Well, you've read the notes, the notes came to visit, and now it is time for you to post until the visiting cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GREGARIOUS!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I think the time change hit me this morning, and I am not happy about it.
-
BK, I don't think that's John Mauceri, but like you, I'm not sure.
-
DR Jeanne, if I scheduled my trips a week ahead, I'd call then the day before the trips to confirm them. I'm happy everything worked out, but you don't need the stress before surgery.
-
I'm ready to return to bed for another hour.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, all.
-
An on-and-off night of sleep, and none of the dreams have made themselves known. Would sure love to fall back to sleep for an hour.
-
In 1979/80 I lived two blocks south of Factor’s, and I enjoyed some good lox-and-bagel breakfasts there.
I remember driving down to where Beverly Drive circles around that little park and sitting there for a while reading. So BK’s house would have been just four houses to the east. For me, Beverlywood meant that area and the neighborhood to the south.
-
I did go back to bed for an hour and lay down with the cats. I did not sleep because the neuropathy in my right leg had it throbbing while ny foot felt as if someone were jabbing needles into my big toe.
-
I'm ready to return to bed for another hour.
Like you, I felt the same way 90 minutes ago. So I did go back to bed. If the damned phone hadn't rung, I'd still be there.
If I pay for my phone and the phone service, it seems I should have some say in who calls me. Telemarketers are absolutely without shame.
I understand it's a job, just as it used to be a job for people who went door-to-door selling magazine subscriptions. Yes, I sometimes subscribed just because the salesperson looked so hopeful.
But now, they call and you answer...and get no reply...and if you say hello again (and again) someone might start talking to you or you get a recording. I have zero patience with that. I say THEY should pay for that call, not me.
-
Good morning, I say pleasantly.
-
It's on its way...
-
Yesterday warmed up, the sun shone, and the day was glorious.
Today, everything started brightly, but we have a storm front moving in. The rains probably won't start until tonight. Tomorrow looks to be hellish, weather-wise.
I love rain, but I don't love it over several days. Let it rain, and then let the sun shine.
-
I had a most pleasant night of sleep. I had pleasant dreams, as well.
Of course, it's a bit odd to me that the one dream that was most vivid was of me running into a former co-worker in Oakland who was coming to my business to meet with someone. We crossed a couple of streets on foot, but then he wanted to get into my building via the parking garage.
But, I explained, I gave up my parking access when I retired, so I cannot get us in this way. Let's use the main entrance.
No, he explained. He might run into the person he was there to meet.
All right. Color me puzzled and perplexed as to why I would dream such a thing. I retired and never once went back to the offices where I worked. I met with the people in restaurants, but I couldn't have been bothered to go back to the offices.
Oh, well.
-
Vibes of all kind to DR JEANNE.
-
DR ELMORE I hope your day gets better.
-
I was thinking more on yesterday’s school lunch TOD, trying to recall what kind of sandwiches I would have brought from home. Baloney (I refuse to call it bologna), certainly. Cheese, probably. Maybe peanut butter and jelly. All very simple stuff, on white bread. And just American cheese.
DR John G. mentioned an olive spread, something I love but which I was never exposed to as a kid.
DR Jrand71 mentioned sloppy joes, which is very likely something we had in the school cafeterias. I hadn’t thought of that. I really liked them as a kid, but didn’t have any for a few decades. I REALLY love them now as an adult.
-
Just remember...
-
I was most amused at the reaction to my Manhattan imbibation.....I am trying to find out what it is that was called that on our lunch menus, but I cannot find it......
HOWEVER I did recall the Olive Wars.
One day when I was a sophomore, we all got about five olives in one of our plate compartments. This was something new.....we had never had such a thing.....and they were black olives!
Sometime during the lunch, someone threw an olive to a friend, and then another person did and then another and another and another...soon the air was full of black olives being hoisted from table to table.
The lunch ladies scattered and started clapping their hands demanding that the disrespect to the vegetables cease immediately, but they were of course outvoted.
Eventually the ADMINISTRATION was called. We were all properly chastised and had to remain in the lunch room for the REST of the lunch break.....
And olives were never served for lunch again.

Oh....a Beef Manhattan.

TOD:
Downton Abbey (hands down)
Grantchester (until James Norton left the cast)

Oh....a Beef Manhattan.
https://cookthink.com/the-best-beef-manhattan-recipe/
I forgot to comment on the Manhattan name which was most amusing. I had never heard of this dish, and it sounds great. And it even hails from Indianapolis!
I guess it’s not altogether different from a typical open-faced sandwich, then, except that the mashed potatoes go right on it? Speaking of which, I haven’t had a hot open-faced sandwich in several years, and I would kill for one right about now.
-
From DR George:
Jane's only four, count 'em, FOUR posts from 111,000 posts! :D
Wow, now only three ;)
-
Crazy day at work. I hope it settles down.
-
Congratulations on you impending milestone, DR Jane.

You can deliver to San Antonio, right?
-
Hasta, page one …
-
Time for two!
-
I never heard of beef manhattan, but we used to have creamed chipped beef aka sh*t on a shingle quite often, but I cannot remember if that was in junior high or high school.
-
Oh yes, we had that, too. And certainly at home. I loved it then and would probably love it now. I have no idea when I last had it.
And -- same here. With most of these, I don't remember whether they were grade school, junior high, high school, or all of the above.
-
Just got back from Shop Rite with the St. Paddy's Day goods. Thursday is cookin' day.

My first childhood home was in Beverlywood on S Crest Dr, a ten minute walk to Circle Park.

I agree. It is very annoying to have to pay for a call that technically isn't even legal since I am on the no call list.

I liked chopped olive and mayo sandwiches for lunch.
-
Oops, I zipped through my milestone without stopping ;D
-
It is an eight minute walk from my first home to Bruce's second home on Bolton.
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep. Waiting to hear from Grant. I have a feeling he'll try to do this so late in the afternoon that it will be impossible, as I have to be at the theater at six.
-
Had some problematic emails this morning that will make things difficult, show-wise - not cast issues.
-
Oy.
-
Book fixes at one, so that's good.
-
Whew! :)
-
This morning I was asked to play/MD a production of Peter and the Starcatcher in June.
I know nothing about it except that it's "a play with music" as opposed to a musical, and though there are only a few songs, it's awkwardly written for piano (i.e., for a pianist who has at least three hands) and percussion, but that it could actually be lots of fun once you come to terms with it. But that's not a good time for me, and I had to pass. Too bad, because both the director and choreographer are two of our area's best. They'll do really well with it. But I also want to get to know it at some point before jumping in.

Hmmm...

DR Jeanne I hope you are feeling better today.

Wow!

Nothing like that happened at my school. :-\
-
Oops, I zipped through my milestone without stopping ;D
Well, at least this could be preserved before you went too far :D
-
Now, you'll definitely need to stop when you reach 111,111 posts!
-
My goodness, it's been a day! Still catching up.
-
However, ~~~ULTIMATE RECUPERATION VIBES~~~ for DR Jeanne!!!!!
-
I'm kind of surprised they'd allow you to leave via Uber or Lyft or taxi. The few times I've had in-patient or out-patient surgery, I have to have my driver with me and they haven't allowed any kind of outsourced transportation.
-
I'm glad it all worked out.

I miss references every now and again. Who didn't have someone with him or her and took a commercial ride from a medical procedure?
-
Congrats to DR JANE on her millstone.
-
It has been a very quiet, low-key day except for some phone calls I made regarding various medical appointments. All is well.
Even though it's an hour later than it ought to be, theoretically, the day sure passes by quickly.
That said, the U.S. Senate passed a bill today that would make daylight savings time permanent. If it is approved by all of Congress, it would become effective in November 2023.
-
Ah, I see we have entered Page 3.
-
Yes DR CHAS SMITH the mashed potatoes go righ on top of the bread.
I explained the dish to my mother who immediately proclaimed that such a heathen dish would never be prepared in her kitchen. Potatoes on bread was an abomination.

Does anyone here remember all the fuss that was made over the possibility that computers wouldn't work once the year 2000 arrived?
It was called Y2K...and businesses, especially, freaked out over it.
Hard to believe that was more than 22 years ago!
-
Tickets for An Officer and a Gentleman: The (Jukebox) Musical just went down to 50% off.
I usher for it Sunday.
-
Hello, everyone.

Hi, DR Jeanne!

Congratulations to DR Jane on her lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!
-
Hi, DR Jeanne!
-

;D
-
DR Jeanne - I'm sure you planned ahead and have food and all you need for the next few days. If not, there's always delivery!
-
Glad you are able to post.
-
I am quite pleased at how I'm doing today. No pain at all from yesterday's outpatient surgery, but I am VERY tired. When I've had these things in the past I allowed 4 days of recuperation -- and needed every bit of it. This time is easier.
-
I am picturing an olive war quite vividly. :)

Hi, Sing. Hi, John G.
-
Hi, Ron. Hi, Jack.
-
DR Jeanne - I'm sure you planned ahead and have food and all you need for the next few days. If not, there's always delivery!
Yes, I always have lots of preparation to do before I go into couch potato mode. I stocked up on food that I can heat up easily, but I want something different today--at least for lunch, so I've ordered from GrubHub.
-

Time for lunch and a nap.
TTFN.

Fixes entered and book is ready for the publisher.

Great news, Jeanne!

Congratulations!! Great news.

Nothing like that happened at my school. :-\
While I was never involved in a food fight at school, or have knowledge of one, I certainly was involved in a few good food fights outside of school :)
-
I am picturing an olive war quite vividly. :)
So am I. I see myself in the middle eating any that fly by me.
-
Like a frog catching flies, DR John G.?
-
We are close!
-
We can do this!
-
The time is nigh!
-
Almost!
-
FOUR!!!!
-
Whew.
-
NO one can say we didn't get to four.
-
Let 'em try!
-
I will laugh at them!
-
HA!
-
Photo in the notes - 1997 - the two people in question are John Fricke and Billy Stritch.

Angela Lansbury does an excellent "Ha!" on the OBC of Anyone Can Whistle.
-
Good to know, bk. Thanks!

Did we ever solve the mystery of the third Harvey Schmidt painting?

Yes, while an olive food fight sounds fun I too would want to eat the olives ;D
-
By the way, I checked out the Manze Vaughan Williams symphony recordings. It looks like you would need to get 5 CDs to get all 9 symphonies.
-
The Senate just voted to abolish Standard Time and make Daylight Saving Time permanent. Now it goes to the House for a vote.
DR Laura I was surprised that Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) was on board with the change. I thought Arizona wanted to stay on Standard Time.

Good afternoon.

I'm ready to return to bed for another hour.

The last thing Arizona wants or needs is more sunlight in the summer.

We had ground beef in gravy over instant mashed potatoes in school. My sister called it Gravy Train.
-
DR Jane I can't remember if I thanked you for the beautiful card that you sent. I really appreciate it.

LOL, as in dog food.

I shall shortly be on my way to the mail place and then the theater.

Heading to bed early this evening. Good night, friends!

See if you still think it is cool during the darkest days of winter, if it passes.
-
I realized I missed a page or two of posts today.
-
My eyes are saying to shut my computer off. Now that I have caught up with DR Jeanne's good news.....
-
'night
-
Been listening to a wonderful recording of Mendelssohn's piano trios played by Emmanuel Ax, Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman. Just inspired playing of two pieces that I guess I should have been familiar with but wasn't. I've heard both trios now twice through. Very peaceful.
-
Fading.
-
Good night, all.
-
Back from a productive rehearsal. Since I was missing two people, I spent the evening running all the group numbers and getting everyone used to the set and entering and exiting, so that was very helpful.
-
Naturally, Microsoft wants to do an update - every two weeks or so - I find it quite irritating but if you don't do it, then you just get pop-up reminders five times a day.
-
My computer hasn't needed an update for awhile...sometime last year, I think.
-
My new phone had an update this weekend.
-
I didn't notice any difference, so it obviously went okayly. ;)
-
Hey, George.
-
Earlier this evening, I was going through some papers and I found a gift certificate for a local business that sells (sold?) "Bamboo Clothing, Bedding, Towels and other items for a sustainable planet."
-
Hey, George.
Hi, Tom.
-
I don't know if that bamboo business is still in business.
-
I just checked their website and nope...it no longer exists.
-
How are you doing, Tom?
-
I just checked their website and nope...it no longer exists.
Oh, no!
-
I am okay, tired of being at home.
-
So, I went to the grocery store and the pharmacy today.
-
So, I went to the grocery store and the pharmacy today.
Good! Hopefully, it all went well.
-
SIX!
-
Yes, everything went well.
