Well, you've read the notes, the notes were frank, steve, george, zeke, and others, and now it is time for you to post until the frank cows come home. To it, I say.
-
And the word of the day is: PERFIDY!
-
Didn't the Forever Plaid guys sing that song, Perfidy...or something like that? ;)
-
In my DVD player: a couple of movies from Netflix. One is one of the Cirque du Soleil DVDs (I had all of them in my queue, so I don't remember which one) and some other foreign movie that I just got yesterday. I have a third movie, "Latter Days" somewhere in my house, but I can't find it! :o I hope I don't have to pay for it. It has to be somewhere here. I know I didn't return it or lend it to anyone. So, I just have to look for it.
In my VCR: a tape to tape the second season premiere of "The 4400" for my sister. I bought a used copy of the first season DVD (all of six hours) but haven't watched it yet. My sister started watching the show but missed one episode (she was very happy to borrow my DVD). When there are only six episodes, you can miss a lot in one episode.
In my CD player at work: a bunch of radio interviews of members of The Manhattan Transfer that I was sent. I'm putting together booklets for them, so I have to listen to the entire set of CDs (I forget how many there are, but it's a lot)! But I love The Manhattan Transfer, so I don't mind too much. ;D

And on that note (B-flat), I'm going to sleep. Goodnight! 8)

Media check...
CD: Sweeney Todd... in Jazz
DVDs: The Breakfast Club, Das Boot (uncut German miniseries version), Studs Terkel's Working
VCR: empty

Good morning, all! The heat is ridiculous, and I am quite disgruntled over it. I prefer rain, snow, sleet, hail, and any temperature below 70 degrees F. I've never understood the mania to run about a beach risking skin cancer and skin the texture of a work shoe, so I'm disgruntled.
TOD:
CD: right now it's Victor Herbert, yesterday it was Offenbach, but I have no idea what's waiting at the recording office, which is where I will be most of the day.
DVD: AMELIE, a couple of operas LA GIOCONDA, CARMEN
-
Morning all!
Thank you DR Matt. I knew it was some such name.
Does anyone remember the story about the bucking horse? I can’t remember the name of the horse or the book but I remember that when he died (made me cry) he was undefeated in the ring and the riders put a monument up to him.
“If theres a horse in Heaven, Lord, please rest his soul.” was part of the inscription, I think.
I have to drive into work today so I’m not in quite the rush but I really do need to get on the road. There is a lot of rain out there, courtesy of Arlene, and I want to have plenty of time for the ride in. I confess that now that I have Bonnie, I’m not as nervous about it as I used to be.
I still can’t believe I have such a nice vehicle. I walk up to her in the parking lots and think, “Is this really MINE?”
Have a good and safe day. :)

I will be having guest this weekend and I want to show off my 6.1 system and only have one movie mixed to that spec. The new edtion of the animee Ghost In The Shell. Does anyone know any other film on dvd that is mixed in 6.1?
-
TOD:
CD stuff, no plans to watch a movie in the DVD or VCR, although if the heat breaks I will ride the exercise bike and watch more Sopranos episodes. I haven't ridden for a few days because there is no air conditioning in the living room and I don't want to risk heat stroke.
I got the new John Fricke compilation called That Old Feeling: Classic Ballads from the Judy Garland Show. As with all Fricke work, it's well done and looks nice. I will listen to that today. I also brought to work the following (I don't know if I will listen to them all but just in case):
OCRs She Loves Me, 1776 (the original, not the Roundabout recording), Romance Romance (I really like this score), No, No, Nanette and Nine (the complete 2 CD recording w/Raul Julia).
That's it for CD/DVD/VCR. No theatre or movie or television plans this weekend.

Anthony is doing fine in Virginia. He's deep into rehearsal. They begin previews on Wednesday, June 15th and open Friday, June 17th. Having done Hysterium twice before he's familiar with the show and is having an easier time of being off book, and all that other stuff. They are being fairly tight about remembering exact lines when it comes to a cue and while they can ham it up a bit (it is Forum, after all), extreme late run Zero Mostel or Danny Kaye antics are not encouraged. I will be seeing the show over the 4th of July weekend (Friday, July 1st through Monday, July 4th) and I'll report.
And now, an announcement. As Mr. Oz mentioned late in the notes yesterday, today, June 10th is Miss Garland's birthday, but it is also Mr. Anthony Morelli's birthday. So all together, Happy Birthday Anthony! It's also another cast member's birthday today so tomorrow the cast will be celebrating. I sent two packages for Ant, one a box of goodies to help him get through this "difficult" time (he doesn't like to acknowledge the aging process that comes with birthdays). The second package (I told him not to open it until today) contains two CDs. One is a compilation of Mae West on the radio (Ant is a big Mae West fan) and the other is a compilation of Jeanette McDonald (he's also a big fan of her, in fact most of the people he likes are dead and gone).
I am doing well with Anthony gone. Although it is strange to come back to an empty apartment, I'm happy he's working and enjoying himself. It's only six weeks and I'll be seeing him in another three weeks anyway.
-
Whew, I thought I might have lost that last post. It finally came up as "Page cannot be displayed. As it was sitting there (like so much fish) I copied it just in case it was lost. But luck is with me today. It went through. Hooray.
Jose, are you coming up to NYC this weekend? I seem to remember you mentioning that possibility. If so, we (Larry, Tom/Rodzinski, etc) should try to get together.

DRBen, I'm certainly around; I'm at the recording office today, tomorrow and Sunday, and I've got my goddaughter's dance recital on Sunday afternoon. I'm good for an early evening visit. Let me know.
-
Howsabout Saturday after your stint on 14th Street? Even if Jose doesn't come to town we can still have a nice visit.
-
Good morning - I'm so glad it's Friday and I have a 3-day weekend ahead of me! SW Ohio has been hot and muggy all week, too, and it's very tiring.
Media: CD (car) - audiobook Madam Secretary by Madeline Albright - almost done.
DVD - ?
VCR - The first two episodes of Beauty and the Geek (DS Rob: "The story of my life, Mom!") Rob came home yesterday for the summer and roped me into watching my first, ever, reality program.
-
Happiest of birthdays to Anthony!

The rainy season has come on this very day.
I hate it.

Happy birthday to DR Ben's DP Anthony!

iPod: all rock music, today--Gorillaz, The White Stripes, Coldplay. But I'm also hankerin' to listen to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels again.
DVD Player: SCTV, the 3rd Season
VCR: The Tony's are still in there from Sunday. I want to browse through it before I archive the tape.
-
Happy Birthday, Anthony! I am wearing my Hysterium T-shirt to help you celebrate your natal day!
I live to grovel. Master Hero, come away from ... this ... person.
And the likeness? Frightening!
-
Thank you, DRJOSE. I feel much better today.
Of course there was the lady who fell up the steps last night and gashed her knee. I suggested we offer her tickets for the three remaining shows since she has another leg and two arms to go. We could have her in a body cast by September!
-
Friday and Frank of course always reminds me of DRAGNET!
Dum de DUM DUM. Just the facts, ma'am.
-
DR MS - scroll down at this link to find a somewhat outdated list of movies with ETS or 6.1 sound. Looks like PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN and THE AVIATOR and GLADIATOR were released with 6.1

DR DtM - I am thinking I am going to have to purchase the DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS CD after seeing Mr Norbutt Leo Butz last week. He was very good in his Tony-winning performance, although Mr Lithgow is certainly a Minus for me. Oh well.
-
DVD: Pirates of the Caribbean, since we mentioned Action Movies this week, I have been watching a few.
VCR: JULIE with Miss Doris Day, again.
CD: Doris Day, the 1960's Singles, many different classical CD's as I am making the "soundtrack" for the play I am directing. I have settled on a few DARK SHADOWS tv tracks, one Patsy Cline, the pas de deux from SWAN LAKE, Pachobel's KANON, Jump by the Pointer Sisters, Minstrel of the Night by Gordon Lightfoot, O Fortuna, AND......Un Bel Di. Something for everyone - and his dog.
-
DR TCB - you now have something on its way to you from Indiana. It should be there Tuesday.
Hope you find it interesting.
In a moment the results of that trial.
-
DR Michael Shayne, all of the STAR WARS films are in 6.1 (EX or ES depending on whether you're listening to Dolby Digital or DTS sound). Pixar/Disney's TOY STORY 2 and the last three Pixar movies: MONSTERS, INC, FINDING NEMO, THE INCREDIBLES.
And I'll tell you a little secret: many of the most recent regular 5.1 Dolby DIgital DVDs will translate just fine into 6.1 if you activate 6.1 EX decoding. You have to do this manually (on my Pioneer receiver, it requires only the push of one button on the front panel), but it will work. On older films with DD soundtracks, it doesn't work, and the surround track collapses into the center back only, but for anything made since 2000, it should work just fine.
-
Happy Birthday to DR Ben's ever lovin' Anthony!!

Friday Media Check:

My Tony Award Playbill came in the mail today, so I'll enjoy flipping through that at some point this weekend, too.
-
My friend Hal came to see the show last night. Since hooking up with his new partner three years ago, he's pretty much given up theater though we had previously done shows together (SCROOGE, BENT). After seeing the show, he called this morning and said he had the itch to do something again, and I reminded him about the upcoming OLIVER! auditions. He was immediately interested in Bill Sikes, so looks like LA CAGE will succeed in getting a talented actor to come back to the theater, and I couldn't be happier.
-
Good Morning!
YIKES! Almost 11:00 already!! John Michael's school musical is in 45 minutes!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR/DP ANTHONY!!!!

Oh well.
Yep, Mr. Butz's "Great Big Stuff" has been repeating in my head all week since the awards. And I think you might change you mind about Lithgow when you give the CD a listen to. He is so over the top on a few of his numbers but so perfectly so.
And I love those Hugh Wheeler orchestrations.
Alright, I've now switched from Gorillaz to Scoundrels on my mePod.
Also, Leo Butz sounds a LOT like a young Robert Morse on this recording. There are times I expect him to start singing "Rosemary!"
-
After hemming and hawing, I will be staying down here this weekend. -And the heat...UGH! It's also Pride weekend down here too, so I have lots of friends coming into town. -And it also looks like I'll be playing the show on Sunday as well now, so...
-
OK.... GOTTA RUN!!!
Laters...

I'm sure you meant Harold Wheeler. Dear Hugh Wheeler has been gone for quite a few years.
-
Yes, I'm going to take a break from the computer now and go rehearse Act I lines. I'll be back in the afternoon.

And the word of the day is: PERFIDY!
Mother Fidy had a very large family. One day she made cookies, about two dozen or so, and she handed them out, one per Fidy.

Then there is the new Bruce Willis movie:

-
DVD player: I'm part way thru SIDEWAYS.
VCR: Last night's home renovation show on HGTV, THE BLOCK.
I'm curious, did anybody see last night's THE CUT (the new Tommy Hilfiger show). It had a very similar format to APPRENTICE. I like Mr. Hilfiger's stuff (especially the jewelry). And I actually quite liked this show. I wonder how it did in the Survivor CBS timeslot.
-
It is extremely humid here too. I think it is like 40C with the humidex.
DR Jose, is it normal for them to keep changing your schedule so often? This seems crazy to me.
-
Dan (the Man)- Was that the new Gorillaz you were listening to? "Demon Days"? That is a pretty entertaining CD.
-
To you...
My heart cries out Perfidia!
Cause I find you the Goddess of Love
In Somebody else's arms
-
You guys may be having a heat wave, but our sun has gone away :'( , replaced by gray skies and maybe some rain.
-
Maybe he meant Hugh Herbert, the great character actor.
-
Last night the Vixter had her dress rehearsal for her dance recital, this is her 8th year dancng at this studio.
The klittle ones, 3 & 4 year olds are so adorable and the some of the older ones, in high school are very talented... and then there are the poor overweight, untalented ones that are crammed into a leotard three sizes too small and are constantly 1/2 a step behind the rest of the class...its painful to watch, but I give them a lot of credit for sticking to it and performing with a smile!
-
Dan (the Man)- Was that the new Gorillaz you were listening to? "Demon Days"? That is a pretty entertaining CD.
Yep, that's the one. I'll give it another go this weekend since I've switch to show tune mode now.
It sounds like something that should be listened to on head phones. They do a lot of cool subtle stuff on this one.
-
We had a wild thundershower to start the day. The sun ain't out yet.
-
We have heat, humidity, fog, grey skies and drizzle... oh what a lovely commute on the Long Island Distressway this morning
-
A bit of trivia:
David, the high tenor in the group "Il Divo", is David Miller, who was one of the Rodolfos in Baz Luhrmann's "La Boheme".
-
Don't have anything in the CD player at work... I shall have to remedy that
I was listening to NPR on the car radio during the aforementioned commute of bliss
-

It is ever thus, DR VIXMOM. I too give them credit and applause.
-
I'm perfidy miserable today with a crick in my neck (left side) that I've had off and on all week.
Perhaps a visit to a chiropractor???????
-
Every evening I have been running around doing errands and sorting laundry and reading The October Horse in my free moments, so no DVD or VCR selections either
-
The media report is a bit complex this time, since it's tied in with another Grandlad-sitting. Since we didn't have the Tarzan CD in the car (enough being enough), and since we'd loaned the lads our copy of Frog and Toad, there was no familiar CD in the car when we picked up William from school. Crisis time: what would he listen to.
He decided he "hates" Charlie Brown, so You're a Good Man... lasted only a track or two. Seussical had the Cat in the Hat on the cover, but is not about the Cat in the Hat, so that lasted only a couple of tracks before William declared it "boring" as well. Lion King on Broadway? The choral stuff that isn't from the film bombed. I finally handed him all the discs we had in the car. "What's this?" he asked. It was The Frogs. "That's not really for kids," I told him. He decided he had to hear it. Out of stubbornness, he stuck with it for four or five tracks.
Mind, in all of our dashing around (made more complicated by trying to find a WeBeLos bandanna for der B's daughter, the Cub Den Mom), William got no rest time, which five-year-olds do need. He had a splendid lunch at a buffet restaurant, however.
But by the time we picked up his older brother, Alex, he was getting antsy and rebelious. Unfortunately, so was older brother Alex. So, while Alex decided he did like You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,, when we got to a regional park that der B needed to check out for summertime camp activities (for which he'll have transportation duties) the lads quickly found their way to the shore of the lake. Off came their shoes, so they could wade in the water. Off came their shirts, because it was so hot. You guessed it, within a minute they were swimming, defying my telling them not to even think of it. It took both stern Grandpa and a very angry yours truly to get them ashore again.
We, of course, had no towels in the car.
We also played no music on the way back home. If the grandlads are going to disobey, I see no reason to give them privileges. And (the good news) they do realize that the music is a privilege.

MacGyver's boss Dana Elcar has shuffled off this mortal coil.
-

I suspect many of us "here" were, in different ways during our childhoods, as challenged at some things as those little ones are.

A bit of trivia:
David, the high tenor in the group "Il Divo", is David Miller, who was one of the Rodolfos in Baz Luhrmann's "La Boheme".
Sorry, but in this era of "Just Say No to Drugs," is it a good idea for someone to run around as a high tenor? It just doesn't match the tenor of the times.
-
It is ever thus, DR VIXMOM. I too give them credit and applause.
My Vixter is very slim and very energetic, but I am afraid not very talented inthe dance depaertment... oh she does all the steps and in the right order and at the same pace as the rest of the class.. but that special "something" that makes you say "look at her' just isn't there.....
but she enjoys it so let her do it....
on the other hand when she sings... oh then she shines....
-
I suspect many of us "here" were, in different ways during our childhoods, as challenged at some things as those little ones are.
And it lasted way BEYOND childhood for some of us. :P
-

Not any more shocking, DR SWW, than a High Mass. 8)

Who are those adorable children?
-
I just did a Google Image Search for "Dance Recital" and there they were!
I have a feeling it's Beth, Jake, and Abby.

I suspect many of us "here" were, in different ways during our childhoods, as challenged at some things as those little ones are.
I agree, which is why I say I give them credit for sticking to it and giving it their all....
-
I'm perfidy miserable today with a crick in my neck (left side) that I've had off and on all week.
We have a crick running along the back of our lot.
-
I just lost my PERIFIDY post.
Just as well--it really wasn't that entertaining and isn't worth the effort to recreat it.
But now what am I gonna do with the Patricia Routledge pic I have in my Photobucket.com folder?
-
MEDIA CHECK, part two:
When we finally got back to the lad's home, their father was already there. Der B had them explain what had happened at the park.
A little later, der B went upstairs, with a DVD in hand. No, they didn't get to pick out what they wanted (in spite of William declaring he "hated" what Grampa had before he'd even seen it). So they all watched Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat together. Alex loved it, and later was singing the phrase "Go, go, Joseph" all around the house. William found a way to sit in front of everyone else, he was so engrossed with the show.
Small problem, though. Der B practically promised the lads that we had a copy of the CD, which we'll have in the car for our next excursion. Only, we don't have the CD yet.
Time to go shopping.
-
Yumm - I participated today for the first time in Derrick's Lunch Delivery. A young man who works in another library department takes orders on Thursday, picks up home-cooked lunches from his friend Mary, and delivers them at noon on Friday. Today's menu was fried perch, macaroni salad, collard greens, bread (which I didn't eat), and peach cobbler - all for $7! Sure beats going out in the heat, which I can't do on Fridays anyway, because I only have a half-hour lunch.
-
DR SWW - I recommend the London Cast Recording with Jason Donovan.
-
Thanks, DRGINNY - now I am hungry!

And now, an announcement. As Mr. Oz mentioned late in the notes yesterday, today, June 10th is Miss Garland's birthday, but it is also Mr. Anthony Morelli's birthday. So all together, Happy Birthday Anthony!
Happy Birthday to DR Ben's Anthony!!
-
Good Afternoon!
I'm back from the Ms. French's Class 11:45a.m. presentation of GO FISH. *There were no composer nor lyricist credits listed in the program, so... Hmmm....
It was a fun show! Short and sweet. Four scenes. Four songs. And each child had their moment to shine in one way or another. And for a bunch of kindergarteners, they did a pretty good job - songs and lines memorized too! -With their music teacher off to the side mouthing the words and prompting when necessary - oh, and doing the choreography too!
From what I could gather - and understand - the diction of kindergarteners is still the diction of five year-olds - the story was about how the Sharks wanted to get along with the other fish and creatures in the ocean. My nephew, John Michael, was Tiger Shark #2.
The opening scene and song was called, "Oceans of Fun!". It did it's job nicely introducing us to all the various types of fish, and to their underwater world.
The second scene featured the Sharks, and the song, "We're Sharks". It was a rap song. And my nephew had the opening couple of lines as his solo.
Then came the Misfit Fish and Tiger Sharks scene which featured their song, "Commotion in the Ocean". It was sort of a vaudeville number with joke breaks in it:
-What's broken and shaking and at the bottom of the sea?
-A nervous wreck!
-Where do fishes keep their money?
-In the river bank!
Yuck-yuck-yuck!
It was also during this scene that the Misfit Fish, like the Sharks, also wanted to fit in with the rest of the fish in the ocean
The Zebra Fish wanted stripes instead of the polka-dots she had.
The Octopus had only seven legs, and he wanted eight.
The Star Fish wanted a Leading Role. *It took me a while to figure out exactly what the Star Fish wanted/was saying, then I noticed the she had a top hat and cane on one of her "legs'.
The Blow Fish just wanted some air.
And the Tuna Fish - who kept singing, "mi-mi-mi-miiiii" just wanted some talent and the ability to "stay on pitch and a good sense of rhythm". -Get it, Tune-A Fish? Huh?
;)
So, that led us to the Final Scene where they all went to meet the Great White Shark to see if he could grant their wishes and give them what they want. In his great wisdom, the Great White Shark pointed out that if everyone was the same, then there would be no variety in the ocean, and the ocean would be boring. They all agreed and happily swam back home to the reprise of "Oceans of Fun!".
...And they all lived happily ever after.
-
bare legs too much for you Jack? :D
I was still worried about the bread.
-
DRJOSE thanks for the theatrical review.
-
It turns out John Michael's teacher had spent some time down at Disneyworld after she graduated college, so we traded some names and stories. She explained in her intro that she was training each of her students to be a Triple Threat just like she had to do down at Disneyworld. Well, it does look like some of the will be Triple Threats..
-Can't Act. Can't Sing. Can't Dance.
Yuck-yuck-yuck!
It really was a nice show. I was just surprised that I could fit into those grade-school sized chairs. The art classes also came up with a nice backdrop for them, and their costumes - basically masks - were very well done too. Heck, I thought I was watching a second grade production instead of a kindergarten one!
;D
-
A bit of trivia:
David, the high tenor in the group "Il Divo", is David Miller, who was one of the Rodolfos in Baz Luhrmann's "La Boheme".
A bit of trivia:
DR Iris and I pointed that out two weeks ago.
:P
;)
-
PERFIDY, baby, PERFIDY!
That's what I'M talkin' about.
A very happy haineshisway.com birthday to dear reader Ben's dear partner Anthony.
I was awakened by a phone call from the East Coast, as I have been every day this week. Since that time, I have not been off the phone or off the laptop.
-
DRJOSE thanks for the theatrical review.
You're very welcome, DR Jrand. I try my best to be fair and not too critical when it comes to these productions.
;)
-
I'm waiting for Miss Tammy Minoff to call me so we can choose which scenes actors will be reading tomorrow.
-
Well, I've had a delightful morning and early afternoon here in my "office" and now have to spend the rest of my workday waiting on the public. Back later this evening!
-
DR Jose, is it normal for them to keep changing your schedule so often? This seems crazy to me.
Yes and No.
Actually, it hasn't been that crazy.
I've basically known my schedule for this run since I've been getting it from the conductor and assistant conductor. And I tend to keep on top of things on my own as it is... Some people call it "nosy", I prefer "prepared". In any case...
I'm supposed to get my schedule from the contractor since that's what contractors are supposed to do. Well... In any case...
I'm also technically "on-call" even though there is a schedule for the keyboard "alternates". So, as long as my cell phone is on...
*I also get a little bump in pay each time I am called in to play, so that's nice too.
-
OH!
Addendum:
Weird Romance OCR
Lady in the Dark - Studio Recording with Rise Stevens
Rockapella - 2
WOW! I actually listened to music other than Mamma Mia! this week!
-
And, yes, DR MBarnum... I know, I know... The next thing I put into my DVD player will be the Bollywood movie you sent me. *And I assure you, nothing else has been put into my DVD player in a long time. It's been the first in the queue for months.
-
...And as for New York this weekend... I really would have liked to make it up, but after the initial idea popped into my head, my motivation to do so just sort of died down. ???
And then I got the call about Sunday... etc., etc., etc... So I'm guessing my sixth sense was kicking in somehow.
Once I get my Mamma Mia! schedule for the rest of the run next week, then we'll see... But then it will be July... And I'll be up there anyway, so..
:)

Then there's the opposite problem: Here in Olympia, there's a dance studio where a lot the girls (even the young ones) are dressed in tight, revealing outfits, "dancing" (and I use the term loosely) like they were a Janet Jackson/Britney Spears video. :o

I just lost my PERIFIDY post.
Just as well--it really wasn't that entertaining and isn't worth the effort to recreat it.
But now what am I gonna do with the Patricia Routledge pic I have in my Photobucket.com folder?
I love Patricia Routledge! Post it anyway! ;D
-
Can you spell Q-U-A-N-D-A-R-Y?
I have an embarrassment of DVD riches that I am making my way through....
Season 1 of "Dynasty," "Lois and Clark" and "Moonlighting."
Season 5 of "Frasier"
The Ray Harryhausen sets...two count 'em two...with five DVDs in each set.
And on the CD front, another embarrassment of riches...
Adam Guettel's mesmerizing "Light in the Piazza," the scintillaing dualdisc of "Il Divo", Bronislau Kaper's "Quentin Durward", John Barry's "King Kong", and the Varese CD Club issues of "Desiree" and "The Hallelujah Trail."

I must say I pretty much disliked Quentin Durward. I do love Barry's King Kong. And I'll have the Varese titles soon.
-
Hmm....
So maybe I'll head down to Richmond tonight....
Hmmm....
-
Thanks for the reviews Jose... I always loved those school programs.
Did you videotape it for posterity?
-
Personally, I've always found school programs the best argument for birth control. :D
Glad you enjoyed, Jose!

WARNING: Bernadette Peters News! (If you're not a fan, skip to the next post! ;))
"Sondheim, Etc., Etc.—Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall" to Be Released in August (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/93452.html)!!
"The 12-track disc features all the tunes from the Tony Award winner's December 9, 1996, solo Carnegie Hall debut concert that weren't featured on the initial, Grammy-nominated live recording,"Sondheim Etc.: Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall (The Rest of It)." The new CD also features Peters' in-between song patter.
It also lists the tracks:
- Overture (written by Marvin Laird)
- "We're in the Money"/"Pennies from Heaven"
- "If You Were the Only Boy"
- "Unexpected Song"
- "Faithless Love"
- "Other Lady"
- "I Never Thought I'd Break"
- "(They Ask Me Why) I Believe in You"
- "Later"
- "With So Little to Be Sure Of"
- "Children Will Listen"
- "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"
What I still want to know is why, when you buy the original disc now, the song "Making Love Alone" is no longer on it! It's been removed! What's going on?

In my endless quest for permanent employment, I am currently trying to rejoin George and Ginny as the Librarians of HHW. I tested this past Monday morning for a position at Tacoma Public Library, and received a phone call this morning telling me I have an interview for the job on Tuesday. At long last, a job I actually have experience for, having worked at the university library for 4-1/2 years. :D I know better than to get my hopes up at all at this point, but will surely keep you all updated if anything should come to pass from this.

Media Check -
Since all I mostly listen to these days is my iPod, my current favorite song is "You Won't Succeed On Broadway If You Don't Have Any Jews" That's on quite a lot
DVD- nothing
VCR - nothing
CD - computer - Myths and Hymns (been revisiting Adam Guettel) since I love the score for Piazza and didn't really like Myths and Hymns or even Floyd Collins I'm thinking I might change my mind as I listen to the older shows, so far, no dice!
-
Since I loathe almost everything about JOSEPH, I can't give any recommendation on which cast CD to buy (there are PLENTY to choose from). I have the original Broadway cast with Bill Hutton, but it's only on a casette. I never liked the score enough to upgrade tio CD.
-
Yep...
The current plan is dinner with my friend, Silvio...
Then head down to the theatre to pick up my paycheck...
Then down 95 to Richmond for the night...
...Again, that's the current plan. Always subject to change. A couple of times. Who knows?? I actually may end up in NYC later tonight.
;)
-
DR Ron, I just read this morning that FRASIER's sixth season is coming out at some point this summer, so there is another you'll be adding to your collection, I've no doubt.
-
There were 3 CD's for the splashy Joseph revival in the 90's, Jason Donovan, Donny Osmond, and Michael Damian as Joseph - all three have the same orchestrations (even the same orchestra!) but are mixed differently, and my opinion is the Donny O version is the best - although Linzi Hately is the Narrator on the Jason D version, that's the best thing about it.
Hands down, though, is the Original Broadway Recording with Laurie Beechman as the Narrator - it's not as fun as the revival, but it's my favorite.
-
My favorite recording of Joseph... has always been one of the original ones - the one with the cartoon cover. With the all-male cast. That's basically the one I grew up on. -And it was quite a shock the first time I heard a FEMALE Narrator! But a pleasant one.
:)
-
And I've been wanting to add MOONLIGHTING to my collection, too, but I haven't found a price I like yet. Keeping my eyes open for a used copy of that Seasons 1-2 set.
-

Yep, that's the one I've got. I believe she was the first female narrator on record. Nowadays (a Kander and Ebb reference) no director would even consider having a male narrator any more even though the piece started with one.
-
It's nice we can be frank about which Joseph recording is our favorite... or not :)
-
Time to go to work...
-
Dr Jennifer, I just saw the ratings for THE CUT. It came in second in its time slot for the first hour and led the last thirty minutes leading into a CSI rerun which had the night's highest rating.

-
We have the DVD of Donny Osmond doing Joseph I am not sure which CD of Joseph we have tho' I shall have to check when we get home.
I was very fond of this DVD and the Vixter loved it as well....
-
Much good luck on your interview, DR Jed. You have kept a stiff upper lip during all of this job search stuff, and I admire you for that.
-
Yep - The three versions of Joseph with the "coat-hanger" cover are all basically the same recording with the vocals dubbed in from the different leads/productions. If I'm remembering correctly (IIRC in internet speak), "they" were originally going to try to put out a different version of the CD with each major cast change. I actually would like to hear Patrick Cassidy on record.
*I'm still wondering if Nonesuch was thinking they would turn any sort of profit with the re-dubbing of Wonderful Town with Brooke Shields. Now I know recording replacement casts used to be a sort of normal, but still...
**Unless Ms. Shields has it in her contracts now that she must get a record deal too. -Did we really need her Rizzo on record? Is Chicago next?
-
Great News, DR Jed!!!
Have you checked with BK to see if he needs an assistant while he's up in Portland?

even "Those Canaan Days" and "One More Angel In Heaven"? I think those songs are hysterically funny....
-

I thought it was pretty nicely priced by Amazon, although Seasons 1 and 2 are only 23 one-hour episodes.
-
Well, I'm leaving the internet for now and going over my Act II lines and songs (the killer act for me). May or may not be back on tonight. There was some talk about going out after the performance tonight, so I'm not sure what my late night plans are.
-
BREAK A LEG, Georges!
-
even "Those Canaan Days" and "One More Angel In Heaven"? I think those songs are hysterically funny....
Can't stand the feeble attempts at outrageous humor/mimickry (seems like a lack of inspiration to me), and "Any Dream Will Do" is better than any sleeping pill ever invented.
-
VCR - The first two episodes of Beauty and the Geek (DS Rob: "The story of my life, Mom!") Rob came home yesterday for the summer and roped me into watching my first, ever, reality program.
And you haven"t disowned him???????

BREAK A LEG, Georges!
Thanks! That always helps!
-
Vixmom - I respect you to the gills... but to be Frank, (or Levi) I HATE "One More Angel in Heaven" and have asked the 4 times I've worked on the show to have it eliminated, and I get the strangest response from the Director. LOL
Incidently, I'm making my 5th "pit" appearence for this show in July. I just can't sit through rehearsals for this show again for quite a while!
-

I just like the lyrics
"You know you had a dozen sons, well now, that's not quite true...." and I love the use of a "country " song since we always joke in my house that all country songs must be about death, dismemberment or divorce
but that's what makes horse racing!!
when the Vixter was doing Peter Pan it was that dang "crowing" that drove me crazy!!
-
Thunder and lightning!
-
What would MacGuyver do?
A cd with Laurie Beechman & Jason Donovan would be my perfect JOSEPH.
Linzi is a hit or miss for me, but then NO ONE could do it like Laurie...NO ONE!
Thanks for the warning DRGEORGE. I skipped that post. Whew! That was close.

Well it is nearly time to head out for home so later gator

I think JOSEPH is the best of Sir Andrew's work; it does everything he does well here and nowhere else: rock and roll, parody, and a lot of good tunes. It was funny and silly when I saw Laurie do it, not the hyperbolic mess it later became. Since I find Sir Andrew guilty of usually stealing a better's tunes and then not knowing what to do with them, he has no time in JOSEPH to commit that error. The piece is too short.

The OBC is my favorite too. With the other versions, it seems that every song has been arranged to be a "showstopper" when they really aren't meant to be. I think it's a delightful little show that should stay little. Just my 2¢. :)

It was a fun production, and Laurie was great. I had two friends in the show, one now dead from AIDS and the other now an attorney. I didn't get to know Laurie until much later. She was a good lady and enormously talented. I was very fond of her

I have both of Brooke Shields' second cast recordings...I would have enjoyed them much more if they had rerecorded the entire new cast instead of just rerecording the songs that Brooke was in and leaving the rest of the CD exactly the same as before. When Kiss of the Spider Woman was rerecorded, they recorded the entire new cast and not just Vanessa L. Williams (and Howard McGillin and Brian Stokes Mitchell).
I remember when the Vanessa KotSW was released, she was interviewed on Regis and Kathy Lee. They said that this was only the third time ever when a subsequent cast of an original production had been recorded and commercially released. They mentioned the Pearl Bailey Hello, Dolly! but didn't name the last show. Does anyone know what the other show was that got a whole new recording?
-
Saw the show at Edyvean Repertory Theatre at a local seminary way back in the early 1980's. I didn't know anything about it, had never heard it. I liked it immediately, and bought the OBC - from the first few notes when Laurie started singing, it became one of my favorites.
Turns out my friend Bob went to school with Bill Hutton, the original Broadway Joseph, and said he was very nice and very talented....not the smartest person in any room....but then, who is?

Don't remember the Quentin Durward score, but I rather enjoy the movie and speaking of great action scenes...as we were the other day...it has a terrific climactic duel with Robert Taylor and the villain having a swordfight, swinging on bell ropes in a blazing church tower.

DR GEORGE - I am sure someone here will know the answer. I don't.

Quentin Durward makes me think of Durwood Kirby and Durwood Kirby makes me think of Rocky and Bullwinkle and the famous Kerwood Derby.

We just took a trip down memory lane-went to Fred's Bakery located near our high school. It looks exactly the same and I purchased the almond paste pastry I always had there. Keith's mother remember's Fred well. His children ran the business up until last month.
Bruce do you remember Fred's?

Geri??? Oy and vey, and a large one at that.

We can receive email but I won't have a connection to post or respond to email until we return home.
-
Don't remember Fred's, although I'm sure I went there.
The Volume 2 of Bernadette sounds very good. Some nice stuff on it, which she performs well.
I've been going and doing non-stop. But, I get to go to Musso and Frank to sup at five, so that will be a nice, relaxing break. I've written three pages of the short story, and done a bunch of other stuff. I'm now listening to my new 4CD Michel Legrand box set and it is AMAZING!

Joseph is still my favourite of ALW shows. I had the pleasure of seeing it performed by grade students in about 1971. I saw the first West End professional production in 1972 - mostly children and the only "star" was Gordon Waller (of Peter & Gordon). At that stage the show was coupled with Jacob's Journey. The recording of that show is still my favourite but I also quite like the Paul Jones (early Manfed Mann lead singer and London's Pippin). I saw J.C. Superstar the same year and loathed it - and still do!
-
All right, I shall now be on my way to Musso and Frank. I'll be back pretty early.

The joys of horseracing. I'll take Superstar over Joseph any day of the week, myself.

I actually have an autographed copy of Durwood Kirby's autobiography that my aunt sent me. I used to love The Gary Moore Show. "That wonderful, wonderful year."

Old Friends/Bookends -
DR Larry: Were turn of the century audiences gifted with a better attention span to cope with all those twists in the final act of "Babes in Toyland"?
DRTomovoz, the one thing I can say good about the BABES IN TOYLAND libretto is that it didn't talk down to children and it never ignored the more unpleasant aspects of life. Unlike the Laurel & Hardy, the Disney, and all other contemporary versions, the original dealt with child abuse, murder, demonic possession and dismemberment, public execution, and torture in 3 hours of vaudeviile, song, dance, and a lot of ladies in tights (the original ad on the side of the Majestic Theatre said "Cast of 104 - Mostly Girls" and a lot of those ladies were turning tricks after the show with their stagedoor johnnies).
I think the plot, for the most part Barnaby's trying to kill his nephew and niece for their inheritance, is very clearly laid out, but I'm sure the Act Three clause used to save Alan by marriage to a widow might have been incomprehensible to younger audiences. My goddaughter, at age 13, loved SLEEPY HOLLOW, but she was stymied by the inheritance plot. I suspect the kids got a little bored by the songs that were primarily intended for the adults like "The Moon Will Help You Out" (go have sex in the moonlight and land him) or "Before and After" (marital tribulation), but for a family show, it's so much more mature than anything currently being written. I fought constantly with the Houston Grand Opera about dumbing down the more violent aspects of the plot!
Now, if only Glen MacDonough had been a talent the size of W.S. Gilbert, the show might still be better regarded, but Glen's a second-stringer, and his libretto is poor dramaturgy. I love the killer dolls, though.
-
Or was it Oklahoma! that released volume 2 of songs

The joys of horseracing. I'll take Superstar over Joseph any day of the week, myself.
Well. you're wrong. DRJed, but I hope you get a job!
I do like a lot of Superstar myself. I always liked the bizarre film.

Well, HAIR had the original Public Theatre cast recording, then the Broadway cast recording, and OKLAHOMA! did get a second set of 78's from Decca with Alfred Drake singing Jud's "Lonely Room."
-
Thank you DR Elmore. I love the "widow" clause.
-
Well, HAIR had the original Public Theatre cast recording, then the Broadway cast recording, and OKLAHOMA! did get a second set of 78's from Decca with Alfred Drake singing Jud's "Lonely Room."
I'm still thinking about that third show. HELLO, DOLLY! had three original cast recordings: Carol Channing, Pearl Bailey, and Mary Martin, which was primarily the cast of the first national tour I saw in Cincinnati; I think it's LORELEI, which had two recordings beyond GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, with Carol Channing, Leeroy Reams, etc.
-
Thank you DR Elmore. I love the "widow" clause.
You know, it's interesting in the denouement: Alan is saved by Mary's becoming a widow, but the truth about Uncle Barnaby's involvement in the Toymaker's murder is never disclosed; Alan technically is a freed murderer at the finale as opposed to being exonerated.
The 1902 WIZARD OF OZ must have been incomprehensible to children as well: outside of the cyclone blowing Dorothy and her cow Imogene to Oz, there are no wicked witches, and the plot involves Dorothy being chased by poet laureate Dashemoff Daley, the lady lunatic looking for her lost love who turns out to be the Tin Man, and Pastoria's plot to take over Oz and execute the Wizard! I expect they loved the Montgomery & Stone antics like "Baffin's Bay" and the Football Song, and all the singing and dancing and had no idea what the hell was happening.
-
Some of us here still think there is a plot to take over OZ. -led by George Bush.

George Bush wants to take over the TV show "OZ?" I wonder what Christopher Meloni has to say about that?? ;)

We have the DVD of Donny Osmond doing Joseph I am not sure which CD of Joseph we have tho' I shall have to check when we get home.
I was very fond of this DVD and the Vixter loved it as well....
WARNING! Very Gay Comment Ahead:
I thought Donny Osmond was wonderful in the touring company of JOSEPH, so I was really looking forward to the DVD. When I finally saw it, I was very disappointed in the way they staged it for the video, but, to make matters worse, Donny shaved his chest for the video. Now why in the world would you tour all over the hinterland and back, exposing your hairy chest to the world, but then shave it for the video??? It just seemed weird.
-
America loves the boy from OZ and wants the rest of us too. A musical written for Jackman is what I would like to see. Van Helsing the musical. NOT.
Another reminder - Mr Crowe is from New Zealand!

Hummm... I think Jackman and Crowe in La Cage Aux Folles would be a treat!
What are you trying to say?
Oz is better than New Zealand?
In the latter, people make their telephones fly with more... zeal? ;)
Is it true that some US "papers" call Mr Crowe "Jerkus Maximus"?

I'm saying that without perfidy, but, it's way easy for moi to be frank... de Paris!
-
Does this mean I've gotta shave when we take AGYG on the road?
I suppose that would depend on what road we take AGYG (orchestrations by Larry Moore) on.
-
I guess, for the video, Mr Osmond had to be PC: pure chested!
After all; he was not appearing in a revival of HAIR! :D
-
Does this mean I've gotta shave when we take AGYG on the road?
Only for the video. And which cheeks are you shaving?
Yes, DRFrancois, Mr Crowe is getting trashed daily in Manhattan. Ah, fame, thou glittering bauble!
-
I suppose that would depend on what road we take AGYG (orchestrations by Larry Moore) on.
I got the wrong post! Is it the Road to Ruin?
-
Does this mean I've gotta shave when we take AGYG on the road?
ONLY if they commercialize a video of your production. :)
-
Only for the video. And which cheeks are you shaving?
The answer to that question determines whether or not it ends up in your VCR, right, Larry?
-
After all; he was not appearing in a revival of HAIR! :D
I'm sure several in the audience preferred he were.
-
The answer to that question determines whether or not it ends up in your VCR, right, Larry?
Are you calling yourself cheap? Like father like son.
-
I got the wrong post! Is it the Road to Ruin?
The Road to Ruin starring Dubya singing the Desert Song????
-
Well, that stopped conversation!
-
The Road to Ruin starring Dubya singing the Desert Song????
Well, I wouldn't sing "Moonlight Becomes You" to Dubya on his Road to Ruin.
-
I suppose that would depend on what road we take AGYG (orchestrations by Larry Moore) on.
So, how does it sound with four(?) keyboards?
-
Help! I'm a frenzy!
-
Oh, dear father, have you seen the review that was supposed to be in the Tribune today yet? I checked their website earlier to no avail.
-
So, how does it sound with four(?) keyboards?
About as good as can be expected when played on four keyboards.
-
About as good as can be expected when played on four keyboards.
Not like a big pianola? Where is Ethel Toffelmeier?
-
A sparkling HHW day with friendly banter. Thank you for the smiles DRs.
Question for DRs: Are there singers who you admire but in fact have difficulty in listening to a whole CD of their singing.
Doris Day and Petula Clark are on my list as is Elvis Costello.
Exception with Ms Day is the Cd of sixties singles mentioned today by DR JRand. (I bought it after reading that he had done so!! - Ah the influence of HHW DRs).

Elly Stone, Dory Previn and Maria Callas, all intelligent performers.
Darlene Edwards and Mrs Miller who prove a little goes a long way.
-
Well, I wouldn't sing "Moonlight Becomes You" to Dubya on his Road to Ruin.
What about "Mooning" from GREASE??? :o
-
I don't think I could get through more than 10 minutes of Darlene and Mrs Miller.
-
Who's Mrs Miller, asks ignorant me????
(PLEASE, don't tell me it's... Mr Miller's wife!!)
-
I have a hard time listening to a lot of Miss Peters and Miss Lupone!
-
Same with... Joe Cocker!
-
I must say, a little Streisand goes a loooooong way...
-
BUT.... I can listen to the one and only Oz wonder for hours:
Anthony WARLOW!
-
Who's Mrs Miller, asks ignorant me????
(PLEASE, don't tell me it's... Mr Miller's wife!!)
I wonder if I should send you a copy of her "best".
-
What about "Mooning" from GREASE??? :o
Isn't Jed singing that in AGYG?
-
I can't stand Maria Stone, Dory Callas and Elly Previn!
Never heard of them???
They're French singers!
-
I have a hard time listening to a lot of Miss Peters and Miss Lupone!
You are not alone.
-
Same with... Joe Cocker!
Well, I haven't seen Ms Peters or Mr Cocker in the same room at the same time.
Now, Betty Buckley's got a voice for peeling paint off walls.
-
I wonder if I should send you a copy of her "best".
THAT would be better than her worst! ;D
-
Hmmm, I think the same of Miss Streisand, although her early stuff is easier to hear. I love Karen Akers but in small doses.
-
Off to the theater!
-
Well, I haven't seen Ms Peters or Mr Cocker in the same room at the same time.
Hummmm.... TCB would detect some double-entendre there I'm sure! ;)
-
Ah, yes, Miss Buckley. I know she is adored by many but she, I don't "get"
-
Me too with Karen Akers DR Ben. Gave up after her "French" album. I Lost Betty Buckley along the way too.
-
Elly Stone's major fame comes from interpreting the famous mistaken Frenchman but really Belgian, Jacques Brel (by the way, did you know he's alive and well and living in Paris?)
-
Now, Betty Buckley's got a voice for peeling paint off walls.
Well, what do you say of Tammy Grimes then? :-\
-
If RLP were on board today I'd say much about Bette Midler. Very small doses.
If I choose to play a Streisand Cd, I tend to go back to "Simply Streisand" years.
-
Well, what do you say of Tammy Grimes then? :-\
[/quote
!
I like Tammy Grimes
-
BTW, I spoke to Anthony earlier and relayed all your good birthday wishes. He was very thankful and touched. He had to work on his birthday. Ah, life in the theatre. But there was a little birthday celebration during an afternoon break. There are actually two birthdays in their cast today. Anthony and Jose's friend, Nick, who is playing Hero. They had a cake at break and Anthony and Nick got cards and little gifts and tomorrow the cast is taking both of them out for a birthday celebration.
-
Didn't DR Elmore mention Elly's sister Rosetta yesterday?
-

Oh boy.... news are slow at reaching the USA, I'm afraid! ;)

;D ;D ;D

Oh, no. You don't mean... ;)

My, we are a talkative bunch tonight. If only Bruce were here to see us keeping the home fries burning. I thought they only did that at my corner diner.
-

Even then, I don't know why she felt that she had to "scream her lungs out" to move us and -- don't get me wrong, I like Streisand! -- her pronunciation has never been that fantastic; imho!
-
I am now listening to a recently purchased Cd of Kay Starr. Just noticed one of the writers of her 1955 song "Good and Lonesome" was Fred Ebb.

Fred who?

DR MBarnum would think his last name was Tide.
-
DR MBarnum would think his last name was Tide.
DR MBARNUM; Tomovoz does NOT mean it!
It's just for the joke! :D
-
DR MBarnum would think his last name was Tide.
Tom, your repartee is full of Kandor and "perfidy"! ;)
-
DR MBarnum would think his last name was Tide.
Better than Procter or Gamble!

Good Evening!
Greeting from Richmond!
Nice drove down from DC, and I stopped at Starbucks for some Chocolate Chip Frappacinos before eventually ending up at Steve's.
And, now, we're gonna watch this week's "Six Feet Under" final season opener on "On Demand"...
Laters...

What does that mean--"tame"?
It is an act too often neglected...
It means to establish ties.
To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys.
And I have no need of you. And you on your part have no need of me...
But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world...
If you tame me; it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life. I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all the others. Other steps send me hurrying back underneath the ground. Yours will call me, like music, out of my burrow... Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me!...
Please-- tame me!
One only understands the things that one tames... there is no shop anywhere where you can buy friendship... If you want a friend, tame me...
What must I do to tame you?
You must be very patient... first you will sit down at a little distance from me-- like that-- in the grass. I shall look at you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing. Words are the source of misunderstandings. But you will sit closer to me every day...
As yet you are nothing. No one has tamed you, and you have tamed no one... But I have made him my friend, and now he is unique in all the world.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince.
-
A story so beautiful François.
I wish it were wider known in this country. A friend years ago used to use it as a class book in his Senior English classes. I think he would have been almost alone in his choice.
MBarnum: The Little Prince Of Tides.

What lovely postings to come home to. I had a sparkling dinner at Musso and Frank - everything was yummilicious and the restaurant is back in my good graces.
PERFIDY, baby, PERFIDY!

A Step At A Time (Closer and Closer and Closer)
Lyrics: A.J. LERNER.
(Fox)
In time
I'll start to feel at ease
Show my face
And will beginter
Get closer
And closer
And closer
We'll go a glance at a time
A small advance at a time
We'll be afraid a bit
And shy a bit
Avoid each others eye a bit
Less often each day
The ice'll soften each day
As we get closer and closer and closer
We'll go a blush at a time
A happy flush at a time
Begin to laugh a bit
And stare a bit
And walk around on air a bit
As gaily we grow
As night and daily we grow
A little closer and closer and closer
And then one day
There'll come a day
A Christmas eve
Midsummer day
A moment when
Right there and then
We're gonna touch
Then we'll jump miles at a time
A million smiles at a time
Begin to love a lot
And live a lot
And give and give and give a lot
Away we will go
And every day we will grow
A little closer and closer and closer and closer and closer and closer and closer and closer all the time
And then one day
There'll come a day
A Christmas eve
Midsummer day
A moment when
Right there and then
We're gonna touch
(Fox & Prince)
A small advance a time
We'll be afraid a bit
And shy a bit
Avoid each others eye a bit
Less often each day
The ice'll soften each day
(Prince)
As we get closer and closer and closer
(Both)
We'll go a blush at a time
A happy flush at a time
Begin to laugh a bit
And stare a bit
And walk around on air a bit
As gaily we grow
As night and daily we grow
A little closer and closer and closer
(Fox)
And then one day
(Prince)
There'll come a day
(Fox)
A Christmas eve
(Prince)
Midsummer day

And live a lot
And give and give and give a lot

A little closer and closer and closer and closer and closer and closer and closer and closer all the time

The Mrs. Miller who always in the audience of the Merv Griffin Show?
-
I think Mrs. Miller is swell.
-
Hey, Tomovoz -- are you familiar with a singer named Wing? She's from New Zealand.
-
Hello Laura. Only from the NET. She has had no success whatsoever in OZ. Maybe she's a hobbit.
-
Guess he can't really be a hobbit - she is from Hong Kong but now lives in New Zealand.
-
Wing is great. As great as Mrs. Miller, I'd say.
-

That is a worry. :)

Different Mrs. Miller - read all about the singer who exploded on the scene in 1966. Her Capitol albums were produced by Mr Paul Weston aka Jonathan Edwards.

DR TOMovOZ - I am enjoying the Doris Day Singles Cd even more than I thought I would. The songs are familiar from the movies, but I didn't have MOST of them on any kind of recording.
Really like MOVE OVER, DARLING and PLEASE DON'T EAT THE DAISIES and LET THE LITTLE GIRL LIMBO....oh, and CATCH THE BOUQUET!
Lots of fun.
-
Well, thanks to the internet, I have found out who Mrs Miller was -- I won't die as stupid as I thought I would! LOL!
I'll take Petula's version of DOWNTOWN over hers anytime, of course!
-
Very enjoyable Jack. Maybe my pop ear is more atuned to the 1960's sound. "Move Over Darling" was a top 40 hit here but nothing else. The Limbo song is a delight. Competition for Eydie's bossa nova - but it didn't happen. Good companion piece to the twist records by Steve Lawrence and Frank Sinatra.
Thanks Jack - without your mention of the Cd a few weeks back I would not have known about it.
-
DR Sandra, paying her respects to Mrs. Miller, who is entombed near the top, with the peach-colored flowers.

You mean... there's another one :o
Because this IS the one of thought we were talking about!
Oh, never mind!
I'm going to listen to Lauren Bacall then! ;)
-
That second OKLAHOMA 78 set would not qualify as a replacement cast album. That was the same original cast but with the three numbers that were not included on the original 78 set. Of course, Alfred Drake sang "Lonely Room" instead of Howard Da Silva, but he wasn't a replacement Jud.
The Mary Martin HELLO DOLLY was the London cast album, I believe. I have it (in another room), and I believe it's advertised as such on the jacket, not as a touring company. The Pearl Bailey IS advertised as the NEW Broadway cast.
Can't speak for DisinHAIRited. I never heard it, so I don't know if the replacement cast of HAIR or not. There were certainly more than one version of the ROCKY HORROR SHOW, weren't there?
Could it be FIDDLER ON THE ROOF with Hershell Bernardi?

Never noticed before but now you're mentioning it!! ;D

Nope, her name wasn't Mrs. Miller. It was MISS Miller.

OK. It's very late here. I'm only on because the cast went out after the show, and I'm just now getting home. Off to bed now. "Good night, sweetheart. . . ."

On second thought:

Wing is very scary. Especially her Carpenter's covers... very scary.
-
Wing is very scary. Especially her Carpenter's covers... very scary.
Agreed. But fun, nonetheless.
-
Oh, that was Wing you were playing in the living room. I thought the cat was caught in something.
Happy birthday to Anthony! I know this is a little late, but there it is.
-
What an extraordinary day and evening of postings!
I shall now hie myself off to notesland, and yes, Virginia, we will have an Unseemly Trivia Contest.
-
I'd like to hear a duet by WIng and William Hung
NOT!!!!
-
Wow, an explosion of posts!
Hope Ben's Anthony had a great birthday. I don't think I can meet up with you fellas tomorrow. My eldest sis just arrived in town from California and she's gonna drag me around the city, and then to a ball game, even though we are both recovering from colds. Anyways, we must all meet up one o' these days.
Mrs. Miller rocks. I am seeking her rare third LP on Amaret Records.
-
Elmore, did you ever see that dark '80s failed Wizard of Oz sequel RETURN TO OZ? It's a movie that would never be made today.
-
With a sad lament my dreams have faded like a broken melody
While the Gods of love look down and laugh at what romantic fools we mortals be
And now..
I know my love was not for you
And so I take it back with a sigh
PERFIDIOUS one, goodbye!
-
Oh, that was Wing you were playing in the living room. I thought the cat was caught in something.
;D
-
Great job vibes to you, Jed!
-
Sorry DRs TCB and Jed - think I've just slept through your show.
-
Sorry DRs TCB and Jed - think I've just slept through your show.
Well, so did our Tommy.
-
Well, so did our Tommy.
:)
-
Seriously, your Tommy missed your show? As in the charactor... isn't he the other half of Winnie, or am I just hallucinating?
-
Maybe your Tommy thought he was in Brigadoon.
-
Seriously, your Tommy missed your show? As in the charactor... isn't he the other half of Winnie, or am I just hallucinating?
Thankfully, he only missed one scene, and it was covered quite nicely by our Annie, Winnie, and Dolly. Thing is... this is the second time in just four performances that this guy has missed a freakin' scene!
-
Gosh dang, that was a lot of posts to read through!
And I have 9 minutes to get my media check in:
CD: EBB TIDE: 15 wonderful, varied versions of EBB TIDE, one of my favorite songs...courtesy of our DJ from down under DR Tomovoz!
DVD: Just arrived DVDs of TV shows PRIVATE SECRETARY and SKY KING.
VHS: Nothing.
-
I'm now happy to say that I now have all Theatre Worlds in jacket except for five issues. I think the hardest one to get will be volume one - I can't find one at any price on the Internet. There are a few available in paperback, and one or two in hardback sans jacket. I think by next week, I'll have all but two, pretty good, I think. I'm loving having these Theatre Worlds.
-
New notes shortly. Then we can have a late-night frenzy!
-
We can do the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance)!
-
Where is he when he's supposed to be onstage??
I was doing I Remember Mama a few years back as Papa, and I had a scene that began with me clowning around with my youngest daughter with some sugar cubes. Curtain opens, lights up, me at kitchen table, NO DAUGHTER! I ad-libbed something lame like, "Such a morning!" It was a nightmare. Then as another actress shows up to cover, the daughter comes running on. She had been having fun with friends and forgot about her scene. Egads!
-
I'd love to have enough energy to do the Lambada. Alas I haven't and it is forbidden by my nurse.
-
There's nothing like owning a complete set of something.
-
Even a gentle, healing Lambada, Tomovoz? Healing Lambadas are all the rage here in the States. Healing Lambadas with Aloe.
