Title: NOTES BY OSMOSIS
Post by: bk on June 28, 2005, 12:03:03 AM
Well, you've read the notes, either by eye or by osmosis, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're traveling by osmosis, so who knows when they'll get here.

And the word of the day is: PETUNIA!

What a bunch of WUSSBURGERS we've got around here.  Too many WUSSBURGERS during June.  Let's stop this silly WUSSBURGERING and send the month off in high style (mini-skirt and go-go boots).

PETUNIA, baby, PETUNIA!

I love tripe...and I love menudo!!

And I have tried chicken's feet...not much meat on them, but fairly tasty.

Well this is a true story. I joined my father once to have dim sum at a restaurant owned by father's friend. He joined us for lunch. When the tray with chicken feet came around, my father asked if he ever ate them. His reply was: "Are you nuts! Don't you know that chickens walk around in sh*t all day!"

Never wanted to try them after that!

Good morning, all!  It's another muggy day; there seems to be precipitation going on, but I don't have to leave the apartment today for anything major:  I'm packing for DC, working on THE GOLDEN APPLE and DARLING OF THE DAY, and that's about it.  I will be E&T the next three days, and I will not take any bitch-slapping from anyone when I get back.

TOD:  Like my Dear Friend BK, I am partial to roses, but as a chld I was fascinated by snapdragons, and I've always wanted to see a jack-in-the-pulpit, which seems a most peculiar type of flora.  One of the gentlemen at The Rodgers & Hammerstein annex grows Venus fly-traps, a very interesting plant.

DRTomovoz, two more rose songs for you:

I just saw this

Chris Hoch, Jessica Burrows, Rena Strober and Tony Award winner Anthony Crivello will star in the upcoming La Jolla Playhouse musical adaptation of the Russian-set love story Zhivago.

Hinky Meltz and Ernest Ernest already wrote songs for a musical adaptation back in the 60's.

Here is the title song lyrics.

DR. ZHIVAGO Music by Hinky Meltz Lyrics by Ernest Ernest

He was Dr. Zhivago!
He was Russian.
He was rushin’ here and rushin’ there
And rushin’ everywhere.

He had a wife and a girlfriend
He was busy.
All his patients kept saying
Where on earth is he?
Did he go to Chicago?
Where is Dr. Zhivago?

Where he lived it was snowing
And the cold wind was blowing
Still he dressed in high fashion
And he loved with a passion
And his patients were patient
For their Dr. Zhivago
And their Dr. Zhivago
Was a helluva guy.

I try to forget Anita Bryant and her paper roses. (and Marie Osmond too).

My "Songs Of New York" set says that "Second Hand Rose" was  asequel to "Rose of Washington Square". (maybe the other way around).

Teresa Brewer has another song titled "Second Hand Rose" in 1963.

A friend just sent me a spoiler sheet on THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, which you know features psychiatric expert Tom Cruise:

“Rosebud” is their spaceship.

The aliens are pissed off because they went to Paris to buy a Hermès bag and weren't allowed entry.

Dakota Fanning is actually Tom Cruise’s daughter AND his sister.

Tom Cruise doesn’t know that the whole thing is taking place on another planet, and he and his children are really the aliens.  And they’re all dead.

The hot female alien Tom’s been flirting with is actually a male.

The aliens are living in the present day!

The aliens who call Dakota are actually using the extension in the upstairs bedroom.

The tall alien in the black mask reveals to Tom that he is really his father.

Tom Cruise is only in the first 20 minutes, which is in black-and-white.  Then the aliens kill him while he’s taking a shower, and the whole movie switches to color.

At the end of the movie Tom wakes up.  The woman next to him in bed rolls over and it’s Nicole Kidman, who tells him to go back to sleep, it was all a dream.

The aliens are really a metaphor for psychiatrists who prescribe Paxil.

It’s a cookbook!

DRTomovoz, I loathe the detestable Anita Bryant, who now must be the patron saint of the religious right, but I always loved the song, which seems to have been "borrowed" from Vivian Ellis' "This Is My Lovely Day" from BLESS THE BRIDE.

Is that "Songs of New York" set the one I did with John McGlinn, an artiste of whom I could say many things?

TOD:  My favorite flower happenes to tie into the word of the day, namely petunias.  They're on the common side, but I love them for their sheer gaudiness.  I always plant a huge bed of them in the Garden of the House of Mom every year, mixing varieties and colors into the very defination of fantasia.

I do not like those "spreading" petunias.  They tend to go leggy pretty fast and, flower-wise, you don't get the same bang for your buck as you do with individual plants.  I also do not like having to deadhead petunias (or any other flower, for that matter.)

Yesterday we found a new soap dish (hey, not as easy a thing to do as one might expect) and an artificial flower decoration to sit on the back of the toilet, along with the Kleenex box.
Jane, dear, you may not need a Kleenex box as much as you think.   Very few people are allergic to artificial flowers.

Speaking of Anita Bryant (if we must), the very first issue of THE ADVOCATE that I ever read had HER on the cover, naturally featured after her homophobic efforts to have rescended the Dade County law against discrimination based on sexual orientation. I have never forgotten that issue, and I've been anti-Bryant ever since. Anything bad that happened to her afterward (and she has had some terrible jolts in life and career) she brought on herself.

As for flowers...

Roses are indeed very nice.  All colors, all, types, all sizes.  And sometimes a single rose can truly say much more than a bouquet of them.

A friend of mine in Richmond works for the Department of Motor Vehicles, and he's the guy in charge of some of the landscaping and beautification of the roadways - or at least the grassy medians.  He has really done some nice work which I see frequently during my drives.  I'd have to say my favorite "displays" are the stretches of wildflowers - so colorful, and so "gentle".

And the big tulip gardens that dot the landscape around the Mall in downtown are quite spectacular when in full bloom and color.

Favorite Flower:  Iris.  (Purple ones, not white.)  Favorite Flowering Plant:  Fuchsia, of which I am now the proud owner of two.  I have always dreamt of having fuschia hanging outside my home, and for the first time ever, the Dear Partner and I bought two pots this past weekend at the Rochester Public Market (MUCH larger and MUCH more impressive than I ever would have imagined....don't know why it took us nearly 3 years -- more, in John's case, as he grew up in Rochester -- to go there).

DR Elmoore, our garden was obviously planted by a plant lover.....there are more things out there that we dont have a clew about.  However, one of the things that was identified for us is a mature Jack-in-the-Pulpit (aka Bishop in the pulpit or, in our house, Rabbi in the pulpit.).  Larger foliage creates the roof of his congregation, while a solitary "stamen" (it's not a stamen, but another, more "erect" piece of foliage) stands underneath the awning of leaves.  It is quite lovely, though the Jack/Bishop/Rabbi does eventually whither.  We'd be glad to show you the next time you are in town while it is in bloom.

We also have allium, poppies, roses (Oy!  still don't know how to tend them!), day lilies, star lilies, columbine, peonies (various shapes & colors), globe thistle, lamb's ear, anemones, black eyed susans, etc. etc.

Oh yes!  And daffodils, tulips and irises!

On my modest balcony, I have some pink geraniums, a white "star lilac", a creamy "Angel's Trumpet", some grape hyacinths, yellow Dutch iris, some blood-red tulips, and a pinkish-blue geranium.

Oh, yes...and a cheerful pot of white petunias.

Of course, everything is seasonal and not at bloom at the same time (drat it!).

For those of you in New York the sale at Footlight progresses. It's still 75% off all vinyl records. Added to the mix is cassettes and CDs. I'm up, I'm up.  After the horrid coughing jag that kept me awake until 1:30, I finally fell asleep and slept through the night, which was heavenly.  I have the uaual morning congestion, but feel I'm on the mend at last.

Does no one here know a good class action lawsuit lawyer who'd like to take on eBay?  I mean, that company is RIPE for the pickings.  Yesterday, I received a notice on an auction I'd bid on and lost.  It was a second chance offer.  I wrote back and said, yes, I'd like to get the item.  Now, I knew it was a scam letter because it happened once before.  But, I like to bait the crooks.  I then forwarded the letter to spoof@ebay.com, who sent me their usual form letter saying they'd look into it.  I then wrote the actual seller and asked him to confirm that the second chance offer was, in fact, bogus.  I then got a second second chance offer from someone else.  I told HIM I was interested.  I forwarded it to eBay.  I then heard from the actual seller who did indeed confirm that they were bogus.  I then got an e-mail from eBay, their standard "yes, that was a fake" e-mail.  Not even addressing the problems.  Now, MY problem with this is this: They have two fraudulent second chance offers which were sent from WORKING e-mail addresses.  They should have a team in place that could go along with these people, so that they could track down where these things were coming from and who was involved.  But, they do nothing but, as James Thurber wrote, File and Forget.  I'm telling you, if any of you know a good pro bono lawyer who'd like to make a name for themselves, eBay is ready to be nailed to the wall.

My primary dead end involved Uta Hagen and The Country Wife.  Grace Kelly was uncurteous enough to have her Broadway appearance close months before hand.  Fortunately, Uta eventually led me to the correct path.

I went there, briefly....still, I wanted Grace Metalious more than ANYthing to have had a play on Broadway in the same season as Death of A Salesman.

Visine-A, specially formulated for eye allergy relief.

Which sounds strange, but that's how they've written it on the bottle.  It sounds like it's for people who are allergic to eyes.   :-\

Dan-the-Man, were you here in NYC this past weekend to see Spamalot? If so, what did you think?

I had a terrific time at Spamalot.  Even with being overly familiar with Monty Python and with the cast recording, I laughed my buttcheeks off.  I really did not expect for the show to be that funny (the OCR does not give away half that it could.)  Of the performers, I immediately fell in love with David Hyde Pierce, Sara Ramirez and Alan Tidyk.  The only sour note for me was the scandalous prices for the t-shirts and various souvineers--outrageous!  But otherwise,  I have to say that I haven't had that much fun at a show since Hairspray.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see another show.  After strolling around a bit, my companions were dying of heat stroke and, since I didn't spot anything at TKTS other than Sweet Charity (which no one was interested in), we left for home.  I will have to get up myself later this summer to take in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Piazza.  Perhaps I could meet up with you and DRs Elmore and Rodz then?

And then... New York City!

Actually Cruise on TODAY was not at all like Cruise on Oprah. On Oprah, he was a monkey, jumping all over the furniture, howling like a howler monkey, pumping his arms in the air, and acting like any 40 year old pre-adolescent should act.

On TODAY, he has been close to belligerent and antagonistic with Matt Lauer (who had the audacity to LIGHTLY challenge some of his statements). In fact, after the first part of the interview aired, Al Roker said that he found Cruise rude.

BTW, I've read all of this off the internet and in other entertainment coverage. I don't watch OPRAH or THE TODAY SHOW, so someone who has personally seen it might have more details.

Currently drinking a can of Coca-Cola Zero...

Hmmm...

I went ahead and checked out the Coke Zero website - www.cokezero.com - and I'm still a bit "puzzled".

I believe it was DR TCB who mentioned that Coke Zero has Less Calories, and Less Taste.  I have to agree.

It's not bad, just not good.

And from the press release and some of promotional items, it seems like they're trying to make this the Diet Coke for "today's generation".  However, the press release did state the main difference between Coke Zero and Diet Coke is the combination of artificial sweeteners used.  And that Coke Zero is just Coca-Cola flavor and nothing else.  Hmmm...

I think it was DR Matt H who thought it tasted like Tab.  I guess it does.  However, I think it also tastes a bit like Red Bull - which may be the not-so-hidden taste hook for the product.

In any case...

Why do I care?!?!??!

Today, on the new set and with microdisplay TV's ability to punch colors without making them bleed, I was floored by it. It looking astounding. Yep, I said that with my first few tastes, but after having drunk two liters of it, I know I won't be having any more. The more of it I drank, the less it tasted like watered-down TAB and more like just a bland diet soda. My grocery store's store brand is infinitely superior to this stuff.

I've never tasted Red Bull, so I can't comment on that, but in general I found Coke Zero to be a zero.

Another thing that knocked me out this time about SLEEPING BEAUTY was the intricacy of the backgrounds. The cracks and crannies on the stone walls were SO detailed, and I loved how moss colors and other things were added to give the walls texture.

I remember the late critic Gene Siskel (whom I never thought much of as a reviewer) commenting that he didn't much care for SLEEPING BEAUTY because the animation looked so flat. What movie did he watch? It's probably the most densely packed animated movie ever made in terms of detailed backgrounds and numerous planes of vision.

OK.  I saw some of the Cruise interview with Lauer, where he repeated his claim that Brooke Shields shouldn't have taken antidepressants, that she could have been cured of depression by taking vitamins.  He claimed to love Brooke, but that he has always been sure that psychiatry is a "pseudo-science," his word.

As someone whose life has been made better through taking antidepressants, I found Cruise's comments nauseating.  I am further repulsed by the idea that others out there, who are in need of help, will listen to him and follow his advice.  I was looking forward to seeing War of the Worlds; I'm not so sure that I want to see it now.

Would that THAT had been the extent of his comments to Lauer, but he totally lost his mind, went on a tirade exclaiming "You don't know psychiatry.  I KNOW psychiatry.  I've read up on it."  Or something to that effect.

Cruise has TOTALLY blown whatever credibility he might have had and is now a joke.

I didn't see Tom Cruise with Matt Lauer, but I did see him on the Oprah.  He basically acted like a goofball in love.  I also saw the original interview he did on Access Hollywood (where he made the comments about Brooke shields the first time).  And after having watched a bunch of interviews with Brooke about her ordeal, I thought what he said was really rude (and he claims to be her friend).

I have no doubt that putting drugs in your body has side effects.  And I will even believe that ideally it would be wonderful to use vitamins or exercise.  And I even admire the work Cruise is doing to try to help take children off of drugs.

However, that said, where does he get off saying that Brooke Shields or anyone else was not helped by drugs.  She has always seemed to me to be a caring, nice person. And for someone like her (who desperately wanted a child) to have not wanted anything to do with her, well there was obviously something seriously wrong.  I have no doubt that Tom has done research.  But has he researched her case? Does he know for a fact that vitamins would have helped her? It's very easy to tell her not to take pills. But unless he has lived in her shoes, I think most people will just be annoyed by his comments.

As for what happened with Matt Lauer, I'm glad Matt challenged him. I would be interested to see the clips of exactly what was said.  But I don't think Tom should be belittling anyone who doesn't agree with him.

I have a fair number of Tom Cruise films in my DVD library and will continue to enjoy them. I think he can be effective in some roles (but he's certainly not a multi-faceted actor).

I think he has displayed REAL hubris, however, in presuming to know what's best for Brooke Shields or anyone else without being a trained medical professional or even having examined her in ANY capacity. He's a fool.

As for his shameful behavior on Oprah, the man has been married twice and has presumably been in other love relationships before Katie Holmes. To go on a national talk show and act in such a completely out of control fashion is absurd especially being a celebrity who heretofore has coveted his privacy and challenged any and all media to leave him and his previous companions in peace.

How convenient that his new love affair has happened on the eve of BIG premieres for both of them.

Well, this may all be hearsay, but it's fun hearsay:

From Radar Magazine - http://www.radarmagazine.com/fresh-intelligence/

Quote
Katie Holmes may have fallen for it, but Tom Cruise’s sci-fi seduction technique scared the bejeezus out of Scarlett Johansson, a source close to the actress says. Weeks before he began wooing his brainwashed bride-to-be, Cruise made repeated phone calls to the 19-year-old starlet—who was then set to co-star with him in Mission Impossible III—imploring her to meet him at the Scientology Celebrity Center in L.A. But when the actress finally agreed, the supposedly professional get-together took an oddly spiritual turn. “[Cruise] took me into this room, which was stifling hot, and was showing me all kinds of info about joining the church,” Johansson told our source. “The whole time he didn’t even offer me a cookie!” Instead, he offered her dinner—and a glimpse into the Twilight Zone.

After two hours of proselytizing, our source says Cruise opened a door to reveal a second room full of upper-level Scientologists who had been waiting to dine with the pair, at which point the cool-headed ingenue politely excused herself. Soon after the meeting, Johansson dropped out of Mission Impossible III, reportedly due to scheduling conflicts. Asked about the incident, Johansson’s momager, Melanie Johansson, referred Radar to a publicist, who did not return calls or emails seeking comment. After striking out with Johansson, Cruise reportedly turned his attentions to 24-year-old Jessica Alba, 22-year-old Kate Bosworth, and 18-year-old Lindsay Lohan, before settling on the 26-year-old Holmes. As far we know, Cruise’s War of the Worlds co-star, Dakota Fanning, was never under consideration.

There are also some other fun tidbits there too.

Isn't scientology a pseudo-religion?  As well as a college offering degrees in Homo Nomo?

This is also from Radar Magazine - but it's not hearsay.

Here's a sampling of the questions that one must answer if one wants to be "pre-cleared" to be a Scientologist:

Quote

• Have you driven anyone insane?
• Have you ever killed the wrong person?
• Is anybody looking for you?
• Have you ever set a poor example?
• Did you come to Earth for evil purposes?
• Are you in hiding?
• Have you systematically set up mysteries?
• Have you ever made a practice of confusing people?
• Have you ever philosophized when you should have acted instead?
• Have you ever gone crazy?
• Have you ever sought to persuade someone of your insanity?
• Have you ever deserted, or betrayed, a great leader?
• Have you ever smothered a baby?
• Do you deserve to have any friends?
• Have you ever castrated anyone?
• Do you deserve to be enslaved?
• Is there any question on this list I had better not ask you again?
• Have you ever tried to make the physical universe less real?
• Have you ever zapped anyone?
• Have you ever had a body with a venereal disease? If so,
did you spread it?

I saw Mambo Kings in SF and rather enjoyed it for what it was.  The sets and lights and the dancing were great - the orchestrations were great - the singing wasn't bad - it all need some work, and I found it far more enjoyable than "Lennon" and it could totally be worked on, I hope it's not abandoned.

I didn't see Tom Cruise with Matt Lauer, but I did see him on the Oprah.  He basically acted like a goofball in love.

Acting being the keyword here.  I, for one, believe none of the romance, and I think it's a total setup by the press and his church to keep him looking butch ("I must be a man; I like girls").  I think Miss Holmes of Toledo is either in it for a bid at stardom, like Ms Kidman, or she's as demented as her beloved.

And I hope the movie tanks big time.  He's been a poor excuse as a press representative on this film.

Indeed is is that "Songs Of New York" Larry.  I don't really mind the song - it's really the Anita connection.  She can stay in her little corner of the world.

Oh I don't think that the Cruise/Holmes romance is fake.  Neither of them are that good at acting. :)  I really do think that he is just caught up in it all.

I had read the Scarlett Johansson gossip before.  Not sure if it is true.

I definitely think that even with the Today show incident that War of the Worlds will be huge.

I've always really liked Katie Holmes.  Although the way she has been acting lately on talkshows and the like is sort of a bit too gooey eyed for my taste.

And from everything I've seen/read from people who know Tom Cruise, he is supposedly a very wonderful kind man.  The thing about him that actually bothers me more than all this, is the whole Nicole Kidman divorce fiasco.  I wonder why the truth about that has never come out.  But for him to divorce her when she was pregnant seems really icky.

I didn't work on the Kern; that was Jonathan Tunick.  I don't think Ms Te Kanawa liked the conductor of the Gershwin enough to do another.  She was difficult to work with and quite unfriendly to one and all, since we were all privy to her rude studio attitude to Chris Groenendaal, Ron Raines, and others, along with her forgetting her music.  She threw a lovely tantrum at the conductor over the sound system as well.  No, I don't like her.

DRJennifer, I didn't mean to sound so snippy.  You're a very ingenuous lady, and the ideal audience the Cruise PR machine is targeting.

Good Evening!

-Well, it's technically Evening here on the East Coast already, so...

A bit of a change in plans.  I will not be heading down to Richmond tonight since my friends, Mike and Gary, whom I was going down to see tonight, have both come down with whatever has been going around right now - fever, sore throat, etc.  Instead, I'll be heading down Thursday night - like I have been doing - and possibly just spending the weekend down there through the 4th of July.  And, hopefully - well, not hopefully - I WILL go through my boxes o' stuff and make significant progress with that project.

However, the evening is far from a total bust.  My brother will be dropping off my niece and nephew in a little bit since he and his wife are actually going to have a "date night" tonight.  A long overdue one for them.  Ironically, they're going to see Mamma Mia! and I won't be playing in the pit.  Ah, well...

It'll be nice to spend some time with John and Alyssa.  -And, who knows, maybe John will like to see a Bollywood movie.  ;)

-MID-POST UPDATE...

Well, my brother and his wife have decided to treat themselves to a nice dinner tonight instead - this way they can get back in time to put the kids in bed.  They just dropped the kids off, and are now on their way to McCormick & Schmick's.

Hmm... I guess I should start thinking of dinner now too.

One more thing about Tom Cruise.

For YEARS now, I've dreaded seeing him on anything other than the movie screen because he is forever flashing that maniacal grin.

It's his response to EVERYthing, seemingly...and it comes off, to me, as nauseatingly insincere.

Nobody grins like that ALL the time.

And that grin is certainly a dumb response to nearly every question fired at him.

And just when you think he can't grin any more broadly, he gives his head a Jack Nicholson twitch and grins even more.

It makes me all that much happier to remember that Nicole has an Oscar, but Tom doesn't.

Well, since I have yet to have my dinner tonight, I guess I could talk about the dinner I had last night....

To "celebrate" my last Mamma Mia! I went ahead and finally went into the Ollie's Trolley a block from the theatre, and try an Ollie Burger for the first time in umpteen years.  I believe it was DR Rodzinksi who had tried one a couple of weeks ago.

I got the combo - burger, fries and a drink.  -All for under $6.00 too - not too bad.

It was a good meal.  The burger was a burger.  Nicely grilled, and seasoned with their "secret blend of 26 herbs & spices".  Or was it just 16 herbs and spices.  And it came on a nice bun with some of their "secret sauce", lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion.  The thin cut fries are also seasoned with the secret mixture - which appears to contain a lot of paprika - and they were very good.  I almost ordered a small to go.

;)

In any case... After years of walking by Ollie's on the way to either Ford's or the National Theatres - I usually park a block down from it - I can finally say I've had an Ollie Burger.

-Guess I need to try one with cheese now.

:)

I didn’t get a chance to tell you guys about the dream I had last night.  I have these wild adventures most of the time but this time I dreamed a new game show.

If it comes on TV remember, you read it here first.

It was called “Love or Money?”  It was six couples who had never met one another before the game.  Each couple searching for clues to a million dollars.  The catch being that once they find the million, they have to part company and never see one another again.

The other trick part of the game was this:  They all took a compatibility test before they started the game and the person they are looking for the money with is the perfect person for each of them.

I remember one couple just about had the money in their hands and realized that if they touched it, they had to say “Goodbye” to each other forever—they walked away from the money.

Weird, huh?  I don’t know what put that in my mind.

Reading the entire interview with Cruise and Lauer I find it very interesting.  IMHO Lauer did a great job.  What is missing is tone, and without TC’s arrogant tone (was it there?) his comments aren’t as bad as I believed them to be.  His thoughts on these drugs have some merit.  I have known people who where harmed by them.  I have known people who where harmed by therapy.  I also know people who have greatly benefited by both.

It is nice the public supported Brooke Shields.  I can’t imagine suffering as she did during a time that should have been a joyous occasion.  I do wish TC had been questioned about the consequences of not treating her problem and the risks to the baby.   He never offered better alternatives than vitamins-very strange.

Good vibes to Dan Proctor.

This morning I went to our Tuesday Growers Market and picked up some spectacular Sunflowers.

A long time (Jr. High) close friend and her husband are currently driving from LA to us, taking the coastal route.  They are arriving on Thursday.  I have tons of work, errands and cooking to do before they arrive so I won’t be around much until then.

Pogue is without Internet access, so he's not even skimming.

I'm back from Teddy, and beautifully kempt.  I'm going back on Saturday to get a little "summer" put in my hair.  Today I was regaled with stories of Miss Raquel Welch, whose hair Teddy has done for years.  Maybe I'll see if she'd like to sing on an album.

I don't think that I am the target audience for the Tom Cruise PR, cause War of the Worlds is not really my kind of movie.

Also, DR Danise, there actually was a reality tv show called For Love or Money. And it had some of the elements of yours (maybe you read about it?).  It had one contestant and then a group of the opposite sex.  The contestant had to deceive the group, then at the end they both had the choice to be together or leave for $1Million (or something like that).

I'm going to finish watching the DVD of Lifeguard.  It's been a fairly non-stop day.  Tomorrow looks equally as nutty, with a two hour meeting re the LACC show in the morning, and then the person who will be doing the Kritzerland shipping coming over and organizing everything, so that all is in readiment for the big day.  I'm setting up a big table in the garage for him to work on, so I'll be able to keep all this stuff out of the home environment.

BK:  I started a thread called "Noisemongering" over at the FSM Messageboard.

It's been interesting.  I defined my term and waited.  Our mutual "friend" has been relentlessly bullying, but I've been relentlessly obstinate in my refusals, in trying to get me to name names of someone I think is a hack.  I've actually done it in later posts, responding to other writers, but he's dissatisfied that I won't answer him.

If you have any feelings about the lack of quality coming out of some of our so-called film composers, you "might" find something worth commenting upon.

Before I came up with the correct answers for the trivia question I got fixated with these answers that did not pan out.

Name the hit play? LONG DAYS JOURNEY INTO NIGHT

Name the cast member who would recreate their role. JASON ROBARDS

Name the person who played the leading role in the film version of the hit play, and name the play they were appearing in at the same time as the hit play. MICHAEL REDGRAVE (THE SLEEPING PRINCE)

Name the person who played the lead in the hit play, and name the classic film they would co-star in (to great acclaim). Name the co-star from the hit play who also appeared in the classic film,

FREDRIC MARCH  (JEAN VALJEAN LES MIZ) FLORENCE ELDRIDGE (FANTINE)

and name the author of the novel the classic film was based on,
VICTOR HUGO

and the hit play that the author had on Broadway at the same time as the hit play of our contest.
And here is where I hit a stumbling block.

What was the hit play’s other claim to fame?
The first and so far only time that the author of an original play to win the TONY award had died before the play had open.

So I had it all except for that one. Then I had to start from scratch. But I enjoyed the search. It is all in the game that is the most fun!!

I love flowers. One of my favorites are purple roses.  But I can be very happy with just an assorted bunch.

One type I have never been too fond of is carnations.  Although they last much longer than roses!

I agree with you. Carnations are long lived.
I, too, of course, love roses and I prefer white flowers.
I don’t like all sorts of orchid much, because, for me, they seem to be gorgeous on the surface, but their shapes are peculiar and deformed and too gaudy.

I will no longer go see a movie with Mel Gibson or Tom Cruise. There public stand on certain issue I find offensive and ignorant. I cannout support their public endevors and hope that they will knock off their high horse eventually.

RE: Tom Cruise

1st marriage to Mimi Rodgers. Stated they couldn't have children. Yet after their divorce MR remarried and now has two children.

TC married Nicole Kidman and they couldn't have children (It was the woman's fault again) so they adopted 2.

Just before their 10th anniversary he surprise NK with a divorce. It seems that if you are married for 10+ in California the community property in more.

TC found a new girlfriend in Penelope Cruze which coincide with their opening of their film together. It bombed and I think after 6 months they went their separate ways.

And how does some who was so deeply religious that he considered becoming a monk and then join a sci-fi religion.

Then there were the stories how some of the younger male actors in the film Endless Love (which TC had a small role) got their roles in the film directed by Franco Zeferelli.

And then there is Mel Gibson who supports his father who is an Holocaust denialist among other things. This all came out around the time of The Passion of the Christ. At least he has no film roles  for the time being that I don't have to not go see.

Re Tom Cruise: I think people should mind their own business when it comes to other people's personal business. It's only your business when it's your loved one who is affected.

When he goes on national television to announce his love, when he actively courts the media to cover his blossoming love affair and intention to marry, then HE has made it ALL OF OUR BUSINESS if we or any of us choose to let it be so.

Which also means we are free to believe or disbelieve anything and everything he has to say.

I quite enjoyed EMPIRE tonight.

Oh, it's lousy as history of ancient Rome, and the plot has been made pure soap opera, but the production is magnificent with glorious high definition photography and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound booming all around. Quite a few very handsome and hunky male types, and there are some lovely virgins for the straight guys among us if you're interested in people watching.

Looking forward to the remaining installments in the coming weeks.

I am only repulsed by the idea that anyone would ever listen to the advice of Tom Cruise, Brooks Shields, or anyone else, other than the doctor treating them, as to what medications they should or shouldn't take for their physical, mental, or emotional well-being.

I have no problem telling Mr. Cruise or anyone else that I take Prozac on a daily basis, and I consider it the number one reason why I am still alive, sober, and, for the most part, well adjusted (don't say anything, Jed!).

Tomovoz - got your order confirmation and see you were charged an extra 3.50 for shipping, which means you did something incorrectly.  Everything must be done from the International Shipping page, once you've added the International shipping rate to your cart you have to go BACK to the International page to click on the items you want.  If you do it the regular way, it's going to automatically add the 3.50.  Anyway, as soon as I straighten out the paypal account tomorrow in terms of my being able to withdraw money from it, we'll credit you back the 3.50.

Didn't see and read the click international instruction first and then had to backtrack from the original basket.
The international order click was too far on the left of my screen to read at first. (I had my "favourites" list on the right).
I really should then have spent more time digesting the international instructions!!
Note: also Amex was not an option though the credit card symbol was on the earlier page.
