Today, my mom is going to take Mona and Dee to the Red Wind casino for dinner for their birthdays (both are in January, but not on the same day). Mona and Dee are two of the Friday night Phase 10 regulars, along with me and my niece. Anyway, I'm going to go with them. It should be a fun evening. We might (or might not) stay to play. We'll see.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Congratulations, BK! I look forward to learning what the book is about.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to BK on book #23!!!!!!!!

I slept in until 6:00. That caused a frenzy among my household. All of them came to check on me and remind me their breakfast was late.

My fourth floor neighbor Steve Williford, who was living in the building when I moved in 40 years ago, is a director for the soap The Young and the Restless. These days, since the soap films in LA, he's in New York maybe once a month for 2-5 days. We spoke on Friday, and I mentioned my frustrations with the apartment management doing nothing to provide a chair for the laundry room. This morning he sent me these two photos.
-
Wow - that's amazing!
-
Speaking of my neighbors, I haven't seen Ann and Jen in two weeks. Ann's been busy with school and her weekends have been taking care of her elderly parents in Boston. Jen's spent most of her time in Stamford, CT, with her father, who died this last week:

~~~CONTINUED MAJOR MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for BK!!!!!!
-
I have not heard from Jeremy since his return from vacation, so I suspect he is not interested in illustrating Annabelle & Thatch. So I guess, like The Wind in the Willows, it will be published without illustrations.
That's too bad, DR elmore3003.
What a great idea, DR John G.!!
A new television series.... THE GRAY-DY BUNCH. It's set in a retirement community.
-
One episode is all about how no one knows how to un-mute on a Zoom call.
And the recurring refrain of "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" refers to Senator Marsha Blackburn. And not in a nice way.
You coulda been a contender, Singdaw.
Aw. That's sweet. :)
In news of another BK, the Brett Kavanaugh documentary sounds fascinating and infuriating. It’s called Justice.
News of the screening has prompted so many further claims, the finished film is back to being a work in progress.
Hello to everyone from Egypt where I am winding down a 2 week vacation, but never fear, there is a new Broadway Radio Show for your listening pleasure. This week, Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole sing show tunes! Two great vocalists performing classics from the stage...enjoy!
I guess our invites to Egypt got lost in the mail.
Enjoy yourself, Donald.
And we’ll enjoy the show.
Sunday morning greetings! It’s snowing like crazy and accumulating more than the predictors expected. I’m so glad I didn’t have to deal with this LAST Sunday!
Congratulations to BK on the birth of No. 23!
What's this about DR Donald walking like an Egyptian?
I wonder if Nat King Cole ever played Egypt.
That is wonderful. When you first posted about it, I wondered how difficult it would be for someone in the building to simply donate an inexpensive chair or two (I don't know how much space there is), and just dare the management to remove it or do anything about it. I'm so glad to see this.
-
DR Elmore, it's indeed disappointing that Jeremy hasn't yet replied to you about illustrating the book.
Rightly or wrongly, my first thought (when you said he didn't reply at all, not that he replied but said no thanks) is that many MANY otherwise good people are surprisingly slow, or just downright poor, at responding to things like email in a timely manner. Or they're simply disorganized in that way while being expertly on top of things in others -- which Jeremy obviously must be in his musical life. I've had nothing but the best impression of those Claytons -- though other than "knowing him" through your posts and stories about him, I've only had the pleasure of chatting with Josh a couple of brief times. Those illustrations were amazing and it would be so great if he can give this some serious thought.
DR JOHN G I liked that review - but my computer is so slow I can't scroll......it jumps up and down.....I'll try it later today.
Fish squares. Teaching folks geometry since 1935.
-
If you bunch them together, you get Fish rectangles. And if you cut them diagonally, you get Fish triangles. And if you're really fancy, Fish parallelograms.
-
But the question remains:
-
What is it, fish?
-
Are fish sticks related to fiddle sticks?
-
We may never know for sure.
-
But have they ever been seen in the same room at the same time?
-
If a fish sticks the landing, do the judges say, "Fish sticks!"?
Does the tuna need a tuneup?
-
Does the maki maki need a makeover?
And what about the wild trout?
Good Morning. Congrats to BK on finishing the book - where there never was a book. Which reminds me that I never did purchase last years book, I guess I should get on that - being a completest you know....
At work, in my classroom while the kids sing at this particular mass this morning. Sometimes I sit in and play guitar, other times I just leave for the time.
John & George, do you have Libby synced between devices? I have one into my first issue, the sync goes away once I close the app on my tablet requiring me to sync it each time I open it.
-
I am reading Dennis Shrock's Choral Repertoire, a 1,000-page tome. I'm trying to do a little synchronized listening. Right now, I'm listening to madrigals.
The Libby app took away the option to recommend my library purchase a book >:( >:(
It also doesn't tell me how much time I have left to borrow a book that is now available on my holds.
That sounds like two key features that shouldn't have been removed.
No. And that’s irritating.
I don't use Libby.
Why would they do that?? At least, you can still go to your library's OverDrive site and recommend there. :-\
That sounds like two key features that shouldn't have been removed.
Agreed!!
-
That sounds like two key features that shouldn't have been removed.
I think so.
-
I often used both features.
-
I have one more thing to figure out before I am completely set up on Libby.
-
I need to export my read list from Overdrive to Libby.
-
As I suspected, the magnets ;D
Never having one with the sleep mode like this before, I really had no idea.
I miss the magnets on my cover, however, I couldn't find the option on the padded covers.
Except it is be gone soon, when I don't know. The libraries say sometime at the beginning of the year.
-
I found another missing option, my reading history. I cannot transfer my reading history from Overdrive to Libby and it doesn't do it automatically.
-
I now have one book in my Libby history, the one I am currently reading.
-
I recommended a couple of books at my library. One has been purchased with a February release, and I am the first person in line for it. I get very excited when that happens.
Another recommended book will be released in April. With luck I will still be able to use Overdrive when the book is released. I expect to be high on the list for this one as well.
What's going away next year? The libraries' OverDrive websites? I hadn't heard that.
-
This year, Overdrive is being replaced by Libby. I am curious what your library is doing.
-
From my library:
OverDrive app going away in early 2023
The original OverDrive app has been removed from the Google Play, Apple App, and Microsoft stores. This means that new OverDrive users will need to download the Libby app to access OverDrive eBooks and eAudiobooks on their Android and iOS devices.
Current users of the OverDrive app may keep using it for now, but OverDrive plans to discontinue it in early 2023.
Please note:
Devices with browsers can also use FVRL's Libby website, which has the look and feel of the Libby app.
The library's OverDrive website will continue to be fortvancouver.overdrive.com, which has the look and feel of the original OverDrive app.
For a seamless transition, be sure to switch to Libby by the end of 2022.
-
Yes, the app is going away, but not the OverDrive websites. That was my confusion.
-
Muse Margaret seems to have been out all day and is still out. If they listen to my message when they return they'll know I sent the stuff but she probably now won't read it until tomorrow. If they don't listen to the message and her hubby doesn't check his email then I'll have to call tomorrow.
-
Yes, the app is going away, but not the OverDrive websites. That was my confusion.
What does that mean, that I can still look at my OverDrive but not use it?
-
Yes, the app is going away, but not the OverDrive websites. That was my confusion.
What does that mean, that I can still look at my OverDrive but not use it?
No, you should be able to go to the website, which is on the Internet. The app is downloaded onto a device and is not a website.
-
LOL, I went to the website. First thing on it is about changing to Libby.
-
Heard from Muse Margaret. She just got home so she'll read tomorrow. But while I had her on the phone, I read all the little changes I made that were her suggestions - just read them to her and she liked 'em all and they do help and it's amazing how a few small things just add that little extra something. I don't even think it took twenty minutes to make the changes. But it was good for her to know what they are because a few of them are then used later in the book and she wouldn't have understood otherwise.
-
I was trying to watch a movie called Tenet and it is so damn convoluted and two and a half hours long and everyone talks so low and gobbles their words that I couldn't even tell what was going on other than time runs backwards stuff. I don't know if I'll finish it or not.
-
I am a bit depressed right now. I opened a book to read in the Libby app. A very serious change has been made. I can no longer adjust the brightness as I could with OverDrive. The Libby app is too bright for me to read at night :(
-
My fish squares came out very well......and I was ready to eat them when I discovered I had two packages of hot dog buns and NO packages of hamburger buns.
Well I had one bun left in a package.
So I had one fish square on a bun. Then later I ate two fish squares on a plate with potato salad. I have five fish squares left.
-
They have just predicted 5-7 inches of s**w for us starting Tuesday night at midnight - on into Wednesday early a.m. and throughout the day.
So I am glad I went to the store on Friday. Even though I forgot hamburger buns.
Today, I went with my mom and Dee (Mona didn't feel up to it) to the Red Wind Casino for a birthday dinner for Dee.
-
I got the Chicken Parmesan, which came with some spaghetti and vegetables.
-
I just ate the chicken and it was quite delish.
-
I got some extra marinara sauce for the spaghetti because there wasn't any on it, and I brought that home for a later meal.
-
Dee and I also got a piece of cheesecake to go.
-
We all had a good time and meal, then Dee left to go home because she didn't want to gamble.
-
Fortunately, she drove herself, so she could do that.
-
My mom and I stayed (my mom really wanted to stay) and we played the slot machines.
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
I played (and lost) the $60 I brought, but my mom gave me some money to continue playing...so I continued.
-
I lost that, but then she gave me more money to play, and I found a machine that was a winning machine in a way that I've never won before!
-
So, she gave me $100, and I played, and then I started getting big wins, like $66 and then $74 on a single spin!
-
I eventually got over $140 and cashed in, kept the $140+ and started playing with the $100 again.
-
Three, count 'em, THREE more times I got over $150 and cashed in, kept the $50, and then continued playing with the $100 on that same machine! :D
-
The last time, I did end up losing the $100 that my mom gave me, but I ended up taking home $244!
-
And that actually was AFTER giving back the $100!
-
If/when I go back, I'll definitely try that machine again!
