will discover that Zack is his son.

And speaking of Zack, I read that the actor who plays him was arrested in New York for drug possession!

That just means she's not likable enough to carry her own show as others have gone on to do. Although I don't know how Genevieve's show is doing. It looked pretty dire when I tried to watch it.

I was thinking that either Paul or Bree's husband might die.  Paul, since we know he is gonna be tied up. And Bree's husband (since he is having a heart attack).

For what it's worth, my sis says that Zack's daddy (is Paul right) is definitely coming back for next season. So I guess it probably isn't him.

Why would you think Mike would be Zach's dad?

I suppose Mrs. Huber's sis could kick the bucket.   Or Roger Bart.  I was really think that it could be him (since bree and hubby will be might mad when they find out he was being a bad pharmacist).

LOL DR RODZINSKI....Genevieve's show was bad.  I never watched all the way through.  It was a hideous concept to begin with....badly executed.

I have switched to HGTV and I love to watch House Hunters - although it is a "staged" show as well....with couples who have just bought a house looking at a couple of more.

And there is a new one about what the same amount of money will buy in housing in six different cities....VERY interesting.

Re: Hildy

Well I did love Vern, and still love Laurie.  But other than those two, I have always loved Hildy.

I don't know how you can say that her designs are always bad and impractical.  Yes, once in a while she does a "feather" or "flower" room.  But I'd say she does that very rarely.  I actually love most of her designs.

The one who drove me crazy last week was Kia.  She clearly couldn't have cared less what the home owners wanted and that annoyed me.

I do like the new format (giving the designer more hosting duties and having one carpenter per designer). But i really miss Paige, and wish I knew the real story about why she left.

DR Jennifer,
The reason I was thinking that Mike might be Zach's dad is because the woman that died at Paul and Angela's house was Mike's ex-girlfriend. Zach/Dana was stolen from a lady who was a drug addict (Mike's ex was a drug addict) and I am presuming she had gone to Paul/Angela's house to retrieve Zack/Dana.

Of course I could be wrong. As Jed says it does seem too obvious now that I look at it.

I don't get the "Depp as Wonka as Jackson" thing at all.  I've heard it before, elsewhere, but Depp still has a nose in this picture.

What I'd heard was that Depp and Burton were going for something else that's creepy, a la Marilyn Manson.  But that could be because Manson wanted to play Wonka himself (using the term loosely, of course).

Cool flipping of the pond even if the prefer the original.

DR Jennifer,

Zach/Dana was stolen from a lady who was a drug addict (Mike's ex was a drug addict) and I am presuming she had gone to Paul/Angela's house to retrieve Zack/Dana.

Since there is obviously a lot going on during each episode, how do we know that Deirdre (mike's ex) was killed at pual and angela's house?

I knew she was found in their trunk. But i must have missed the other part.

But wouldn't Mike know if he had a child.  That part doesn't make sense.

Well, Mike might not have been aware that she was with child. They were ex-boyfriend/girlfriend, so he may not have been in contact with her for quite sometime and it sounds like she might not have been in contact with her family either. Also Mike might have been in jail during the period that she had the child.

But who knows what twists and turns the show might take.

Re: "Desperate Housewives" -- I've read Paul is going to get his "comeuppance" in the final episode.

Zach's daddy could still return if he is, in fact, Mike.  And how could it be Mike?  Well...let's see...Mary Alice "stole" the baby from someone.  And Paul murdered the woman Mike has been searching for...a woman who had been a drug addict.  Mike also loved her.  The baby could have been hers and Mike's together...Mike needn't necessarily have known she had the baby if he was in prison for murder (although he was probably set up to take that fall).  Mike still may not know, but may still be Zach's father.

Thank you, thank you -- merci! -- to one and all, and all and one for your sweet cheers and greetings on the day I'm one year younger than next year! (!?!)!

I had a splendidly splendid day indeed -- Don't I sound velly British here?! --: as most of you may know, I am not Parisian born (I'm from the South West of France) and my Mom (79) arrived today, with a group of Golden Age people from my hometown -- just a koînkidink! -- to visit the city of Versailles for 4 days!

Since I live 15 minutes away by train from Versailles, I was able to see my Mom at her hotel and have lunch with the group: very passable food -- cafeteria style -- with a plain apple pie which tasted like cardboard.... but the company was fun!

Was able to go back home around 6:00 pm and be at work at 8:00 pm! You need to know all of that, don't you?!

Let's hope Dear Reader Tomovoz feels MUCH better tomorrow and can keep some solid food in his body...
He still was able to take a shower AND a stroll in the hospital garden, though, in spite of the tubbing he has to carry around!
Another biopsy showed that he's "all clean" and that's quite reassuring!

I was visiting hell earlier and you'll never guess who I ran into - vixmom.  Isn't life filled with coincidences.

I've been quite busy - lots of morning phone calls, then I roughed out and finished the play.  Then I did banking and picked up a Fed Ex envelope, then I ate, and then I began entering the final proofing person's corrections and fixes.

Hi fellow dear readers.

I've finally had a chance to catch up a bit.

~~~~~~ Good vibes to Elmore and Tom, even though they are late.
Jane, Bogie is a handsome gentleman. Glad to hear he ate for you.
JRand, I'm not surprised it's raining in Indiana. Hope you are staying dry.
Rodzinski, we thought the same thing about the pond when we took the photos.
Today I went to the church and spent three hours hand-watering some of the plants that were planted last week. I sure hope they get the automatic watering system installed soon -- the heat and sun gave me a splitting headache. And it's only 97 degrees today!
Rodzinski, if you're not listening to WMKV, you're missing an hour of music featuring Bea Wain, vocalist for Larry Clinton's orchestra!
I have to say, Jane, I don't know where Oakland, NJ is at all. In which part of the Garden State is it?
No. Bergen County at the base of the Ramapoo (spelling?) Mountains.  It wasn’t too far from Wycoff, Paramous and Hackensack.
A quick hi folks because for whatever reason the power is going on and off.  I think there was a wreak someplace nearby because I could hear all the sirens.
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]
Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to DR  FRANCOIS DE PARIS!  Many, many, many more![/move]
I have decided to move to France, BTW, after hearing that ya’ll get an average of 32 paid vacation days a year!  That would work for me!
BK, I don’t know how I am going to be able to keep my promise to you that I would come and see your next play when I’ve already promised that I would go back to NY in October.  Unless it’s going to BE in NY in October?
Gosh, there are so many things to wish for, I don’t know what I would really, really want.  Some simple, some quite dramatic.   Some I could tell you, some I couldn’t share with anyone.
I’d better scoot while the power is still on.  It’s shut off 3 times already and I know that’s not good for my computer—I’d better power down myself and call it a night.
Have a wonderful evening all!  :)
Ozderek a big Ozzy hug back to you for passing along Tom’s news.
Keith called me to join him outside.  He was very  excited as we had over 100 Cedar Wax Wing birds flying around.  They are beautiful.  Sorry, no time for pictures.
I have endured and finished the two hour "event" of Alias.  It was not a two hour "event" - it was two one hour shows back to back.  All they did was delete the opening credits of the second hour.  That, if you ask me, is rather distasteful, advertising-wise, if not a downright lie.  Even with the two back to back one hour show masquerading as a two-hour "event" there was no event.  There was yet more bathos, there were a couple of non "surprises" which were tiresome, and a hint that there will be a "surprise" in next week's season finale.  The "surprise" should be no "surprise" to anyone with a brain.  This show has run its course - put it out of its misery or bring some new blood in on the creative staff.
Why does EVERY show think it must end the season with a cliff hanger or SHOCK or SURPRISE that usually means nothing and leads to nothing?  Wouldn't it be better just to have good writing and good acting so that we look forward to a show returning in the fall?   Maybe it's too much to ask for.  Maybe that's why I usually watch the OLD shows again and again.
I am in unemployment hell....but next week I start working on a show I am directing for the summer, and once that show is over, I am choreographing PIPPIN, so I have sort of decided just to take the rest of the summer off from SERIOUS job hunting.....do it casually....and just have some theatre fun.
It's not as if I am fending off job offers, but that's okay.  I will live vicariously through the jobs of the DR's and all of MR BK's activities.  AND I may even get some writing of my own done!
Well, sort of poopy here at haineshisway.com tonight.  It's very hot here in the City of Studio.  Even the home environment is stultifying.  I put on the air, but it gets really cold really fast.  I also don't react well to the air.  Then I turn it off, then it's hot again in ten minutes.  I'm going to get something sweet to give me some energy.
Sounds like you will have a fun summer JRand54!
Ya, it is odd that every show now seems to end the season on a cliffhanger. It never used to be that way and I don't know when that really started happening.
Fox did a good job with MYRA BRECKINRIDGE. But when are they releasing VALLEY OF THE DOLLS which had been announced actually for a 2004 release, and it never arrived.
WITHOUT A TRACE certainly had an unnecessary shock ending tonight. Yep, it has become the ultimate cliche that some member of the cast of a drama is put in harm's way to keep viewers hanging on all summer until the show returns to sort things out.
Cheap tension techniques, if you ask me. . . .
Yes, I cannot stomach those season finale promos - thank heavens I don't watch any of that stuff.  It certainly never used to be that way.  The season would end.  A few months later the season would begin.  If the show was good, audiences would return.  Simple as pie, really.  The hype, with that voice over guy who should be run out of town (well, it's not his fault - run the idiot network youngsters out of town), it's just vomit-inducing.
Good Evening!
Back from the show...  Good show.
And for tomorrow night and the Saturday matinee, I go back to Keys 2.  Then I'm back on Keys 4 for the rest of the weekend shows.  When I mentioned that we would be switching around quite a bit in the pit this week to the Sound Op, he just said, "Well, whatever chair you guys end up in when the music stops it the Keyboard you're gonna play that night."  :)
DR Joey - What you "did" on the previous page was not coming up for me in Safafi (Mac), and then when I tried it in IE, it didn't really do anything either.  At least here on this end.  However, it does seem to have put my browser window in widescreen mode.
Sweeps week, my ASS.  That's a reason to desert haineshisway.com?  I believe these shows have about six minutes of commercials every eight minutes.  I have been reading to - certainly I have not been watching anything that has to do with sweeps week my ASS.
