Well, you've read the notes, the notes were wild, and now it is time for you to post until the wild cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: IKIGAI!
-
Topic of the Day: I have no idea. ::) I can remember reading Splinter of the Mind's Eye (the very first "Star Wars" novel) by Alan Dean Foster when I was in 6th grade, and The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks early in high school. I know that neither one was the "first"...just very early in my reading experience.
-
Fourteen pages if you count the two I wrote when I was futzing and finessing and I'm counting them.
-
Heading into a new little section that I hope will be fun.
-
Pretty cool, BK!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I have never seen Unbreakable. I think I should like to partake.
-
He made his home in
That fish's abdomen.
-
It ain't necessarily so.
-
Glad to read that DR DR Iris emerged from the storm unscathed.
-
Good morning, all!
-
It's been terrible so far. Around 6:15, I* sat down with my coffee and read my emails. The cats were romping and suddenly the TV quit. So did all the appliances plugged into the same power strip. I've been untangling cords for the past thirty miinutes abd trying to decipher if the cats did it or if one of the power strips went dead. I am in a mild panic attack because I need help and, at the moment, there is no one I can call.
-
What's even worse is that I have a ballet Zoom meeting at 10:30 and I have other things to do besides deal with the damned power strip situation. This apartment is so old, I believe that there are maybe six outlets in the apartment. As a result, everything was plugged into a power strip with a 10 ft cord, so I need to work backward from the wall outlet, testing each extension cord to see where the fat hell the trouble is.
-
I have no idea what the first non-children's book I read might be. I think it's either Gone with the Wind or, possibly, Anatomy of a Murder. But it might be Peyton Place, which was a real turn-on when I was 13. MY mother, whose child-rearing was passive-aggressive, pretty much abandoned me when Macbeth was born two years later. She seemed to only make contact with me when I was sick or school demanded her attention. I pretty much grew up with the only real adult supervision from my Aunt Jean, about whom I had a strange dream involving the military, a bath, and a huge monster terrifying the city.
I'm guessing Gone with the Wind; I still remember wailing like a banshee over Melanie's death.
-
And back to the power strip mystery.
-
Sorry, DR elmore3003. Hope you can figure it out. At least your computer is still working.
-
Power strip vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
I shall have to think about the TOD.
-
My sister did text back and just as reported by DR IRIS, her town was doing fine by then.....lots of wind and rain before.....but things seem to be fine.

Hänsel und Gretel brought Humperdinck worldwide fame but his tragic fairy story Königskinder (‘The King’s Children’) offers a stark contrast to it and has only begun to be revived in recent years.

MY POWERBALL STORY.
Last night I stopped at the Speedway Gas Station about 9 p.m. to put fuel into Dennis, the Smart Car.
I went in to pay [before pumping] and realized I had in addition to my fuel money - another two ONE DOLLAR bills. So I asked for a Power Ball ticket.
The young lady with multi colored hair took my money and walked to the other end of the counter. She came back and handed me a ticket. But I didn't see her punch any buttons or HEAR a machine print out the ticket.
I got home and......
-
Don't leave us hanging, DR Jrand72!
-
I'm on the edge of my seat...
-
TOD:
The first book I read after I wandered out of the library's children's section was...
Agatha Christie's Murder in Three Acts. I remember feeling so "adult."
-
So - when I got home....I looked at the ticket.
It had been printed LAST Thursday for LAST Saturday's drawing.
My guess is she pocketed my two bucks.....
ANYWAY.....it had one right number AND the Powerball number - so it's worth $4.
So today when I put gasoline in Petey the PT Cruiser I will use at Casey's to buy two PB tickets for Wednesday night's drawing.
-
And we won't know the result until tomorrow night.
-
What a scam, DR Jrand72!
I hope that gal finds ants in her britches.

Fabulous night's sleep.
I don't' care who knows it, either!
I dreamed pleasant dreams, all of which have evaporated from my memory.
-
TOD: I have no memory of what the first "adult" novel was that I read. I am certain it wasn't too adult.
It may have been "The Prince and the Pauper" by Mark Twain. I love to read, and I have done so since I first began to read.
The first book I remember that was very serious was "Cry, the Beloved Country." It took me a while to get into. and I remember going through it rather slowly. Happily, I recall I looked the title up in an encyclopedia and read an overview of Alan Paton's point of view. It was the first analysis I had ever read. It was my first inkling that there were people who pored over meaning and motivation about stories.
-
I revisit my podiatrist today. She will be very pleased at how well my foot has recovered. It looks like it's a new foot entirely.
While there, in the same building is a lab where I have blood drawn for an appointment I have next week, so two birds will be caged today.
Then it's back home by way of Sam's Club!!!

Happy International Cat Day!

Wordle: 6/6
-
Yes, my area had a tornado watch and thunderstorm warnings last evening. It turned out to be pretty mild compared to the forecast.
-
Good morning
-
I fully intended to come here last night and catch up
-
Instead our internet went out
-
It just came back
-
I know not why
-
In any case, I have a closing to go to this morning so my day is starting slightly later
-
But now I must Wordle and pop off
-
I am very glad Iris was missed by the tornadoes
-
Iris did your garden survive?
-
A/C vibes for BK
-
I bought me a powerball ticket and a mega millions ticket last night
-
So far although there has been no jackpot winner there have been several million dollar winners
-
DR vixmom, congratulations on your last closing before retiring due to winning the lottery.
-
One was sold in the town just northwest of me, another in the town just. Northeast of me.
-
North, South,
East or West.
Winning the lottery
Is the best.
-
I have decided I would certainly settle for a million dollar second prize
-
After all, we can’t all be first
-
Look to the rainbow!

DR vixmom, congratulations on your last closing before retiring due to winning the lottery.
I revel in your confidence, Singdaw…from your post to the bouncing balls…

Gee! You started page THREE!!!
Ooh mayb3 I’ll be forgiven for not being here yesterday then.
-
Everything is now up and running. The solution was simple, but 6:15 was too early to think about it and instead my panic mode set it.
-
It was the cats. One of the three in their play had turned off the power cable at the wall outlet.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm off in a bit for my "wellness" exam and prescription refills.
-
TOD
Realistically, I have no idea. I started acquiring paperback books fairly early, but many were movie tie-ins and did I even begin reading the more serious ones then? Perhaps not. And I'm compelled, in reading a few other posts, to think that my mom's copy of Gone With the Wind or a few of my parents' Readers Digest Condensed books were indeed among the first that I seriously picked up and read straight through. My own paperback of To Kill a Mockingbird would have been a fairly early read, too.
(Interesting how those of us of a certain age have certain titles in common, ain't it?) :)
I'm also trying to remember what the first "adult" books were that we were exposed to in school. I know that as of sixth grade, we were still in the young adult books (a favorite was The Lion's Paw), but the junior high grades are kind of a blank. Our high school English teachers definitely got us into some classics.
-
It was the cats. One of the three in their play had turned off the power cable at the wall outlet.
Ahem. "There are no accidents", I believe the saying goes? :)

Good Morning! DD JP is doing great. He slept in the crate last night with the cone on, and he was fine. I'm going to go out in a bit and get a donut for his collar so we can ditch the cone. He's really OK with the cone, in the sense that he doesn't try and take it off. The wound is fine. All the stitches are internal, so it's just about making sure he doesn't lick the area. It looks fine, hardly any redness at all, so I think we'll heal quick and be on with our lives.
-
Good news DR ELMORE.
-
Addendum & Dilemma:
So I took the PowerBall ticket in question to CASEY'S this morning and it turns out that it has already been "validated" and is worthless.
So do I take the trouble to stop by SPEEDWAY tonight on the way home and let someone know they have such a person working for them.....or do I just forget it? I don't expect my money back of course.....but should they be told?
-
That is a dilemma, DR Jrand72.
-
I hope Karma redounds.
-
Good doggie news from DR Matthew.
-
Last night, after a quick check, I was very pleased to see that DR Iris was safe.
-
DR George it sounds like you didn't read anymore of the Earthsea books after reading the first one.
-
George do you recall if Ursula K. Le Guin was a good speaker?
-
I found some interviews with her and one of her reading the book. I couldn't listen long as I struggled with the sound quality.
-
I accomplished by goal of hearing how she pronounced Ged's name.
-
It was as I suspected, not pronounced Jed.
-
My sister did text back and just as reported by DR IRIS, her town was doing fine by then.....lots of wind and rain before.....but things seem to be fine.
I'm sure it was nice to have her confirm all was well.
-
So - when I got home....I looked at the ticket.

Wow. Vibes she did you a favor and you win big.

I dreamed pleasant dreams, all of which have evaporated from my memory.
Lucky you.

Happy International Cat Day!
They are cute, however, I won't be messing them up with my lack of coloring skills-lol
-
Yes, my area had a tornado watch and thunderstorm warnings last evening. It turned out to be pretty mild compared to the forecast.
I thought that might be the case since I believe you are closer to Craig than DR Iris. It is nice to see you posting and have you confirm all is well.

Yes. If you feel more comfortable call and speak to the manager.
-
I'm not up, I'm not up - who knows how much sleep.
-
If I had to hazard a guess, I have food poisoning.
-
My tummy feels like there's someone in there squeezing really hard.
-
DR Ron mentioned The Prince and the Pauper. While I read that in maybe 4th grade, I don't count it as it was a children's version.
-
Maybe I wasn't clear on the book topic. Not "adult" like a dirty book or racy book. The first non-children's book you read.
-
The first adult book I can recall reading was Exodus by Leon Uris.
-
I'm pretty sure I was in 6th grade and all my friends were reading it.
-
Maybe the film was why the book, in my class, was suddenly the book to read.
-
It is the first time I can recall the excitement of reading a book along with my friends and discussing it.
-
Thanks DR JANE....still thinking about it.
-
I read some novels in the Readers Digest condensed volumes - but I don't remember the titles.
The first grownup book that I can remember reading by title was an Ellery Queen mystery book - The Dutch Shoe Mystery. Then I started reading sci fi short story collections....especially those by Ray Bradbury.....my favorite collection being Dandelion Wine.
And then A Tale of Two Cities.
-
After that it was a race between Harold Robbins and Jacqueline Susann and in between was Lord of the Flies & Catcher In The Rye.
-
The one book I will always recall reading from the Readers Digest volumes was The Haunting of Hill House, which I loved and read a couple of times even before the 1963 movie was made, and those pen-and-ink illustrations are burned into my brain.
And I actually have a copy of that volume. But not our original one.
Some years ago we had dear friends who had lived here for a long time, but they were moving back to their home in Canada (Ontario). They had owned a set of the Canadian edition that looked like what I remembered except that each book had a thin slipcase. (Maybe ours did, too, and my folks threw them away?) Anyhoo, when I saw those at their house one day I told them my history with the Shirley Jackson story. Later, when they moved, they gave me that volume -- which I absolutely still love, even if only to renew my acquaintance with those pages and those illustrations that help me to remember my own first imaginings of the people and surroundings in the book.
-
Tummy vibes for BK!

At least it wasn't the salmon mousse.

Sorry about your malady, BK.

At least it wasn't the salmon mousse.
That reminds me, I came across a really simple recipe for fish & chips:

I guess you won't be telling us if you win-lol
-
If DR Vixmom suddenly retires and moves to Florida I think we can guess why ;)
-
Hmmm, or would the family all move to a new location?
-
JRand-
That is so insane. The lottery is so tightly regulated that I think that store would be in huge trouble if that happened. The question is if it’s worth dealing with them doubting your account of events. They’d probably have security footage to confirm it if they wanted to look. She made a big mistake, maybe unintentionally.
-
As a kid I tried to read Solzhenitsyn’s August 1914. I made it pretty far but can’t say I finished. William Wharton’s “Scumbler” was one I made it through.
-
I’m at urgent care down in Lynden, WA. I have a pain in my back I can’t tell if it’s muscle pain or something inside.
-
Went back to bed and slept a bit more. Still bad. Left a message for the Muse - I suspect they're either away or she hasn't been told the pages arrived. I'll call later around dinner time.
-
Probably not gonna get much writing done today, if any. Going back to bed.

It’s not like back pain from my spine. Reminds me of a kidney infection I had as a kid, but no other symptoms of that. So we’ll see…

Feel better vibes for MR BK & DR RODZINSKI.

I have decided to just leave it to Karma.....it is obviously not the first time she's done it....nor will it be the last.....
And if she's ever in there again when I go in.....I can give a good "I know what you did" look......steady and straight in the eye....probably with a nod of the head.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
Crazy day.
-
We've switched to the donut.
It looks more comfortable.
-
TOD:
Probably Romeo and Juliet, which I read in second grade. Only got plot details, I’m sure. But it pissed off my teacher, who couldn’t believe I was reading such trash.

Keith introduced me to science fiction.

I'd go back and let the manager know. You can bet that you're not the only one that that has happened to.

Of course the first adult book he recalls reading is the scifi novel When Worlds Collide.

DR George it sounds like you didn't read anymore of the Earthsea books after reading the first one.
No. It was a required read, so I had other required readings that took priority. ::)

George do you recall if Ursula K. Le Guin was a good speaker?
She was a very good speaker. Everyone really enjoyed her. She also had a question-and-answer section, and I remember that people asked good questions.

I wish I had read The Wizard of Earthsea when I was young.

It is possible I appreciated the message more now that I am old.

What grade was Earthsea required reading?
-
Ok, urine tests seem good. The urgent care in this little hamlet is quite a well-run machine. So the current thinking is I pulled some back muscles somehow. Blood test results in a few days.
-
Thanks for the vibes!
-
Aside child prodigy reading Romeo and Juliet while in 2nd grade, how old was everyone when they read their first adult book?
-
I think I was about 10, DR Jane.

Thanks.
-
DR John, if you lived in Florida today you would not have been permitted to read all of Romeo and Juliet in school.

Podiatry went very, very well. Am done unless I get another callous.
Blood draw went well, too.
Sam's Club -- I was only going to pick up a couple of things, like blueberry muffins and some Haagen-Dazs ice cream. Trouble is, there was so much that appealed to me that I went hog wild. My freezer is full, my refrigerator is full, and, happily, my belly is full.

I got mail this afternoon, then went to buy Mega Millions quick picks.
At least I am currently as likely as anyone else to win it all.
Am willing to share it with other lucky ticket buyers.
Not greedy, just as long as I can buy a beach house and a new car.

Who'da thunk it. :-\
-
I was expecting an article to only cover how not to blow all that money. It is shocking how often winners end of broke.

That's some incredible advice. I think many of us would have thought of an attorney and an investment advisor, and probably keeping it a secret, but... wow.
Holy cow. Now I know. Whew.

Basically, I've slept all day and that's a good thing. Feeling a little better now. Not sure I'll eat anything today, but we'll see. Maybe something really bland and light a bit later.
-
I was awakened by the call from Muse Margaret. She started the pages last night, but didn't finish until this afternoon. And no notes, she just loved it all, and that just makes me so happy. So, I think I'll try to futz and finesse now and see about doing a few new pages, too.
-
Grant had me turn the air on, and it seems better today, not as warm as it was yesterday. I can't tell if it's as cold as it should be but I'm certainly getting a nice breeze on me. So, I think we'll wait until the next time it's really warm then I'll just leave it on and we'll have the guy come out. The proof will be if it goes down from the 79 it currently is in the home environment.

I do not care for page seven.

And a love whose burning light
-
Wil warm the winter night
-
That's all
-
That's all
-
There are those,
-
I am sure,
-
Who have told you
-
They would give you
-
The world for a toy
-
All I have are these arms
-
EIGHT
-
To enfold you
-
And a love time can never destroy
-
If you're wondering
-
What I'm asking in return, dear
-
You'll be glad to know
-
That my demands are small
-
Say it's me that you'll adore
-
For now and ever more
-
After I told my story to my assistant director - with gestures - she pulled up the app for that particular gas station and I left a brief comment describing when and what happened and what the clerk looked like.....anonymous......
Good for you, and your assistant director.
-
That's all
-
That's all.
-
Did you comment incorporate the gestures?
:)
-
Congratulations to DR Ginny and her state on rejecting the ballot initiative today.
I didn't notice. Congratulations.

DR Iris & DR Kevin, how is the weather today?
-
Keith is about to pop corn.

'night

That's great!

Futzed and finessed and wrote four pages. I'll try to write at least four to six more in a little while. Getting to a critical short sequence that I have to write VERY carefully. I'd intended it to come a bit later, but it's feeling like now might be the time.
-
Not sure what to do about food. I'm thinking maybe an omelet would be okay?
-
Can't really think of anything else that would be bland enough - don't want salad.
-
Temperature is close to seventy-two now and it's quite frosty so I'll turn it off in a moment and I think it'll remain cool for the evening.
-
The collective noun for a group of wild cats is a destruction.
-
I think DR elmore3003's brood have proved that this morning.
-
BK, do you have any oats in the house?
-
Or rice?
-
Of course, if you're looking for bland, there's also Herbert Hoover: American Quaker by David Hinshaw (1950).
-
:)
-
One more.

PAGE NINE

My wife told me to take the spider out instead of killing it.
-
Went out. Had a few drinks. Nice guy.
-
He's a web designer.
-
Barbie didn't give me a poor body image.
-
She taught me that a head can't be re-attached once it's separated from the body.
-
I see people, but no posts.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Good luck to all of you buying lottery tickets.
Double ditto!
-
Watching a documentary called The Wrecking Crew, about the studio musicians who backed up everything from Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound to Sinatra to Pet Sounds to the Righteous Brothers to Sonny and Cher to Herb Alpert on Tequila.
-
Glen Campbell was one of the group, and he’s interviewed. Brian Wilson, Cher, Nancy Sinatra, Leon Russell, Dick Clark and many more among the talking heads.

Thanks to everyone for the vibes and concern.
Spent the day cleaning up the balcony and putting the garden back together.
Some broken plants, but nothing serious.
-
Sam's Club -- I was only going to pick up a couple of things, like blueberry muffins and some Haagen-Dazs ice cream. Trouble is, there was so much that appealed to me that I went hog wild. My freezer is full, my refrigerator is full, and, happily, my belly is full.
The only Haagen-Dazs I have seen at Costco are the bars. What can you get at Sam's Club?
The bars and the vanilla ice cream in half-gallon tubs.

DR Kevin, glad that your neighborhood was not damaged.
We have many trees down, and power outages. I am one of the fortunate ones who did not lose power.
-
Am very much enjoying Max.
Tonight, I devoured four episodes of season 1 of "The White Lotus".
I have been wondering a long time what folks loved about the show (which I couldn't see because I didn't have HBO).
Now, I know. Am really into it.
-
BK, toast might be a good idea, or plain rice.
Sorry that you’re unwell.
Do you know what may have caused the food poisoning?
-
Pain free vibes for Rodzinski!
I hope that your back issues can be resolved quickly.
-
DR Ron, I loved The White Lotus, both seasons.
And I rarely watch anything.
-
I will be interested in hearing your reaction to the finale of the first season.
The theme song became a huge hit at dance clubs.
-
Good night, all.
Sweet dreams.
😴
-
Glad to read that most everything is good, Iris.

Pie! Oh, my!

That sounds yummy! I'd prefer the peach to the strawberry option.

That's great, Iris!

No oats, no rice. May get some white rice tomorrow depending on how I'm feeling.
-
Tonight's rehearsal went pretty well.
-
We fixed a couple of sound cues that were having problems (for me).
-
::)
-
Then, we discovered that I hadn't written the number of one cue in my script, which didn't really affect much because I was setting off the cue anyway, but we just made sure that it was all correct.
-
Up to this point, the computer that I've been working on was on a table set amongst the seats, but after tonight's run, we moved it to the actual tech deck, so I'll be up there from now on. :)
-
Oh, look! It's Page Ten!! :D
-
Tomorrow, we'll have our invited preview audience, and then we open on Thursday.
-
Normally, we'd open on Friday, but I'd heard that someone made a mistake about something, so we had to open on Thursday...I guess. I have no idea.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
