Well, you've read the notes, the notes lacked focus, and now it is time for you to post until the lacking focus cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ESPERANCE!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I awoke in the middle of the night from a strange dream.
In it, Sondheim was writing a new musical. He had a special writing place with a secret/hidden entrance.
There was also a tuna sandwich.
And in some way I can't recall now, those two things were closely linked.
-
Thanks for the link, DR John G.
Yes, we all need more time to watch such things.
But it isn't forthcoming.
-
ANNIVERSARY CONGRATULATIONS to vixdad!!!!!!!
-
Thanks also to DR George for the podcast link(s).
-
Like sausage links.
-
Only different.

Thanks also to DR George for the podcast link(s).
My pleasure.

And NOW, I must get back to sleep! 8)

We don't need no stinkin' sleep.

Well actually, we do.
-
But sometimes it doesn't come.
-
The bugger.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I looked up A Transparent Musical, which appears to be a family affair, to see the cast and credits. The director Tina Landau directed the original production ofAdam Guettel's Floyd Collins, which I loved. The orchestrator, John Clancy, is an old friend from Goodspeed. He's doing very well.
-
The only cast person I knew was Liz Larsen.
-
I read the synopsis of the show and thought, I pass.

-
I also looked up Water for Elephants, and Chris is not in it. I guess he's taking care of the family while Jessica works. The musical doesn't sound very interesting to me, but the original novel does.

This morning my helper Mario is coming by, and I hope we can make a dent in these books littering the floor.

-
Curious, for those of you who Wordle...
Do you use the same starter word every day, or do you change it up?
I use a different word every day, and I keep in mind previous words so that I don't use a word that starts with the same letter or has the same structure but may have one different letter.
It almost always helps me find the correct word.
-
Slept well again.

Balanced reporting this morning in that a variety of stories are being explored instead of one being analyzed to death.

Sheldon Harnick dead at 99.

Sad news about Harnick, but 99 years is a long life spean.
-
By the way...
It is Friday here in Johnston SC.
-
Good morning, all.

I enjoyed DR JOHN G's monolog on Page Seven last night....perhaps we should start a tradition that whoever StaRTS page seven - has to finish it!

It's Friday here, too, DR RON PULLIAM.

Congrats to VIXDAD!

BK made my morning by calling out the Open Fourth Syndrome.
That's been on my mind for - well, for months, if not longer - but especially since I'd made my li'l historic return to playing a number of auditions this spring, because there's no better way to get exposed to the songs and musicals that are popular with the younger populace. At one point while sightreading yet another cockamamie "power ballad" and trying to quickly get its "groove" into my head and ears so I could send it to my fingers, a lightbulb went on: In a moment of doubt or panic through a busy passage, keep the chord structure to "clean" open fifths and fourths, and you'll have a better than even chance of being correct. And it worked.
Some of these songs weren't even the latest, but from shows like Wicked - which perhaps I should be embarrassed to say I hardly know - so the syndrome goes back farther than I might have suspected. But it's the rule, man. Open fifths and fourths, with a generous sprinkling of sus2 and sus4 chords throughout.

BRILLIANT. Thank you, DR Jrand72.
That one stayed brilliant right up to the end. Sometimes just the headline is enough, but this one rewarded throughout.
I miss The Onion. By that, I mean that Facebook had been throwing a decent number of their genius little stories into my "feed", and they suddenly, inexplicably, stopped - just like many things that happen on Facebook. I think they've substituted a couple of copycat sites, so I must see what I can do to get The Onion back.
-
The Open Fourth Syndrome
by Robert Ludlum
Haha!
-
Can you explain the open fourth syndrome for the laypeople? Or provide an audio example so I can understand?
-
Yesterday they had the preschool “graduation” for our youngest. One can argue if kids need to have this sort of ceremony at every step, but it was cute.

Sheldon Harnick dead at 99.
I interviewed him a lifetime ago. What a gentleman. What a talent. I was thinking of him yesterday when Alexa played Tonight at Eight.

Here ya go!

-
I met Sheldon Harnick when Bruce Pomahac hired me to score a couple of songs from Rex that Sheldon wanted back in the score. After that, since we lived only a few blocks apart, I saw him around the neighborhood. He was a true mensch.
-
Thank you DR Jrand.
-
Congratulations to Vixdad on his one year anniversary.
-
DR George, thanks for the link yesterday. I watched it this morning.
-
I agree it was thoughtful, respectful, and not sensational.
-
Thanks, DR elmore3003!
-
My rabbit, Freddy Joe, was white but he didn’t have pink eyes. He did have about five black hairs on his nose, which were fairly unnoticeable until you got close up.
I dreamt about Freddy last night and remember getting close enough to see those black hairs and cuddle with him.
-
I also use different opening words when I play WORDLE.
-
If you can pass by this list of names story I just posted on the theeder website, you can see some better pictures of our set with a lot of brats standing in front of it.

I took a look at the beginning of the MORNING'S link that DR ELMORE posted....it was nice....I certainly like the actresses more than I like the actors....but then I guess that's the play.
-
AH - in the last photo you can also see our elevated orchestra pit.
-
Theeder is becoming a habit with MR BK - I look forward to his musings about the production he is viewing this weekend.
-
I should add that I’m two-thirds of the way through Watership Down, so I have had wabbits on the bwain.

DR JOHN G that's pretty funny.
-
Ken....I shall have to remember that if I am ever in France, Europe.
-
I also liked your story about your rabbit. The only rabbit we ever had would not let us hold her.....she was good at biting finger tips....and also ate most of the litter of baby bunnies she had - before we turned her loose into the wild.
-
If she wasn't already expecting when we put her into the cage - this is a story for the New Testament.
-
The only esoteric musical term I know is Every Cow Eats Grass.
-
Thank you for the photos and the other link, DR Jrand72.
The hell with Facebook. I have now subscribed to The Onion's weekly dispatch, and I might even increase it to the daily. We shall see.
-
Question for BK:
Did the Vernon Duke III CDs ever go out, or are those still in supply chain Hell?
Or is my "inventory", such as it is, screwed up, which can certainly be the case?
Thank you, sir!
-
I like your first words DR JOHN G.....I shall have to try those out.

-
Now, it's become a habit.
-
I got in the habit, but not in the habit. ;)
-
Sheldon Harnick dead at 99.
Oh, no. :( But wow...99 years!
-
I bought a letter from BK that Sheldon Harnick wrote when they were discussing a possible recording of Wonderful Life. I’ll have to read that tonight.
-
Yesterday they had the preschool “graduation” for our youngest. One can argue if kids need to have this sort of ceremony at every step, but it was cute.
How long have these elementary school "graduation" ceremonies been happening? I didn't graduate from anything until my one high school graduation (and then a couple of college graduations, of course). :o

Funny you should ask that today, DR singdaw. Today I used a new opening word. Someone on Instagram mentioned it. It was "CANOE." That helped me get Wordle in 2 today. I also use ADIEU, SLATE and SOARE.
-
Hello, Kevin!

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.

I'm doing what ChasSmith is doing - going to watch as many Preview Harvey movies as listed in the appendix.

Sorry, but I don't see these multi-billion dollar corporate penalty payouts (Fox for disinformation, 3M for pollution, the Sacklers for hooking the nation on drugs) as being heavy enough to deter them from keeping on behaving in the same manner. The Sacklers, at least, were put out of business. But they still have plenty of dough left over.
-
Indeed DR singdaw.
-
Thanks for comments all. Very nice and appreciated.
-
DR JANE during straight play it is also where we put actors who don't follow directions.
-
Sunday is my family reunion - on my father's side.....I am reticent...OH YES....I am reticent.
-
Almost time for a new episode of OUTLANDER.
-
They keep saying "Brief Nudity" in the pre show warnings....but I have yet to see any of Jamie's cheeks....I may have to cancel my Starz subscription.

DR JANE during straight play it is also where we put actors who don't follow directions.

I hope you have a good time.
-
I must say Friday comes very quickly these days.
-
I'm sure it does, DR Jane. You just need to hang on for a few more weeks.
-
Yes it does, DR JANE.
Any day without a rehearsal is appreciated by the likes of me.
-
DR Jrand72 is going to find some Pink Ladies up on that platform around Thanksgiving, I think.
-
By the way - I've always wondered - is the Playhouse air-conditioned, DR Jrand72?
-
DR singdaw we do have air conditioning since we have added new metal siding to the barn about 20 years ago.....it is always comfortable inside.
We also have NEW units this season - so it is fine inside.
-
Bring a sweater.
-
For the pleasure of the patrons just a couple of weeks ago....new air conditioning units.

I'm sure it does, DR Jane. You just need to hang on for a few more weeks.
Thanks.
-
There are worse places to go ;D
-
The drive is lovely, and Bend is a very nice place. We once considered moving there.
-
Yes it does, DR JANE.
Any day without a rehearsal is appreciated by the likes of me.
:)
-
The books - they iz a-comin'!!!!
They’d better. I filed my PayPal complaint last week.
-
I survived Costco.
-
Surviving the heat is another matter.
-
We’re only a few posts from our favorite page.
-
I got 10 films from the library today.
-
Plus Chita Rivera reading her autobiography.
-
I’m up to rehearsals for West Side Story.
-
Seven
-
Lucky number seven.
-
I hope Chita devotes three chapters to Bajour. And at least one chapter to Merlin.
-
I survived Costco.
We need to make a trip there.
-
I did get to see her once. It was in Spiderwoman, which I loved.
-
It will have to wait until we are done with our current travels.
-
So, despite what I said earlier about what I was going to watch this weekend, I may change my mind.
-
I have a perfect double feature: Stephen Frears’ The Lost King with Sally Hawkins as a woman searching for Richard III’s bones. Plus, a filmed version of Richard III.
-
But I also want to see The Quiet Girl, based on Claire Keegan’s Foster, one of favorite books of last year.
-
And John Wick 4.
-
I think that’s based on a novel by Jane Austen.
-
From her ultraviolent period.
-
I also got Obsession, which BK wrote about the other day.
-
Have never seen it.
-
But first some Melvin van Peebles shorts.
-
The disc was already in the player, and I am too lazy to change it.
-
Okay, I filled half the page. It’s time to leave it to someone else.
-
I thought the new rule was: Page Seven. If you start it, you have to finish it.
-
Melvin van Peebles shorts.
I hope they were laundered first.
-
I am listening to the Terry Trotter Trio: The Fantasticks in Jazz.
-
And ma toe is tappin'.
-
Gotta dance?
-
Gene Kelly I ain't.
-
Or even Chita Rivera.
-
DR JRand will surely be broken up to learn that Paramount+ canceled the Pink Ladies prequel series with prejudice (they're completely removing it from the platform).
-
But I also want to see The Quiet Girl, based on Claire Keegan’s Foster, one of favorite books of last year.
I enjoyed the book. Please let me know what you think of the film.
-
I think that’s based on a novel by Jane Austen.
;D
-
DR RODZINSKI I read about that.....changing one's mind with a vengeance I would say.
-
I am watching the second half of GREY GARDENS....the documentary.
-
Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? is next.....I am trying to enjoy TCM as long as I can.
-
DR JANE when do you get home?
-
Page Eight....thank goodness!
-
Keith is popping corn.
-
DR JANE when do you get home?
We came home yesterday and return on Monday.
-
We are going to watch Extraction.
-
'night
-
I fell asleep. I hope I don’t stay up half the night.
-
I won't.
-
If I can help it.
-
But you never know.
-
Maybe tonight, I'll find out if Sondheim ate the tuna sandwich.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Good night, Singdaw.
-
I have started cooking again. A little.
-
Now I have too much in my fridge.
-
Cherries and blueberries were on sale today.
-
DR JANE is certainly the gadabout.....and we all know what the Apostle Paul said about such women.
-
“Has anyone eaten at Fog City Diner?”
Asked by DR Jane the other night.
We had dinner there in April/1986 with our then 10 month old little one.
I love diners, and had a great time at this one.
-
The sign on the front door said NO CRYBABIES. 😊
The neon clock spelled out DON’T WORRY.
-
Most of this day seems to be one-liners.
-
The diner brought to mind the painting “Nighthawks” by Edward Hopper.
-
I bought the cookbook, and I remember using their recipes to bake wonderful peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, lemon-almond pound cake, and many excellent varieties of bread.
-
Unfortunately, the original restaurant has closed, and its replacement is getting poor reviews.
-
Guess I’ll return to watching the ongoing military coup in Moscow.
Could get interesting.
-
Now the House GOP want to expunge Trump’s two impeachments.
-
Starting Obsession.
-
Did BK write this? It’s from a review of Encores! Light in the Piazza.
Thanks to the “American Idol” aesthetic that has infected many new Broadway musicals, audiences are now encouraged to applaud as soon as a singer hits a high note and some technician in the back of the theater artificially pumps up the volume. What a pleasure to see an audience sit silent and spellbound whenever Zavelson, Gish and Miles sing. Repeatedly, the well-deserved ovations were held until after the very last note.
-
Let’s get off this page.
-
Only a few to go

Right?

Watching a long movie.
-
Someone on Facebook just posted about Sheldon Harnick's passing at ninety-nine - TOO SOON! Are people insane? Too soon? Living to 99 is the exception and rare one at that. Let me reiterate: Are people insane?

That was written by Robert Hofler for The Wrap.

This production is receiving excellent reviews across the board.
I hope it will transfer to Broadway.
Have listened to a few of the rehearsals, and am very impressed.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riahCt6Cpq8
Here are some highlights from the current production.
The young female lead in the role of Clara, Anna Zavelson, graduated from high school only last year.
I love her voice.
-
I also love Ruthie Ann Miles.
I prefer her to Victoria Clark, who won a Tony Award in this role at Lincoln Center.
-
Guess I should write some damn notes after the damn long movie.
-
Surely George must be home from his Phase 24 games.
-
Surely he must.
-
I did get to see her once. It was in Spiderwoman, which I loved.
I never saw Chita perform, but I did see a non-Equity tour of Spiderwoman. It was very good!
-
Surely George must be home from his Phase 24 games.
Yup!
-
There were only three of us, so we played four games.
-
I won one, then Mona won two in a row! Then mom won the last one.
-
Whew!
-
;)
-
She would've been very upset if she didn't win at least one game.
-
But she did, so all is well.
-
Now the House GOP want to expunge Trump’s two impeachments.
Effing idiots! ::)

I saw that clip before. I really like the excerpts...and the show!

Ouch! I just reclined on my bed incorrectly, and I think I pulled a muscle.
