Congratulations, DR Dear Lurker Iris, on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!!
-
Good morning, all!

I spent most of my day lying around feeling as though I would fall asleep at any moment. Finally, just before 8:00, I tiurned off the lights AZnd lay awake in bed for over two hours. Annabelle kept playing with me, which dfidn't help. At one point she did something - I no longer recall what - and "pluck your magicx twanger" popped into my head. She was just like Froggy on that wonderful Andy Devine children's show I loved as a kid.
-
Then I had a disturbing dream that was both scary and weird. I dreamed I was leaving an office in midtown NYC to go home for the night, and my brother Macbeth and a pretty, dark-haired singer like Laura Nyro were with me. I was anxious to leave the office before nightfall because something was haunting the space. We had t wrestle Annabelle, Stella, and Thatch into their carriers, and there was something like a small dirty and battered puppy stuck between the windw sill and the screen. I thought it was Thatch at first, and when I touched it, it flew up into the blinds. My brother kept rushing us to get out of the building to meet our ride. He and the singer-songwriter headed for the exit door. I was siging something ad the singer asked what it was. I said something back like, your a songwriter who doesn't know Cryer and Ford?
They went through the exit door and I realized I had not locked the office so I had to go back, a thought that had me very frightened. I was carrying Thatch's carrier and when I looked inside to check on him, he looked wizened and shriveled. That's when I woke.'

DR John G, I lost faith in Patricia Cornwell when she published "her
theory on Jack the ripper. The only problem was "her solution was the same one Stephen Knight used forty years ago in his Jack the Ripper: the Final Solution.

Yesterday, I decided it was too late to make pasta sauce, so I chopped up vegetables and did all my prep work to cook today. I am taking it easy for tomorrow's procedure.

Good morning, all.

Hard to believe it's already cataract surgery time for DR Elmore!
Which is good news, of course.
What time tomorrow is it scheduled for?
-
I'm glad that the sign shows the hedgehogs where they should cross.
And that they're to proceed slowly. Because the FAST hedgehog crossing is down the road a bit.
-
Today is our second (and last) matinee.
After which, I have a REHEARSAL.

It seems like they have more than their fair share of calicos on those Greek islands.
Maybe there should be an ISLAND named Calicos. Or Kalikos. Because of the cats...?
Okay, never mind.

Jo has informed me that yesterday the doctors had Randy up and walking and he sat up in a chair for 2.5 hours. She says he is doing very well.

i need to go down for the mail and take the garbage to the basement.

Question for the class:
Is anyone familiar with the 1961 Mexico City cast recording of The Fantasticks - Los Fantastikos - that Stage Door is reissuing? I know it's been a rarity, but how good is it, actually?
I'm probably willing to just find out for myself, but I wanted to ask.

Good news about Randy.

Congrats to DR GEORGE & DR IRIS LURKER on their millstones.

Today is our Annual Meeting for the Theeder Co. Where the public is invited and last year two people decided to stand up and tell us everything we had done wrong to them and how we were all horrible people - and that other board members felt the same way but they were afraid to speak out for fear of being treated the same way.
I knew exactly who they were talking about - that ONE board member cast the wife in a role in her show this year and brought in the husband to "fix" the sound and save her show.
Hopefully they will keep their big mouths shut today. As I told President Shelly - the best response is no response - especially since that same board member is of course breathlessly reported everything said or done in our meetings to them.....
-
Shooting vibes for MR BK!
-
Interesting, DR Jrand72. I haven’t heard of a theeder meeting anywhere around here that the public is invited to.
-
Great news about Randy.
-
Sending all the best about tomorrow’s surgery, Elmore.
-
Good morning.
-
Very good (and welcome) news about DB Randy.
-
Wow, DR Jrand72. Sounds like there's more drama going on at the Board meeting (and behind-the-scenes) than on the boards for that Board member's show.

Back in 1975, I was assigned to Naples, Italy, in my capacity as a Navy Journalist in the Public Affairs Office of Naval Support Activity.
Naples had a llttle theater (Naples Little Theater, to be precise), and I joined it enthusiastically. My first part was as brother of Thoreau in "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail". Shortly afterward, the theater group was to have elections for the next year. One man was considered a shoo-in for president and he was running unopposed. A teacher who had been responsbile for the group's origins several years earlier was no longer involved with the group because he became leader of the union that governed the teaching staff for Department of Defense civilian teachers.
That's the prelude. What happened was this: The civilian who was a shoo-in had been offered a job elsewhere and withdrew. I was elected president. I do not know why, to this day. But it happened.
We had a few hundred dollars in our treasury, but the new slate of officers was fired up to do a really great new year of plays. The norm was three. We did five.
At the end of the year, we had more than $5,000 in our treasury.
Most of our officers were not eligible to run again as we were mostly military and our tours were going to end in coming months. Who steps up? The teacher who had started the group.
But his campaign was to slander the rest of us for taking the little theater backwards. He despised our excellent (fully sold out) production of "That Championship Season". He excoriated us for doing a "free" production of "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown", which we performed in a variety of venues, always free, and happily received. He thought we had ruined the fine reputation he had set.
Most of us were dumbfounded at his pitch, but even moreso when he won.
I learned a year later that the theater had folded. Mismanagement and some truly awful productions sealed the deal.
So...whaddaygonnado???
-
To be honest, I guess I do understand why I was elected.
Two years prior to my Naples assignment, I was working at the Armed Forces Radio network station in Vicenza, Italy, which served all the U.S. military bases in Italy. I did the morning news, so I had name recognition. It also didn't hurt that in Naples, I was editor of the base newspaper. And, after Thoreau, but before the election, I had played Mortimer in a production of "Arsenic and Old Lace."
Horn blown.
-
Good morning and Happy Sunday to one and all. There's a new Broadway Radio Show now up on this site called The Amazing Mr. Kitt as we look at the career of the Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winning composer/lyricist Tom Kitt, who is also a hugely in demand arranger/orchestrator. You'll hear songs from his long career from High Fidelity back in 2006 all the way up to his most recent efforts Flying Over Sunset and Almost Famous.

What a story DR RON PULLIAM!
-
I think we should divide up into affinity groups here at HHW and discuss our own feelings about ourselves.....
And DR GEORGE & DR CHAS SMITH remember - and remind everyone: You only have to give 75% when you are onstage! Don't waste your energy!
-
They could have at least given 76% in 1776. But that's just my humble opinion.
-
Thanks for sharing your experiences, DR Ron Pulliam.
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.
-
I thought I'd fixed the Ask BK Day thing.
-
What a story DR RON PULLIAM!
Indeed.
-
What a story DR RON PULLIAM!
Thanks for sharing your experiences, DR Ron Pulliam.
I got it off my chest, at any rate!
Oddly enough, I returned to Naples 10 years later for a NATO assignment, and that same teacher approached me about starting the theater up again. The best we could do was a dinner theater production which I directed. That was enough for me. Mouting a production in the base theater did not pan out. An earthquake had struck Naples in the late 70s and a lot of the housing near the base was considered unsafe, so folks had moved farther out. Because of that, no one wanted to travel 15 miles or more if they didn't have a lead role. Pete, the teacher, wanted to do "Guys and Dolls". 50 or so people responded to auditions, but after it was cast, less than half showed up for rehearsals. He then decided to do a smaller show..."A Funny Thing..."...and he cast it, and at the first rehearsal only five showed up.
Logistics are funny sometimes.

DR Ron thank you for the partial breakdown on the Vulture article. I did read some of it and thought I didn't understand what I was reading. Now I know it really didn't make any sense.

DR George I didn't realize that last night was the longest playoff game in MLB history. 1-0 sounds a bit frustrating.

DR TCB is any progress being made on treating your hands?

The kitty photos are sweet. When we were on Hydra I purchased a cute pink t-shirt with multiple cat drawings on it and said the cats of Hydra. Unfortunately I put a hole in it.
-
When we travel I like to purchase t-shirts with favorite places on it. Finding a t-shirt to fit me is difficult, and finding a nice style I like even more difficult. This had everything. To my disappointment I put a hole in the t-shirt and no longer have it.
-
DR Ron, Keith is checking if we can get John Carter. Thanks for saying where you watched it. It is hard to imagine we didn't see this in 2012. Since we don't remember it we figure it would be worth watching again if we have seen it.

Speaking of John Carter, has anyone read any of books? I have read a few of the Tarzan novels but not John Carter.

Thanks for the feedback on Patricia Cornwall. I think I will pass for now since I have plenty to read.

The pasta sauce has turned out quite nicely, much better than my last chicken stew.

I called Randy. He sounds terrific. He was waiting for physical therapy to take him walking around the hospital. He thinks he will be relerased on Tuesday. He said the Macbeths were in earlier. Turns out that I, as the oldest, am the last to have cataract surgery.

Such good news DR ELMORE. Congratulations to you and the kitties!
Can an animated film be far behind?
-
Or maybe even a daily strip!
-
The troublemakers were there but they were just grinding their gears and actually didn't say much.
I hope they were embarrassed when their antics were read about in the last year's minutes.....but then again, they are somewhat like that "actress" in the news right now.
-
Hard freeze predicted for Monday and Tuesday night......I guess winter is coming......at least we haven't had nor are we predicted any s**w like DR singdaw had.
-
I think I will have a vodka and cranberry juice.....and for those who say it's too early for vodka - I say only: "It's October!"
-
And now...act two!
-
Back from a fun and relatively easy shoot. Right away, after seeing everything, I changed course and we had Sami prerecord the two songs because I did not want multiple takes to deal with. Then we shot both songs from a variety of different angles and the dolly thing we have is fantastic. We wrapped just on time.
-
The engineer was terrific and he LOVED me because unlike most people in recording sessions, I'm easygoing and funny.
-
That's wonderful, BK. Good news. A nice start to your five days.
-
He now sends the Pro Tools session to John Adams and since the orchestra track is mixed, he just puts Sami's track over it, gets our special reverb we like and tweaks anything that needs tweaking. Sami really did a good job - we did two takes of each song, the second take being best, and then we just punched in the couple of things that we had to fix. And boy does this girl know how to lip synch perfectly.
-
Well, it looks like Annabelle & Thatch will be published in early 2023.
DR elmore3003 - AMAZING news!! Congratulations. I am so thrilled for you.

Went to Uncle Andre's for fried catfish, but it was closed, so just went up the street to Gelson's and got some ribs there.

I think I ate too many ribs.

I ran out of Pepcid last night - I'd ordered some from Amazon but they're not getting here until Thursday or Friday. So, I just did a DoorDash for CVS so that I have some, just in case.

That burger sounds mighty delicious, DR George.

Good night, friends.

We are going to watch John Carter.
-
'night
-
I feel I've eaten too many ribs.
-
Too Many Ribs - that's the title of my next novel.
-
I've tried to watch about six things but keep turning them off. The latest was Nine, which I saw just before it came out and which I and the entire audience at the DGA hated every minute of. I'm not sure I lasted until the end. But you never know how you'll feel several years down the line. Well, it's even worse than I remembered, a completely misbegotten adaptation with a horrid performance by its leading man and ridiculous direction.
-
Speaking of John Carter, has anyone read any of books? I have read a few of the Tarzan novels but not John Carter.
I read a few of the Burroughs books way back when..."Princess of Mars" was one, and that is what John Carter was based upon. I understand why they changed the title, because the story is more about Carter than Deja Thoris. BUT...they should have called it "John Carter of Mars".
-
We are going to watch John Carter.
I hope you enjoy it.
-
I have very little to recommend myself for the day's activities.
I did partake in a Zoom chat with a few film-music loving friends...among them was BK's editor Marhsall Harvey. He left early because he had to meet BK. I told him to say "Hey" for me. I hope he did.
;)
-
I watched a couple of new Masterpiece Theater mysteries.
The first was the first episode of "Magpie Murder". Don't know where it's going but there is a manuscript by a murder writer that is missing the final chapter. The main character in the story (a series of books actually) is named Atticus Pund. In this book, also called "Magpie Murder", Pund is dying of a tumor. Sadly, the writer ends up dead, possibly of suicide because he had terminal cancer. The missing chapter is critical to the publishing company for whom the writer is the star attraction. If they cannot publish the book, the company will fold. The story editor is on the trail of the missing chapter.
The second is called "Annika". It's also a mystery but Annika is a detective sergeant or inspector and has a mysterious death on her hands (death by a harpoon). She breaks the fourth wall frequently throughout episode 1...whenever she can do so without anyone else nearby to hear her.
I think both are worth sticking with until the prove they aren't.

That is well and truly all I know from today's exploits.
Sigh.

DR TCB
I found the name of a well regarded hand specialist near you.
His name is Dr. Frederick Johnstone. He works out of The Rainier Orthopedic Institute.
-
His address is 3801 5th St.
Phone number is 253-845-9585.
Excellent background, good reviews.
Perhaps you might want to have a consultation with him.
-
I think your primary care doctor would need to refer you.
Not giving up on you! 😊
-
Good night, all.
-
I gotta tell you. Listening to the eighth and final symphony of Charles Tournemire. Very moody.
-
I'm beginning to think I ate too many ribs.
-
If anyone was wondering.
-
I may write the notes and schedule them, then change the topic around eleven-thirty. Need a good night's sleep for our long shoot day tomorrow. I have to be at the location by nine-fifteen or so.

That burger sounds mighty delicious, DR George.
I was surprised how much I liked it.
-
Tomorrow, I'm back to work, but for the first time in about a month and a half, I don't have rehearsal! ;D
-
I WILL, however, continue to go through ALL my lines!
-
I'm beginning to feel like I may have eaten too many ribs.
-
I'm not ribbing you.
-
I feel like I want to vomit on the ground.
-
Hopefully, I won't.
-
Can you vomit up ribs?
-
What the HELL am I talking about?
-
New notes are written and scheduled for 12:01. Hopefully that will work. I'll probably change the topic in thirty minutes or so.
-
Is page eight anywhere nearby?
-
I know not.
-
I was just asking.
-
Say what?
-
What say?
-
I fear we're far away from page eight.
-
But there's plenty of time, oh, yes, there's plenty of time.
-
Well, that's fascinating. No TCB - no George - no page eight.
-
What a revoltin' development this is.
-
That's what Chester A. Riley would say.
-
And did say.
