Well, you've read the notes, you know about the bad food day, and now it is time for you to post until the foodie cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FULCRUM!
-
Today is the birthday of former DR Danise. :(
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I was not overly impressed with Andrew Lloyd Webber's new ditty at the Coronation yesterday.
-
Just thought I'd get that out there.
-
I am enjoying BK's new book very much, but I am finding a need to take it slowly.
-
Breaks between chapters.
-
And I'm going to end up with a lengthy "to view" list.
-
~~~LITTLE MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for the likes of BK!!!!!!
-
I wonder what the homeowner's association fees run per month?
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept quite poorly last night. My leg were killing me, and between the sharp stabs in my left heel and the throbs between my right knee and ankle I was awake for hours, trying to get comfortable and wishing I had a medication to knock me out.
-
DR Ginny, are your friends who co-own the winning horse from Middletown? Also, are you planning to see Middletown Lyric Theatre's production of Sunday in the Park with George? I'm curious to know if they will have a band at all.
-
BK, last night Richard Dreyfus was on Margaret Hoover's Firing Line, talking about the decline intelligent, good movies, current casting and staffing demands, etc. I would have sworn I was reading one of your rants. I think he, you, and I should do a podcast or orogram and call it Two and a half Jews in a Room Talking.
-
PIZZA FOR ALL!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Wordle and Phoodle, 3.
-
Slept well. Felt good. But I still feel tired.
-
Sunday morning greetings! Thunder, lightning, and hail woke me up at 6:30. I was not amused.
-
DR Ginny, are your friends who co-own the winning horse from Middletown?
Helen Stevens-Gleason and her husband Rick.
Also, are you planning to see Middletown Lyric Theatre's production of Sunday in the Park with George? I'm curious to know if they will have a band at all.
Hadn’t really paid much attention, but I just looked into it. We’re going to be away both weekends.
-
I would not be either.
-
Happy Sunday to one and all! There's a new Broadway Radio Show up on the site. This week it's CHITA in Her Own Words as we hear excerpts from Chita Rivera's new memoir along with some of the great show tunes she sang on Broadway. ENJOY!!!
DR John G, you’ll be interested to know that, as of yesterday, the Journal-News (fka Middletown Journal) no longer issues a Saturday print edition.
-
Good morning!
DR John G, you’ll be interested to know that, as of yesterday, the Journal-News (fka Middletown Journal) no longer issues a Saturday print edition.
Sad.
-
Rainy Sunday.
-
I have to write my report for the Meeting of the Bored.
I guess the Program Committee is meeting one hour prior to the regular meeting to discuss the 2024 season.
-
I shall be around now and then today....
-
Page Two.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Survived yesterday's double header, and sure could use a day off.
So just for comic relief, I shall soon be on my way to playing for auditions.
-
Good morning ChasSmith (and all).
-
Robin De Jesus was in attendance at last night's closing performance, which is always great fun.
-
A celebrity in your midst!
-
This day is flying by like a gazelle humming the overture to Whoop-Up.
-
This morning I am thinking of DR Danise. I always remember her birthday as it falls on the same day as two special people from my childhood.
-
Wow, not a single post since my last one.
-
I am not caught with the posts from last night and this morning.
-
Good afternoon
-
Church was very nice today
-
And the day is very nice
-
I must go to attend to chores shortly
-
But first to Wordle as I have not yet done so
I have been making plans to see DR Jose this week :)
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe three hours of sleep - horrible night of sleep attempts.
-
Page two?
-
I have been making plans to see DR Jose this week :)
Nice!
-
Jane, yes, I've had both the Caesar and the Eyetalian chopped there and I should have had that last night.
-
I am enjoying BK's new book very much, but I am finding a need to take it slowly.
I know what you mean and, of course, I was hinting at the reasons for it all during the writing process - that everyone would understand why this was a weird one to write once they read it. And especially to proof.
-
I do not understand page two.
-
Is it Good Sunday?
-
Easter?
-
Wester?
-
I do not understand page three.
-
When are soft-cover editions of the new book for sale?
-
I won't have any, but they're already available on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Preview-Harvey-Bruce-Kimmel/dp/B0C3V7B8RX/ref=sr_1_1?crid=CE4UDC2UYCVT&keywords=preview+harvey&qid=1683485935&s=books&sprefix=preview+harvey%2Cstripbooks%2C135&sr=1-1
Jane, yes, I've had both the Caesar and the Eyetalian chopped there and I should have had that last night.
My brother likes one of their salads. I don't remember which one he usually gets.
-
Well, I must be off.
-
My friend Shelly and I are going to see the final performance of Olympia Little Theatre's production of Into the Breeches (https://olympialittletheater.org/shows/theoriginals/).
-
I know several cast members, and I've heard that it's a fun show, so I'm looking forward to it.
Be back later!
-
Enjoy the show, DR George.
-
Trying to think of something to say.
-
So far, not succeeding.
-
I sense a grocery run coming on.
-
So MR BK & DR GEORGE are both going to the theeder this afternoon.
DR CHAS SMITH for which show are you playing auditions for?
-
The meeting went okay.....and I shall now do some work on my lines for tomorrow evening's rehearsal.
Good :)
-
Up from a nap.
-
Feel exhausted after today’s lessons.
-
Too much to do.
-
Nap?
-
Check.
Groceries?
Check.
-
So inactive that one has to lie down.
Here's the Lloyd-Webber anthem from yesterday, for those who are curious.
I just got an email that if I just purchase this product, it will turn my man boobs into rock-hard pecs.
-
It must be legitimate.
-
Martha Stewart is also telling me that the color of my kitchen is now passé.
-
So I guess I'll just need to plop my man boobs down in my passé kitchen and sulk.
-
One more.
-
FOUR.
-
At long last.
-
-
I have completed my afternoon walk of our upstairs dog.
-
He doesn't go far anymore which means I spend most of the time trying to get him to move around on the lawn until he poops ;D
-
So MR BK & DR GEORGE are both going to the theeder this afternoon.
DR CHAS SMITH for which show are you playing auditions for?
Pippin - at one of our ca-99 seat community theeders. I'm not involved in it beyond this, but it's interesting to meet west coast (I believe?) director David Galligan who apparently is based around here now.
-
Oh, my.
-
David Galligan.....I loved Tina Louise in his show.
-
I’m sorry your man boobs are sulking, Singdaw.
-
Gratuitous post 100!
-
Anybody got a spare 100 posts?
-
Asking for a friend.
-
June Havoc just sang a torch song. She didn’t smile. But she did sing out.
-
June is now singing a duet with herself. The song is The Man with the Big Sombrero.
Sounds like an audition for Mexican Hayride.
-
The Man with the Big Sombrero.
And that ain't a euphemism.
-
I have done very little this weekend.
-
Still, I am not nearly ready for it to be over.
-
I am, however, ready for page four to be over.
-
I'm over it, as it were.
-
As opposed to eggs.
-
Which are over easy.
-
Unless BK orders them out.
-
In which case, they are overdone.
-
Sadly.
-
I hope that my nap earlier won't mean that I have trouble falling asleep tonight.
-
But usually, it's not a problem.
-
One more.
-
FIVE.
-
Sakes alive.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
The AANR is, apparently, the American Association of Nude Recreation. They are interested in starting a handbell choir.
Maybe my man boobs will have some usefulness, after all. For dampening, don't you know.
-
Although I feel about the monarchy much like the majority of youthful Brits, ie, that their wealth should be better distributed, I saw a new side to the coronation today: a chance to party, to celebrate their country, and take a break from the mundane work world. I was pleased to see lots of street parties and celebrations. The last several years have not been easy for them.
As pleased as I am to know about this organization— how could I have missed it? — I have to wonder if our dear Singdaw has too much time on his hands. Then again, we all relax in different ways and who am I to discourage this pursuit?
I have to wear gloves when I play. I hope those are acceptable.
-
Starting High, Wide and Handsome. Have never seen it. Irene Dunne and Jerome Kern are a good pair.
-
I wonder if there was ever a high, wide, and handsome Mexican hayride?
-
The best attributes of both?
-
Ah, youth.
-
The plot of High, Wide and Handsome is not PC. Oil pipelines do not an environmentally conscious story make.
-
Do they sing, at least?
-
Bach, cubed.
-
Singing can paper over a multitude of shortcomings.
-
I have done very little this weekend.
I have done too little, making me a bit stressed as I have lots to do before flying to Milwaukee.
Tonight we are watching the last episode of the Battleship Galactica reboot.
-
I will be pleased to be done with this show.
-
Keith likes it.
-
'night
-
Galligan and I go way back to the 1970s and of course I recored a few of his APLA benefits.
-
Back from a LOOOOOONG play - The Laramie Project. The director decided to take its three acts and make them two - never a good idea - so, act one is an hour and act two is over ninety minutes. I didn't love the play itself - it's a little too, I don't know, uninvolving due to the way it's structured and, at times, coyly written.
-
Then a good meal at Coral Cafe - patty melt and a little salad.
-
I have to film a little thing to send to some David Cassidy event tomorrow.
-
Meanwhile, get me off this damn page.
-
Before I go one a - ram page.
-
Enjoy the show, DR George.
Thanks, Singdaw! I did!
-
It was a great show!
-
Oh, look! It's Page Six!! :D
-
I REALLY enjoyed this play!
-
It's a very simple premise, but it was very funny and touching, and everyone in the show was really good!
-
DR Jane, I know you've signed off for the night, but when is your travel day?
-
My friend Kim told me after that it's a fairly new play.
-
I went to the Amazon.com listing (https://www.amazon.com/Into-Breeches-George-Brant/dp/0573708274/) and it shows a 2020 publication date.
-
Highly recommended by the likes of me!
-
Jrand, I think you need to look into this one. :)
-
There's a role that might be perfect for you. ;D
-
Page six! One before page seven!
-
Turn Every Page is a documentary about the working relationship between writer Robert Caro and editor Bob Gottlieb.
-
Speaking of rolls... 8)
Kir Royale sweet rolls.
-
Just don't make them in this pan:
-
In the first few minutes, one of the talking heads is Bill Clinton, one of the writers Gottlieb has edited. Nora Efron and Toni Morrison were among the 600 others.
-
Speaking of rolls... 8)
Kir Royale sweet rolls.
Me want.
-
Me want.
Me, too.
-
Alas, I don't think I'm going to make it to seven.
-
I'm tired, even with the nap.
-
How do we get through weekday workdays without a nap?
-
I ask you.
-
How do we get through weekday workdays without a nap?
Grrr. The lack of those is the bane of my existence.
-
Caro is working on volume five of his massive Lyndon Johnson bio. Gottlieb has been his editor since they worked together on The Power Broker, Caro’s bio of Robert Moses.
-
Caro is 86, Gottlieb is 91. Will they live to see volume give finished? It’s the question of the movie.
-
He also makes a great syrup.
-
Oh, never mind. That's Karo.
-
Stick around for the jokes.
-
Problem is, while they respect each other, they don’t like each other very much.
-
Grasping at straws.
-
One more.
-
Stick around for the jokes.
Groaning at HHW
-
SEVEN .
-
Seven!
-
Now get me off this page.
-
Indeed.
Singdaw, I am still laughing at the idea of nude handbells
I'm almost getting a second wind.
Almost.
I just had to write a recipe for rouladen. I’ve made it once.
Hawaii for two weeks in June.
Turner Classics is showing The Blue Gardenia.
Oh my gosh - that is going to be amazing.
-
I've never been, but I sure want to.
-
I vant to be alone.
Excepting HHW folks. They're pretty OK.
We have passed 200.
Enjoy
Thanks, Jane! We did!
-
BK does not care for page seven.
-
Or so I've been told.
-
Nat King Cole is singing.
-
We were all young when we were young.
Great quote from Bob Gottlieb
-
We all do better when we all do better.
-
Bitter butter makes better batter.
-
I've never found that to be the case, myself.
-
But what do I know?
-
Good night, evening stalwarts!
-
Catch-22, Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Chosen, Beloved, Midnight Cowboy are a few of Gottlieb’s books.
-
He also was the programmer for the New York City Ballet under Balanchine.
-
Gratuitous post 225!
-
A semi-colon is worth fighting a civil war over.
-
Another great Gottlieb quote
-
I won’t be able to watch all of this tonight.
-
So, we got a few more nice ten-star ratings on the imdb. Then someone, as soon as they saw that, went in and left another one-star review to knock us back down. Hmmmm. Let's put on our thinking caps, shall we. However, doing it that way makes it easy for the imdb to see exactly what's going on and I've now written them a long missive about it, just as we've done for Amazon.
:o
-
So Singdaw, are you going to get involved??
-
We were all young when we were young.
Great quote from Bob Gottlieb
:D
-
That reminds me of this t-shirt:
-
Good night, all.
-
Here we go again, with "rabbit hole" George.
-
No posts for over two HOURS.
-
Not very sporting.
-
I suspect page nine is lurking around here somewhere.
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
See?
-
Here am I, and now all of y’all are gone.
-
Who’s gaslighting who?
-
Nude handbell might be safer than nude handball.
-
Rodzinski showed up.
-
But George? Noooooo. I'm wrapping up writing the notes and then I'll return in a blaze of glory.
-
When I think of handbells I think of white gloves which makes me think of my grandma’s funeral when I was a pallbearer, and the funeral home gave me white gloves with holes in them. I still sometimes kick myself for not demanding they give me better gloves, but I was a mere lad of 22, what did I know of confrontation?
-
Blaze it, boss!
-
Watched the latest Succession. Intense.
-
Tonight we are watching the last episode of the Battleship Galactica reboot.
Is that the version with the gal you hate who used to own my house? Or a newer reboot?
-
Can’t keep track of all the reboots.
-
My memory of Battlestar Galactica is the original series. Lotta hype and kids were quite excited. The Cylons looked cool. And Lorne Greene! But it quickly seemed boring, and it kinda disappeared, felt like a flop. I did have an iron-on T-shirt though, of the robotic dog character.
-
Things to tell the kids one day. There were these popular mall stores that were nothing but iron-ons to choose from. Pick an iron-on from the wall, pick a T-shirt, and they’d fry it right in front of you. Can still smell it.
-
I’m just out here on my own.
-
To quote the late, great Irene Cara.
-
Did they include her in the Oscar memorium montage? Surely. But then again who knows?
-
Plumber finished the last bit of work on our bathroom renovation. Tile guy has to come put a sealant on, then all we need is a glass guy to respond to our calls, and then one day we may shower in our bathroom again.
-
One star for Sami is total BS.
-
What else can I tell you?
-
John G, I tried to read the Power Broker, but I was not strong enough.
-
Literally the heaviest book I ever attempted to read.
-
One star for Sami is total BS.
How rude! >:(
-
I tend to read while lying down and my arms could not support that book. And it was tiny type! There’s more in that book about Robert Moses than all books about biblical Moses combined.
-
Good evening, Rodzinski.
-
George!!
-
Oh, George decided to show up.
-
Just looked it up. 1,336 pages.
-
We have five minutes.
-
That is what we have.
-
Five minutes.
-
Page ten has arrived.
-
That we know for certain.
-
It certainly is page ten.
-
I did my best to hold down the fort here while you composed notes and George did what Georges do.
-
And?
-
You did a fine job.
-
George, on the other hand, is sitting there like so much plastered fish.
-
He could be helping us.
-
But he is instead thinking of his seventeen lines.
-
One star review for Sami is basically saying, “I hate laughter and joy and good things.”
-
Or he's remembering The Brain.
-
Sadly it's saying "I'm a mean, vindictive person who cannot stop and should probably seek therapy to find out why I can't just move on and not waste my time doing petty things every day."
-
“I hate youth and music and talent.” One star!
-
George!
-
Make a post for heaven's sake.
-
I don't get it.
-
All it takes is words.
-
But no words are forthcoming.
-
Yes, a petty vendetta waged in the most inconsequential of ways.
-
He isn't even reading Preview Harvey.
-
Okay, this time, I had to go "down the hall," as my sister says...meaning a potty stop. ::)
-
We could get this to 11 if George could return
-
He isn't even reading Preview Harvey.
I HAVE started reading it, but I'm also finishing "The Ink Black Heart."
-
New notes are up.
-
We could get this to 11 if George could return
I have!
-
From down the hall, he returned!
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
So close
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
After the play this afternoon, my friend Shelly and I went to McMenamin's The Spar.
-
We both had burgers and they were quite delish. :)
-
He isn't even reading Preview Harvey.
I HAVE started reading it, but I'm also finishing "The Ink Black Heart."
Don't get them mixed up. Preview Harvey contains no ink black hearts, but it does have HEART.
-
The Elevenication!
-
I actually had their three mini burger sliders...highly recommended.
-
I had a deliciously delicious patty melt.
-
He isn't even reading Preview Harvey.
I do not doubt that!
I don't like grilled onions, so I had them lightly sauté some chopped onions - excellent.
-
I’m diggin’ into the notes…
-
Gratuitous Post #311!! ;)
-
There was a McMenamin’s at the bottom of The NY Times building. Good chicken burger. But expensive!
-
There was a McMenamin’s at the bottom of The NY Times building. Good chicken burger. But expensive!
Fortunately, we went during their afternoon 3-hour happy-hour, so it wasn't as pricey as it would've otherwise been.
-
Actually no idea if the McMenamin’s is any relation, except it’s sort of an unusual name.
-
Canada differences:
They call a garbage disposal in your sink a “garbuerator.”
-
They call a parking garage a “parkade.”
-
Actually no idea if the McMenamin’s is any relation, except it’s sort of an unusual name.
McMenamin's is a company (I don't know exactly what kind) who buy old restaurants and hotels and places like that, and renovate them and, from what I understand, keep the original styles of the establishments. Pretty cool idea, if you ask me.
-
Canada differences:
They call a garbage disposal in your sink a “garbuerator.”
I did know that. A college friend from Canada who was going to Western told me that.
-
Now I'll change the topic.
-
She also told me that a napkin (like when you're dining) was called a "serviette" (not sure of the spelling, though).
-
I caught George disease and got sidetracked for a minute.
-
They call a parking garage a “parkade.”
I didn't know that.
-
It happens.
I caught George disease and got sidetracked for a minute.
HA! ;D
