Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a surprise, and now it is time for you to post until the surprise cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: COGENT!
-
BK, that's a great story about reconnecting with your cameraman...and about working with Dana Plato.
-
Notes attacked. Ransacked.
-
And boy, we’re they a wild ride!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well. I had one rather funny dream in which my friend - and DR Laura's, too! - Ben Davis appeared, but I remember nothing about it now.
-
It's been a strange morning, and I am way behind my usual schedule. After working several hours yesterday on ballet number 31, I decided I hated it and tossed out eleven pages of orchestration. I'll begin it fresh today.
-
BK, I think I've heard you tell the story about Prime Suspect before, but I really love it. Now I want to see the movie.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Rodzinski, the Ed Sullivan clip that BK mentioned of Do Re Mi is fascinating. Nancy Walker is spectacular.
-
I am using my Kindle. I loathe the spellchecker.

Wordle and Phoodle 3

Packing up to leave later.

DR George, I thought around ten years ago, Jack the Ripper through DNA was discovered to have been a Soho butcher.
Around 2000, plagiarist nitwit author Patricia Cornwell wrote a book about Jack the Ripper, claiming that she had solved the question of the Ripper's identity. She identified the killer as Walter Sickert, a painter at the time. She's now written a second book, Sickert, about the killer. Well, she's a liar: around 1975 British author Stephen Knight wrote Jack the Ripper: the Final Solution, naming - guess who? - Walter Sickert as the killer in association with Queen Victoria's surgeon and the Masons to stop the news of one of the royal prince's marriage and child with one of Sickert's models! This meant tracking down the wife and her witnesses at the wedding to silence them.
This royal scandal was the basis for Bob Clark's wonderful film Murder by Decree.
-
DR Rodzinsky, I have seen a third-rate off-Broadway mounting of Do-Re-Mi, which was pretty bad. I think it was originally a second-rate show with a first-rate score and cast, and the production I saw did nothing to make it look like a prize.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Slept long and hard, for once.
-
Great fun to read about DR Jrand's great audience.
-
;) Is that it, DR Singdaw? Three posts and then out the door?
I hope you get that carbonation machine replaced really soon. You're running out of ... gas.
-
I slept very well but my dreams were wonky.
Not willy wonky, either.
The last one, however, floored me.
I was in what I thought to be my house and i had an open door. A ady wearing a hat approached the door, smiling in at me. She reminded me of Beah Richards.
I said hello, beckoned her to come in, and then I asked "How may I help you?"
She smiled and then replied: "I've come to kill you."
She then walked into another room. A friend came in and asked what I was up to. I told him about the lady. He said "What lady?"
I pointed toward the room she walked into.
"There's no one there", he claimed.
I woke up.
-
Jack Randall Earles: Tread on that dream with care, please.
-
I'm glad the lady didn't kill you.
-
How often do you get to say that sentence?
-
I just couldn't pass up the opportunity.
-
To completely change the subject, I wonder who wrote the copy for the "Bonnie and Clyd" ads that read:
"They're young...they're in love...and they kill people."
I remember it was quite a controversial ad at that time...at least in the wilds of North and South Carolina.
-
I'm not all that familiar with the score to Do Re Mi.
-
How often do you get to say that sentence?
It beats the hell out of the alternative (opposite) sentiment!
-
But I found the Ed Sullivan clips, and I'm sad to say that I found what I saw... annoying.
-
And you know how annoying annoying can be.
-
TWO!!
-
But I found the Ed Sullivan clips, and I'm sad to say that I found what I saw... annoying.
Do you attribute that annoyance, in any small measure, to the lack of carbonation in your system?
-
I could very well be, DR Ron Pulliam.
-
And on that note... (F flat)...
-
The air quality here spiked yesterday to 208.
-
It is now down to 132.
-
It is eerie, wondering if it is safe to go outside.
-
And unsettling after 3 years of the pandemic.
-
DR RON PULLIAM the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream is most interesting because it contains so many different elements.
The lady in the hat intent on your demise tells us that you sometimes worry about being the victim of situation or illness that took a close loved one away from you.....you welcoming her into your home means that you are not fearful of circumstances that are now puzzling to you, but you are reticent....oh YES, you are reticent.
The fact that she is no longer to be found or seen when a friend comes by lets us know while thinking about your past can be pleasant you sometimes also find it a distraction to living your life today.

Boy howdy did I enjoy the notes today!
A wonderful story and a great reunion ending!
-
Now I have to work on the Morning's At Seven audition article.....do an audition sheet and scan some sides so that all of that can be posted to the website.
-
I hope everyone is having a great Summer so far! There's a new Broadway Radio Show up on the site for your listening pleasure. We go behind the scenes on the big new Broadway musical New York, New York to chat with the Tony Award nominated orchestrators of the show Sam Davis and Daryl Waters. They talk about working with John Kander, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Susan Stroman and you'll hear some tracks from the show's cast recording. Check it out:

Sounds good, DR Donald.

I shall endeavor to send you some S&H green stamps.
-
DR Jrand72 - are you considering e-x-p-a-n-d-i-n-g the show?
MORNINGS AT SEVEN - with a cast of THIRTY-SEVEN!
-
I wonder if I can buy my new carbonator with green stamps?
-
And why did green stamps go the way of the dodo bird?
-
It is now down to 132.
Here in Johnston SC, the AQI is 27. Of course, it's hot as the hinges to the gates of hell, but at least we can breathe safely.
-
And why did green stamps go the way of the dodo bird?
Did you ever spend a Saturday morning inside an S&H Green Stamp redemption center? Lawdy.
I think some of those workers had to have been/gone batcrap crazy. They literally counted each page of each book you proffered for your reward. And some required 30 or 40 books.
It was one thing to paste stamps in those books.
It was quite another to wait while each book was examined page-by-page.

What a mess this morning has become! Thank you and fuck you to yesterday's Amazon delivery person who ignored the fact that one side of a carton coming to me was soaking wet and dripping liquid soap from its interior. No, the sonofabitch left it under the mailboxes, and this morning, when I went down for yesterday's mail and packages, there was a huge puddle of Palmolive dishwashing soap with two packages for me sitting in the middle of it.
-
Good morning!

So, I lost half a bottle of detergent, thanks to the ass who packaged my shipment. The other package was one of those plastic Amazon envelopes so I just washed it off. Then I called our building's maintenance and they are sending someone to mop the lobby.

Let Amazon know about this. They should replace the soap free of charge.

Here is a minute of Susan Strasberg and Michael Parks in Prime Suspect.

It's a beautiful day out of doors.
Am tempted to visit Third Generation and get some fried chicken for my lunch!!
-
That do-it-yourself lobby cleaning package really works!

Already done.

I hope the strike doesn't screw up the opening night!

On weekends the deliveries are made by US Postal workers.
Even worse.
-
I blame that partisan hack DeJoy.
-
I went to the post office (having skipped going yesterday) and got a bunch of mail which i have now sorted through.
I went to Third Generation and got fried chicken, mac 'n cheese, lima beans and black-eyed peas. Unsweet tea for beverage.
Looks really good. It's enough for lunch and supper, too.
-
That sounds good, DR Ron Pulliam.
-
Good morning, all.
-
'Tis been a very quiet morning here at the house, as I slept in late (but I was up till nearly 2:30 a.m., so still didn't get a lot of sleep) and we're all just sitting inside here today because of the abominable weather du jour.
Flood warnings abound everywhere, at least for the next few hours, and some 2/3 of New England - including the Lawn Guyland, vixmom - are under a tornado watch till 3 p.m. or so.
It should now be acknowledged that it's not even the abominable weather du jour. It's the abominable weather du summer 2023. Of course we are hardly alone. While the northeast soaks, much of the rest of the country burns up.
-
While I was out and about, the air felt really good. Warm, yes, but not hot or smothering.
It won't last, of course, but it's nice to know it's still possible.
-
Boy, did I luck out on choosing last night to attend the outdoor theeder.
PERFECT weather (allowing for the humidity, but I was comfortable). The slightly threatening evening rain didn't make an appearance, and the Addams cast and crew had a wonderful evening. Was the show perfect? No, but certain segments of it were highly enjoyable, and it was just so good to have an evening's reprieve outdoors from the awfulness of the summer so far.
-
My oh my, what a lot of WORDS there were in the notes this morning! :)
It's a great story, and a wonderful reunion will be taking place this week. Look forward to hearing about it.
-
Amazon owes DR Elmore but good.
Even if it wasn't their own driver being careless with the delivery, their packaging had to SUCK for that to happen.
-
DR Jrand, congrats on your hysterically funny evening :)
-
I'm slated to attend another outdoor theeder presentation next weekend, so good luck, weather-wise, to me and to them. Different venue, different town: a production of The Importance of Being Earnest which a friend is in. She was in Diana Canova's reading of Steel Magnolias, and is a delightful singer in addition to being a good actress.
-
Hmmm, we didn't receive any ballots in the mail yesterday.
-
From George:
Haven't there been several discovered identities of Jack the Ripper?
There have been. This one seemed plausible to me.
-
From DR John:
Had a nice dinner with a friend who lost her father to covid recently. He was almost 98.
That is sad, though it is nice to have a friend to talk about these difficult times.
-
DR John, when are you returning home?
-
The air quality here spiked yesterday to 208.
Not good, sigh.
-
It is eerie, wondering if it is safe to go outside.
Probably not. I find it difficult to stay inside on days like this.
-
I am glad, so far, we have not had dangerous air quality days this summer.
-
And unsettling after 3 years of the pandemic.
I found it unsettling before the pandemic, but I understand what you are saying.

It is now down to 132.

I had a former co-worker who loved to read true crime stories. She read that Patricia Cornwell book and believed absolutely everything in it. I never read it, so I can't say anything, but she just went on and on about how fascinating it all was. ::)

I'm up, I'm up - almost seven and a half hours of sleep. Not quite enough but better.

Re the Michael Parks and Susan Strasberg scene: That's the other "director" - all Michael's scenes had been shot when I came on and they couldn't afford to reshoot them, which was a shame because we could have had some fun with them. I remember just telling the editor, who wan't too good, BTW, to make that scene as short as possible - he did, and then I made it shorter. :)

Forgot to mention - really enjoyed the tales told in today's Notes.

I notice that BK is credited as the director on Prime Suspect (1989) on imdb.

I enjoyed reading the story leading up to, and about the Facebook surprise :)

Singdaw - I didn't use my name on the film - I used the name Mark Rutland - Guy Haines hadn't been born yet, but Mark And Guy share one thing in common. What is it?

Guess I'll order some food - don't want to go out today - too darn hot.

Interesting...

Ordered food - had a 40% off thing from Ubereats, so I was bold and ordered from Dino's Pizza - small pepperoni and their excellent salad. Oh boy!

DR singdaw I have happy with the 10 people we have.....bite your tongue.
-
Thanks DR JANE for a 4-time repeat this coming weekend.
-
Thanks to DR RODZINSKI for the link.
I just keep remembering that in spite of - or because of - the training of her parents, Susan Strasberg could NOT give a realistic portrayal of a struggling actress in STAGE STRUCK.

DR ELMORE as Joan would say: Clean up this MESS!

Everything has been posted to the website and links have been added to the Facebook pages.

Glad you had a good time last night DR CHAS SMITH - and hopefully you will have good weather next weekend for Theeder Al Fresco.

This anecdote is told about conductor Sir Thomas Beecham:
About to lead the dress rehearsal of Richard Strauss's Elektra, he faced his orchestra of over a hundred players and said, "Those singers up on the stage believe they are going to be heard. It up to you and me to make damned sure that they won't be."

I just ordered dinner to be delivered to a friend who is at home recovering from a recent major surgery. I hope the logistics work.

I’m feeling grumpy today. I am now at war with Cedars-Sinai, my medical group, due to their continued stupidity, rudeness, and lack of sensitivity to their patients. I sent my PCP a rather scathing email on Friday, because I was so fed up. He’s not the problem and everything in it we’ve talked about. I’m hoping he’ll forward it to the appropriate people, but have no confidence that anything will change.

Hi, Singdaw. Vibes to your friend.
-
If that doesn't tickle your fancy, HAPPY INTERNATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY!
That is exactly how I feel at the moment.

Yesterday I began sorting through the photos that belonged to my late downstairs neighbor. His partner was a professional photographer who covered many Hollywood events. I saw photos of Carol Channing, Bob Hope, Liza Minnelli, Susan Lucci, Betty White, and many who I didn’t recognize. There are many more boxes.
-
Hi, Jane.

Hi, DR Jeanne.

I have been in your situation and share your frustration.

It takes so much time and emotional energy to deal with, with no confidence that it will affect any change, either for yourself or for other patients.

There are some good doctors there and also a few good nurses, but so many who are not. There are problems that have been occurring as long as I’ve been with them and I see no signs of any improvement. Senior management seems to think everything is just dandy.

I took on the Hollywood memorabilia because the family was pretty burnt out at that point and I didn’t want to see it just trashed. They told me they’d leave a box of photos at my door. Instead I found four. And am told there are about seven more in the storage locker in the carport. There was a program from the Academy Awards sometime during the 1960s, I think, but of course I said, “You could probably sell that on eBay.” I doubt I’ll find it in any of the boxes. But, who knows? There may be something else. I think it’s worth going through, but it’ll take some time.

Or are medical personal burned out? I have Facebook friends in England and some of them have posted very upsetting stories of trying to get proper medical care.

Now I must do some writing - I just need to get past this little section I'm on, which is proving difficult to get right.

Just landed in San Antonio. Lots of taxiing.

Always tolerated.
Never loved.

Let’s exit it.

Now.

808 State
-
That’s a British electronica band.
-
Named for the Roland TR-808
-
A pioneering electronic drum machine.
-
The first hit single to use an 808 was Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing. So says wiki.
-
I did get 160 more pages of From Here to Eternity read. Less than 100 to go.
-
James Jones did call it From Hair to Maternity at one point.
-
Got over the little hump and wrote five good pages and introduced an important person in this story.

I did get 160 more pages of From Here to Eternity read. Less than 100 to go.
Biggest difference between the book and the movie?
-
Why does it seem like it's eleven o'clock already?
-
Besides the book being printed on paper and the movie being projected onto a screen.
-
I'll take a little break then try to write another five pages - I know exactly where I'm going from here to the next sequence, so that's good.
-
I dunno. Jane already went to sleep and it’s not yet 8.

Biggest difference between the book and the movie?
The frank discussion of homosexuality.
-
Maybe more realistic portrayals of characters. The prickly relationship between Prewitt (Montgomery Clift) and the prostitute Alma (Donna Reed).
-
The language. It’s the oldest book (1951) I think I’ve read that has a liberal use of f-bombs in conversation.
-
Good night, all.
-
F-bombs, eh?
I am fairly certain those flew around the entire movie production...in between takes, that is.
-
Glad to hear DR JOHN G is close to home.
-
I enjoyed reading FROM HERE TO ETERNITY.
Perhaps I need to read it again.
-
Vibes for DR JEANNE.
-
I have been watching a few productions of THE PLAY THAT GOES WroNG on Youtube.
And it makes me appreciate our cast and director even more.
-
Glad to hear that MR BK's writing is continuing apace.

I affixed this decal to my window. Now the world makes a lot more sense.

Congrats to Jrand on reaching his momentous millstone and posting plateau!

Dino's is the best pizza in LA. It's a long delivery drive, but for 40% off and the sale delivery charge of .49 made it worth it AND it's still nice and hot.
That's great, BK!

Jane Birkin has died. She was wonderful in Evil Under the Sun, holding her own against Diana Rigg, Maggie Smith and Peter Ustinov.
She was only 76. :(

Does your church have air conditioning?
Does your church have air conditioning?
Yes
Then I am surprised the numbers dropped so drastically. I guess people prefer to stay in their own cool homes.
We had torrential thunderstorms and flash flood warnings this morning
I would have stayed home.
Ditto! :-\
-
I just ordered dinner to be delivered to a friend who is at home recovering from a recent major surgery. I hope the logistics work.
I hope so, and recovery vibes for your friend.
~~~Ditto and Ditto!!~~~
Landed in Houston. Thanks for the travel vibes
Very good news!
PAGE NINE DANCE!!
And speaking of food, what do you think about this?
I would eat it!
I'm not a fan of pulled pork, so that wouldn't appeal to me...but IKEA had a Swedish meatball cup that was pretty much the same thing. I might try that, if I go back.
If that doesn't tickle your fancy, HAPPY INTERNATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY!
I love it!! :D
I’m feeling grumpy today. I am now at war with Cedars-Sinai, my medical group, due to their continued stupidity, rudeness, and lack of sensitivity to their patients. I sent my PCP a rather scathing email on Friday, because I was so fed up. He’s not the problem and everything in it we’ve talked about. I’m hoping he’ll forward it to the appropriate people, but have no confidence that anything will change.
That's terrible, Jeanne! >:(
~~~Medical Vibes of All Kinds for Jeanne!!~~~

I entered ten puns into a pun contest, hoping at least one of them would win.
No pun in ten did.

Cute!

I enjoyed reading FROM HERE TO ETERNITY.
Perhaps I need to read it again.
I still have it on my Kindle, and just finished a book.
-
I've never read it, and have wanted to, so I guess now's as good a time as any!
-
Congrats to Jrand on his new large posting total.
-
Must write some damn notes.
-
Just spent an hour having to revise stuff because some details were wrong, but it's all good now.
-
I've just been watching some YouTube videos of India's Chandrayaan3 launch (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=chandrayaan3).
-
Instead of posting?
-
New notes re up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They're short - on purpose, as the previous day's notes were reallllly long.
-
They shall be read.
