All this talk of the remake of the Poseidon Adventure makes me think of the Mad Magazine take off which they called (and which I always think of when PA is mentioned) The Poopside Down Adventure.
Jose, I am so jealous that you went to Musical Monday at Splash last night. I love Musical Mondays and have been trying to get Rodzinski to come with me to check it out. Let us know if you want company the next time you go.
Last night DR Dan (the Man) wrote: "Speaking of Tony Awards--I know I've mentioned this many times here but I'll mention it again: I own Alexis Smith's Tony Award for Follies. I bought it on eBay. It's missing its base. Until I think of a nice way to display it, I'll keep it in a velvet pouch in my sock drawer."
If you've mentioned it, I have either forgotten or didn't see the post because this was a most pleasant surprise to me. But, if it's missing its base (where the recipient's name is supposedly engraved), how can you be sure it's hers? Is her name on the back, too, or is there a reference number that autheticates it?
Like DR JRand, I'd love to see a picture of it too.
As for the base, I know Barbara Cook's Tony (which was awarded before they started installing them on bases) has been mounted on a base for her, so I'm sure it could be remounted. If you know the name of the award company that manufactures the awards (it might be listed in a Tony program I have), I'm sure you could pay to have it put back on a base.
Oh, my. An HHW gathering at a "special interest establishment" Jose, what have you started ;)I'm sure that Rodzinski will be happy to have your support.
Actually, it could be a lot of fun, and Jose and Jason could run interference for any "indecent proposals" offered to Rodzinski ;) ;) There's no nudge smiley so I can't continue.
In my ANNIE research, I had run across a picture of an absolutely legit mock-up poster showing that at one point, in a presumably more campy version, Bernadette Peters was actually being talked about to play Little Orphan Annie in the musical version.
How 'bout an HHW gathering on Monday, October 3? Danise will already be in town, I think, and my flight is due in at 12:30pm.

I've never been to Splash on Musical Mondays or any other night of the week. I've been to Posh - that's not so bad. Jose and I would be happy to keep the hounds at bay for DR Rodzinski.
I guess Jose didn't see my question of yesterday.
I guess Jose is IGNORING the question.

I wonder what Jose is doing come November.[/b]
Well...
I'm supposed to be starting rehearsals for Damn Yankees, but things, as they say, are always subject to change.
Stop giving me the Gaslight treatment.
I shall now be on my way to the LACC meeting.
Oh, BK! That LACC meeting was YESterday. Don't you remember being there?
(Mwah-ha-hah!)
Stop giving me the Gaslight treatment. So, you're busy in November. Oh, well, we might have had employment for you.
I shall now be on my way to the LACC meeting.

TPunk, LOL!
Watch MTV come out with Annie: The Hip Hop Musical.
DR Ben,
I wonder if that is the same Brenda Braxton that is a newscaster on our Channel 8 news in Portland! I adore her, and I know she has done some stage work.
In hopefully-not-so-wrong-headed casting news, I've already heard back from last night's audition (how I love directors who don't take ages to make their decisions), and I will be playing Jack Chesney in Charley's Aunt. We start rehearsals next Wednesday, opening night on Sept. 9th. Guess it can be useful to have your lone schedule conflict be callbacks. :D
I've held Maggie Ray's special Oscar and I've touched Chuck Heston's. I've also seen his "rod of god", the Moses staff, from The Ten Commandments.

Twisting songs! And can you twist DR Rodzinski?
Is it horrible of me to be amused by the concept of a CD of "dead girl" songs? Oh well, amused I am, horrible or not!
Weekly visits?
Partial Annie cast:
Annie: Katie Holmes

I wonder if Joey knows about this, since one of the reasons he's coming to New York is to see A Tale of Two Cities. It's a story about the upcoming performances (from Playbill On-Line)
http://www.playbill.com/news/article/94227.html
OH!
Two phone calls... Two more gigs!
Will wonders never cease?
:)
By the way, if I haven't said directly yet...
I LOVE NEW YORK![/b][/size]
:D
I hope one of them isn't that tired Tijuana donkey act.
So, DRJose, anything happening in Williamstown?
Steal a 12-foot tall Suzanne Somers for me!

Ron, Ben got all the facts right about me and Martha Raye and her Jean Hersholt Oscar. I can't believe I misspelled her name. Must've been a typo.
Congrats on your new, upcoming role, DR Jed. I know you just got cast, but do you know the performance dates?
I haven't done a play in a long time (three years - MY THREE ANGELS was the last one), and the last time I did, I realized that despite all the choreography and needing to keep your voice in shape and as disease-free as possible for performances, I prefer doing musicals to plays.
Ginny, Cincinnati Playhouse-in-the-Park is one of my favourite regional theatres. Spent many a happy hour seeing theatre there. I think it's a great venue. I was sort of an habitue of the place when Word Baker was Artistic Director. Got to know him slightly when he attended some theatre conferences when we were in college.
DR JRand - has the cold front reached you yet? They say it's due here tonight and the forecast high tomorrow is about 20 degrees cooler than today. Hoo and ray.
So many postings - we're cookin' with gas here at haineshisway.com. I must soon be on my way to meeting number two, but prior to that I must stop at the post office to ship off some packages.
OH! Before I forget again...
DR Dan (the Man) - David Burnham's Italian did sound a bit more "authentic", but I could tell he was taught it phonetically. It was a little too perfect, if you get my drift. -I used to coach opera singers from time to time, so...
However, I think part of the "fault" lies in the setting of the text. It's very by the book, and not colloquial enough - especially for Fabrizio's social station.
But, boy, was that high B-flat beautiful last night!
*David mentioned that he had just been on again this past weekend... And that he actually went on soon after the opening since Matthew Morrison was sick. And he announced last night that he would be singing a couple of more performance in September when Matthew Morrison takes his vacation... However... It was announced that Matthew Morrison would be leaving the show at the end of August... So...
MBarnum: Where on Holt? You can take Laurel Canyon, then cross Sunset and Laurel becomes Crescent Heights. You can continue south on Crescent Heights for miles - if you give me a block number I can tell you where you'll need to turn to cut over to Holt, which will be to your right (west).
DR Rodzinski - I've always liked the "Drowning songs"- Darling Jane, Johnny Surboard and Moody River
Does anyone here find this wrong:
GODSPELL
(From the composer of Wicked)
Taken from a program ad from a local theatre companies children's theatre company's winter show.....
It just seems wrong to me that a show that is 30+ years old needs to be advertised with the new Broadway "craze".... (with kids and teens, anyway)
Tonight's Big Brother 6 (and has DR Jennifer dropped off the face of the earth or what???) will be the Veto Competition, which will be VERY exciting to many viewers. We should also get the Veto ceremony, which, again, should prove HIGHLY exciting and entertaining.
Coincidentally, someone just brought in posters to the office that says "Don't twist while holding a load."
To answer Matt's question about the oscar. I always heard it was heavier than it looked. So I was prepared. But it was still heavier than I thought it would be.They say you should always look for melons and other kinds of fruits and vegetables that are heavy for their size.
Actually, that was me not Dan (the Man) who asked about the accent, but thanks for the info!
I have another question: Is is common to raise the key for someone (an understudy, even) who can sing it higher or do you think that they raised it because the key was otherwise too low for David Burnham?
I'll answer this one. Mr. Burnham's keys are actually the original keys - Mr. Morrison's were lowered to fit his voice.Interesting. :)
I actually got to meet David after a performance back in May. He's a very nice guy and he is very handsome. We hung out in his dressing room while he changed out of costume. Jealous??I'm not going to say yes, I'm going to say HELL YES!! ;) ;D

DR Jose, perhaps we can have a liquid refreshment at one of them thar "special interest" establishments when I come to New York.
DR George - with my "apologies" to DR Dan (the Man)... As DR Jason pointed out, Fabrizio's music was lowered for Matthew Morrison.
As for the Seattle run of Light in the Piazza, Fabrizio was played by either Stephen di Pasquale or Wayne Wilcox (who I just worked with at Vassar). -And the Clara for both productions was Celia Keenan-Bolger. And she was replaced when the show came into New York, however, she got into Spelling Bee - and landed a Tony nomination too!
-Don't you just love happy endings?
:)
HooRay!
UPS just delivered the Complete 2nd Season of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" DVD boxed set!
I could never audition for Mike in A CHORUS LINE because the key the song is in, I suppose, is Wayne Cilento's original key which was too high for my voice. So, I made do with Greg and Don.

Ah, if I had a nickel for every time I have said that!
...Rod McKuen's voice...I wonder if he smoked. ...Smoked what? (Brand? Or other?)
Ice cream...
Iiiiice creeaaamm....
SPOILER
I watched the last 15 minutes of BIG BROTHER 6. Yep, I loved the Eric lemmings all distraught over his inevitable eviction. It IS fun when the tables get turned.
DR George -
Don't forget about RENO 911! tonight. My DVR got it, but I won't see it until tomorrow.
