Well, you've read the notes, the notes were foreign, and now it is time for you to post until the foreign cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SUREFOOTED!
-
I also love foreign language cast recordings, and I'm pretty sure that I have that Mexican My Fair Lady.. If I'm not mistaken, that also has a very young Plácido Domingo in the ensemble!
-
Notes pondered. Contextualized.
-
Among the MANY foreign language cast recordings, I have the original Barcelona cast recordings of A Little Night Music (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Musica-per-a-una-nit-destiu-2001-Original-Barcelona-Cast/1136/), Sweeney Todd (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Sweeney-Todd-El-barber-diabolic-del-carrer-Fleet-1995-Original-Barcelona-Cast/2025), AND Into the Woods (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Boscos-endins-2008-Original-Barcelona-Cast/11849)...all in Catalan! ;D
-
My guess is Hair would be in the running for most foreign language recordings. Have a vague memory of reading something like that.
-

I have the French, German (with Donna Summer!) and the Japanese cast recordings of Hair!
-
I don’t know if I could watch Adrienne. I was very much into the early films of Hal Hartley, and remember too well what was such a senseless tragedy.
-
Well, good night, Rodzinski. I must be off.
Have a good day, all!
-
Yes, Placido Domingo is in the chorus.
-
I have to look up the others I have - I do know I have an Israeli and German Hello, Dolly, a German Stop the World - I Want to Get Off, an Australian Pippin, and Eyetalian Promises, Promises, and several Fiddler recordings.
-
I'm listening to a homegrown version of Pepe that someone grabbed in stereo from the TCM showing, I'm sure. But it has a lot of stuff not on the soundtrack.
-
I wish Sony would restore the original length of Pepe and release it to streaming and Blu-ray.
-
So few people have actually seen it and while the plot is stupid, there are many enjoyable things in it - where else can you see the original Riff, Michael Callan, basically doing another version of a rumble, choreographed by Eugene Loring, or hear Bobby Darin sing the song that precedes it, or hear Shirley Jones sing the title song and give a lovely performance, plus all those guest stars.
-
Pepe originally ran 195 minutes in roadshow. After that engagement it was severely cut down by forty minutes. It's on that Archive site - lousy color but in stereo - my friend, now deceased had the full 195-minute version in stereo. Where that ended up, who knows? https://archive.org/details/pepe-1960/Pepe+(1960)+Part+1.avi
-
It's in two parts - you can click on part two right under the video itself.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Pepe is peppy, it seems.
-
Forgot to mention yesterday how much I enjoyed DR George's shirt photo.
-
I wonder if there was ever a Mexican cast recording of Mexican Hayride.
-
That would be something.
-
The Northern Cardinal was added to the sound mix this morning outside my window. But still not the elusive one I heard a few days ago.
-
Interesting that in the credits listing on the archive site, Michael Callan is not listed as one of the cameos in Pepe.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept in until 6:30, at which time I decided that was enough. I did sleep well, but I remember no dreams.
-
I was the DR who asked about HOLD ME, THRILL ME, KISS ME. It was such a strange comedy, but I really liked it.
-
More ballet today. First on my agenda, schedule Access-a-Ride for tomorrow. I have a date with my urologist.
-
:)
-
Good morning, all.
-
I believe I actually got the decent sleep I needed, and even the cat was agreeable to not forcing me awake early.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Two!
-
Good morning!

Wordle: 4/6
-
So last night was Cabaret, and this evening is Steel Magnolias. At least this one is reasonably close to home, AND it’s a dry sunny day. Thank you, universe, for these small favors.
-
I acquired very few foreign cast recordings, to my regret, so I shall take pleasure in hearing about the ones all’a y’all have.
-
I know what my first one was, though — the Spanish My Fair Lady that EVERYONE had. The great majority of those I do have are London casts.
-
The Northern Cardinal was added to the sound mix this morning outside my window. But still not the elusive one I heard a few days ago.
I am delighted to read this, DR singdaw. I was getting a bit concerned about having to send you a bird every day.
-
A very good Sunday morning to you all.
-
I have only a few foreign cast recordings: the Korean Evita, the Japanese Fiddler, Japanese Promises, Promises (thank you, George), a Greek musical that I can’t remember the name of, Notre-Dame de Paris. I would like more.
-
The day, thus far, is gray and rainy. Some sunshine is expected, but so are thunder showers.
I don't recall the difference between thunder, thunder storms and thunder showers.
The thunder I get...lots of booming noises that rattle my windows.
-
Wordle 3, Phoodle 6
-
I have no foreign recordings of any musicals EXCEPT the British versions of a few shows.
-
I'm not sure if I have any foreign recordings....it seems I do....
-
If you post just a regular post - there is a sheaf of papers up by the title.....but if you add a photo there is a paper clip up by the title.
-
Nice day today.
Dry driving vibes to DR CHAS SMITH.
-
Interesting notes.....
-
I wonder if the Septic Tank entertainment that DR RODZINSKI saw included a free-wheeling patio number?
-
The pain had not entirely abated. The painkillers are of little help.
-
Starting to watch a movie I somehow missed called Prime Cut. Lee Marvin, Gene Hackman and Sissy Spacek. The beginning is rather unsavory.
-
The whole picture is unsavory. Taut direction from Michael Ritchie. But ugly.
-
Pain be gone vibes for DR JOHN G.
-
I remember Prime Cut playing in theaters, but it held no attraction for me then. Several years ago I bought a Blu-ray, thinking it would surely be of interest, but I do believe I still haven't watched it.
-
Speaking of the Connie Sellica connection - I had forgotten that one of Elvis' last girlfriends Linda Thompson was later married to Bruce Jenner and she is the mother of two of his children....the non-Kardashian connected ones.
-
Pain be gone vibes for DR JOHN G.
DITTO. It's past time. Get outta here with that pain.
-
I think I saw a bit of Prime Cut on the teevee.
-
Lots of lawn mowing and weed eating going on in my neighborhood today.
-
Now starting Moving On, the second Jane Fonda movie of the year after 80 for Brady. At 85, she has three movies out this year. That’s wonderful, even if the movies haven’t been great.
-
From DR Singdaw:
I take it you've seen the first Avatar movie, then, DR Jane?
Yes, when it first came out. I kind of miss the big screen for this one.
-
DR Ron, we won't actually be having a staycation. Maybe we will go out to dinner to celebrate.
-
And the first two also had fun work from Lily Tomlin.
-
Three!
-
The pain had not entirely abated. The painkillers are of little help.
Sorry. Vibes tomorrow is the day it is gone.
-
I've been coughing so much all my neck and throat muscles are sore.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! We’ve been kind of busy the past several days with things much more pleasant than medical tests and doctor visits.
-
On Thursday we had a very serious look at a house at Mount Pleasant. Met with Ashley to go over our list of desired modifications and should know by the end of the month if we’re in agreement.
-
On Friday I did errands and had lunch with a sister-in-law I hadn’t seen in over a year.
-
Yesterday we ventured north of Dayton to attend an 80th birthday celebration for my cousin’s mother-in-law. My cousin and his wife and daughter live in Georgia and we hadn’t seen them since 2019.
-

Nice.
-
On Thursday we had a very serious look at a house at Mount Pleasant. Met with Ashley to go over our list of desired modifications and should know by the end of the month if we’re in agreement.
Good luck. Are there standard modifications they do for all new occupents?
-
On Friday I did errands and had lunch with a sister-in-law I hadn’t seen in over a year.
I expect you had a nice time.
-
George, you asked about Yeston’s Tom Sawyer ballet. I like it. Very melodic

Good luck. Are there standard modifications they do for all new occupents?
Yes, and some of the structural changes were already on THEIR list. We really only made one major request and a couple of smaller ones.
-
Forgot to mention yesterday how much I enjoyed DR George's shirt photo.
Thanks, Singdaw!
-
Sadly, we didn't get a picture of us with the Celestes and their Thing 1 and Thing 2 t-shirts.
-

Good. If they hadn't already had some of those on the list I would have been concerned.
-
DR Ginny, if you do take this place they do all the work before you move in, correct?
-
I wonder if there was ever a Mexican cast recording of Mexican Hayride.
I love it when that happens!
-
Sadly, we didn't get a picture of us with the Celestes and their Thing 1 and Thing 2 t-shirts.
Darn.
-
DR Ginny, if you do take this place they do all the work before you move in, correct?
Yes, DR Jane. They do all the heavy lifting and we get to do the fun stuff like select colors and finishes.
-
I took Prime Cut off the shelf and added it to the watch (or try to watch) stack.
Looking forward to working that down this week.
Also added Cradle Will Rock (no "the" on that title, I believe). I know they play with the history and the facts some, but I love that kind of early-mid-20th century period movie.
-
I'd love an officially released Japanese cast recording of Pacific Overtures, or an Italian Passion. I'm pretty sure I have a radio broadcast of a Swedish production of A Little Night Music!
-
What I find interesting, is that for as many productions of The Phantom of the Opera that there have been, there is NOT one French cast recording! It's set at the Paris Opera House, but no actual French production??
-
There is a French Region 2 release of the movie that has a French language soundtrack, but it's not a stage production cast album.
-

I do have a couple of different French cast recordings of Les Misérables.
-
The pain had not entirely abated. The painkillers are of little help.

The way it should be.

On Thursday we had a very serious look at a house at Mount Pleasant. Met with Ashley to go over our list of desired modifications and should know by the end of the month if we’re in agreement.
That's great, Ginny! Good luck!!

4our!!!!
-
I had a friend who moved into a nice community like what you are looking at. It was standard procedure to replace everything before new people moved in. I was shocked, but their place was beautiful.
-

Thanks, John!

That’s our goal!
-
Sounds like a good one.
-
I'm up, I'm up - a bit more than seven hours of sleep - kind of a rough night - slept well but something wasn't sitting right in the tummy, so I was up once for an hour.
-
When that happens, I just do a Pepcid and suck on a Ricola, with a sip of Ginger Ale and things usually calm down pretty quickly.
-

I do too. Plus you get some of that great music. Tim Robbins was in the cast of Cradle tHat starred Patti LuPone.
-
Up from a nap.
-
Gratuitous post 100!
-
All cast for June 10.
-
Whew!
-
So, have you selected your Sherman Brothers songs yet, BK?
-
In the midst of doing so. About six or seven songs left.
-
Back to Moving On. It’s surprisingly effective. It’s more dramatic than I expected. But the comedy in it works. Richard Roundtree is such a welcome presence.
-
Time to get some food.
-
Greetings from the Mark Twain Library.
-
Claude Lelouch is directing a new movie, Finalement.
-
weed eating
The gummy kind?

All cast for June 10.
Huzzah!
-
Sorry about the pain, DR John G. Hope it abates soon.
-
A bike with triangular wheels. WHY??
-
Talk about triangle of sadness!!
-
Started season 1, episode 1 of Foyle's War. Seeing it for the first time.
-
The first episode featured a very young Julian Ovenden.
-
No coughing vibes for DR JANE.
-
MR BK don't spend your whole twenty cents in one place.
-
Very exciting news from DR GINNY!
-
I was thinking of going to my next function in this sedate outfit.
-
FIVE!
-
Too much?
-
No coughing vibes for DR JANE.
Thank you.
-
The daylight is fading, and the skies have been gray all day. There have been no thunder showers or thunder storms, however. Perhaps later tonight.
-
Had my Sunday Zoom chat with some friends. Bowed out about 3 p.m. Our talks were all over the place today.
-
How odd to be here with no one else, including no guests.
-
Too much?
C’est vous.
-
Watched a lazy Guy Ritchie movie, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.
-
I really like the Dr Pepper Float ice cream.
-
OK. Now I can't think about anything else.
-
How odd to be here with no one else, including no guests.
It feels lonely when that happens.
-
Darn it all to heck.
-
I really like the Dr Pepper Float ice cream.
If I liked Dr Pepper floats that would sound good to me.
-
Do they do a root beer or root beer float ice cream? It seems like a natural.
-
I was in an A&W several months ago and we ordered a good old-fashioned root beer float.
-
And about 10 minutes later, the waitress came around to top off the root beer. I thought that was a nice touch.
-
Not my job.

It's like a dream

Imagine all the lonely years we've wasted
-
You with the neighbors

I at stilly labors

I somewhere in China.

Happiest of men

Page Seven.
-
Shall we do another one?
-
Is that cheating?

https://hypebeast.com/2023/5/cellato-guiness-world-record-most-expensive-ice-cream-info
I like ice cream a lot, but not enough to pay $6,000 for a single serving.
-
Starting my fourth movie of the day. It’s called Juniper and stars Charlotte Rampling.
-
Reading has been uncomfortable.
-
I need to think of a snack for dinner.
-
Hello, 2 guests!
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
For the record.
-
I had spicy cashew chicken from the Cheesecake Factory. I had a coupon, thankfully. This dish has ALWAYS been 17.98. It is now 24.98, which is outrageous. All their prices for all the food have gone up in the past eight months by seven bucks. How does anyone afford to eat there?
-
Finished a good documentary, good in the sense that the interviews were good and there were a lot of clips.
-
I do not care for page seven.
You could have fooled me.
-
It’s not polite to bogart a joint.
Charlotte Rampling in Juniper
-
A Lot of Clips would be a great name for a hair salon.
-
I’m not hungry but I need something to eat with the muscle relaxer.

He's a cutie! ;)

A Lot of Clips would be a great name for a hair salon.

True.

What’s the use of wondering?
-
All the rest is talk.
-
Moving right along.
-
I finally got a copy of The Letters of Oscar Hammerstein II. I think it’s longer thsn War and Peace.
-
In the point in the Verdi book where they are discussing the pros and cons of the various recordings of all the operas.
-
EIGHT!

I find it fascinating.

Back -- from what turned out to be a truly gripping reading of the play. The six women, two of which I already knew, were wonderful actors. And the real treat was meeting their director Diana Canova who shaped that performance, and who is absolutely CHARMING. What a wonderful lady. Of course I told her we have a mutual friend in BK and she was surprised and delighted to hear that. I know she's done a lot with kids here over the years, but I really hope she will continue now working with adults. This was exceptional.
-
I find it fascinating.
In the words of Carolyn Leigh, you fascinate me so.
-
I found the Hammerstein book hard to read in the e-format, so I got the hardback.

Nice story.
-
Glad you had a great theatrical afternoon, DR ChasSmith.
-
I don't have much a a memory of the movie version, except that Sally Field was fierce.
-
In the strong, stoic manner.
-
Not in the way the word is used colloquially today.
-
Although perhaps that, too.
-
And thus the weekend comes to a close.
-
And a new work week awaits.
-
And the holiday weekend approacheth.
-
Good night, friends.

Reading about your day gave me a big smile.

I am going to take a Mucinex and see if it will loosen this tight cough.
-
'night
-
Juniper is an old-fashioned tearjerker. I mean that as a compliment. And Rampling is perfect as always.
-
To end the day, I am watching Sherlock Jr., a Buster Keaton film I’ve read about but never seen.
-
Playing on TCM right now is the film of "A Chorus Line".
I thought perhaps my reaction to it might be different after all these years, but....alas...alack...ack-ack!
I did see the revival pre-Broadway and it was dazzling. Nothing in the movie comes remotely close to a well-staged version.
-
Good night from Johnston, South Carolina!!
-
Good night, Ron.
-
Sherlock Jr. was perfect. I will start The Navigator on the same disc.
-
Onward.
-
Nine!

-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
I tried watching a movie on HBO but was surprised by how bad it looked, so I got the Blu-ray out and that was MUCH better.
-
And George is where exactly?
-
Down a rabbit hole?
-
Fell asleep.
-
Twiddling his thumbs?
-
Writing a review?
-
We're a long way from ten even though it's ten-thirty.

ChasSmith meeting Diana Canova today. Color me jealous!
-
A song I’ve never forgotten is the theme to her TV show, “I’m A Big Girl Now.”
-
I spent most of today working on the yard. The body is tired.
-
“I’m A Big Girl Now” theme. Lyrics by Leslie Bricusse. Music by George Tipton.
-
I probably watched every episode of the show and had no memory of Martin Short being in it.
-
Me and zero guests. That’s like the world telling me to go to sleep.
-
And George is where exactly?
Went down the rabbit hole! ;)
-
Down a rabbit hole?
Yup.
-
Love Diana and she loves working with young people as much as I do. I remind, she did the audio book of GEE, one of only two audio books I've done for my books. There was actually a third but the guy I hired to do it was not a tech person so when he made mistakes he'd click a clicker and say it again - well, when I heard it I wasn't about to give that to an engineer to edit - there were hundreds upon hundreds of these clicks. The sad part is that two other actors played the female roles in that book - Thrill Ride - and the old lady was played by - Cindy Williams - and she was wonderful. But the audio files sit like so much fish and that's that.
-
Well, you need to STOP going down the damn rabbit holes until AFTER midnight. Do you see what page we are on? It's not page ten.
-
I has spoken.
-
I rarely listen to albums of mine, but one just started playing in Music - Prime Time Musicals, and I must say it's one of my favorites and holds up beautifully - I love the orchestrations and performances and the mix is great.
-
Right now, Guy Haines is singing It Doesn't Matter Anymore.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
I guess George came by just to tell us he was down a rabbit hole and immediately went right back down. George and the Rabbits - that's the title of my next novel.
-
And of course, there's The Randy Vicar and the Rabbit Hole.
-
That's a good one.
-
Page ten. and I'm the ONLY one here?
-
Really?
-
George logged OUT?
-
Oh well, maybe he's writing an Amazon review.
-
I used a few singers on this album that were one-offs and they're really good.
-
And the songs are amazing.
-
Almost midnight.
-
So sayeth the clock.
-
Still just li'l ol' me.
-
All by my lonesome.
-
Midnight at the Oasis.
-
I don't know.
-

Nope. There's a Canadian recording, but it's in English:
https://castalbums.org/recordings/The-Phantom-Of-The-Opera-1990-Canadian-Cast/2071/
What's interesting about this recording is that it's the only subsequent version [that I know of] where there's a different cadenza in "Think of Me."
-
The original movie soundtrack with Emmy Rossum has a variation on the original cadenza, but the cadenza sung by Rebecca Caine on that Canadian cast recording was completely different. I always thought that (like in real operas) each Christine should develop her own cadenza.
-

I will try. ::)

I love that recording, too!
-
Just as I went to post the notes, the Internet went down, but thankfully it lasted less than two minutes.
-
I guess George came by just to tell us he was down a rabbit hole and immediately went right back down. George and the Rabbits - that's the title of my next novel.
I was looking up some information for my post about the Canadian PotO recording.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.

Cool! My name'll be the title of a book! ;D
-
They have some sad news.
-
Jason Graae is singing One Day at a Time - one of his best vocals.
-
George logged OUT?
I did NOT log out!
-
It just looks that way when you go to another tab, even in the same browser...sounds like a design flaw. ::)
-
Brad Ellis did most of the orchestrations, with Lanny Meyers doing a couple. I don't think there was anyone else on this one. And Guy Haines is whistling for Mr. Graae.
-
Guy also whistled for Donna Murphy on the cast recording of The King and I revival.
-
Page eleven.
-
At least we had a little rally.
-
They have some sad news.
Oh, no. :-\
-
Well, Tuck Everlasting that I saw this afternoon was pretty fun!
-
It was fun to see friends that I'd been in shows with down there, and a few said that they're coming to see Sunday here in Olympia. :)
-
I really enjoyed the score, and the show was quite enjoyable.
-
After the show, my friend Shelly and I went to the Country Cousin, which is a local family-style restaurant.
-
I had the chicken fried steak and eggs breakfast, and Shelly had the pot roast.
-
We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
-
Shelly didn't, but I did eat the entire meal in one sitting...which really was TOO much food.
