Well, you've read the noes, the notes were modern, jazzy, and had a quartet, and now it is time for you to post until the modern, jazzy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ILLUSTRIOUS!
-
Topic of the Day (in alphabetical order):
Mel Gibson:
Mad Max
Pocahontas
Road Warrior (and I think I saw Beyond Thunderdome, but I don't remember)
Signs
Kurt Russell:
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Overboard
Swing Shift
The Thing
-
Ended up writing another three full pages, for eleven total.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept quite well, and then Annabelle crawled in bed with me around 4:30 or so. We cuddled, she purred like mad, and I nodded, not really sleeping, but I did have a dream, something about going to the bank and accidentally tossing the check I was going to deposit into the trash. Then, around 5:30, Thatch joined us, and we cuddled until 6:15, when I decided that sharing a bed with two warm cats on a warm day was too much heat and decided it was time to get up.
-
DR Jrand72, I think your show is going out on a high note. I'm really happy for you and your colleagues.
-
Yesterday, my right leg was quite recalcitrant about supporting me or moving willingly. As a consequence, it became a delivery day: first the corner bodega delivered a few necessary groceries. then the pharmacy delivered my monthly medications, and around noon, Joshie delivered my new computer, which he picked it up at the Apple Store at Lincoln Center. Tomorrow he leaves for a week in Los Angeles for the closing of Into the Woods and some other research. I may not have a new working computer until he returns, but I may see if our fred Jason can help me with it.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I almost typed Goof morning.
-
Which would also be altogether appropriate.

Be a sunflower in s field of wildflowers.

I didn't know previously about the Modern Jazz Quartet, but now I shall endeavor to find out.
-
The Swingle Singers I know about.
-
Put 'em together and what have you got?
-
Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo!
-
Don't take constructive criticism from people who haven't constructed anything.
-
So glad you are ending your run on a high note, DR Jrand72.
-
Wish I could see the antics.

What do you get when you cross a policeman with a skunk?

Law and odour.

Weren't we talking about umber the other day?
-
If not, I take umbrage.
-
In any case, here's raw umber versus burnt umber.
-
Umber is from hunger.
-
I think I saw that on a t-shirt once.

Happy Saturday, everyone!

I never has seen snow Signs, but a lot of folks here seem to think highly of it.
You should see it. It's M. Night Shyamalan.
I think more highly of it than most folks I have seen comment upon it.
The ensemble work is remarkable. Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix and the two children - Rory Culkin and Abigail Breslin -- are absolutely wonderful.
The score by James Newton Howard is terrific.
-
What are your favorite hobbies?
Well, I enjoy sleeping.
-
Thanks, DR Ron Pulliam. I have added it to my watch list.
-
It's a sign.

Not a sine.

If Michael J. Fox's last name started with a Q, his initials would be MJQ, too.
And if your first name started with M, you had a middle name that started with J. and your last name started with Q, then YOU would be MJQ, as well!

Not a sinus.

Not a sine.
And is there a co-sine?

And if your first name started with M, you had a middle name that started with J. and your last name started with Q, then YOU would be MJQ, as well!

Funny how that works.
-
I like Saturday mornings.
-
So many possibilities.
-
I'll leave you all to the ministrations of DR singdaw.
I have so much time, and so very little to do.
No! Wait!
Reverse that!

The possibility of page three, for example.
-
THREE.
-
Now wut?
-
Page four, I suppose.
-
But first, breakfast.
-
Good morning, all.

Our weather has finally settled down to a nice, normal, comfortable summer … just in time for the last week of July.
-
It does look like we’ll be back in hot and humid territory come midweek and next weekend. So this must be enjoyed while it’s here.
Tonight is the outdoor performance of The Importance of Being Earnest I’m attending. At least we’ll be comfortable.
-
Enjoy the show DR CHAS SMITH!
Bunburry.
-
thanks to all! yes it has been a great ride and I will miss performing this particular show.
BUT tonight is the last time I have to stand on the edge of that ^*(Ying platform.
And of course then we have strike & clean up - COMMUNITY theeder being what it is. I'm sure some folks will leave early, they always do.
-
Auditions for Morning's @ Seven tomorrow at 3 p.m. - and I am thinking I will be home in time to go see Oppenheimer at my local cinema. It starts at 6:50 p.m.

I don't think DR RON PULLIAM gave us his final word on TAR!
I am still interested in hearing it.
SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT
I still think the ending is one of the greatest comeuppances for a pretentious blowhard in the history of cinema and it is glorious.

Saturday morning greetings! I've been E & T for a couple of days, spending time with friends 2 evenings in a row.
-
On Thursday we had our book group meeting at the out of town home (Dayton 'burbs) of our leader, who used to live in my neighborhood. Since I'd been to Sharon's before and knew the way I drove 3 of my friends and we had a delightful evening.
-
Late yesterday afternoon, a DAR friend came here and we drove together to Germantown to the home of another DAR friend. The 3 of us worked on updating the directory for our chapter, then treated ourselves to a lovely dinner at the Florentine Inn, which is within walking distance of Nancy's house.

I’m not caught up, it’s Vixdad’s birthday weekend , today being his actual birthday
-
We’ve just had a nice long video chat with the Vixter and Vixhubby
-
Meanwhile, there's an email thread going in which several of us girls are trying to cook up an outing to see "Barbie" next week. We're going to have a "show and tell" of the dolls we still have in our possession.
-
We’ll be heading out to eat soon

From Rodzinski:
Just thought of an old-school crooner who is still touring. My mom’s favorite, Johnny Mathis
I would like to have seen him, I doubt it will happen now. I am glad he is still touring.

From John:
I did see him last year. He still has it.

Air Show starting soon over the bay; we can watch from our house. Not really an air show person but I barely have to move to see this one.

Listening to The Chairmen of the Board’s debut lp on Invictus Records from 1970.
Give Me Just A Little More Time was the big hit on here and their biggest hit by far.

Meanwhile, there's an email thread going in which several of us girls are trying to cook up an outing to see "Barbie" next week. We're going to have a "show and tell" of the dolls we still have in our possession.
That sounds like a fun way to see Barbie. I never had a Barbie doll and I absolutely did not want one. I had plenty of other dolls I played with, and still have a doll collection.

When we lived in Tiburon the Blue Angels would practice over our house. That was more fun for us than the time we walked into town to see part of the show.

MR BK must be writing more today.....or eating carbonara.
My spellcheck does not like that word no matter what vowels I put where.

Air show!

I had that 45 rpm record by the Chairmen of the Board - but I did not invest in the LP.

Happy birthday, Vixdad!

Congratulations, Elmore, on your new plateau.
I was quite unaware of it!

Spell check on carbonara is interesting - if you put a pasta name before it, then there's no problem
-
Zoom pushed to three, so I went and got Taco Bell and ate that. Now, I'll try to write a few pages before Zoom, then I'll go back and futz and finesse, unless I decided to to all that tomorrow before sending pages. If so, I'll try to do seven to ten pages today and I'm in a somewhat easy section right now.

That's great!
-
I am almost tempted to get four cats again just so I can purchase the shirt ;)
-
At the time Keith bought me a couple of nice shirts. One said "You can never have too many cats". The artwork was fun, much nicer than I have seen since that shirt was discontinued.
-
I like this shirt.

Alas, that is also no longer true.
-
I do like shirts with books and cats.
-
Currently I only have a sweatshirt with books and a cat.
-
I also have a sweatshirt with books and a floppy eared bunny.

This one is cute though I like the other two better.

Instead I will go read a chapter in my book.

Zoom done. Productive. And I've written almost four new pages. Now a break, then three or four more later.
-
I finished No. 32 after I gave the kitties their treat. Now I can chill out with Midsomer Murders.
-
Except for an afternoon walk I have been doing laundry all day.
-
I am finally done.
-
Yay.
-
I don't mind doing laundry, just didn't realize how much there was today.
-
I thought I only had the sheets and a couple of extra loads to do.
-
No ironing needed :)
-
I always liked to iron until I hurt my shoulder.
-
Ten pages, so I think that'll be it for today.

I like this one!

DR Jane has reminded me that I have a ton of laundry to do, too.

And I made no progress on it at all today.

I did watch Signs, which I enjoyed, and the recent remake of The Boys in the Band, and an episode of the new season of Father Brown.

Long night of dancing. In this heat, it’s just exhausting.
-
Starting The Man Who Would Be King.
-
I haven’t seen it in ages. Connery and Caine are great. Christopher Plummer seems to be enjoying every second, hiding behind a strange mustache.
-
Finished a wonderful movie and have started another - all three hours and nine minutes of it.

Enough movie for the evening.

Vixdad enjoyed his birthday

Thanks everyone. The Play That Goes Wrong est mort.
We had a major gaffe that was hard to recover from.....one actor hits the post and the second floor drops down.
Tonight said actor was messing around and just moved the post and it stayed up under the platform....which of course didn't fall the first few feet.
The illusion was ruined and it really affected the audience response to the rest of the second act.....but the actor didn't seemed concerned....just went on about his merry way the rest of the night wanting compliments for his work.
-
Ah well.....eventually he knocked it down....but there you are.
-
Set is struck and platform/apparatus is stored away until the Ohio college that bought it from us will pick it up sometime in August.
-
Audience was fine.....but I think last night was our best audience who got our best show.
-
Two of my sisters and two of my nieces came, so that was fun.....I think there will probably be photos on BookFace.
-
10 pages for MR BK!
-
Congrats to DR ELMORE on his devil's number millstone.

Now I need to get some sleep to be ready for auditions for Morning's At Seven which for some reason will happen in the Afternoon At Three.

Oh, look! It's Page Nine!
-
Today, I went to Meconi's Italian Subs (https://www.meconissubs.com/) for dinner.
-
I had my usual half Combo - Cosmo style (which just means it's toasted).
-
I also read a couple of sections of the short story that I'm reading.
-
It's called Auberon, and it's from The Expanse universe of books and stories.
-
Right now, I'm 75% of the way through (according to my Kindle), so there's not much more to it.
-
It's set on a small planet (or is it the moon of a planet?) that has a 12-hour day, and the humans have to adjust to two sunrises and sunsets for every actual "day" that happens on Earth.
-
The story is a one-off, and the characters aren't in any of the full-length books (that I remember), but it has background information that's interesting to the whole story.
-
There are nine full-length books, and several short stories.
-
Gratuitous Post #250!!
-
One of the stories could originally only be gotten from a game of The Expanse (which is no longer available), but they've finally published all the short stories (except one, for some reason ::) ), in Memory's Legion: The Complete Expanse Story Collection (https://www.amazon.com/Memorys-Legion-Complete-Expanse-Collection/dp/0316669172/).
-
One of the 79% 5-star reviews said, "The short stories help understand some of the characters or the meaning behind the novels."
-
I have the short story collection, and Auberon is in it, but I'm actually reading it from its own short story library download.
-
I forgot that I had the collection. ;)
-
Glad I reminded myself of it. :)
-
I do need to find out what the one missing story is...or if I misremembered that bit of info.
-
Just starting the notes.
-
I also think I that I'd read that they originally wanted to write 12 books for the main novels, but decided to just write nine.
-
Either way, they're really good, and so is the TV show.
-
Although there are six seasons of the TV show, I've only seen the first.
-
I have the first four seasons on Blu-ray, but it looks like seasons 5 and 6 are only available in a 6-season pack, AND seasons 5 and 6 are only on DVD, NOT Blu-ray!
-
WTF?? :o
-
Amazon Prime has the series, so I could watch it that way, too, but why only make the last two seasons only on DVD?
-
I wonder if that's because Amazon produced the last two seasons and they want to promote their Amazon Prime streaming?
-
Just a thought. ::)
-
I'm also wondering if seasons 5 and 6 might be bootleg because people are complaining (even from England) that season 5 has subtitles burned into the video and can't be turned off. :P
-
Hopefully, someone at Amazon will come to their senses and do proper Blu-ray releases of seasons 5 and 6...hopefully.
-
:D
-
And now, since we're so close, let's hie ourselves to the...
