Title: THE ORGANIZED MAN
Post by: bk on July 11, 2005, 12:02:45 AM
Well, you've read the notes, you were organized whilst reading the notes, you are ready to discuss your organizational prowess, and now it is time for you to post until the Organized Cows come home.

People who are indeed totally organized are compensating for their lack of intelligence and creativity.
That's a believe based on no research at all. But I wold like to believe it's true. If I ever get anywhere near "organized" I don't panic because I know such organization will be very short lived.

I try to organise my record and Cd collection but it doesn't last for too long.

BTW DR George "Scared Stiff" was a Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis movie with Carmen Miranda and cameos by Crosby and Hope.

I am never as organized as I'd like to be.  For instance, early yesterday, I went to lunch with a friend of mine and afterwards I went to a local (and locally owned) record (CD) store called Rainy Day Records.  Whilst I was there, I bought the recently released, 2-CD DRG release of the complete soundtrack to "The Young Girls Of Rochefort (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0008191GK/qid=1121066797/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_ur_1/104-3560251-9029514?v=glance&s=music&n=507846)."  I brought this and the 2-CD soundtrack to "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" that I already owned over to my sister's house.  At some point, I came home and then went back for dinner (our parents came over), and when I came home afterwards, I cannot find either of those CDs!  I have looked everywhere that I can think of here at my house, and I didn't notice them anywhere at my sister's.  That's how un-organized I am. :P

AND I'm also looking for a couple of CDs by The Manhattan Transfer (for DR Tomovoz) and I can't find them!  I know I had them yesterday, but they are no where to be found!  AARRGGHH!! >:(

JMK said yesterday, in regards to the Tacoma bathroom door fiasco...

Quote
If you are ever stuck in a room again, a quick and easy solution is to pull the pins out of the hinges and simply remove the door.

Well, I made that suggestion, but the hinges were on Ann's side of the door and she was unable to release the pin.  The latch is now taped so that neither of us will be trapped again!

Good morning, all!  I'm office sitting today, so I'm back to Toyland, whether or not I want to be there.  Pur office manager is in North Carolina, our music prep supervisor is in San Francisco, Mr Murray is in Westchester, and I will be sitting in the AC awaiting the cleaning man.  I've got plenty of projects to work on, but Monday ios usually my GOLDEN APPLE Tams-Witmark day.  I feel very disorganized.

So, to answer the TOD:  I need to win the lottery, get a bigger apartment and hire an assistant to organize my life and environment.  That, I fear, will be a cold day in hell.

DRTomovoz, when I was a kid I loved Martin & Lewis, especially SCARED STIFF, but I think I now prefer THE GHOST BREAKERS.  When, oh, when will Hope's CAT AND THE CANARY land on DVD?  I'm also partial to SHAUN OF THE DEAD.

I remember a Pineapple Diet, only you make the Pineapple Diet Day  in which you can eat Pineapples as much as you like, but ONLY pineapples you’re allowed to have for the day.  They are effective for intestinal disorders and you’ll keep your stomach clean. Good for health and for diet. “Kill two birds with one stone”, right?

I have been employed occasionally to organize other people, but I'm not very good at organizing myself.  My traditional method of "Don't touch the pile on the desk; I can find anything I want." is not as effective as it used to be.   I don't know if it''s because the pile is bigger; I have less of a brain, or if the world is just more complicated, but I don't have the handle on it I used to have.

I'm still on yesterday's word.  I love to frappe across the lake in winter.

Here is the post I planned to write first.

I can figure out no reason why I dreamed this but it happened just before  the alarm woke me up.

I dreamed last night....

that I was doing the show WICKED. I was playing the Wizard. It was rehearsing in a large theater. Don't remember who the actors were but the show was being directed by Bernadette Peters. Before we started I excuse myself to go to the bathroom. Found the bathroom and inside there was an arcade. Went into a stall and couldn't pee straight. Then the alarm woke me up and then I went to go to my own bathroom.

Well WICKED is far from my favorite show. I have never made it through the recording all though I have tried several times. Now why I would play the Wizard I have no idea and no idea why my brain chose Bernadette Peters as director of the show and this must have been an older version of her because she was way too young looking.

TOD:  I could never be accused of being The Organized Man, but I have been putting a few pieces of advice to play to keep my life in some sense of order.  The number one practice for me has been to get rid of clutter and to prevent it from forming in the first place.  My mantra has been "If it hasn't been touched in six months to a year, out it goes."  Magazines are judiciously bought, read and dispatched in the following week's recyclables.  Likewise with mail--sorted as soon as I get in the door and the junk mail goes right into the shredder.  And I no longer save boxes--if I want storage containers I'll go out and buy them.
Title: Re:THE ORGANIZED MAN
Post by: Ben on July 11, 2005, 06:45:29 AM
I am what some may call, too organized. I think it comes from living in a rather unorganized home as a child. I'm sure the reason I'm either early or absolutely on time (I am rarely, if ever, late) is because my mother was notoriously late. I think my on-time fetish is a reaction to her being late. The same can be said for my being organized. Our home was, until after I moved out, fairly cluttered and disorganized (except for my hideaway, my own bedroom). I loathe, detest and abominate clutter and can't live with it. I certainly have things that I have not looked at in years but they are carefully put away in a box under the bed and I know where they are. I am a believer in "a place for everything and everything in its place". My CDs are organized, for cast recordings, by show title. Soundtracks are separate, also organized by title. I don't separate the other CDs so much although they are organized by last name of the performer, Kaye Ballard is in the Bs, Eileen Farrell in the Fs, etc.. My records are organized by title, if a show or movie and last name if a performer. As those who have been to our apartment can attest, we make very good use of the space. I guess the "system" if there is one, is, if you buy something new, when you are done with it, put it away in a specific place. If you listen to a CD, when you're done PUT IT AWAY. Wash the dishes and PUT THEM AWAY. When I come home from work I change my clothes and as I'm changing, if something needs to be washed it goes in the hamper or I hang it up as it's in my hand. Why throw it down and allow a pile of clothes to build up. When I finish a project at work, the file I'm working on gets filed away. I do not hang on to old e-mails unless they contain important information, especially those silly e-mails where someone doesn't need to respond but does anyway saying something like "thanks" My desk at the office (and at home) is neat and orderly and I can find anything I need quickly and easily.

Throw out clutter. As others have said, if you haven't looked at it or read it or touched it in six months or longer, unless it's an important paper that should be filed, GET RID OF IT!!! If you haven't touched something in six months or more, you don't need it, most likely.

I sound very teacher-like and perhaps holier-than-thou, but that's not my intention. It's just the way I am. This is getting too long so I shall now return to work.

Later,

Good Morning!

Another sleepy morning... still.  I had planned to get up earlier - when Steve left for work - but I did not.  Then came 9:00... then 9:30... Then finally around 9:45, I put my feet on the floor.

...And now I'm trying to organize my upcoming day...
Title: Re:THE ORGANIZED MAN

As for being organized...

I go through phases.  There are times when I'm anal retentive to a fault - like when I label my spice containers with the dates when I bought them and when I first opened them - and then there are times when I just let things happen, let them be... "Oh, I should have thrown this bottle of oregano out two years ago..."

I don't like things looking unkempt and slobbish, but there are some times when various piles build up on the floor, on the desk, etc.  However, the piles are usually very organized.  In other words, I can usually organize my dis-organization.

And speaking of being organized...

I've "decided" that I'd spend three to four hours in my storage unit today.  I had "illusions" that I would hit the U-haul place first thing when they opened this morning, and stay until they kicked me out at closing...  Then I realized that that illusion would most likely drive me crazy and/or to drink.  And at least with a time limit involved, it will help me to focus my "mission" today.

Well, that's enough of my personal play by play for today...  Except...

I need to get some breakfast/brunch, run by the post office, run by the bank, and then head over to my storage place.

Who knows?  Maybe I'll find a box with the Stages stuff in it.

;)

Laters...

Removing the hinges is not always easy, particularly on older, heavier doors or doors that have been sloppily painted so that paint has coated the hinges. What happened to Jed and Ann happened to a friend of mine when I was over once, and I had to use a mallet and chisel to remove the hinges.

Removing the hinges from our bathroom door would require the same kind of effort as Rodzinksi put out. The paint is old and there are layers and layers of it.

I'm not as organized as I'd like to be, which I attribute to the fact that we've lived in the same place for 17 years now.  Until we moved into this house, I'd moved (on average) about every 3-4 years, shedding "stuff" each time.  It's amazing how much a family of 3 accumulates over 17 years.  We have one extra bedroom upstairs that's like an archaeological site - the top layer is Rob's, the next is mine, etc.  Someday, DH Richard and I will downsize and probably wonder why we kept all this stuff for so long!

On a day to day basis, though, I think I'm pretty organized.  Like DR Ben, I don't like being late.  DH Richard and I "do calendars" about once  a week, to make sure we have each other's schedules and mutual commitments straight.

The cat thing is not going well so far. Although patience is key. We tried to introduce the two without a barrier yesterday, and mild-mannered Killbot went loco and the fur literally flew. It's hard to see your pet go to its basest wild instincts like that. So Walty has been hiding out under the bed. We closed the door and went out to buy a baby gate and when we came back, Killbot had somehow opened that door. This door is hard to open even for a human! So it was a scary moment, but there were no signs of a battle. I built a partition using the baby gate and some storage container lids. Killbot has taken a siege mentality and broke through or got over my early attempts. She really wants in there. The problem with the "safety room" concept is, in a two-bedroom apt. the native cat feels like they are losing a big chunk of their territory. I don't want Walty to feel under siege, and I don't want Killbot to resent not being able to get in there. My hope is that their better natures will prevail. It takes time.

I have always tried to be as organized as I could possibly be. For years, I was holding down two jobs (teaching and writing film criticism) plus doing theater on the side, and without some organization, I would have been lost.

I am a list maker. And I keep the lists of things I need to remember in places where that aprticular list is important. At school, I had a list of things that had to get done on my desk so I'd see them and do them.

At home, I have a shopping list by the refrigerator to write down things that I'm running out of or need to buy. At my downstairs desk at home is a list of DVD/CDs I want to be on the lookout for. At my upstairs desk is a list of writing chores, reviews, etc. that need my attention.

Without these lists, I would be in a total quandry.

Meant to mention that I also have an appointment calendar on my downstairs desk where every important date I need to remember is written. Otherwise, I would remember nothing.

The invention of phones with call directories in them was a godsend.

BK asked about the touring HAIRSPORAY cast. Link is being played by Serge Kushnier, I'm assuming the brother of Jeremy Kushnier who played the Broadway lead in FOOTLOOSE a few seasons ago. He was a very dynamic dancer (I'm assuming these brothers were in dancing school at young ages) and worked his tail off in the dance sequences. He had a very pop crooner kind of voice, sort of Frankie Valli-ish in tone without all the falsetto. I was sad that he didn't get a bigger ovation at the close for he really threw himself into the show more than any other performer.

Edna was J. P. Dougherty who was Harvey nderstudy for 2 1/2 years. I'm assuming he never got to go on during that time, but he was a "slightly" more melodic voice than Harvey while retaining some of Harvey's raspy timbre.

The best male voice in the show was Corny Collins played by Paul McQuillan. I was very impressed with his singing, and the touring Wilbur Turnblad Stephen DeRosa was also an excellent singer.

Tracy, of course, is a powerhouse role, and my hat was off to Keala Settle for not only her strong, strong vocals but also for the endless energy she brought to the show. This must be as killer a leading role as Mama Rose in GYPSY.

I am very organized.  Unfortunately my DS is not.  Jane and Keith and Betsy and I have discussed this, as evidently they share the same symbiotic relationship.  The key, I think anyway, is to start somewhere (anywhere) in getting stuff in order and do not stop until that area is finished.  Then move on to the next.  Also be ruthless in throwing stuff away.

Tomovoz:  First of all, I would mightily suggest a sleeper for your whole trip.  The standard sleepers are not much more expensive than coach, plus you get free meals and, especially on the Coast Starlight, all the "perks" of the private cars, which, as I told you yesterday, are quite exquisite.  Sadly, the Empire Builder (the main east-west line) is in pretty bad shape and does not have the "movie" car on the refurbished dining car that the Coast Starlight has.

On the west coast, I'd plan on stopping (after L.A., of course) at:  San Francisco, Ashland, Salem (maybe--MB may have more to say, personally I don't think there's that much to see other than the Capitol), Portland, Seattle and Vancouver B.C. (if you're going that far north).

I HAD to see HAIRSPRAY because I could not get decent seats during the previous NYC trips when I could have fit it in. There are plenty of seats there now, but newer shows take precidence.

And I didn't mention the sensational voices of the Dynamites and Motormouth Maybelle, all of whom brought down the house. They got HUGE ovations at curtain call.

Back on the organizational front. I also have chores organized. For example, rather than taking hours on one day to clean my house each week, I clean one room a day that takes about 10-25 minutes (depending on the room). Monday, for example, is the dining room. Tuesday is the living room, etc. The house stays clean and I have more time to fit in other things during each day. I give myself Saturday off from chores.

BK:  Being a Virgo, I have no idea what possible problems folks could have with organization.  :D

(Okay, stop laughing).  My personal bent is to never bite off more than I'm willing to chew.  This, of course, does not lend itself to the type of schedule you maintain.

But I decided, when I turned 40, that I was not going to allow myself to be stretched in several different directions at once.  Ultimately, only I was aware of/impressed with my exertions...and many I was helping out never acknowledged either thanks or credited me.

I was taken for granted once (well, often, actually) too often.  That won't happen if I don't let it happen, so now I don't, except for folks I truly know well and for whom I'd do anything.

If I don't feel like doing something not absolutely vital to my survival, or the survival of my cat, I simply don't do it.  I get around to the necessities.  And even then, my Virgo nature kicks into gear and lets me do things so thoroughly that I don't have to think about them for some good time afterward.

It's either too cool to be summer or hotter than blue blazes.

We've had one weird "summer," thus far.

I got in early and walked to the other side of Lake Merritt  (roughly a half mile both ways), just for the heck of it.  It felt good and I'm more awake than normal.

I'm also ravenous, which rather kills the calorie burn I was going for.

"Organized"  I am afraid I am unfamilar with this word

hmmm let me check the dictionary:

"or·gan·ized [ áwrgə nzd ]

adjective

1. efficient: working in a systematic and efficient way
a motivated and organized self-starter

2. large-scale: existing on a large scale and involving the systematic coordination of many different considerations"

Nope, still not ringing any bells... I guess I am the disorganized Mann

The Disney version of the show is MILES ahead of John Huston's inept big screen version, and is fairly faithful to the stage version.

But the stage version is definitely the one to see. There are entertaining numbers which haven't been in either filmed version of the musical.

DR George:  To answer your question from last night, HAIRSPRAY can ONLY cast men in the role because it is dictated as such in John Waters contract.  He wouldn't allow the musical to be made unless that was a stipulation.

Well, I[/i] certainly understand that, but how can I explain why John Waters would make that stipulation for the show in the first place?...if it's possible.

The laserdisc version of the remastered 1776 contains the entire show, music and dialogue, but the theatrical version wasn't that version so we can't count it.

DR Tom, wow that sounds like a lot of train travelling!  Especially from Vancouver to Toronto. That is very far.  Re: going from NYC to Montreal, I know they have trains, but i have never heard of anybody go from one to the other by train (usually car or bus, since it only takes 6 hours).  I think I once looked into going by train, but it took much longer with many stops.

Anyhow, good luck with your trip.

Ron, I did not end up going to see WAR OF THE WORLDS this weekend. I may go another time, however.

In fact I did not get anything from Friday's list watched except 1/2 of the Arch Hall Jr. movie THE NASTY RABBIT. I will try to finish that up tonight.

DR Matt H:  THere is generally always something different between film and stage versions of a musical, but I think "The Music Man" is right up there as among the most faithful.

As for "1776", there simply isn't any logical reason for them to have cut the "Cool, Cool Considerate Men" number from the final theatrical cut.  It's one of the highlights of the score...and now that it's back on the DVD, the film seems enough, finally.  I grant you, there are some nice touches on the LD made up from things left on the cutting room floor -- and there are those out there who believe every single shot made ought to be included.

I'm content with the DVD.

I keep "meaning" to see "Return of the Sith" and "Batman Begins"...but both keep getting postponed, too.

I am rather perplexed at my decision to see "The War of the Worlds" when both those other films were playing at the same multiplex.

I guess it was the "newness" of it...and some of the positive reviews I'd seen.

Sorry MBarnum. But to know the complete Arch Hall, one must endure THE NASTY RABBIT, or as it is actually called in the credits, SPIES AU GO GO.

There is only one reason to watch this, aside from the credits being hand painted on plywood rabbits, and that is the cute girl who plays Arch's love interest. I find her adorable.

My traditional method of "Don't touch the pile on the desk; I can find anything I want." is not as effective as it used to be.   I don't know if it''s because the pile is bigger; I have less of a brain, or if the world is just more complicated, but I don't have the handle on it I used to have.

I have to agree with you there, DR Rodzinski...she is a real cutie! I haven't looked her up on the IMDB yet to see if this movie stopped her budding career in it's tracks...but I suspect it didn't help it any.

The first half of the movie seems to have very little Arch Hall Jr. in it....much to my disappointment, as I am beginning to find that I really do like Arch Hall Jr. as a performer.

I still need to watch his western...DEADWOOD '67 and THE CHOPPERS. Then I will have seen 'em all.

From Tomovoz:

Quote
Not that there is anyone to answer the question or comment, but we thinking about using Amtrak next year in the USA. Maybe a pass so that we can travel from LA  to SF and eventually to Seatle. From Seattle to Vancouver and across to Toronto to New York. We figure we can make good use of the 30 day pass available to non North American residents.
any comment and thoughts on the proposal would be appreciated - particularly the stopping off points.

When next year?  We just made tentative plans to travel with friends.

We have considered taking the train but the station just isn’t convenient for us.  Unless the time schedule has changed the Northbound train ride through the most beautiful portions of California is at night and completely misses views of Mt. Shasta.

I looked at the time schedule from SF, leaving at 9PM, arriving in Klamath Falls at
8:15 AM.  Then there is a bus to Ashland, which I can’t believe takes over 2 hours as listed.  If you come to Ashland we will pick you up at the train station.  The road in the morning should be pretty where at night it can be a bit scary.

From Klamath Falls the train leaves at 8:25, arriving in Portland at 3:40PM.  That should be a beautiful ride.  The Portland train station is near the Pearl District, the wonderful area where Bryan lives.

It would be fun to see Arch Hall and the Archers perform sometime...I would actually get a kick out of meeting the guy.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from lunch, the post office, the bank and my storage unit.  I went ahead and re-organized some of the boxes in my storage unit, as well putting a couple of them in my car to take back up to Fairfax tonight.

After checking out most of the contents of the various boxes-o-stuff, my level of "anxiety" over just how much stuff I have/want/need to go through has lessened greatly.  I also just realized that there was nothing I must attend to over the next couple of days.  Yes, I still want to go through the boxes and purge and organize things, but I don't have to get that all done before heading up to NYC on Friday.  Yes, it would have been nice to get that stuff all done, but there's also no harm in letting that stuff sit for a few more weeks, if not months.

-And since I won't be moving all my stuff out of storage and up to NYC until later, well...

So, I'm back at Steve's, and I've brought three boxes-o-stuff up with me.  I should be able to go through those boxes before heading back up to Fairfax tonight.

As they say in The Full Monty... LET IT GO!

DR MattH - Glad to hear you enjoyed Hairspray.  That company starts at the Kennedy Center on Wednesday.

They really did a nice job with the touring production.  From what I could when I saw it in LA, they really didn't make that many changes to the physical production from the original Broadway version.  I think the only thing I noticed that was missing, was the walkway around the orchestra pit.  -I know there's a technical term for that, but I can't think of what it is right now.  Anyone...??

The section in "You Did It" was not added, it was always in the song.  I believe it was removed in tryouts when Rex Harrison screwed it up.  Perhaps Alan Lerner wanted it back and Mr Harrison was finally confident enough to perform it?

In direct opposition to Ben's story, I am sloppy and disorganized because I grew up in a house that was more like a museum than a home. Nothing could be out of place - no footprints on the carpets, even - so now I just let things go in secret defiance against my mom and her obsession with cleanliness. Of course, the only person I'm really hurting is myself that way, but it gives me some sort of personal satisfaction. :D

Back from errands - bank, post office (DR TCB, watch for a package!), and grocery store.  I just made a batch of Peanut Crisp Bars, my version of Rice Krispy treats that are thin, sticky, and frosted with a penuche-type icing.  After sampling the icing, I need now to have a cup of black coffee to get rid of the sweetness.

When Richard and Rob return from school, I'll fix a nice dinner of baked tilapia, Spanish rice, green beans, sourdough bread, and, for dessert, Peanut Crisp Bars.

'til they get here, back to Six Feet Under, season 3.

DR Ron, I am very, very content with the DVD of '1776' as it now stands. "Cool Men" is back where it should be and the beautiful beginning strains of "He Plays the Violin" are also there with Blythe Danner at her loveliest and most beguiling. Everytime I try to use my RecordNow software (which is what I normally used for making copies of CDs), it keeps trying to reinstall itself and then gets and error message....I know not why.

Oddly enough, when ever I try to run my AOL adware/spyware buster software it also causes RecordNow to start running a reinstall...I don't know...maybe there is a connection.

One box down - more or less... Only so many more to go - more or less...

:-\

I just picked a box at random to start going through.  It was from 1999...

-Boy, did Steve and I have a good time - at least from the receipts - during the week we vacationed at Disneyworld that June!  And many good meals too - The Brown Derby, Victoria & Albert's, etc.

...And lots of cards from Steve too... (cue the violins)

;)

DR divarobbie - How did your tech go?  And for what show were you in tech for?
Title: Re:THE ORGANIZED MAN
Post by: divarobbie on July 11, 2005, 02:35:05 PM
Well, I[/i] certainly understand that, but how can I explain why John Waters would make that stipulation for the show in the first place?...if it's possible.

He wrote the role (as with most of his films) for his dear friend, the drag queen Divine.  Since it played that way in the film, he wanted it to be retained for the stage.

It was, indeed the tech from hell.  I'm in an evening of one-acts (a lot of Durang... I'm doing his FUNERAL PARLOR, among others).  Sad.  Most of the actors are still stumbling on lines, and its got to be fast to be funny.  The pacing at this point is deadly.  We open Thursday.  We'll see.

Repeat after me:

Jose will be in NYC this weekend.
Jose will be in NYC this weekend.

-However, it does look like I'll be arriving Saturday morning instead of Friday morning as originally planned...

Hmm...

I'd be lying if I said I was even the least bit organized. I still haven't found that bowl of spaghetti I lost track of in November.

I can usually find what I'm looking for, though, because I classify all my stuff into one of two categories: important stuff and not important stuff. The important stuff (the TV remote, laptop computer, chocolate stash, Legos, etc...) is all on or near my futon. All the not important stuff (school textbooks, for example) is somewhere in the rest of my room.

Organization...hm, that's really something I'm planning to do in the fall when I have more time on my hands.  Right now, I settle for letting everything pile up during the week and then sort through it on the weekends.  Oh and about once a month I gather all of Rodzinski's loose papers, CDs and other assorted tchotchkies (sp?) into a shopping bag and assign him the task of sorting them out.
Title: Re:THE ORGANIZED MAN
Post by: Tomovoz on July 11, 2005, 03:53:26 PM
I sometimes use the "Shopping bag" method - and consequently end up with a collection of shopping bags filled with accounts, receipts, bank statements etc - all of which need to be sorted out at taxation time!  My diary is usually used for the first few week of the year - then I can't find it.  The calendar is much more useful. At least that tends to stay in the one place.
Of course  DR TPunk did not say if DR Rodzinski actually carried out the assigned task!

Hi all!    Sorry have been E & T but we had company this weekend.  Maybe you heard about him?  His name was Dennis.

He left quite a mess with little branches/twigs/leaves in the yard but didn’t do any serious damage.  Just a “party and go” kinda guy.  He did keep me up quite late there for a night or two so I am still a bit tired.

I hope everyone else came through the weekend as well as we did.

Thank you, DR Jane for posting for me.   :)

My Chitty tickets arrived today.  I only waited a day or two to order them and dang if I didn’t get pushed back to section B.  I think it will be ok.   At least I hope so.

I loved those "kiddie"songs

Fare thee well
Fare thee well
Fare thee well my darlin' hair
I want a good shampoo with some icky, sticky goo
While sittin' in the barber chair!

My daddy don't need a haircut at all
While sittin' in the barber chair
Because he's as bald as a billard ball
And his hair just isn't there!

I can't remember the rest of the song.

Just relaxing before being on my way to tonight's reading.

I just put a bunch of Jerry Goldsmith tracks in my iPod, including the glorious original tracks (as opposed to the dreadful rerecording) of Islands in the Stream - and no, Virginia, no one has these tracks but me.  There was an LP boot of dubious and horrid sound, and a bootleg CD was made from that, but it sucks.  Mine is right off the master tapes.  I tried to license the score for Varese a few years after the film's release, but it was too pricey.  But, while I had the tapes I made a gorgeous 15ips copy for myself.  I brought them to the studio one day when recording something a few years ago and transferred them to both CDR and DAT.

I often wonder how many young folks know certain songs as advertising jingles without ever suspecting their origins as great music.

How many people think of "Rhapsody in Blue" as the American Airlines Theme?

A shame of my youth was knowing the song as "Put on a Windex Shine" before knowing of the song "Put on a Happy Face". That's the risk of selling songs for jingle use, I guess.

Carroll Baker just finished strutting her stuff in THE CARPETBAGGERS on TCM to a great Elmer Bernstein score - wearing slinky and shiny Edith Head clothes - hair by Nellie Manley and makeup by Wally Westmore.

For me, the movie doesn't recover from the loss of her character - it's all downhill from there.  Especially Martha Hyer as a high class you-know-what as the pressbook called her.

I have a new email "looney" (an affectionate term) insisting she's in "World Premiere," the Barrymore/Farmer film from 1941.  I've never heard of her, and Farmer and Virginia Dale are the only credited females in the cast.  IMDb has one Myra Nelson credit, as an extra (not for this film).

THE OPPOSITE SEX was indeed a superior print of the movie than the one used for the laserdisc transfer, so I made the DVD copy of it. It has the same stereo surround of the laserdisc, so that's a nice extra. Metrocolor was still not gloriously deep or vibrant, but it was still more colorful than the pale laserdisc.

There were a couple of satellite transmission problems duing the dull "Yellow Gold" number, so it's not a perfect print, but it'll do just fine when I have a hankering for this guilty pleasure.

Dont know from Myra Nelson, DRJMK.  Maybe she is related to Frances' son in New York City who used to write to you.

Or maybe it's just another of Jason's personalities from the Tribute Site.

I see that "Annie" is coming to San Francisco in late August and playing through mid-October.  John Schuck is Daddy Warbucks.

I've never seen the complete show...just the awful movie, and the wonderful, but incomplete (and oddly cast) Disney TV version.

I hope this is the complete show.

I saw John Schuck play Daddy Warbucks about twenty-five years ago, and he was wonderful in the role.  i had a nice chat with him after the show, and he seemed to be a very nice man.

I am also a Virgo (DR JOSE and I share an August 26 natal day) - so just read his posts, DR RLP's post, and DR BEN's post.  I do all of these things as well.  Alphabetical, by type and author, EVERYTHING.  The computer is a great boon to keeping addresses, dates, and PEOPLE organized.

I also have a dry erase board that I write Things To Do in the appropriate square.

Sadly, I missed that organizational skill by just three days.  Well, at least, now I have an excuse.

No doubt you too will be playing Daddy Warbuck 25 years from  now TCB. Or Scrooge.

Hugh Jackman and Ewan Mc Gregor have signed on for the film of Sunset Boulevard to be released in Dec 07.  I think Hugh is to play Norma.

(OzDerek just provided that information.)
