Well, you've read the notes, the notes came to save the day, and now it is time for you to post until the saving the day cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SAPIENT!
-
We'll know about pho shortly and I shall report.
-
And say yay or no.
-
Pho was interesting - not bad, but something a little wonky in the spices - but I enjoyed it and having nice warm soup was nice and relaxing.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The past hour has been hell: health, Annabelle didn't eat, and a wonky computer that took up most of the 60 minutes. I'm also waiting for an Amazon Fresh delivery, so that just adds to the tension.
-
Add to that I slept tres lousé, a Gentlemen Prefer Blondes reference.
-
Amazon Fresh arrived and was unpacked. The young man who delivered the order was very helpful getting the bags into the apartment.
-
I have more score paper, so after kitty cleanup, I will continue with my ballet work.
-
Good morning
-
I was introduced to pho a couple of years ago
-
I quite enjoyed it
-
He added a lot of hot sauce and hot peppers to his pho but I can’t tolerate spicy stuff
-
I am now comfortably settled in the recliner with my coffee
-
But must shortly leave for the place of work

The man with the banjo.

-
Good morning, all.
-
I know it will make me sad for what we've lost, but the talk show documentary sounds good.
-
Johnny Carson was a late night staple for me in the 1970s. He certainly wasn't new to us, but my roommate and I had become big fans of Don Rickles in the year or so before moving from Cleveland to L.A., and I think it was shortly after we arrived there in June 1972 that Rickles was the guest host for a week. We watched that religiously, then our appreciation for Carson carried on for a long time. I never actually got tired of him or anything, but there were periods later when I simply changed my late night viewing habits, so it was off and on with the late night shows, and I eventually brought Letterman into my fold little by little. ALWAYS returned to Carson, though, right up to the end.
-
The memory just became very specific: It was indeed just after we got to L.A., because we didn't have a TV yet and we made the deliberate effort to go out and rent one and have it in the apartment just in time for the Rickles week. We kept that one for a while, then finally bought one. But it was there, at that time, for Rickles and Carson.
-
After Carson, I outright rejected watching Leno, I stayed with Letterman off and on, and in the later years I outright rejected Conan and the others. I finally gave up on the late night shows.
-
DR George's opening night is ... NOW?
I swear they just started rehearsals two weeks ago! :)
-
I guess I liked Mighty Mouse, but I sort of remember that as something I could take or leave. But I could be completely wrong about that.
What I never fail to think of, though, when somebody mentions Mighty Mouse, is the Andy Kaufman routine on one of the earliest - if not the very first - episode of Saturday Night Live in '75.
-
TOD
These are on top of the to-be-watched pile:
To Live and Die in L.A.
The Bride Wore Black
The Conversation
Prime Cut
How's that for a motley selection? These are titles that I've seen some mention of in the past week or so, which instantly rang my bell as being time to watch them. In the case of Prime Cut, of course, it was DR John G.'s mention of it that intrigued me, and I still believe I never watched it. But we'll see.

Just posted by a local (and trusted) meteorologist:
This could be the best Memorial Day weather weekend ever. I’m not sure I could have dialed it up better if I tried. Looks like 80 degrees and sunny all through early next week.
That's good, because this holiday weekend is so often cool or overcast or rainy or all of the above. Alternatively, in one or two years, it was a hot and humid HELL. I hope this bodes well for the summer.
-
I’ve had pho many a time. It’s something I never crave but always enjoy once I’ve had it.
-
Page 3hree!

Human and kitty health vibes for the Moores!
-
Now if you’re weary of the words, those foolish little words, you find in every song… look what I’ve brought along.
Simply a tune for humming. Mmmm etc
-
I first heard/found that song on a 78 by the great Eddy Howard.
-
On the Majestic label, 1947.
-
Woody Herman, Hoagy Carmichael and Bob Houston all had competing versions out that same year, 1947.
-
At the time I found that (in an antique mall occupying the former Ben Franklin in my old hometown) I was scrounging with a pal for 78s, 45s, anything that looked good, and of all the good stuff we found we kept seeing the name Frank Loesser. We found a silver-label 45 Ep sampler of songs from The Most Happy Fella, we were hooked.
It was “Don’t Cry,” “Big D,” “Standing on the Corner,” and “Joey Joey Joey”
-
“Standing on the Corner” I already knew from the Four Lads version which I’d hear when oldies radio was still going back before Elvis a bit.
I wonder what an oldies station plays today. New wave?
-
My first pho experience was in an Oakland eatery I really enjoyed. I would usually order the clay pot as it was a total delight. The Clay Pot meal featured crab meat and Asian veggies, rice and just the right mix of spices.
So, I wondered, what would the pho be like?
Six-alarm fire from the first taste. It had only hit my tongue before I realized I was in deep trouble. Lots of water was consumed, and I did manage to eat a sufficient amount of the noodles (once extracted from the killer soup) to satisfy my hunger, most of which was put off by the heat. My pho curiousity was satisfied.
I have a favorite pho I now order from Amazon on a three-month basis (recurring order). I prepare it from provided ingredients and control how much heat, if any, goes into it.
Amazon has many different pho offerings, but the one I like is the Instant Pho Beef/Chicken Combo Pack of 4 / Authentic Vietnamese Soup/Pholicious Brand,
I first encountered this on QVC and ordered from there. But it's also on Amazon, and that is where I get it now.
-
Happy Friday!
-
I shall refrain from pondering where the week has gone.
It has gone, for me, by virtue of deliberate procrastination. I have succesfully avoided most of what my mind, weak as it has become, had decided I needed to do.
-

Johnston has its own radio station that specializes in "Classic Hits and Carolina Beach Music", most of which is from the 50s-70s. This used to be an over-the-air broadcast, but the owner of the station sold it to a Christian blue grass network, so the guys who had been running the station started an online radio service called Timeless Jukebox Radio.
Applie iPhone has the app.

I have absolutely no idea where this day is going or in what capacity I shall be along for the ride.
I do know, however, this day starts the 3-day Memorial Day weekend.
Memorial Day is an observance of all those who gave their lives for American democracy and our precious way of life.
Have a safe weekend in your plans, please. Enjoy any travel, any water fun, cookouts, what have you. But please be safe about it.

Does anyone miss Gabe Kaplan's presence on weekly TV?
-
Please note the lack of the word "else" in the preceding sentence.

I only ask because he is on an episode of "Murder, She Wrote" playing in the background as I type.

I found this poster image online. It was dated 1995. Gunn has a remarkable voice, IMO.

I, too, loved Mighty Mouse and the song. I used to sing it a lot when I was a kid.
I loved Superman more, but there were no lyrics to his theme song.
Did anyone else have their mom (or someone else) pin a towel on your shirt's shoulders so that you could run around with a "cape"?

I see that Jack Randall Earles is active along with zero guests.
He may be reading, or he may be resting.

Yes we are having fine weather here in time for The Race.
The Race that used to have ALL of the state of Indiana in a tizzy...nothing was talked about for the entire month of MAY. It was an event not to be missed.
And now it's just another race....no checkered flags in all the small towns....no parades or convertibles driving around small towns with beauty queens in the back....no discussion of all of the drivers and arguments over who is/was the best.....
It's just another race.

I cannot imagine my childhood being any different than it was. I was outside almost all the time during the days...playing with friends, riding my bike.
I never see kids playing outdoors any longer. And there are children in my neighborhood.
Well, there was one when I first moved here. His name was Billy Bob (!!) and he rode his bicycle all over my neighborhood. He was a good, decent kid with whom I had several conversations. He and his dad were evicted from their small house some years ago...his dad was/is itinerant. Billy Bob went away to live with his mom. I have seen his dad out walking from time to time. I have often wondered if he was on disability, although he walks well enough.

Break a leg vibes to DR GEORGE & Co.

I did not like the TerryToons that appeared on Captain Kangaroo....
Mighty Mouse I think got his own show later....I hated Tom Terrific and Heckle & Jeckle.

I always enjoyed the Race weekend in Indy. I lived in Lawrence (a suburb northeast of Indianapolis) for five years.
On Race Day, I would drive around all the city encountering very little to no traffic. Everone was either at the Brickyard or home watching TV.
-
Almost as much as I hated Felix the Cat.

So true DR RON PULLIAM.....ain't that way no more.

Awww...poor Heckle...poor Jeckle.
Did you, at least, like Foghorn Leghorn? Or Droopy?
-
I still don't think the race is broadcast live in the Indy market.....there is a tape delay in the evening on race day.
-
Almost as much as I hated Felix the Cat.
SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!
-
LOL Foghorn was okay....Droopy - ugh.
And those Charlton Comics Little Lulu and Baby Huey....no thanks.
-
If it was on television and Annette Funicello or Lucille Ball weren't in it, I was usually not interested.

LOL Foghorn was okay....Droopy - ugh.

Little Lulu, Little Lulu
With freckles on her chin
Always in and out of trouble,
But mostly always in.
Using daddy's necktie
for the tale of her kite,
Using mommy's lipstick
for the letters to write.
Though the clock says 7:30
it's really after 10,
Looks like Lulu's been
repairing it again.
Though she's wild as any Zulu
And she's just as hard to tame,
Little Lulu we love You-lu
just the same, the same,
Little Lulu we love You-lu just the same.
-
If it was on television and Annette Funicello or Lucille Ball weren't in it, I was usually not interested.
I, and our zero guests, are simply aghast and agog.
We loved Joan Davis, Burns and Allen, December Bride and Cleo the talking Bassett Hound.
And there were Soupy Sales and Pinky Lee!
-
I'm up, I'm up - five and a half hours of sleep.
-
Holy moley on rye - just got the Eventbrite ticket report for the June 10 show - there are only twenty-six seats left. Over eight tickets sold so far. Then there'll be some standing room if anyone wants those.

Lovely view DR Rodzinski. Is the street quiet or does it get busy?

Ed Ames had a beautiful voice. 95, wow. Plus, he was the last of the Ames Brothers.

I have enjoying the Ed Ames links from last night.

I will have to read the posts from today later as I must leave.

I do miss race-day excitement. Jim Nabors serenading us with “Back Home Again in Indiana” all that stuff that made the whole month a delight. Still seemed well-attended last year. I’ll have no way to watch this year. As a kid, we had to avoid the news during the day and watch on ABC tape-delay at night.

Quiet as can be.

No, but I did put playing cards in my bicycle spokes with clothespins.

Gold Derby interview was really fun. Hopefully, I'll get a link to it.

I hope so!

Mighty Mouse was one of the few cartoon shows I enjoyed.

I enjoyed reading about your memories of watching late night tv.

As much as I loved Superman I never did that. When Craig was little a friend made him a Superman Cape for his birthday. I still have it someplace.

I might have hated Heckle and Jeckle. Not keen on the other too, not that I remember them all that well.

I, and our zero guests, are simply aghast and agog.

I did not get the charm of Soupy Sales. I remember when the kids admired him for getting fired, I thought it was a stupid thing to do.

You will not have any trouble getting tickets. The theater seats over 500 and, as much as I love the show, I don't think it's the kind of show that will sell out.
-
I'll let you know how well we do tonight.

Enjoying Tom Hanks’ novel, which has the too-long title of The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece
-
In spite of what the Japanese nutritionist said, I am eating another hot dog.
-
DR RON PULLIAM I enjoyed Burns & Allen - Blanche Morton not so much.....Joan Davis could be funny, but she wasn't.....attractive.....I forgot to add Gale Storm who could also sing!
-
Cleo the dog was the best part of that show! I remember once someone asked her what she was doing sitting on the kitchen stove....the dog looked at the camera and "her" voice said:
Now and then I just get the urge to ride the range.
-
I do not watch ANY late night talk show any more. I watched Carson up to a point. I watched Letterman. Never got into Leno or Rivers or Colbert or O'Brien.
I guess Jimmy Kimmel is the only one who sort of makes me laugh. But none of them make me laugh like Steve Allen did. His man on the street interviews, his soap operas that panned to faces in the audience, his introductions designed to deflate egos....his piano ad libs.....
-
I agree with MR BK - it hasn't evolved - late night television has devolved.

Are we still on Page seven?

This week, George C. Scott was a TOD. I’m now starting The List of Adrian Messenger, which I have never seen.

I don't think I've seen that all the way through DR JOHN G.

There were two emails.....that's what the first one said. Then the second one sent ten minutes later said "Never mind....it's there....I didn't see it the first time."
-
So there.
-
I thought that would be page eight....I guess I was wrong.
-
I loved Letterman since his daytime talk show. I like Arsenio Hall for a short while. Never liked Leno or Conan. And I haven’t seen any of the newer ones except for Colbert.

Steve Allen was great.
I have an autographed album of his hanging up.
Nice :)
-
Keith introduced me to Steve Allen.
-
I never watched a lot of late night tv so I am glad Allen decided to do a day show instead.
-
DR Jane, what a lovely anniversary surprise from Keith.
Thank you, and the way he told me was cute.
-
I just saw an online fundraiser auction where one of the items was a basket of "banned" books.
I thought that was a clever idea.
-
Iris, one year Keith took our Holiday letter to work to make copies. He returned home and handed the stack of letters to me without saying anything about them. To my shock, at the bottom of the letter, it said we went to Williamsburg for my birthday (Dec 7th).
-
Because he also has a great sense of humor, I checked that every copy said the same before I began screaming ;)

Peekaboo!
-
By hook or by crook, we'll get to page nine.
-
Very soon.
-
In almost an instant.
-
Nine.
-
My mother got her box of candy today - the brands that were on offer in 1936.
-
She was delighted, and she and her sister had a great time reminiscing.
-
I told her if they blow bubble gum bubbles, I want a photo.
-
This was the second one I had sent, directly to them from Amazon.
-
The first one, via USPS, is still missing. Tomorrow, enough time will have passed that I'll be able to file a reimbursement claim.
-
Anyway, if you know someone that might appreciate a box of candy of the types that were available in the year they were born, it's a fun gift, and I highly recommend it.
-
Thrilled that there will be a mini-HHW reunion in the Northwest very soon!
Me, too!
-
I hope there will be photos.
You can count on it!
-
;)

DR George, it’s opening night!
Break a leg!
Thanks, Iris!

Peekaboo!

Cute!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
George, how can you be opening already?
Break an appendage if you must. And have a good opening.
-
Acupuncture today, followed by tacos.
-
We've been having unseasonably cold weather all week. I can't imagine many people will be at the beach this weekend. Just too cold. I was wearing a fleece jacket today. In May! I'm not complaining, though. I prefer cool to hot.
-

Thanks, Jeanne!

Vibes to all.
TTFN.
-
My mother got her box of candy today - the brands that were on offer in 1936.
What a relief.
-
She was delighted, and she and her sister had a great time reminiscing.
Sweet :)
-
I told her if they blow bubble gum bubbles, I want a photo.
;D
-
This was the second one I had sent, directly to them from Amazon.
I guess the first one is truly lost.
-
The first one, via USPS, is still missing. Tomorrow, enough time will have passed that I'll be able to file a reimbursement claim.
Vibes you don't have any problems getting your money.
-
I saw Adrian Messenger at the Picwood Theater - loved it and the "device." But it's obvious that the guest stars didn't ALL do their roles - a couple for sure just did the ending. I happen to know that Sinatra wasn't in the film proper - just the removing the make-up section. Would you like to know who DID the Sinatra part in the make-up in the movie proper? Look no further than Muse Margaret's ever-lovin' daddy.
-
That was interesting, and a fun bit of info. Did he receive credit for his role?
-
Whoa. Incredible. Just looked on IMDb and found that.
-
I had to take a break in the movie. The pain got a little much.
-
I’m now back for the last 30 minutes
-
We are going to watch the last episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
-
Just knocked off one of the movies on my list: The Conversation.
I hadn't watched it in maybe a decade, and this time was, first and foremost, for seeing and appreciating Cindy Williams.
But oh man, this is right at the top of the heap with the best of the 1970s paranoia films. Pakula had his paranoid trilogy, and Hollywood had its paranoid DECADE. There has never been another period of time like it.
If only Hollywood of the 1970s could have seen what it was to become half a century later...
-
That was fun.
-
The first one, via USPS, is still missing. Tomorrow, enough time will have passed that I'll be able to file a reimbursement claim.

I just realized that I have the same problem. I'd ordered the new Broadway cast recording of Parade (https://castalbums.org/recordings/Parade-2023-Broadway-Cast/47747/), and Amazon shows that it was delivered on Tuesday, but it's not anywhere! >:(
-
And the opposite problem...the London cast recording of No, No Nanette (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000262HM) still shows that it's not been delivered yet, but I got it on Monday.
-
WTH?? :o
-
We have been watching Happy Valley on Acorn TV. It's very dark. Kind of like Fargo, in a way. Things keep going wrong.
-
But not like a play that goes wrong.
-
Starting Creed III. May not finish tonight.
-
:)
-
Sorry about your pain, DR John G.
-
Sorry about your pain, DR John G.
Thank you. Now, if you can make JB understand …
-
Good night, friends.
-
Walking Among My Yesterdays is a favorite Kander and Ebb song from The Happy Time. Looks like it’s been refashioned for New York, New York as Light.

-
Pain free vibes for DR JOHN G.
-
Well Reno & Sir Evelyn are singing some gypsy song.....I hope this isn't replacing Let's Misbehave.....but I am reticent....oh YES....I'm reticent.
-
I got a text last week from Xfinity that said that their readers show that they can help me get faster speed and better pictures - so they wanted to me to set up a maintenance call....so I did. It is tomorrow.
I'm still not quite sure what is going to happen. But they said it's free to me.
-
Page Ten is going along well.
-
DR George - there are still a few more hours for you to more fully explore your character's backstory.
Too late. My character is frozen! ;D
Awww...you always seem so warm and friendly.
-
When I lived in Indianapolis way back when I always enjoyed watching the start of IU basketball games on TV. Not for the game, mind you, but for this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpgI8BMuNhw
-
That lady was a professor in the IU music department and specialized in opera.
-
Break a leg, G!
-
What’s working about Creed III is Jonathan Majors, who unfortunately turned out to be too close to his character in real life. But he isn’t boxed in (pardon the pun) by the iconography of the role. Jordan has to be hero and underdog both. And he’s more sumbol than human.
Still it’s not a bad movie.
-
I will also say that Michael B. Jordan’s physique is quite impressive.
-
So, if we are to believe the MTG’s of the world, the Republicans who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 are fine citizens who should be lauded for their attempt to overthrow the government. Yet the woman sentenced today to 8 years is trans, which means she’s not worthy of anything but disdain. What gives?
-
I caused a lull.
-
I’m waiting for my phone to finish charging.
-
So I have started Battling Butler, a Buster Keaton film that also has boxing in it.
It’s a silent movie based on a musical. The songwriters probably weren’t too happy about that.
-
We’re almost done with this page

Gratuitous post 300!
-
Page 11!
-
Watched two things - HBO could not be hiding the Mary Tyler Moore documentary any worse. I had to search it by her name and even then it was buried in the seasons of her TV show.
-
It should be large on their splash page. Nope.
-
Good night, all.
-
George is taking his curtain call?
-
He'll probably go out celebrating, get drunk, smoke the marijuana cigarettes, eat a huge meal, and forget all about li'l ol' us.
-
Meanwhile, I'm halfway through the Mary documentary and it's very good. And let me just say this - David Susskind as an interviewer was a pig.
-
And?
-
Really?
-
You don't say.
-
DR George - there are still a few more hours for you to more fully explore your character's backstory.
Too late. My character is frozen! ;D
Awww...you always seem so warm and friendly.
I am...it's called acting! ;)
-
Maybe I should've said that my characterization is frozen. ::)
-
Break a leg, G!
Thanks, Rodzinski!
-
George is taking his curtain call?
Nope! I'm home!
-
Last night, we finished the show at about 10:30 after starting around 7:35.
-
Tonight, I was in my car and driving home at about 10:35 even after changing my clothes and visiting with our adoring fans!
-
He'll probably go out celebrating, get drunk, smoke the marijuana cigarettes, eat a huge meal, and forget all about li'l ol' us.
No, I actually have been driving the Nurse/Mrs. home, and tonight I did just that.
-
Then, I came home and ate a (cold from this afternoon) McDonald's Quarter Pounder.
-
I had some kind of fry sauce in my fridge, so with that, it wasn't too bad.
-
And I certainly don't smoke anything, let alone the marijuana cigarettes!
-
If I were to partoke (again), it would have to be the edible kind (again)...and be stronger than what I had before.
-
It barely affected me, at all.
-
If it doesn't, what's the point?? :-\
-
No one should be smoking the marijuana cigarettes. They are evil and so are the dummies.
-
How can we still be on this unseemly page.
-
So a little earlier, a friend sent me a link to to a TikTok video.
-
The very next video was this guy saying that the musical montage on the final episode of Johnny Carson The Tonight Show has never officially been released.
-
Surely there must be another page lurking.
-
There must be.
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
See?
-
New notes are up.
-
It was never released on the DVDs, nor on any streaming service.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
The only way to see it is if someone recorded the actual broadcast.
-
I wrote them.
-
He then had the rest of his TikTok be that montages because he recorded the final episode.
-
And now that George's show has opened I know that he'll be buckling down Winsocki and writing a damn review.
-
I looked on YouTube and others had recorded and uploaded the whole episode with the aforementioned montage...and here's a link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecbTWZaTB60
-
I just know it.
-
I just do.
-
Jump to 22:45 to get to the specific spot on the video. It's pretty cool!
-
No one call tell me otherwise.
-
And now that George's show has opened I know that he'll be buckling down Winsocki and writing a damn review.
I shall...eventually. :)
