Well, you've read the notes, the notes were ready or not, and now it is time for you to post until the ready or not cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: WEAL!
-
During the discussions on Laverne and Shirley, I found myself thinking about Eddie Mekka.
I had last seen him as The Arbiter in an excellent production of the musical Chess.
-
I went on YouTube, and found several videos of that production., performed in 1990 at the Long Beach Civic Light Opera.
Jodie Benson was a fantastic Florence.
-
But the voice that I could never forget was that of the very handsome and charismatic actor who had the role of Anatoly, The Russian.
He was the absolute best, and I had seen and listened to dozens of productions of Chess.
-
So..
I went on YouTube and listened to that extraordinary voice again tonight.
It was Robert Yacko.
-
If there are any Chess lovers here, check out all of the videos of that production on YouTube.
You’re welcome.
😊
-
Well, I have literally just gotten home after seeing I Am Not Your Perfect
American Mexican Daughter (https://www.seattlerep.org/plays/202223-season/i-am-not-your-perfect-mexican-daughter/). It was a wonderful show.
Post corrected. ::)
;)
-
The lead actress never leaves the stage, and has I think at least three quarters of the lines all by herself! Others do interact with her in most of the scenes, but she has so many lines! Like for a one-person show, I can't imagine having to learn THAT many lines!
-
After the show, David and I went to meet one of his friends and several of his friends at their high-rise apartment building in downtown Seattle. We went out on the 40th-floor terrace and looked around at the night view.
-
It's a little blurry, but here's looking across at the Space Needle from 40 floors up:
-
And here's from a slightly different angle:
-
A Very Happy Birthday to Kristi!
-
What a gorgeous view!
-
Is it I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter?
Have read some reviews.
-
Last night, Jane posted: "More vibes you get cast"
And Iris posted, "Hoping to hear good news from George after his callback audition today."
Thanks, Jane and Iris!

SPOO!! You are correct, Iris! I goobered when typing it. I fixed my original post. ;D

Seattle is such a beautiful city.
I miss it. Traveled there frequently in the 90’s.

Last night, BK wrote, "Glad George's audition went well. I have a feeling he'll get it."
Thanks, BK! From your lips...

Cool! Did you come here for work, or family and/or friends?
-
We all have a good feeling about it.
So hoping you get cast!
-
I worked for an airline, so I flew for free if seats were available.
I loved Seattle so much, that I visited whenever I had time off.
I almost moved there.

Very nice!
-
I also loved Vancouver.
The PNW is spectacular.
-
Spent lots of time at Pike Place Market.
And Seattle has such a vibrant theater community.
-
I've lived in the Lacey/Olympia/Tumwater area since we moved here when I was 10, so it's pretty much all I really know.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Great photos, DR George. What a view!
-
We saw “Princesses” at the 5th Ave. Theater in Seattle, because our friend, Lindsay Mendez was in it.
It was great.
Brent Barrett and Sierra Boggess were also in the cast.
It’s a wonderful theater.

Wishing everyone a calm and peaceful Sunday.

I was just thinking that if Judas also had a man bun, and they performed the show on ice, they could promote it as:
The Battle of the Buns. On Ice.
-
That would be one hot ticket.

So to speak.

Great photos, DR George. What a view!
Thanks, Singdaw! It definitely was!

Good morning, all! DR George, get to bed! ! !

After yesterday's skirmish with the phone, Thatch was very reluctant to come to breakfast. He finally overcame his trepidation and ate his breakfast. And Annabelle's.
-
I have much to do today: Amazon Fresh delivery, print out a copy of A&T to proof again, make further inroads into the ballet number, and schedule tomorrow's Access-a-Ride.
-
Last night, I slept very well. Thatch spent most of the night curled up beside me. I thought last night was supposed yo be colder than the night before, but it wasn't. Annabelle has decided she wants a new sleeping place, so she's now at the foot of the bed on her kitty quilt.
-
:)
-
DR JohnG, have you read any of Caryl Brahms' books? After reading my Facebook post about The Coachman Rat, my operetta authority Kurt Gänzl recommended her Titania Has a Mother. He also recommended her comic mystery A Bullet in the Ballet. Her Shakespearean novel No Bed for Bacon appears to be the uncredited source for the film Shakespeare in Love.
-
;)
This clarifies a turn of phrase enormously.

They sure don't write hymns like they used to...

Happy Sunday to one and all...there's a new Broadway Radio Show: I'm joined by Caseen Gaines to discuss the creation & legacy of the musical Shuffle Along from his book When Broadway Was Black. A wonderful, insightful conversation...check it out!

No, not the cats. It's not accepting orders from the computer well. It took forever to get it to print this morning. I checked all connections several times and it remained offline. Then it suddenly whirred into action, printed my copy of A&T, and stopped. I'e got a shitload of things to print over the next two weeks for my tax accountant. At the moment, I would prefer not to purchase a new one.

I liked when Tracy recognized you. Did you remember her?

Bruce, it is nice people have reached out to you about Cindy. We were talking to Ricky the other day and he remembered you were close and asked how you were doing. I guess he remembers because he went to the first (pre-premier?) showing of Nudie Musical with us.

Grammy vibes for Grant!

I wonder if a granny ever won a Grammy?

Only 3 recordings nominated in the Choral category? I know that there were more than 3 choral recordings issued in the past year. There must be some arcane rules about this kind of stuff.

We had a nice video chat with the kids today. Freyja has a cold and wasn't very happy that they kept cleaning her eyes.
-
BK, have you considered a screenplay (tentative title, CINDY AND ME) going from the day you met at your first days at L A College thru the filming of SAMI?? I think the public would love it.
-
Back from soundcheck - I printed out my lyrics in 16 pt. (usually 12) to be sure I could read them - I couldn't. On the way home I stopped at CVS and got reading glasses and those seem to do the trick. I always thought reading glasses were cheap - these were not cheap.

It is difficult for me to find reading glasses that don't fall off of my face. Those are never cheap.

Bruce how much did you pay for your reading glasses?

Grant lost to Snarky Puppy.

Snarky Puppy is an excellent jazz/funk band, and they’ve won several Grammy awards already.
It was tough competition.
Was hoping Grant would win.

Good news from DR vixmom about being home and having a dry basement. I know there were problems just before you left.

Did you enjoy soupy pizza on the way home, as well?

I read the notes earlier and thought, isn’t Rupert Holmes a mensch? I’ve heard so many stories of his kindness. I wrote him a few months ago to ask him to clear up a debate a friend and I were having about the third verse of his song “Him,” and he wrote back and said that though the song was a huge hit, I was the first to notice that part of the verse made no sense. His producer had spliced together lyrics from two takes that didn’t match up! Hilarious.

Boy, what a surprise that THE MUSIC MAN is not a nominee. I finally listened to the CD the other day. What a horrible album I usually like Sutton Foster a lot, but “My White Knight” is just the worst thing I’ve ever heard.
-
I've been listening to NEW GUY IN TOWN. So many good songs, so well done.
I was listening to “Love Look Away” off there the other day. One of BK’s finest performances.

Snarky Puppy not to be confused with Vancouver electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy. No, indeed.
-
My fingers are really bad tonight. Must be the storm is coming in tomorrow.

Wonder if Bruce and other Bruce and Robbys presenter Bruce Vilanch ever crossed paths during the Donny and Marie Show.
