Well, you've read the notes, the notes were irritated, and now it is time for you to post until the irritated cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MEMORITER!
-
Happy Birthday to (former?) DR Jan!
-
And where has SHE been? I don't think she's made a single appearance here during the entire pandemic?
-
Today, I'll probably go back to my sister's and niece's to lose a game of Scrabble with them because my mom is coming over to win a game of Scrabble. That's her game. She, who never went to school past 9th grade (in Germany) and had to learn English, is the Scrabble champion of the family. ;D
-
And after that (or I'll leave the game early, if I need to), my friend Margo and I are going to the movies. We're going to see Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds. We'll probably go out to eat after the movie.
-
But first, I must sleep...so I shall.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
starring Ryan Reynolds.
He is very easy on the eyes.
-
Thanks to DR George and DR TBC for filling up the pages last night.
-
The Amazon search algorithms are so weird sometimes.
I searched on Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, but got The Muppet Show Swedish Chef Plush Toy.
-
According to Amazon, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco wrote an operatic adaptation of The Importance of Being Earnest.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept a little later than usual this morning, but it was a bad night. Perhaps it was the news of Peter's death, but I was restless and awake too often.
-
My neighbors Ann and Jen were out running errands and stopped at an Italian bakery. Last night Ann brought me a fresh napoleon from the bakery, God, it was good, but I had a very hard time eating it because a shameless pair of cats, Annabelle and Stella, climbed all over me to get to it. When I finished it, I let them lick the cream and pastry from the plastic container, then we watched Midsomer Murders and went to bed.

I have a few household chores this morning, and then I'm doing little as possible.

BK, I think you'll like Tannhauser, but if you get a recording, get the "Paris version." For the Paris opera, Wagner was required to write a ballet, so he revised the opening sequence and added the wonderful, erotic Bacchanale or "Venusberg Music," and beefed up the role of the goddess Venus as a foil to the chaste heroine Elisabeth. Both the original version and the Paris version have been recorded, and I prefer the revised edition, so you need to check the recordnigs carefully.
I stood through two acts of the last Met production, but my legs wouldn't hold out for the third act, but the score is wonderful.
I like Domingo, so I own this one, but you can see the Paris version under the title on the back cover.
-
The Yale School of Music's quarterly journal arrived in the mail yesterday. This photo graced the back cover.
The caption reads: "Special guests Handsome Dan and Heidi the service dog joined us in Morse Recital Hall prior to the 2021 Commencement."
Yes, that is a Steinway. And Handsome Dan is the Yale bulldog mascot.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Yes to the Paris version of Tannhäuser!
I didn't see it at the Met, but I have their video from the 1980s (?). I had first seen it in concert at the Cincinnati May Festival in 1975. That was my introduction to the Paris version, and that music was fantastic. Amusingly, it was also my first exposure to Kathleen Battle, a young newcomer who sang the shepherd with great charm. :)

LOL DR singdaw....that duck photo is most excellent.
-
I think I used a MEMORITER in my typing class back in 1966.
-
Vibes for MR BK and the irritated fish.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I shall be on my way to a Bored Meeting in a bit - I must write my monthly promotions report.....wherein there is NOT much to report...but that's okay.
-
Followup to yesterday's TOD:
As reported, I took out Lost in America and set it on top of the watch pile. When I went in later to get started on it, I did something I rarely do: I watched all of the supplemental interviews before even glancing at the movie, in order to better familiarize myself with Albert Brooks the filmmaker. (And these are totally worthwhile. Prime Criterion quality.)
All these years, I've really only known him by his role in Broadcast News. Running my eye down his acting credits, I'm stunned to be reminded of his appearance in the Twilight Zone movie. There are a few other big name films, but when it comes to voicing things (as in Finding Nemo), I really don't count that, because I often fail to recognize people's voices in those things anyway. Checking his directing credits, I haven't seen a damned one of those films. So, for years, Broadcast News has more or less defined Albert Brooks for me. Which is fortuitous, because even though he didn't write or direct that, it very much captures what he is all about.
So finally I started Lost in America, and due to other things going on at the time, I only got about 25 minutes in, but it's excellent and very much of a type of film I really like, and I shall finish it later today.
-
Whoa -- I see Criterion released Defending Your Life just this past March. That will have to go on my list.
-
And after that (or I'll leave the game early, if I need to), my friend Margo and I are going to the movies. We're going to see Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds. We'll probably go out to eat after the movie.
I hope it is good.

We met friends for dinner last night. After the drinks and appetizer we shared the rest of the meal was just ok. The company was great :)

That's funny...and it makes for a pretty cool driveway! If something like that actually happened to something that I was having done, I'd seriously consider keeping all the footprints, assuming they didn't adversely affect the structural integrity.

Ed Asner has passed away, while sad 91 years isn't too bad.

I really like Ruthie Henshall. I'll definitely listen to this one. :)

I'm up, I'm up - seven-and-a-half hours of sleep.

Another annoying e-mail in which the person who's caused the problem now thinks HE'S the victim. Unbelievable and I think after this that will be it with this person who I've been working with for six or seven years now.

Good afternoon!

Wow.

I am home from Fort Clark.
-
In need of a nap.
-
I've got a replacement pianist - Lloyd Cooper - he's done quite a few of our shows and knows what's what. And I think he's thrilled to be coming back into the fold, so I do believe I will be done with Richard after this. I can never trust him again, that's the real point. He was slated to musical direct LA Now and Then next year AND Applause - I will now replace him on both, use others for however many Kritzerland shows we do, and others for the new series thing we'll be starting next year.

Cute!
Maybe Handsome Dan could star in the adults-only version "Dear Evan Handsome?"

Your avatar with the very happy smiling face seems especially, er, interesting with a post like this. :)

Congrats on finding a replacement.

Good afternoon.
-
Up from said nap.
-
Time to think about dinner. I was given ribs left over from last night’s dinner. Maybe with a salad.
-
My neighbor bought a plane and parked it on the street.
He also has two gutted trailers, a classic car, a few cars and a big pickup parked. His treasures line this end of the block.
-
Went to Uncle Bernie's deli and had matzoh brei and a bagel. Also, brought home a half-pint of chicken salad for the snack later.
-
Finished both sets of liner notes.
-
Vibes MR BK.
-
Well the unvaccinated man who claimed to have COVID now says he is fine and his doctor says he can come back.....but he doesn't want to take a test so that we know he is negative....
SO the director is now playing Mr Kirby. He was already playing Mr Henderson since that actor's mother broke her wrist and dropped out....
ANYWAY we don't open until a week from Tuesday - so I don't even want to know what else will happen. I DON'T WANT TO KNOW.

Oh my, and you get in trouble for having the "wrong" plants.

I wouldn't want him without a covid test.

THREE!!!
-
Good night, friends.
-
Finished with my viewing and listening to music whilst eating a chicken salad sandwich.
-
Watching a noir called The Suspect. Richard Siodmak directs Charles Laughton as a man who may or may have not have killed his wife. Fun stuff.
-
Siodmak was a terrific director.
-
Listening to the two masters.
-
And after that (or I'll leave the game early, if I need to), my friend Margo and I are going to the movies. We're going to see Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds. We'll probably go out to eat after the movie.
I hope it is good.
So do we. ;D
Well, Margo and I didn't go to the movie tonight.
-
She called me just as I was about to leave for the movie theater, asking if we could reschedule on either Monday or Tuesday or some other day.
-
She didn't say why, but I think that her dog watcher fell through, and she's not yet comfortable leaving her dog (the 65 pound blond lab puppy) alone in the house.
-
So, I stayed at my sister's and we played a second game of Scrabble.
-
I totally lost the first game, but came in a very close second for the second game.
-
After the game, I left and went shopping and got some diet Pepsi that was on sale at Fred Meyer.
-
What is this page three malarky?
-
First master is almost done and sounds great.
-
Siodmak was a terrific director.
He was, and he managed to make a good movie of an iffy script.
-
Watching Here Today, which Billy Crystal stars in and directed. He plays a comedy writer who has dimentia.
-
It's fair good, a little maudlin.
-

That's great for Lloyd, but it's too bad that it had to come to this. :-\

**A Dear World reference. ;)

But Yikes!! To be in the next Theater Artists Olympia show, everyone had to prove that they were vaccinated!
-
And I think not just have a negative test, actually BE vaccinated.
-
It's fair good, a little maudlin.
I enjoyed it.
-
But he assembled a great cast including Laura Benanti

She was pretty darned good.
-
I really enjoy that, despite some flaws.
-
And I am late for bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
Good night, John.
-
Almost finished with the second master.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
Get me off THIS damn page.
-
It's Page Four!!
-
This is ridiculous!
-
Barely page four.
-
This young missy weather forecaster said that this coming Friday we will hit 80 degrees for probably the last time this year.
-
Even before global warming, we would often get really warm temperatures throughout the month of September, and even in to October.
-
September has often been the warmest month of the year.
-
She is very young, and I am not sure she is from this area.
-
Did anyone watch WICKED IN concert tonight?
-
I recorded it, but I wasn’t in the mood to watch it tonight.
-
I watched a good documentary about Mike Wallace tonight, instead.
-
I also watched a documentary about the biblical cities of Sodom and Gonorrhea.
-
The children have been on a tear all day.
-
I got up at 6:30 this morning because they were already starting.
-
Oh well, at least they are healthy.
-
They are healthy and I am unhappy.
-
Lucky I have only two children to worry about.
-
Did anyone watch WICKED IN concert tonight?
Damn! I totally forgot to set my DVR! :(
-
Hi, Tom.
-
What channel/station was Wicked in Concert on?
-
Tomorrow I need to go to the store and pick up some liquid refreshments to have on hand.
-
That means cranberry juice, 7-Up, and coffee creamer.
-
Well, what do you know? It looks like the whole concert is on YouTube here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfeU17_IdGc
;D
-
Oh it is a wild time at Grande TCB.
-
Actually I don’t have much on the schedule the whole week.
-
Oh it is a wild time at Grande TCB.
Party hardy! :D
-
I guess I will just rest up the whole week to get ready for Labor Day weekend.
-
Well, what do you know? It looks like the whole concert is on YouTube here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfeU17_IdGc
;D
The pledge breaks are included in this video. ::)
:P
-
Fortunately, they're easy to remove. ;)
-
Next week I have some more doctor appointments, or tests.
-
Page five!
-
I just searched my DVR and Wicked in Concert will be broadcast again next Saturday! Whew!
-
If you have it on YouTube why do you care when it is shown again?
-
C R A N B E R R I E S .
-
I am finished.
-
Don’t blame me if our post total is low.
-
Good night.
-
If you have it on YouTube why do you care when it is shown again?
Just to have a back-up, and while the YouTube video is 1 hour 23 minutes, it includes a couple of pledge breaks. The PBS broadcast is scheduled for 2 full hours and might include some extra material that this YouTube video doesn't include.
-
And I want to make sure that if there is extra stuff, I don't miss out on capturing it. :)
-
So, I jumped around a bit in the video, and one of the performers (who shall remain nameless ::) ) just said, "The first time I heard Wicked, I went out and bought the soundtrack on CD at Barnes and Noble...."
-
SOUNDTRACK?? :o
-
The performers and other people talk in between the songs about their experiences with Wicked.
-
The very next person to talk ALSO referred to the Wicked "soundtrack." ::)
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
New notes could not be more up.
-
Are the notes up, yet??
-
;D
