Well, you've read the notes, the notes were listening, and now it is time for you to post until the listening cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MAFFICK!
-
Topic of the Day (in my humble opinion):
1776
Fiddler on the Roof
Little Shop of Horrors
The Music Man
My Fair Lady
Oliver!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
West Side Story
-
Good morning, all!
-
I will hopefully have an Access-a-Ride pickup at 9:00. I have my 3-month checkup, and my doctor and I have much to discuss.
-
I don't have many plans for today, but I should try to speak to my recording project's benefactor. I have questions.
-
I love the sound of the OBC Sound of Music. Lieberson really outdid himself with this one and Camelot. The harp is so prominent, and Russell Bennett gave it some delicious solo touches in "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria."
-
TOD
1776
The Music Man
Oklahoma!
Flower Drum Song
Li'l Abner
-
Good morning, friends.
-
All I have to say is: PAMPLEMOUSSE!
-
And so I have done.
-
On This Day in 1956, Li'l Abner opened on Broadway.
-
Looks like Access-a-Ride has once again screwed me over.
-
HA! Frost on the car windows this morning - but I'm not going anywhere.
-
Nice notes. I also enjoy The Sound of Music OBC. I first heard it in 1971 or so when I was doing a production - it is most excellent.
A friend of mine who was an acting student at NYU in the 1990's had Liesel aka Lauri Peters as a professor. All of the students loved her and she was a great teacher, he said. Her first husband, Jon Voight was never mentioned, as far as I know.
-
TOD:
The Sound of Music
The Music Man (1962 NOT the later tv version)
Fiddler on the Roof
Oklahoma!
-
Good morning, all.
-
It's been years since I listened to the Sound of Music cast album. Must do so.
And I agree with DR Elmore that the harp writing is wonderful, and an essential presence, in these shows.
-
I just got back from the car dealership where my car is getting a free recall replacement of one air bag. It'll be there for at least a few hours (or just possibly overnight) so they gave me a loaner - a new Subaru Forester with only 11k miles on it. It's a beautiful machine, but these new things are so damned HUGE.
-
I also just made, and ate, a 2-egg egg sandwich (with melted cheddar and some bits of red onion sprinkled in) that went down like candy. I might just have another one later.
-
All I have to say is: PAMPLEMOUSSE!
The detective or an actual French grapefruit?
-
Good morning, all.
-
God in heaven, do I hate this "service" for old coots! There was never a car scheduled for 9:00, even though I have a confirmation for the pickup time.
-
Good morning!
-
DR Elmore, this latest Just-Try-to-Access-a-Ride thing is distressing. What's to be done? You have appointments coming up that you don't want to be missing. (Duh.) (Like you didn't know that.)
-

DR Elmore, this latest Just-Try-to-Access-a-Ride thing is distressing. What's to be done? You have appointments coming up that you don't want to be missing. (Duh.) (Like you didn't know that.)
I hope that if/when the radiation treatments begin, I can do a subscription or something to get a daily time for the 30 days I'll be in the treatment.
-
And to add insult to injury, I've been on the phone with Spectrum because my remote was not working. The young lady was wonderful, and all is back to normal.
-
Monday morning greetings! We have a quiet day ahead, but I've already accomplished one very important thing - ordering our Thanksgiving turkey to be picked up next Wednesday.
-
DR Elmore, I'm so sorry the ride thing isn't working for you.
-
Forget cherpumple.

If Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had been a VW Bus....
-
DR TCB we also found JUNGLE CRUISE entertaining.
-
Fiddler on the Roof
The Music Man
My Fair Lady
Pygmalion
I am sure had I seen the stage production of Oklahoma it too would be on my list.
-
I love to browse and look at GoldBelly, but have never ordered anything. Prohibitively expensive!

I forgot The Miracle Worker.
Casablanca was a play?
An unproduced play. I saw it staged later. Nope. It didn’t work without the stars.
-
It was called Everybody Comes to Rick’s.
-
The detective or an actual French grapefruit?
I guess I'd take either.

Yikes!
-
Good morning.
-
PAMPLEMOUSSE! WHAT THE HELL IS PAAAAAAMPLAMOUSSE????
-
That Piecaken looks wonderful. However, I will remain loyal to my Cherpumple.
-
The Cherpumple makes such a satisfying "THUD" when you lay the slice on a plate.
-
If Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had been a VW Bus....

That's pretty cool! :D

Lay, or plop?? ;)
-
You're right. Plop.

Has anyone heard Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s Love for Sale?
-
Has anyone heard Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s Love for Sale?
Not yet, but I do want to get it.
-
There are lovely, snazzy arrangements and some lovely, swinging Tony. But Lady Gaga occasionally seems to be channeling an Italian, House of Gucci accent. There’s no subtlety there. Granted, Ethel Merman wasn’t subtle either, but she had more depth of interpretation.
-
I may end up liking the album more on repeated hearings. I’m so picky about my Cole Porter.
-
Love the photo, Laura.
-
Puuuuush!
-
Three!
-
Car is back from the car place, and all is well. Until the next thing, of course.
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven and a half hours of sleep.
-
Not a single order today - only need about three to do what I need to do, but where the HELL are they?
-
When I know I'm out of the apartment for some time, I take a Tizanidine and a Tramadol. The Tizanidine makes me drowsy but the movement keeps me awake. Well, today, after taking my drugs, I didn't go anywhere, andn I spent the entire morning lying down and dozing.
-
DR Ginny, my wonderful; neighbor Ann is reading The Lincoln Highway. She also says it reminds her of the film Oh, Brother . . .
-
All I have to say is: PAMPLEMOUSSE!
I prefer chocolate.

Pamplemousse meringue pie is wonderful.

Got the oak trees trimmed today. It’s been more than a year.
-
I also just made, and ate, a 2-egg egg sandwich (with melted cheddar and some bits of red onion sprinkled in) that went down like candy. I might just have another one later.
Hmmm, perhaps you should try a egg sandwich using Cadbury eggs?

Yikes!
I know. I sent Craig a copy of the article as a reminder to get vaccinated. I have been trying to get him to do it BEFORE flu season.
-
Good morning.
Hello and hello to your cute grandson.

We don't have any more birthdays of current members this month do we?
-
Of course, next month we have, both, the King and Queen of Hainesville!
-
Only one day apart. Well, actually, one year and one day, but we won't mention that.
-
The new Downton Abbey movie preview is out:
https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/15/entertainment/downton-abbey-trailer/
Looks to me like the Dowager Countess has been to Switzerland for some face work.
-
I, too, love Damn Yankees, so I'd add both that and The Pajama Game. I wish Camelot had kept more of the score, and I waffle on My Fair Lady. It's faithful to the show but I wish it were more exciting.

Agree on all of the above.

Ah how could I forget about THE PAJAMA GAME???

Definitely a tonier hairstyle.

Coffee is for closers.
-
I haven't been able to work on my musical....maybe I'll get it done tomorrow.
-
Nice avatar DR LAURA.
-
Hello, eleven guests. Do you have any pets?
-
One order came in for one CD - close, but no cigar. We'll see how the rest of the day goes, but clearly today will not be the day to effect a miracle.
-
There are movie adaptations that I love, but I know they aren’t good movies:
A Little Night Music
The Wiz
Finian’s Rainbow
Silk Stockings and Roberta are decent adaptations I can watch over and over.
-
Of course, next month we have, both, the King and Queen of Hainesville!
;D
A few days later we also have DR Ginny.
-
Only one day apart. Well, actually, one year and one day, but we won't mention that.
Yes, one day a year we are the same age.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Many years ago I read a very lighthearted book which featured the word PAMPELMOUSSE very prominently. I cannot recall the name of the book. Anyone here know it?
-
The new Downton Abbey movie preview is out:
https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/15/entertainment/downton-abbey-trailer/
It looks quite interesting. "Only in theatres" means, I guess, no streaming. At least for a while. I guess I'll wait.

Really? I can't see it. But then, good work shouldn't be obvious. And it's not as if I've seen Maggie anytime recently. Her hairstyle is very different and that gives her a different look entirely.
-
Ride vibes for DR Elmore! I hope you're able to find a reliable, low-cost service of some sort.
-
TTFN.
-
I am taking my sister to new bank tomorrow to open her account, I hope they are as good as their reviews......

I googled your question and found a series of books by Michael Bond about Monsieur Pamplemousse.
-
I guess I'm gonna try to effect this miracle in the morning - and pray that it will work, which I won't know for a few days.
-
~~~MIRACULOUS MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for bk!!!
Gratuitous Post #102!
It's a long way to page five.
I'm afraid I'm not gonna make it.
A better movie than its stage source. But not a great movie.
Just went a little crazy in the motor car. Went to Gelson's and got a few item. Came home and the car locked without beeping, meaning dead battery in the morning. I restarted, backed up, pulled forward and tried again. Nope. Repeated that routine four more times. Nope, Drove around the block. Nope. Went crazy. Tried one more damn time and it finally locked with the beep. I can't take much more of this motor car. Maybe if the miracle later in the week happens strongly, I'll be able to do something about it.
-
Battery vibes for BK.
-
Just finished an odd documentary called On Broadway. Great archival footage, but too often they used scenes from a movie to illustrate shows like Kiss Me, Kate or Brigadoon, neither of which had a sterling film.
And the talking heads included a number of dead people, like Hal Prince and August Wilson, as well as people like Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren. Yes, they've done Broadway, but I don't consider them to be involved in the New York theater as they are on the British stage.
-
An 8-minute extra on covid was more interesting than the rest of the documentary.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Listening to Weissenberg play some Haydn sonatas - don't much care for Haydn but these are okay.
-
The closing on Mom's house is set for Friday. I hope it happens. There are some strange shenanigans afoot with finding the title that don't make sense.
-
Good night, all.
Page four?
So, what else is new?
Last one.
Are you telling me that George is gone AGAIN? He is becoming his own pandemic.
Oh, the prodigal George finally arrives. Perhaps he'll make some postings.
I gotta tell you.
-
Tonight, I worked concessions for a tour of The Hip Hop Nutcracker.
-
It was, of course as the name implies, a modern retelling of The Nutcracker story.
-
They actually used a recording of Tchaikovsky's music and had a new story.
-
They danced in the hip-hop style and it really was very good.
-
There were over 600 people in the audience, and they loved it.
-
Here's their website:
https://hiphopnutcracker.com/
-
There was someone at the top of the show and the end who introduced the show and wrapped it all up, and he said that the show just won an Emmy Award, so I guess a production was on TV this past season.
-
I wonder if it's on DVD.
-
Well, I found THIS IMDb listing (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14071836/), but it's from 2016.
-
It is, however, the same show, so I must've heard the "just won an Emmy" part wrong.
-
That is the most stupid-ass thing I have read since Trump was in office.
-
Anyway, unless you're a stick-in-the-mud, it's highly recommended by the likes of me. :)
-
Of course, next month we have, both, the King and Queen of Hainesville!
;D
A few days later we also have DR Ginny.
I didn’t mean to imply that you were the only December birthdays.
It looks like The Hip Hop Nutcracker can be streamed on PBS's website here:
https://www.pbs.org/video/hip-hop-nutcracker-at-njpac-an-all-arts-presentation-czdp88/
-
It's funny...I originally searched PBS's website and the link didn't come up, but when I did a Google search, it did.
-
It also looks like it streamed on Facebook last December.
-
But I didn't know anything about it, so I never knew.
