Well, you've read the notes, the notes were recorded and state of the art, and now it is time for you to post until the state of the art cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SIDHE!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Well, I slept rather well, with a couple of strange dreams. I only remember bits of the one set a Goodspeed, where I guess I was orchestrating a show, but in the first part I believe I was on a train where Debbie Gravitte was learning music theory from Rob Berman. Then, at Goodspeed, I was in the audience for a concert, and then a young lady showed up, looking for info on her older brother who had died there about six years earlier. There were also a couple of chubby actresses playing mother and daughter in something.
-
DR Laura, I like DR TCB's suggestion of going to the theatre box office very much. My other thought was that surely one of your children can help you with the phone? My goddaughter Charlotte has so much more knowledge about computers and other devices than I will ever learn.
-
Well, DR ChasSmith, I do believe our PUA runs out tomorrow. Have you gad ant word from your state's Dept of Labor?

Good morning, friends.
-
DR TCB, I am very sorry you are not feeling well.
~~~MEDICAL VIBES~~~ that you are soon feeling much better.
-
I don't know anything about The Story of Adele H., but it is interesting to me that the story, at least superficially, appears to bear a strong similarity to the story of Sondheim and Lapine's Passion.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Big fan of The Story of Adele H. But it is sad.
-
Good morning.
-
Ha! I must not have been the only person to complain. They will mail paper tickets to me, except for the Hamilton one. They'll hold that one at will-call.
Good morning, all.
The box office is closed to in-person transactions.
That is deplorable, DR Laura. But at least you are making some progress.
-
Oh yes, same thing here. But I (as a more or less honest person) had to stop claiming several weeks ago when Connecticut reinstated the requirements for reporting on three employment-finding efforts each week. I don't know how many states did this. But due to the nature of my own freelance gig-worker activities, looking for employment in the sense that they understand it isn't what I do. When I have a music-directing project or even if just playing a show, that's it and I'm not ever really out looking. And the informal networking that people like me do, that keeps us in the game, isn't something you can itemize and account for. I was eligible for the benefits thanks to the federal PUA thing, and it was a godsend. But by the standard state unemployment rules, because I'm not a "wage earner " (I have no W2s), that's it for me, sorry to say!
-
Good morning!
I can't improve on anyone's list of Lieberson titles, and I very much agree with DR Elmore's RCA Lincoln Center list. Those recordings, in fact, have grown on me a thousand-fold in recent years.
Of course there are many cast albums I've loved forever, but I haven't necessarily listened to them in the years since I've developed a better sense for the recording quality.
-
I have begun "Annabelle & Thatch" submissions again. The book is better now, and I'm hopeful. I've done seven since yesterday afternoon. The impossible agency is ICM. I defy antone to find a literary agent on their site:
Well, that's good news! Are you seeing My Fair Lady? My friend John Bell is conducting it.
A question for the class --
Who here is familiar with the Off-Off-B'way Boy Meets Boy from 1975, and how good a show is it? I don't know it, and I've been asked to consider it for a slot next year.
-
I don't know it, but if you hum a few bars....
-
I'll be here all night, folks.
-
We got our lease renewal letter, with a few options.
But the monthly rent was going to be higher if we renewed for 18 months than if we renewed for 12.
I thought, that can't be right.
8 rounds of emails later, it was still not resolved.
So yesterday, I went down to the office, put the letter in front of them, and asked them to explain it.
Oh... I guess we transposed the two lines...
Not only did they not apologize, but their excuse was, It's very busy down here.
-
The DH has been spending full rehearsal days at the Temple, as the High Holidays start next week.
-
We're supposed to have temperate weather conditions here for the full holiday weekend.
-
TWO!!
-
The full choir returns at my church gig right after Labor day.
I'm not sure how I feel about that.
The sanctuary seats 1,300, so there's plenty of space to spread out. The director plans to have us all spaced quite far apart, and masks will be required in the building at all times. So we'll see.
I not only know the show, but I know Bill Solly, its composer, a really lovely man, and I once arranged a medly from the show for the NYC Gay Men's Chorus, who also staged a wonderfully funny production. That said, I am not crazy about the show or the score.
-
I don't even know if the performance materials for Boy Meets Boy have a piano part or simply lead sheets. I write the medley from lead sheets.
-
Long before I met Bill Solly, I saw the funniest workshop of a musical he'd written about Exodus, Mrs. Moses, from her viewpoint. It was outrageously funny, and Mrs Moses was played by Vicki Lewis, whom I'd never seen before. We didn't become friends until she was dating Lewis Stadlen.
Speaking of Vicki Lewis, BK, has she ever done a Kritzerland show?
-
Ha! I must not have been the only person to complain. They will mail paper tickets to me, except for the Hamilton one. They'll hold that one at will-call.
Excellent!
DR Elmore, yes. I'll bring him some cookies. Didn't you have two friends in that show?
Vibes for Elmore
I'm up, I'm up - maybe seven hours of sleep.
-
Oh I'm late. I got up at 9:30 a.m. - which is practically NOON (said like Don Loper in "I Love Lucy") in these here parts.
Vibes for DR TCB.
Vibes for DR ELMORE in his quest.
-
I am so glad that DR LAURA made some progress in her ticket debacle.
I think this is what happens when they put somebody YOUNGER in charge of something. They just ASSUME that everybody can and/or will bow to their technology.
And you know what happens when you ASS U ME.
-
What great notes!!!!
I fell in love with so many of the OBCs that are mentioned in the notes and by other DRs.
It was as close to being in a theatre that this kid from Indiana was ever going to get in those days.
GYPSY is probably my favorite. Of course THE SOUND OF MUSIC and BYE BYE BIRDIE were so much fun!
I kept buying the new versions of COMPANY - until the revival with Doogie Houser.....there's just no way anyone can beat the original OBC.....for me.
CANDIDE - yes! Now I want to play them all over again.
-
Don't worry DR GEORGE, now that I have seen the photos....my face will be front and center the next time.....Mr Kirby will have to be happy with his head being more upstage.
-
MEGA VIBES DR TCB FEELS BETTER TODAY!
We went to the farmers market this morning. Blocks and blocks of booths. Really fun.
-
I learned about African eggplant, a tiny fruit that looks like tiny tomatoes. You can eat them raw or cooked. We tried them raw. Bitter and enjoyable. One nickname for them is bitter balls.
-
I do not like foods with a bitter taste though it was interesting to read about them.
-
DR Elmore, yes. I'll bring him some cookies. Didn't you have two friends in that show?
They were on Broadway, but not on the tour. I don't know if Adam Grupper is going on the tour or not as Doolittle.
-
A friend who owns a couple of nice pet stores ranted on Facebook yesterday. This is part of her rant.
a long time customer... come into one of my stores and ask me if I could get IVERMECTIN... no mask either. I said no... not just no... but HELL NO!!... and walked away.
I love that she said HELL NO!
I have the album but I haven't listened to it in years. I remember that it's very 1970s...that's about it. :-\
She mentioned she has been harassed by anti-maskers, including giving her terrible reviews on google. Then they got tired of her and moved on to the hospital.
Back from a fun breakfast.
Darn! I wanted to attach a picture to a post, but I got this message:
I wonder if it's because I'm on my phone out in the front yard. :-\
-
I just tried inside the house, close to her modem, and it still didn't work.
-
The picture that I want to add is only 126kb, so it's not that the file size is too large.
-
And I've definitely added pictures from my phone before, so it's not that, either.
-
It is a mystery, DR George.
-
We are having a really GORGEOUS day here today. Enjoying having the windows open. Went for a vigorous walk earlier.
-
I just tried to attach a photo and got the same message, DR George.
-
I wondered if anyone was talking about Willard Scott passing away here yet.
-
Jrand, I had this casting thought on Facebook abut a musical version of MAIN EVENT
Who could have done Eddie Scanlon at Putnam back in the day? Anyone who could also move well and also be able to pull off Ryan O'Neal's boxing trunks?
I think Birdie/Thelma was suggesting you, since when Siri described the costuming needs of the moment, Birdie said "Hmm, you don't know Jack, do you?"
-
I wondered if anyone was talking about Willard Scott passing away here yet.
I had no idea.
-
I wondered if anyone was talking about Willard Scott passing away here yet.
He was only 87. Too bad he didn't make it to 100 since he use to celebrate 100th birthdays on The Today Show.
-
That would have been nice.
-
When my dad turned 100 last September (2020), I'd looked for whether that was still celebrated, but I couldn't find anything. Dad passed away Feb 13 2021, but 100 plus six months is a nice run that I wouldn't imagine for myself.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
100 plus six months is amazing.
-
Sorry to hear of your dad's passing, Freddie. I agree 100 is something to celebrate.
-
TCB, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Having had the Covid test I can say that it wasn't horrible--at least mine wasn't. I think a lot depends on who does the swab. I do hope you don't have Covid and soon feel better.
I'm glad to hear that the ticket problem has been resolved. Did they correct the parking, too?
-
Well DR FREDDIE back in the day.....maybe.....
-
ACTING - you know.
How annoying. I don't have to ask, "Doesn't anyone proof things anymore?' because I know the answer. But threy could have at least apologized.
I agree that younger people assume that everyone has and knows how to use technology, but I see this too from companies whose managers are likely to be a bit older. As businesses they of course have relatively up-to-date computers, printers, scanners, etc. But many individuals do not! There doesn't seem to be any thought given to their customers -- what they might or might not have or what they would prefer. Only what works for the company. I encounter this a lot and admit it's become a sore point. I find myself saying, "Thtat doesn't work for me" more often than I'd like.
Jane, I don't understand the animosity toward Ivermectin. Did she feel that the customer was not being responsible? I certainly don't support the harassment she received, but the drug itself has been supported by a number of very credible doctors as being worth, at least, further study. It was used in India with fairly good results. Many people are truly fearful of Covid and I can understand that they might want to have access to a drug should they get ill.
Sampling lots of local brews. A most pleasant and unusual was a Cucumber Gose, which had a nice, salty minerality to it.
The sun came out this afternoon and warmed things up into the mid-70s. Perfect for a lazy afternoon.
I had a nap earlier. I could use another before showtime.
The animosity stems from people saying vaccines are not safe or proven, while at the same time willing to take Ivermectin intended for horses. People have ended up in the hospital after taking it.
An unmasked customer when her store says masks, yes I would say the customer was not being responsible. I think to sell this drug which is intended for animals for human consumption would have been irresponsible.
From what I have read there are currently small studies for appropriate doses of Ivermectin for people with covid. It still hasn't been proven but people with covid can get doctors to prescribe it.
I understand wanting access to a drug if they get sick, but if you are that concerned I would expect them to wear a mask, especially when the local hospitals are overflowing with covid patients.
You are being generous and tactful, DR Jane. I'm afraid I have no sympathy for people that won't even take basic precautions.
And the other way - I have to remind myself that I can't mention a "John Belushi type" and assume everyone knows what type that is.
Having just read the three posts in question, I'm really not seeing any heated discussion, just discussion, therefore dear reader Jeanne, there's no reason not to post and you definitely will want to post to avoid a telephonic call from the likes of me :) This I know you understand.
Hopefully, Jeanne comes back soon.
