Well, you've read the notes, the notes were weird, and now it is time for you to post until the weird cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FIESTA!
-
Topic of the Day: not a particular fan of horror movies, but I really did enjoy The Shining with Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. I know I've seen some others, but I can't think of which ones.
-
Oh, I also really liked Get Out and John Carpenter's remake of The Thing.
-
And I did see and enjoy:
The Exorcist (the remastered original that was shown in the theaters)
Psycho (the original)
A Quiet Place
Zombieland
-
Well, today's going to be a day. I'm both ushering and working concessions downtown. For the ushering, from 2:00 - 4:15, it's just crowd control for the Washington Center's open house for Olympia's Spring Arts Walk, then from 4:15 until the movie starts, I'll be working concessions. The movie is Frozen II Sing Along. I'm picking up Margo so we only have to take one car, but finding a parking spot will be the issue. It's going to be a madhouse!

-
Good morning, friends.
-
Happy to make your acquaintance.

And a Very Happy 30th Birthday to The Vixter!! :D
DITTO!

The new car comes with a free 90-day trial subscription to Sirius XM. I'm interested in checking out the Broadway Channel with Seth Rudetsky's show, and of course the Metropolitan Opera Channel.
-
Revenge may be a dish best served cold, but so is cold sesame noodles. I wish I had some right now.
-
TOD: I don't like the horror genre.
-
I have seen The Shining, however.
-
I guess the television series Twin Peaks isn't horror, exactly, but I did enjoy that.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well. It's still too chilly to suit me, and I hope I'm not saying that three months from now.
-
Amazon Fresh, to my complete surprise, arrived at 6:20am. Lately, they've been arriving at the end of the time period requested, and I got sick of waiting untul 9:45 for a delivery between 8:00 and 10:00. So, I started to requewst the 6-8 spot, figuring an arrival sometime between 7:30 amd 8:00. Well, not today.
-
Happy to make your acquaintance.
But are you happy to keep our dinner warm?
-
Vixter 30? How did it all go by so fast?
-
I seem to be in a minority: I saw the national tour of Godspell in Cincinnati, 1972, and loved it. What was fresh 51 years ago may now be stale, but I found that production funny, silly, whimsical, and ultimately moving. I remember little about it now beyond the wonderful onstage band and the fence that comprised most of the set.
-
But are you happy to keep our dinner warm?
I am, indeed!
-
That reminds me of a joke which I really can't share in mixed company.
-
I certainly enjoyed DR vixmom's recounting of her theatergoing experience last night.
-
Even if she didn't enjoy the experience itself.
-
We have nothing to experience but experience itself.
-
TOD:
The Uninvited
Psycho
Let's Scare Jessica to Death
The Blair Witch Project
Carrie
Black Sunday
The Innocents
Sleepy Hollow
The Company of Wolves
Scarecrows
Don't Look Now
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Rosemary's Baby
The Woman in Black (original BBC version)
The Wicker Man
-
When I was younger, I loved horror films. They scared the hell out of me, gave me sleepless nights, and I preferred them to most other film genres. These days, I'm terrified to watch them alone.
-
Several months ago, I decided to reread The Woman in Black. After the first chapter, I decided it was too creepy to read at night and set it aside.
-

My new car (now almost 11 months old!) also came with a Sirius XM trial. I pretty much only listen to the Broadway channel and the MSNBC simulcast. I didn't really look at what all the channels are, but I'll definitely check our the Metropolitan Opera Channel. :)

Good morning, all.
-
Two (2) - count 'em! - shows today.
Between which, we get fed handsomely.
-
And I have a couple of things to get done beforehand, so I will be outta here soon.
-
I wasn't particularly attracted to Godspell back in the beginning, and I didn't make any effort to see it (neither stage nor film) for years. When I finally started paying it some attention, I still didn't really warm to it except for some of the music.
Wasn't it kind of like Coke and Pepsi, or Beatles and Stones, with Godspell and Superstar back in the early days? I ignored that one, too, initially, but pretty quickly became a JCS person.
-
Groceries put away, kitty cleanup finished, trash to the basement, and now I have to make a bed. Then I am off to the ballet.
-
And before we know it I will be off to the theeder. Saying it now, in case I don't have the chance later.

Vixter 30? How did it all go by so fast?
I know..right?
-
It is now Saturday, April 28th, in Johnston SC.
I am gobsmacked.
-
The only real activity I have planned is to go to the post office and then a ride to the recycling yard where I will unload a ton of cardboard material.
We used to have recycling pickup once a month here. As of the first of this year, however, that service has been cancelled. Too costly for the town budget. Happily, the County has nearby recycling yards for all manner of waste. It is well-maintained.
-
It is now time for coffee and a blueberry muffin.
-
Vixter 30? How did it all go by so fast?
I know..right?
Well, she's wrong about that. I met the Vixter a couple of times. She's only...somewhere around 18, I think? No, wait, probably 20 or 21.Yeah, that's it.
-
Okay, I'm off to carry a banner a couple of times, seize the day a couple of times, and Lord knows what else a couple of times.
I just do what I'm told. Cheers!
-
And a Very Happy 30th Birthday to The Vixter!! :D

This is my last day off for the summer......Of course I will have days when I don't have to go to the theeder.
But if I am cast in the show - the Two Act version DR GEORGE - I will be chained to the rehearsal schedule.....and at the end of that show, the show I am directing starts......with promotions and theeder chores in between......

I am enjoying the list of horror films.....and I will agree with so many of the choices.
My prime ones:
Psycho
Revenge of the Creature
The Twisted Nerve
The Fly & The Fly
The Birds
The Night Caller

I am making things in my kitchen.

I hope them to last for a few days.

They're not desserts, so it just might be possible.

I'm fairly fortunate that there are garbage and recycling dumpsters right behind my condo building. I can just walk it all back there. :)

Singdaw, I didn’t use your recipe. It didn’t have cornmeal in it. That’s what make it chess pie to me.

When I was in junior high they did a series of movies at lunch, showing about 15-20 minutes at a time. We could take popcorn in to eat with us.

When I did have Sirius XM (I cancelled when they dropped my 40's station) I discovered the trick to get good deals. They would send a renewal amount, I would call and speak to the cancel department, and they would offer a much better deal than the original renewal offer.

Sweet. There is a character in Jane Smiley’s Perestroika in Paris that reminds of this.

Hello, everyone.
-
Happy Birthday to the Vixter, however old she claims to be.
Lovely photos of her, too.
-
Hi, John G.
-
BK mentioned how fun the 1958 THE FLY was. Fun? I was frightened for months!
I am not a fan of horror movies, largely as a result. I find real life scary enough.
-
My downstairs neighbor, Zen, has died. He was about 80, a feisty, independent Filipino man, with whom I was friends. Many years ago I fell on the stairs and not only sprained my ankle, but bruised my left leg all the way to my knee. I couldn’t get up or down the stairs for two months. It was Zen who brought me my mail every day and even did my laundry for two months. (He refused to fold it; he left that to me.) He didn’t drive, so I would do little errands for him at times and, as he grew frail I’d try to keep an eye on him.
-
It’s a delicate balance, I think, of helping someone without being pushy or overbearing. I value privacy and independence, and I suspect he appreciated that. We got along, even though some others did not.
-
My downstairs neighbor, Zen, has died.
I am sorry for the loss of your friend and neighbor.
-
I’ll miss him, but I think he chose a good time to leave us. He was in pain much of the time and his doctors did surprisingly little to help him. His social worker brought him medical marijuana, which was a real sore point with the building manager. He’d reached a point where things were likely to go downhill quickly. I’m glad he was spared that.
RIP, Zen.
-
Thank you, Jane.
-
I must take a little walk.
TTFN.
-
Guess I'll go to the mail place before they close.
-
Back from picking up two important envelopes.

It was nice of the social worker to deliver a legal substance to help the poor man. I do not like to be around marijuana, if it helped someone I would deal with it.

I must take a little walk.
TTFN.
Same here.
-
It is cooling down drastically tomorrow, from a sunny 80 degrees to a cloudy 66.
-
You are welcome Vixmom.
-
And of course a very happy birthday to the Victor, whose real age, I believe is ten.
Victor?
:D
Well on behalf of the Vixter, I thank you!
-
Happy Birthday to the Vixter, however old she claims to be.
Lovely photos of her, too.
Thank you Jeanne!
-
Condolences on your loss, DR Jeanne.

It was very busy on the walking path on this warm Saturday evening.

Very very close.

TEN!
-
Can, I could really go for a slice of peanut butter chess pie right about now.
-
But I'd settle for a kumquat.
-
Does anyone still wear a kumquat?
-
What am I nattering on about?
-
One would think I had a dental appointment.
-
Perhaps I am blathering on nitrous oxide.
-
:)
-
Well, there's still Sunday.
-
I am very glad that BK's important envelopes arrived.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Good night Singdaw
-
Visited with WFO for a while today
-
RIP, Zen. Sorry for your loss, Jeanne.
-
How is WFO, Vixmom?
-
Watching Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto, part of The Samurai Trilogy. Toshiro Mifune stars. He was perfect for these movies. The color is excellent.
-
Don't forget to check out the list of Blu-rays on the other page here.
-
The pie went over well. Good stuff.

I love People on Sunday. Beautiful look at the German middle class before the Nazi era. And it was great seeing Berlin’s Ku’dammstrasse so long before I got to visit it.
-
I bought a copy for Mom, which I packed up from the house before she sold it.
-
Listening to Killers of the Flower Moon, a true crime look at the early years of the FBI and killings of Osage Indians in Oklahoma.
-
You can let her know that the peanut butter chess pie has just gone into the oven.
I would love a recipe for that pie. I love chocolate chess pie, and Peanut Butter would be heaven.
-
BTW, another review written last SUNDAY, just showed up.

I’m tired.
-
I may not make it through Samurai I.
-
But I can make it to the next page.
-
At least I think I can.
-
Mifune has just been surrounded while in his bath.
-
Great lighting for that scene, followed by a cool sword fight.
-
Gratuitous post 300!
-
Also known as 11!
-
Ice time.
-
Good night, all.
-
And now, I must shower and get dressed so that I may usher then work concessions at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.
Be back later!
It's later and I'm back!
-
Good night, all.
Good night, John.
-
Well, the first part of the volunteering was boring (as expected).
-
The Washington Center was open as an art gallery for Olympia's spring Arts Walk event.
-
My part was just being a presence and making sure no one went into the theater, and answering any questions that patrons might have.
-
And they did have a few.
-
The concessions part of the evening (the FROZEN II preshow) wasn't as boring, but there wasn't a lot of concessions sales where I was stationed.
-
I'm sure that the main concessions bar did a lot more business, which is fine...it's all one pot o' money.
-
For the movie preshow event, my friend Lauren was the announcer (she was in costume) and was very engaging to all the kids in the audience.
-
I didn't see any of this because I was still selling at and then breaking down the concessions srea.
-
But Lauren had anyone who was in costume come onstage and show off their costumes.
-
It was announced that this would be part of the evening, and a lot of kids did come down...and almost as many parents (mostly moms...also in costume).
-
They all got to show off their costumes and take pictures, then they were all sent back to their seats to get ready for the main event, the FROZEN II Sing-Along!
-
The movie is still pretty good.
-
There were lyrics on the screen for all the songs (of course), and there was a lot of "singing" ::) from the audience, which was fine.
-
;D
-
There was no intermission, so when the movie ended, I drove Margo to her home and now I'm at my home. :)
-
Tomorrow, I'm ushering again, but for the silent movie, Robin Hood, with live organ music accompaniment.
-
That's going to be good.
-
And now, time to ketchup on today's posts!
-
I did it. I had to. I topped the pie with a chocolate ganache.
Yum!!
-
She was constantly staying near the fish market and watching people come to buy fish. She took a leaf that fell from the tree and came to the owner. On the first day, surprised, he took her "money" and gave her a fish. From that day on, every morning she comes with a leaf to "buy" fish.

That is so sweet!

This is "The Little Church around the Corner" at 29th Street between Fifth & Madison Avenue. I attended something there in the 1980s, maybe a rehearsal. It's so beautiful.

That really is!
-
I love this!

Well on behalf of the Vixter, I thank you!
If Vixter had been a boy, would you be “Vic’smom”?

Took the kids to another kid’s birthday party this afternoon. The parents gave the kids kites and we went out and flew them. That was fun.
-
Kites are fun, just as the Free Design song says.
