Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a good three-notes weekend, and now it is time for you to post until the weekend cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AESTHETIC!
-
Topic of the Day: I don't know enough about classical music to have an opinion. ::)
-
From last night: Tom, you're right. Nathan Chan was the cellist. ::) I wasn't paying attention when I typed his name. Here's Mr. Chan's picture:

Good morning, all!
-
I did not sleep well last night, and when I did sleep, I had very peculiar dreams. My last one seemed to be a TV game show, spying on a neighbor, and and none of it makes sense now. Carmen Cusack, Tony-nominee for the musical Bright Star, was in much of it.
-
This is a quiet day for me. I need to schedule that CT scan of my sinuses, and I have some tidying up to do.
-
DR George, I saw your comment about no cat. What happened to Neve?
-
I started watching Woody Allen's film Cafe Society. I am uncertain about continuing it. I could not get into it at all.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I have to go into the office.
-
I’m too tired to get up yet.
-
TOd:
Kurt Weill and George Antheil are the first to come to mind.
-
Kitty cleanup is over, and I'm girding my loins to bring up 40 lbs of new litter.

TOD:
My favorite composer is Edward Elgar, but I guess he's more mainstream than not.

I've been thinking about the TOD:
British:
Edward German
Arthur Sullivan
American:
Victor Herbert
French:
Jacques Offenbach
Darius Milhaud
Andre Messager
Louis Ganne
German:
Franz von Suppé
Carl Millöcker
Kurt Weill
Czech:

Revival last night went well.
The visiting pastor has a high voice and he's loud. Tends to speak a bit too fast.
The music director has a beautiful bass voice and sang a couple of solos. When he led the congregation, we all sounded full-throated and filled the church.

It is a gorgeous Monday morning here in Johnston SC.
The weather guessers saw we will have some isolated thunder showers tomorrow throughout the day.
Drat.
-
I, too, did not wish to get out of bed when I did, but needs must.
I got 8 hours of sleep. That should be enough to do me.
-
Good morning, all.
-
And will you look at that? It's a Monday, once again.
-
And it's: Tech Week!
At least I don't have to be at rehearsals till 4pm each day, except today when I'll go in early to get set up in the pit.
-
My CT scan is now scheduled for Thursday morning.
-
I survived my second Covid booster with no ill effects after. I'm one of the lucky ones.
-
Kurt Weill for sure, and I'll add Francis Poulenc to DR Elmore's Milhaud and Offenbach.
-
I keep forgetting to schedule the second booster. I'll see if I can get this next Sunday or Monday, which gives me a couple of days not to have to go anywhere, assuming it leaves me a little fatigued the following day like before.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I'm waiting for a Nathan who can play cello and skate at the same time.

DR George, I saw your comment about no cat. What happened to Neve?
Unfortunately, she passed away about a year and a half ago. :(

I only had her for about three years, but I think she was 18 years old, so she had a good long life. :)

I’m liking the additions to the TOD.
Recent additions would include Florence Price and William Grant Still.

From DR Singdaw:
The concert was successful musically, DR Jane. I don't know how much they raised for Ukraine. But the venue was full.
I am glad it was a good concert with a full audience.
-
Bruce, I am also glad you had a terrific matinee.
-
DR George thanks for explaining my confusing post to DR TCB.
-
For those of you who forgot about Neve passing, it was probably due to DR George's father going into the hospital on the same day :(

I am wondering who among you has had cataract surgery.
My doctor at the VA wants me to have surgery on the 9th of May.
In order to do this, I must have an appointment on the 2nd of May, I was told, for preparation.
Oddly, to me, I have THREE appointments on the 2nd of May: One at 9:30, one at 12:30 and one at 1:30. I cannot imagine having to be briefed by three different offices for one procedure.
I believe one is for anesthesia, but what the other two are I haven't a clue.
Any ideas?

Soon by book group will be discussing an unusual book, The Legend of Colton H. Bryant by Alexandra Fuller.
-
The book is nonfiction, however, the author admits taking narrative liberties and composing dialogue, and occasionally juggled chronology “to create a smoother story line”.

Monday evening greetings! We did some errands today and had lunch at Main Street Deli in Springboro. They’re in a new location, still on Main Street. The sandwiches were as good as ever, but you no longer get chips and a pickle unless you order a “combo” for an additional charge.
-
I'm up, I'm up - all told, about nine and a half hours of sleep - here's how it went. Slept maybe two hours from 3:30 to 5:30. Up for ninety minutes. Slept from 6:30 to app 9:30 - the publisher called, so I had that conversation then we got them all the book files, so they're now in possession of all that and doing their initial check-in process, which usually takes two or three days, after which it goes to the designer team. Back to bed at 10:30, slept till 3:30. I think the math doesn't work, but I know I got nine and a half.
-
And I'm groggy as HELL.
-
And, of course, not much left to the day, which is fine.
-
Not sure about food.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Hello, DR Jeanne.
-
It has rained most of the day here and it’s much cooler than this morning.
-
DR Ron, I had cataract surgery in 2017 and my husband followed in 2019. I suspect one of your appointments will be for taking measurements to determine the size of the lens to be implanted. And, yes, you’ll be semi-awake, but still under the care of an anesthesiologist.
You may also be meeting with someone who will explain the pre-op and post-op eye drops routine.
-
TOD: Is William Latham considered not in the mainstream?
This is a favorite by him.
"Brighton Beach" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpnJHJkC2UA
-
Ron, they really should explain all this to you. Maybe that's why they scheduled so many appointments.
They usually do one eye first, then the second one a few weeks later. During the interim your glasses will not work well for you! I was unable to drive until the second eye was done.
There's a complicated schedule for prescription eye drops that must be adhered to for maybe 10 days in advance. No eye drops, no surgery. I had 3 prescriptions, each on a different schedule. Again, they need to be clear on this and should give it to you in writing and be available for questions.
I had "twilight anesthesia," which is supposedly a dreamlike state. I was out cold and felt no pain. The procedure only takes about 15 minutes, but you may have some pain afterwards.
-
Your schedule seems rather rushed to me. It took Rite-Aid Pharmacy TWO WEEKS to dispense 3 sets of eye drops. (Don't ask why.) I don't think a week would give you enough time. I hate being rushed and would probably tell them that they needed to give me a better idea of what would be going on before we schedule.

Someone introduced me to Quordle. It's where you have to solve 4 Wordles at once. It's very bizarre. I think that i like it. But i'm not sure if the best strategy is to use up a lot of letters first before trying to solve any of the puzzles. I seem to win that way but it always takes me till the last guess.
-
Did they give you options for the new lens? Most people opt for distance vision, but I opted for computer distance, which works really well for me. I had a Toric lens implanted, which I think cost about $4K (both eyes). They need to take measurements prior to the surgery.
-
Jane, I started taking glycine 2-3 weeks ago, one 500 mg capsule on an empty stomach 1-2 hours before bed. I saw improvement right away. My sleep quality was better and I was sleeping somewhat longer, but not long enough. I added a second 500 mg cap in the morning and my sleep improved again. It's still not quite where I'd like it -- I need to sleep longer -- but the quality is much better.
Instead of the second 500 mg in the morning you could take 1000 mg in the evening.

I tried to schedule an Uber to take me to tomorrow's ophthalmology appointment: $43!!

Thank you for the suggestion. We tried it last night. I took 1000 mg last night. It didn't make me sick which was a good start as so many things do. I can't tell if it helped or if it was a coincidence I felt relaxed about half an hour later. I slept ok but not great.

Starting to watch Nightmare Alley. The ambience is wonderful, even if the the story isn’t my favorite. Toni Collette is wonderful and looks better than I’ve ever seen her. Veronica Lake’s hairdo suits her. Bradley Cooper isn’t as beautiful as Tyrone Power, but he smolders.

The reviews for Funny Girl have largely not been kind.
-
The reviews for the new Downton Abbey film make the picture sound like it was made for fans. So what? I’m down with that.
-
Halfway into Nightmare Alley. It’s been good so far, but … and it’s a big but … the pacing is lackluster. And then some of the performances are lackluster, too. Rooney Mara is underwhelming, Cate Blanchett is almost as grotesque as the carny freaks, but maybe that’s the point.
-

Tonight I watched TILL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY. There was a daughter of the Van Heflin character, her name would have been Sally Kessler. In the final scene of the film, MGM is featuring her in their Kern musical. Was there a real singer named Sally Kessler?
-
I could look it up on Google, but we need the posts.
-
After the film was over, I saw that I also have a Remastered Version of the film. I guess it is remastered, the description says it is a fictionalized retelling of the life of composer Joseph Kern.
-
The movie lists Gower ((minus Marge) Champion as being in the film. Does anyone know if that is Gower dancing to “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”?
-
I don't think Nathan Detroit plays violin or skates, but I could be wrong.
In some productions, he barely sings.

I had a strange dream last night, that I actually remember. I went to a high school reunion being held at someone’s house in Port Orchard, which is near Bremerton, Washington.
-
I took my friend, Tracy, with me. She went to my high school (but about 8 years after me), but I can’t figure out why she would want to go.
-
Actually, I am not sure why I would want to go. We had six hundred people in my class, and even removing the ones who passed away and those who didn’t want to go,
how many people can you pack into a three bedroom tract house?
-
Anyway, it was a strange dream, and the only person I knew at the reunion was Tracy.

Hello, George.
Hi, Tom.
-
When I went home for lunch, I found a package in front of my door, which was a good thing since it was addressed to me.
-
I brought it in and found that it contained scripts to The One-Act Show That Goes Bad, which is a VERY good thing since Theater Artists Olympia in collaboration with Broadway Olympia Productions will be producing this show in August!
-
Rainbow what’s his name is on Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow night.
-
Even though there are only eight actors in the show, when you get the non-professional rights to perform the show, you are required to purchase 16, count 'em, SIXTEEN copies of the script, TWO copies of the stage manager's edition, and TWO copies of the director's book! :o
-
Rainbow what’s his name is on Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow night.
Randy Rainbow? Cool! He's great!
-
After rehearsal, I sent a message through our Slack app about the scripts arriving, and pug who will be directing the show asked if I could bring them to her tomorrow at her work, and I asked how about now since I'm out and about.
-
She said fine, so I went and visited pug and her husband and their son for a while and we all caught up and had a nice chat, then I came home.

I remember several years ago (probably less than 10, though), this guy had published a "memoir" and it got fairly good reviews, but it was found out that several incidents in his story were completely made up and the publisher issued a voluntary recall.
-
Our library sent back our copies and got a refund. I think I'd heard that other libraries kept theirs and may have re-catalogued them as fiction, but I don't specifically remember the details.

I'd read a couple. At least, they weren't horribly outright pans. :-\
