Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in a state of flux, and now it is time for you to post until the in a state of flux cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ARETE!
-
Topic of the Day: I remember I used to watch Concentration, and Match Game with Gene Rayburn.
-
I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
It's a nice 74 degrees F at the moment, but I'm stuck inside all day working on my Philly Pops chart. Things got quite muddled and complicated yesterday afternoon, but I believe it's all worked out now.
-
DR vixmom, those interviews just keep rolling in! And so did your unemployment. Congratulations. I believe mine ends in two weeks, and that has me worried.
-
BK, the only work I know by Martinu os his comic opera Comedy on the Bridge. You might enjoy it.
-
I found on YouTube this fantastic Czech video of the great Czech comic opera, The Bartered Bride!

-
Good morning, friends.
-
Happy new$ from DR vixmom!!!!!
-
I have nothing else to add this morning, except....
-
For your consideration:
-
Good morning, all.
-
Lousy night of sleep. I think it was just too darn hot.
-
TOD:
Password
Jeopardy
Concentration
High Q, the local quiz bowl
The $25,000 Pyramid
Match Game
High Rollers, a very stupid show with Alex Trebek and Ruta Lee
-
Good morning, all.
-
Today I must fold up and stack the deck furniture and tuck everything in close to the house in preparation for high winds from whatever we get of the hurricane tomorrow. That, and a few other things.
Just what we needed.
-
I liked "Name That Tune."
-
What's Opera, Doc?
-
I loved all of the CBS Night time game shows:
What's My Line?
To Tell the Truth - especially Peggy Cass & Polly Bergen, but NOT Tom Poston who was such a pill
I've Got a Secret - Bess Myerson & Betsy Palmer and Henry Morgan & Bill Cullen.....and Garry Moore
Also in the daytime:
Jeopardy
Concentration
-
Oh...and The Hollywood Squares except when Tony Randall was on.
-
Yup. Loved all those game shows. Though I don’t remember I’ve Got a Secret.
-
I guess it’s time to face the day.
-
Jrand70:
Saw your remarks yesterday on Jack Carter and Sam Levinson.
Sorry you didn't find these two very successful comedians funny.
Luckily, my play is about Jack Carter's somewhat problematic life, not his jokes.
-
Good morning!
-
DR JohnG: I don't really have any definite travel plans right now. I had bought a ticket to Seth Rudetsky's show on September 12th in NYC but it's been postponed till October 25th, so I guess I'll go then but I'm concerned about traveling right now.
http://thetownhall.org/event/stars-in-the-house-live
I hope I can make it to Buffalo for Christmas and possibly Thanksgiving.

I wonder if vixmom and vixdad are similarly preparing to batten down the hatches.
Has any DR actually battened down a hatch? Even from my so-called sailing days, I don't recall battening anything.

Sort of. When I lived in Florida. I evacuated to higher ground, at least. I was living in an apartment at the time. It was when Andrew was threatening. He destroyed a lot on the other coast.
-
Hurricane Charley came through my town after I moved to Texas. My block was spared, but the rest of my old street took a beating
-
Two!
-
I’ve done three racks of dishes and am on a second load of laundry.
-
But off to Costco now
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.
-
She of the Evil Eye has arrived and I shall now be on my way to have a light breakfast.
-
I don't know anything about hatches. Or mizzenmasts.
-
Gas at Costco today was $2.47.
-
I never found any hatches or mizzenmasts, I'm sure we have some around here somewhere -- but I got done what I could. Just a couple more things to do before the end of the day, then it'll be time to sit and wait it out tomorrow.
The power companies are already covering their ASS by predicting long power outages. We've got the generator, but if line go down we'll probably lose internet/phone/TV -- but as long as the cell towers are operating, we'll be able to connect via the cell phones. (I'm covering my own ASS by saying all of this just in case...)

Oh, my goodness!! :)) My mom needs to get this for her cat, Henry! He ALWAYS has to be on the table when we're playing cards!
-
I’ve done three racks of dishes and am on a second load of laundry.
I'm still in bed. ::)
;)

Henri Lite vibes for the HHW'ers on the East Coast.
-
On castrecl today, there was an interview among Frank Rich, Stephen Sondheim and Jonathan Tunick. In that, Rich recalls Sondheim inviting him to the opening of London's Company and the opening night party afterward. In my day, that would have raised a boatload of ethical questions when Rich later wrote about Sondheim's shows, especially as a critic. Anybody else see any possible conflict of interest there?
-
Horse racing DR DRUXY. But then I don't suppose their humor was targeted to Midwestern elementary students.
-
DR JOHN G here is a typical episode of IGAS......with the panel I remember most.
Jayne Meadows and Faye Emerson had their time on the show - but for glamour and fun I'll take Betsy & Bess anytime!

From DR Vixmom:
Also I am pleased to announce the NYS monies did indeed show up in my account
YAY!
-
DR Vixmom will there be more money until you return to work or is this all of it?
-
Henri Lite vibes for the HHW'ers on the East Coast.
DITTO!

???
-
Jrand, I could not agree with you more about Jack Carter - couldn't stand him - abrasive and completely unfunny.
-
Back from bacon and eggs and a half-a-pancake at Uncle Bernie's deli in Encino, and then a visit to a good used CD store, where I got some very cheap used CDs - all classical. They also stamp cards for your purchases so that after ten squares are stamped you get a free whatever. I had two cards that were almost full, so today filled both and I saved quite a bit of money.
-
I'm listening to the seven Prokofiev symphonies again - they're incredible.

Thank you. I look forward to watching this later.
-
Had to work today. Not happy. But thankfully it’s done.
-
Henri is now a category 1. Stay safe, up there.
-
Henri is now a category 1. Stay safe, up there.
The news is blasting out warnings regularly this afternoon. I worry more about DR vixmom on Long Island and former DR Ben on lower Manhattan than I do about myself.
-
Wishing health, comfort, and safety to all of our East Coast DRs facing the storm.
-
SAFE VIBES FROM HENRI AND NOT LOSING POWER VIBES!
-
I was looking through our telescope and spying on the lawn party two buildings over when a woman looked at me and waved.
-
I hope she really wasn't looking a me ;D

Oh, my goodness!! :)) My mom needs to get this for her cat, Henry! He ALWAYS has to be on the table when we're playing cards!
Why not just give her cat his own chair ;)
-
Three!
-
When I was 18 and only had one cat we often ate at the table together. I pulled up a tall stepstool for her to sit at. She seemed to like it.
-
Watching a PBS special from the library called Broadway Musical: A Jewish Legacy. It's good, but, like too many other specials, they have excellent historical footage and then cut away from it to some talking head with little to say.
-
Jrand, I could not agree with you more about Jack Carter - couldn't stand him - abrasive and completely unfunny.
I guess that's why he had a long, successful career.
-
Off to go dancing.
-
Enjoy your fun exercise.

Many people in the show business have had long and successful careers - doesn't mean I have to like them. There are many stand-up comics from Carter's era that I can't stand. It happens.
-
Finished with one motion picture and one of the two Zoom rehearsals.
-
While at Uncle Bernie's deli, I got food for another small meal. Got a pint of chicken salad and two pieces of rye bread and made a sandwich and it was great. Now having some potato salad and listening to Prokofiev's sixth symphony, then I'll watch another movie, then have the second Zoom, then who knows?
-
We have friends that live close to Uncle Bernie's Deli and don't like to eat there.
-
The one time we ate at Uncle Bernie's Deli we enjoyed our brunch.
-
'night
-
Good night, DR Jane.

Nice! I love stamp cards. Red Wagon, the local burger joint, has a stamp card and Tuesdays are double-stamp day! ;D

Henry doesn't want a chair...he wants to be up on the table. My mom actually has a short cardboard box that he likes to lie in, and it helps in keeping him from lying right in front of someone where the cards need to be.
-
Good evening.
-
Our hatches are battened to the best of our ability
-
I spent a lovely day in northern Arizona with good friends enjoying wildflowers, insects, and birds. Our best sighting was a water snake.
Wae-Ling was there. We all wore N95 masks in the car. I insisted on that.
-
Yesterday I filled my gas tank in a virtually empty gas station around the corner from my house for $2.99 a gallon
-
I hope everyone on the right coast stays safe from Henri.
Are they pronouncing it Henry, or Ohn-ree?
-
Today Vixdad had to travel 7 miles from home to find a gas station that wasn’t out of regular
-
And he paid just under $4 a gallon
-
Crazed panic shoppers?
-
Perhaps not
-
This afternoon’s storm maps showed the brunt of the storm looking to go straight through our little hamlet
-
Those of us who remember having no electricity for up to 2 weeks or more during “Superstorm Sandy”, as well as various hurricanes over the years know well the pain of having a generator and not being able to get gasoline because the stations have no electricity to run their pumps
-

Yikes! :o I can't imagine being out of power for 2 weeks!
-
I can't remember exactly, but I think the longest that I've ever gone without power is three days. It's been a long time since that happened, but I do feel fortunate that that's the longest it's been.
-
4our!!!!
-
More of a prudent precaution
-
But the pool has been covered
-
Loose stuff secured
-
Cars are gassed up
-
Food not requiring cooking secured
-
Freezer stuffed with extra ice and cold packs
-
New batteries purchased and installed in the storm lanterns
-
You seem really prepared, Vixmom. I would have no idea what to do!
-
Right now, I'm copying the DVDs and Blu-rays of Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age that I made for several DRs. :)
-
Gratuitous Post #100!
-
More recent forecasts appear to show the storm moving to the east so we may be spared the worst of it
-
Second movie finished, second Zoom finished, now playing: more chicken salad (sans bread) and finished the Prokofiev symphonies and have moved on to an 11-CD set called Leonard Bernstein: The Pianist. Listening to disc one - Mozart piano concertos and I'm kind of enjoying the one I'm hearing now, so maybe I'll start to like some of this Mozart guy - the first two are Mozart, then CD three is Beethoven.
-

I’ve been living here my entire life; we seem to get a strong hurricane every 10 years or so
-
I’m in the center of the island so we don’t get the same flooding that people on the shores do, but we do have to deal with fallen trees and exploding transformers
-
Good night, all.
-
Good night John,
-
Did you open that tube yet?
-
So, all the requested DVDs and Blu-rays for Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age have been burned.
-
According to my list, John, Larry, Singdaw, and Vixmom wanted copies.
-
Anyone else?? :)
-
Conservative radio deejay Phil Valentine has died from CoVid-19. From the start of the vaccinations he railed against them. In his dying days he reversed his opinion and begged his listeners to get vaccinated.
-
According to my list, John, Larry, Singdaw, and Vixmom wanted copies.
Oh, please include me dear George. I would love to see it without pledge breaks.

You got it, Tom.

Jrand, I could not agree with you more about Jack Carter - couldn't stand him - abrasive and completely unfunny.
I guess that's why he had a long, successful career.
That is why we have horse racing. I am sure there are some actors and comedians that we like, that you can’t stand. It would be a boring world DR Druxy, if everyone loved the same thing.
-

A new version of Whack-a-Mole!
-
Good night, friends.
Good night, singdaw.
-
Good night, Jane.

And he paid just under $4 a gallon
Oh! He was in Washington!
-
This afternoon’s storm maps showed the brunt of the storm looking to go straight through our little hamlet
What a great name for a breakfast diner. The Hamlet Omelet
-
Prayers and good wishes to all of you in the path of the storm!

Potato salad was very good.
-
I think we have a dearth of postings.
-
A DEARTH.
-
Why on earth do we have a dearth?
-
What on dearth is going on here?
-
Why have we been abandoned?
-
Forsaken?
-
Forgotten?
-
Why did everybody amscray?
-
Gone with the wind.
-
Away all boats.
-
Deserted.
-
Fish.
-
Good night, John.
-
I was watching Judy Kaye and the original Broadway cast of On the Twentieth Century (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYoRwQWgA5c) from the Tony Awards. ;D
-
I think it was last weekend, when we had a big brush fire up here on the hill.
