Well, you've read the notes, the notes zoomed by, and now it is time for you to post until the zooming cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EXPEDITE!

Notes envisioned. Gleaned.

Good morning, friends!
-
DR Rodzinski - i do LOVE The Free Design. Have all of their albums.
-
Chocolate and peanut butter together - what a combination!
-
I dreamed that i was riding the NYC subway with DR elmore3003. He got off at Times Square, so I jumped off, as well - but then I couldn't find him.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I decided last night that we would sleep in this morning. Annabelle agreed since she loves sleeping under the blankets with me, and since she runs the place, Thatch and Stella went along with it.
-
So, I got up just before 7:00, so I got around nine and a half hours sleep. My schedule will be off by an hour today, but I am content with that.
-
Last night I had a dream about the Houston Grand Opera's Babes in Toyland, which I supervised and which remains one of my unhappiest work experiences. The dream wasall about trying to locate the misdsing orchestra parts for the new finaletto I had written.
-
I also dreamed that I had decided, once this hip replacement was over, to move back to Ohio. I would close the apartment, leave the keys with Ann and Jen, and move to Ohio where I would pay my NYC bills via internet. Then I would decide whether I wanted to move back to NYC or give yp the apartment and stay in Ohio. There were no cat concerns in the dream.
-
DR singdaw, since the last time I saw you was in 2010, when we recorded Rebecca Luker's song with the men at the Academy of Arts and Letters, I would very much enjoy a subway ride with you.
-
DR Jeanne, I am so sorry to read about your neighbor Zen. He sounds like a terrific person.
-
I think I've rambled on enough for now.
-
That's never stopped me.

The brilliant arranger and orchestrator Don Sebesky has died. I met him at a Boston Pops rehearsal for either Sarah Jessica Parker or Nathan Lane. Besides being a fantastic artist, he had the worst handwritten manuscripts I've ever encountered. In 1993, I proofread his scores for Cyrano: The Musical when the show was copied by Chelsea Music Service, and they were impossible to read. One day I proofread the newly copied band parts to "Moonsong," and nothing seemed right, from chords to notes. I walked with Don Oliver to the theatre where the piece was read down by the orchestra. It remains one ogf the most ravishing and magical things I have ever heard. RIP, Don Sebesky.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Condolences, Elmore.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I saw the Don Sebesky news late last and was too beat to even log in. Very sorry to hear.

Does anyone knows w if they are using Sebesky’s arrangements for the Parade revival?

DR Elmore, good story.
Who else would you include in the Worst Handwritten Manuscripts lineup?

Hello and Happy Sunday to one and all! There's a new Broadway Radio Show up on the website. Our illustrious BRUCE KIMMEL joins me to chat about SAMI the series, working with Cindy Williams, Stephen Sondheim, Dame Edna and much more!

Happy Sunday, Donald.

Let’s move on …

-
Does anyone knows w if they are using Sebesky’s arrangements for the Parade revival?
There's a tribute post by JRB in the Musical Theatre Orchestration group that says yes.
-
Do any of you do other word puzzles besides wordle? I also like quordle (4 words), dordle (2 words) and canuckle (Canadian word).
-
Sunday.
-
Getting it together for auditions.
-
Hopefully back in time to ZOOM.
I have updated my application.
-
It is supposed to rain here for the next 4 days. I need sun or I find it affects my mood. I plan to use my light therapy lamp a lot. I've only had it for a few months. Does anyone else use light therapy?
-
Enjoying the radio show! Great conversation.
-
Does anyone knows w if they are using Sebesky’s arrangements for the Parade revival?
They are. Jason Robert Brown loved Sebesky.
-
DR Elmore, good story.
Who else would you include in the Worst Handwritten Manuscripts lineup?
Offhand, I can't think of seeing worse manuscript. Of the manuscripts I've looked at, and I cannot remember all of the names now, Victor Herbert's is almost as bad as Sebesky; his orchestrators Harold Sanford and Otto Langey were much cleaner and cleaner to read. Russell Bennett's is very neat, and Phil Lang's is also. Don Walker's is messier. I've seen Michael Gibson's, Sid Ramin's and Irwin Kostal's but they left no impression after all this time. Jonathan Tunick's is amazingly neat, like Ravel.
-
After listening to BK and DR Donald's interview, I did a spot-check on the various recordings of "Multitudes of Amys," and all of them, including Sondheim's own (on Sondheim Sings Sondheim) use either BK's/DR elmore3003's extended playout, or some version thereof.
-
Just finished listening. That was QUITE the interview, with good conversation and good information.

I orchestrated it twice: originally for Muchael Rupert and several years later for Sean McBermott.

And now it's almost time for me to get ready to go see Marat/Sade, and I must get something to eat beforehand.
I'll be back in time for the Zoom.

Thank goodness I checked in just now.

Where did THAT day go?

Steal the conductor's score. I love Marat/Sade! I once orchestrated a show for Richard Peaslee, who really shat on me. I still love his music but nt the man.

Oh no! I love Don’s work! He pops up on so many records I have and did some great jazz work of his own and with others on Creed Taylor’s CTI label.

I'd always like to be stealing a conductor's score, thankyouverymuch. :)
But would there actually be something other than the piano/vocal (which I found online at some point)?

Jason Robert Brown gives us this link to the Sebesky full score of "The Old Red Hills of Home".

There's more in the score than the printed score, and the band orchestration - harmonium, trumpet, guitar, flute, tuba, percussion - is wonderful.

No. Michigan doesn't get a whole lot of sun. When we lived there I knew a number of people who used it and said it helped.

-
Sorry to hear about Jeanne's neighbor.
-
I worked with Sebesky on Bells Are Ringing's revival cast album. Very nice guy, a little tense at the session thanks to the producers, The Maxwells, but we got through it in record time, the fastest cast album session we ever did. I was very effusive in my praise of his 1960s albums and arrangements for others.
-
Well, I must get myself ready for today's ushering. Hopefully, I'll be back in time for the Zooming.
Until later!
-
What is this hopefully I'll be back in time malarkey? I based this on everyone's schedule. I do hope you'll all be there because otherwise no peas and porridge.

Yes. The Snow Queen, a beautiful script by Adrian Mitchell.

I love his work on Symphonic Sondheim, but it really needs a complete remastering on CD - it's low volume and distant sound do no favors for those great charts. One I'd love to get my hands on, but alas...

Did anyone mention that today is Sheldon Harnick's 99th birthday?

That's amazing!

Wordle: 4/6

The play was fantastic.
What a great great introduction to Marat/Sade. Absolutely riveting.
And yes, DR Elmore, the music is wonderful. Sadly, no conductor score. Because: no conductor. Because: no band. Because: just a piano (keyboard). The guy played it fine, but I sure would like to have a go at it sometime.
I'm speaking from some ignorance here regarding this play, but though I'm a huge proponent of musicals being portrayed (excellently) on duo pianos or even just piano, it seems to me that this particular play would lend itself to perhaps mixing it up a little bit with, say, some harmonium, or organ? Maybe some harp or something? I dunno... I'll have to take out my Caedmon set and listen to the original band.
-
I have to try NOT to just see things on their closing day. There are so many times I wish I could return to something. And I certainly used to do that before I got so active in theeder myself.
-
Ninety minutes to Zoom.

Nodded off for thirty minutes.

USPS lost a package on April 10, and today I got an email from Amazon saying an order had been delivered to my door today. They kindly enclosed a photo of it sitting in fornt of a door. Only there are two problems with the photo: my door doesn't sit against a wall and there's no floor like that in my building!

In the original production, the band was onstage and dressed as inmates. Peter Weiss deliberately requested a stange assortment of instruments.

One hour to Zoom.
-
I've had that happen with DoorDash - they say they left the order and provide a photo of it at the door. Three times it wasn't my door.

Same here with packages. We fortunately know how to recognize one of the neighbor's doors in the photo now.

Which makes total sense. This guy was in the downstage corner "kind of" dressed as an inmate.

Oh, my goodness! :o

We don't need no stinkin' hair.
-
That was fun.
-
Happy birthday, Sheldon Harnick!
-
The Zoom thing was delightfully delightful.
-
Very nice Zoom session, indeed.
-
I believe there was a brief Stella sighting on the Zoom machine.
-
Well the ZOOM was fun.
Thanks to MR BK for hosting.
It was great to see so many DR's faces and hear them speak!
Congrats SAMI!!!
-
I believe there was a brief Stella sighting on the Zoom machine.
There was. We always knew she craved to steal the spotlight from Annabelle!
-
I believe there was a brief Stella sighting on the Zoom machine.
There was? I kept trying to get Thatch to jump up and say hello.
-

I kept looking over to see if Mikey was going to crawl out from under the blankets. He'd been taking a nap and it was time for him to come out and demand his evening meal. Now, of course, he's up.
-
And demanding.
-
Mikey helped us turn the page, at least.
-
That was much fun indeed! BK knows the most interesting people. Back when Vampire Lesbians of Sodom was playing, I worked at The Drama Book Shop with a friend of Charles Busch, and after every one of his shows, we'd go backstage and visit. After Paige died, whenever I run into Charles, he always behaves as though he has no idea who I am. I decided to say nothing to him tonight.
It was great to see Sal and Kerri, whom I met at Rob Berman's 40th birthday party in 2010, I think, and I love Richard Allen. I miss his takes on the Kritzerland at Home videos. They always made me laugh. I think he's very talented.
-
To SIX.
-
Saw Stella. No Thatch. No Annabelle.
-
Saw Stella. No Thatch. No Annabelle.
DR John G. is kicking ass and taking names.
-
I did see Tami's dog, too. What a beauty.
-
Now back to my Samurai trilogy. Maybe I'll make it through part 1 tonight. The score is really beautiful. By someone named Ikuma Dan.
-
Saw Stella. No Thatch. No Annabelle.
When did she pop up high enough for the camera to ctch her?
-
Saw Stella. No Thatch. No Annabelle.
When did she pop up high enough for the camera to ctch her?
Shortly after the beginning, she just strolled in and laid down behind you.
-
Had so much fun! Nice to see Ginny there, too.
-
Eating the small Marco's pepperoni pizza now. Very good.
-
I want a small Marco's pepperoni pizza.
-
And I want an extra weekend day.
-
But neither are likely to happen.
-
Alas.
-
Good night, friends.
-
I am enjoying reports from the Zoom meeting.
-
'night
-
Got a call from a friend, so I still ahven't finished Samurai I. Maybe now.
-
I am so disappointed, I wanted to be there but this stupid fatigue caught me again and I fell asleep
-
Let's not get stuck on page six.
-
Ridic
-
Simply ridic
-
And?
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Well?
-
A dearth of postings.
-
George and his reality will have to atone later, oh, yes, he will have to atone later.
-
But not on page six.
-
No gaslighting!
-
See?
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
George and his reality will have to atone later, oh, yes, he will have to atone later.
On the positive side, the Douglas Fairbanks (Sr.) Robin Hood with live organ music was very good and definitely worth seeing.
-
Sounds like fun, George.
-
I did make it to Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple.
-
Made one year later with the same cast and director, it is a very different movie. This one starts out far less realistically than the other movie. Very much filmed on sets. But it's just as intense.
-
Now I want to watch the whole movie.
-
But I am too tired.
-
And too tired to move us off page seven.
-
Unlucky seven.
-
Good night, all.
-
Sounds like fun, George.
It was!
-
And what was really cool is that the organist, Dennis James, played an organ reduction of the actual score that was written in 1922 for this specific movie...and he was playing from s copy of the actual conductor's full score!
-
Page seven will not do, Mr. Reality Man.
-
You missed our Zoom when I based it on everyone's schedule, therefore you must ATONE.
-
And I'm afraid that will require no rabbit holes as well as getting us off page seven, which, by the way, I do not care for.
-
And yet.
-
Rabbit holes have been gone down.
-
Atonement has not begun.
-
We are our own silent movie.
-
All we need is the organ accompaniment.
-
And yet.
-
Here we sit like so much unproductive fish.
-
I tried watching several thing to no avail. One simply must be in the mood.
-
And I was not in the mood.
-
Clearly.
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
I think there may be.
-
Gaslighting 101.
-
I'm calling you OUT gaslighting.
-
See?
-
I'm now going to watch the Carol Burnett special.
-
Showing the audience in a little square during the clips it kind of annoying. Just show the clips!
-
I didn't realize that Bernadette Peters and Kristin Chenoweth are almost the same height.
-
The Super Mario Bros movie was not very good. I took some heat from the fam for demanding some more intelligence in the screenplay, but I gotta opine what I gotta opine. The kids liked it. And it’s going to be one of the highest grossing things ever, so my thoughts matter little here.
-
Glad to hear the Zoom went well. Wish I could’ve seen that instead of Mario and Luigi.
-
The Old Spaghetti Factory was nice. There used to be some of these in the states, but they’re mostly gone, I think. In Canada, still a thing.
-
I will never understand grosses like that for movies like that. It's like there are only these kinds of films. Paramount released its schedule for the rest of the year and 98% of the list is the same kind of thing.
-
I literally fell asleep for 10-15 min of the movie. I have no idea how Donkey Kong showed up in the plot.
-
On the Carol Burnett special, it was pretty cool to have Aileen Quinn and Bernadette Peters reunite. :)
-
I just woke up at some point and Donkey Kong was part of the good guys.
-
Kids love this stuff but the plot was so unimaginative.
-
I’m inevitably disappointed when they make these modern clip shows. I love Carol Burnett too much to have someone tell me what she meant to me. I’ll stick with YouTube clips.

Ok, Mrs R would have enjoyed that!
-
How many attended the zoom call? Who was the most charming?
-

That's true...but there have been a few clips that I don't remember ever seeing, so that's been fun.
-
The Zoom chat list is in the about to be posted notes. There were quite a few people. And some no-shows who said they'd be there but weren't - both cast and others.
-
But it was a nice turnout.
-
And now - I do not wish to be on this page anymore.
-
What can be done about that?
-
I've been out of Diet Coke for six days - not good.
-
A page too far…
-
Or not far enough…
-
A couple of days ago I bought some of the plastic 16oz bottles. But I NEED it. Every damn day.
-
I've gone through all the Sparking Ice I had and the only thing that's left is water and Diet cream soda.
-
I don't know.
-
Gotta get you a case of bottles
-
Don't ask me.
-
Tomorrow is Diet Coke day.
-
And other necessaries.
-
A gross of soda
-
At least we got to page nine.
-
Here I thought we were at 10, but it is only 9.
-
It could be ten.
-
There are three of us.
-
But only two of us are posting. We need all three.
-
We just do.
-
I do not eat popcorn, not since I was a kid watching Carol Burnett with my family on Saturday night. So at the movie today, I ate a whole sack of peanut M&Ms. No regrets.
-
But I can tell you that posting-wise this will have been in the top six largest posting months at around 8900 posts. To beat that, you have to go all the way back to 2008!
-
That's what I'M talkin' about.
-
George has gone down some damn rabbit hole. Guess it's up to us.
-
My preference for movie theaters is Sno-Caps. But Canada doesn’t have those.
-
We're not halfway.
-
We can get this to 10
-
I used to love Sno-Caps.
-
And Flicks.
-
Single digits are no longer an option
-
And frozen U-No bars.
-
Now we're inching closer.
-
Single digit posting days should be banned by decree
-
Inch by inch, putting it together.
-
Sno-Caps are non-pareils.
-
I'm still full from pizza - oh, and the strawberry cheesecake slice.
-
Which always struck me as a fancy name for a candy.
-
Forgot to mention that little item but I wanted a treat after all the crap I've eaten this week.
-
I want Sno-Caps NOW.
-
And Flicks.
-
Does anyone still make a Flicks?
-
I had spumoni today, also. A new one for me.
-
I haven't seen them in ages.
-
Page ten at long last.
-
Did you ever have an It’s-It? Up in the Bay Area?
-
Ice cream sandwich covered in chocolate
-
Never heard of that.
-
We made 10 in no time.
-
Eskimo ice cream things are good.
-
George has gone down some damn rabbit hole. Guess it's up to us.
Still watching the Carol Burnett special.
-
And the classic Drumsticks.
-
The It’s-It factory is right near SFO on 101.
-
I could eat those all day.
-
Lyle Waggoner on there?
-
Sure could use a damn Diet Coke right NOW.
-
Haven't left the house today.
-
I'm enjoying it, but do question some of the guests, like Katy Perry. ::)
-
Lindsay Wagner?
-
Five of the Blu-rays are sold.
-
Boy she fell off the map
-
So that was good. No room at the inn - must get rid of stuff. I should really get rid of the damn DVDs - boxes and boxes and boxes of 'em.
-
I fell off a map once. It was disorienting.
-
I'm enjoying it, but do question some of the guests, like Katy Perry. ::)
This is what I’m talking about. What knows Katy Perry about Carol?
-
Lyle Waggoner on there?
They had clips of him. He died in 2020.
-
I got rid of most of my DVDs.
-
Lyle Waggoner on there?

Go know!
-
Must get to bed by one at the latest.
-
I'm enjoying it, but do question some of the guests, like Katy Perry. ::)
This is what I’m talking about. What knows Katy Perry about Carol?
Or Carol about Katy??
-
We're close.
-
Surprisingly close.
-
I feel it in my bones.
-
Eskimo ice cream things are good.
Agreed!
-
What it is doing in my bones is another story.
-
Page eleven!
-
And?
-
They had a Sesame Street 50th Anniversary on PBS, and it was hosted by Joseph, the kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun. And somehow they made it all about him!
-
I want FLICKS!
-
Must look up Flicks.
-

I think I was able to capture that from PBS's website, but I didn't actually watch it. ::)
-
And guess what - after years of no Flicks, they make them again - a four pack costs twenty bucks.
-
Sometimes dad would bring us kids Marathon Bars to eat for Saturday night tv viewing.
-
Flicks look good!
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
My Friend Flicks was a good movie.
-
I wrote them.
-
And guess what - after years of no Flicks, they make them again - a four pack costs twenty bucks.
Yikes! :o
-
To da notes!
-
Yes, notes must be read!
