Well, you've read the notes, the notes headed to the finish line, and now it is time for you to post until the heading to the finish line cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: APLOMB!
-
Topic of the Day: I don't know from Nordic noirs. ::)
-
Good morning, friends.
-
DR Jrand72, I hope you do try some writing.
-
DR vixmom, thank you for your care of DR WFO.
-
I hope that DR Matthew enjoyed Donna McKechnie's Sondheim show.
-
~~~CONTINUED MAJOR MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for BK!!!!!!!
-
Finished with today's writing - sixteen pages and I'm now in the final section, which will probably run about ten to fifteen pages and I think that will be it, so I might even finish today at some point.
-
I don't know from Nordic noirs, but I'm going to produce an American remake of Jeanne Dielman, and its subject will be: BK!!!!!
It will run 4 hours or so, and it will feature BK writing. And writing. Real cinema vérité stuff.
-
THIS JUST IN......
House Representative George Santos struggles with the realization that with the death of Lisa Marie Presley, he is now Elvis's sole surviving heir.
-
I just looked up cinema vérité. It doesn't mean exactly what I thought it meant. But ah well.
-
How nice it will be to read that BK's 2023 book is in the books.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I did not sleep well at all: the apartment is too warm, my right hip is so frayed that I have to be in just the right position to sleep. Otherwise, my right leg is nothing but out of control neuropathy - nothing but sharp jabbing pains, tingling, and other unpleasant twitches.
-
Thisw morning, Access-a-Ride will take me to my pharmacy, and I will go from there to my barber.
-
DR TCB, it was good to see you. I'm so sorry about your back.
-
Kitty cleanup is over. I will make the bed and wait for Access-a-Ride.
-
Good morning, all.
-
DR George: The Kindle case looks great. Maybe I missed something earlier, but I have no idea what that waiting 24 hours, etc., is all about.
(I’ve never had an actual Kindle. I just use the app on my iPad.)
-
Having just had three consecutive days in which I had to be up early to do something, it’s so great to have a normal Saturday again.
More coffee!!
-
And margaritas.
-
Apparently Steven Spielberg is producing a documentary about John Williams. I'd watch that.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Apparently Steven Spielberg is producing a documentary about John Williams. I'd watch that.
In a drum roll.
-
Nice Kindle cover, George. I hope you’re u can get it to work for you.
-
Wordle and Phoodle in 3
-
I was given plenty of lemons this week. I guess I am making lemon curd today.
-
Let’s get off this page.
-
In a drum roll.
I see what you did there. ;D
-
Onward!
-
Two.
-
Two!
-
Elmore, I hope your hip feels better today.
-
2 Two's to start page Two.
-
Pain-free vibes for all of us.
-
It must be a good omen.
-
It’s just too, too, Singdaw.
-
Elmore, I hope your hip feels better today.
DITTO!
-
It’s just too, too, Singdaw.
It is indeed.
-
DR vixmom is off getting her certified attestation notarized.
-
It’s just too, too, Singdaw.
A Cole Porter reference, for all you Les Girls fans.
-
After which she may want to file a Paypal dispute.
-
Against Tiler Peck.
-
Maybe you could make a movie of me squeezing lemons, Singdaw.
-
Les Girls
Does that translate to The Girls?
-
Don’t you love when people have ideas for you to do?
-
The world deserves to see you massage citrus, DR John G.
-
Although, will your hand cooperate at this point?
-
Les Girls
Does that translate to The Girls?
Your French is formidable.
-
Although, will your hand cooperate at this point?
I have an electric juicer.
-
You ice in the mornings, so the lemons would have to be chilled.
-
Your French is formidable.
I am pronouncing that last word in my best Frenchified way.
-
Must be Christmas. Time to unwrap the hand.
-
Are French fries Frenchified?
-
I do hope so.
-
Your French is formidable.
I am pronouncing that last word in my best Frenchified way.
Oui.
-
That wrapped hand still seems to type pretty well.
-
I am impressed.
-
I'm also on the last post of page two.
-
Three.
-
We can fill pages with this nonsense.
-
And have.
-
It took two to turn three.
-
It’s heat in the morning, ice at bight.
-
Oh, right.
-
The pain is worst in the morning because the hand is still from overnight.
-
I was trying to think of where I knew "formidable" from. Then it struck me: "A Bowler Hat."
-
Has your doctor recommended a night brace for the hand long-term, DR John G., or is that not the issue.
-
Everything we know we know from Sondheim.
-
My hands are tight in the morning, and I suspect it is because I am clenching them in my sleep.
-
Has your doctor recommended a night brace for the hand long-term, DR John G., or is that not the issue.
Six months.
-
My hands are tight in the morning, and I suspect it is because I am clenching them in my sleep.
Not around someone’s throat, I hope.
-
Now there’s a mystery plot: The Somnambulist Strangler.
-
Good morning
-
Starring Sylvia Sidney.
-
Hi, Vixmom!
-
Not around someone’s throat, I hope.
;D
-
I woke up at 6 and couldn’t get back to sleep so at 7 I finally got up and sat in the recliner where I promptly dropped off for another couple of hours
-
Vibes for our TCB
-
And vibes for John’s hand
-
DR vixmom is in da house.
-
And for Elmore’s poorly hip and leg
-
DR vixmom is in da house.
I is indeed
-
I might wander over to Wordle
-
DR vixmom, you should film a La-Z-Boy commercial.
Well I'll be.
Be what, I can't say.
Oh! I passed a millstone
But I'll be it on page Four.
-
And it didn’t even hurt!
-
CONGRATULATIONS on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament, DR vixmom!!!!!
-
You should try wearing ribbons down your back.
-
I'll bet they wouldn't hurt, either.
-
DR vixmom, you should film a La-Z-Boy commercial.
Only if they change the name to La-Z-Gal
-
Les Girls probably wear ribbons.
-
Buttons and Bows, too.
-
Accessorize.
-
If you owned a boutique, you'd have access to accessories.
-
To accessorize.
Or as Bill the Cat says, Ack.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I found this interesting
LONG ISLAND, NY, has a population of about 7.7 million in its 118 mile length from New York Harbor to its eastern terminus on the Atlantic Ocean at Montauk Point. It is about 28 miles in width from Long Island Sound on the north to the Atlantic Ocean on the south. Its western end includes the New York City boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn. When Long Island is defined it generally excludes the Queens and Brooklyn sections of New York City. Long Island's political divisions consist of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, 11 towns and 109 villages -- all with their own administrations. The area has had an historical past from the arrival of the first settlers. Here are interesting facts:
Mastic was the home of William Floyd, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Long Island's
Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk is the site of the oldest cattle ranch in America, built in 1658, and birthplace of the American cowboy
The Lighthouse at Montauk became NY's first coastal beacon in 1796.
The first radio transmission, by wireless inventor Guglielmo Marconi, was in 1901 on Fire Island Avenue in Babylon
In 1927, Charles Lindbergh took off from Roosevelt Field, as he embarked on the first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
America's first supermarket, King Kullen, started on Long Island in 1930.
Levittown, the first suburbia in the U.S., was built on Long Island in 1947.
The Lunar Module which landed men on the moon in 1969, was built on Long Island by the Grumman Corp.
The only working water mill and windmill in the US are located in the Long Island community of Water Mill.
Richard Nixon's deceased dog Checkers is buried at Long Island's Bide-a-Wee Pet Cemetery.
When the Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883, it became the first land -transport route between Long Island and mainland USA. Before that, the only way to travel between the two was by boat.
Long Island was sculpted by melted glaciers, which is why there is a clear difference between the hilly North Shore and the flat South Shore of Long Island.
Long Island is the most populated island in the United States and the
17th most populated island in the world. Interesting fact: Long Island is more populated than the entire country of Jamaica and of Ireland!
If Long Island was its own state, it would rank 12th in terms of population.
Robert Moses creation of a cars-only parkway system created the modern suburbs of Long Island and influenced a generation of engineers, architects and urban planners across the nation
The North Shore is known for its large mansions, exclusive vacationing, and rich history of its affluent citizens and architecture. The South Shore hosts more entertainment and sports venues together with Atlantic Ocean beaches such as Jones Beach.
The largest industrial park in the US is located on Long Island - The Hauppauge Industrial Park which houses 1,300 companies and employs more than 55,000 people.
Together Nassau and Suffolk counties' nearly 180 fire agencies possess more fire trucks than New York City and Los Angeles County combined.
Suffolk County is the leading agricultural county in New York State based on the wholesale value of its farm products.
More 7-Eleven coffee is purchased on Long Island than in all of California.
George Washington commissioned the Montauk Lighthouse so that the ships coming in from Europe could identify the Atlantic Ocean from the Long Island Sound.
Fire Island got its name in the 17th century when it built fires to identify the coastline to the ships in the ocean.
After World War II, the Japanese were nationalized and able to fly to just 5 places in the country with Idlewild Airport (JFK International) being one, which is why Canon, Nikon and Olympus located their corporate offices there.
The Town of Hempstead with 800,000 residents is the largest township in the country, larger than Boston, San Francisco and Baltimore.
The Nassau and Suffolk population is greater than 20 of 50 states.
Hicksville was the original home of Fudpucker World Airlines, the Worlds only steam powered Airline.
Long Island is the largest college "town" in the US with 175,000 students registered in 21 colleges.
Long Island has the highest level of volunteerism in the world.
That is great, DR vixmom.
-
Well, I'm home, and I am very happy with my haircut.
-
I always enjoyed my visits to many parts of Long Island.
-
Glad you got your errands done, DR elmore3003.
-
I'm thinking of skipping the January blahs and all the snow and heading out to my summer palace.
-
DR JohnG, my hip doesn't bother me with all the other leg pains while I'm up and about. The "neuropathy gone wild" occurs when I'm lying on my side. There's clearly a spot where the pressure on the nerves goes wild, while if I turn a hair, I have no issues.
-
DR elmore3003 - wondering if you might find relief sleeping in a recliner. Worth a thought.
-
Good morning!
Good to see TCB last night!
Congrats on your milestone, DR vixmom!
Hello, DR KevinH
-
We finally have an answer to that age-old question.
-
Because it was running from the cops.
-
I have showered. I feel human again.
-
Listening to Daisy Jones and the Six. It’s just like The Final Reunion of Opal and Nev. It’s entertaining, but it’s sort of redundant.
-
Waiting for butter to soften.
-
At least I am not watching butter soften.
-
Vere ist Vixmom?
-
Very, very ist Vixmom.
-
Good Morning! Wow, page 5 already at 9:00am PST!
Health vibes to DR Elmore and those who need them!
Donna McKechnie was a joy. There really isn't anything else to say about that.
Today, I have a vocal rehearsal for Matilda and later, a band rehearsal for Something Rotten that I'm playing keys for. Then this evening, I'm home with the boys!!!
-
Thanks for reminding me, DR Matthew. I keep forgetting to view the filmed version of Matilda. I don't know the show at all.
-
I haz returned from taking all my recyclables to the basement.
-
Exciting, I know.
-
I livened up the journey by channeling my inner DR elmore3003.
-
I wonder if the inventor of the knife said, "This is the greatest thing since torn bread!"
-
You just sense that Snow White was scarfing tacos on the sly.
Now there's proof.
-
Well I finally made it.
-
Lots of interesting things here already today on HHW.
-
glad to hear DR ELMORE got there and back.
-
I enjoyed DR VIXMOM's history lesson.
-
Vibes for DR GEORGE that he gets the Case of the Kindle solved.
-
Les Girls.
I think the poster says: "Rhymes with Play Girls!"
Maybe too many rubes thought is meant Less Girls!
-
One of the contestants in this round of RuPaul's Drag Race did an uncanny impression of Joan Rivers last night.....and two others were very good as Tim Gunn and Rosie O'Donnell. And then there were the other 11.....
-
Vibes for DR GEORGE that he gets the Case of the Kindle solved.
Nancy Drew is on it.
-
And The Three Investigators.
-
And the Hardy Boys.
-
Someone is going to solve it.
-
And just in time...
-
Six.
-
Listening to 'The Triumphs of Oriana,' that seminal madrigal cycle.
-
From DR Vixmom:
Bill was looking and sounding much better today
This news gave me a smile :)
-
And has demanded oatmeal raisin cookies
;D :)
-
Speaking of madrigals, this is kind of an interesting (and somewhat wacky) video about another madrigal. It's about 12 minutes, but you can skip the "sing along" during the last part. It's interesting because it deals with the difference between "pure" intervals and the tempered tuning of the piano. And the overtone series.
DR George I have enjoyed the photos of your Kindle case.
-
It is a super nice case.
-
From George:
The instructions say "If possible wait 24hrs before placing your device into your case."
:o :o :o
-
From DR George:
Actually, I've started setting up my printer to be able to print stuff from my phone from anywhere in the world!
Cool. Are you planning a trip ;)
DR George: The Kindle case looks great. Maybe I missed something earlier, but I have no idea what that waiting 24 hours, etc., is all about.
It was to allow the adhesive on the Velcro pad attached to the Kindle to completely set up and be completely secure.
-
Nice Kindle cover, George. I hope you’re u can get it to work for you.
Thanks, John! So do I!
-
I enjoyed DR VIXMOM's history lesson.
I have been advised thst Long Iskand is actually only 23 miles wide at the widest point and averages 14 miles wide
Wow! Page Six by 10:15 a.m.!
Yes, it could have. ::)
When the Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883, it became the first land -transport route between Long Island and mainland USA. Before that, the only way to travel between the two was by boat.
I recently read The Great Bridge about this.
Ferry travel did not sound like fun.
I have showered. I feel human again.
Does all the heat & steam in the shower help your hand? I do shoulder and knee exercises in the shower as it is easier.
DR George I have enjoyed the photos of your Kindle case.
Thanks, Jane!
You are welcome. I hope the case doesn't shut your Kindle off again and you can use it.
-
George, did you close the case on your Kindle? A magnetic case will shut it off.
Curd is made. Encountered a new challenge: Separating eggs is not a one-handed feat.
-
JB liked his taste of curd.
-
Now, what do I do with it?
-
I used five lemons and have maybe 15 more.
-
I'll bet that is an interesting book, DR Jane.
-
George, did you close the case on your Kindle? A magnetic case will shut it off.
I didn't even need to close the case. Just setting the Kindle on the cast made it shut off. I guess the magnet is just too powerful.
-
I imagine a book on the design and building of the Golden Gate Bridge would also be quite interesting.
-
I've never had a Kindle that had that option, so I've never experienced that. You'd think the case makers would know that that would happen. :-\
-
It appears there are many.
-
I have a Kindle Oasis, and love it.
-
I did not spring for the newest and latest, released a month ago. It is bigger, and since I mostly read in bed, didn't want the extra size and weight.
-
DR John G. will complete the age-old adage, When life gives you lemons...
-
I am waiting on tenterhooks.
-
But first, a nap.
Who else has a Kindle?
I has.
What kind of case do you have?
;D It could be convenient locally. I like to watch when I print to be sure it is actually printing.
Not something I managed to do when I was one handed. Fortunately I didn't need to cook.
Awww.
Saturday afternoon greetings! It’s a little dreary here - inside AND out.
-
Same here.
-
I am also thinking about DR Danise as her funeral was yesterday morning. I have a photo of her beautiful grave marker.
If anyone would like to see it, and know more details, ask and I will send you a PM.
-
DR Jane, I would like those details. It had crossed my mind, when we first lost Danise, that I’m the closest of us to Pittsburgh and maybe I could represent us at her services. The way our week unfolded, I’m glad I didn’t make that commitment.
-
DR elmore3003 - wondering if you might find relief sleeping in a recliner. Worth a thought.
You assume two things:
1. I own a recliner
2. My apartment has space for a recliner ;)
-
It was a nice thought. I also would have liked to have gone. Winter didn't make it easy. Poor Thelma could not go.
-
My brother Randy and sister-in-law Jo gave me a Kindle for Christmas many years ago. I found I preferred a real book, so it sits in a drawer somewhere in the apartment.
-
My Kindle has a nondescript Amazon cover. Black.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! It’s a little dreary here - inside AND out.
Same here.
Ditto.
-
DR Ginny I sent you an email.
-
My Kindle has a nondescript Amazon cover. Black.
Ditto. It does have a magnet which turns it on when I open the cover and turns the screen off when I close it. At least, I think it does. Does anyone ever really know if the refrigerator light goes off when you close the door?
-
LOL. I no longer have a cover with a magnetic strip. I do know they really shut the light off and work-lol
-
DR Ginny I sent you an email.
Got it and responded - thank you.
I had friends whose cat loved to rest in the fridge. She knew. But she never told anyone.
-
My $7.99 amaryllis bulb, bought on a whim, is now putting forth its third shoot of flowers. They are gorgeous.
-
That's cheery.
-
And they didn't dawdle, which is great.
-
We are taking off on a little adventure, to a supper club about 45 minutes away. We are meeting two other couples, high school classmates of the DH, for supper. Which I guess is a good place to get it - at a supper club.
-
One thing I love about the Internet is the ability to peruse a menu in advance.
-
And they didn't dawdle, which is great.
No. And they don't sing Shipoopi.
-
Ta ta until much later!
-
No. And they don't sing Shipoopi.
;D
LOL, however, if the cat was in the fridge the door would have to stay open for the cat to breathe.
Have fun.
One thing I love about the Internet is the ability to peruse a menu in advance.
I do enjoy doing that though often it doesn't show the entire menu.
-
I apparently did miss season two of Miss Scarlet. So now I can watch season 2 on disc and season 3 online.
-
I got A Beautiful Noise and the new Music Man recordings from the library.
-
Beautiful Noise is tiny notes from Neil Diamond and Bob Gaudio instead of liner notes. Music Man has three sets of notes, including one on the recording from Peter Filichia, whom I normally like. All three are sadly dull.
-
I started listening to A Beautiful Noise. It's OK, but not great. Kind of like a theme park musical tribute or a Vegas show. But the songs themselves are wonderful and make me long to hear the originals again.
-
I do not have a Kindle machine.
-
I'm kinda hoping the new WOKE lyrics for songs in THE MUSIC MAN do not become the ones used for productions and schools and community theatres......
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
-
I woke up at one and answered e-mails and then just went right to work futzing and finessing and there was a lot of it to do, although I was very happy with the basic writing. Then I wrote five new pages and will now to get some food, then resume around five and I may, if I'm feeling it, just go until I finish. I believe I'm in the last twenty pages now and in fact the book proper finished last night and I'm in the coda now.
-
Home from the days work. Looking forward to staying home this eve. The boys will be happy as well.
I haven't picked up my kindle in years ever since the Kindle app for the iPhone was released. Now I just read everything on an iPad or my phone. Pluses and minuses for both, I'm sure. I guess the biggest is convenience.
-
I was able to load the Libby app on my phone.
-
This time I did not watch the Libby video and simply followed the app directions. It was soooo much easier ;D
-
I could never read on my little mini iPhone. My tablet is convenient vs going between my tablet and a Kindle.
-
I mostly read books from my library. If my main source of books was from Kindle then I would prefer reading on a Kindle.
-
I am also thinking about DR Danise as her funeral was yesterday morning. I have a photo of her beautiful grave marker.
If anyone would like to see it, and know more details, ask and I will send you a PM.
Please do send the details Jane
-
I will forward my email to you.
-
Vixmom, email sent.
-
I now have Libby set up on my tablet. That was super easy. All I had to do was download the app to my tablet, then go to my phone app and sink them.
-
I hope it will be this easy on my computer.
-
I will probably attempt to do so tomorrow.
-
'night
Whew!! My new Kindle case actually works correctly!
-
I think that what I was doing was turning it on before I put it in the case, and because of the magnets, it turned off.
-
But when I just put it in the case, closed it, and left it alone, it turned itself ON when I opened it up! ;D
-
Here's what I originally wanted to post:
-
:D
-
That's nice, DR George.
-
Back from the supper club. It was a nice visit, and I had a delicious pesto salmon.
-
Kind of out of gas tonight, though, even with a brief nap earlier.
-
My $7.99 amaryllis bulb, bought on a whim, is now putting forth its third shoot of flowers. They are gorgeous.
Nice!
-
I guess I can try to make it to page ten.
-
But it won't be high quality stuff.
-
Sounds like BK will finish the book tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
-
Which will be a happy occasion.
-
Something to be celebrated.
-
And applauded.
I got A Beautiful Noise and the new Music Man recordings from the library.
What a coikydink! I also got A Beautiful Noise from the library, but not The Music Man. I did, however, get the new Funny Girl in the mail yesterday.
-
And cheered.
-
Ten!
-
Good night, friends.
-
I started listening to A Beautiful Noise. It's OK, but not great. Kind of like a theme park musical tribute or a Vegas show. But the songs themselves are wonderful and make me long to hear the originals again.
That's the thing about jukebox musicals. Sometimes (not always, though), the songs are so different that I can't let go of the originals and accept them as a new score to a show.
-
I'm kinda hoping the new WOKE lyrics for songs in THE MUSIC MAN do not become the ones used for productions and schools and community theatres......
Agreed!!
-
Vixmom, email sent.
Thank you
-
I went to visit WFO today and we had a nice long visit
-
He was in good spirits
-
That's nice, DR George.
Thanks, Singdaw!
Agreed!!
I wonder if they'll at least be made available in addition to the originals.
-
Well, I'm done with my Dairy Queen dinner, and am now off to my sister's from some freshly baked (if not made) cookies. :)
-
She wants me to get ice cream first, so I shall.
Until later.
-
I looked in three stores trying to find Pepperidge Farm oatmeal raisin cookies for Bil
-
All they had were oatmeal chocolate chunk
-
Which I never heard of before
-
But the bakery at Stop n’Shop had fresh in store baked oatmeal raisin cookies
-
And Bill was very pleased to see them
-
Has anybody here ever seen or owned the CD of the Sondheim workshop production of Wise Guys?
-
Well that cleared the room
-
I guess you’re all checking your cd shelves
-
I do believe I have finished writing book 23. I'm sure there'll be futzing and finessing to do, but I think I got the ending just the way I wanted it and frankly I'm all in and a wreck at the moment so I think I'll just go out and get some donuts to celebrate.
-
Congratulations, BK! That’s great news.
-
But I haven’t received my copy yet. I guess I will have to file a complaint with PayPal.
-
Was Wise Guys recorded? I have Bounce and Road Show.
-
Back from a large dance party.
-
I’m exhausted.
-
There's a (ootlegbay) recording of the workshop of Wise Guys with Nathan Lane and Victor Garber. That version of the show was never officially recorded. Some people do have a copy of that. ::)
;)
-
PM me your e-mails. ;D
-
Went out and got two donuts. I feel like I've been hit be a large truck.
-
Such good news from MR BK.
Congrats on the reaching the finish line on the new book!
I haven't received it yet.....should I file a complaint?
-
Happy to hear that DR GEORGE has a working Kindle.
I am afraid I am too set in my ways for this new technology.....we shall see.
-
Congrats, BK!! Hopefully, we'll soonly find out what the book is about!
-
Oh, look! It's Page Eleven!!
-
And since we're so close...
-
Gratuitous Post #303!! ;D
-
Early Sunday morning.
Next week I have NOTHING to do.....so I am hoping for a nice restful week of only ME.
I filed my taxes yesterday. My Federal return has been accepted, so I am hoping my State return will be accepted soon.
Things were a bit more complicated with the inheritance, etc, but still not difficult. We shall see what happens.
-
For some reason I enjoyed a few of the sketches on SNL tonight.....Bowen Yang as George Santos was most excellent....and as usual I enjoyed the Weekend Update.
-
I have filed a complaint.
-
As mentioned when I began the book, this is an idea I've had for a very long time that I simply did not know how to write. When I boiled down the ideas in December it came down to a non-fiction book that would have been simple, a thriller, which would not have been simple, and this idea. And one night, it all just came to me, how to write it, the way in, and once I had that it just began feeling like the right thing at the right time and Muse Margaret, after hearing the three ideas, went for this one very rapidly.
