Well, you've read the notes, the notes said it was Friday, and now it is time for you to post until the Friday cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AMELiORATE!
-
Notes futzed. Finessed.

And the word of the day is: AMELiORATE!
This was also the word of the day on March 21, 2017 (http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?topic=4983.msg1123511#msg1123511). Nothing wrong with that. :)

Well, it looks like the honeymoon is over. ::)
Over just a few months, ChatGPT went from correctly answering a simple math problem 98% of the time to just 2%, study finds (https://fortune.com/2023/07/19/chatgpt-accuracy-stanford-study/amp/)
The chatbot gave wildly different answers to the same math problem, with one version of ChatGPT even refusing to show how it came to its conclusion.

Good morning, friends.
-
I call my horse "Mayo."
-
And sometimes, Mayo neighs.
-
Perhaps it is too early for something of that nature.
-
But nature abhors a vacuum.
-
And the word of the day is: AMELiORATE!
Ordinary daughters ameliorate their lot.
-
Or so Sondheim says.
-
Last night, I finally finished Preview Harvey. I loved it.
-
Now, to craft and post a review.
-
Perhaps it will be posted by the time BK's next is published.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept in this morning. And I am very happy that I did.
-
Today I will begin ballet No. 32.
-
I have nothing else to report at the moment. I shall return later.

Good morning, all.

I can't listen to this. It breaks my heart and I start weeping and mourning her. I never knew she performed this and it tears me to pieces:

Good morning, all.
-
A rainy, stormy Friday. But I need to spend time on indoors stuff anyway. It’s supposed to turn nice for a while starting this evening or tomorrow.
-
I pulled another late nighter puttering around, and am paying for it right now. Got to avoid doing this. If I had something I needed to go out and do, I’d be hurting.
-
More coffee!
-
I will steel myself and follow these Rebecca Luker links now.
-
Nice links with the same results here in these parts.

Surviving the storms vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.

RIP Tony Bennett
I just saw that. My dad was a huge Tony Bennett fan, and actually got to see him perform live here in Olympia.

Break Legs, Jrand!
-
I think I'm going to miss Tony Bennett being alive in the world. So many things I was "used to" have gone, and his continued presence was reassuring.
Truth be told, I am more of a Jeannette than a Tony, but as many of you know, that means i prefer the song "San Francisco" as sung by Jeannette MacDonald in the film of the same name to Bennett's "I Left My Heart in San Francisco".
I don't hate Bennett's song at all, but prefer the more upbeat song to the romantic ballad.

Better break just one leg, Jack. You need to be able to move around afterward. And don't throw a hat on any beds.

We had a huge storm last night. Pictures on FB show some damage around my small town, including a tree in front of the parsonage of the Johnston First Baptist Church, The tree broke in half...for the second time in the last five years due to high winds.
Given that, I would put ties on such a tree until it was strong enough to withstand the occasional wretched storm.
But, it's not my tree. I can mourn its loss from a distance.

Weddings are really out of control, IMO. The so-called "traditional" touches that folks pay major bucks for really aren't all that traditional.
Same for funerals, sorry to say.
-
;)
LOL!
-
I have absolutely no idea how we managed to get to another Friday so quickly.
And I have zilch motivation to do anything to compensate for the nada I accomplished most of the week.
Another week bites the dust.
-
Folks on FB are all atwitter and atweet about "Oppenheimer". Some are moaning over its announced length, others are complaining that they don't know what people mean when they say the movie is very long.
To me, it means that it's three hours, as advertised, but that it is intense and can tax a person intellectually, emotionally and physiologically. That tells me there is a lot of content and much of it is disturbing. That can take a lot out of a person.
"Schindler's List" is such a movie, but I would not be the person I am today had I never seen it. Movies change me, some in minor ways, but others in major ways.
Apparently, "Oppenheimer" will be an IMAX experience where such showings are available.
-
I guess it's time to wrap up my random thoughts.
-
I hadn't planned on saying more than good morning and giving you a weather update for Johnston (in case you would be driving through today).
-
It's going to be sunny with highs in the low 90s.
-
We expect some winds of about 17 mph.

There’s a quip in Paul Rudnick’s new book about weddings and funerals being the same, except one has bridesmaids and the other pallbearers.

Who here uses a B&W laser printer at home?
I've got a Brother that's been a great workhorse for several years, and it's time for a new toner cartridge. I've always bought their own brand to minimize any risk of the thing failing. This time I'm looking at the prices, and mine is still hanging in there at nearly $60 -- which is damned pricey in comparison with "compatibles" at half that, or even two-packs that are half that.
Any personal recommendations one way or the other?

That scene of that first test in New Mexico is iconic and keeps getting depicted in film, television, and even in opera.

It was certainly consequential, at any rate.

Don't pal around with pallbearers.

DR George - I don't think any DR should be held accountable for posting any amount at any particular time of day. Just so you know.
-
Go tell Aunt Rhody.
-
That's what I always say.
-
I wonder if Aunt Rhody ever lived in Rhode Island.
-
Or if Aunt Rhody was ever a roady.
-
Or a toady.
-
What if a toady drank a hot toddy?

OK, this is just getting silly.

I concur
-
Back in 1991 or thereabouts, i had been laid off ( along with another 1800 people) from my job in aerospace
-
I was entitled to government paid career retraining because of the layoffs due to congressional cancellation of various contracts
-
While I was waiting for the classes to begin i passed some time volunteering as a receptionist and gofer at our lixal PBS station.
-
Vixdad and I also ended up being part of the on air telephone banks that were so common then.
-
During one of the begathons... uh fund drives, one of the premiums were two tickets to see Tony Bennett in concert in a smallish local venue.
-
After the drive was over I was gifted with two pairs of tickets, one set i gave to my folks and the second set for vixdad and i
-
The night of the performance, about 20 minutes before we had go leave for the show Vixdad git a call from.his job
-
At the time he was the "on call " person for computer issues
-
He told me the problem.woukd take some time to resolve and i shoukd go without him
-
I was going to go on ky own when it occurred to me that the older woman i was then driving to church on Sundays might enjoy the show
-
I called her "Hazel, do you like Tony Bennett?"
-
"Yes I love him!"
-
"Would you like to see him.perform.live?"
-
"When?"
-
"Now, I'll pick you up in 10 minutes"
-
"I'll be ready!"
-
Sure enough, Hazel was dressed in nylons, heels and fanct dress, make up and hair done and standing on her front steps when I rolled up 10 minutes later.
-
She was thrilled when she discovered we were sitting on the fourth row aisle
-
Tony Bennett was phenomenol that night.
-
But I still don't know whether I got more enjoyment that night from watching Tony or Hazel.
-
From Singdaw:
Had a very nice video chat tonight with a good high school friend that I hadn't caught up with in ages.
That's nice. I could do with a bit of catching up with old friends.

Congrats on being sold out. Have a great audience and last evening.

I find all the pre-parties, along with the expense involved of traveling to various locations, just crazy.

A sweet story.

Keith has purchased canisters with the non-manufacturer's ink. He said they are a real pain to get them to work properly.

Thank you, DR JANE & DR JOHN G.
I am hoping all the gags land tonight.....I am trying some new line readings - of course I will inform the director and the folks onstage with me at the time.

What classic crooners are still with us?
Steve Lawrence and the ageless Jack Jones…

Bobby Vinton and Vic Dana..

Seth MacFarlane and Michael Buble are in that mode but not, in my opinion, of the classic calibre.

Keith has purchased canisters with the non-manufacturer's ink. He said they are a real pain to get them to work properly.
Canisters would be for inkjets, right? I know those are risky. This is a full-size toner cartridge for a laser printer. The same risks might apply, but I don't know.
-
We have an inkjet printer.

None of those four have any live shows announced in 2023 :(

Another day is winding down.
I managed to go to the post office and had a passel of parcels to wrestle with. Holiday gifts for cousins bought from QVC during "Christmas in July" sale.
Believe it or not, I only just got my talking toothbrush bought on the first day of the Amazon deals day July 11.
It's in a box and hasn't uttered a word. But, then, it doesn't yet know me. Will keep you all posted once I figure it all out.
-
The Whale House, I mean.
I was hoping it was the house of former director James Whale (of whom "Gods and Monsters" was made).
Alas...Jonah must have built this one.

That was far better than having to say, "Alas! Ear wax!"

It is very hot outside.

Shirley Bassey was beautiful and amazing.

I was never a fan of What Now My Love until she sang it.

I was moved to tears.

I audience also loved her and kept screaming for encores.

You may (or may not) remember that ballet No. 30 was driving me crazy and I dumped two attempts before I settled on the third attempt. I think I posted that I suspected it would be a number I would be asked to redo. Well, Doug, the gentleman who hired me and who is also copying the scores just sent me this:
Wow, Larry! I just started No. 30. It sounds amazing!
I sleep easier now!

Gloria Grahame is excellent in Chilly Scenes. Disturbing.
Yes, Kenneth McMillan too!
-
Continued writing vibes for MR BK.
-
I am heading for the last round up.....at least for today.
-
Just thought of an old-school crooner who is still touring. My mom’s favorite, Johnny Mathis.
-
Finished with my viewing.

I did see him last year. He still has it.

Always like John Heard.
Yeah he’s great in those Joan Micklin Silver films. He had some demons and his career never seemed to fully blossom. Between the Lines is on YouTube for free.
-
Congrats, JRand! And how is the whole water scene playing out in reality?
-
Just watched the original ending of Chilly Scenes of Winter when it was called Head Over Heels. It was happier, but not successful. Bergman could have pulled it off. But I am glad Silver was able to do something better, truer to the character, even if the original ending is closer to the book.

Good night, all.
-
Eight pages and I think that's fine for today.
-
Here we go again.

Let me just say that George WILL be held accountable, oh, yes, he will be held accountable.

We shall see.

Oh yes, we shall see.

I just got home from playing cards at my mom's.

I lost all three games. ::)

My dad LOVED it, of course. He said he never thought that he'd ever get a chance to see Tony Bennett perform live.
A very special family event.
Yup. And the we were able to get tickets for my dad's other bucket-list performer, Dave Brubeck. Another fantastic show!
I used to live about 10 miles from Dave Brubeck. Never met him. But did hear him perform. Excellent concert.
Very cool!

I used to live about 10 miles from Dave Brubeck.
I did, too! In Connecticut. The DH used to go over and see him at his home sometimes.
That's great!

That's wonderful, Larry!

Wow!

Everyone should go read Singdaw's wonderful review of Preview Harvey!
