Well, you've read the notes, the notes babbled on about Babylon, and now it is time for you to post until the babbling on cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HIGHLIGHT!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Excerpt from the Houston Chronicle’s review of BABYLON:
“Why opt for subtlety and insight, when you can have upchuck and defecation”?
-
No thanks.

Two of my favorite things! 8)
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Still have Internet, so far.
-
We'll see for how long.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The alarm rang at 5:45 and Thatch, Annabelle, and I snuggled under the blankets until 6:30. During then I had a dream that I was asked to orchestrate two numbers for a new show, so most of the dream was about the sheet music I was given and what to do with it.
-
My day yesterday was pretty good. I expected the Jan. 6 hearing to go on longer than it did, but I really enjoyed it. I then puttered about the apartment, accomplished a few things, fed the cats and myself, and then read a couple of chapters of the Mary Rodgers bio, which I really love. When my copy arrived, my eyes were so bad that I could read very little. Now that I'm far into it, I spend my time laughing out loud at some of her comments and wishing she were still alive to have the chance to visit with her one more time.
-
At 8:00 last night, we watched the PBS Ultimate Christmas with Mary Berry. I really love her. Physically, she reminds me very much of my late friend Loyce Martin. I love her sense of humor and generosity of spirit. As with most of the British cooking shows, I find half the dishes delectable and the other half making me think, WTF.
-
I won't see Babylon in a theatre, since I see nothing these days, but I will most likely catch it on DVD when it's released. It sounds a bit like a retread of Day of the Locust, which I wouldn't mind seeing again.

Good morning!

Wordle: 3/6 also!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Bad night of sleep. I felt like I had had caffeine. I just couldn’t sleep. Even reading some of my Zola novel didn’t help.
-
Wordle and Phoodle in 4.
-
I love Day of he Locust. I doubt I would like Babylon for anything but the acting.
-
Reminds me a little of Amsterdam. Overlong, under- and overwritten. Margot Robbie and good performances for naught.

I am on the fence about Babylon. We shall see what happens.....
-
I bought a three CD set of hits from the Fabulous Fifties and a FLASH red t-shirt. And a book of Lake Woebegone stories.
Yes I was at the Goodwill Store today.
-
Sounds like a good trip, JRand.
-
Cranberry cherry pie in the oven.
Rolling out the crust was no problem. Wrapping the crust in foil was.
-
Now starting The Woman King.
-
Hellman’s has a recipe for mayo egg nog that makes me want to vomit on the ground.
-
I've been to the basement with the trash and picked up the mail. My health insurance for next year has been reduced by $7.00 a month, and my Social Security will give me $100 more a month. Merry Christmas to me!

From DR John:
A real tearjerker of a dog story. If you can’t get past the paywall, let me know.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/12/19/rescue-dog-cushings-disease-adoption/
Yup, that brought tears to my eyes.

From Ron:
You know, don't you, that some grocery stores have machines you can dump all your loose change into. It counts and tallies the value. It prints out a voucher and you give it to a cashier for the cash value.
Is there a limited on the amount you can put in there?
Every machine I found in Ashland, and I certain searched, at the time would have charged a fee to use it.
-
DR Singdaw I don't know if Paxlovid is more effective earlier than later, the later just can't be after the 5th day.
-
There is also some trying to figure if beginning Plaxlovid on the 4th or 5th day will reduce the chances of rebound covid.
-
Hellman’s has a recipe for mayo egg nog that makes me want to vomit on the ground.
Yuck!
-
DR Iris, that fee to use the machines for our coins is why we decided just to donate all of it to a good cause.
-
My DH dumped a jar into one of those machines, got his receipt, and went back the next day to redeem it. Sorry, must be redeemed the day you put the change in. So we lost it all.
-
I just like to carry the change in the car. Several times I have swapped coins for folding money. The cashiers are quite relieved to get the change. The Greek restaurant gave us an extra side dish to thank us.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
Back from the last (THANK GOD) morning concert at the school.
Another tonight, the final one tomorrow night, and I'm done.
-
Cough-free vibes for Singdaw
-
TOD
SALO - which seems poised to win some sort of prize today
I'll also go along with DR Elmore on CALIGULA, but I have a fondness for THUNDERCRACK! - however off the rails it goes at various times - ever since seeing its west coast premiere in the late 1970s. (Also: best vomit scene ever, for the connoisseurs among us.)
-
Congratulations to DR John G. on his new hand.
It looks........ impressive.
Will it be able to do things the old one couldn't?
-

Open more fully, hopefully. Maybe lay my fingers flat.
-
The Woman King is pretty good, not great. And about 20 minutes too long.
-
Onward!
-
Three!
-
Costco has toilet paper on sale. How different from two years ago.
-
This is the most violent movie I’ve seen in ages and it’s only rated PG-13. Strange. But I loved the big fight between the bad guy and the woman king. They both lose their swords and resort to a great fist fight.
-
I got a text from Xfinity that the neighborhood Internet work commenced at 10am this morning, and another text at 11:30am that the work was complete.
Color me pleasantly surprised.
-
Is a woman king different from a queen?
-
I suppose so.
-
I wouldn't go about losing my sword, however.
-
That could be a calamity.
-
Now starting The Woman King.
I have a hold on this from the library. I'm not near the top of the list, though. ::)
-
I've been to the basement with the trash and picked up the mail. My health insurance for next year has been reduced by $7.00 a month, and my Social Security will give me $100 more a month. Merry Christmas to me!
That's wonderful, Larry!
-
Hellman’s has a recipe for mayo egg nog that makes me want to vomit on the ground.
Yuck!
And Ditto Yuck!! :P
-
My DH dumped a jar into one of those machines, got his receipt, and went back the next day to redeem it. Sorry, must be redeemed the day you put the change in. So we lost it all.
That's terrible! >:(
-
Very happy for DR elmore3003's good new$.
-
I'm guessing DR John G. is pretty good at offering hefty mitts right about now.
-
I'm up, I'm up - a bit over eight hours of sleep. As soon as my eyes focus, I'm told I have some main titles to see.
-
I've had a nice bath. After I feed the cats, I need to call Access-a-Ride about tomorrow's trip to City Center.
-
I could use a nice nap.
-
DR ChasSmith, you saw the premiere of Thundercrack? I'm impressed.
-
Main titles are really cute - making one little adjustment.
-
My DH dumped a jar into one of those machines, got his receipt, and went back the next day to redeem it. Sorry, must be redeemed the day you put the change in. So we lost it all.
:o That had to have been upsetting. Did he double check to see if he missed a sign that stated it needed to be redeemed on the same day?
-
I just like to carry the change in the car. Several times I have swapped coins for folding money. The cashiers are quite relieved to get the change. The Greek restaurant gave us an extra side dish to thank us.
That was very nice of them.
-
At 18 when I moved out of my home I used my saved change & penny collection to buy food.
-
Back from the last (THANK GOD) morning concert at the school.
Another tonight, the final one tomorrow night, and I'm done.
Enjoy the last concert.
-
Cranberry cherry pie hot out of the oven

It looks good but should you really be baking right now?
-
Costco has toilet paper on sale. How different from two years ago.
I was very grateful to go into that time with an almost full bag of TP from Costco.
-
DR ChasSmith, you saw the premiere of Thundercrack? I'm impressed.
West coast premiere, as I later found out. It had had a NYC audience before ours which was a midnight showing at LA's FILMEX festival around 1976. It was run in the larger of the two Plitt Century City theaters, a helluva challenge for a low-light low-budget 16mm film, but it worked and it was an unforgettable evening.
It's a long film. A lot of material was subsequently cut for some midnight showings at the Nuart, one of LA's leading revival houses, and I think only that cut version went around for years until the last remaining copy of the film (only five prints existed) was salvaged and used for reconstruction of the uncut version for release on Blu-ray by Synapse.

I do not know from THUNDERCRACK.

THUNDERCRACK sounds like what happens during a bomb cyclone.
-
I do not know from THUNDERCRACK.
I don’t either.

Watching a documentary called The Book Keepers about a writer who dies as her first book is published and her husband does the promotional work for it.

The "feels like" has crept up from -14 to -12. So we're making progress.

Her book was Mister Owita’s Guide to Gardening.

Watching a documentary called The Book Keepers about a writer who dies as her first book is published and her husband does the promotional work for it.
Sad.
-
Reminds me of an author who died after completing a book, or two, and his mother pushed to get the book published. I wish I could remember exactly as I really liked what I read.
-
We are expecting 27 degree temps & snow on Thursday.
-
I postponed my morning haircut a week.

I prefer not to worry about dealing with the weather when I can easily wait on my hair. I don't have any plans where I need to look nice.

I think BK should write TWO books in 2023. Whatever he's going to write starting in January, and then a second book about his close personal friend, Stephen Sondheim. Everyone else is.

Lucky #99

Depressing, gray day that is woefully short. The lack of sunlight is not helping matters. Thankfully, the solstice is tomorrow.

Was that A Confederacy of Dunces?

You could write a book about being a close personal friend of a close personal friend of Stephen Sondheim’s.

I don't remember what the book was, however, everything else fits and this must be the novel. Thank you.

Hello, everyone.

Recovery vibes for John G, who may qualify as a:
glutton for punishment
obsessed baker
impatient patient
-
Congrats to Larry on his added income.
May we all have that.
-
Jane, thanks for the feedback regarding your friend's tear duct plugs. I've decided to forego the procedure, but am still interested in hearing how others do, as things change and I may feel the need to do it at some point in the future. I take black currant seed oil to combat overall dryness, which I would need anyway.
-
I have resumed my cull. So much has piled up! Today I went through a pile of papers, mostly requests for charitable donations, and tossed a LOT. Another pile remains. And this is the stuff that I didn't toss when it first came in. Ugh.
-
Hope you are feeling better, DR Jeanne. Slowly but surely.
-

I'd definitely love to read that book! :D

Did BK say he didn't like BABYLON? Really? We all know how much he admires vomit scenes.

;D

sounds like a gotcha to me. Was this Wells Fargo Bank? No one does rip-offs like they do.

Read a fun article about why the Angostura bitters label is too big for the bottle. It was originally a mistake, but then they decided to keep the mismatch to stand out.

Oh yes, it is nigh.

LOL. I wanted to bank with them as I liked their logo. We lasted a few months with them.

I too hope you are feeling better.

Strange.

Starting Magpie Murders.
The book or the show?
The show. And may I say Lesley Manville makes a mean G&t. Four parts gin to one part tonic. Looks wonderful.
-
Banking done.
-
And one of the book posters in the office is called Gin & Cyanide.
-
I joked on Facebook that I should jump on the Sondheim book bandwagon - it's so ridiculous - everyone and their mother some with no ties at all.
-
BTW, page six is waiting in the wings.
-
As am I.
-
I want Manville’s red convertible.
-
What to watch tonight?
-
Today I got screeners for The Fabelmans, which I've already seen, and something called The Woman King - from the title alone I can't imagine watching it. Should I watch Babylon again or just fast forward to the poop and pee and vomit scenes - oh, and I forgot the entire Tobey Maguire scene, which is where the film goes even further off the rails and is clearly modeled on the Alfred Molina scene in Boogie Nights, but magnified about 1200 times. In that scene, we get to watch a human freak eat a rat.
-

The show. And may I say Lesley Manville makes a mean G&t. Four parts gin to one part tonic. Looks wonderful.
Not something I would drink so I don't remember how she made it, or know how it is usually made.
-
I liked the show better than the book.
-
Just got a call from the doctor who performed the surgery. Wow. A house call in a more modern sense.

Pick up sticks.
-
Watch Netflix.
-
So it's back to work tomorrow, DR John G.?
-
Hope the pain is manageable.

I just realized I never read today's Notes. I'd better go remedy that.
-
OK. Now I know a movie NOT to see.
-
Not that I see a lot anyway.

What if T.S. Eliot called himself that to keep people from noticing that T. Eliot is "toilet" backward?

How was The Woman King?
-
Tried to find something to watch - nothing, not a damn thing.
-
'night
-
How was The Woman King?
Long. Action epic. Very violent. Also well acted. Viola Davis was impressive.
-
Good night, friends.

Hello?

Anybody home?
-
Apparently not.

Page seven has been waiting in the wings for quite some time.

As have I.

Welcome seventy-two GUESTS.

They're waiting in the wings, too.

Wings are full o' folks.

THUNDERCRACK sounds like what happens during a bomb cyclone.
I thought it was a Plumber’s Tale
-
Or a Plumber’s Tail
-
Former and hopefully soon to be back DR William F Orr has been declared Covid free and returned to a regular ward.
-
He now has a nice quiet roommate rather than the dementia patient who was loud and argumentative and sometimes violent
-
I saw him briefly tonight but he was in rather a lot of pain and not in the mood to socialize
-
Then I came home and made a quick meal of hotdogs and beans for Vixdad and I
-
He was working tonight and I had errands that needed doing
-
So do them I did
-
Now I’m wrapping gifts for tomorrow’s holiday luncheon and secret Santa exchange
-
Just stopped for a brief tea break
-
And to ketchup
-
Jane, I'm currently taking NOW Black Currant Oil softgels 500 mg. I was previously taking Vitacost's product, which has 1000 mg and taking just one a day. NOW recommends three/day. I don't know if Vitacost's is still available, but the 1000 mg is certainly more convenient. I saw improvement when I started taking it. Many women experience dryness later in life. Black currant seed oil is especially good for dry eyes.
-
Hi, Vixmom.
Vibes to former/almost-returned WFO.
-
Good night.
-
Watching Marathon Man.
A favorite of mine.

Is it safe?

That's where I am in Marathon Man.
-
Looks like I will finish Magpie tonight. Fun binge.
-
Is it safe?
Is it safe?
-
Where did everyone go?
-
Good night, all.
-
Okay, this is officially ridiculous that we are still on page seven, keeping page eight in the wings.

First of all, why is gaslighting going on?

Is it safe?

Good night
-
Time for banking.
Oh! I thought you wrote time for barfing!
-
Barfing is for the movies.
-
Where the HELL is George. How many rabbit holes can one person go down?
-
I'm listening to the soundtrack to The Amazing Colossal Man, un film de Bert I. Gordon - it's coupled with War of the Colossal Beast. This CD release was cancelled due to the rights' holders finding out about it and threatening the label. Oops. Lots of distortion but it sounds better than the tapes I've heard.
-
Someone say something.
-
We have a page waiting to make an entrance, you know.
-
Welcome sixty-eight GUESTS.
-
Nobody here but us chickens.
-
Oh well.
-
Hoop-de-do.
-
Is it safe?
I Assume this comes from a marathon man
-
You assume correctly.
-
I assume George is not going to show up - bad form.
-
Leaving us in the lurch and lurching us in the leave.
-
Unseemly.
-
Paging page nine.
-
Got to be around here somewhere.
-
Hiding in plain sight or in our case, site.
-
Gaslighting 101.
-
Am I now reduced to being a someone?
-
Is it safe?
-
You are A someone.
-
Page nine has made its entrance.
-
Your friend George has abandoned us, clearly.
-
Rabbit hole galore.
-
George may have gone up to Tacoma this evening. Well actually Lakewood.
-
Meanwhile, here we are, TCB and I.
-
Listening to a very interesting Mahler 6 from a BBC radio broadcast from 1962 conducted by Berthold Goldschmidt. Sound isn't too hot, but I'm quite taken with the performance.
-
Taken, do you hear me?
-
You are A someone.
Does that A have twoclittle squiggly letters behind it?
-
Meanwhile, here we are, TCB and I.
That is the name of my next murder mystery.
-
New notes are up.
-
Meanwhile, here we are, TCB and I.
That is the name of my next murder mystery.
Actually it is the story of my long-term friendship with Stephen Sondheim
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've danced to them.
-
I've eaten to them.
