Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a serenade to me, and now it is time for you to post until the serenading cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: COMPENDIOUS!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
The
afternoon dusk of a fawn.
-
~~~CONTINUED BACK VIBES~~~ for DR Ron Pulliam and DR Jeanne!!!!
-
~~~PROJECT VIBES OF ULTIMATE STRENGTH~~~ for DR elmore3003!!!!!!!
-
Here's a link to the Vaughan Williams that bk mentioned:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFcl6Td5dgk
-
I am not familiar with the orchestral version, but have heard all the vocal versions, and performed it once.
-
I'm pretty sure I've told this story before, but one of the soprano soloists got nervous just before her big solo, and instead of declaiming Shakespeare's lovely "Peace, Ho!," she instead sang "Heave, Ho!."
-
Vaughan Williams really did capture the text in this music. Masterful.
-
I'll have to think about the TOD.
-
One piece that helps settle me (though not orchestral, but chamber), is Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in Mirror):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n37bNmVggtU
-
Good morning, all!
-
This recording project is causing a lot of tsuris, and I will be spending more time on it today than I desire. The Big Telephonic Conversation did not happen yesterday; we played phone tag, so that will occur today. I look forward to it.
-
DR slingshot, I loved the photo of the computer and dozing kitty. That's Annabelle some days.
-
DR George, I would call the performance yesterday "The Director's Nightmare." How did your director cope?
-
Good morning to everyone. I hope everyone has a great day.
-
Kitty cleanup is over, and I've accomplished a little business. I've also been thinking about the TOD, and I can only think of two orchestral pieces:
Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
Pachelbel's Canon
-
Here's the Vaughan Williams Fantasia conducted ny my friend John Wilson:

Vibes on the telephone for DR ELMORE.
-
Chiro vibes for DR RON PULLIAM.
-
I hope DR singdaw isn't part of the Ice Follies of 2022 today.
-
I think I would like to see a play where somebody gets hit on the head and we hear a doorbell.
-
DR singdaw you don't have to think about this, but I used Spiegel um Spiegal to underscore the penultimate scene in THE BAD SEED.
The mother is giving her bad seed daughter an overdose of sleeping pills, reading her a page of The Five Little Peppers, puts her to bed, and then shoots herself......it was most effective.
And not a doorbell to be heard!
-
I like the movie SERENADE with Mario Lanza, Joan Fontaine, Vincent Price, and Vince Edwards......
The book by James Cain is even more interesting since the leading character has an affair with a bullfighter while he is Mexico.
-
Although it's not particularly restful in spots.....I like to listen to Carmina Burana.
But for me nothing beats Bolero.
-
Good morning, all.
-
One piece that helps settle me (though not orchestral, but chamber), is Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in Mirror):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n37bNmVggtU
So what you are telling us is that S.P. Eagle, aka Sam Spiegel, was really "Sam Mirror"?
-
My go-to serenade is Elgar's "Enigma Variations" conducted by Sir John Barbirolli.
-
Hello! Happy Monday!
How can it already be the 7th of March?
-
I had a wonderful night of sleep.
I am about to dress and embark on a trip to Batesburg-Leesville SC to see my chiropractor.
Batesburg is a town. Leesville is a town. They are so close together that it was confusing knowing in which town you were in, street to street.
So, they incorporated.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I should have had a much more restful night than I did, but I had too many things going on in the brains department and it just didn't happen.
Nevertheless, I have my first ME day following a show, which is always precious ... even while some of it will be spent later re-setting up my Music Room and getting started on the next show.
-
Vibes on the telephone for DR ELMORE.
DITTO!
-
I had the phone call, which lasted one hour and forty-five minutes. My friend tends to ramble, but he's never dull.
-
Back home from my morning excursion. I was seen immediately by the chiropractor. He made a minor right hip adjustment and then stimulated nerve junctions along my spine. It sounds hinky, when I think about it, but I feel so much better afterward. If the end result is a "good" feeling, then it must be worthwhile.
I stopped at Walmart and indulged my desire for ice cream treats, went to the post office and then came home to put the ice cream in my freezer.
It was lunchtime by then, so I got into my car and drove up the street to the Triangle where I had chicken tenders, rice and gravy and squash casserole. I washed it all down with unsweetened tea. The tenders "were" tender and delicious, too.
Now I am ensconced at home. Don't know what I can get up to as I still need to take care about how I move around, but I will accomplish SOMETHING....I just know it in my heart of hearts, my bone of bones and my soul of souls. It may simply be a nap.
-
In the clueless department...
-
My brother Dane is 63 years old today......I have two additional younger brothers
-
Good afternoon!
-
One piece that helps settle me (though not orchestral, but chamber), is Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in Mirror):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n37bNmVggtU
That was serene and lovely.
-
Additional TOD thoughts:
Can't come up with anything that's isn't kind of a cliché. But they are warhorses for a reason.
Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring" (either the chamber version or the orchestral suite) and Third Symphony.
Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings."
Howard Hanson's "Mosaics" and also the Second Symphony.
-
I'm sure that was quite effective and kind of disturbing, DR Jrand71.
-
I had a nice phone chat with my friend Roberta Staats at the Cole Porter Trust. I don't think I've seen her since THE NEW YORKERS in 2017. When I worked on THE GAY DIVORCE in 1999, she had to put up with me cluttering up the office every day for months.
-
DR John, nice photo from yesterday.
-
DR Ron I would think church pews are not good for your back.
-
Ron, congrats on now having a painter and a porch person.
-

Wow, was the ending to the movie changed?
-
I'm up, I'm up - a bit over eight hours of sleep.
-
There's a little package at the mail place, but I may just wait until tomorrow and retrieve it on the way to the theater. Gas is too expensive for any driving that isn't absolutely necessary.
-
However, the good news about the new motor car is that I've had it for exactly three weeks and still have a little under half a tank of gas left.

That's a beautiful picture, Singdaw!
-
Our Costco and BJ's gas pricing is at $3.93, at least of a few hours ago, and the amazing thing is that that's what it was when I was driving home yesterday evening. It had been changing AT LEAST twice per day over the few days prior. And that's just ... you know, that stuff that comes out of a bull?
I've still got a third of a tank, and I'm refusing to refill until I have to, at least a few more days from now. My heavy commuting begins again around the 18th and the week following.

Nice memory, I’m sure.

Easier to plan ahead now that you don't have to drive simply to keep the battery charged.

That's great.

Ours seems to be going twice a day, too.

Yes. Sanitized for Hays Code audiences.
-
DR John, nice photo from yesterday.
Thank you. It was a last hurrah before the pandemic.
-
I’m liking Singdaw’s selections today.
-
Let’s move on …
-
I left my car in Ashland and at times miss it. The last two years I am grateful we weren't paying for two cars.
-
Three!
-
There’s a recipe for s’mores hammentaschen online and, well, it does not appeal at all.
-
But would I say no if someone else made them? Probably not.
-
Along with all the other stories I have been reading, this little Ukrainian girl in a shelter moved me to tears. (https://www.yahoo.com/news/ukrainian-girl-sings-let-kyiv-151309330.html)

No, just NO!
-
I've seen someone selling lavender-lemon hamantaschen online as a fundraiser for Ukrainians.
-
One of the seasonal delicacies that I love. And some places sell them year round.
-
Thanks for getting us off page two, DR John G. It was interminable.
-
Today's topic title reminds me of the point in A Little Night Music when Charlotte says, sardonically, "Happy Birthday to me!"
-
My grass was cut today. It needed cutting and looks really good. The surrounding country is bright pink as all the peach trees are in bloom.
-
Speaking of something pink...
-
Thanks for getting us off page two, DR John G. It was interminable.
It could have been just you perceiving it as such!
-

Hamantaschen for Ukraine is a show of bakery solidarity for the people of Ukraine. Lots of hamantaschen being baked this year with profits going to help the people of Ukraine. Bagel shops have also joined in.
There is Cook for Ukraine. Also Bake for Ukraine. Many bakeries throughout the US and Europe are participating.

Speaking of something pink...
Sadly brings to mind something Charles once said about Camilla and feminine hygiene products.

You went there!

I guess I missed what he said.

I am already dreading losing my extra hour of sleep on Saturday night.
-
But there is nothing to be done about it.
-
:)
At least I don't eat as much when I am reading making fewer calories to burn ;)
-
I am already dreading losing my extra hour of sleep on Saturday night.
The way I have not been sleeping lately I doubt I will notice the difference.
-
'night
-
Good night, friends.
-
Thanks for getting us off page two, DR John G. It was interminable.
Yet you couldn’t get us off extra-interminable page 3.
-
Riverdale is now doing Everything’s Alright from JCS.
-
Today was weird.
-
A coworker has to undergo a series of tests that don’t look promising. The word he used was they found lesions.
-
Dancing wasn’t the best because I was a little draggy.
-
Let’s move on.
-
Four!
-
Fever is gone, which is good.
-
Now, my internet connection is wonky.
-
In the realm of it can’t get any more stupid, people are confusing poutine and Putin.
-
In the realm of it can’t get any more stupid, people are confusing poutine and Putin.
And down here in the south, we confuse all of that with pootin'.
-
Come to think of it, it's an end result of both.
-
Serenade for Poutine time?
-
What’s a good rhyme for poutine?
-
You queen?
-
Too mean?
-
Blue green
-
Hairdo sheen
-
Enough of that.
-
Daniel Radcliffe is apparently doing Merrily We Roll Along.
-
I hope he’s playing Charley.
-
Just found a story. He is Charley. Rest of cast to be announced.
-
Only halfway through the page.
-
Where is everyone tonight?
-
Out having poutine?
-
With or without a side of Putin?
-
Isn’t he past his sell-by date?
-
This season of Riverdale is lacking, despite some plusses. Too many episodes dealing with only one character at a time.
-
Right now, it’s the Jughead episode. Meh.
-
Time for bed.
-
Good night, all.

Guess I'm in Facebook purgatory for twenty-two more hours, although I've contested the BS. I know exactly who reported me - an "actress" named Carolyn Quinn, who posted something rude about Tony Walton, so I took her on. She reported for bullying - I merely said she was behaving like an eight year old, and that was due to her responses. I knew I should have blocked her immediately - when you do that they can't report anything because they can no longer see the posts. When I'm out of purgatory I think I'll contact a few of our mutual friends and have some fun - after blocking her, of course.
-
Had the spicy cashew chicken from Cheesecake Factory for food. Very good.
-
Haven't done too much of anything - just really dealing with LA Now and Then problems mostly due to money. When I was asked if we could do the show, I was told there were a certain number of grants that could be gotten to do it and therefore we could do it as it needed to be done - band, cast, everything. One of the grants didn't come through but the others did. But all I hear about is money this and money that and I can't work under those conditions, with the daily dreck about it all and I kind of blew up today and hopefully things will be better now. The show is the show and I'm not going to do it half-assed. One of the biggest problems is that they have to purchase four more head mics and the price of those has gone up by over a grand since they bought them last. And they're trying to put that purchase solely on the budget of this show, which isn't right because they're going to use them for Applause when we do that and other shows - should either simply be a theater purchase for goods needed or amortized over a few shows. That would free up a lot of dough.

PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
DR George, I would call the performance yesterday "The Director's Nightmare." How did your director cope?
She was not there. I think she had family visiting, or at least something else scheduled, so she didn't have to cope.
-
I guess I missed what he said.
You are lucky.
-
Daniel Radcliffe is apparently doing Merrily We Roll Along.
On purpose?
-
Tonight I finally broke down and watched JUDY.
-
It was okay, I guess. My problem with the film is that Renee Zellweger’s Judy just wasn’t likable.
-
In real life regardless of whether Judy was singing “Over The Rainbow,” or was fall-down drunk on the Jack Parr Show telling rambling old stories about Louie B Mayer grabbing her boobs; no matter what, you still loved Judy.
-
Not so, with Ms. Zellweger.
-
I made it thru the film, without falling asleep, so I guess that was something.
-
I have been up since 5:00 a.m.. Around four o’clock, the kids started playing Battleship across my chest and my head.
-
For an hour, I tried getting them to calm down.
-
I finally locked them in the bedroom and I went and played on the computer
-
I finally let them out about 8;00 a.m.
-
I was still pissed, but they didn’t seem to care.
-
Ahhhhhh, children!
-
Good night.

Last night, I got gas at Fred Meyer here in Tumwater, and these were the prices:
-
But since I have the Fred Meyer rewards card (and don't use it enough), I had some points saved up and this was the price (for the 87 octane) that I actually paid
-
Lucky you with those gas prices. Our prices GIVE me gas.
-
It was 45¢ per gallon off! ;D
