Well, you've read the notes, the notes were futzed and finessed, and now it is time for you to post until the futzed and finessed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EVINCE!

Topic of the Day: Everything I learned about the Kennedy assassination I learned from the musical Assassins. ::)

Good morning, friends.

Good morning, all!
-
It's been a frustrating morning, so I do hope the day progresses better from this point.
-
I have a leak in my bathroom sink. I called the building maintenance yesterday, so I wonder if it will be repaired today.
-
DR vixmom, I'm happy you had a good time yesterday. That chicken pot pie looks great.

I'm very sleepy, so I am going back to bed for a bit.

I saw a recipe for "pizza casserole," and I think I'd like to try that.

DR Laura has not chimed in on what the temp is doing in her neck of the woods.
Here, it is forecast to be our hottest week of the summer; around 100.
Not up to DR John G.'s levels, but unusual for here.
-
I am off to push around a post.
-
Or knock it over.

I haven't decided yet.

But I will seek kudos for my efforts, regardless.

I have a question, and I hope this isn't too much of a spoiler:
Are there documented cases of stage actors who have Tourette's who don't have episodes when they are on stage?
Just curious.

Good morning, all.

I have a question, and I hope this isn't too much of a spoiler:
Are there documented cases of stage actors who have Tourette's who don't have episodes when they are on stage?
Just curious.
My guess is there could very well be, since there are documented cases in other professions, two of which I know to be flying an airplane and performing surgery.
-
We’re in for - you guessed it! - a hot week. :)
I think it’s high 80s for a couple of days, then mid 90s for a few.
-
I need to continue getting some outdoors work done, but it will have to be limited to the cooler morning hours.
-
I also plan on taking in a movie or two or three. I have an AMC gift card that needs to be used soon (I plan on seeing Oppenheimer, for one thing), and tomorrow evening I’ll be at the Bedford Playhouse watching From Russia With Love.
-
I last saw the Bond movies in - approximately - 2010 when I enjoyed a personal marathon of reading every one of the Ian Fleming stories and then watching all of the films. That was highly enjoyable and is something I want to do again sometime.
-
Oddly, for as much as I enjoy the franchise, I still have yet to see the latest film of a couple of years ago. I believe this calls for some ketchup.
-
Congrats to DR VIXMOM on the news!
-
Not the brake news - the OTHER news.
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE that the day gets better.
-
It is a lawn mowing day - and a second set of auditions for tonight.
We shall see what happens with both.
-
Good Monday, gentle folk!
It's another overcast morning here in Johnston SC. It's 76 degrees of temperature.
Our AQI is 36. Dr singdaw, you and Jayson should reconsider where you live.
I am absolutely gobsmacked that today is the 24th of July.
-
Congrats to MR BK on his futzing and finessing skills.
-
I am planning to see OPPENHEIMER tomorrow!
-
"Morning Joe" has just ended. Neither Joe nor Mika were present today. Jonathan Lemire presided.
Truth: I am so sick of the name Trump, and so sick of polls about upcoming primaries, etc.
I cannot recall any time in my life beyond the past ten years, when the news was dominated by political nonsense such as we currently hear. Primaries are one year away. No one knows what will be "hot" a year from now. One thing is sure: Trump will also be much older and less desirable to be a presidential contender.... if he is still alive then. Have never seen any candidate/potential candidate who looks so bad/unhealthy.
-
That's it.
That's all I have to say.
I shan't blather on.

In 1970, James Kirkwood (of A Chorus Line and P.S. Your Cat is Dead) published American Grotesque: An Account of the Clay Shaw-Jim Garrison-Kennedy Assassination Trial in New Orleans. It was clearly a case of Garrison - a demented homophobe, rumored pedophile/closeted gay man, and conspiracy theorist - prosecuting a wealthy gay man, Clay Shaw, for being a major conspirator in the plot to murder JFK. I haven't read the book since a 1980s Kirkwood obsession, but it's my memory that Shaw was found innocent but the trial destroyed his life.
Oliver Stone made Jim Garrison the hero if his film. I will never forgive him for that.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep and probably would have been more had some guy not rung the doorbell at 8:45 telling me he was here to check the air conditioning. I said that no one had informed me of this, that I was a renter and that there was nothing wrong with the air conditioning. He said he'd call John, the guy who booked it - I told him I didn't know anyone by that name. He said he'd call and then tell me what's what and I shut the door. He never came back, but his truck is still out there, which means he had the wrong house.
-
I went back to bed to no avail.
-
I have to read up on Jim Garrison. I believe the film is based on two books, one of which was probably by Garrison. The Kirkwood book sounds interesting so I may get that.
-
I've always been open to the axe falling wherever it should in the JFK assassination, because even from the tender age of fourteen or whatever I was then, I could never understand why considering the possibility of a conspiracy was any more heinous than that of a lone nut pulling it off.
Back in the early 70s I got into it for a bit, and I read Mark Lane's books and one called Six Seconds in Dallas -- both of which seemed to make the most sense as far as analyzing the evidence and pointing to what should be investigated. I also read the long Playboy interview with Jim Garrison, which I found fascinating but I was never able to fully connect the dots. I liked the JFK movie, but I didn't understand why Stone became so obsessed with Garrison's obsession...as opposed to any other. I suspect DR Elmore's take is pretty right on.
Stone's kind of a nut, himself, of course, but I do like some of the movies. He did aim wrong in this one, I think, even if it's a good film. I liked Nixon more, but everything surrounding Nixon is so well documented that he could hardly go wrong. (Haven't seen it in years, so maybe he did go wrong in that one, too, and I'm totally forgetting.)
Oh--another mid-70s influence on me was Mort Sahl's publicizing the Zapruder film and all the questions surrounding that.
-
I was a babe in arms, a mere 14 months, when Kennedy was assassinated. It hasn’t fascinated me much because of that. I like facts, and so, the endless conjecture has left me cold.

There’s so much noise in the JFK rabbit hole that it’s difficult to keep one’s head straight when one goes down, but I do know Stone took way too many liberties including giving comfort to Garrison’s character assassination of Shaw, as astutely noted by Elmore.
Otherwise, I tend to go with the lone gunman explanation despite there being plenty of weird stuff in the aftermath, and probably plenty that will embarrass the US govt. when/if it’s ever fully revealed.

Forgot to post this yesterday -- it's the stage for the outdoor production of The Importance of Being Earnest by the local Valley Shakespeare Festival based in Shelton, CT. This weekend's performances were on this little town square-like stage at a rather interesting place called Quarry Walk in Oxford, CT, which seems to be something of a planned community consisting of a shopping center that incorporates nice rental apartments and a healthcare facility. Obviously it's aimed to benefit those of a certain age, but I believe there are no restrictions. The stores and restaurants are in a picturesque village style, it's nicely laid out, and the little green with this stage was comfortable and more than adequate for a play of this nature. Very simple, no? Like I said, the actors were impeccable, it's all Equity, and the performance was as elegant and delightful as anything you could ask for.
-
One of the actresses who auditioned yesterday is someone I have worked with before.
Every time I have given her a direction she always objects with "but" and goes on blathering about her own thoughts....ALWAYS.
-
I did the auditions a bit differently from I have before. Instead of having folks who were auditioning for the same character read the same scene.....
I had the play scenes chosen from the start of the play to the end....
Then I assigned parts in different scenes and gave the groups a few minutes together to read the scenes [they had almost all been posted on the internet] and then we did the scenes in order.
After they did it the first time, I gave each of them a BIT of direction and a few minutes and then we did the same scene again with them.
-
The Stats
Air quality: Around 40, depending on which site you look at.
Gasoline: It had been hovering between $3.32 and $3.37 over the past week or two, and suddenly today it's $3.42.
-
The Actress listened and said "But....." so I do not think she will be cast in this play.

GUESS THE SECRET WORD!! :D
Too bad there wasn't a duck that could drop down at that moment.
-
The last scene in the play has ALL of the characters in it.....and we luckily had exactly the right number of folks.....so I ended with that....once....a bit of talking....and then again.
It was a lot of fun for everyone, I think....so we shall see what happens tonight. Probably won't have as many folks, so maybe some from yesterday will come back.
Probably You Know Who.

That's a nice stage set up DR CHAS SMITH.

Just read a fascinating article about a process called "white fonting."
Job seekers place key words from a job posting into their resume, but make the font white, so it appears normal to a human reviewer, but theoretically AI programs read the white font and so mark the resume as a match in their initial screening and recommend the resume for advancement in the process.

Play has been cast - but lady was not included.
After the casting decisions were made.....she walked in - because she had been rehearsing the the Covered Bridge Singers, women's group of songtresses whose job it is to sing flat, scoop most of the notes, and gossip about members who are not there.
I let her know I was unable to cast her, and she was surprisingly OKAY with it....at least to the front of my face.

The attorney who wanted a part and auditioned Sunday returned today and told me that he wanted to read two extra pages that were not part of the audition scenes.....so he did.
I hope he enjoyed it - he won't be saying those lines to a paying audience.

Finally a nice young man came out of the office and took my money.
All of the floors had already been mopped. It was about 9:35 p.m. so my guess is that they close at 10 p.m.
-
When I got home there was a small bag of two garden fresh pickle cucumbers from my nephew and his wife.
They will be very good tomorrow!
-
I like relatives with gardens.
-
Off to write.
-
Starting Book Club: Next Chapter.
-
Not a good script, but I like spending time with Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen and especially Candice Bergin.
-
Ice cream over shave ice
Thought that was broccoli under there!
-
Play has been cast - but lady was not included.
“But…”

Ice cream over shave ice
Thought that was broccoli under there!
To each his own.
-
Vibes for Jane.
-
Gee, this movie is lousy. And I can’t stop smiling.

My 10 cents about the Kennedy assassination.
I was in the 10th grade when this happened.
I was watching TV when Oswald was being moved from the Dallas jail and Jack Ruby shot him.
I do believe Oswald was a "patsy".
The Warren Commission report was unbelievable particularly because of the "magic bullet" theory.
When Anita Hill was being questioned, many years later, about her claims against Clarence Hill, Senator Arlin Specter asked her if she expected any one of them to believe her claims about Hill's behavior.
I wanted her to say: "Given your co-authorship of the magic bullet theory, Senator, you should have no problem believing this...except that it's truth."
Specter was a Democratic Senator from Pennsylvania...and the only Democrat I have truly despised because of both those events.
-
I’ve seen enough scientific support for the single bullet to make it more than plausible to me. Stone doesn’t even bother getting Connolly’s physical position in front of JFK correct, so the movie just adds to the confusion in furthering Stone’s narrative.
-
Too antsy to watch anything. Nine pages and will definitely do one more at some point before bed.

Had an upsetting conversation today, but I''ll wash it down the drain later and that will be that. It was just the way something was presented to me - disrespectfully - and I don't care for that sort of thing. Some things just boggle the old mind and that's all I'll say about that.
-
It’s over. Thank goodness. Hope there’s a sequel. And it’s better.

Sorry to read that. No one should face that.
-
Good night, all.
-
Page nine my ASS.
-
Had Subway for food earlier.
-
Then an hour ago I ordered three tiny side dishes from California Chicken Cafe - my chicken pasta salad, rice with veggies, and their roasted potatoes.
-
I began with the potatoes and they were pretty damn great.
-
One bite of the rice and veggies almost made me vomit on the ground. It not normal rice - maybe basmati rice - anyway, I threw it out.
-
Now I'm having the chicken pasta salad.
-
Found a new composer on the Tube of You and am listening to the first of his three symphonies. Lee Actor is his name - he's a modern composer but not a noisy one.
-
And?
-
What?
-
Page ten my ASS.
-
Nice to make page 10.
-
Ten is zen, baby.
-
I require a certain peaceful atmosphere to read any book of consequence, and I don’t get enough of that with the youngsters about, but we’ll be taking an Alaskan cruise in August and I’ll have limited phone access, so it will be perfect to focus on Harvey reading.

Agreed! What's wrong with some people? :-\

Last night, I started to post the lyrics to "A Little Priest" (a la Singdaw ;) ), but only got through the intro...so, let's continue!
-
TODD:
For what's the sound of the world out there?
LOVETT:
What, Mr. Todd?
What, Mr. Todd?
What is that sound?
-
TODD:
Those crunching noises pervading the air!
LOVETT:
Yes, Mr. Todd!
Yes, Mr. Todd!
Yes, all around!
-
TODD:
It's man devouring man, my dear!
BOTH:
And [LOVETT: Then] who are we to deny it in here?
-
TODD: (spoken) These are desperate times,
Mrs. Lovett, and desperate measures are called for!
LOVETT: Here we are, now! Hot out of the oven!
TODD: What is that?
-
LOVETT:
It's priest. Have a little priest.
TODD:
Is it really good?
LOVETT:
Sir, it's too good, at least!
Then again, they don't commit sins of the flesh,
So it's pretty fresh.
-
TODD:
Awful lot of fat.
LOVETT:
Only where it sat.
TODD:
Haven't you got poet, or something like that?
-
LOVETT:
No, y'see, the trouble with poet is
'Ow do you know it's deceased?
Try the priest!
TODD: (spoken) Heavenly!
Not as hearty as bishop, perhaps,
But then again, not as bland as curate, either!
LOVETT:
And good for business, too -- always leaves you wantin' more!
Trouble is, we only get it on Sundays!
-
LOVETT:
Lawyer's rather nice.
TODD:
If it's for a price.
LOVETT:
Order something else, though, to follow,
Since no one should swallow it twice!
-
TODD:
Anything that's lean.
LOVETT:
Well, then, if you're British and loyal,
You might enjoy Royal Marine!
Anyway, it's clean.
Though of course, it tastes of wherever it's been!
-
TODD:
Is that squire,
On the fire?
LOVETT:
Mercy no, sir, look closer,
You'll notice it's grocer!
-
TODD:
Looks thicker,
More like vicar!
LOVETT:
No, it has to be grocer --
It's green!
-
TODD:
The history of the world, my love --
LOVETT:
Save a lot of graves,
Do a lot of relatives favors!
-
TODD:
Is those below serving those up above!
LOVETT:
Ev'rybody shaves,
So there should be plenty of flavors!
-
TODD:
How gratifying for once to know
BOTH:
That those above will serve those down below!
-
LOVETT: (spoken) Now let's see, here... We've got tinker.
TODD: Something... pinker.
LOVETT: Tailor?
TODD: Paler.
LOVETT: Butler?
TODD: Subtler.
LOVETT: Potter?
TODD: Hotter.
LOVETT: Locksmith?
-
;D
-
LOVETT:
Lovely bit of clerk.
TODD:
Maybe for a lark.
LOVETT:
Then again there's sweep
If you want it cheap
And you like it dark!
-
LOVETT:
Try the financier,
Peak of his career!
TODD:
That looks pretty rank.
LOVETT:
Well, he drank,
It's a bank
Cashier.
-
LOVETT:
Never really sold.
Maybe it was old.
TODD:
Have you any Beadle?
LOVETT:
Next week, so I'm told!
Beadle isn't bad till you smell it and
Notice 'ow well it's been greased...
Stick to priest!
-
LOVETT: (spoken) Now then, this might be a little bit stringy,
But then of course it's... fiddle player!
TODD: No, this isn't fiddle player -- it's piccolo player!
LOVETT: 'Ow can you tell?
TODD: It's piping hot!
LOVETT: Then blow on it first!
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
What?
-
TODD:
The history of the world, my sweet --
LOVETT:
Oh, Mr. Todd,
Ooh, Mr. Todd,
What does it tell?
-
Did someone say something?
-
TODD:
Is who gets eaten, and who gets to eat!
LOVETT:
And, Mr. Todd,
Too, Mr. Todd,
Who gets to sell!
-
TODD:
But fortunately, it's also clear
BOTH:
That [L: But] ev'rybody goes down well with beer!
-
Lyrics still coming. I'll let them finish.
-
LOVETT: (spoken) Since marine doesn't appeal to you, 'ow about... rear admiral?
TODD: Too salty. I prefer general.
LOVETT: With, or without his privates? "With" is extra.
TODD: What is that?
-
Lyrics still coming. I'll let them finish.
Thanks!
-
LOVETT:
It's fop.
Finest in the shop.
And we have some shepherd's pie peppered
With actual shepherd on top!
-
LOVETT:
And I've just begun --
Here's the politician, so oily
It's served with a doily,
Have one!
TODD:
Put it on a bun.
Well, you never know if it's going to run!
-
LOVETT:
Try the friar,
Fried, it's drier!
TODD:
No, the clergy is really
Too coarse and too mealy!
-
LOVETT:
Then actor,
That's compacter!
TODD:
Yes, and always arrives overdone!
I'll come again when you have JUDGE on the menu!
-
LOVETT: (spoken) Wait! True, we don't have judge yet,
But we've got something you might fancy even better.
TODD: What's that?
LOVETT: Executioner!
-
TODD:
Have charity towards the world, my pet!
LOVETT:
Yes, yes, I know, my love!
-
TODD:
We'll take the customers that we can get!
LOVETT:
High-born and low, my love!
-
TODD:
We'll not discriminate great from small!
No, we'll serve anyone,
Meaning anyone,
-
BOTH:
And to anyone
-
BOTH:
At all!
-
End Act One! :D
-
Well...
-
...let's...
-
...see...

...if...
