Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a flower, a drum, and a song, and now it is time for you to post until the flower drum song cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: UNCANNY!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a pretty good night of sleep. I remember no dreams, but I'm feeling a bit melancholic this morning, and a few more hours off sleep woulod have been nice.
-
DR TCB, the more I hear of what should have occurred in Uvalde and all that did not happen only fills me with more rage. I ewish I could drop a bomb on the NRA convention beginning today. As Sweeney Todd says in Epiphany, "They all deserve . . ."
-
I, too, love Flower Drum Song, which I saw with my mother at Middletown's Paramount Theater. To this day I have no idea why she was excited to see it, since she seemed apathetic about movie going. After seeing it, I read the original novel, although I now remember little about it. The vocal score was one of the first scores I purchased in high school, and I played the music for the bridal procession to death.
I've never minded Russell Bennett's work on the show, and I think the only Broadway show he truly bombed out on was Bells Are Ringing. On the other hand, Edward Powell's film orchestrations are really wonderful and match the film's bright colors and pizazz.
-
I saw the Broadway revival of Flower Drum Song, which I didn't dislike; I thought it was unnecessary. All I remember now aboutt it are the dancing Chinese food containers. When I talked about it to my late friend Bruce Pomahac, his comment was "just be glad they dropped the rape scene."
-
Today I will finish up my work for Joshie. I have no idea if he has more proofreadign for me or not.
-
I know that CBNS is now owned by Paramount, but I am so sick of CBS' continuous pimping of Tom Cruise's new Top Gun sequel that I wish it no good whatsoever. Every news announcer gushes overe how much they look forward to it, its cast is on all the talking head sites, and I would not be surprised to learn it's being plugged in all the prime time programming as qwell. Enough, dammit!

Good morning, all.
-
Friday. Friday??
I’m going to the theeder tonight! (Look away, TCB!) To see D*******p!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Strange dreams of becoming a journalist again and being disrespected.
-
Competition is in one week. I’m so not ready.
-
But also:
Friday. Friday??
Because I have to pack and load my equipment into the car this afternoon, or get up and do it early tomorrow morning, for Disaster! sitzprobe.
-
I’m having dinner tonight with a former boss and her husband. I haven’t seen her in a while because of the pandemic. Plus, she works in Atlanta now but still has a place here.
-
TOD
Nothing here, I’m afraid.
-
Right now I ask only for another slice of toast and
More coffee!
-
There. That’s better.
-
I have a couple of finishing touches to put into the MainStage programming this morning, then I’ll begin packing everything up and have it ready to load into the car.
-
I have a job interview this morning. I’m not expecting much to come from it, but I haven’t done one in years. Rusty about those standard questions they always ask.
-
DR Elmore — Flower Drum Song
(oh good lord, I first typed Flower Drum Dong)
was one of my early vocal scores, too, but I think in the second wave because I distinctly remember what the very first ones were. But the bridal procession music drove me crazy, too, right from when I first saw the movie. (Sadly, I never saw it on stage.) Those harmonies and the rhythmic pattern were absolutely infectious.
Now you both have me needing to re-hear the original cast recording. I must have listened to the film version much more.
-
Good luck, DR John G.!
-
At one point I began reading the C.Y. Lee novel and didn’t finish it, but I remember really enjoying it. I’m taking it off the shelf right now.

The rains poured forth about 3 in the a.m. today. I awoke wo the sounds of what seemed the heavens falling on my roof. I then promptly returned to dreamland. It is currently gray and about 70 degrees. The forecast promises some sunshine and a high of 84.
-
Is it Friday already?
-
Gosh, but May is slipping away.
-
One more for the first page.

Back to proofreading Joshie's scores. I have about 30 bars to go and I am finished.
-
I woke up early, which is good, because I want to go to work early, so I shall.
-
Friday afternoon greetings! I (in Ohio) have just had a video chat with my sister (in Michigan) and niece (in Florida). We were all sitting at our craft desks whining about how we have no cardmaking mojo.
-
From TCB:
I had a delightful lunch today with my oldest great nephew.
That is nice. Did he also visit his cat?
-
I think the interview went okay. It’s a much smaller company. And that can be good.

I am glad you were pleased with the interview.

Job interview and competition readiness vibes for DR JOHN G.
-
I love all the discussions about Flower Drum Song......I first saw it on television and of course was enamored with the entire enterprise.
Of course the charm of the film players certainly helps....but the songs are just so much fun...and it is filmed in so many clever ways...
-
DR GINNY I think being able to commiserate with others is one of my favorite things about ZOOM.
-
I have had a busy morning so I am late to the HHW party.
I am intrigued by MR BK's teases about the new releases! I could use another Ben Bagley!
-
It rained A LOT while we were at rehearsal last night.....and OLIVER! was having a full dress rehearsal so there were all kinds of folks running in and out of our rehearsal space.....
The costumes are fabulous - and haven't heard much of the singing. I shall hear some of it on Sunday at the Open House.
-
I love being in a musical! Maybe next year.
-
Too much of me on this page.

Too much of me on this page.

Since, thanks to the dermatologist, we have blisters on our faces we did not go to the gym to avoid wearing masks.
-
Keith has his Elliptical bike, which hurts my knees, so skipping the gym isn't a big deal to him.
-
Needing bananas, for Keith as I am avoiding the sugar in them, gave me a destination.
-
I did a three mile round trip to the coffee shop and came home with a couple of bananas.
-
DR GINNY I think being able to commiserate with others is one of my favorite things about ZOOM.
Yep. My mojo would be much more robust if I'd clean up my crafting desk.

So, a soundtrack is coming out for the TV movie The Ratings Game, score by David Spear BUT - as those who've seen it know, it's about a fictional TV network - and I wrote all the TV themes. When I saw the post about it, I responded, since I'm responsible for a good deal of the music in the film I do hope I'm being credited where necessary. So, the producer/label called me just now - they told me they had me credited on three pieces. I said that was interesting since I wrote about fourteen pieces. He sent me the tray card and indeed everything I wrote is being used, most being credited to David. I just sent them exactly which tracks are mine (they combine some of my stuff into one track). I'm told they'll fix it and I told them that I would prefer my credit not be in teeny-tiny type and buried somewhere, since I'm a major part of the score. I also suggested they send me the tracks, because I'm pretty sure the composer used some of my stuff within his score - I know he did in the end credits. So, may as well have all this correct and then we'll have to see if he's actually paying the mechanical royalty - they can't put out my stuff without at least asking me about that.

I'm craving a muffin, cookie, or strawberry shortcake from the Little Pie company.

So, are these the same tracks that were on your CD of rarities? Did they say if they spruced up the sound?

Today I went to the Goodwill Store to see if any dead people's relatives had turned in any good CD's.
I found the OBC of JERSEY BOYS - I don't think I have it.....
Since it is summer, I stepped over to the short sleeved pullover rack and began to peruse....and was stopped up short. There on the rack was a shirt identical to the one I was wearing.
I didn't want to be the only one to enjoy the moment, so I said hello to the employee on the other side of the rack and said: "Do you want to see something scary?"
She of course had no response except to look at me askance....so I held up the shirt next to mine....and we both had a good laugh.
I did not buy the shirt.

George we are beginning our last season of THE EXPANSE tonight. I hope we like how it ends. Oops, I guess we now have two seasons to watch.
-
I decided I need (and want) this evening at home for relaxing and getting some things done for a hell day tomorrow, and I want that more than schlepping to a theeder, so I just called them and donated my ticket to whomsoever might be able to use it.
Sometimes a good cancellation is just what the doctor ordered, don'tcha' know.

Eating dinner with a former boss. She picked an outdoor place. It’s 100 practically.

Hello, everyone.

Job vibes to John G.
Is the new company closer to your home?
Would you be able to work from home a lot?

I tried a new bodyworker today. My previous massage therapist, Katie, who I liked, is now a licensed acupuncturist and I don't think she'll be doing much massage. Time for a change. I found someone who is highly trained and has developed his own method. It wasn't painful at all, but it remains to be seen how much it helped.

A good weekend to all.

Packaging has been adjusted - I suggested one change just for clarity.

Is anyone watching THE LINCOLN LAWYER?
-
We will watch episode four tonight.

Good evening!
-
Is anyone watching THE LINCOLN LAWYER?
Yes, I started it last weekend and have to go back to it.
-
Watching "Great Performances" on PBS. Tonight's show is about "Company."

I've only watched the first season. I need to start it up again.

Job vibes to John G.
Is the new company closer to your home?
Would you be able to work from home a lot?
The new place is based in New York. It's 99% remote. So, I could work from Greece.
-
Back from dinner. It was outdoors, but the food was good.
-
The entertainment, however, was spectacular. There was a hawk in a nearby tree.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Four!
-
I finally finished Licorice Pizza. Great cast, some pretty good writing and some really erratic directing. Needed to lose about 15 minutes.
-
Now watching Howard Duff as an ethically challenged photographer in a noir called Shakedown. I always liked Duff.
-
I don't think I can finish it tonight, though.
-
I'm beginning to fade.
-
Good night, all.

From TCB:
I had a delightful lunch today with my oldest great nephew.
That is nice. Did he also visit his cat?
No ma’am, the cat belonged to the younger great nephew, Xav. This lunch was with Elijah, the older one.

DR TCB, the more I hear of what should have occurred in Uvalde and all that did not happen only fills me with more rage. I ewish I could drop a bomb on the NRA convention beginning today. As Sweeney Todd says in Epiphany, "They all deserve . . ."
You are correct, good sir, but I am not sure if my anger is an improvement over heartbreak.

Well, hopefully we'll have some postings in the next forty minutes or there will be ire.

Oh, yes, there will be ire.

George we are beginning our last season of THE EXPANSE tonight. I hope we like how it ends. Oops, I guess we now have two seasons to watch.
The only time I watch THE EXPANSE is when I am lounging on my bed and happen to look down at my stomach.

The entertainment, however, was spectacular. There was a hawk in a nearby tree.
Hmmm, was there a cover charge?

I'm home.

Hi, Tom.

I won the first game! :D

No, only 34 seconds.

Listening to The Saint of Bleeker Street.
At first I thought you wrote The Saint of Baker Street, and wondered if it was a sequel to the musical, Baker Street.

Come along, George, get posting.

I have this vague memory of a song with the word "ire" in it, but I can't remember what it might be.

I think it would be great to go see the Seattle Rep’s new musical, BRUCE. It is the story of the filming of JAWS, and of Bruce, the mechanical shark used in the film.

Lore Noto was the Saint of Sullivan Street.

I can't believe some idiot has made a musical about me, but...
