Maybe we should do a Friar's Roast in Celebration of Mark Bakalor's birthday. (But keep it clean)
Good morning DRs Michael and Elmore. And Goodnight.
I try to forget Anita Bryant and her paper roses. (and Marie Osmond too).
My "Songs Of New York" set says that "Second Hand Rose" was asequel to "Rose of Washington Square". (maybe the other way around).
...the detestable Anita Bryant, who now must be the patron saint of the religious right...No, she is quite forgotten. Those egotists never think of anyone other than themselves.
Yesterday we found a new soap dish (hey, not as easy a thing to do as one might expect) and an artificial flower decoration to sit on the back of the toilet, along with the Kleenex box.Jane, dear, you may not need a Kleenex box as much as you think. Very few people are allergic to artificial flowers.
I am quite fond of lilies...I have many white Lilies planted on the north side of the house and assorted Day Lilies and some nice pink and yellow Lilies in other parts of the yard. My Canna Lilies are the talk of the neighborhood.....well, I talked about them once...to a neighbor....of course I refer to them as triffids.
These were hilarious WAR OF THE WORLDS spoilers. Too bad a creature doesn't come bursting from Mr. Cruise's chest, and THAT takes him out of the movie.
Nothing is cheerier than a pot filled with white petunias.
My warmest congratulations to Michael Shayne for being selected for the Sparkling Prize, and to the other successful investigators who, I sincerely hope, did not agonize as much as I, going down the various dead ends (did anyone think Death of a Salesman, Fredric March (Years Ago), Spencer Tracy (The Actress) and Arthur Kennedy (Peyton Place) would get them where they wanted to go? Damn that Grace Metalious for not having had a play running in the same season...or any play, for that matter)?
I don't know if it was the pain meds that hindered...or helped...me out...but I'm certain I won't be as tenacious in future. Oy! What a headache!
Or would it be Uta Häagen-Dazs?
-spelling counts, doesn't it?
Any speling is axceptible.
I beg to differ.Or a plate of sardines.
Nothing like a nice bowl of gillies.
;)
Yesterday, DR Jane posted...Jane, dear, you may not need a Kleenex box as much as you think. Very few people are allergic to artificial flowers.
;D
My primary dead end involved Uta Hagen and The Country Wife. Grace Kelly was uncurteous enough to have her Broadway appearance close months before hand. Fortunately, Uta eventually led me to the correct path.
What eye drops did you use during your allergic reaction?Visine-A, specially formulated for eye allergy relief.
Dan-the-Man, were you here in NYC this past weekend to see Spamalot? If so, what did you think?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARK BAKALOR! Have a beautiful day.
George did you see the original Cruise interview on Oprah? I didn’t.
Elmore have a good trip. I will miss you. :(
Aw, shucks, Nursie! My traveling companion and able assistant just emailed me that one of Cora's boys he's been rehearsing for the Ravinia Festival's ANYONE CAN WHISTLE next month was found shot in the head yesterday in Chicago; what a terrible story! I fear he may be traveling in a depression tomorrow.

Just got the Footlight order. Also substantial for ATB, and decent for GH. I actually just had to up the pressing for ATB.
And a Very Happy Birthday to Mr. Mark Bakalor!! ;D
Currently drinking a can of Coca-Cola Zero...
I think it was DR Matt H who thought it tasted like Tab. I guess it does. However, I think it also tastes a bit like Red Bull - which may be the not-so-hidden taste hook for the product.
On TODAY, he has been close to belligerent and antagonistic with Matt Lauer (who had the audacity to LIGHTLY challenge some of his statements). In fact, after the first part of the interview aired, Al Roker said that he found Cruise rude.OK. I saw some of the Cruise interview with Lauer, where he repeated his claim that Brooke Shields shouldn't have taken antidepressants, that she could have been cured of depression by taking vitamins. He claimed to love Brooke, but that he has always been sure that psychiatry is a "pseudo-science," his word.
BTW, I've read all of this off the internet and in other entertainment coverage. I don't watch OPRAH or THE TODAY SHOW, so someone who has personally seen it might have more details.
DR Sandra and I are just settling down to watch the Phantom of the Opera dvd we bought last month.Be afraid. Be very afraid.

As someone whose life has been made better through taking antidepressants, I found Cruise's comments nauseating. I am further repulsed by the idea that others out there, who are in need of help, will listen to him and follow his advice. I was looking forward to seeing War of the Worlds; I'm not so sure that I want to see it now.
I thought the deal with Coke Zero (a horrible name) was that it was NO CARBS. Is that not part of the deal? In any case, I couldn't even finish the bottle of it I had in Portland.
I hope it doesn't destroy WOTW, but I admit I have no impulse to see it because I just have had my fill of Tom Cruise...he's right up there with Wacko Jacko on my all-time don't-care-if-I-ever-see-or-hear-of-him-again list.
Dan Proctor, whose latest role was in "The Music Man" at Drury Lane's Oak Brook stage, was shot in the head in the 1400 block of West Carmen about 3:15 a.m. Sunday. He was listed in critical but stable condition Monday night at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Katie Holmes may have fallen for it, but Tom Cruise’s sci-fi seduction technique scared the bejeezus out of Scarlett Johansson, a source close to the actress says. Weeks before he began wooing his brainwashed bride-to-be, Cruise made repeated phone calls to the 19-year-old starlet—who was then set to co-star with him in Mission Impossible III—imploring her to meet him at the Scientology Celebrity Center in L.A. But when the actress finally agreed, the supposedly professional get-together took an oddly spiritual turn. “[Cruise] took me into this room, which was stifling hot, and was showing me all kinds of info about joining the church,” Johansson told our source. “The whole time he didn’t even offer me a cookie!” Instead, he offered her dinner—and a glimpse into the Twilight Zone.
After two hours of proselytizing, our source says Cruise opened a door to reveal a second room full of upper-level Scientologists who had been waiting to dine with the pair, at which point the cool-headed ingenue politely excused herself. Soon after the meeting, Johansson dropped out of Mission Impossible III, reportedly due to scheduling conflicts. Asked about the incident, Johansson’s momager, Melanie Johansson, referred Radar to a publicist, who did not return calls or emails seeking comment. After striking out with Johansson, Cruise reportedly turned his attentions to 24-year-old Jessica Alba, 22-year-old Kate Bosworth, and 18-year-old Lindsay Lohan, before settling on the 26-year-old Holmes. As far we know, Cruise’s War of the Worlds co-star, Dakota Fanning, was never under consideration.

I didn't see Tom Cruise with Matt Lauer, but I did see him on the Oprah. He basically acted like a goofball in love.
I saw Mambo Kings in SF and rather enjoyed it for what it was. The sets and lights and the dancing were great - the orchestrations were great - the singing wasn't bad - it all need some work, and I found it far more enjoyable than "Lennon" and it could totally be worked on, I hope it's not abandoned.
This is from the Chicago Sun-Times (http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-actor28.html).
Vibes to Mr. Proctor.

Well, this may all be hearsay, but it's fun hearsay:
From Radar Magazine - http://www.radarmagazine.com/fresh-intelligence/There are also some other fun tidbits there too.
;D
This is also from Radar Magazine - but it's not hearsay.
Here's a sampling of the questions that one must answer if one wants to be "pre-cleared" to be a Scientologist:[/size]
Hi Jose-
Inwood is north of Washington Heights. Actually, that neighborhood is as far north as you can go and still be in Manhattan. It has beautiful parks and cool Art Deco buildings.
DRTomovoz, I loathe the detestable Anita Bryant, who now must be the patron saint of the religious right, but I always loved the song, which seems to have been "borrowed" from Vivian Ellis' "This Is My Lovely Day" from BLESS THE BRIDE.Indeed is is that "Songs Of New York" Larry. I don't really mind the song - it's really the Anita connection. She can stay in her little corner of the world.
Is that "Songs of New York" set the one I did with John McGlinn, an artiste of whom I could say many things?
Oh I don't think that the Cruise/Holmes romance is fake. Neither of them are that good at acting. :) I really do think that he is just caught up in it all.

And from everything I've seen/read from people who know Tom Cruise, he is supposedly a very wonderful kind man. The thing about him that actually bothers me more than all this, is the whole Nicole Kidman divorce fiasco. I wonder why the truth about that has never come out. But for him to divorce her when she was pregnant seems really icky.

Speaking of your favourites - Amazon were rcommending Dame Kiri's Kern recording to me. Even the reviews on the site were bad. Was it worse than the Gershwin?
Nicole was having an affair with Jim Broadbent?
I thought the deal with Coke Zero (a horrible name) was that it was NO CARBS.

Well, you have to admit, it lives up (or down) to it's name. :-\
I recieved my Jeepers Creepers CD today. I haven't had time to listen to it but am very much looking forward to it.

Here is my favorite flower. This picture was taken last month -- the finches are busy feasting on the seeds now.
Re Tom Cruise: I think people should mind their own business when it comes to other people's personal business. It's only your business when it's your loved one who is affected.
Just another thought about "Mambo Kings" - I went with my pal Mark who had seen "Bombay Dreams" in NYC - and both agree that "Mambo Kings" was the Latin version of "Bombay Dreams" - without the water.
Time to fix dinner. Pork loin chops, baby Yukons (steamed) and my famous zucchini fritters.
I'm surprised no one has posted photos of their gardens yet. I, for one, would love to see some!
I'm still debating if I want to see it, because WOTW is the kind of movie that I would only want to see on a big screen. TC is very quickly climbing higher on my "all-time don't-care-if-I-ever-see-or-hear-of-him-again list," too. :P
Hello DR Jed. Hope you are feeling better. Unlike some I didn't consider bird flu a possibility. Your not likely to be in the "Birdcage" like a few of us Hainsies.
Perhaps not, but there is that odd bird I spend my time with...
I am, indeed, feeling quite a bit better now. I ended up staying home from work again today, but have been feeling pretty much my usual (or unusual) self for much of the afternoon.
Where's DRCharlesPogue been lately?
DR George, re: Nicole Kidman being pregnant. Her two kids are adopted. But I believe she was pregnant when Cruise filed for divorce, but lost the baby.
Oh, and you International types who either tried to order and couldn't, or were going to order when we were able to process the International orders - now is as good a time as any.Laters BK

I love flowers. One of my favorites are purple roses. But I can be very happy with just an assorted bunch.
One type I have never been too fond of is carnations. Although they last much longer than roses!

I believe I've just made the deal for the next Kritzerland release. I'll know for sure in the next few days. It's something I think everyone here will really enjoy.
Dear Hisaka, your order worked.
DR Jed: Was that chicken you ate for dinner the one that gave you the flu?Australians are referred to as "diggers" at times. (usually only an army reference though). lol. No offence Ron.
DR TomovOZ: A dig? At moi? Hah! Ha-ha!

I'm with bk - restless. We're trying to plan our "day trip" to London from Paris - I got the theatre tickets (Mary Poppins) and the train tickets, it's up to Eric to get us around. He wants to go to Jamie Oliver's restaurant "15" but we can't find it on the map. I have two requests, the theatre and Dress Circle, after that, I don't care . It's going to be too too fun! Hoo and ray!
