Well, you've read the notes, the notes were handy-dandy and contained things, and now it is time for you to post until the handy-dandy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: QUEST!
-
Welcome 106 GUESTS!
-
I was just about to post this last night, so I saved it first...just in case:
First I saw HBO was as a kid on vacation in 1980 or so, watched Norma Rae on a hotel tv in Nebraska.
I remember watching The Harrad Experiment alone on my bedroom on my little black-and-white TV. ::)
;D
-
Notes inspected. Dissected.
-
Cindy going for it in that clip. Great to see her. Want to hear rest of that song.
-
I still remember the ancient HBO jingle. “HBO people don’t miss out!”
-
Since I frequent Deadline, I was curious how I’d find that story without the link. On mobile, you’d have to go to the “TV” section and scroll a bit. That may change as article collects more views.
-
Loved the video clip of Cindy! I also want to hear the rest of the song. ;D
-
Could you both leave a comment - just scroll down the to after the article and you'll seen the comment button.

Wordle 665 4/6. Comment on article 0
-
Well, I went through the process of posting a comment, but nothing showed up!
-
I didn't put in an e-mail address, but I didn't get any kind of error message that one was required.
-
If there's some kind of delay before it's posted, there also was no indication that it would be that way.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Congratulations on making Deadline.
-
Like DR George, I posted a comment, but it is not showing up.
-
Can't wait to hear Cindy's whole song and of course, see the whole series.
-
I had a strange dream about being bullied by an old hag in a retirement home. I yelled "Get away from me!" at her, and then I woke up. I'm pretty sure I yelled out in real life, but it was muffled by my CPAP mask.
-
That's some wild meatball recipe, DR George.
-
Glad things went well at the doctor's office for DR Ron Pulliam.
-
When cherry ripe is past its prime, does it become cherry slop?
-
I have never actually tried a cherry ripe.
-
I only know of it because Julie Andrews sang a song by that title in Victor/Victoria.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept in. It was another poor night of sleep. That's all I'm saying about it.
-
I only know of it because Julie Andrews sang a song by that title in Victor/Victoria.
"Cherry Ripe," an 18th century song, appears in a major way, in the first movement of Eric Coates' wonderful "London Suite."
-
Cool! Thanks, DR elmore3003!
-
It is also charmingly sung by the wonderful Elizabeth Harwood on this album, which was re-released as "Heart of Oak: Songs and Folksongs of the British Isles," one of my all-time favorite recordings. The orchestrations by Charles Mackerras and Ernest Tomlinson alone are worth the price of admission.

-
It looks like a good one!

Even though I don't go to the theatre these days because of the walker, I wished the Camelot revival a lot of success. I think three things killed it for me - the director Bartlett Sher who has no gift for whimsy or comedy in my book, Aaron Sorkin's serious political viewpoint, and the "woke" attitude destroying revivals of period musicals. I was lucky to see the original 1960 production in its first national tour. I remember little about it now beyond the glorious scenery and costumes, but I've read the libretto several times, Lerner's revised libretto for London, and his unfortunate screenplay, which got some things right and blew others to hell. By the time of the screenplay, he had removed all magic from the show except for Nimue's enchantment of Merlin at the end of scene one. Given the fact that the show credits T.H. White's wonderful epic, as opposed to the public domain Mallory or Tennyson, little remained of White's Once and Future King, or the loads of magic in the book, beyond the rogram credit.
A lot of folk hate Morgan le Fey's comedy in Act Two, but I've always found it a hoot. It and "What Do the simple Folk Do?," which has been shortened in the new production, are the only moments of lightness in the second act before the tragedy of Arthur, Guenevere, and Lancelot speeds to its conclusion.
-
TWO.
-
So the Camelot libretto was revised after the show opened on Broadway and then was revised again for London?
-
DR Rodzinski, I hope your household issues continue to improve.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Is there a fast boat to China?
-
Last night was absolutely grueling, we had to go an extra hour, and they’re going to need callbacks. But my participation in the whole affair is over. Done. Kaput.
-
I took a Benadryl to sleep on last night, which certainly worked, and now I just feel run over. I can’t believe how immediately this allergy attack felled me yesterday afternoon, and I really hope it eases up today.
-
The Deadline thing looks great. I see only two comments there. I’ll try leaving one later when I’m on the computer.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Huge thunderstorms rolled over in the middle of the night power went out for a minute, waking me up.
-
I couldn’t get back to sleep immediately. It was too loud.
-
My comment wouldn’t post.
-
That's some wild meatball recipe, DR George.
I know, right??
-
That meatball recipe made me want to vomit on the ground.
-
Wow.

Such nastiness.

Is anyone planning to watch the second season of Schmigadoon! ?

Good morning!

That's a funny clip of Cindy Williams, BK!
-
Watching a short mystery called The Case of the Black Parrot. Eddie Foy Jr. Is the sidekick. Looked like Robert Taylor in a walk-on role.
-
It’s actually pretty good.
-
I shall have to try watching the clip later - sites like that are difficult for my computer to handle.....so many videos showing at once and things to click on and "x" out.
I think the comments are moderated - so all of our comments will have to be read and approved by the PTB at DEADLINE.
-
HA! I was watching Planet of the Vampires last night, too.....on Screenpix.
The costumes with the high collars that hide the actors' faces look very uncomfortable.
And there is certainly a LOT of room to walk around in in the spaceship.....it's as big as a baseball diamond.
I've never watched it to the end - still - but maybe I'll give it another try. It certainly beats Queen of Blood - except that movie has John Saxon.

While most puns make me feel numb...

I fell asleep watching the tv machine.

Woke in the wee hours and opened my iPad to check if it needed recharging ( it did)

That’s probably why it showed I was here

I was a child of 11 when Planet of the Apes came out
-
We went to see it as a family at the local theatre ( which no longer exists)
-
I had nightmares about the woman who aged and died in her sleep due to the broken glass in her hibernation unit
-
Why if all the things in the movie that was what my subconscious hooked onto I cannot explain.
-
Although the thought of it right now just gave me a little shiver
-
We have been up since 8 but just dawdling

Vixdad made a nice pot of tea and I made him a breakfast of toasted onion bagel and sausages

That should be rectified ASAP

Now DEADLINE tells me that I have a video error and cannot watch the clip.
I am sure it is my computer or my connection. :(
-
DR VIXMOM I have used your potato recipe to make roasted potatoes in my Air Fryer. Most excellent.
What is the clean up like for pork chops in the Air Fryer?
-
We saw Planet of the Apes on its opening weekend at one of the B I G drive in theeders in suburban Indy.....traffic was backed up for a mile or so and it took us a while to find a parking spot with a working speaker.
Most excellent. DR VIXMOM that old woman also creeped me out.
And we saw some man butts early on.
-
I saw most of the sequels.....and watched a few episodes of the tv show.....but it's time passed quickly for me.
I do remember the Academy Awards that year in which one of the musical numbers featured characters from POTA fighting over Oscars with folks dressed as characters from Romeo & Juliet.

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep, maybe.

Yes.

DR JohnG, how was the concert? Did the soprano break your heart in "Knoxville: Summer of 1915?"

I have had my shower bath and my jacket, jeans, and shirt are ready. The High School Alumni Dinner is tonight.....my sister and her daughter are going with me.

We were just discussing how we can even go to the funeral when we are both sick.

We want to be there for our cousin and her mother, but we don't want to give them this awful cold.

Nor do we want to travel feeling as we do.

I had a strange dream about being bullied by an old hag in a retirement home. I yelled "Get away from me!" at her, and then I woke up. I'm pretty sure I yelled out in real life, but it was muffled by my CPAP mask.
Have you asked yourself what you were doing there? And was the hag also wearing a CPAP?
-
DR VIXMOM I have used your potato recipe to make roasted potatoes in my Air Fryer. Most excellent.
What is the clean up like for pork chops in the Air Fryer?
They make paper inserts for air fryers that make clean-up a breeze.
-
DR Ron, I am pleased your allergist appointment went well.
Thank you. I, too, am rather happy about it. Hopeful it is all uphill from here.
-
How can today by the middle of April?
What happened to February???????

Good vibes it is all uphill from here.

I first saw "Planet of the Apes" in the summer of 1968.
I was working in a warehouse, and one of my summer student co-workers had seen it on its first night at the Carolina Theater in beautiful downtown Greenville SC.
She was utterly enthusiastic and resisted saying more than "You won't believe that last scene!!!"
Happily, I saw it on its first Saturday (matinee). The next morning in Sunday School, the ending was being brayed by a couple of morons who enjoyed ruining things for others.
-
Chairs are set up, shaving is done, showering to come.
-
DR JohnG, how was the concert? Did the soprano break your heart in "Knoxville: Summer of 1915?"
The concert was very nice. This was the first time i had heard the New Philharmonic. Not quite the level of the old symphony.
The singer was excellent. I think Barber broke my heart.
-
The first time I heard that piece, I think, it was sung by Leontyne Price.
-

You think that was bad? One of the DVD releases actually had that image on the cover!! :o

And there also was this cover:

At least, this second one is a documentary about the movie, so it's not the same thing...but still!
-

The concert was very nice. This was the first time i had heard the New Philharmonic. Not quite the level of the old symphony.

That Barber opus is so extraordinary! When the soprano gets to the line "One is my mother who is good to me." I completely lose it.
-
I have never seen Planet of the Apes.
-
The first time I heard that piece, I think, it was sung by Leontyne Price.
I first heard Dawn Upshaw, then I got Eleanor Steber's recording since she commissioned the work. I have Price's recording, but I hate the Hermit Songs.
The Barber song that completely reduces me to tears is "Sure on this dhining night."

Lasers were a huge scientific breakthrough originally, and now we use them to play with cats.
-
Likewise, computers were also a huge scientific breakthrough originally, and now we use them to view photos and videos of cats.
-
Shower's done.
-
I have never seen Planet of the Apes.
Nor I.
-
I adore Dawn Upshaw's recording of the Barber particularly.
-
But I have the others as well.
-
I have the Steber and the Price, but I think I only listened to the Price once long ago.
Damn it, now I'm thinking I heard Steber sing it live in Cleveland. I must go through my programs.
-
Planet of the Apes opened in - what, March or April of 1968? I'm almost positive I didn't see it until I was home for the summer from my first year at school... and where I saw it was at a drive-in, on a double bill with Fantastic Voyage which I had already seen several times the previous year. I believe I have the movie listing that matches up with that.
I loved it, but I didn't follow the movies back then. I may have seen one other one at a theeder, but I never really dived into the others until I had the DVDs and then Blu-rays. I also have the TV series on DVD but I don't think I've even watched it. I have no interest in the reboot(s).
-
Jane, so very sorry.
-
I posted a comment many hours ago on Deadline that didn’t get approved.
-
We saw Planet of the Apes at the Beverly Theater where it first played.
-
I liked it, especially the ending.
-
Jane, so very sorry.
Thank you.
-
Well, this is interesting...comments by DRs ChasSmith, Singdaw and John have shown up on the Deadline article, but mine still hasn't. :-\
-
I posted a comment many hours ago on Deadline that didn’t get approved.
I'm curious, Rodzinski. Did you enter an e-mail address?
-
And did ChasSmith, Singdaw and John? I don't know if that made a difference, but it's something to ponder.
-
I saw Planet of the Apes on the CBS late night movie or something when I was a kid. Blew my mind. Although the big gotcha moment with the doll always made me laugh. As if humans haven’t had many hundreds of toys of talking animals!
-
I did, George. It was a Hotmail one. Maybe those get rejected?
-
Later, in the late ‘70s, Chicago’s ABC affiliate would have “Apes Week” as part of the after-school 3:30 Movie (before afternoon TV was all newsmagazines and court shows). I watched the first five movies on there. Diminishing returns by the time Paul Williams showed up as an ape. I never saw the TV show, but my sister did have a gigantic puzzle from it. Like 3x4 feet with giant pieces.
The remakes look like shit with worse fx, and I never watched them and never will.
-
I suppose the first in the series is my favorite, though it has been a long time since I have watched them.
-
I enjoyed the reboot. It really feels like a different story.
-
I see that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be released in 2024.
-
I wish I would stop sneezing.
-
All the Planet of the Apes movies are rather sad.
-
On a sidenote, DR JohnG, James Agee, author of "Knoxville: Summer of 1915" and "Sure on this shining night," was considered by Hellman and bernstein for the lyrics to Candide.
-
Dropped some food off for FIL. He was sleeping and never knew I was there. Then to the hospital to check on MIL. Quite disconcerting. She’s such a proud woman, and hospital life just takes all of that away. Her pride also prevents her from telling nurses what’s wrong or asking for help. She can’t get out of bed by herself. Can’t see very well. Won’t eat. I don’t even know how we’ll get her home if they say she can leave. It’s bad.
-
Pierre Boulle, the French author who wrote Planet of the Apes, also wrote The Bridge Over the River Kwai.
-
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is such a terrible title!
-

This sounds very hard. Do your in-laws have any help at home? My father had someone who cared for him at home. When he was in the hospital she went with him to make sure he received the care he needed.
-
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is such a terrible title!
;D
-
It must be doubly hard for Mrs. Rodzinski not being able to go to the hospital.
-
We no longer have to feel guilty about not going to a funeral as there won't be one.

We have a short bench here, as they say in sports. Nobody backing us up. We’ve been wanting to get them a helper or have them move to a safer place, but they never wanted to admit they had gotten to this point. They’ve been one fall away from this outcome for a couple years, and here we are. It’s why we moved here, to be close, and to help, but it’s now worse than we can handle.

In Canada things like setting up home care visits and whatnot are very slow processes.
-

It doesn't sound like they can hire someone on their own.
-
You can only do so much, especially when you have young children. I understand their hesitancy to admit they need help and hope they now realize they need it.
-
Nice clip in the notes.

The sound was actually good on my computer, which was a pleasant surprise.

I didn't put in an e-mail at all.

I am glad you enjoyed the roasted potatoes

So, Monday is my niece's 39th birthday.
-
Tomorrow, both sides of her family will be getting together at my sister's (her mother) place to celebrate.
-
For her birthday present from me, she asked if I would buy her some lotion from eBay.
-
She bought this kind several years ago from some store, but they no longer carry the specific scents that she really likes.
-
Someone on eBay had some new bottles, and so I got her three bottles each of two different scents.
-
She came across them, and I got them for her a couple of months ago, so I didn't need to get her another gift for the party.
-
But I did get her something else, just to have something from me to open.

Page nine has arrived.

New notes are up.

I've seen them.

I've read them.

I wrote them.

Has George gone down a rabbit hole?

It'll be a fun afternoon.
-
Has George gone down a rabbit hole?
Maybe. ::)
-
But my sister would like me to go to Costco before the party to (again) do some shopping.
-
Have I?
-
No, but I did take the trash out.
-
I'll get her debit card first, go to Costco, then go back yo her hose before the party starts.
-
Out with the trash, say I.
-
Fortunately, it's only a couple of miles away.
