Well, you've read the notes, the notes tried to get with the holiday spirit, and now it is time for you to post until the holiday cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TRIUMPH!
-
Happy birthday to William F. Orr and hoping he's feeling better.
-
Hoping everyone is feeling better.
-
A Very Happy Birthday (and Quick Recovery) to William F. Orr!! :D
-
Topic of the Day: I shall be listening to the two CDs that I received yesterday:
Carousel Waltz and Other Waltzes from the Musical Theatre (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Carousel-Waltz-and-Other-Waltzes-from-the-Musical-Theatre-1982-Compilation/5565#7032)
and:
Penelope, or How The Odyssey Was Really Written (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Penelope-or-How-The-Odyssey-Was-Really-Written-2022-Original-Off-Broadway-Cast/46939#71361)
-
A few days ago, I wanted to listed to the CD from BK's most recent Indiegogo campaign, "Frank Sinatra conducts Tone Poems of Color." I know I bought it, but I couldn't find it. :-\
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR TCB, there was no information with the gift card, but I thank you. You were very kind to send it.
-
I slept well unti 4:30 or so. It was so warm in the apartment that I could not sleep. I lay in bed for about an hour, listening to the rain hit the window, then got up.
-
Friday morning greetings! It’s -5 degrees here - brrr!
-
This morning I have a zoom meeting about the ballet from 10:00 to noon with my employers. We will go through the music I've been sent, the plot of the ballet, etc. I look forward to it.
-
You're up early, DR Ginny!
-
At some point, Jen is coming by to pick up their mail. Also, Amazon Fresh is delivering a few items.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
A Very Happy Birthday (and Quick Recovery) to William F. Orr!! :D
Ditto!
-
Thanks for the vibes. I am feeling marginally better this morning.

One more work day before the holiday weekend!

I don't have to step out of the house before tomorrow afternoon for Christmas Eve services.
-
Disrupted sleep last night, punctuated by quite vivid, but now forgotten, dreams.
-
Current "feels like" is -36.
-
A friend sent us a "vegan, gluten-free" carrot cake. I wonder what's in it?

:)
-
Birthday wishes for DR WFO!
-
You're up early, DR Ginny!
Woke up with a kitchen quandary on my mind and couldn’t go back to sleep.
-
Best birthday wishes to former DR WFO!

TOD:
For Christmas movies, I have The Ref and The Bishop’s Wife to watch.
I also have Tickets to Paradise and Louisiana Story.
-
I have finished kitty cleanup, made the bed, and unpacked the Fed Ex carton of ballet scores and scans. After I take the garbage to the basement and pick up the mail, I will relax until my meeting.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It’s 17 degrees out there.
-
Feeling better. I won’t be dancing a jig just yet, but what a difference already.
Paxlovid!
-
It’s 49 here, heading straight down to 9 by tomorrow morning.
-
Our “feels like” temp is -33.
-
Five minutes to my meeting. I've downloaded a scenario and unpacked my scores. I need a bigger table.
-
I resolved my kitchen quandary by deciding to make only a half batch of pecan snowball cookies.
-
Feels like 3 here.
-
On Wednesday I thawed butter and left it out to soften. It’s still not soft enough.
-
-7 degrees here with a feels like of -32.
I haven't tried to start my car today - I will try later. If I have no luck, I shall have to find a ride to the party.

I’ve got Louisiana Story on. Lousy print. But the Virgil Thompson score is great.
-
How are you feeling today, Singdaw?
-
Here in Tumwater, it's now 30° and we're having a late start at my work...the building won't open until 11:00 a.m. :)
-
Why are we still on 2?
-
Onward.
-
Three!
-
I saw Louisiana Story before. Equally bad print.
-
Car won't start.
Two of my brothers are NOT going.....brother-in-law is checking to see if his car will start.....then I can ride with them.....
Fingers crossed.
Band has canceled.
-
We shall see what happens. Hope Austin's car starts.
-
Feels like -24 degrees right now.....
-
I'm sorry about the party, JRand. I think you should stay home and keep warm. Maybe it can be rescheduled.
-
George I am glad you were warm when you got home.
-
Vibes for DR TCB!

It seems California likes all Christmas cookies as long as they are small ;D
-
A friend sent us a "vegan, gluten-free" carrot cake. I wonder what's in it?
I used to buy gluten-free pumpkin bread & other treats in Ashland, not because they were gluten-free but because they were delicious.
-

Paxlovid!
I am glad the Paxlovid is working for you. I have already determined, unless I am very sick, the risk of Paxlovid side effects triggering issues for me is not worth the risk.
-
I resolved my kitchen quandary by deciding to make only a half batch of pecan snowball cookies.
How many people will be eating these?

It must be cold in your place. Try putting it in a cupboard.

I am disappointed two of your brothers are not going.

Well, I suppose I should (finally) get out of bed and get ready for work. I need to allow enough time for slippery roads.
Until later!

I resolved my kitchen quandary by deciding to make only a half batch of pecan snowball cookies.
How many people will be eating these?
Just the 2 of us and they’re not Richard’s favorites. I’ll take a few to his brother’s house on Sunday. My half batch yielded 20, which is plenty.
-
We shall see what happens. Hope Austin's car starts.
VIBES IT DOES!
Is his car in a garage vs sitting out like your car?
-
When we lived in New Jersey Keith needed to put a blanket over his engine at night so his car would start on cold mornings.

My quandary was my supply of pecan halves. My sister brought me a pound and a half from Georgia last spring and I froze them for holiday baking. If I’d made a full batch of these cookies I might not have enough for the pecan pie I was asked to make for Christmas dinner.

That sounds like more than enough.

I personally prefer my Mexican wedding cakes, which I believe are the same as your cookies, WITHOUT pecans. I was thinking if there were more people, which there aren't, you could make half a batch without pecans.
-
DR LAURA - I know.....but with the number of folks - including family - who are dodging the event....I felt it necessary to make every effort.
DR JANE - Austin's car did start....and it is left outside. I'm going to ask him what kind of battery he has and get one of those next week or so....temps on Wednesday expected to be in the 40's.
-
My effort to get there is NOTHING compared to the folks who have put the event together.....
Word is KARAOKE since the band isn't coming - so there are a few of my "singing" relatives I hope decide to forego the event.

I know it is important you get there. Vibes Austin's car starts again when it is time to leave for the party. Is your battery dead then or will you try your car again later? It is probably best to take the ride.

It sounds like they came up with a good alternative after the band cancelled.

I forgot to say thank you.

That is hurting my eyes. I will need to find an easier summary to read.

Our Zoom meeting went very well. We talked through Act One, and next Friday we will do Act Two.

Well, to be on the safe side, I did leave the pecans out of the Lemon Lime Jello Pineapple Cottage Cheese Surprise that will accompany our Christmas Eve pork roast.
-
Well, I suppose I should (finally) get out of bed and get ready for work. I need to allow enough time for slippery roads.
Until later!
So, I got to work just a little after 11:00...and only one, count 'em, ONE other person is here! :o

Yesterday I was telling Keith about the book I am reading, "The Great Bridge" about the building of the Brooklyn Bridge.
-
Keith said I had read & told him about this already and about the family that built it. When he mentioned the family my response was "Are you sure you haven't read it". He insists he hasn't and I don't remember reading it.
-
Last night I did a search here and found a post I made.

I forgot that Keith purchased, using his Nook aap, THE GREAT BRIDGE by David McCullough which I will read one of these days. My Nook library shows 45 books, all of which I've read or am reading.
-
After all these years I truly have forgotten that I read it, or I never got around to it.
-
David McCullough is such a good writer I could re-read it. At over 600 pages do I really want to.
-
You're welcome DR JANE.
I've read about a hundred pages - interesting but nothing we didn't see on tv.....at least yet.
-
No I'm not gonna try my car again until it gets warmer on Wednesday - then I'll drive over to CAR X and buy a new battery.
-
I'm thinking there will be lots of catered food to bring home from the party.....so I may not have to cook tomorrow!
-
Of course I am taking my camera to document the goings on.
-
Feel better vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
-
DR ELMORE glad your meeting went well....did you hear any Indiana-isms from anyone, y'all?
Did everyone tote everything they needed to ZOOM soiree?
-
And remember when you're talking about Indiana geography:
North Vernon is south.
South Bend is north.
And French Lick is nothing like it sounds.

Page Five Geography Facts.

LOL! Actually, there was no one from Indiana at the meeting. Doug is in Seattle and Phil is in Brooklyn.
-
I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of really needed sleep.
-
I've been alerted there are two packages that have been delivered, both screeners.

No. He lives out in Lacey (about 8 or 9 miles away).
-
How are you feeling today, Singdaw?
I am well enough to work, but would much rather be curled up in bed with a book.
Even when I am well, I’d much rather be curled up with a book.

The hand is healing. Cast is off, but I have a strange splint on it now that I am supposed to use.

Jane Austen's Emma was published on this day in 1815.

How are you feeling today, Singdaw?
Same here, or on the treadmill. I haven't read at all today since I haven't decided what to read.
I am well enough to work, but would much rather be curled up in bed with a book.
Even when I am well, I’d much rather be curled up with a book.
-
No exercise and I am eating myself sick on candy gifted by neighbors.
-
Since I am not baking and gifting back it doesn't feel like Christmas.
-
The hand is healing. Cast is off, but I have a strange splint on it now that I am supposed to use.
I didn't realize that was a cast under the wrap. Is there a photo of the strange splint? Are you permitted to take it off to shower?

Milwaukee would be funnier as it is way colder there.

No.
-
Picked up two screeners - Babylon and Glass Onion - of course, I've seen and loathed Babble On, so I'll view Glass Onion.
-
No miracles today, as of yet.
-
Doing the two batches of tuna pasta salad now and getting that out of the way.
-
Had Subway for food. Pretty good.
-
Page seven is waiting in the wings.
-
As am I.
-
Water for the pasta is heating up and will soon be boiling.
-
And now for some Gushers, baby.
-
That's what I'M talkin' about.
-
Good evening.
-
I walked over to the grocery store this afternoon.
-
That's about all the news from here.
-
I walked over to the grocery store this afternoon.
How far is your walk?
-
It was 3.75 miles.
-
They were selling eggs with an expiration date of tomorrow for $2 per dozen. So I bought 2 dozen. Last time I bought eggs they were almost $5 per dozen.
-
I only went up there to buy feta cheese.
-
Two big batches of tuna pasta salad have been made. So, all I have to do later is slice, dice, mince, and chop.
-
That will take an hour or so.
-
I'd do it now but I spent an hour doing the tuna pasta salad, so I think I'll just watch a movie right now.
-
Yes, I think I will.
-
I'm sure I will.
-
I'm full from the Subway.
-
I've been in the subway and it was full - no seats, and standing next to sweaty people.
-
My trackpad has taken on a life of its own. I may have to shut it off and clean it, although it's not dirty. It zooms things out without me even touching it, and it does other things even though I'm not touching it. Is it haunted????
-
The Haunted Trackpad - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Okay, there IS gaslighting going on here.
-
We should have been off this page ages ago.
-
Sure, the minute I call it out - THEN it changes the page. Pure gaslighting 101.
-
Page seven has made its entrance and a fine one it was.
-
It was 3.75 miles.
Round trip? It is a little less than that when we walk to the market.
-
I only went up there to buy feta cheese.
The problem with walking to the market, making sure we don't have to carry too much home.

I don't use trackpads.

Hello, everyone.
-
Happy birthday and recovery vibes to DR WFO.
-
I went to acupuncture today, then stopped at Trader Joe's, which surprised me as it wasn't mobbed. Lots of things were sold out, though.
-
Continued recovery vibes to John G.
-
Feel better vibes to DRs Chas and Singdaw. Sing, do you still have Covid?
-
The Good House was directed by people who loved the book too much. There’s too much narration. But you can’t beat Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline.

Hello, Jeanne.

I resolved my kitchen quandary by deciding to make only a half batch of pecan snowball cookies.

Yes, but not entirely. It’s about an alcoholic who has to learn to ask for help.
-
Some of it is funny. Some of it, filmed in Nova Scotia, is gorgeous.

Starting Black Nativity. In just a few short scenes, Jennifer Hudson reveals why she is an EGOT.

I don't know, DR Jeanne. I need to test again.

We re-watched Knives Out tonight, to refresh our memory, so will follow it with Glass Onion tomorrow.

And, of course, listen to the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols from King's College, Cambridge.

Oh, my!
-
Finishing up The Glass Onion. While I didn't love Knives Out (I enjoyed it, certainly), this isn't as good - it just takes way too long for the first reveal. Anyway, I think there's about twenty minutes left.
-
Page eight has made its entrance.
-
Page nine is waiting in the wings.
-
As am I.
-
Just prepared the garlic for chopping and mincing, which I'll do as soon as the movie is over. Then I'll start cleaning the home environment - I already got the book room looking spiffy. Living room is always clean, den has tons of movies to put away, at least temporarily, and the bedroom is fine.
-
Back to The Glass Onion. I'll be slicing and dicing the actual onion shortly.
-
We re-watched Knives Out tonight, to refresh our memory, so will follow it with Glass Onion tomorrow.
I haven't seen Knives Out, yet. I do have it from the library, so hopefully I'll take the time to actually watch it.
-
JMCC is going well.

We have about 50 people here...although another nine tickets had been purchased, but they didn't show up. :-\

A Rod Serling Christmas Carol.

-
Merry Christmas Eve Eve.
-
I spent several hours yesterday afternoon and evening going through HHW.com archives researching some of my Christmas trip posts from previous years.
Quite a revelation, I must say. Whatever happened to me, anyway? I used to do stuff and report it here.
-
Happy Birthday, William Orr.
I am certain many here would love for you to resume posting.
-
It is COLD here in Johnston SC.
It's currently 15 degrees. Low should be around 13.
Wind chill will be about 8.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrr!

I watched "Glass Onion" on Netflix today...TWICE.
I enjoyed it, although it is not, IMO, in the same league as "Knives Out", which felt fresher, more detailed and better plotted.
I "suspected" the killer right off the bat but allowed myself to veer away from it as the story progressed.
Ed Norton was very good, I thought, as was the actress who plays "Andie Brand".
Is it just me, or??? Kate Hudson seems to be giving performances as if she were imitating her mom. I have felt this about some of her other performances, too.

All wrapped up for Christmas, I see. No bow?
-
No bow. Sadly not very festive.
-
The Blu and Ray player has decided to play a Blu Ray disc. So, I will now watch Vincent Price in The Tomb of Ligeia. Robert Towne script. Roger Corman produced and directed.
-
Tomorrow brings Chinese hot pot for lunch.
-
Should be a fun celebration.
-
I somehow managed to make two tarts today.
-
I’ll take one to lunch, if I can get it out of the pan.
-
Page nine is on the horizon.
-
But we have a little work to get there.
-
Listened to A Broadway Christmas. Alays puts me in the mood.
-
I like every single cut on the album.
-
One more…
-
Nine!

I spent several hours yesterday afternoon and evening going through HHW.com archives researching some of my Christmas trip posts from previous years.
Quite a revelation, I must say. Whatever happened to me, anyway? I used to do stuff and report it here.
Ron, I always enjoyed your stories from your Christmas trips home.
Speaking for myself, I know that Covid diminished my desire to get out and about. It isn't even about getting sick, I just don't want to be around a lot of people.

Hi, John G.
Here's a question for you: I saw KNIVES OUT, found it so-so, and don't remember much of it. Do I need to rewatch it to watch THE GLASS ONION?
-
I also head this piece on the radio, Alfred Reed’s Russian Christmas Songs. Quite lovely.

Someone else will have to answer. I haven’t seen it yet.

I agree about not wanting to be around people.

Maybe Sing or BK or Ron can answer my question tomorrow.
-
good night.

Finished with my viewing. No, not as good as Knives Out in any way. And it's twenty minutes too long at two hours and fifteen minutes. Yes, I'm going to say the same about Kate Hudson - totally channeling mom. Norton is fine, Craig is fine, but the others are just average, with the exception of Janelle Monae, who simply walks away with the film. To show you just how stupid Netflix is, they paid 469 MILLION for two sequels. Sorry, folks, that kind of stupidity will put them in the toilet and leave them there.
-
It's too convoluted for its own good, and then just gets silly at the end in its desire to turn into a big effects-laden thing. It's clear Rian Johnson wants an Agatha Christie feel for these, but he's not Agatha Christie. He also clearly loves The Last of Sheila.

Slicing, dicing, mincing, and chopping is done.

A lull?
-
Is that what we're having?
-
A lull?
-
Good night, all.
-
Love the brace, John.

I didn’t really enjoy KNIVES OUT, maybe I need to watch it again. I haven’t finished the GLASS ONION yet but so far I’m really enjoying it.
-
I should’ve figured I’d be the only one here that enjoyed it.
-
I didn’t leave the house today. The ice outside look bad enough I didn’t want to risk it.
-
They save it by tomorrow afternoon all of the ice should be gone. Not that I’m going anywhere.

I hope George is having a safe drive home from the theater tonight. And I hope he didn’t stop somewhere and have dinner again or a snack on his way home.

No, pug's husband Marko and I stayed late after the show so that I could write a reimbursement check (from TAO) for material that was purchased for the show.
