Well, you've read the notes, some of the notes were in Latvian, and now it is time for you to post until the Latvian cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FRABJOUS!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I am glad to know who Spartacus is.
-
The things you learn at HHW!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well. Stella, who's very bossy about wanting a cuddle, came by several times just after midnight. It got quite chilly around 3:00, and Thatch joined Annabelle and me. Around 4:00, Annabelle crawled under the blankets where she then claimed 2/3 of the bed for her comfort, and I tried to sleep wile Tom Paxton's "Marvelous Toy" kept running through my head.
-
My days today and tomorrow are tied up with the ballet. I have an Amazon Fresh delivery showing up some time this morning.
-
Something seems to be seriously amiss. I didn't win 1.3 billion dollars last night.
-
I blame Tiler Peck for my not buying a ticket.
-
Wouldn't it be funny if Tiler Peck ever Googled herself and found that she is a regular on HHW?
-
I like this album a lot. First off, you have the incomparable Robert Shaw leading the choir (and orchestra). You've got the boisterous and infectious Walton Belshazzar's Feast, and the lovely Bernstein Missa Brevis, an adaption of his choruses from his incidental music to "The Lark." The album is on iTunes.
-
"The Lark" music was incidental music Bernstein composed to accompany Jean Anouilh's 1952 play based on the trial and execution of Joan of Arc.
-
There were choruses in French and in Latin.
-
For the Missa Brevis, he retrofitted the music with the text of the Mass.
-
As opposed to Bernstein's other setting of Mass.
-

My goodness, the first paragraph of today's Notes had me grinning with glee and - dare I say - laughing out loud. I don't know how you say that in Latvian.
-
Bernstein's score for The Lark was the impetus for Hellman to suggest a musical treatment of Voltaire's Candide. I have this this recording of all the choruses for The Lark, which I prefer to the faux-missa brevis. The melody for the soldier's chorus may be an old French folk song. The same tune was used in Louis Ganne's early 20th century opera comique, Hans le Joueur de flûte.
The soldier's chorus is at 3:39 on this recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SscepL0FTQ
-
That is interesting! Thank you, DR elmore3003.
-
It's funny that on that recording, Reich's 'Clapping Music' is programmed right next to Bernstein's 'Spring Song,' which shares an almost identical rhythmic motive.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I haven’t the face
Of her grace, Ina Clare.
But I’ve still got my health,
So what do I care?
-
I just had to get that off my chest.
-
Wordle and Phoodle in 5.
-
I slept fairly well.
-
But i need to heat the hand before I can start the day.
-
Congratulations on your Tony nomination, BK.
-
Two!
-
It’s especially wonderful being nominated for a show that never played Broadway.
-
Hand warmed. Off to face the day.
-
https://www.southernliving.com/orange-chess-pie-with-cranberry-gelee-6832961
I’ll leave you with pie.
-
Do you heat a hand in a hand heater?
-
Norwegian wood is like ordinary wood, but more afjordable.
-
That pie is certainly droolworthy.
-
Well, at least we're clear then.
-
For those so inclined, "Notes on Copies" is a fun FB page to follow.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm pretty good about turning the thermostat down a little for sleeping, but I barely moved it last night and I woke up way too hot in the middle of the night. (Note to self.)
-
Break legs vibes for BK & Co. tonight!
-
Thanks for reminding me, DR ChasSmith...
~~~REHEARSAL, SOUND CHECK, & SHOW VIBES~~~ today for BK & Company!!!!!!!
-
~~~WRITING VIBES~~~ as well.....
-
Break legs vibes for BK & Co. tonight!
~~~SUPER DITTO!!~~~
Well, at least we're clear then.
Looks like something I'd write. :D
-
How much do you want to bet that......you know.....
-
Rehearsal and writing and show vibes for MR BK.
Quite a day of activity.
-
Last day for mail until Tuesday!
-
We had a very light dusting of s**w last night....but it seems to be gone now.
-
I like The Clapping Song.
-
Oh good lord…
Do I understand this correctly…
That BK and DR Jrand72 are in competition for a Tony?
-
Well, at least we're clear then.
(http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=7111.0;attach=16158)
Looks like something I'd write. :D
I’m a pretty neat note-writer during, say, the early rehearsal periods of a show. But when it gets down to the wire during performances, my big urgent cues and other reminders to myself are sometimes not much more, um, sophisticated or refined than this example. I do take pleasure in erasing or at least neatening them up later, but sheesh, I’d be embarrassed for anyone to see them.
-
We had a light dusting early this morning, which went away but now it’s flurrying again for an hour or so. It won’t amount to anything, and knock wood, we’re doing very well so far this winter. I hope this pattern continues to hold.
-
DR George, you've been submitting titles to the CastAlbum.org. Cole Porter Revisited 5 may be there but the songs are not listed.
-
Good morning.
-
Mac and cheese is done.
DR singdaw I decided to forego the Toad.
-
I will be ruthless in my Tony campaign!
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Raining again. I was hoping that wouldn't happen.
-
THREE!!!
-
DR George, you've been submitting titles to the CastAlbum.org. Cole Porter Revisited 5 may be there but the songs are not listed.
When adding a new release of an existing recording in the database, CastAlbums.org says, "If this release duplicates the track listing of another release already entered, please just enter the total # of tracks below." It looks like the Kritzerland release will have the same tracks as the original CD release, so I didn't add the same tracks. I've done that in the past, but it's a lot easier not doing that. ;)
-
I've been listening to "Sing Before Breakfast," and Gordon Goodman's beautiful rendition of "One Song" from Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs just left me in a puddle of tears. Absolutely stunning!
Well, this is curious. I went to the site to see if there were any other recordings of Cole Porter's "They Ain't Done Right By Our Nell" and the only listing for it is the Shadowland recording "Keep Your Undershirt On," but it's also on "Cole Porter Revisited 5." I can find no song listing for this CD.
-
I futzed and finessed all of yesterday's writing and even wrote a couple of new pages. I may try to write three or four more after I get home tonight but I've passed page 200 of the manuscript.
-
That's great, BK!
Interesting. I searched the title and it also had the message, "Note: this song may also appear on other recordings whose tracks have not yet been indexed." I don't know what it takes for a song to be "indexed."
Good afternoon!
Wordle: 6/6
-
Good Afternoon - the car transaction is complete and I'm a proud owner of 2005 Honda Element. So excited.
Spending the day watching football for now, then I have to go out as I have discovered that a few lights are out on the new car so I'll need to get them replaced ASAP.
Matilda is off to a good start. I really like the score, we'll have fun with it for sure. This weekend, I'll need to look at casting Dear Edwina Jr this weekend as well.
The rain is here to stay this weekend. Luckily, it's on and off so the flash flooding and things like that are not a problem this weekend. Having not had a large amount of rain in the past years, gutters are clogged and stuff so ponding is happening all over. We need the rain, however, moderation would be nice.
-
Congrats on the new car, Matthew!
-
And Break Legs with both Matilda and Dear Edwina Jr!
-
Great news, Matthew. Congratulations on the car.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
MEGA health vibes to Elmore, TCB, Vixmom, John G, and anyone else in discomfort!
May all your pains quickly dissipate.
-
I think that George Santos's resume writer could have done a better job with BK's resume than that Chapwhatever. At least Santos isn't claiming a Tony nom -- is he?
-
Vibes of health and longevity for DR Matthew's new car.
-
I slept well last night, but woke up with zero energy. I was hoping for a quiet day. Then I heard an all-too-familiar drip, drip, drip. Oh, yes, the kitchen ceiling is leaking again. This is the 6th leak and the 4th in that spot since I've lived here. You'd think they'd wise up, wouldn't you? At least if you must have a roof leak this is a convenient place to do it. It's right over the front left burner of the stove. My big soup/pasta pot can sit on the burner and catch most of the water.
-
No leak vibes for DR JEANNE.
-
DR MATTHEW we need photographic evidence of the new car.
-
When I called the manager she said she'd have to get the kitchen ceiling fixed properly -- we have just a patch in there now -- as if the ceiling problem was causing the leak. No! Fix the roof! Once you KNOW it's fixed, THEN deal with the ceiling repair. The ceiling repair has been an issue for as long as the leak has existed, which is about 10 or 11 years now.
-
Rain begone vibes for MR BK & Co.
-
Other than my predictable kitchen ceiling issue, we've had LOTS of rain, but I'm aware of no flooding in my 'hood. Much of LA is flooded, though. We need a break from the rain. Too many of us were doing rain dances.
-
No leak vibes for DR JEANNE.
thank you.
-
TTFN.
-
DR Matthew congratulations on your new car!
Oh no! At least it isn't ruining your furniture. I hope you didn't want to make soup or pasta.
Four!
-
Sorry about your leak, DR Jeanne. I know how vexing this can be. And the management's lack of urgency about it just compounds the frustration.
-
~~~DRYING VIBES~~~ for you!!!!!!
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR Matthew on the new wheels!!!!!
-
I was pleasantly surprised how many people I knew on the walking path this morning, in spite of the rain.
-
I used all of my dog treats.
-
Fortunately I remembered to refill my treat bag.
-
The rain took a break in the afternoon and we had a nice walk, and saw another of my special dogs.
-
I woke up late and had to immediately go to my chiropractor appointment.
-
I haven’t stopped all day
-
Now that's cool jazz!
-
Hope things keep improving the right way for you, DR vixmom.
-
:)
-
Love it!
-
We are going to watch ELVIS.

Since it is a long movie.....

-
Well, it's been a long day.
-
Good night, friends.

Perhaps I'll win the Powerball.

-
Oh, I forgot to ask...
-
Does anyone remember the Steve Allen program, Meeting of the Minds?
-
Famous figures from different times of history would meet over a dinner table and discuss things.
-
I think they published the scripts.
-
Oh, well. Anyway....
-
Good night, friends, again.
-
Oh, what the heck.

I loved that Steve Allen show, Singdaw. I remember one where Martin Luther was confronted with his antisemitism.
-
Back from a fun night of dancing.
-
The line dances were particularly fun, The Wobble, Boot Scootin’ Boogie and Waltz Across Texas.
-
Back home and exhausted.

Earlier today I volunteered for the Cocktail Conference power brunch.

They did! I bought two the books!

Another dish was like an Asian taco with pork and jalapeños plus vegetables served on a green onion pancake. There was also scrambled eggs that you add to the mix.

Now I’m watching Big Deal on Madonna Street. Very funny stuff.
-
I enjoyed Bob Fosse’s Big Deal, but he could never capture the manic roughness of the characters. Loretta Devine was outrageously good.
-
And his staging of Beat Me Daddy Eight to the Bar was dynamite. It just didn’t have much place in the show.

So the good news is WFO has been declared cured of pneumonia has been returned to the rehab
-
He was looking much better today
-
It’s gotten very cold here and with the cold my back has regressed a little

I was using the cane again because I was feeling a bit unsteady

Here’s a better version when they tried to include two numbers from Big Deal in Fosse:

They were two of the best three or four numbers in the show.

Leaky roof vibes for Jeanne.

Good night, all.
-

Wonderful news!
-
Back from show one - about forty people - room only holds fifty-six so that was nice. Show was going perfectly until six songs from the end when the entire sound system went kerplunk. We took a five and they tried a few things but they think the amp might be fried, so they'll get a new one in there for us tomorrow. So, troupers that we are, we did the last six songs unplugged and the kids did a fantastic job.
-
Now, get me off this damn page NOW.
-
I had a tiny Caesar at the club, so I just ordered a nice meal from the cheesecake factory.
-
It won't arrive until around ten-thirty according to the site, so I'll try to do a bit of writing.
-
I’m here!
-
Sorry, I am late.
-
My friends took me out to dinner for my birthday.
-
I should have said my friends, Sharry and Micheal!
-
We were going to leave for dinner right after the Seahawks game was over at four. Instead we sat and talked almost 7 o’clock, so every place was packed by the time we got there.
-
We planned on going to the Olive Garden for dinner, but the wait was over an hour and it was so damn noisy in that place we couldn’t think straight.
-
So, Micheal went next door to BJ’s, where the wait was only a half hour.
-
So, we ended up there.
-
I had this chicken thing with black beans, rice with feta cheese, and guacamole.
-
Then, back to my house for presents. All related to the band on the Titanic.
-
I really enjoyed the dinner. Even the feta cheese was good, after I covered it with guacamole.
-
BTW, yes, my birthday is in August. That just shows how long it has been since we have seen each other.
-
Come on George, we have to change the page.
-
We are already in trouble for being on page 6.
-
Time is running out.
-

More like your half-birthday. ;)
-
I should have said my friends, Sharry and Micheal!
Nice!

I am still full. And I am tired.

Funny thing about the feta cheese. I read on the menu that it was on there, I don’t know why I didn’t tell the waiter to change it to some other cheese like cheddar.

BJ’s also has old fashion soft drinks. Jerry had black cherry, which I tasted and it was very good. I ordered the cream soda, which was OK but not quite cream soda
-
Since I wasn’t buying, I have no idea how much they were. They were a big tall glass so I don’t think they were cheap. I will have to wait for my Social Security raise before I go and have one again.

A Small Frenzy - that's the name of my next novel, set in Latvia during the time of the twelve-hour war, a shocking bit of Latvian history that no one anywhere knows about. Of course, A Small Frenzy in Latvian is Neliela Trakosanas. And the infamous Latvian twelve-hour war was known as Divpadsmit standu Kars.
