Well, you've read the notes, the notes had food poisoning, and now it is time for you to post until the poisoned cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CUPIDITY!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
You're Gonna Hear from Me.
-
So say Andy Williams and Bill Evans.
-
But not at the same time.
-
Good morning, all!
-
That would just be cacophonous.
-
It was a very restless night of sleep. I had a peculiar Drama Book Shop dream: I was back to my old job of shipping issues, book returns, and orders. There was an initial part of the dream I do not remember, but I got to work, removed my coat and my shirt, and then spent much of the dream trying to find both shirt and coat.
-
There has been fallout to yesterday's cat-astrophe with the power. My DVD player is no longer connected to the television, so Jen is coming down around 9:00 to check out the scene. This is good because tomorrow she and Ann are off for several weeks and I will take care of their mail till they return.
-
I lost too much time on the ballet this weekend while dealing with the new computer setup and my OCD behavior about the new computer's screwed up bookmarks. So, the rest of the week is a crush to finish No. 36 and get on to the final six numbers.
-
Well, I just heard the winning Powerball numbers were in Florida, so DR Ron Pulliam and I are out. Sigh . . . perhaps we'll each win just a couple of million.
-
I am currently waitng on Amazon Fresh. I'm two stops away, so I'm guessing the order will arrive in about thirty minutes.
-
Shucks!
I can only hope the Mega-Millions winner won't be donating anything to the orange one.
-
Slept rather fitfully.
Had to remove my CPAP around 2 a.m. Congestion was just too much.
Rest of night my sinuses were in full rebellion against me.
I keep a box of tissues at the head of my bed beside where I sleep...and I used a lot of them throughout the night.
I did get sleep, and I know I dreamed, but the former was too little and the latter is gone from memory.
I have a routine dental visit this morning at 10:30.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Time for coffee and a blueberry muffin!!!
Laters.... (stole that from one JoseSPiano, I believe).
-
Notes imbibed. Survived.
-
Shucks!
I can only hope the Mega-Millions winner won't be donating anything to the orange one.
Sad that that was my first thought too. Why Florida of all places?
-
Back felt a little better overnight, through the power of y’all’s good wishes.
-
DR John G, I saw a screening of the Wrecking Crew doc once. (It could only be shown in special screenings for years while they worked out the music rights). You realize how many ‘60s hits were not really played on by the bands themselves.
-
Florida, hey? Hope it was the Vixter and Vixhubby
-
I have Toruń , I’m quite behind this morning
-
Um…to run

No. More food poisoning vibes for Bruce

The island of Maui is on fire.

The wildfires raging out of control in Maui are so catastrophic, some residents are hurling themselves into the ocean to escape the flames.

-
DR John G., have you heard about this?
Heartbreaking.
-
DR Ron, did you see my posts last night about The White Lotus?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
-
Rodzinski, glad to read that your back feels better.
Hope the situation continues to improve.
-
Yikes I have two different sets of friends in Hawaii at the moment.
-
Thanks Dear Sweet Iris!
-
Amazon Fresh arrived around 7:15, As I waited at the door for the delivery to come up the elevator, Stella escaped and playted in the clutter left in the hall by the Man with the Bike. The delivery arrived, dropped off many bags of food - the frozen items were in good condition - and left. I couldn't coax Stella to come into the apartment, although I was sure her curiosity would bring her in.
-
https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/09/weather/maui-county-wildfires-hurricane-dora/index.html
Oh, my goodness! :(
-
Well, I put everything away, and every time I opened the door to coax her inside, she'd run down the hall. I made the bed and went to work on my ballet No. 36. Jen came down to connect the DVD to the TV, Ann came down to say hello, and I kept writing. Around 10:00 I realized Stella was still outside, so I went searching for her. I found her on the second floor.
-
The elevator opened on two, I called her name, and she walked into the elevator. We rode up to three and she followed me into the apartment. I can relax now.

You do way better with this than I would (which I'm glad to hear) because I'd be beside myself with worry. But I'm sure the first times in the earlier months were completely nerve-wracking.
-
This Maui disaster is horrible.
-
I hope BK is doing well in recovering from yesterday and last night.
-
Let it be known that DR Elmore will be receiving a gentleman caller next Tuesday.
-
Good medical news from DR Rodzinski.

~~~RECUPERATION VIBES~~~ for BK!!!!!!
-
Good morning.
-
I have been making an effort to stay off the computer as much as possible.
-
This morning it was under 90 when I left for my walk. It got hot quickly.
-
I'm pretty much just waiting out the summer now. Like I do every year.
-
DR Ron, did you see my posts last night about The White Lotus?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
I did. Will know more to say after episodes 5 and 6 of Season 1.
-
Back from the dentist. Cleaning, exam, no problems! Best dental visit in a long time.
-
Top o' the morn', DR Laura!
-
Good Morning. Vibes to BK on a swift recovery. Hopefully today will be better.
JP is recovering well. He's roaming around the apartment with DD Leo today. He seems to like the donut. I woke up this morning wondering what it is that I am doing today - I still don't know.
-
DR Iris I am glad the damage to your little garden was minor.
-
Thanks DR Ron for the Haagen-Daz report. Since I buy the mini bars and vanilla bean, as with Costco, it wouldn't make a difference to me.
-
From George:
Normally, we'd open on Friday, but I'd heard that someone made a mistake about something, so we had to open on Thursday...I guess. I have no idea.
The island of Maui is on fire.
I thought it was in one area. I just adjusted a post on Facebook to a friend I thought might only be dealing with smoke. I see now that power is also out in a number of areas.
-
https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/09/weather/maui-county-wildfires-hurricane-dora/index.html
:(
I saw a similar report that mentioned the fire was in Lahaina, which is not near my friend.
-
This Maui disaster is horrible.
:(
-
Good morning.
It is nice to see you posting.
-
I'm pretty much just waiting out the summer now. Like I do every year.
Does it seem worse this summer?
-
Good Morning. Vibes to BK on a swift recovery. Hopefully today will be better.
JP is recovering well. He's roaming around the apartment with DD Leo today. He seems to like the donut. I woke up this morning wondering what it is that I am doing today - I still don't know.
Very good news. The boys do recover from this, with fewer side effects, than the girls.
-
I just read that the beautiful 200 year old Banyan Tree in Lahaina has burned :'(
-
Lahaina was such a wonderful old town :(
-
The island of Maui is on fire.
So sad.
-
I just read that the beautiful 200 year old Banyan Tree in Lahaina has burned :'(
That’s scary.
-
Very cloudy - rain and storms predicted for today in my neck of the woods.
-
Recovery vibes for BK. And writing vibes.
-
Hawaii state officials will host a briefing on the wildfires and the impact of Dora at 10 a.m. local time (4 p.m. ET) Wednesday. NBC
I just read this, and assume it will be carried live.
-
Thanks.
-
I was correct, my friend is dealing with heavy smoke but not fires.
-
Vibes there aren't any more fires.
-
I liked Lahaina very much, despite the crowds of tourists.
There was an interview with a resident who said that the boats burned and that the harbor was gone.
I understand the boats burning, but figured the harbor would be fine.
Wouldn’t the fire be stopped by water? 🤔
-
Jane, that’s good news about your friend.
-
It’s amazing that a hurricane over 700 miles away could be capable of causing those heavy winds.
-
Stella's sojourn in the halls of 202 West 82 has done nothing to dim her psycho exuberance. At the moment she's cooling off in the bathtub, which I suspect is the coolest place in the apartment.
-
DR Iris, I'm thinking the boats were docked and the docks are made of wood.
-
Jane, that’s good news about your friend.
Thank you.
-
I finished the first third of No. 37, Coda in Swing Time. As I wrote it, adding as many jazz chords possible and chucking maniacally, I thought I heard the body of Ludwig Minkus spinning out of control in his grave.
-
It’s amazing that a hurricane over 700 miles away could be capable of causing those heavy winds.
I know. I hadn't even heard of Dora until reading she had caused the high winds.
-
As far as the ballet goes, I am now where I should have been last Saturday. I may be working late tonight.
-
DR Iris, I'm thinking the boats were docked and the docks are made of wood.
Yes, I just modified my prior post.
What I didn’t understand was how the actual harbor itself was gone.
-
MSNBC is currently interviewing a couple from Maui.
-
The 911 system is down, which is scary.
-
Guess we’ll be learning much more in a few minutes when they hold the news conference.
-
I finished the first third of No. 37, Coda in Swing Time. As I wrote it, adding as many jazz chords possible and chucking maniacally, I thought I heard the body of Ludwig Minkus spinning out of control in his grave.
😄😊
-
;)
-
I watched an overhead video of the fire where you can see the speed at which it was moving.
-
Watching reminded me of the time I was hiking in Ashland and Keith called from the Y where he could see a fire in my direction. From my view all I could see were grey clouds moving overhead super fast.
-
Those clouds, which turned out to be smoke filled, were really moving fast.
-
Fortunately I was already heading out when Keith called. It wasn't until I walked out from the trails that I said OMG. Past the parking area and in the fields across the road was a big fire.
-
I mentioned the speed of those clouds. The high winds that day could have caused a disaster but good luck was working in our favor. The firefighting planes were set to be relocated that day, instead they helped put out the fire.
-
The fire also ran along the irrigation ditch, provided an abundance of water for the fire trucks.
-
Only one empty house burned that day.
-
If the fire had begun in the town that day, Ashland would probably be gone.
-
The 911 system is down, which is scary.
I know, and cell phones were down.
-
Fortunately I was already heading out when Keith called. It wasn't until I walked out from the trails that I said OMG. Past the parking area and in the fields across the road was a big fire.
Jane, that is terrifying. Thank goodness you were safe.
-
News conference now on CNN.
-
DR Iris, I'm thinking the boats were docked and the docks are made of wood.
Yes, I just modified my prior post.
What I didn’t understand was how the actual harbor itself was gone.
Hmmm, now I am wondering.
-
A year ago today, I learned of the death of my dear friend Keith Viagas, whose body washed up on the shore near his home in Sag Harbor. We met in the mid-1990s when I worked at The Drama Book Shop and he worked with NY City Opera. We became great friends, and thanks to him, I saw nearly every City Opera production while he worked with them. After an internal power struggle among his City Opera superiors, he left, worked for a while with conductor Eve Queler, helped me prepare the 2001 recording of Babes in Toyland, and eventually we lost touch with each other: Keith gave up his NY apartment to move to the house he and his partner owned in Sag Harbor. I once spent a lovely weekend with them there and had my first and only swim in the saltwater of the Long Island sound.
About four years ago, I found Keith on Facebook; he was working as a chef in a Long Island restaurant and seemed happy. I never suspected our reunion would be so brief. RIP, dear friend.
-
Jane, that is terrifying. Thank goodness you were safe.
Actually I was never scared for my safety, first out of ignorance and next because I had time to leave the area. I think Keith was more concerned until he reached me on the phone.
Good news from BK.
Oh, great. A Utah man that threatened the President was killed in an FBI raid. Now he will become a martyr for the Right, which worships violence and brutality.
Futzed and finessed, went to Gelson's and got a Caesar salad, which has now been eaten, and I've done five new pages. I'll take a little break, then try to write five more. I'm about to finish the section I'm in, which could have been endless but thankfully ended up only being about seven pages.
-
Continued vibes to BK for a 100% recovery.
I just got back from a 12.5 mile ride, showered - and now I have a production meeting of Bright Star on Zoom. Oy and vey.... I would have driven anywhere for a production meeting, I hate Zoom - after using it to teach during the height of the pandemic. Well, at least I don't have to dress up.
DD JP is doing great... maybe too great as he doesn't understand he's not suppose to jump!
I have only done smaller groups with Zoom. I can't imagine teaching a classroom using it. I know Craig disliked teaching on line.
Continued healing vibes for JP.
Good news from MR BK.
DR ELMORE nice story....
Annnnnd the production meeting was 23 minutes long. Quite pleasant. Only 7 of us. LOL
Good night, friends.
Waiting isn’t worth it.
Both were part of a five-pack of food movies. I didn’t care for No Reservations. Maybe I’ll watch Chef again. Or Julie & Julia.
-
DR Ron, did you see my posts last night about The White Lotus?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
I did. Will know more to say after episodes 5 and 6 of Season 1.
Season 1 is finished. I was totally NOT expecting the death that transpired. Very odd. I also did not think the newlyweds would make it...and not quite sure I buy into Rachel's conclusion that she was happy when she reunited with her husband at the airport.
I liked the Mossbacher story line. Glad about the husband/wife resolution. Still don't like their daughter or her friend. The son is choosing a path very few young men of 16 ever have the guts to do. Am rooting for him, but not sure he will be part of future seasons.
The Tonya character gets on my last nerve. So much indecision, emotional neediness, thoughtless behavior and overwrought conduct drives me to distraction. I felt really bad for Belinda. I also am wondering what was in that envelope Tonya gave to Belinda. It looked like a huge wad of cash, and I thought it might have been for the holistic business Belinda wants, but it got tossed in drawer and the business plan tossed in the trash.
I saw a lot of things I never thought I would see...things I never wanted to see...and things/actions I don't want to see again.
-
And that is all I have to say about THAT!
Will, of course, be happy to discuss the series with you, Iris.
-
Robbie Robertson has died. He was, of course, in The Band. But he also was the music producer of a great many Martin Scorsese movies, including my favorite, King of Comedy.
Well, act one went quite well.
-
PAGE SEVEN DANCE!!
-
Tonight was supposed to be the invited final preview, but no one showed up.
-
::)
-
That's okay, though.
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
We should be well past page seven.
-
George disappeared at nine-thirty.
-
Now it is eleven-forty and he WILL be held accountable for this travesty.
-
Twenty minutes, dear boy. Twenty minutes to atone before you WILL be held accountable.
-
Almost fifteen pages. Hopefully I'll like them.
-
Novella my ASS.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
The damn clock is ticking.
-
I will now write some damn notes.
-
Act two went more smoothly than act one, so that's good.
-
Here's a moment from act one, taken from the tech deck where I'm now running the slides and sound:
-
This is where the two main characters of act one meet.
-
Here's a picture of the two main characters from act two:
-
The two main characters are the woman just behind the post on the left, and the young man in the red shirt.
-
Pretty much everyone plays multiple characters, but the woman's character here in the second act is in one scene in the first act, and the only character that's actually in both acts.
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
Now that I've seen the show all the way through a few times, I'm really starting to enjoy it.
-
It's kind of like two episodes of The Twilight Zone.
-
Oh boy! Page 7 still
-
That will not do.
-
Nice tech pix, G!
-
Just need an audience in there.
-
Shortly after the two main characters in the first act meet, they are chatting and one mentions that he likes Strangers on a Train, starring Farley Granger and Robert Walker.
-
The other character does too.
Nice tech pix, G!
Thanks, Rodzinski!
-
Just need an audience in there.
Definitely!
-
Oh, no. :-\
-
The other family I know is on a different island.
My sister and her friends are going on vacation to Hawaii in November. I don't remember which island they'll be on, but I hope things are fairly recovered by then...not just for my sister's sake, but for everyone's!
The bat was on one of their outdoor sun umbrellas and as he reached in to shut the umbrella, he inadvertently grabbed the bat.
-
Ew! :P
-
We had a bat in our house in Delaware once. It’s not fun.
-
Just as I began the notes, we had the every two weeks computer crash. I saw it coming and thankfully everything was saved.
-
Trying to cool down the house. I don't get it, really. The thermostat reads 79 but it's in the 60s outside. Makes no sense. Turned on the AC and it seems to be blowing warm again. I'm leaving it on a bit to see if it gets colder. Otherwise, I'll turn it on in the morning and if it's still doing it, we can call the guy and I'll leave it on.
-
Bats in your computer’s belfry.
-
And now to the notes.
-
Bats in your AC’s belfry too.
