TCB, you guys got home fast! I do hope no speeding laws were broken.
And I do hope George found his way out! I had no clue where the northbound I-5 exit was as I always head south from Portland...I think I steared him in the correct direction!
And the word of the day is: UNCTIOUS!Well, unctious jes' the cutest lil' ol' thing I ever laid my eyes on???!!!
My guess: The schoolhouse in The Birds.
As has already been reported, last night's Portland get together was a thoroughly fun time. Wonderful to finally meet MBarnum, George (whose fudge is indeed as yummilicious as we've been told), JMK, and BK in person. Loads of laughs all around the room.
Ann good luck at work. I hope to meet you next time I'm in Portland.
The photo of Deborah Kerr looks like the moths got to her wardrobe.
:o
OH!
I got a report from yesterday's first day of auditions for the upcoming revival of A Chorus Line in New York City.
MAD HOUSE!
Lots of people. Lots of press. Even HBO was filming!
Ah, to be a fly on the wall! -If there was room on the wall!
*I'm just trying to imagine what else is in store along the way. They're not even supposed to go into rehearsal until NEXT year at this time!
"American Idol" producer Fremantle Media, meanwhile, has reportedly licensed the show's popular name for an Internet radio station that will be called American Idol Underground and will be launched this fall.[/size]
For a $50 fee, anybody will be able to upload their music to the site, where it will receive at least 200 plays. Online users will be able to sample the music and rate it. According to Billboard, the top-rated tracks will be judged every six months by a panel of celebrity judges (all to be determined), who will pick the best tracks in a variety of genres.
I'll bet the most sought after role is the guy who can't dance a lick in the opening scene. That's the one I would go for.
;)
That's actually a very hard role to cast! The dancer/actor really needs to "know" how to dance badly while NOT breaking or pulling anything. *And keep in mind, EVERYONE still has to do the initial combination right, so...
Again!
That picture of BK and JMK looks very similar to the back table at Joe Allen's where the East Coasters gather when there is a big crowd. Are you sure you didn't teleport yourselves here to the center of the world after that reading?Joe Allen's has a branch in Pellucidar?
Of course, there are no posters on the wall from flop Broadway (and out of town) musicals but nevertheless, you could have changed the decor to try and fool us.
Deborah Kerr was, for many years, my favorite actress. Of course, she had to share that honor on occasion with Susan Hayward. It all depended on who had the most recent movie showing on NBC's "Saturday Night At the Movies" back in the golden days of the early 1960s.
Saturday Night at the Movies. Wow, Ron, what memories that brings back to me. It was SNAM (I like it) that first introduced me to TITANIC; an experience that started me on a life-long quest and obsession that would eventually lead me (many years later) to the site of that ship's watery grave.
You are correct, DR MS! This is the schoolhouse used in the movie that actually exists in Bodega, CA. At the time I visited the joint, it was a bed and breakfast, though the last I heard it was a private home. Suzanne Pleshette's house next door was built for the movie and immediately removed afterwards. And those kids who ran from the bird attack must have been fast on their feet--the schoolhouse is actually about five miles away from downtown Bodega Bay.Most of the running was done in front of a blue screen. The eldest daughter of our neighbors was one of the lassies who ran and ran and ran; all three of our neighbor's kids got out of school on occasion to work as extras. But she didn't have to sing that wretched song.
The diner still exists, too. We had a wonderful brunch there. For some reason I didn't take any pictures of it.Fried chicken?
"...And Jed says he doesn't take kindly to people calling his girlfriend rude."
So said Ann in the post to which Jane refers. So Ann just slipped it in there right under our noses! Sweet romance!
I vividly recall seeing "Titanic" on SNAM...and rushing to my school's library the next Monday where I discovered, to my delight, Walter Lord's vivid "A Night to Remember."
Jennifer check out Ann’s post on June 15th at 11:09:57 PM

Today is the Winter Solstice, which means it is the shortest day in the year. For Tomovoz and OzDerek, at least.
For the rest of us, we must languish in our Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year.
What a difference a hemisphere makes!
I always wondered--what's the widest day of the year? Here in the United States, Thanksgiving.
GReetings all. I am back. I meant to post something before I left for my trip, but I plum forgot.
In case anyone was curious, Bermuda is still the most beautiful place on earth.
Congrats to DR RLP on his sparkling prize AND all those who correctly solved the trivia question. I got stuck - and kept looking at the wrong years....no wonder!
Stuart welcome back. I'm happy you had a good time.
Yes, Stuart, welcome back!
What did you bring us???????
Great pic, DR George. I like the Hawaiian shirt theme.
Photo's? :)

I vaguely recall seeing part of that flick that Miss "Rhymes with Star" made with Jean Simmons....Brian Keith? Jim Garner? Someone like that....
At any rate, never saw all of it, but I recall liking what I saw.....
Could that be the comedy THE GRASS IS GREENER with Robert Mitchum, Cary Grant, Jean Simmons and Deborah Kerr? I saw it about 100 years ago and remember nothing about it.
I have not listened to the CD 5 times in a row.
And one for Ron Raines! (I'm pretty sure he's DR elmore's close and personal friend) ;D
And I, too, was devastated to read in 1967 that she wasn't going to be concentrating on making films any more. After those two stunning performances in TWO FOR THE ROAD and WAIT UNTIL DARK, she must have been offered the moon to do films in the late 60s and early 70s. However, that IS just about the time that women's roles started drying up and many great actresses were having a hard time finding worthwhile roles to play.
I would love to have asked her what films she was offered that she turned down in the years between WAIT UNTIL DARK and ROBIN AND MARIAN.
Before I go "out there" for 4 hours of information waitressing, I'd like to mention Audrey Hepburn's The Nun's Story. It was one of my favorite movies when I was in junior high. The first movie tie-in book I remember purchasing and reading. Haven't seen very many Deborah Kerr movies.
Jose will your car be moving to NY with you?
I can definitely tell it's getting old, and I've been trying to be as good an owner/driver as I can be right now. I also have the sense that if I were to put it in the shop for any sort-of needed repairs, I might as well buy a new car.
;)
You wouldn't believe how weird people get in a downtown public library when a full moon coincides with the Summer Solstice ::)
Very rare for snow near where I live Danise - despite being in the hills. Today's maximum temperature is supposed to be about 55 degrees F. (13 degrees C).
At the moment it is 9.30am approx and the the temperature is about 40 degrees F.
Thanks also to DR Laura.
BTW: DR Danise - François is not on the board for another two days.
I shall pass on all good vibes to OzDerek. He is back at work today after yesterday's explorative work! (Results next monday).
There was an interesting wrong answer to the last question in the quiz that involved a star of a show that season who created a role that was played in the movie by another actress who was in another play that year. The Trip To Bountiful opened with Lillian Gish in the lead. Earlier in the year, Geraldine Page made her Broadway debute in a play called Mid-Summer. But it opened in the previous season, and thus didn't qualify as a correct answer. Also, I guess it's debatable whether Miss Page became a beloved movie star or not.
Jose, Anthony told me that Nick will be doing The Full Monty after Forum. He didn't say which role Nick will be playing, just that he has another job. Great for Nick. A week from Friday I will be down there for the Fourth of July weekend. I'll see the show on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon and then we have the rest of the time free until I come back to NYC on Monday afternoon.
That's it for now. I'm making some Cranberry Apple Herbal Iced Tea so while it steeps I think I will head out and celebrate the solstice.
Bye!

Oh, my golly DearReaderLaura, that is way hot!
While I won't refute the possibility of your having seen something 100 years ago, I will say that "The Grass is Greener" was considerably later than that...1960, I believe.
And you don't remember much because it didn't offer much to remember. Grant and Kerr were married and landed gentry and all that sort of thing, dontchaknow...Jean Simmons was wasted as friend of the family, and Robert Mitchum, bless his heart, was only marginally convincing (to me) as a possible lover for Kerr (the same Kerr I had adored as Mrs. Anna and Sister Angela and Terry McKay, the cabaret singer who was crippled because she was "looking up..."). I just couldn't imagine her preferring Mitchum over Grant.
The worst part about it, though, is that this was a Stanley Donen film. I can only imagine he did it to satisfy the terms of some contractual agreement.
By the way, for those of you for whom it may not be too late, I have heard recently that people who drink daily portions of fruit juice are less likely to get Alzheimer's than those who don't.
I don't remember where I heard it, of course, but take it for what it's worth.
I am listening to my new favorite singer...DR Elmore3003's best friend Ron Raines' CD BROADWAY PASSION.
What a wonderful baritone voice this man has...reminds me very much of Howard Keel.
I have now listened to the CD 5 times in a row.
Yes, the word is indeed out, and Ann and I deny nothing! Haven't been able to for awhile. :D (...of course, some things we haven't been able to deny for even longer... ;))
I also like The Nun's Story. I think I told you that when I was a very little girl I wanted to be a Nun when I grew up. I didn't understand what it meant. I just liked the outfit. I still think the habit and veil are kinda neat.
One very happy re-discovery was noticing that Mothers Macaroons had reopened! What a great bakery, and great macaroons, what else?!?!? Lots of different flavors, plus other baked goods (cookies, cakes, pastries, etc.). The last time I had driven by, I had notice that another business had taken it's place... Ah, well. But when I headed in today, I asked the clerk if the store had closed down for a while. She that they owner did close up shop for a while to take care of some family business, but she reopened a couple of months ago. :)
*When I worked at Foxes Music, instead of bringing in donuts on Saturday mornings, we would bring in Mothers Macaroons. And it was a shock to see it had closed up since I've always thought the place was very buy and doing great business. Very nice to see she's back.
-Alas, I did not buy any macaroons today, but the week is still young.
:)
Do they have almond macaroons? I never see them anymore. :'(
First time I saw a nun I started crying she was a witch and didn't want to get on the bus with her. ;D Fortunately for all nuns she was very, very nice about it and won me over. Hey what did a little Jewish girl know about nuns anyway. I did after that and was full of questions.
In the Lisa Hartman series. Adam is now the older brother and is a mortal. Playing the Darrin mode which doesn't really work. I think BK being the younger brother and being a warlock worked better.
Why would they even do it this way? How could they think that anyone would accept that Adam is older? Did they try to explain it? I remember the series with Lisa Hartman and that Bernard Fox was on it, but I don't remember the details. :-\
Yes, they do. One of my favorites! Or are you looking for the macaroons that are made with ground almonds as opposed to shredded coconut?
The macaroons at Mothers Macaroon are all the coconut kind. Plain, Chocolate Dipped, Almond, Chocolate Dipped Almond, Orange, Chocolate Dipped Orange, Pineapple, Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate Dipped...
If you're speaking of the Almond Macaroons, the Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe I mentioned earlier makes wonderful ones. A little larger than a quarter in size - such a wonderful taste in a bite-size cookie. They also make macaroons with ground hazelnuts. Very good too.
-Shall I send you some?
:)

"Would a convent take a Jewish girl?"
Hey, even at that age I wasn't about to go where boys weren't permitted.
Here is Adair Chappell and Bruce Blanchard doing a number from SOMETHING BIG...SOMETHING BACHARACH
(note how cute Bruce Blanchard is...if you are in to that sort of thing!)
Dan (the Man) I believe boy crazy is when one is obsessed with boys. I was not obsessed, but boy or boy did I like them. I can’t remember not liking boys. :)
Only send hazelnut ones if you want me to stop breathing. ;D
Almond macaroons, no coconut at all! Oh my God I will be in food heaven. :D :D :D
May I just say that these photos of me are horrendous (I'm talking about the now ones). I am NOT that fat. I am NOT that fat. I've been losing. Those cameras are adding ten more pounds than I've already got on me. Well, I'm telling you, twelve weeks from now I will weigh twenty to twenty-five pounds less, and then I'll take a break, and then I'll lose an additional ten.
As Minnie Kritzer would say..."The proof is in the pudding!"
And tuck your shirt in!!!
When you "hide" the waist, it actually makes your waist "longer" consequently bigger. When you see a waistline/belt/etc. helps to "divide" the person. Otherwise, it's just one big mass.
-I'm not saying you're one big mass, BK. -Just stuff I've been reading in clothing magazines.
;)

Jose I think So-LOL.
Now I have gone to the website I think I can order them. I say I think because there is something about UPS and an extra charge if they aren't at the bakery. Where else would the goods be?

Has anyone been to a Tommy Bahama's clothing store? I went prior to BK's reading yesterday and wow...they make the most beautiful men's shirts I have ever seen in my life...very retro!! But very, very expensive...I am not about to spend $115 for a shirt! No way, no how....well, unless I was rich.
Well, Bruce Blanchard may be your idea of a dreamboat, but he left a 10 inch gash in my hardwood floors today when he moved my couch without asking. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRl >:(

Oh, and they had full size raspberry linzer tortes.... and almond Bundt cakes (1/2s and wholes)... Coconut Bundt cakes....
-I guess now is not a good time to tell you about Pastries By Randolph...
OOPS!!!
;)
When I was younger, I wanted to change my name to Solstice, so that one day a year I could brag that I was the longest!
I'm very tired, but will try to do a little more work here in the Business Center (trying to give the kritzerland site the final once-over. The only pesky detail that I have to attend to when I return is the shipping costs. The way UPS has restructured their prices, unless you ship regularly and in real bulk it costs nine bucks to ship one cd to New York. That is just nuts and one can only hope that UPS goes down the toilet with those prices. Fed Ex ground is cheaper, if you can believe it, and considerably so, just over six bucks. I think I'm going to settle at a five dollar shipping and handling charge for up to two CDs - and then an additional buck for each CD above that, with a cap at five CDs (in other words, they would never have to spend more than eight dollars no matter how many they ordered).
Well... And six months later you could say you were the shortest!
;D
I would leave such talk to ex-boyfriends!
