Well, you've read the notes, the notes were all TGIF, and now it is time for you to post until the TGIF cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BAKSHEESH!
-
Yesterday's pay-what-you-can performance of Mamma Mia! was canceled due to cold symptoms (NOT Covid), so hopefully it won't be canceled tonight.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Friday the 13th has never been one of my luckiest days, so I wonder: is it an unlucky day or do we make it one? We'll see.
-
I never did get to the printing I wanted to do yesterday, so we'll see how today goes.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
My; today is already flying by like a gazelle munching a Cherry Ripe.
-
We tried to start A Delicate Balance last night, but could only find it on some weird streaming network that inserts 3 or 4 minutes of ads every 9 minutes of film.
-
More vibes for MR BK!
-
Yes I was also very happy that DR singdaw escaped the tornado.
-
DR JEANNE well Birdy Barnum especially likes The Price Is Right with all the music and especially the sound the wheel makes as it spins....he will watch just about any talking head and comment back - but I don't think he has a preference yet.
-
Show goes on vibes for DR GEORGE.
-
Rehearsal last night was fine.....I am only in the last scene - it has a LOT going on....but hopefully it will be very funny.

Good morning, all.

This morning Kristi commemorated the start of Friday the 13th by breaking a favorite flower vase. Nothing too sentimental, fortunately, more an annoyance. I just paid a few ugly bills (they were very ugly, thank you), and I shall be concluding Friday the 13th by attending something called Disaster! tonight. We know how to celebrate here.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Weird work dreams. Nothing interesting enough to report.

Whoa. Thank you for the reminder, DR John G. I had an EPIC work dream. Absolutely EPIC, combining elements of two former workplaces and the people from each. It was far too involved with various scenes and references than I could ever relate to anyone, but I hope I retain it and can continue to “study” it.
-
Mine was more related to cleaning. Yawn.

Any triskaidekaphobes among us?

The morning is long already.

Good morning to everyone. I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.

Not superstititous here, but still cautious.
-
I’m also glad to hear singdaw survived the twister.
-
I have an appointment with my allergist this afternoon.
Rather looking forward to it. Afterward, if I think I can brave it, I'll trot into CostCo on a riding cart if any are available.
-
My hip/sciatica pain levels have decreased considerably, and I am hopeful for full recovery in the future.
My appointment with physical therapy is on the 20th.
-
It's a gray day in Johnston SC.
We may have thundershowers this afternoon. Am told they will be sporadic and may miss some of us while drenching others.
It is 64 degrees as I type this.
-
Very good news, DR Ron Pulliam.

I took your meaning.

Good news for some of us:
-
DR Ron Pulliam, since you liked Persuasion, I wonder if you've seen any of the BBC's productions of Emma? I like the Kate Beckinsale (1996) and Romala Garai-Jonny Lee Miller (2009)productions the best. I'm not very happy with the Gwyneth Paltrow prettified edition; it reminds me of the MGM Laurence Olivier-Greer Garson Pride and Prejudice.

I love the "Emma" film with Romola Garai, Jonny Lee Miller and Rupert Evans, with Michael Gambon as Emma's father.
I have seen the 2020 version with Anya Taylor-Joy, Johnny Flynn and Callum Turner, with Bill Nighy as Emma's father. This is a good version, but the lead actress just doesn't do the role justice. After seeing Garai as Emma, Taylor-Joy seems a bit of joke. I don't believe for a second that either of the principal young male leads would have been captivated by her.
I remember seeing and liking, but not loving, the Paltrow film.
I've not seen the Beckinsale version.

Show goes on vibes for DR GEORGE.
Thanks, Jrand!

PSITHURISM: - the sound of rustling leaves.
And wind through the trees.

DR Ron, occasionally when I get lab work done I am complimented for being well hydrated. Aside from that nothing has been said to me. I just know to drink water as it makes sense to do so, and from my own research.
-
Thank you George. I hope to make a reservation someplace for tomorrow. I really only wanted to go to this restaurant. Keith vetoed my second choice.
-
DR George:
Her feelings about refusing came from learning that some vaccines were developed from aborted fetus cells in the 1980s (and her religious beliefs are that life begins at conception), but the vaccines now have no fetus cells at all, so she was able to make the decision to get the vaccine.
The lies people have told horrible, yet people got off due to religious beliefs that were also a lie >:(

My hip/sciatica pain levels have decreased considerably, and I am hopeful for full recovery in the future.
My appointment with physical therapy is on the 20th.
Excellent news.
-
I received my test results which means I won't have to give more blood. I would like to think the results are so bad because the quality of my blood was compromised.
-
I was supposed to have ushered Sunday for Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues. Just found out it was canceled.
-
One less thing to worry about.

Saw that. Sad.
-
Okay, so what are your favorite versions of Pride and Prejudice?
I place Elmore’s disliked MGM version second to the top, after the Jennifer Erle-Colin Firth version.
I place the musical First Impressions at the bottom.
-
BTW, the new book I’m reading, The People of Bloomington, by Budi Darma, was inspired by Austen’s P&P.

I am having a nonstop day - the kind that MR BK has three or four times a week.....I do not do it as well as he.....

Okay, so what are your favorite versions of Pride and Prejudice?
I place Elmore’s disliked MGM version second to the top, after the Jennifer Erle-Colin Firth version.
I place the musical First Impressions at the bottom.
1995 BBC version with Ehle and Firth is first, followed by the 1980 BBC version with Elizabeth Garvey as my favorite Lizzie.
Third, the 2005 movie with Keira Knightley. I find the MGM film too coy, and what they did to Lady Catherine de Burgh a disgrace.
"First Impressions" is to Jane Austen what roadkill is to a living thing.
-
I just had a nonstop - uh, hour - mowing some weeds and pulling others.
The mowing achievement is only noteworthy because the linkage that activates the mower's pulling drive broke, and I had to push it around the yard the old fashioned way -- with physical effort.
And that, by God, is my exercise for the day. 8)

The Keira Knightly version suffers from horse-jawed, braying Keira Knightly.

I did like Donald Sutherland.
And thank yiu, Elmore, for correcting my spelling of Ehle.

Finding a restaurant vibes for DR JANE.
Thank you. Keith didn't like any of the options I found, not that I don't agree with him.
-
Anything Goes is supposed to be on PBS tonight.
-
I am currently reading I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys. It takes place in Romania in 1989 before Ceaușescu was outed. I wish this book had been written, and read before we visited Craig in Romania.
-
Back from my trek to Covenant Family Allergy all the way down in North Augusta off I-20.
I got a very good report and don't go back for three months..
I went to CostCo and found a riding cart. Did my business, saw stuff from a vantage point I had never done before, and bought my goodies.
The drive home was to have been quick and off the beaten path for me, but I wanted to avoid congestion in the community of Belvedere. Once you get past that exit off I-20, it's clear sailing to the exit I like. Speed limit is 70 mph.
Today, however, less than half a mile past the exit, both lanes were stopped...and for as far ahead as the eye could see. Spent the next 15 minutes or so doing about 20 mph. Couldn't see anything up ahead that would account for it...until...I saw a burned, smoking vehicle on the side of the road with workers tending it. And was that blocking the road?
No.
It was all the "looky-loos".
Disgusting.
-
I like Anything Goes.....

The 1980 BBC version has a good screenplay by Fay Weldon.

...and the show is okay, too.
-
Push mower......after my adventure last week, I am ready to have brother-in-law start the summer again with his riding mower.
-
It is amazing how much those "looky-loos" can slow down traffic. Really, a glace was probably enough to see what had happened.
-
And then there are accidents I really do not want to look at.
-
DR Ron I am glad for your good report today.

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.

Anything Goes is supposed to be on PBS tonight.

Well, shoot. Tonight's performance of Mamma Mia! has been canceled. Still negative on Covid tests, but a cold and I guess a bit of a fever for someone. :-\
-
I just had lunch with my friend David at the local Eagan's. It was quite the yummilicious lunch!

I am trying to find a restaurant tomorrow that takes reservations and has food a 13 year old would like. No luck-amazing.

Polly Bergen’s voice is lower in range than Farley Granger’s Darcy. It’s disconcerting. Heroine Gingold thinks the show’s about her. And her character songs are excruciating.

Odd, draining day at work.

Yum, except I will have to pass. My A1C score is too high.

I cannot find a reservation for brunch tomorrow anywhere. We are not about to wait in a long line either, especially if it might rain.

DR George, the only good thing about "First Impressions" is the dance music.
-
Two of our four immediately local theeders are closed for their second weekend in a row. In the meantime, I'm going to see the penultimate performance of Disaster! tonight, and possibly Death Trap at the other place before its run is over. It's shameful to admit it, but I've never seen that on stage.

This Danish movie A Taste of Hunger is really good. But I’m a little too wound up for subtitles.

Good night, all.

Finished with my viewing.

Has George made progress on the new book?

I gotta tell you.

I forgot I promised someone I'd attend a reading of a new play at ten tomorrow morning.
-
I was reminded, so I guess I have to go.

Has George made progress on the new book?
Not today. My friend David came down from Seattle and we had lunch together, and then since my show was canceled for tonight, I met him downtown and we went to an event at the Washington Center since he had an extra ticket.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
After the event at the WCPA, David and I met another friend of his who was volunteering at rock band concert at the Capitol Theater.
-
I don't know what band it was but they were loud. :P
-
Fortunately, we didn't stay too long.
-
After two or three "songs" ::) we left and went to McMenamins The Spar and had some food and chatted for a while.

We said our goodbyes and David is now heading back to Seattle, and Mark is heading to wherever he's going.

I know. He's probably the first real (platonic) "guy" friend I've had in forever.

So, what did you have to eat at Eagen’s. Their taco salad looks really good.

I'm now sitting in my car ketchuping on the posts before I head home, because I probably won't get home before BK locks today's day of posts.
-
So, what did you have to eat at Eagen’s. Their taco salad looks really good.
It's pretty good. I've had it before. I had my usual Deluxe Cheeseburger with onions added and a diet Pepsi. Always good.
-
You have to ask for onions?
-
You have to ask for onions?
Yes. They don't put them on automatically.
-
And they're chopped into little-ish chunks, like the kind Costco used to have for their hot dogs, not rings of raw onion.
-
And now, I must leave downtown and head home.
Be back a little later.

I will have to bring my own onions next time I get a hot dog at Costco.
