Well, you've read the notes, the notes celebrated July fourth, Independence Day, and now it is time for you to post until the July fourth cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EGALITARIAN!
-
Topic of the Day: Dick Tracy with Warren Beatty, the first two original Superman movies with Christopher Reeve, the first Superman reboot with Henry Cavill, the first Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot, and the first Men in Black were all really good.
I've liked most of the Marvel movies that I've seen, so I won't list all the specific titles because there are so many. I haven't seen many of the DC comic movies since the first X-Men movies.
Otherwise, I do remember seeing Barbarella years ago, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was pretty funny.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well, but I had a dream about a friend of mine and DR Ginny who died in 2018. It was a strange dream in which my friend was trying to find her sister who had been missing for a week and getting the runaround from the Oxford, Ohio police dept. Thinking of her this morning, I'm rather melancholic.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
The pie looks great.
-
I spy with my little eye... something that is pie.
-
Someone was telling me about a light show that was constructed from programmed drones, to take the place of fireworks in drought-stricken areas.
I imagine it might still make a noise, but a different form of noise from the pop pop pop.
-
My father in law (gone now) hated fireworks. He said folks might as well just burn up their money outright. :P
-
Maybe it's the day as well. July 4 was always a big holiday when I was a kid, I think there might have been a parade in rthe morning - or was that Memorial Day? then all of my mother's siblings living in the area had a large gathering at my Aunt Jean's home in Hamilton, Ohio, withtons of food. I always looked forwartd to the grilled brats, since it was thev only time in the year I encountrered them. My mother always made great potato salad and baked beans, my Aunt Dorothy made macaroni salad and pimento cheese spread, which I have never liked. Of all those many cousins, aunts and uncles, only my brothers and I and my cousins Sue Ellen, Jeanne, and Jennifer survive.
That usually ended around 6:00, and by the time we got home and unloaded the car, it was time to get to Barnitz Field for the fireworks.
-
There has curiously been very little evidence this year of firecrackers. In the past, the racket began around July 2 and built to a frenzy on the fourth.
-
This morning I will definitely do laundry. Depending on how well my legs hold upo, I may vacuum; itt's hell pushing that Hoover around while juggling my balance with the vacuum cord and a cane.

DR vixmom, I am so unused to seeing you in glasses, I thought we had a new DR this morning. I remain jealous of your energy, humbled by your kindness and humanity, and blessed with your friendship.

Thank you for the extremely kind words! But I am most confused about your comments on my glasses, perhaps they’re so much if my face that you’ve never noticed them, but I am virtually blind without them, I’ve been wearing them continuously since I was 9, I’ve had bifocals since 10
-
Yesterday night there were a few pyrotechnic displays about the neighborhood, but thankfully few of the loud banging ones
-
We’ll see what happens today
-
Woke up sneezing with a sore throat
-
Really hoping it’s allergies and that I wasn’t unknowingly harboring an illness when visiting with Bill and my brother
-
Singsong, I never did tell the IKEA story, did I?
-
The local IKEA has been woefully low stocked for over a year
-
In fact, we were harboring suspicions that it was closing since so many shelves were empty
-
We wanted to get a narrow bookcase to put into the room which is being redone since the ceiling fell in last February and could not find one anywhere
-
Vixdad saw the perfect one on the IKEA website but it was always out if stock locally and not available for shipping
-
Finally, after a few months of checking it showed up in the website as “in stock” at our local IKEA
-
I say local, but I think it’s actually the only one in Long Island…
-
Well actually there is one in Brooklyn, which is physically ON Long Island, although in the hearts and minds of those who live here, Brooklyn and Queens are not only officially part of the boroughs that comprises New York City but somehow magically not part of Long Island despite sharing the same land mass as Nassau and Suffolk counties (AKA lawn guy land)
-
See?
-
;)
-
Maybe this is clearer

There was a July 4 parade! This photo is from the July 4, 1976 parade, in which I worked on the Campus-Community Players float. Here I am - with hair, my Candide T-shirt, and macrame belt - between my friends, local radio host Geri Hart and float villain Ritch Stoops. I had more photos but I cannot find them! Our DR Ginny made a lovely heroine for the float.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy Fourth of July!
-
Good morning, all.
-
One of the neighboring communities did a long fireworks show last night, probably on Candlewood Lake. We couldn't see them over the treetops, but we heard every rumble and bang for an hour.
-
Kristi and Nathan love their legal store-bought fireworks, and we'll have our own display of those in the driveway this evening.
-
We'll have 1776 on at some point. That's a solid tradition. So is The Music Man, but the former has taken precedence in recent years.
-
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first John Wick movie. Also loved the second. Have yet to see the third. The fourth is coming.
-
“it’s Christmas! We going to Applebee’s.”
-
Great line from John Wick 2.
-
Great photos DR ELMORE!

Independence Day greetings! We enjoyed a lovely fireworks show last night from the comfort of Rob and Mary Linda’s driveway.
-
DR Elmore, thanks for posting those parade photos. It was fun, but s-o-o-o hot!
PS - check your email…
-
I just mowed the yard around the house. It was time, anyway, and now it'll be more pleasant to sit out there.
-
I've accomplished much but I have yet to begin the l;aundry. Playing with the computer, I managed to adjkust the tone of DR Ginny's 1976 float costume, which I designed and built. I'm very proud of it.
-
Great photographic evidence, DR Elmore!
DR Ginny, it's ALWAYS too hot for me. Any such summer activity thing. As fun as they are otherwise. Certainly when it's "exceptionally" hot that day, but usually any bright sunny day during summer will have me basting in my own juices.
-
Nice review, DR Jrand71!
-
Loved the photos of DR elmore3003 and DR Ginny!

And one to grow on.

Elmore, you sew?! I’ve always wanted to wear a dress like this Ginny, I’m quite jealous
Although I did March in a Memorial Day parade in a hoop skirt one year.
It was back in 1977 and I don’t know that any pictures were ever taken

I was never a great sewer, but spending two years in a theatre costume shop as a grad assistant for a career as a stage designer made me well-acquainted with a sturdy Singer. I would never consider myself good enough for a career in haute couture.

Well, it does improve your posture, and that's about its only benefit.

Tonight is a run through of CLUE:ONSTAGE......and I will finally be able to watch the entire show.
-
We'll have 1776 on at some point. That's a solid tradition. So is The Music Man, but the former has taken precedence in recent years.
We also like to watch Independence Day. One year Richard, Rob, and I went to Dayton’s historic Victoria Theatre for a screening of Yankee Doodle Dandy, complete with free popcorn and a pre-show recital on the Mighty Wurlitzer.

Feel better vibes for DR VIXMOM.

Good to hear from DR JANE yesterday.

Very nice, Larry!

Darn. The local parade started at 11:00 and isn't expected to end until 12:30 or so, so I won't be able to escape the condo complex and go to my mom's until then.
-
The parade route travels right in front of the only entrance/exit to our place, so unless it's an absolute emergency, no one can leave or get near the place.
-
Watching the rest of Disturbia. It's actually fairly decent as far as thrills goes.
-
Wordle in 5, Phoodle in 2.

New tvs are nice.
-
Will be leaving soon to attend yet another cookout. It rained hard here this morning, but at the moment the sun looks like it will poke through.
-
Watched the new(ish) Downton Abbey movie. It was decent enough. Due to plotting, I almost expected Lina Lamont to make an appearance.
-
I had to correct a couple of words in the review.....the corrections will eventually show up, I'm sure.....
a his for he and a to for a the.

Off to rehearsal in a bit.
-
Here we go again! At least six dead, another two dozen wounded at a Illinois Fourth of July Parade.
-
I guess you can't get any more American than that.
-
I’m doctoring myself with zicam nose swabs, zicam dissolving tablets and hot black tea with honey
I believe we now call that African-American tea.
-
I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of sleep again.

Lovely review from Jrand. His reviews always want to make me read the book - then I remember I already have.
-
I'm finally settling down for the day. The cats got their evening treat, and I had a fantastic dinner from El Mitote, courtesy of Ann and Jen for holding their mail, I got three chicken enchiladas, rice, black beans, and chips & guacamole.

Back from picking up the small pepperoni Marco's Pizza and a donut from K's next door.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Someone was telling me about a light show that was constructed from programmed drones, to take the place of fireworks in drought-stricken areas.
I imagine it might still make a noise, but a different form of noise from the pop pop pop.
I like the idea.

There has curiously been very little evidence this year of firecrackers. In the past, the racket began around July 2 and built to a frenzy on the fourth.
It's been unusually quiet here, too. Too expensive, given gas prices?

Is this the same as you've been buying lately and like so much? (The pizza, not the donut.)

I did laundry this morning, then reviewed my checking account. Now I'm off for the day.

The new season of BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES is now streaming on Acorn TV. I have a couple series I want to finish, then will start BROKENWOOD.
-
I caught a few minutes of Biden's speech today. I was quite impressed by it. I don't usually listen to presidential speeches, but I felt this was a really good one. I realize that he has professional speech writers, but he sounded like he meant it all.
-
I was at Trader Joe's the other day and bought some of their ice cream sandwiches. It's dairy ice cream, which I usually avoid, but these are so good! There's only one left in the box, which I'll eat, then I must use more discipline, as my allergies are letting me know.
-
Last night I watched THE COURIER, with Bennie Cumberbatch and Mrs Maisel. It was quite good. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
-
I've been doing a slow cull, getting rid of stuff I don't need. I've been at it for a month or more and continue to find things in areas I thought I'd cleared. I hope to put a couple days aside soon for the difficult areas. Books are always hardest to get rid of. I already have many set aside for the library and Goodwill.
-
TTFN.
-
Yes, Jeanne, same pizza.
-
Pizza was good, did some cheery cheerleading, and now will watch something.

My brother Randy just called me. Apparently the City of Middletown has kiboshed the property sale. There will be no closing on Friday. I am a dead man.

How can the city kibosh a private property sale???
-
How can the city kibosh a private property sale???
After 2007 the farmland around the new hospital was rezoned and annexed by the City to glorify its new hospital. The land next to ours will be the new fire station. The city kiboshed the last sale because the buyer wanted a parking lot for commercial freight trucks and that's too plebian for the city's concept of this "jewel box" of theirs.
I have two asshole brothers who as the majority vote did nothing smart for too long: didn't want a realtor and were too incompetent to sell it themselves. They refused to do anything I suggested, then the 2008 recession killed any sales opportunity for several years, then they kept overpricing the property when they got a realtor.
-
I will know more tomorrow, but this is the last straw if the sale is indeed dead. Perhaps the closing is just in limbo. I will see what I can learn tomorrow. If it's dead, so am I.
-
I am so sorry, Elmore.
-
Went to a nice Fourth of July party. We had shish kebabs, baked beans, creamed corn, asparagus and schnitzel. I guess the baked beans were American.
My pie was one of the desserts. The other was devil's food cake with cream cheese frosting.
-
The pie is all gone. It went over well.
-
Now watching Jabberwocky, which I've never seen.
-
It's a little early for the fireworks.
-
That's a bummer DR ELMORE!
-
LOL MR BK - I hope others feel the same......
-
DR elmore3003.... I am so very sorry. Hoping against hope that all is not lost.

Oh my God! I can’t believe it. Larry, I am so sorry.
-
Today, I went to my mom's and played Phase 10 with the ladies.
-
Another friend of my mom's, Sonia, played too, but she didn't have much experience playing cards of any kind, so Dee "helped" her. ::)
-
Dee tends to be kind of controlling and bombastic.
-
And a bit judgmental.
-
I'm sure that she thinks she means well, but she didn't give Sonia much of a chance to do things and think through things on her own as she was learning the game.
-
A couple of times we said to Sonia that if she just wanted to watch and chat with us (and eat ;) ) that she didn't have to play, but she stuck it out to the end of the game...which Dee happened to win...which was fine.
-
Then my mom said (after Dee left) that if Sonia wanted, she could come over to be taught by just her and Mona, who is also a very easy going card player.
-

Well, I need to get some sleep now. It's back to work in the morning.
Hopefully, we'll all have a good tomorrow!
