Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the desire to never become a geek, and now it is time for you to post until the geek cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CAVORT!
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Sunrise at Stonehenge. Days are getting longer.
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR Laura, what successful news about your roof! I hope all is well now.
-
DR singdaw, I was hoping your tale would end with "the computers are running and we've been given the next two days off."
-
BK, thanks for the Nightmare Alley report. Like Licorice Pizza, it's a film I'll need to wait for the DVD.
-
I'm not dealing well with Christmas this year. I'm a bit worried that Annabelle might be sick; this is the second day in a row that she's not clamoring with Thatch and Stella for breakfast.
-
So, hopefully this might cheer us all up, although ourt producer's lack of enthusiasm to get a production of the show or a commercial release of the CD - I even suggested Kritzerland to handle it - which might lead to a production is one more nail in my coffin.

Good morning, all.
-
I don’t want to move just yet.
-
Vibes for DR LAURA's roof!
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE!
-
I enjoyed the notes and I am happy that MR BK liked NIGHTMARE ALLEY - even with reservations.
-
I am inspired by the friend of DR GEORGE and in 2022 I shall be known as Jac.

Heading to The Home for the last two.....heirs.....
One might be a problem the other one probably won't be.
I know DR JANE, I kind of hoped it was cash and carry, too....but I understand.....

I hope I shall return EARLY today and have tomorrow OFF!!!!

Two-step, everybody! Watch out for those 3/2 bars.

It’s Noche de los Rabanos, y’all!
It was fun to read and learn about this, about which heretofore I had not known.
-
Good morning, all.
-
As we speak, I am greatly enjoying DR Elmore's musical selection.
What a pleasure that musical was. It has GOT to get put back out there.
-
Yes, add Nightmare Alley to the list of films that I, too, want to see. I know del Toro will go to a bit of excess, but that's what some people do, and he certainly knows how to make a beautiful film.
-

But how can you listen to DR elmore3003's song and NOT move?
I hadn’t listened to it yet. Beautiful.

TOD: "Laura"
Waldo Lydecker: [narrating off screen] I shall never forget the weekend Laura died. A silver sun burned through the sky like a huge magnifying glass. It was the hottest Sunday in my recollection. I felt as if I were the only human being left in New York. For with Laura's horrible death, I was alone. I, Waldo Lydecker, was the only one who really knew her, and I had just begun to write Laura's story when another of those detectives came to see me. I had him wait. I could watch him through the half-open door.
-
By the way, I never knew "that" definition of the word GEEK until watching the original Nightmare Alley a few weeks ago. And I didn't even pick up on it in the movie itself, since they'd had to cut its special meaning out of the film. So I wonder if this has been common knowledge all this time, and I'm one of the few who's been unaware of it.
-
I slept fitfully. Why, I do not know.
I had a dream in which contestants who had disappeared from a TV quiz show were discussed. Layers were removed from their personalities in an effort to explain why they were eliminated.
It was all rather silly, really. The explanations were ludicrous, and I got the impression these people were eliminated because the were all too good for the show.
Come to think of it, this may be a convolution of a thought I had while watching last night's "Jeopardy". The current champion simply blows every other contestant away. It is both fascinating and annoying.
My dream may have been a wish fulfillment, of sorts.
Please remind me to drop 5 cents into the box by the door on my way out.
-
I have a hard time limiting myself when it comes to film noir, my list is going to be long. I agree with JRand and Elmore’s selections. The first black and white film noirs that come to mind are:
Road House (the Ida Lupino version)
Pickup on 52nd Street
Night and the City (all of these had Richard Widmark)
Port of Shadows
Brighton Rock
Gilda
Notorious
The Big Sleep
Scarlet Street
Sudden Fear
Laura
Strangers on a Train
Night of the Hunter
Odd Man Out
Sorry, Wong Number
-
The day is brightening, and I'm told it will be a beautiful warm day. No rain.
-
Someone please remind me to remove a rib-eye from my freezer before I go to bed tonight. I can place it in the refrigerator and let it thaw for tomorrow night's grilling at my cousin Debra's.

This entire stream of unconsciousness has been brought to you by me in a pre-first-cup-of-coffee stupor.

A few color noirs:
The Long Goodbye
The Last Seduction
Blade Runner
LA Confidential
Mulholland Blvd.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (a Christmas noir)
The Grifters
Chinatown
Blood Simple
Vertigo
Le Samourai
-
Ron, don’t forget to remove a ribeye from the freezer.

How do you celebrate this radish holiday, John G.?

Eddie Hodges, the original Winthrop in The Music Man, is on the first episode of The Garry Moore Show. He sings Miss Logan from New Faces.

Making broiled radishes with garlic-dill butter and a salad with radishes, mint and pistachios.

From DR Ron:
The VA called me yesterday and set me up to consult with an outside ENT clinic. When the local VA cannot schedule you for an appointment within six months, they refer you to Community Care, which locates a service that the VA pays to treat you. The ENT office will call me in a week or so and set up my appointment.
I didn't know that about the VA. I hope this means you will seen a doctor in the near future.

Thurston County closes Main Chinese Buffet in Lacey because of health code violations!

While I know this must not have been super fun, I find the process of how you are selling items to the family interesting. It is something I have not seen before.

I actually did drive over there (I think on Saturday), but it looked like the place was being cleaned at the time (and I had no idea what was in store), so I didn't even go in to try to get the gift certificate.
-
I have just let the employees on my team go for the holiday.
-
Mom is back in her room. I'm trying to call her.
-
Her dinner just arrived. Since she broke her arm, she was having trouble in the hospital with opening all of the sealed containers. And they really didn't help her any.

I got up off the table and did not feel dizzy after today's treatment. He's having me come back next Tuesday. These treatments have usually been in threes in the past, so I'm not really surprised that he wants to see me again.
He did try something different today. Last time, he tried to include my nasal passages as well as the ears in the treatment. When he heard I was still having some dizziness, he decided to focus strictly on the ears.
-
Back from a breakfast, picking up a few packages - naturally now that I watched Nightmare Alley on the computer, a screener arrived - and then trying to get this guy's book to work on Kindle - I don't honestly know how anyone publishes on that sorry platform. I have an account, so I just did test - PDF was a no-go, Word was a no-go, futzed with the margins per their instructions - a no-go. Did six different tries with different margins, a no-go. I've sent my finished Word doc to the guy whose company formats my eBooks - he might be able to figure it out and send me something that will actually work.

Guess I worded that wrong. I meant it was good you didn't drive over soon, like the day before they closed for cleaning ;)
-
And that's a wrap. I'm done with the desk job until Monday.
On the other hand, I am singing two services tomorrow night and one on Sunday. So there's that.
-

SEALED, NOT JUST COVERED :o
I am sure there are plenty of patients who need help with this.

Watching a lousy copy of Beat the Devil from the library. I love this mess of a movie. I can just imagine how mystified audiences were back then.

That's probably all for the best. Just forget it and rediscover it from scratch.

As Bill Sampson might have said to Miss Harrington on a night like this:
"It's Christmas Eve Eve, Eve! Have a Martini!"
-
I met my cousin Debra at the local cemetery this afternoon so she could show me where my Aunt Doris' grave is. There isn't a plaque on it yet, but there is a small marker. I placed a pot of poinsettias on it.
It's to Debra's I go tomorrow afternoon for the Christmas Eve Streak Grilling. Additionally, she is going to my Uncle Rock's house (across the street from me) on Christmas Day and several other relatives are expected to drop in. There will be amuse bouches and chili. I shall take some torilla chips and dip.

Alas! Alack! Alarum! I am alone here typing to myself and one guest.
Who IS this "one guest" who always seems to be here?

~~~Quick Recovery Vibes for Vixmom's Aunt!!~~~
-
So, tonight I ushered for a local production of A Christmas Carol at Harlequin Productions.
-
Their Producing Artistic Director Aaron Lamb (and actor in the show) did the adaptation, which lasted about 90 minutes and had no intermission.
-
A couple of friends of mine were in it, but they didn't come out after the show before I left.
-
I'm ushering again on Sunday, so maybe I'll be able to see them then.
-
My aunt (94) fell and broke her hip yesterday.
Thank you John
And where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
In tarnation?
-
I hear it's lovely there this time of year.
-
I will say that this will be our lowest posting year in twelve YEARS. That said, site traffic is actually up.
-
A few days ago, my sister and I went to a local (plant) nursery to look for something that we both could get for our mom.
-
We saw a couple of things that she might like, but we ended up not making a decision, so we didn't get anything.
-
So, since I couldn't buy the gift card for my mom, one of the things that we thought of getting was a hummingbird windchime.
-
My sister went today and got it, so that that could be my gift for our mom.
