Well, you've read the notes, the notes came upon you unawares, and now it is time for you to post until the unaware August cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INDUSTRIOUS!
-
Welcome 46 GUESTS!
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR TCB, is Buddy okay?
-
I had thought I would go to my pharmacy yesterday morning and pick up several prescriptions, but my legs were aching so much I decided to wait until Tuesday, when I have my doctor's appointment since the pharmacy is only a block away. As a result I am out of my painkillers and last night nothing would stop the pains in my right leg. I was awake most of the night, so I will probably spend most of the day napping.
-
I did have a curious dream sometime between 4:00 abd 5:45 this morning. I was with my neighbors Ann and Jen from the fifth floor and teaching Jen how to use a walker. Michael Vita, who was a teenager in the original Broadway cast of Bye Bye Birdie ands whom I knew from the 1984 John McGlinn album Songs of New York, was also in the dream. I haven't thought of him in nearly forty years.
-
I spent a part of yesterday playing with my A&T book, revising and cleaning up missing quotation marks and other punctuation, but I mostly lay about with the cats. Today, before my lack of sleep catches up with me, I will pay my first of the month bills and make an effort to clean off my worktable.
-
Welcome back, DR singdaw!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I woke up at 7:30 am on the dot, which was good because I forgot to set the alarm.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
My fears about traveling turned out to be unfounded. Smooth trips both ways, everyone masked, no adult tantrums to be seen.
-
It was a delightful week with great weather, good food, long beach walks, and family time.
-
I didn't manage to post a lot here at HHW, but I did keep up with the notes and the posts.
-
I enjoyed MR BK's story about the $6000 - until the very end.
-
Vibes for Buddy and DR TCB.

The wedding was nice. As I was tying my shoes, I had a terrible pain in my lower back.....so I was in pain for the happy event.
I think I've been spending too many hours in my computer chair because the pain subsided as I slept and started again when I sat down....[and they laughed].
So I switched out the chairs.
-
When my sister and I got to the venue - there was NO podium or stand of any kind for the officiant. But I had brought a music stand just in case.
A Virgo is nothing if not prepared.
The gentlemen in the wedding party did NOT wear jackets, so i didn't put mine on either.....

Hello, August.

I love August. It is the month of my natal anniversary.
-
All of my expectations were met.

Happy Sunday to one and all! There's a brand new Broadway Radio Show up in the website. This edition is one of my At This Theatre episodes where were look back at the history of one of Broadway's grand theatres. On this show we celebrate 100 years of the beautiful Music Box Theatre, built as the home of Irving Berlin's Music Box Revues and now the current home of Tony Award winner Dear Evan Hansen. Enjoy!!!

Thank you, DR Donald.
-
Nice, DR Jrand70. And nice to be prepared.
-
The town where we were staying is what you might call an exclusive enclave. The housing is way expensive. The rentals are expensive. The shops cater to people who have way too much money. In short, I am not their target demographic.
In any case, there was a new shop this year: a chain boutique called "Toastique." It's a gourmet toast and juice bar. I grabbed a menu, but didn't even contemplate eating there. You can get $20 avocado toast.
Immediately next door is a gourmet shop catering to folks who want to buy a gourmet ice cream sundae. For their dog. There are low metal tables for the canines to enjoy their treats. Honestly!
This was all observed drive-by. I didn't walk in the commercial district, because no one was wearing a mask.

-
Good morning, all.
-
Thank you for the update, DR Jrand70. I almost feel like I've just had a quick visit back home. :)

PRECISELY, DR singdaw.

DR Jrand I hope your back is better after changing out the chair. Thanks for sharing the photo. It was nice to see you performing the wedding.

I hope prices aside it was a nice place to visit.

Last night we went to a 40th birthday garden party. The invitation stated vaccinated people only. Since it was in Portland I doubt our friend even has friends that are not vaccinated. Some people walked in wearing masks, however, only one worker kept her mask on.
-
We had a very nice time. It was also nice spending time visiting with her sister whom we haven't seen in years.

I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.

Well, here's a find! The video s a bit ragged, but it's the only color presentation of John Cranko's comic ballet Pineapple Poll that I know of. The ballet is based on a poem by Sir W S Gilbert and Sir Charles Mackerras adapted the score from the G&S operas. It's about a ship's captain so handsome that all the women love him and disguise themselves as sailors to be near him.
BK, I think you will love this!

There may be some more photos of me in action when the photographer posts her output. We shall see.

I am home from my first rehearsal as Kolenkhov - I ALMOST hit the breakfront with my hat! ALMOST. I shall keep trying!

Alvin Ing passed away - lovely man - 89 years old, a great run. We had the pleasure of having him in a Kritzerland show and he was delightful.

Oh, no. He was in both Broadway productions of Pacific Overtures. :(

Yikes!! :o
-
I'm home, for now.
-
I went to my sister's to help remove leaves and pine needles and other crap from the roof of her daugher's chicken shelter.
-
Here's one angle:
-
Here's one angle during the process (I didn't think about a complete "before picture," though):
-
Here's one after most of the big stuff was removed:
-
And here's at the point when I stopped:
-
I was using the hose to wash off most of the stuff, but I couldn't get behind the shelter, so Larry, my sister's boyfriend, pulled off the last of the stuff using a pushbroom with a very long handle.
-
I'll go back at 6:00 or so and we'll put big 2-foot-square rubber tiles on the roof to (hopefully!) muffle the sound of the walnuts as the fall from the tree above.
-
They're pretty light, but we'll have to figure out how to put all of them on that roof, and secure them so that they don't slide off.
-
Now, I'm going to read a couple more chapters of Project Hail Mary before I go back to my sister's.
-
:)
-
Thank you for the Pineapple Poll, DR Elmore!
-
Reading about DR vixmom's day has made me quite tired.
-
And I feel badly about the sunburn.
-
DR George the amount of work you do for those chickens is impressive :) Do you get fresh eggs or are they all for your niece?
-
I was expecting it to be uncomfortably hot last night. Fortunately our temps never reached the expected highs, and it cooled down. The outside gathering was very comfortable and the sun never too bright.
-
The birthday girl just now texted. It seems she is rather tired after her big day.
-
:)
-

They're for my niece and sister, which I don't mind. I don't normally eat many eggs on my own.
-
I love fresh eggs but imagine your vegan niece would be hesitant to share them.
-

I'm sure she wouldn't mind, if I asked. I just never asked.
-
:)
-
No wonder the birthday gal is exhausted. While us old folks, by far the oldest people at the party, we were the first to leave. The party lasted until 1:30.
-
I thought vegans didn’t eat eggs, or honey or milk
-
I thought vegans didn’t eat eggs, or honey or milk
I've read that honey may or may not be considered vegan, but my sister and her daughter aren't strict vegans. They do eat cheese and some seafood. They're essentially pescatarians, and many pescatarians also eat dairy and eggs.
-
Well, I'm finally home and am staying home until I leave for work in the morning!
-
Here's the finished padded roof:
-
Hopefully, it actually works! :-\
-
Always glad when a job is complete.
-
Unlike the going through of all this household full of stuff.
-
I cleared a section downstairs and arranged Dad’s collection of Zane Gray together. It had been in three separate spots.
-
Mom agreed to recycle a bunch of German magazines with the dated title of Die Hausfrau, or the Housewife.
-
Annaliese made it through the record collection and through an entire shelf of binders with more tax returns. Three more shelves of those to go.
-
Gratuitous post No. 101!
-
Behind a row of binders I found more books. It’s exhausting thinking of what he kept.
-
And what she kept.
-
I had to stop. The dust was getting to me.
-
Today progress was made.
-
Among the items found was a two-disc album of Threepenny Opera in German with Lotte Lenya as Jenny. It was recorded after the Theater de Lys revival.
-
I’ll keep that.
-
I’m fading. Lots o’ work tomorrow.
-
Good night, all.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
John G, I can relate to what you're going through. I am an only child so the "going through" task fell completely to me. But at least there was no one to argue with.
I hope you and your sister know of a few good thrift shops. My mother had so may clothes --she'd never get rid of anything -- that I split her clothes up among several shops, as I figured there would be too many for any one shop to handle. She used a deep closet in the den, as well as several other closets. When I went through the den closet it was like the magician who keeps pullling scarves out of the hat -- neverending. Another box and another and another. Some probably hadn't seen the light of day in twenty years.
-
After my dad died I found some treats. One was a film strip of the MGM lion roaring. I had rummaged through that drawer many times looking for one thing or another and had never seen it.
I wish I'd seen a few seasons of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW before all this because I know I gave some valuable items to charity. Some I wish I'd kept, but it would haver been too expensive to ship them across the country.
-
I'm glad you have your sister's help, as the process can stir up many memories.
-
I've been watching an old British TV series, THE CHAMPIONS. a sort of scifi thriller from the last sixties. It's rather campy and fun.
-
A good week ahead to all.
Good night.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Went and put gas in the motor car. My Studio City Arco is now something else, but prices are still the same and about forty cents less than elsewhere.
-
But 4.39 for gas is obscene and shame on California for allowing it - our stupid governor is quick to be the first to overreact to everything regarding this pandemic, but heaven forbid he should actually show some strength to help people and come on strong to these oil companies. I do believe that no other state in this nation comes close to our gas prices and it is SICKENING.
-
How much if you gas price is due to taxes?
-
I fell asleep for another several hours
-
When I woke up the sunburn was really painful, especially on my thighs
-
Fortunately I have an unopened bottle of Solarcaine Aloe
-
Even though the bottle was kept at room temperature it felt like ice going on my skin

The cost of a gallon of gas at the Tumwater Costco right now (according to Gas Buddy (https://www.gasbuddy.com/home)) is $3.59. Other regular gas stations in the area range from $3.64 to $4.09. Years ago, I'd read that Washington state has some of the highest gas taxes in the country, so I'm always surprised when someone says that their area is higher.
-
When I woke up the sunburn was really painful, especially on my thighs
I just looked in the mirror and pretty much my whole head is sunburned! :o
-
I totally forgot about putting on any sunscreen! :P
-
I don't have anything like aloe, so I put on some Neosporin...I hope that it at least helps.
-
Yes, gas taxes here are insane, too. And the greedy oil companies are trying to make up for all the money they lost when prices plummeted during the majority of last year when no one was driving anywhere. They got to under three bucks here. And that's where they should be now.
-
DR TCB, is Buddy okay?
Hmmm! Perhaps I need to go back and see what I wrote during my 2+ pages of posts last night.
-
If I implied that I beat or hurt my little Buddy last night it was not so.
-
I was using a form of free-flow writing to get from page three to five
-
If you were referring to his crying and howling, yes, he does that all the time.
-
He is a very horny little boy, and his sister has no interest in his sex fantasies.

Very nice, Jrand!
I don’t think I would want to tell the guy in front of the photographer that I needed him to move out of the way.

Washington State comes pretty close.

I have been watching a strange little sci-fi sitcom entitled PEOPLE OF EARTH. It is quite enjoyable in a screwy kind of way.

Well, the smoke from Canada, Oregon and Siberia is finally arriving in Western Washington.
