Title: THE LAST OF NOVEMBER

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the last notes of November, and now it is time for you to post until the last of the November cows come home.

Kathy Griffin was on JIMMY KIMMEL.  She had lung cancer and she now sounds like Minnie Mouse.

I recorded the episode and will watch it later.  I love her and saw her live in Seattle after she was pretty much banned by everyone because of the former president. :P

Today is another day off for me, so my mom and I are going to the Red Wind casino to give them our money.  I will, however, feed my face with at least $10 worth of free food since I have a voucher for that much.  But it's certainly won't offset what will be used to play the slot machines. ::)

I am up after about 8 hours of sleep (hooray).  I am a bit more bushy tailed than I had been the past week.  Guess I'll need a trim or something.

Haven't yet had my coffee.  My first order of business each day is taking my vitals (blood sugar and blood pressure), so I don't need to confuse any issues with caffeine.  Yes, I'm fine.  But needs must.

We had a genuinely cold night again....29 degrees.  Today, however, is supposed to reach a high in the mid=60s.  The rest of the week will be warmer.  We may have some nights that get down into the 40s only.

As Bruce has already alerted us, today is truly the final day of the month of November in the year two thousand twenty-one.

When I think back, I believe my last cogent memory was a day in early September, although I am mindful that much has happened in the interim.

As you are all aware, WHO and the CDC are warning us about a new variant of the COVID-19 virus.  They have named it "Omicron".  That is a Greek word.  It is pronounced OH'-MEE-KROHN.   Emphasis on the "O".

I truly hope they never have a variant they name "Omega"...because that would be the end. Of the Greek alphabet, at least.

My sister was going on about that. Apparently the Brits started it, and since they speak Greek better than the Greeks, it must be right. Right? After all, the Brits pronounce Genghis Khan and Don Quixote right.

DR RON PULLIAM - I watch a crazy show on the ID Network - I think - called Love After Lockup about folks who start relationships with people in prison and then try to make it work on the outside when said prisoner is released.

It is a trainwreck as you might expect and the delusion is REAL.

One man who thinks he is good-looking and smart and chases a lot of women who love him - because he has a couple of million dollars - said a couple of weeks ago that he was interested in getting married in a church.  And he proclaimed that G*d is the Alpha and the Ro-meo.

On the previous page, DR JohnG said that the British get the pronunciations of things like Genghis Khan and Don Quixote correct.

And yet they muffle things like "oregano".

How, you may ask?

The Italians pronounce it Oh-REG-uh-NO (emphasis on the all-caps).

We Americans pronounce it the same way.

But the Brits pronounce it Oh-reh-GAH-no.

I mean...really.

I did enjoy another night of solid sleep, but only until about 6:30. The usual weird dreams have yet to come into focus, so I have nothing to report in that department. They're not as buried as those of the previous few nights, but they persist in being a little bit unreachable.

Perri. Wow. I remember nothing about the film, and I would probably have never remembered on my own that it even existed. But I know we as a family saw it. Whether that was at a theater or drive-in or on television, I couldn't tell you. Very likely a drive-in, actually.

I went to see Willard while at school in Cleveland, and I can almost guarantee that I had little appreciation then for the style and attitude of the film. I don't even know if I saw Ben later, or either one since. However, I actually have both on my DVR recorded from TCM a while back, and I've kept them with the intention of watching them one of these days. I shall do so soon.

We had bought the double pack of 12 rolls each of the Kings Hawaiian rolls, and I just now polished off the last three -- in the first package! Oy! But they are delicious, and I promise that the rest will not go to waste.

Making these even more of an indulgence, I had also bought Kerrygold butter which is a bit on the pricey side, and the combination is to die for. Or perhaps to die OF...

The strawberry preserves don't exactly suck, either.   Oy!

Interesting factoid.  "Perri" was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Original Music Score.  Paul Smith was the composer.

And I am home. The Access-a-Ride trip to the doctor was right on time, so I arrived an hour early, read my book, and waited. I saw the doctor, accomplished all I needed to take care of.  Nt A1C dropped from 7.2 to 6.6, so she was quite happy. I took care of my appointments and sat in the waiting area for my return trip. It was 1:00 and the ride was scheduled for 1:07.

They told me to call back in 10 minutes for updates. Twice. Around 1:40 the AAR person on the phone suggested she cancel that trip and rebook one for 1:50. I stupidly agreed. At 2:50 I gathered my things, walked to the corner and got a taxi. As far as I know, the 1:50 ride still has not shown up.

It is well and truly my bedtime.  It's 11 minutes past 11 p.m. here in Johnston SC.

I have managed to avoid trouble all the livelong day, no matter who quickly it slid by.

I have paid attention, I have, to Bruce's comments in a past blog post.

I respectfully disagree with his thoughts on Alex North's "The Agony and the Ecstasy".  It is hardly source music to my ears.

But I do agree about the Jerry Goldsmith prologue for "The Artist Who Did Not Want to Paint". It is a fascinating listen.   North does some remarkable score in some parts of the film, but the movie, itself, seems too under-thought out...too under-written...and way too self-conscious.  It is visually sumptuous with gorgeous sets, costumes and cinematography.  What should have been a highlight -- Michelangelo getting inspiration for painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling -- is rather cheesy and somewhat laughable.

But...that's all in the past.  20th-Fox had three roadshow films for 1965 and they were counting on those three films to significantly increase the studio's capital.  The Michelangelo epic is the one they were sure would be their biggest hit.  I don't know what they expected from "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines" and "The Sound of Music", the other two roadshows.

"Those Magnificent Men..." turned out to be the studio's best-reviewed film of that year, and it managed to turn a profit.

"The Sound of Music" was probably something they thought you be popular for a month or so.  It turned out to be the monster hit of all time and made the studio a fortune.

"The Agony and the Ecstasy" MAY have broken even, but didn't enhance the studio's income in the slightest.

Odd, isn't it.

Finished with my viewing. I've had a hankering for cherry pie for weeks - finally got one from Ralph's and am having a piece, warmed up, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - excellent. Listening to the Lukas Foss symphonies - first two are interesting, third is just irritating.

I first went to CastAlbums.org (https://castalbums.org/) to see if there was a listing for the new Fiddler (http://url=https://castalbums.org/recordings/Fiddler-on-the-Roof-1971-Film-Soundtrack/1621/) and there was, but I saw that there was also a new live recording of Brigadoon (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Brigadoon-2019-Vienna-Cast/46419#70626).  It's the 2019 live Vienna cast recording on two CDs.  I think I need to order that, too.

I have never heard of the cast.

I haven't either.  I think it's an opera company.  Here's a YouTube video with a couple of minutes of the live concert:
