Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the Amazon Firestick, and now it is time for you to post until the Amazon cows come home.

It wasn't a bad night of sleep - no loud trucks or construction, thank God! - so I'd call it a so-so night. I was restless and faithful Annabelle and Thatch stuck with me. Stella never came near the bed.

I looked forward to seeing Co-Op on the new Criterion disc, but I didn't watch it too long once I decided it was not as good as it should have been: the shots of the orchestra "musicians" not really playing while the synthesized (?) tracks played, was the man in charge of the music unable to do a good Tunick parody?; the uninspired dialogue . . . it wasn't for me.

BK,I almost watched the new  blu-Ray last night, but I got caught up in the biography of director John Murray Anderson, so I think we'll watch it tonight.

I love Thoroughly Modern Millie, but I do agree with you about the film. I think at 90 to 105 minutes it would be a much better, much sharper and funnier movie. I think Joe Layton's work is stylish, and the costume and set design are really fantastic, the three major elements the maladroit stage version completely missed as they mangled the script.

Excited about the new Kritzerland releases.

I've had nearly all of the CDs from their original release, but I'm really happy that BK is redoing them since so many people are being introduced to them. I still think of Ben very fondly.

Well, this is fun! My friend John Owen Edwards is conducting his reduction of Tunick from the Chichester Festival production, and my friend Jason Howard is singing Carl-Magnus. Susan Hampshire os the Countess, and Maria Friedman is Petra. I am not always crazy about Mr Yap's recordings, but I do like this one and prefer it to the original London cast recording.

I need to take things to the basement and pick up yesterday's mail, only I don't know when the Amazon order will arrive. If I knew they would be here after 9:00 I could go now, but they've been as early as 8:15 for a 9:00 delivery, so I wait.

Nice sound. Great to see Susan Hampshire freed from The Pallisers garb. But the sync of vocals to video was off too many times.

A friend here has a Firestick, and he has the same issue with the audio.

In his case, it's definitely a case of having an old receiver without enough inputs. His receiver is the hub of the system with all sources plugged into it, and the Firestick is a source, along with disc player, cable box, etc.

If an intermission is that early relative to the length of the movie, right off the bat the whole thing is out of balance. It needs to happen at least at the halfway point, doesn't it?

They had the score in front of them. Very different from Company, where the cast didn’t.

The recording used the Chichester Festival production orchestration and conductor, but the cast was not the same. I guess that John Yap called on singers he had used on other recordings. For example, Jason Hughes was on his Show Boat and The King and I, and Bonaventura Bottone was on his English National Opera recording of Street Scene and Scottish Opera Candide.

We had some excitement here yesterday.

Construction trucks were going down our alley doing some regrading or something. We hurried to get to the alley when a BIG bulldozer-type-truck was coming. The driver could see us over the fence, so he slowed down. Then when we opened the gate, he backed up, (Beep beep beep) and waited while Grandson had a chance to look at the truck and touch it.

That's all he talked about the rest of the day.

"Gwamma, it's a MONSTER TRUCK bulldozer!"

So, I had our roofing guy come out this morning. They put on our roof 15 years ago. He took a look and gave us an honest assessment. He told us to let the roofer that the AC company called do the fix. But we don't need to reroof the whole house as their guy said we needed to.

He said he is going to have the rep from the shingle company come take a look, as we lost more of the granules than we should have.

Thanks, DR Singdaw.  It could change, but I’m hoping it does not.

Yes, it should have been replaced but was it obviously their mistake?  Obviously to them, not just you ;)

Yes. The guy knew it on sight.

That is good.

Wednesday morning greetings!  My test was NEGATIVE!

That’s a positive negative result and worth celebrating

I just celebrated with a nap!

All the stress since Richard got sick has probably tired you out.

Well, waking up at 5am today didn't help.

We had Moderna, and Richard's symptoms showed up 6 months TO. THE. DAY. from our second dose.

Interesting on the six months timing.

Let's see - listening to the first of sixteen CDs of the Juilliard String Quartet, the Early Recordings from the late 1940s to 1955, so all mono. But it's the material that's fascinating and a must-have, plus the quartet plays beautifully. You get six Bartok string quartets, and album of Darius Milhaud, an album of Berg, four Schoenberg quartets - but it's all the American composers that make this so special - Copland, Schuman, Mennin, Foss, and others of that era. Amazing stuff in excellent sound.

I am now listening to George Orwell's memoir, Coming Up for Air. It's as funny, at points, as 1984. (I know, I know, I'm one of the few who found that book to be a laugh riot from start to finish.)

Went to Gelson's to see about maybe getting frozen yogurt from Humphrey's, the little stand they have - line out the door. Guess there's no getting frozen yogurt at Gelson's - ever. Instead, got a little Wolfgang Puck mixed greens salad - small but very good.

That's too bad, BK.  A local restaurant used to have frozen yogurt on their menu, but they discontinued it before the pandemic.  But they never got rid of the machine! :o It's still there, right behind the counter.  Very strange.

From Tom:

Quote
No, I don’t think so.  I have enough trouble with this C.O.P.D., without having to deal with COVID, too.

Do you mean you don't think you have covid or that you don't qualify for the booster?  It seems to me you qualify for the booster.  If in doubt ask your doctor.

The question was whether or not I had CoVid.  My answer was no I don’t think so.  I am quite sure I will qualify for the booster, but I need to wait for the moderna to be approved, which they expect to happen in a couple of weeks.  I did not get the Pfizer vaccine.

Yes, they seem to be doing the Pfizer booster first. We'll see when they get around to Moderna, which, of course, seems to be doing a better and longer-lasting job of things.

It's gone DOWN in percent. But they've  been pumping out advance screenings for people who'd be pre-disposed to like it, trying to get positive word of mouth out - exactly what they did for In the Heights - didn't work for that one, even though the word of mouth was great. I don't think the word of mouth is so great for this one.
