Well, you've read the notes, the notes announced the winner, and now it is time for you to post until the winning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FANFARE!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Notes imbibed. Scarfed.
-
I fell asleep whilst putting my youngest to sleep and missed all the fun of yesterday’s closing pages. Went right to the notes. Great news about another award!
-
BK, as the creator of Sami, are you privy to how many views each episode has or any such data?
-
Quite enjoyed the bloopers! Want more!
-
But what can ya do if nobody blooped?
-
Belated birthday wish for Fred, FJL. My old neighbor in Hell’s Kitchen.
-
Erstwhile, I should say. Not old!
-
Congrats to the great JRand on his being cast, and best of luck navigating that annoying crew member.
-
Sami's mom did the Amazon stuff so she sees those figures. They don't really keep it up to date, unfortunately, in terms of minutes watched or how many actual sales. but I suspect by now we're over 10,000 minutes watched, probably well over.
-
I spent much of yesterday battling the Hitchcockian swallows that have been attacking my house. I think I now have a good set-up to keep them off our lighting fixtures and porch. Time will tell. They are savvy critters.
-

I guess what you’d like to see is no dropoff of views from the first to last episode. So you know viewers who start it watch the whole thing.
-
It’s a short show to binge, but not everyone watches that way, so it wouldn’t be an iron-clad metric yet, but a general consistency of episode views would be a delightful sign.
-
The bloopers made me want to ask, was the chemistry between Sami and Sammy pretty natural/quick to gel, or did it take time to establish? They’re instantly believable as old buddies.
-
They went to school together, so they had chemistry to begin with, but we saw a lot of tapes for that role - he was the only one who didn't push anything and was real AND funny. My only problem with both Sami and Sammy was getting them to understand that the energy for the show is heightened, that there has to be a certain vocal energy. That took a lot of the first day's shooting to get them there and then I only had to reiterate it occasionally.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
BK, what good news about the award! I hope they keep coming in.
-
The Hitchcockian Swallows should be the title of something-or-other.
-
All my money is still in my bank account this morning, so I think the scammers were thwarted.
-
My Dublin friends have arrived. They want me to come to lunch tomorrow at noon on East 39th Street. I emailed this morning to say if there was one place I did not want to be ay high noon it's the area around Grand Central: traffic is terrible on the streets and sidewalks.
-
:)
-
Sounds sensible, DR elmore3003. I hope alternate accommodations can be organized.
-
Good morning
-
Today is more of the ballet; I'm still stuck in No. 15, the end of Scene Four.
-
:)
:D
-
I need a barber excursion, and I had hoped to tie it in with a trip to Staples and luncheon with my Dublin friends. I think that's now out of the question.
-
On Friday moring, I need lab work for next week's doctor's appointment, so maybe I'll see the barber on Friday.
-
TWO.
-
~~~MORE NICE-THING-HAPPENING VIBES~~~ for the likes of BK!!!!!!
-
I hope you have a nice visit with your friends Elmore!
-
I don’t usually have much Of a breakfast, or breakfast at all but this morning I was feeling really hungry
-
So currently enjoying over easy eggs with seeded rye toast with cream cheese
-
And coffee
-
Guess I’ll wordle
-
Good morning, all.
-
Many more congratulations, BK and Sami company!
-
I’m tired.
-
I’m getting too old to usher on work nights.
-
Billy Porter is coming in on a Friday. That’s better.
Reminds me of Drood.
Speaking of Drood, the brain leaps to Rupert Holmes. I’m on disc 8 of Murder Your Employer. There are 12. It’s still fun. It would never have been so enjoyable, IMo, had there not been the school structure of the Harry Potter books. It’s not a copy, just a smart use of something that works.
Congrats to SAMI and MR BK on their total vanquishing of the competition!
-
Tonight is our read thru for THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG and we shall see how it goes.
There were a couple of really good folks who did not make the cut.....but since I am not the director it is not my place to ask why.
Perhaps scheduling had something to do with it.
-
Blood sugar is fine this morning.
But I never want to take two pills at once EVER AGAIN.....the resulting excitement is too much to deal with.
-
So on non-rehearsal days I will take three pills - but I will take them at 6 hour intervals.
-
I enjoyed reading about MR BK's New York Adventure.
-
I need to try on my white tie & tails - I think I can wear that in the play.....
-
So, the Texas shooter was arrested in a town called Cut and Shoot.
It boggles the mind.
-
Totally understand. And empathize.
-
Off, off, damned page.
-
Three!
-
Or something like that.
-
So, George, how are you celebrating your birthday?
-
I find that, sitting too much at my work desk at a time, striking the "Evita" pose is rejuvenating.
The dress, though, doesn’t work if you sit in it too long.
-
Well my PSA for the day.
Dr Feldman's suggestion that I put Vapo Rub on my toenails has after only a couple of days yielded great results!
Who knew? I would say by the weekend I will have the toenails of a 29 year old.
-
And THEN he'll propose marriage?
-
The dress, though, doesn’t work if you sit in it too long.
Don't you know it!
-
And those unsightly wrinkles destroy that whole Met Gala look you’ve been cultivating.
-
Good morning all. Most of you might not know who I am anymore. I was a regular around here in the days of old.
Another regular back in my days was dear Tom Birkeland. I found out this morning that Tom has sadly passed away. I do not have details, unfortunately, but I wanted to let you all know.
-
Oh my goodness, I just saw his nephew's post on TCB's FB page.
I am so upset.
-
:-X
DR Ann, thank you for passing on this sad news.
-
What a dear man. Quick of wit and a much-beloved HHW patron.
-
DR TCB's last post was April 25th - just a week ago.
-
So, George, how are you celebrating your birthday?
On Thursday, I'm meeting some former co-workers for lunch to ketchup and celebrate; then Friday, I'll probably go out to lunch with a couple of friends; then on Saturday, the family is celebrating at my mom's house.
-
Oh, no. :'(
-
Good afternoon, all.
Not that it's all that good now, reading this terrible news.
-
So sad to hear about TCB
-
Tom Birkeland is dead?
Oh, shit! Say it ain't so!
-
This is devastating news.
-
Tom's cousin posted this on his Facebook page:
I have just learned that my cousin, Tom Birkeland, has died. He was so talented and caring. When we were young we would sit in a tent in the backyard and pretend we were dining at the Space Needle - we couldn't imagine anything fancier than that. 50 years later we did it for real - such a great memory.
His great love was the theater. I remember seeing him perform in A Thousand Clowns at the Tacoma Little Theater when he was only 9. He kept performing there, and lots of different theaters in the Puget Sound area, for the next 60 years.
He will be greatly missed, by many many people.
-
I was always hoping that we could be in a show together, and was looking forward to him seeing Sunday in the Park with George that Jed and I are in.
-
George - I know what you mean. I love that you and Jed are working together.
Tom was a dear, gentle man. He was the one who brought Jed into the Tacoma theatre scene all those years ago with Annie Get Your Gun. We will miss him greatly.
-
I am so sad. I was just thinking this morning that I hope Tom posts today.
-
Thank you, Ann.
-
I cant stop crying
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Neither can I :'(
-
I let former DR Jose know.
-
DR Ann, thank you for sharing the news with us. It is comforting seeing you here.
-
Can someone please reach out to former DR MBarnum?
-
I, too, am devastated. Is there a way to have an online wake? I am trying to think of a way to honor him. Any ideas?
-
Ann, thank you for taking the time to tell us. When I first saw your post I thought, “Oh good, Ann’s back.” Then I read about Tom. Tom was an active poster; we all knew him.
So, so sorry to hear this news.
-
I let former DR Jose know.
Thank you, Sing.
-
A chirpy greeting seems so inappropriate right now. I am very sad to hear of DR TCB’s passing.
-
I hope Tom's cats are ok and find a good home.
-
Sasha on the left, Draco on the right.
I hope Tom's cats are ok and find a good home.
Jane, I know two of Tom’s close friends were at his house last night and are helping to care for and rehome the kitties. They are in good hands.
-
I cant stop crying
I finally stopped.
-
When I was going through financial crises the past couple of years, TCB was one of several generous and kind DRs who surprised me with an occasional Paypal gift of money. I had done the same for him when I was working at Toyland between 2010 and 2015 when I closed the place. I am so devastated by his death. He was the best of the best.
-
I hope Tom's cats are ok and find a good home.
Jane, I know two of Tom’s close friends were at his house last night and are helping to care for and rehome the kitties. They are in good hands.
Thank you Ann. I feel better that I don't have to worry about them.
-
It was a relief knowing Tom had neighbors that watched out for him. I wish he could have called them for help. Most of all, I hope his passing was easy.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Dear DR Ann, the circumstances are awful, but it’s nice to have you here…
-
I'm so so sorry to hear about TCB, one of my favorite dear readers all these years. I know he was dealing with a lot of issues, health-wise, and we'd all always worry when he'd go off the radar for a few days, but he always came back. RIP, dear Tom, and I know we'll all miss him greatly. Thanks to Ann for letting us know.
If anyone thinks having a Tom Zoom haineshisway memorial, I'm more than happy to set that up.
-
I am not really in the mood to catch up on the posts prior to the sad news.
-
The first post I read from last night gave me a much needed chuckle.
From DR George:
Sounds like where you'd be sent after a Star Trek transporter accident. ;D
I am glad he was found. Your governor is making headlines for his comments through all of this. You must be so proud ;)
So did I.
Thank you, Ann.
Such terrible news. A member of the family.
I shall email MBARNUM.
TCB's review of Sami showed up on Amazon late last night. Here it is: "What a delightful surprise! A new series on Prime Video called SAMI. The tital character, Sami, played by Sami Staitman (a knockout performer), plays a young lady living and working in New York and trying to land a Broadway show. She goes through "temp" jobs, unusual auditions, and a Facebook commercial that she may never live down. Filmed in New York and L.A., the show is light and funny and features a lot of familiar faces. In addition to Ms. Staitman, the show features Kerry O'Malley, Karim Hazime, and in what may be her final performance, the great Cindy Williams as Grandma. This all too brief series features Sami singing some wonderful new songs written by the show's creator and director, Bruce Kimmel. The song, "Simply" sung by Sami is a total showstopper. I hope this is just the beginning of more and more episodes to come. Five stars doesn't seem like nearly enough. Bravo!"
And yes, he was family. I remember him asking me way back in 2006 if I was interested in him coming here to play General Mills in The Brain and of course I said yes, but he couldn't manage the trip. I know he would have been terrific. I'm grateful we got to meet in person and dine when I did a book signing up there, which was the last time I saw Ann, too, I think.
-
Dear BK - the last time I had the pleasure of seeing you in person was when Brain From Planet X was staged in Olympia. I believe that was 2010? Something like that.
-
Page 5 dance
-
Oh no. Just catching up… and caught up to the worst of news. Damn it.
-
DR Ann-
Hope you remember me from back in the olden days. I only recently resurfaced here after many years, and I’m so glad I did. Although I was FB friends with Tom, it was great seeing him back in the habitat in which we met. His kindness and greatness were always on display. Not often enough lately, and now we know why. He was much loved.
-
He was much loved.
-
Oh no. Just catching up… and caught up to the worst of news. Damn it.
Yes :(
-
Sitting here with tears running down my face. You ever just know innately someone is a great person? I hoped there would be cause and a way I could meet him now that I’m in Wash. I knew the health wasn’t good, but when he’d come around to post, it was all his usual good humor. He was and will always be the #1 Tom here.
-
I felt sad thinking you would not get to meet him, so close too :(
I always looked forward to logging in to HHW in the morning to see what DR TCB had got up to here the night before.
-
He always went for the laugh, and was always successful.
-
As others have said, he was gentle, kind, and generous.
-
I always read what he posted imagining the twinkle in his eye.
-
I hope he knew how much all of us here loved him. Simply.
-
All so true DR singdaw.
-
I shall soon be on my way to the read thru - and be even more grateful that I am still around and doing theatre......
Thanks for sharing this, Jrand! Tacoma Little Theatre is now run my my (and Tom's) friend Chris, who is from Olympia.
-
Dear BK - the last time I had the pleasure of seeing you in person was when Brain From Planet X was staged in Olympia. I believe that was 2010? Something like that.
Ah, I couldn't remember if it was that or a book signing. I sent you a PM on Facebook. It's just so nice to see your face here even with the horrible news you had to impart. As George will confirm, I asked him to tell Jed that we miss you and would love to see you.
-
Yes DR ANN & DR JED are both much missed.
-
I hope he knew how much all of us here loved him. Simply.
I hope so.
-
I shall soon be on my way to the read thru - and be even more grateful that I am still around and doing theatre......
I am also very grateful you are still here.
-
I’m going to have to find a copy of Camelot somewhere. It was one of his favorites.
-
Thank you DR JANE.....and same to you.
-
Or anything Titanic.
-
This has been the most disturbing day. I'm trying to finish this damned number for the ballet, despite the fact that all three cats want to climb onto my worktable over and over and assist me. The afternoon was taken up with a bout of bad health, and every time I log onto HHW and read more posts about TCB I start weeping again.
-
I was just chatting with a couple of Zen’s relatives, who are going through his things. They’ve come across a lot of Hollywood memorabilia. Zen’s partner was a professional photographer, back when, as one relative put it, paparazzi was a good thing. I hadn’t realized that he covered Hollywood events. Lots of photos and at least one item of some significance. They don’t have time to find homes for this stuff, so I’ll take it and look for takers.
-
Great certificate from the LA Film Awards. I hadn’t seen that photo of Sami and Sammy. It couldn’t be any better.
-
Bruce, are the Scenies for SAMI? That was very fast.
Congrats again.
-
Disturbing day is right.
That is nice of you. Enjoy them until you find the right homes.
-
I don’t recognize many of the people, but others would.
I’d been urging Zen to go through some of his stuff, but he really needed some help with it. I almost volunteered a couple times, but I have plenty of my own stuff to go through.
-
I heard from DR TCB's best friend, Sharry. The neighbor has taken Sasha, just the cat I called Draco, known as Buddy, needs a home.
-
It was very sweet of Sharry to think of me and write. I was giving her a little bit of time before I wrote to her. As expected she and her husband were the friends DR Ann mentioned.
-
DR Ann, also give my best to DR Jed if he remembers me from back in the day too.
-
Heartbreaking news about TCB.
-
I so looked forward to reading his late night posts and seeing his smiling face…loved his sense of humor and gentle spirit.
He will be missed very much.
💔
-
This has been a very sad shock.
-
I reached Mike Barnum and told him the sad news.
-
Also told WFO when I stopped by tonight
-
This morning Keith dropped me off to get blood work then drove down the road to the gym.
I only had to wait 5 minutes before I was called in. It went quickly, then I walked to the gym to work out.
I'm glad we went earlier than usual, and had just gotten in our car when we received the news about Tom.
-
I reached Mike Barnum and told him the sad news.
Thank you.
-
Also told WFO when I stopped by tonight
I am very glad WFO is still here to receive the news.
-
I did a fasting blood test, plus had to wait until after the test to take my thyroid meds. Then I had to wait an hour before eating. Once I heard the news I was no longer hungry.
-
This afternoon I have been eating all of the comfort foods I shouldn't be eating.
-
Understandable.
-
DR vixmom, have you been able to finish all of the Sami episodes with WFO?
-
A last! No.15 is finished. I am off to bed. Good night, all.
-
Good night, DR elmore3003.
-
I am sure your three sweet babies were anxious to help you finish your work.
-
Not.
-
But they mean well.
-
This afternoon I emailed former Drs Ben and MBarnum about TCB. Ron Pulliam saw my Facebook post.
-
There is a channel on the Sling platform that broadcasts nothing but wall-to-wall episodes of America's Test Kitchen.
-
It is hard not to get sucked in.
-
In my dream house, the kitchen and the library would vie for biggest room honors.
-
Went out for a salad and a little shopping at the beginning of the Tuesday Morning liquidation sale. It didn’t make me feel any better.
-
Tuesday Morning is closing? :(
-
Tuesday Morning on a Wednesday morning? I'm easily confused as it is.
-
That would push me over the cliff.
-
Seven.
-
Also told WFO when I stopped by tonight
I am very glad WFO is still here to receive the news.
So am I . It brought back to me how close I was to losing Bill.
-
DR vixmom, have you been able to finish all of the Sami episodes with WFO?
No not yet, we get busy gossiping and suddenly it’s time for me to go home to Vixdad, perhaps this weekend
-
I got sidetracked on Facebook.
It was a scary time. I hope he continues to get stronger every day.
White flowers are a symbol of death and ghosts in Asian culture. Do I potted my white hydrangea in memory of Tom.
In a new pot.
I don't have Sling, but I watch episodes on YouTube. I really like that show. :)
-
Sad. I used to shop there a lot when we lived in Michigan. I was very excited when they opened a store near Ashland, however, it was very small and disappointing. There had been a very large one in Portland I went to before we moved up here but it was too far away for a hit and miss store.
-
In a new pot.
Very pretty, and I like that you will now think of Tom when you look at them.
-
'night
-
I love this cat!
-
The fireflies were sparkling up the backyard. The jasmine filled the air.
;)
-
Lovely plants, DR John G.
-
DR elmore3003, your funny reminds me of this one:
-
I'm planning a trip next year.
-
Post #200.
-
Still on the dreaded page seven.
-
Which is not to BK's liking.
-
But you can't have a page eight without a page seven.
-
Lovely plants DR JOHN G.
-
Read thru was fun tonight.....but it is a difficult play to do technically....but the director seems to have a plan....he says.
-
Still thinking about TCB.
I emailed MBARNUM as well so between the three of us, he has the news.
-
I guess I shall go to bed.
-
I hopefully awake tomorrow morning.
AMAZON has not put the edits into my SAMI review yet.....we shall see what happens.
-
....but it is a difficult play to do technically....
I certainly believe that!
-
EIGHT.
-
We've got lots of theater going on.
-
DR TCB would love that.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Good night, Singdaw.
-
Finishing up the Samurai Trilogy. Part 3 is the least engaging of the three, even if it finishes the tale.
-
Yannick Nezet-Seguin has a new recording of the Sibelius 3 and 4, which came in to the library today. I’ll give it a listen after the movie.
-
The Tyrone Power Razor’s Edge also came in. Maybe this weekend.
-
Let us know how the Sibelius is.
Finished with my viewing.
-
Having popcorn now. Had the Pad Thai thing but the chicken in it was kind of gross so I avoided it and just at the other stuff.
-
Edits to Amazon reviews used to be instantaneous.
-
Good night, all.
-
There is a channel on the Sling platform that broadcasts nothing but wall-to-wall episodes of America's Test Kitchen.
I don't have Sling, but I watch episodes on YouTube. I really like that show. :)
ATK has a cookbook with every recipe the show has done since its inception through 2022.
I saw Larry's FB post about Tom this afternoon.
I am distressed.
I hope everyone who is on FB reads Tom Guest's (Tom of Oz) tribute to TCB. It's a beautiful thng.
-
I cried while reading it.
-
Sharry mentioned on TCB's Facebook page that she will be putting up a tribute to him soon. I hope there will be a way to share it here.
-
It is lonely and sad here tonight.
-
I am going to try and sleep now.
-
Time to write some notes and hopefully George will come out of the rabbit hole soon.
-
I love this cat!
An oldie but a goodie!
I'm planning a trip next year.
;D
We've got lots of theater going on.
DR TCB would love that.
Definitely!
Time to write some notes and hopefully George will come out of the rabbit hole soon.
I have.
-
Well, crap.
-
I usually just set my desktop computer to go to sleep instead of totally shutting it down, and when I went to start it up just now, I got to my desktop, but it's all frozen!
-
I can move the mouse, but nothing else is moving or working.
-
I think I may need to force a reset.
-
I hate it when I have to do that. :P
-
Oh, look! It's Page Nine!
-
Oh...the keyboard still works.
-
I was able to do ctrl+alt+delete and sign out, and then sign back in again.
-
Whew!
-
I didn't actually have to restart the computer.
-
It did close all the applications that I had up and running, but it's no problem to open them again. :)
-
And on a happier note (G-natural), I received a wonderful package of MANY keychains and a lovely card from DR Vixmom! ;D
-
:-* :-* :-*
-
Here's a picture of half of them:
-
And here are the rest!
-
And before you think that I accidentally put the Battlestar Galactica keychain on twice, there were two in the package! :D
-
I don't mind duplicates, so thanks for them all, Vixmom!!
-
Page nine isn't so bad.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
You can therefore read them.
-
I'm still kind of hungry but I only really have pasta here.
-
I don't need any more popcorn, thank you very much.
-
I just don't.
-
Don't force me.
-
I will NOT be forced.
-
If I had some sandwich stuff, I'd do that.
-
If I had a can of beans I'd do that and then everyone could say I'm full of beans.
-
I could get a Subway sandwich delivered, but...
-
Will I?
-
I'll see what's open.
-
The best thing about DoorDash is that you can get late-night things.
-
There, page 10.
