Well, you've read the notes, the notes were good and written on a Saturday, and now it is time for you to post until the good Saturday cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ZENITH!
-
Topic of the Day...these are all of Ann Bancroft's movies that I've seen:
Antz
The Miracle Worker
Silent Movie
To Be or Not to Be
Torch Song Trilogy
The Turning Point
-
DR George, you have not seen The Graduate?
-
I highly recommend 84 Charing Cross Road.
-
DR George, you have not seen The Graduate?
I actually haven't.
-
Today's going to be a day. I have music rehearsal from 10:00 to noon, then Margo and I (and maybe Shelly) are going to see the final performance of The Last 5 Years, then we also might go out to eat. Then tonight is Mercury Rising: A Queen Tribute (https://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/22-23-mercury-rising/), which is a fundraiser for Theater Artists Olympia! That's going to be fun! ;D

While our walk at the National Park this morning was lovely, views seem bland when the cherry blossoms haven't bloomed yet ;)
-
We certainly got spoiled quickly during the first portion of our trip.
-
I feel very lucky to have experienced cherry blossoms in full bloom in Japan and Korea.

Nice.

Time for bed. Good night, Jane.
Have a good day, all!
-
Goodnight George.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept very well. I had dreams, none of which I now remember.
-
I have no news at the moment.
-
Good morning, friends.

Listening to Bernard Herrmann's Souvenir de Voyage for clarinet and string quartet, which is lovelier than lovely. Didn't know about it before. Thanks, BK!!

Good morning, all.

Amazon Fresh has come and gone. It's all put away, so let the kitty cleanup begin!

Let the kitty cleanup begin indeed.

I slept about 7.5 hours. Mostly good sleep. Not many dreams.

I have to make my pie today. And frost the brownies.
-
Good morning!
-
I also have too many dance lessons/parties today.
-
And dishes to do.
-
And clothes to wash.

Wordle: 5/6
-
Good morning, all.

No particular news here, either. Today is a ME day, and that’s a good thing because I’ve planned to sit my ASS down at the plastics and just sightread music all day. I’ll be playing three full evenings of auditions this coming week and it’ll just be a good workout.
-
The one thing I must do is go to the bank drive-thru, pick up some cat food, and pick up two things at the supermarket. That’s it. The rest of the day is ME ME ME.
-
It’s time for What Day Is It?
Kristi was home yesterday and it felt like a Saturday. Today feels like a Sunday. But both she and Nathan will be out today so it might morph into feeling like a Monday.
-
I slept about 7.5 hours. Mostly good sleep. Not many dreams.
Wow, how very nice. How is your finger doing?

TOD
I’ve loved Anne Bancroft since 1962 when I saw The Miracle Worker (film) on its opening night at the Florida Theatre in Fort Lauderdale. (Even though it would have been Patty Duke who I actually fell in love with that particular night.)
The Mel Brooks films she was in, including The Elephant Man.
84 Charing Cross Road.
Without looking them up I’m blanking on others at the moment. But her presence, her voice, everything, elevated any film with that magic she had. It’s a tragedy that she had to leave us, and Mel Brooks, so long ago.
-
Yes it is sad.
-
"night
-
I saw the Garbo Speaks film when it was released, and remember practically nothing about it. Holy moley, what a cast. Too bad about the damned script. But I must see it now.
-
The Garbo films I know I’ve seen are Anna Christie and Grand Hotel. I might have seen Ninotchka as well, back in my revival house days, but I don’t actually remember it.
-
I’ve actually wanted to see that Chaplin film again. Yes, it leaves much to be desired, but for Downey’s performance and the depiction of the era and of what made audiences respond to Chaplin, it’s well worth the watch.
-
The MAGA Morons will, of course, never learn!
-
ZENITH: the quality goes in before the name goes on.
-
Crazy how well so many advertisements imprinted on my brain.
-
I have to make my pie today. And frost the brownies.
And gilding the lilies.
-
Don't forget that.
-
I knew a guy named Zenith. A real Kentucky hillbilly who built pools with me one summer.
-
Yesterday was spent over in Canada. The kids decorated easter cookies at a friend’s. Then we had a celebratory 81st bday dinner for my dear ol’ MIL.
-
Sounds like a nice day, DR Rodzinski.
-
I remember this old Maxell print ad:
-
HA!
-
I enjoyed the notes today.
-
I remember this old Maxell print ad:
Legendary. Even had a parody in Bloom County.
-
I enjoyed reading about everyone's services yesterday.
And every time DR VIXMOM talks about stripping the altar, I think of Miss Mazeppa:
"Somethin' wrong with S T R I P P I N'?"
-
Gaslighting.
-
It works just as MR BK said.
-
I like DR CHAS SMITH's optimism that he's going to the bank to get cat food!
Good luck!
-
Vibes for MR BK. Miracle and meeting and otherwise.
-
TOD:
Well no discussion of Miss Bancroft would be complete without:
Gorilla At Large and The Girl In Black Stockings and Don't Bother To Knock.
the Miracle Worker
The Turning Point
The Pumpkin Eater
The Graduate
-
We have already had a plumbing emergency this morning. But building maintenance was on the job, fortunately.
-
I miss the mountains.
-
[a Next to Normal reference]
-
I remember this old Maxell print ad:
Legendary. Even had a parody in Bloom County.
I immediately flashed on that Bloom County panel when I saw that picture
-
I'm up, I'm up - five hours of sleep.
-
I had many plans to get up early and Get Things Done
-
Let it suffice to say those plans have not come to fruition

Today Manchester City plays Southampton - and then the Timberwolves play somebody or other.
Nice sports afternoon.
-
I did figure out what the April 30 PLAY 3 p.m. notice on my calendar is about.
That is the time of the auditions for THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG.
-
How in the bleedin' HELL could I, even in mentioning just a few Anne Bancroft pictures, fail to include The Graduate?
Seriously.
I should be fired for that.
-
Eating a plain bagel, toasted, one half with cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning, the other half buttered with orange marmalade.
The marmalade is a little weird on a bagel, but I was craving it.
-
And a banana.
-
There's another bagel in the kitchen. Just sayin'.
And more bananas.
-
And plenty of coffee.
It just might be one of those days.

Don't forget that.
Never. The brownies will be gilded with Jordan almonds.

I love Anne Bancroft in most everything.
She’s incredible in that horrible Gwyneth Paltrow Great Expectations. Mrs Robinson in The Graduate. Even in The Hindenberg.

Sorry I meant grocery store
-
I have an important announcement
-
If I have not already bought it, it will not appear at tomorrow’s dinner
-
I took my life in my hands just attempting the parking lot
-
There will be NO mushrooms tomorrow

Serves my brother right for dragging so damn many relatives along

Besides they don’t really go with ham

The mushrooms, not the relatives

Well some of the relatives too

My brothers BIL is Muslim

But he always brings his own halal meal along

Anyway there is much to do and little time in which to do it

Back from breakfast - omelet and bagel - picking up stuff from the mail place - a stop at Gelson's to get their chicken Caesar salad for later - and then home, James. She of the Evil Eye has left the premises.

-
Good night, friends.
-
I attempted to post this morning when we were on page 3. I had written quite a bit, and then for some reason it was all gone.
Ratz!
-
It has been a heck of a week. My sinus congestion regimen of steroid sprays, an antibiotic and nasal rinses have paid some happy dividends as things seem to be clearing up a bit.
I hope I do not become lax in my endeavors to breathe freely and often.
The rest of the week seems a blur. How can we be eight full days into April?
-
Tomorrow is Easter Sunday for those of us who observe it.
I shall be having lunch at the country club with my cousin Butch and his fiancee Sharon.
I thought about attending a sunrise service. It's the "sunrise" part that gets to me. And the service begins at 7 a.m.
I should be able to get up and attend, but....
-
It has rained and rained and rained for the past two days. It actually started Friday afternoon. It temporarily halted play at the Masters tournament in Augusta (25 miles away). A few pine trees fell and scared the bejiggers out of some patrons. No one was hurt, however.
Today was a washout or should have been. I haven't checked the news. We had gully washers throughout today, and I fear if the ground gets any more saturated, we shall all be awash in minor flooding.
-
I am craving fresh vegetables lately. Tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and the like. Strawberries are at their peak.
-
An early Happy April 9th to all!
-
Minnesota defeated the San Antonio Spurs! And Luka Garza got to play the last six minutes.
Is that golf?
-
Home from dancing. Tired.
-
Watching the start of Trade Winds, a romantic drama with a great cast: Frederic March, Joan Bennett, Ralph Bellamy, Ann Southern, Thomas Mitchell and more. Dorothy Parker and hubby Alan Campbell. They gave Ann Southern some of the best lines.
-
Good night, all.
-
It is already Easter here.

I made a meat loaf yesterday, so I am enjoying some meatloaf sandwiches today.....and tomorrow.

Chas did you get lost?
-
I relented and attempted Lidl around 4 pm
-
Mercifully the crowds had departed and I picked up 2 half gallons of vanilla ice cream and using s3lf check on us wasin and out of the store in under 10 minutes
-
Then I went to Mom’s and left the two ice creams in her freezer
-
And the two hams in her fridge
-
Then I went to church to put a few finishing touches on things for tomorrow
-
Then home again home again jiggity jig
-
Whereupon I made the aforementioned meatloaf and taters
-
I put 15 large sweet potatoes in the oven to roast while we were eating dinner
-
They are all now peeled and in a big stainless bowl with chicken stock, butter and brown sugar and in the oven. I’ll give them a nice purée in the morning
-
I also trimmed 3 lbs of asparagus and seasoned wit with lemon, olive oil and a little Penzeys roasted garlic and let that cook a bit in the oven
-
It can just get reheated tomorrow while the ham rests before carving
-
Currently the baby carrots are in the oven with butter and brown sugar
-
I’m short cutting on the peas and corn
-
I’m just going with canned
-
I’ll steam the new potatoes tomorrow at Moms
-
I have to be to church by 8 tomorrow
-
So. I had better turn. Off the stove and go to bed
-
It’s officially Easter here too
-
Happy Easter to those observing
-
I relented and attempted Lidl around 4 pm
Of course you did ;D
-
And you wonder why you are tired.
-
Let me state it again for the record or at least the CD: I do not care for page seven.
-
I think I watched a movie earlier but I honestly can't remember what it might have been.
-
I think it was something I was already halfway through.
-
Hopefully it will come to me before I write the notes.
-
Oh yeah, Chaplin.
-
Whew!
-
I really do not care for page seven.
-
Earlier, I ate the chicken Caesar salad - it was good. I had some Sour Patch Kids for a sweet.

Very nice!
-
After one of the things I tried to watch, I went to Ralph's to get some Pepcid, which I ran out of - they didn't have the berry flavor - I should know better than to write about which flavor of Pepcid I like because THIS is the result.
-
I'm home.
-
The music rehearsal this morning went well.
-
Just like the case of the good onion rolls at Gelson's - I write about them and suddenly they're out of them every time I'm there. I finally asked the gal at the counter and she said people are coming in at seven in the morning and buying them all up. Coincidence? There are NO coincidences in the naked city.
-
I think we've now gone through all the group numbers, so starting next week, we'll sing through the songs of each act during our Saturday music rehearsals.
-
I really wish I could hear what the wait staff is saying. Between their masks and accents, and my hearing, I tend to be clueless.
-
Listening to an opera by that composer I talked about the other day, who wrote that very good flute concerto - Jonathan Dove. It's a short piece, chamber orchestra, very tuneful, at times like a musical, I like it. I also got a Blu and Ray of his Peter Pan opera and I'll watch that tomorrow night.
-
I fear/know many of my responses are rude and sound as if I am being demanding.
-
Oh, the other thing I got at Ralph's was Chicken in a Biskit, my favorite crackers. I haven't had them in over four years.
-
Jane, you ARE demanding. I remember this from sixty years ago :)
-
Although this morning all the waiter had to do was look at my soft boiled egg to know it had been cooked for 4 seconds vs 4 minutes ;D
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
Jane, you ARE demanding. I remember this from sixty years ago :)
;D
-
Tomorrow is Easter.
-
Or as we in California call it, Wester.
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
I think there's gaslighting going on.
-
You mean when you took me to Jack in the box I didn't eat anything ;)
-
See what I mean. Call it out, and the gaslighters disappear.
-
It's Page Eight!
-
After rehearsal, my sister texted me, asking if I could get a couple of things for her at Costo.
-
Since I had time, I did.
-
Was it busy?
-
But I didn't have time to bring it to her, so I kept the stuff in my car until I saw her later in the day.
-
Was it busy?
It was, but not horribly so. I was able to get right up to a self-serve check-out and leave pretty quickly.
-
After Costco, I met Margo at the mall and we saw the final performance of The Last 5 Years.
-
It was still pretty good, but Margo though it was kind of flat.
-
I stopped ordering soft boiled eggs most places in the States as there were too many problems getting them right, including having them cooked only seconds vs minutes. On a cruise, or in international hotels, and especially in England, they get it right. This morning was a first.
-
We didn't have time to discuss it, so I don't know what she meant by that. :-\
-
Was it busy?
It was, but not horribly so. I was able to get right up to a self-serve check-out and leave pretty quickly.
Great. The self service is great uf you only buy a few items, not that we have ever used it.
-
After the show, I went to my mom's and had some what I call poor man's enchiladas: frozen bean and cheese burritos baked with mild green salsa.
-
They were actually really good, but I think I would've preferred the regular red enchilada sauce.
-
Maybe the next time, she can make some with the red sauce and some with the green sauce...but not the two mixed together.
-
My sister and niece got to my mom's about 1:00 or so, so they had already played a game of Scrabble and a couple of games of Aggravation.
-
I was able to play one game of Aggravation with everyone, and then I ate after my sister and niece left.
-
After eating and one game of Phase 10 with just my mom, I went home and got my jacket that I forgot, and headed to the Washington Center for the Mercury Rising: A Queen Tribute fund raiser for Theater Artists Olympia!
-
I had no idea that Queen was THIS popular!
-
There were over 850 tickets presold! :D
-
And I'm sure that there were some walk-up ticket sales.
-
All of the revenue will go to Theater Artists Olympia, and it's been estimated that we'll clear more than $10,000!
-
Who'da thunk it??
-
I went to the show as a patron, so I wasn't there as a Washington Center volunteer...that was fun!
-
I got to chat with some friend that I hadn't seen in a while, including my sixth grade teacher and my sixth grade reading teacher, who got married not too long after I got into high school. ;)
-
Ron, my main teacher actually worked as a house manager at the WCPA for a couple of years, and we'd all run into each other every few years or so and ketchup, so it was nice to see them again.
-
Then after the show, I came home and here I am. :)
-
Now, to ketchup on the rest of tonight's posts!
-
Thinking of all the work ahead of you, I chose to take a nap.
I definitely expect to sleep well tonight.
-

Oh, my goodness! I almost forgot to talk about the concert itself!
-
The group was a bunch of (mostly) local friends who are all fantastic singers and musicians who had originally wanted to do this concert three years ago for the lead singer's 40th birthday and as a fund raiser for Broadway Olympia Productions.
-
We'll, Covid hit, and they postponed. :P
-
Then BOP's owner Kyle wanted to step back from all the theater work that he'd been doing, and he's joined the board of TAO.
-
Kyle spoke with the group, and they agreed to do the fund raiser for TAO now.
-
I've been in shows with all three of the singers, and they're all really good, so I knew that no one who came to the show would be disappointed with the concert itself.
-
They picked many of Queen's hit, as well as not-so-well-known tunes for the concert.
-
It was a really good mix of songs and everyone loved it!
-
A VERY good time was had by all! :D
